i cant talk for any other hyv game but i do think it’s interesting how hi3 and genshin’s story flaws/ideals are bc of the very specific medium they’re in.

#genshin is open world you are literally brought into another world #so every character you get Has to be different and Has to represent a particular person.#there’s not necessarily that aspect of time and growth which is so so interesting bc time is so important in genshin #genshin’s world is fun bc you really don’t need to be into the lore to enjoy it #there’s a lot of flexibility to be had #you can walk around or explore or kill things etc etc #you can enjoy the scenery or the music you can decorate your teapot etc etc etc!!#and i think that it being so immersive works well for the game! it’s one thing i really really adore abt the game even though it brings #flaws i don’t like!!#honkai is more focused on story telling which makes it’s open world maps weaker and less immersive #you’re expected to look at the text rather than the characters #and bc the gameplay can be so. Typical bc you’re jsut switching between Combat and Story.#it can get stale if you’re not immersed in the story #like. at least if you’re only in the game for the battle aspect there’s a skip button but like. yk. can get tiring.#but it being so limited means the story as a whole gets so much thought and focus put into it #and you can tell!!!!#each character (even side characters) are intertwined with each other #and there’s layers of commentary and symbolism and relationships everywhere!!#and that’s the point! it’s on purpose!#it can be incredibly overwhelming for new players #esp bc the information is honestly. kinda inconvenient to get to.#but getting the grip of it leads to truly understanding How Much the characters actually change and grow #and the fact that the characters have multiple battlesuits only amplify that #bc each battlesuit for each character will be different from other battlesuits :3 #hnk3 #gi

tumblr like vs reblog discourse is hell because people will write entire paragraphs about how "well actually likes don't really support artists because it doesn't feed anything into an algorithm" like that's all there is.

like one human being reaching out to another through the framework of a social media site to be like "hey, i saw this thing you made and it meant something to me" means nothing to anyone. like that's less important than feeding your opinion of someone's work into an algorithm designed with the primary function of keeping you on their site so you can make them more money.

i appreciate reblogs and retweets and new follows and comments just like anyone else. but i'm not going to sit here and resent the people that only like. and i'm especially not going to let myself get so poisoned by social media i convince myself the human behind them doesn't matter.

calling art and writing "content", viewing the concept of support through the lens of algorithms and exposure and statistics. there's nothing more human than Making Things but all we do is try to take all the human out of it.

#maybe i've spent too much time on AO3 #there's no need to share or rely on others for ~exposure~. my writing is just there forever whenever anyone wants to go looking for it #sure a comment is nice but kudos are the only real currency there so there is nothing to devalue them like there is on twitter and tumblr #the other thing is that at some point or another you have to realise that you cannot See the way everyone interacts with your work #it's nice to see reblogs and see what tags they leave etc. but some people will keep to themselves and adore your work in secret #do the artists whose work i've had as pc/mobile backgrounds know about that? know they have inspired me? know they have changed me?#you have to be content with not knowing the inner thoughts of everyone who sees your work #you can't assume anything about yourself or others based on which button someone presses under your art #txt

Anyway so I just wrote a long ass email to my university's director of engineering admissions on a whim to ask about what I can do to apply as an adult with degrees in a completely different field lol.
