Same anon here, thank you!!! Do you have any specific worlbuilding in your story? Are you only playing with the disney princesses or do you have other disney characters mixed up? And I loved how you made this HUUUUGE plot twist with Cinderella! Are you doing the same with the next princesses? And about the side stories!! Are there more to come? I'm sorry if I'm being annoying, but I'm so loving all you do!!
My, these are important questions xD This is way too long to answer normally, so I'm writing all you want to know under the cut! I'm sorry, It is really long. I apologize in advance :')
If you have some spare time and are curious about this stuff of my legacy story, check this out. It my explain some things, hehe.
1. WORLDBUILDING
There is a "complex and connected" universe in this, yes, but I do not limit a story to the same sim world. I imagine certain game worlds as specific areas with their own social problems, forms of government and characteristic population. Still, I jump from world to world using specific lots or scenery places thay might complement the current chapters or, if I happen to need it, I'll rebuild the whole world again for upcoming generations if I'm already done with the previous ones.
For example:
In Snow White (the H.E.A. founder) the story developed in Windenburg and Windenburg only. Not even the whole world was used for the story, only three lots (The White Manor, Eis' cottage and the flower shop).
Cinderella and The Princess and The Frog develop in Willow Creek, but it's not the same Willow Creek. The only permanent lots are the royal palace and a couple of residential lots (the Tremaine and Bonfamille manors), but I redesigned the whole world for each arc. Ella's story took place in a more high-class victorian part of the kingdom, and Tiana's will be in a New Orlean-ish, humble zone with some vip spots. The townies are different and the social situation changes as well. I'll be also using specific locations from Windenburg, implying those scenes are still having place in some other unknown part of Willow Creek.
In some upcoming generations, I'm merging worlds into a whole area. In Rapunzel and The Beauty and The Beast, Glimmerbrook, Granite Falls and Henford-On-Bagley, as well as specific Windenburg areas, share the same territory.
This is a bit confusing, but it works for me :'D So far, this is how I've organized the story world in the save (mild spoilers):
Willow Creek + Magnolia Promenade: Kingdom ruled by a strong monarchy. Population: Humans and Hybrids** Connections with: Britechester, Newcrest.
Oasis Springs + Strangerville: Emirate and local mayoralties. Population: Humans, spellcasters, undercover aliens. No near connections.
Brindleton Bay: Mayoralty. Population: Humans and Hybrids. Connections with: Henford-On-Bagley, San Myshuno (not that close, but reachable).
Mt. Komorebi: Parlamentarism. Isolated area of the mountains. Population: Humans. Connections with: Granite Falls (veeeery lightly).
San Myshuno + Del Sol Valley: Presidency and Mayoralty. Population: Humans and undercover occults (Gods**, Spellcasters, Hybrids). Connections: Newcrest.
Windenburg: Parlamentarism. Population: Humans, Hybrids, Vampires. Connections with: Henford-On-Bagley, Glimmerbrook, Granite Falls.
Sulani: Principality and local chiefdoms. Population: Humans, Mermaids, Gods. No near connections.
Forgotten Hollow: Mayoralty. Population: Vampires and Spellcasters. No near connections.
Selvadorada: Republic. Population: Humans, Hybrids and Spellcasters. No near connections.
Evergreen Harbor: Mayoralty. Population: Humans, undercover aliens, cyborgs. Connections with: San Myshuno. If there is ever a future-like pack, it will be related to this area.
Britechester: Grand Duchy. Population: Humans. Connections with: Willow Creek, Windenburg.
2. CHARACTERS
I will mainly play with the "princesses", yes! I'm following these Disney Legacy Challenge rules as a main guideline, so the heirs are related to that. Even so, they won't always have the same looks or gender like the cartoon ones, nor the spouses. Since I'm a nerd, I try to surround the heirs with familiar characters from their stories, but they might be ooc or don't have the same role as they do in the movies. I just want to create the vibes, but give them my own twist!
I thought it would be fun to create a Disney movie themed save for this challenge, and I'm stil adding recreations of a lot of characters thay may fit in the world. Since I really enjoy rotational gameplay, I thought it would be fun to create mini challenges for certain households and play them aside from the main legacy to have a little change and relax. Buuuuuuuuut every single time I play this game a story pops up in my head, and yes, so far there is one side story with some of the minor characters. I'm afraid my save has turned into a graphic feverdream disney fanfiction, but here we are :'D It is important to say I also play with the EA premade townies, so this is a weeeeirddd mashup :')
Since I have the characters roaming around freely, they also interact with the main legacy and, in some cases, they even gain some importance. In Cinderella's case, I never planned Mr. La Bouff to become Ella's friend. My original plan was to have Tia and Lottie meet at university. Also! I created two fake occults: the Hybrids (think of were!Sims. Like Werecats, Werefishes, Werewolves, Werebirds... you get the idea... it'll be properly explained in the future. No, they don't turn into animals.) and the Gods (squish vampires, mermaids and spellcasters together. Now make them OP and immortal).
So far, I've included characters from:
The Aristocats, Finding Nemo, Peter Pan, 101 Dalmatians, Tarzan, Robin Hood, Alice in Wonderland, Coco, Pinocchio, Big Hero 6, Lilo & Stitch, Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Jungle Book, Toy Story, Cars, The Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis.
I had the intention of presenting them all and giving them out for download. I've been slowly makeovering them, so I hope I can manage to do so in the near future.
3. STORYTELLING
The plot twist was kind of a happy accident xD It wasn't planed at all! It's just I find it not-that-exciting to retell the same old story again and again. Cinderella is poor and mistreated, but then marries the prince and she's happy. We all know that, right? I don't intend to follow the same path... I need chaos to keep me entertained in my own game xD that's why I went like "welll.... what IF the prince is a bit of an ass?" I didn't see the whole load of drama that would come.
In the upcoming chapters, things are being similar. I don't say everything is going to be bittersweet, but I'll take elements from the main story and shape them differently. I'm taking a lot of creative liberties here!
4. SIDE STORIES
Im so glad you like them!! I get attached to my characters as soon as I start playing with them and can't help myself from giving them a story, even a little one. It's like... they're in my save for a reason, right? Not only as townie fillers, even if that was the main purpose in the beginning. It's safe to say there is one WIP side story with the Tremaine descendants involving some of the characters I mentioned before. I have another one in mind, but since it is not related with the main legacy at all I'm still not sure how to include it... but I'm working on it.
You can bet I'll keep telling these silly little stories because I really can't help it, hehe.
Thank you so much for asking! I'm really sorry for writing a lot, I hope this is what you were looking for!! And I'm so glad to have you as a reader ^^

birthday prince (3)
summary: virgil decides roman deserves a day off.  words: 2,100 / ship: prinxiety (roman/virgil) author’s note: this is part three of my Giving The Gay Anything He Wants series for roman’s birthday (june 4)! all ships are written implied romantic but i’m not stopping you from interpreting it otherwise. check the end notes on ao3 for credit on these gifts (bc i don’t know where to put them in this post)! i hope you enjoy!!
part 1 (roceit) | part 2 (logince) | part 3 (prinxiety) part 4 (royality) | part 5 (dlampts)  read on ao3
— — —
“Best two out of three.”
“I thought this was a birthday gift!”
“Yes and?”
“So why don’t I automatically get to pick the first movie?”
“Because I know you’re on a princess kick and full offense, if I have to deal with a talking animal as the comedic relief sidekick, I might actually die.”
“... Okay. Fine, okay, that’s fair.”
“On shoot.”
One, two, three, shoot — Virgil’s scissors versus Roman’s paper meant that the birthday boy did, in fact, not get to pick the first movie. He feigned upset for only a few moments longer before flopping back into their pillow fort. He supposed, given all the hard work Virgil had put into this, he could put up with one non-princess Disney film.
Earlier in the day, Virgil had rather unceremoniously kicked Roman out of his own room, claiming he had something important to do. Were it not for how close they’d grown, Roman would have been upset and suspicious; he trusted Virgil now, though, and knew that nothing would go wrong. He’d spent an hour playing cards with Logan and Patton before Virgil shouted for him from upstairs. When he’d arrived back to his room, it looked almost unrecognizable. It was mostly illuminated by fairy lights, providing a cozier feel than what he was used to; the floor to ceiling windows looked out into a rainy forest instead of the usual rolling hills; his bed had been turned into a truly impressive collection of blankets, pillows, cushions, and stuffed animals. The canopy had been removed which bothered him a little but only until he realized the projector that had been set up, pointing at the ceiling. There was a basket at the foot of the bed, filled with snacks and bottled drinks. Roman figured they could stay here for the next twenty four hours and be perfectly fine.
Surrounded by what was possibly every soft thing to be found in the Mindscape, Roman clutched Mrs. Fluffybottom to his chest as Virgil got the movie set up. She’d been his favorite plushie for the entirety of his existence; he’d taken her on many adventures over the years but she’d comforted him through a number of breakdowns too. He swore there was actually something magical about her.
Virgil threw himself down next to Roman; he had swapped out his usual hoodie for one that was fully dark purple and had even longer sleeves. After Roman had stopped gawking around his room, Virgil had tossed a sweater at him. It was so bright it was practically neon but it was rainbow print and he loved it. He’d immediately changed out of his t-shirt and had grabbed Virgil in a tight hug. Roman definitely intended on starting a sweater paw fight at some point during their movie marathon.
“You good with Hercules?”
“No comedic relief sidekicks, huh?”
“Phil is not a sidekick!”
“What? Are you trying to tell me right now that Philoctetes is a main character? You can’t say he isn’t comedic relief! He gets hurt just for laughs way too often!”
“No! I mean. Maybe?”
Roman laughed, bumping his shoulder against Virgil’s. “Whatever, you dork. Of course I’m good with it. You could have picked The Black Cauldron and I would’ve been good.”
“Talking animal. Comic relief. Sidekick. Gurgi checks all of those boxes. I would’ve been going against my own word.”
“Hmm, fair,” Roman said, humming a little.
As the Muses began singing them through the opening, Roman took a moment to appreciate everything Virgil was doing for him. The basket of goodies was stocked with every one of Roman’s favorite snacks, including enough chocolate to make him sick. In fact, it’d been the first thing he’d decided on, before Virgil could even tell him what the plan for the day was. Not that it was really much of a plan, anyway. Today specifically had been set aside just for Virgil to spoil Roman however he wanted. That apparently meant marathoning Disney movies, napping as much as they pleased, and eating all the junk food they wanted. It was a far cry from how Roman usually spent his time; what with all of the projects he was constantly juggling, or the content he had to help Thomas produce, or the issues to take care of in the Fantasy Realm. He didn’t really realize even how hard he was always working.
Apparently, however, Virgil had.
Something was shoved into his face, startling him out of his thoughts. He shot a glare at Virgil, who was watching the movie and acting totally inconspicuous. The item turned out to be a stuffed dragon, one he didn’t recognize from his usual pile of plushies. The scales were shimmery, a nice ombre of purple and blue shades, the wings were tucked against the body, and… Holding his hand against the stomach was warmer than the rest, as if it had a belly full of fire. That was so cool! He squeezed it tight in his arms and went back to watching the movie, feeling even comfier than before.
With the credits rolling, Virgil ushered them both out of bed and into a couple minutes of stretching.
“I’m not having you complain to me later on when your bones start creaking.”
“You make it sound like I’m so old, Virgil!”
“Older than me,” Virgil teased. He ducked out of the way of a thrown cushion. “Oh, is that what we’re doing?!”
Roman took a face full of pillow and suddenly it was on. He couldn’t begin to guess how long they fought for, darting around the room and over the bed, swinging their feather-filled weapons at each other. He did know that by the time he collapsed on the floor, he was breathless with laughter. Virgil was so far gone that he’d dissolved into alternating between wheezes and complete silence. Eventually, they did manage to get back into their nest of blankets, though there was plenty of shoving, poking, and tickling as they did so.
“I dunno if I’ll make it through this next movie so pick one that I won’t mind falling asleep during.”
“You besmirch the name of Disney if you think there’s a single film boring enough to allow that!”
“You dozed off the first time we watched The Good Dinosaur.”
Roman spluttered. “I had just come back from a week-long quest! And that’s Pixar!”
Virgil actually cackled. “You can’t pull that excuse! Disney owns Pixar!”
“Stop bullying me,” Roman cried, “it’s my birthday!”
“It’s two days before your birthday, actually, so I can bully you all I like.”
“I’m picking The Black Cauldron, then! See how you like dozing off during your favorite movie.”
It perhaps hadn’t been his best choice. With Virgil snuggled into his side, warm and soft, the sound of his even breathing accompanying the utter lack of any songs… Well, Roman really didn’t last much longer. They found each other in the Dreamscape. Edges were fuzzy, sounds were muffled, and touch was electric. The Dream Palace was a blurry shape in the distance, attracting his attention every so often when its crystal spires caught the light. Virgil sort of just appeared, as if created from the colors of the setting sun. Roman had a feeling he was made of the field of flowers he’d woken up in.
“I like it here,” Virgil said, sitting down next to Roman.
“Remy does a nice job with it,” Roman agreed, slowly picking daisies and dandelions to weave into a crown.
“You do, too,” Virgil argued. “You have a hand in almost everything, you know.”
Roman frowned at him. “I do not.”
“Yes, Ro,” Virgil insisted, “you do. The Memory Archives look the way that they do because you and Logan watched one episode of Doctor Who together and had the inspiration to redesign.”
Roman chuckled, a little nervously. “I guess.”
“Memory Lane doesn’t hurt Patton because it knows better than to hurt anyone you love. It might be connected to him and his room, but you’re the one that created that safety net.”
“Virgil…” Roman tried, voice slightly strangled.
“I just need you to know how important you are. You aren’t told enough.”
“It’s fine—”
“You’re important, Roman. You matter. You make a difference.”
Roman finally stopped trying to tie together the stems of the flowers. Virgil took his shaking hands into his own and held them tightly. It was just enough that Roman could actually feel it versus the tingly sensation that the Dreamscape normally worked with.
“We love you. We appreciate you and your hard work.”
If it weren’t for that everything around them was already blurry, Roman might not have noticed his vision swimming when tears filled his eyes. It was hard to not know suddenly that he was crying, though, regardless of how physically present he was in this space.
Virgil let go of his hands and instead, cradled his face gently. “I know I go against you sometimes but in the long run, I want you to be just as happy as you make the rest of us.”
He waited a moment longer before smiling and squishing Roman’s cheeks. Roman giggled a bit in response. Virgil gave him two careful pats before pulling away. Picking up the flower crown Roman had abandoned, he set to work on finishing it. Roman wiped his tears away and sat still in the sunshine, content to simply let himself soak it up until he was completely warm from the inside out.
When they woke, the screen projected onto the ceiling was displaying a screensaver of 3D pipes. The forest outside the windows had been replaced with a cliffside view of the ocean. Virgil stirred next to him, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He absentmindedly pressed a kiss to Roman’s cheek before getting out of bed. He was gone for a little while, during which Roman found two more plushies that he didn’t recognize. They were a gryphon and a lion, both extremely soft to the touch, and with fierce expressions that reminded Roman of how Virgil looked when he was in fight mode. He wondered how these new stuffed animals kept sneaking into his collection but he certainly wasn’t complaining.
When Virgil returned, Roman burst into laughter, because yes, he supposed there was no chance of sneaking that one into the pile.
“There won’t be any room for me in bed, Virgil!”
“Guess you better get used to sleeping on the floor then,” Virgil said, dropping the massive Simba plushie on top of Roman.
This just made Roman laugh harder. The fabric on this one was fluffier than on the others, something he could sink his fingers into if he wanted. It was nearly as big as him, or maybe it just felt like that right now since it was smothering him. Before he could move it, though, Virgil sank himself down onto it as well.
“Virgil!!” Roman gasped between snickers. “Get off, you fiend!”
“Hmm…” Virgil hummed, pondering. From where he was laying, he could just barely look directly into Roman’s eyes. This made it all the funnier when he finally decided, in the most deadpan tone, “nah.”
After some wrestling, which led to them both falling out of bed and Roman bumping his elbow and howling for five minutes about his funny bone before Virgil kissed it better, they were finally settled back in to continue their movie marathon.
They watched Moana, Tarzan, and, Mary Poppins before sleep began to take them once more. Seeing as the sun had sunk below the sea quite some time ago, it was safe to assume it was late enough to call it a night.
“I got you…” Virgil paused to yawn. “Got you one more thing…”
“Vee—”
“‘S not much.” He held out Mrs. Fluffybottom for Roman to take. “I just… I made it so that she can never be hurt.”
For a moment, Roman’s lethargy was chased away by astonishment and surprise. He could feel the enchantment just from holding her, though it was passing by the second as the magic was fully absorbed.
“I know you… take her on adventures a lot. Fightin’ bad guys ‘n stuff.” Virgil shifted further into the blankets as sleep continued to take hold on him. “Wanna keep her safe. Know you will, anyway. But jus’ in case.”
Roman rolled onto his side so that he was facing Virgil. He kept the bunny plush tucked between them and took one of Virgil’s hands in his. “Thank you…”
“Love you. Happy birthday, princey,” Virgil told him, papping him once more on the cheek.
Sleep settled over them quickly after. Roman would wake in the morning, feeling more secure and warm than he had in quite some time, surrounded by plushies and Virgil’s arms, and know that he had so much to be grateful for.

finally doing some stuff for OCs I never do anything with oop XD" here's the full cast lineup for my story Viki, which is one of my oldest stories that I still plan to do something with, lol. (they've been around even before I started teaching myself how to draw!) these guys have been through a LOT of redesigns over the years, but I'm pretty satisfied with these designs. I changed the plot a bit to make it more of a sci-fi story, but a lot of the the original themes still stand X3 and now I'm gonna ramble about the characters and the story like I always do lol
the story starts with Steve Emmerson and Julia Sezmachek, a young couple whose relationship was like that in a fairy-tale. ask anyone who knew them, and they'd say that no two souls had never been more in love. Julia was young and sweet and beautiful, like a Disney princess, and Steve was her chivalrous Prince Charming who would do anything for his princess. their wedding was one of the happiest days of their lives, and when they one day found out Julia was pregnant, they were overjoyed. the majority of Julia's pregnancy was stable and healthy as the happy couple eagerly expected a beautiful baby girl.    but such happiness could never last forever. while Julia planned on being a stay-at-home mother and letting Steve earn money as a doctor, she was also an insanely curious woman, so it was only a matter of time before she found out of Steve's connections with scientists whose work did not follow basic safety codes. in her curiosity, she stumbled upon the lab of one of her husband's friends, where she had an accident just days before her due date. no one knows exactly what happened in that lab. but when Steve suddenly heard screaming from the lab and frantically rushed over to the scene, his wife was on the floor, in pain, strange chemicals scattered all around her, and her water had just broke. there was no time to investigate what happened as Steve frantically rushed Julia to the hospital to deliver their baby. and when they arrived, it didn't take the doctors long to realize that the baby Julia was giving birth to was much, much different from what they saw in the sonograms. one emergency c-section later, and Julia had given birth to a monster.    18 years later, Viktoria Emmerson, more commonly known as simply Viki, wonders what her life would have been like if her parents hadn't been so horrified of her monstrous form that they gave her up to a literally underground research facility. like her mother, Viki is very curious and sweet-natured, but she can be rather temperamental, and her feral instincts make it hard for her to control her emotions. she longs to explore the outside world, and Dr Jacinda Calleron, the woman who more or less raised Viki as her own daughter, also wishes the young mutant could have some freedom, but she knows that Viki would never be entirely safe out there. standing at 6'9" without even counting her horns or her ears, well over 200 pounds of muscle, and freakishly mutated, Viki is far too fearsome in appearance for her to be seen by just anyone. she also has immense physical strength and sharpened senses, something Dr Chad Ingrid likes to take advantage of. you see, the facility Viki has been raised in is no more ethical in nature than the scientists Steve used to work with, and Dr Ingrid has ran countless cruel experiments on poor Viki to help him create his own "supplements". Dr Calleron has never approved of any of the experiments Viki suffered through in her life, and if it weren't for her, the mutant's existence would be much more bleak, but Dr Calleron has gifted her with many things to enrich Viki's life. thanks to her, Viki was able to learn many artistic skills and research whatever subject she wanted. because of this, she is quite book-smart and very musically talented, but socially naive. Viki feels like it's her fault that Jacinda and Chad are forced to work together even though they don't get along in the slightest, and when they get into a huge fight, Viki disguises herself and finally escapes from the research facility that night.        Viki bravely manages to hitch herself onto a moving train in the middle of the night and rides it until she comes up to a small Texan town that morning. that's where she meets the Danlane family-- parents Hank and Denalia, siblings Dinah, Ralphie, and Ben, and their Great Pyrenees dog Snowstorm. they're pretty well-known in the area for their goofy yet friendly nature, and Hank is something of a local celebrity due to his job as a rodeo clown. as a running gag, his face is never shown without clown makeup. his Romani wife Denalia was a dancer in her youth, but now makes good money as an electrician. perhaps that's where their daughter Dinah got her intelligence from-- she's currently in college for engineering and is already great and building and fixing mechanical things! her love for greasy workshops and working with power-tools doesn't stop her from being a girly-girl at heart though X3 meanwhile Ralphie is likely the biggest dork in town, but he's great at making people laugh. in fact, he aims to become a stand-up comedian one day! and young Ben is rather innocent and kinda spacey, but his positive nature is contagious. he's very physically agile and can dance like his mother, but he's also a skilled tree-climber, to the point where people affectionately compare him to a monkey. Viki is immediately attracted to him and quickly falls in love with Ben. and Snowstorm is your typical pooch who has NO clue how huge he is and frequently crushes poor smol Ben by sitting in his lap, but he can't possibly be mad at THAT face X3 they're the first people to befriend Viki and even offer to let her stay with them, and when they accidentally see her without her disguise, they don't shun her for her monstrous appearance and accept her. and for the first time ever, Viki feels truly happy.    Viki also meets three aspiring rockers-- Zeke Choi is a smooth, confident metal guitarist and Dinah's boyfriend. Celia Choi, Zeke's twin sister and Ralphie's girlfriend, is generally very soft-spoken, but don't let that fool you-- this girl can SCREAM! she prefers to take the backseat as a bassist, though. and Penny Hamilton is an eccentric drummer who used to date Ben before realizing her true identity as a lesbian. to this day, they're best friends. the three of them needed a singer to complete their rock band, so when they discover Viki has a beautiful voice, they know they found their frontwoman~    it's not all fun and games after Viki runs away from the facility though, as Dr Ingrid is in pursuit to get her back and Viki has to protect her friends as well as come to terms with her mommy and daddy issues. but perhaps she needs to learn how to accept herself before she can do any of that...

N'Pressions: She-Ra and the Princess of Power
Tumblr media
So a bit of content for going in to this. I have no nostalgic connection to the original She-Ra. I’ve seen maybe the first couple episodes and that was because YouTube suggested them to me because I was watching Bravestarr at the time (thanks Silverquill). Second I have no issues with more female action cartoons or even animations intended for more female audiences. Nox knows they haven’t exactly had the best reputation especially when it comes to western animation. And finally, I have no issue of diversity when it feels organic and I’ll get into that a bit more when I talk about the show. When the She-Ra reboot was first announced, there was a lot of hate especially with the one leaked image and She-Ra’s new redesign. Outside of that, I’ve avoided any previews or other spoilers since it wasn’t really on my radar for a while. And DreamWorks has really shone when it comes to their TV shows as of late; even more so than their films which honestly have not impressed me all that much. So I knew that it would be at least something decent. And yes I know the show has been out for over a month now, but I’ve had my hands full with Nanowrimo that ironically has a young female protagonist becoming a hero…total coincidence I swear!
So let’s get into the basic plot. Adora is a young cadet trained to fight in the Horde army and is the leading student under Shadoweaver. After getting a promotion to Force Captain, she and her best friend Catra decide to explore outside the Fright Zone. Meanwhile, Princess Glimmer and her boyfriend Bow go out into the Whispering Woods to investigate a tech signal hoping to impress her mother after a disastrous mission against the Horde. And I will give credit to how they set things up for the rest of the season. We see Adora and Catra’s sisterly relationship and their individual ambitions to be the best in their goals as well as Glimmer’s desire to really prove herself at least on par with her mother. Things start to kick in when Adora and Catra are separated and Adora comes across the Sword of Protection along with Glimmer and Bow. The two fight and nearly get themselves killed in a temple. Under restraints with intention to turn Adora over to the resistance for interrogation. Along the way, Adora slowly realizes that the Horde is actually evil and that she’s been lied to all her life. After fending off a tank assault as She-Ra, the plot sets in motion the breaking relationship between Adora and Catra and the growing relationship with her and Glimmer.
So instead of a bad guy plot of the week of the original, the show decides to be more of an overarching story and essentially a coming of age story. Because we do see Adora slowly come to terms with her new responsibility and well as letting go of her past. I do actually like Adora. She can be a bit awkward, but she’s also focused and determined and wants to be on top of what task she’s given with; which makes since because she’s lived a militaristic lifestyle for so long. I will admit Bow and Sea Hawk can be a bit cringy sometimes because their jokes will carry on to long-so maybe if they dialed it back a bit in the next season that would work greatly in their favor.
We might as well get the big elephant out of the way and that is the character designs. I will admit I am not a fan of the new design for She-Ra. And please hear me out because it’s not necessarily the reason that a lot of people are carrying on about. To me, the design feels…off. It doesn’t really feel like Princess of Power to me. The design does feel a bit too masculine and if this was ANY other show-I would not be as harsh on it. From what we’ve gotten from the lore of She-Ra; she is a force of both destruction and creation and overall a symbol of hope. And everyone refers to her as an 8ft tall woman. I am not asking for her to be overly sexualized. I get it. She’s a warrior woman first and foremost. But like I said, there seems to be this whole mythology about her and that’s not what I’m getting from the design. Honestly Miraculous Ladybug from her titular show and Emara from Emara Emerates (seriously go see it) feel more feminine than She-Ra and they have similar concepts behind their design. Which is sad because a lot of the other character designs work. I mean, come on, the original all had the same body type since the show was intended to sell toys on the cheap. I will give credit to the artists for giving variety to character designs and give the world a bit more of a fleshed out feel to it. We’ve got a nice variety of silhouettes and colors that I think works in the favor of the world they’re trying to create. Also, they’re not shoving it in your face. And if we’re going to bring up the whole LGBT thing, I feel mixed on it honestly. I’m not sure if it’s there just to be there or they’re going to go somewhere with it. Then again it was not a foremost thought of mine when going through this show for review. Cop out answer? Maybe? But it’s not something that I actively hunt for when watching a show.
Speaking of which, on to the animation. It…it really could stand some improvement. It feels a bit like the leftover animation budget from Voltron. Sometimes the action doesn’t have as good flow and impact as it needs or the emotional moments don’t feel as expressive. Now the original She-Ra was NO Disney good gods no. The reboot way outclasses that in that department. However, it doesn’t feel as clean or animated compared to other 2d shows in DreamWorks’ wheelhouse such as Voltron or Trolls: the Beat Goes on or even the 2D segments from the Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness. I do feel that is something they really need to work on going forward. Am I seeming a bit harsh on this show? A little. But because I know it has the potential to really be something. Maybe not what the myriad of original fans want, but definitely something for the newer fans. Heck, the first seasons of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic or even Voltron: Legendary Defender have somewhat mediocre first seasons, but they’ve gotten stronger over time and have gathered a slew of new fans.
Overall, the show is fine. There really is not anything controversial about it that people want to believe is there. Is it something I am going to come back to personally? Most likely not, but I don’t fully regret giving it a chance. I’ve seen it, had my thoughts, and moving on. If people like it, that’s fine-it just really didn’t catch my continued interest and I wish it the best in its future seasons. I’m Noctina Noir and I’m one Nox of a Nobody.
