I think Aventio and Screwtio shippers shouldn't fight. After all, Ratio has two hands!
That's right. Two hands.
One for his chalk.
One for his codex.
Both of which he's holding in an embarrassed death grip as they chat away with each other about him.
#I'm on to something here#screwtio#aventio#hsr aventurine#veritas ratio#dr ratio#screwllum#hsr#honkai star rail#now as a disclaimer I'm not personally a huge fan of aventio#exclusively because i think they are so SO much funnier as gay friends#but something about combining the two clicks really well to me#Aventurine and Screwllum would be pretty fantastic metamours i think#they'd have a lot of fun playing off each other#but also Screwllum being there to dispute Aventurine's doubts over whether or not Ratio cares as a verified outside perspective#listing off shit like upticks in heartrate pupil dialation etc on top of being like#he talks about you fondly he knows your favorite things i can personally attest that you are very evidently important to him#stuff Aventurine can't easily write off when coming from not only an outside perspective but also a literal Genius#and on the flip side Aventurine would finally have someone other than Ratio and the Trailblazer he can talk to with relative ease#someone who has also been through a frankly incredibly traumatizing historical event#someone who is also under constant pressure to perform a certain way#someone who has gained wealth and power at the cost of carrying responsibilities on his shoulders and never being truly free#appearing free to anyone who glances but neither of them really are#Screwllum seemingly able to freely pursue whatever research he wants but ultimately permanently shackled with his titles#and public pressure to be the perfect poised representative for all of inorganic kind#forever treading the line of being both a desirable ally and a sufficient threat that you wouldn't want to cross him#and similarly Aventurine stuck in his cycle that he feels only death can free him from of gambling with his life on the line#because the IPC basically owns him#because let's be honest Jade's offer was just a lifetime labor contract he couldn't refuse#granted the illusion of freedom through gaining money and power but never truly free

Something something about Eddie learning Buck will be there for him off the job, even without Chris being in the equation.
Something something about that being an important realisation for him to finally make because he’s always hidden behind his son when it comes to Buck (and his love life more generally - even Shannon in reality was for Chris not himself) but he won’t be able to this time.
Something something about that realisation being the key to giving himself permission to examine his heart and feel his true feelings.

something bad did indeed happen to that man. spent abt 25 minutes trying to find a better picture of that one (1) offical piece with his eyes open that wasnt compressed or tiny
#library of ruina#yan library of ruina#getting comfortable doodling some objects and mannequin shapes for very obvious reasons. i read the keypage story and now it has a grip on#my brain. wanting to go ahead and plan it out and then draw the mangled memory and nightmare that replays behind the eyelids in the darknes#it was cool to see the reason confirmed from my speculation. twas indeed another reason of blocking out present pain with closing of eyes#considering they made angela have a plot important reason for doing so it would only make sense for another to have a reason for it as well#well. after having a prominent part inside the thumb/index story line. its just going to be yapping about yan now i think#let me add a spoiler tag i suppose? vauge but just incase i dont want to be an asshole. even if most already have played rhe game#library of ruina spoilers#lor spoilers#i really liked the typewritter effect over the voice after distortion. especially so when the effect finishes before the actual garbled voi#does. it makes it feel as if it were being read out after it being written down rather than of own words or volition. along with the text#upon the screen during the fight being just prescripts rather than anything relating to the man himself like the other instances with such#text had been. paired w the name of distorted yan being untranslated to keep the intent of the name being unreadable or not understandable#more into the idea of stripping away of the self or any sense of a self. not personal and not even him anymore. the following of a goal for#the goal for it is given and there isnt any hope of having the ability to not do such a thing. people yearn for a reason and something to d#and for it to be given to them to not hold responsibility nor have to do their own choices anymore. once a crushing weight weighs down#inside the face of an absolute cruelty that is perpetuated and that crushed the dreams or even desires having them be but nothing how can#one move on? it was really nice to see at the end of the fight. its easier to just say such things than to actually do them. even if the ac#ions dont even feel as if they are ones own or that there isnt any say in the matter having to endure all the pain for seemingly nothing it#still is pain. that feeling inside is still real. it still happened. regardless of the circumstances that brought them about#the thumb/index or just fingers seem to be an exaggerated to the extreme showcase of how the colletivist mindset in an unhealthy manner#could be exhibited. the thumb with its hierarchy and absoluteness and the demand for respect along with its strict layers of showing who is#below and who is above. the ability to have power over those underneath . the participation inside of it and the already brought up yearnin#to be apart of a group and to have a title and position inside of a group and of power and even a desire like from pete to join one iirc#the index being of the cruel perpetuating cycle of pain people inflict upon one another a behavior beaten and upkept by the systems as they#drift and desire to live. which causes them to partcipate in that cycle out of necessity. cruel acts upon another in order to live and seei#a need to go ahead and do such things for if they dont they die and another will just do the same to them. social sciences talk and rolands#talks abt how the city opperates reinforce that fact. the index and prescripts are really just a show inside that extreme manner and in a#more literal sense of that. it was really cool to read it..

I have drafted up too many posts about my feelings about being in this fandom lately and particularly about how that feeds into my views on the show. I don’t know.
Was even going to add more onto this but then I’ll probably not be able to even finish my line of thoughts for this post and also again end up saving this to my drafts.
#the dragon prince#tdp#fandom critical#idk how to explain it fully#it’s just too many thoughts I’ve formulated that’s be too many to share at once#it’s just what I’ve been saying for a long time really#more and more it’s seemingly clear that certain opinions are not outright stated to be but are shown to not be tolerated by the fandom#and really important conversations cannot be had about the show#regardless of the negative or positive perspective any sort of commentary that could be attributed to it may share#and like#I’m not at all enforcing my views onto other people#in fact the very fundamental reason why I want to have these conversations is to avoid that#but I honestly feel like you cannot simply reframe from these conversations cuz they make you uncomfortable or you don’t like them#no it’s important to talk about these things in order to understand the show and they really really need to be talked about#and I’m tired of them not only being avoided but just straight up shut down on here#fuck I just want to talk about the nuances of the show in all aspects#not exclusively in one way or another#we’re not really acknowledging how truly nuanced then the show is are we?#idk let’s see if I have the confidence to make an actual post on this#hopefully that won’t get shut down either#okay just one more thing#like I recently saw someone make a really great meta on the show and it got hardly any notes or anything#and it was not only not negative towards the show but it was defending it while also considering ppl’s feelings regarding it#but I think it hardly got any notes since ppl automatically assumed it was negative#and that’s so unfortunate cuz it was on an important topic for the show that has not been discussed nearly enough imo

I was watching Froggy hear about the Gaycation, and whilst it's still fucking hilarious, there were some good points raised.
First among them is that these men clearly believe that "being gay will destroy my life" and that the Gaycation is a way to side-step this inevitable destruction "because it's not gay".
Remember the second man's continued insistence that the beauty of the Gaycation is that he can "be a good citizen" (not be gay) AND "be happy" (have gay sex).
That kind of internalized homophobia doesn't emerge from a vacuum.
The OP having the Manchester-discussion makes it perfectly understandable for her to divorce him (he's emotionally distraught by this, but he considers the Gaycation more important than the sanctity of their marriage).
Then she empties their "shared account". Which is... Alright, sometimes women aren't the "bread-winners" in the family, and economic abuse is absolutely a thing that can happen. Her deciding to preempt that by clearing out their shared account is sensible.
If that's what's actually going on.
The truth is that we don't really have anything to go on in regards to their economical situation prior to her deciding to do this. Perhaps that's where they put all of their income, perhaps it was more a "parenting fund", perhaps any other number of things. She doesn't elaborate, so the story just continues.
Then the in-laws call her.
The mother calling her back afterwards can be easily explained as her feeling horrible about the shit she'd said about the innocent party, and the father's anger could easily be related to their son "throwing away" a seemingly happy marriage on some dumb bachelor's trip (and then lying to them about it).
But... uhh... they also basically mention that they kicked him out, just as the wife mentions that she changed the locks, and implied that her children would not be seeing their father in the near future.
And those actions could all be related to him trying to get away with cheating on his wife.
But all of those things combined with the incredibly severe case of internalized homophobia that caused this Gaycation nonsense in the first place?
It... makes me think that perhaps they weren't wrong to be afraid of what "being gay" would mean for their lives. And that makes me feel like the Gaycation is... a lot more sad than it is funny.

The Evolution of RPGs: Little Wars
Ever since toy soldiers have been widely available, a common way of playing with them is to line them up and fire toy projectiles at them. In 1913, science fiction novelist H. G. Wells published Little Wars, a codified set of rules for a wargame based on this toy-soldier-projectile concept. Wells' rules were highly anachronistic in terms of simulation, and were chiefly concerned with keeping the game light and easy for its presumed target audience of young children. Though Little Wars was not the first set of rules for a toy-soldier-projectile wargame, it was the seed from which decades of similar wargames emerged. This lineage of wargames bears significance to the later design culture of RPGs in only one key respect: the wide use of "folk" and DIY rules. The wargamers of this niche did not really play any one consistent or standardized "game" (except, perhaps, in tournament contexts). Rather, they developed a shared pool of common practices and rule-sets from which they would construct new games on an ad-hoc basis. Especially through the 1950's and 60's, it would not have been terribly unusual for a given wargamer club to locally design a completely unique game for every new scenario they wished to play. Wargamers meeting new opponents from outside their local circle might need to do some negotiation to settle on a balanced design before playing. Occasionally, popular clusters of rules would see publication in the enthusiast zines (the typical pre-internet method for communication between isolated gaming groups), and it's through those that we can trace their evolution back to Little Wars – but it's better to understand them as a continuous, collective trend, rather than as a succession of discrete titles.

i'm so sorry but kidnap is truly turning into peak comedy to me through the sheer number of times both of these boys flipflop on whether they definitely want to be together for every second forever or they'd rather heroically sacrifice their own desires for the greater good of love and family and zombie metaphors. i'm not sure i'm experiencing this as a rollercoaster but it's for sure an extraordinarily intense bouncy castle at least. and i have to admit, i can't not respect it! they're getting me dizzy but i can't look away from the screen because if i do they might have broken up and gone through five stages of grief and gotten back together again

not going to post a screenshot or anything because I don’t wish to start shit, but in the replies of the finn gifset I just reblogged there’s someone complaining that the film shows us kylo getting his stitches taking out while we don’t see any concern for finn’s health because the film prioritises white men. I mean….

i guess they just put finn in a bacta suit for fun, then

Bridgertons' favorite Hamlet monologues
tagging @glintglimmergleam and @avocado-moon with continuing Viscount's Men shenanigans
Edmund - "Let me speak to the yet unknowing world how these things came about" - Act 5, Scene 2 Horatio speaking to Fortinbras after everyone's dead; really moving but simple enough to tie it all in a bow.
Violet - "I have of late, but wherefore I know not, lost all my mirth" - Act 2, Scene 2 Hamlet explaining to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern why they've been sent for; he can see the beauty of the world, and the sky fretted with golden fire, but he's forgotten how to feel it.
Anthony - How All Occasions Do Inform Against Me - Act 4, Scene 4 Hamlet about to be sent away to England wishing he could be as decisive as Fortinbras, the kind of man his father wanted for a son.
Benedict - "Speak it as I pronounced it to you, trippingly on the tongue" - Act 3, Scene 2 Hamlet's speech to the actors before the play. Theater is magic, art is magic, we hold a mirror up to nature and learn ourselves as we do.
Colin - "Thoughts black, hands apt, drugs fit, and time agreeing" - Act 3 Scene 2 Lucianus the poisoner in murder of gonzago; mostly Colin likes the excuse to ham it up a little with purposefully bad acting.
Daphne - "There is a willow, grows aslant a brook" - Act 4, Scene 7 Gertrude telling Laertes how his sister died, and making a doubtful death into something that can be remembered for her beauty and innocence. Whether Gertrude saw Ophelia drown or was told about it later is the topic of Much Debate in the Bridgerton household.
Eloise - "Oh that this too, too solid flesh would melt"- Act 1, Scene 2 Hamlet finally alone after the formal court session from hell, where he's forbidden from going to university and he has to see a mother who loved his father so dearly, settle for less than she deserves.
Francesca - "O, my offense is rank, it smells to heaven!" - Act 3, Scene 3 Claudius in the chapel, trying desperately to pray, or trying desperately to believe that he can just get away with all this and it'll turn out fine, choking on his own sin. This speech goes hard and is most of the reason Frannie wanted the role.
Gregory - "Here is newly come to court Laertes, believe me, a most excellent gentleman" - Act 5, Scene 2 Not a speech, but Osric's part of the dialogue where he's inviting Hamlet to duel with Laertes, because there's a lot of potential for humor and innuendo.
Hyacinth - "A little ere the mightiest Caeser fell" - Act 1, Scene 1 Horatio after seeing the ghost, talking about how there's precedent. Hyacinth has been studying her roman history lately and was very excited to see this speech (usually cut from productions).

Need to vent momentarily so uh…
Had a giant fight with my mom this morning about admiring Elon Musk or Donald Trump just because they’re “successful” which also evolved into her again critiquing her own children and how I pointed out that the shit she says about us can be hurtful, even when she insists she’s trying to be “encouraging.”
I won’t go into detail about it because my family issues are insane sometimes—but I wanted to add this context because maybe I still have some leftover frustration and rage from that, and I guess because I’ve experienced another weeks and weeks’ pile-up of sinophobia, and I’m also overwhelmed by how awful the world is right now with the continued genocide of Palestine but also the rise in normalization of right wing politics, but I saw something today that just added to the frustration because God I hate how people can’t see “the Other” in a less prejudiced light.
It’s not a big deal but saw some sinophobia today that with my poor mood didn’t help exactly:
Basically, there’s a short from a year ago about Chinese celebrities being snubbed at international events to the point that one of them (Liu Yifei) got cut off from a group photo and how another (Zhang Yuqi) got asked to get off the red carpet because they assumed she wasn’t a guest despite her being all dressed up.
The comments are all bullshit like “well they work for the CCP right? So they deserve to be ignored” or “why are you stirring up drama? Just because they’re famous in China doesn’t mean they’re famous internationally” or “haha a taste of China’s own medicine.”
Like oh my God, shut up.
These are international events. Why are you acting like snubbing an international guest isn’t worthy of critique? Just because you hate the country’s politics?? In that case, if you don’t even recognize the celebrity, how do you even know if they work for the oh-so-evil CCP???
It’s always “I don’t hate the Chinese; I just hate their government” until it comes to actual Chinese people because then your poor brain just assumes Chinese people are an extension of their government. You think these celebrities work for the government just by simply existing?? How? Do you think they pay their wages to the CCP or some shit???
Kpop fans mentioned for years that kpop celebrities were snubbed at international red carpets until recently. Why the hell don’t fans of Chinese celebrities get to point it out then?
#kuku vents#I know this isn’t that important#but sometimes it’s the minute things that get to you…you know?#there is bigger sinophobia stuff right now like how people think the recent 35 dead in China after a man drove a car into a crowd#is being covered up by the government#but that big sinophobia stuff is all stuff you expect#this littler instance of sinophobia is frustrating because it shows how normalized sinophobia is to the point it penetrates#these seemingly less important things#why should ‘people don’t deserve to be snubbed’ be a controversial take?? just because they’re Chinese???#also I am admittedly in a really poor mood#I think I fell into depression in October#and I finally kicked it a lot more than usual yesterday to do some cleaning and other productive stuff#but then I had the fight with my mom which made me feel like shit#we fought until the topic moved onto something less hurtful and explosive#but it genuinely made me explode for a while#and I haven’t exploded in some time because I try to avoid conflicts with my mom now and to keep her happy#but I’m the only one at home with her now so I have to put up with her attitude and temper#and I feel a lot of pressure overall from my family to ‘do well’ despite my interests being ‘less useful’#and my family still has other issues too that makes the pressure worse#I don’t even want to vent about my current personal issues anywhere (not with my friends or even my diary) because it’s that stressful#I genuinely don’t even want to think about it#I just kind of feel like I’m going insane

Fandom Year in Review Asks
Favorite fictional characters this year
Last year's undisputed blorbo of Esteban Flores (Elena of Avalor) has continued into this year, though it has been a struggle considering how largely quiet the fandom is (and the fact that I am once again indifferent to the most common/popular ships in what remains of said fandom).
My love for the Ace Attorney fandom continues, and due to the release of the AAI collection port, I have been strongly in my Kay Faraday feels in particular. (Literally every time I pick up my game to play more, I am just overwhelmed by how adorable and funny and endearing and overall 'best girl' she is at all times).
In terms of new-to-me fandoms, I have enjoyed the "helluvaverse" and particularly the characters of Sir Pentious from Hazbin Hotel and Moxxie and Millie from Helluva Boss.
However, 2024 is most notable as the year I finally bit the bullet and ventured into the intimidating sphere of comic book fandom and predictably became DCU trash. My main blorbo is Dick Grayson, who I already knew pretty well through general pop cultural osmosis (mainly Adam West Batman and half-remembered episodes of BTAS from my childhood).
Other DC characters that I already sort of knew from general knowledge but grew to really love are Clark Kent and Lois Lane. I also had peripheral knowledge of the rest of the "bat kids" from my DC fan mutuals, so I also figured I would probably like them as well--and I did (Though I under-estimated how much I would adore Stephanie Brown in particular). However, I did also encounter some additional faves characters that were pretty much entirely new to me--of which I would say that Donna Troy and Garth of Shayeris are the ultimate faves. (Though I pretty much love everyone from most Titans lineups tbh)
Your fictional true love of the year
As of late, my current main blorbos are more "projection objects" for me than crushes. I do find them attractive and enjoy reading the sexitimes fic, but they are not characters that I can particularly see myself dreaming about dating tbh. Still in terms of which ones I loved the most in a platonic sense and dedicated the most time to, probably either Esteban Flores or Dick Grayson as seen above.
In terms of fictional characters that are crush-worthy examples specifically, it's probably gotta be either Shi-Long Lang or Justine Courtney/Verity Gavelle from Ace Attorney Investigations or Hercule Flambeau from BBC Father Brown. In all three cases, I spent pretty much the entire time said characters were on-screen smiling with my face in my hands like a schoolgirl.
