Here's the deal on the Good Omens limbo situation. My optimistic and analytic two cents, if you will.

If we look at this through a capitalistic lens, the chances of the show being cancelled are pretty slim at the moment. Think for a moment about the top three amazon prime originals that you pay/keep the platform for. Can you think of three? I honestly can't, not off the top of my head. I know I'm not really the target audience for streaming services, since I don't watch a lot of new shows, but still. I can name plenty of netflix shows I like/might watch. That's why Netflix can cancel anything and everything so easy. They don't have just one or two fandom cash cows.

Amazon, though, doesn't have a lot. Here's a list of all their original shows. I only even recognize 8 titles. I've only actually watched 2. Plus, Good Omens is currently one of the biggest fandoms in fandom right now, with Aziracrow being the top ship on ao3 for the Jan-Dec 2023 wrap up and again on the Summer 2024 leaderboard, as well as the top ship on tumblr and Good Omens as the top tv show (plus second overall after Artists on Tumblr) for 2023. We're a big deal, and I'd bet money that they're betting money on us. I also lowkey think we're the reason Amazon is spending money on a british miniseries starring Michael Sheen tbh but that's just speculation. The show has also won a slew of awards, the same of which cannot, to my knowledge, be said of many of their other properties.

So let's talk production changes; I think there's a good chance they're doing this for the same reason. Our fandom had unique access to the creator via tumblr, and a majority of the conversation around the allegations of SA against Gaiman were and are taking place in fandom spaces. There have been petitions to fire him from the show and conversations (both productive and otherwise) about the duties of fandom when engaging with content connected to problematic individuals. Meanwhile, Gaiman has effectively dissappeared from the internet. Additionally, the video and threads sharing that Terry Pratchett wrote most of the original book have been making the rounds here and I think on the bird app(?). All that to say, if they're betting on us they want to make us happy and keep their good PR. I don't ever expect a major corporation to make a "good" decision, but they will always make the profitable one.

There is, of course, also the matter of the Pratchett estate and the other major players in the matter: the actors, directors, and creative team. These are forces at play with the power to block or stall productivity and profit for Amazon through copyright and labor power. I can imagine there's conversations happening backstage that we don't know about as well as what we see in headlines.

Ultimately, I think the biggest risk to season 3 is unfortunately going to be Neil Gaiman himself and how he responds to the situation at hand. If he steps back quietly, we're living in our best case scenario and everything moves forward as much according to plan as can be expected with at least this small justice being served. I see a hissy fit on his end as the greatest potential wrench in proceedings, but that would exacerbate the (currently quiet in the mainstream) bad PR for him so I give it low odds.

All that to say. From a pragmatic viewpoint, Amazon's best interest seems to be entirely tied to ours as a fandom, and I anticipate Season 3 being made and most likely being only minorly delayed. Either way. What happens behind the scenes in corporate office buildings between rich white men is entirely out of my and your control. I know how huge anxiety can get when it relates to a special interest or a community that has a huge role in your life, and whatever happens we're in this together as a fandom. It's going to be alright. Take a deep breath and maybe get some water. Whatever happens, we're in this together as a fandom, and at least it won't be the end of the world;)

"We should welcome twitter users coming to tumblr" yeah okay but have you ever had to interact with twitter fandom people? They're some of the nastiest beings to ever exist on this fucking planet.

They're the same who stalked Joseph Quinn wherever he went after season 4 of Stranger Things dropped and Eddie Munson became a fan favourite, leaking his dating app profile and his private cellphone number. (They also leaked Gaten Matarazzo’s cellphone number from what I got.)

They’re the same who harassed the Heartstopper cast so much that one of the main actors deactivated his twitter profile and the other was forced into coming out as bi.

And god forbid if you DARE criticizing the show they like, even if you’re a fan of it yourself. Just this morning I got a load of shit thrown at me on twitter because I dared pointing out how netflix acts in different ways towards wlw shows than mlm shows. I went about it logically looking at stats, and used First Kill and Young Royals as an example, because I watched both and the stats were very different in terms of budget, of views, etc. so overall, an easier comparison to make than between two shows who had almost identical stats.

Somehow (considering I usually get, at most 10 interactions under a tweet on a good day), my tweet blew up among Young Royals fans and I got 1000+ among replies and qrts of people who disagreed and I thought okay, not everybody has the same opinion right? Conctructive criticism is a thing right?

Well, on the goddamn blue bird app it is not.

People just said stuff like “it’s just because that First Kill sucks ass” and I tried explaining why (aka the tanking starting budget), so they went on to straight up calling me stupid, dumb, ignorant, they said I did not understand that one is Netflix USA and the other is from Netflix Nordic, mixed with a lot of swearwords in the crassest display ever.

And like. The fun thing is, I’m completing a master’s degree in Swedish. With my main faculty being media criticism. It will literally be my job, one day, to translate and criticize Swedish-speaking and English-speaking media.

Plus, though it’s not one of my favourites, I’m a fan of Young Royals myself because I started watching it to practice my Swedish language skills, and actually worked with its subtitles for a project of translation I had to do for class.

Tumblr may be a hellsite (affectionate) bit it’s really chill now, and kind of a safe heaven for me where I can interact with any kind of fandom and talk freely about which shows, characters and ships/pairings I love (i.e. apparently everyone on twitter is a Billy Hargrove anti. Seriously. Went to see if there were some fanarts, hcs, or other pieces of fanon really, but there was nothing except for hate tweets against both the characters and fans who like him), even when it comes to more serious and technical stuff like why netflix dooms certain shows from the start (cough cough First Kill cough cough) and I would hate to see it become full of hate just like twitter is.

Soooo, tl;dr: Like hell am I welcoming people you can’t have a civil discussion over anything with here.

i don’t have one single favorite, but one of my favorites is the perks of being a wallflower!

i think it’s mostly my face/body hair. i’m naturally very hairy and i sort of had kind of a unibrow and a slight mustache as a kid even though i’m afab. it was very noticeable because i also have black hair. my teeth were also crooked before i got braces, and i used to wear glasses before i got corrective contacts. i’ve been insecure about my looks since i was a kid. i was a really weird kid and it didn’t help that i was “ugly” and all my friends weren’t. it kind of put me into a pattern of self-depreciation and loathing. my teeth are now fixed and i got laser hair removal done in most places, plus i no longer wear glasses. i was basically a weird kid who got a glow up.

well if we’re talking about pay not being a problem i’d say author or actor (either on stage or film, doesn’t matter) but if it’s being realistic… pharmacologist.

i used to be a gymnast.

i think one of my highs was the troupe hangout before school! one of my lows was when i got really really tired of socializing and separated myself from everyone and ghosted a lot of people.

i want to visit the philippines again! it’s my home country and i want to see my relatives.

um. i sing about it. that’s so theater kid of me but like… me belting is better to hear than me screaming.

people bringing up the fact i can’t love people romantically, yet i almost always love other people more than i love myself (and more than they love me.) someone made a joke about that before and i nearly cried in front of them in the halls. i really want to love romantically. i can’t help it that i always give myself to people who don’t want me. thankfully i’m in a good qpr with someone who cares about me now and i’m grateful for them every day. <3

for some reason, some people think i’m scary to talk to!!! i don’t bite i’m very nice and laid back!!! people tell me i look really cool which is why they were scared, and i kind of appreciate that people think i look cool… like… screaming omg thank you… but other than that i think people usually think i’m pretty chill, funny, or caring!

With Tsum 2 in progress, I decided to set Tsum Sebek as my Home Screen and level him up since I’m trying to level up all my Silbek cards for Book 7.

I have been really enjoying rediscovering how much Sebek’s tsum resembles Sebek. They’re both just so expressive!

I'm writing this the day before Dawntrail drops, so I don't have *everything* available, but I'll update this once servers go back online.

RIGHT. SO. Story time.

Back when I started XIV, I played Arcanist. I had one job. I didn't like that job, so I swapped to Lancer. I kept swapping jobs until I got to, I think Dark Knight? Which I did for a while, until I got to Shadowbringers. I leveled up jobs for the role quests, not much else happened, until I hit Endwalker and start doing Endwalker stuff. It's specifically when I saw the "A Life of Adventure IV" achievement that Things Start Happening.

In case you don't know, "A Life of Adventure IV" says

Obtain the achievements "Mastering War IV" and "Mastering Magic IV."

You get an Amaro mount. For curious sprouts, this is a flying bird(?) mount that appears in the Shadowbringers expansion. Without spoilers, it's pretty special! It doesn't have any special animations, but it's important to the story and will make you cry.

You can't get this bird elsewhere in the game.

What do you need for "Mastering War IV" and "Mastering Magic IV"?

Mastering War IV says

Achieve level 80 as a gladiator, pugilist, marauder, lancer, archer, rogue, dark knight, machinist, samurai, gunbreaker, and dancer.

You get a title. Neat.

Mastering Magic IV says

Achieve level 80 as a conjurer, thaumaturge, arcanist, astrologian, and red mage.

You get a title. Also neat.

What we need to do is get level 80 on all combat jobs that were available to play during the Shadowbringers expansion. As of Dawntrail, that is everything but Sage, Reaper, Blue Mage, Viper, and Pictomancer.

Almost. Every. Combat. Class.

So, I had a goal. I had a lot of goals, at the time, that I kept updated on the Notes app on my phone. I started taking Adderall during this time, which I needed for my general mental health, and more recently Lexapro for other pressing mental health needs. Is this too much information? Yes, BUT they helped me to stay focused, get my shite done, and tell my anxiety (which has been my "manager" for a very long time) to stop managing my life.

Reader, gentle reader, I got all those classes up to 90. I got Blue Mage up to 80.

Ambrose Ask Game

I realized this morning that I forgot how ask games work and just did Odysseus' entire thing so I am a fool but I am now a committed fool. Questions from @rypnami

1) if your mc was an animagus, what would their form be? if they are, what is their form?

I think Ambrose’s animagus form would be, ironically, an eagle. They’re fiercely loyal and will fuck you UP, along with being good caretakers of their young

2) if they could choose what animagus form they would take, would it be the same? or would they want to have a different animal form?

I think he’d choose some type of bird, maybe a raven or crow, but he wouldn’t mind an eagle too

3) does your mc have a favourite colour? why is it their favourite?

Green, because Slytherin is the first real home he ever had

4) in a modern au, would your mc use social media? what would their preferred platform be? why is if their preferred one?

Ambrose would use Tumblr unironically. He’s just fucking weird and it’s easier to avoid arguments, also it’s more anonymous than twitter or Facebook or especially Instagram. He has a twitter account but has not opened the app in two years. He’s more likely to use Facebook. I could also see him using Snapchat, the messages disappearing would make him feel less nervous

5) did you consult wand lore when choosing their wand? if so, why did you pick what you did? if not, would you ever change wand details to match your mc?

I did consult wand lore because I am an absolute nerd. Ambrose’ wand is Aspen wood and phoenix feather. I chose Aspen wood because it’s particularly suited to martial magic and duelling, which is where Ambrose excels via Ancient Magic, and it’s masters are strong minded, determined, and drawn to quests. I was really sold though with this quote from the Wizarding World website: “this is a wand for revolutionaries.” Phoenix feather is because it has a huge range for its magic and Ambrose is at least average in most forms average. Plus it’s a rare and picky wand and Ambrose has a very “chosen one” energy the rest of my mcs dont have as much

6) what is your mc’s diet? are they vegan, vegetarian, do they eat whatever? Why?

Ambrose will eat literally anything you put in front of him, because he doesnt want to be rude or ungrateful, and because he didnt grow up with the ability to reject food because he never knew when the next time he’d eat was

7) what is your mc’s backstory as to why they didn’t join hogwarts until 5th year? or did you retcon that part of the story when creating them?

Ambrose was raised by two squibs who were SUPER bitter and hated wizards, so he grew up subconsciously suppressing his magic, especially since his brother’s magic was so destructive. He was teetering on the edge of becoming an obscurial but at the least second he let out all the magic he’d been suppressing while protecting Everett from his own fire (getting burned in the process). He got his Hogwarts letter when they went out a few months later, wrote back refusing to go, then Fig showed up and his efforts combined with Everett convinced him to go

8) what house is your mc in? why are they in that house? 

Ambrose is in Slytherin because, while he has a moral code, he is completely willing to set it aside whenever he feels like he needs to. Ex, he thinks killing is bad but is absolutely willing to murder someone if he feels he has no other option. He’ll feel shitty about it afterward but he’ll do it

9) were you inspired by characters from other media when making your mc? if so, which characters? and how did they influence your mc? 

Not really? Harry Potter a little but only in the sense of the main character/chosen one energy

10) does your mc have any special abilities? (legilimens, parsletongue, metamorphagus, etc) how do they choose to use these powers? did you give them powers for fun, or does it relate to their backstory/plot?

Post game he becomes able to channel the Ancient Magic for a wider range of abilities and can become a host of it, like the avatar state, but nothing outside of ancient magic

11) what is your mc’s blood status? how does it affect their time at hogwarts? how does it affect their home life?

His parents both have wiarding blood but since they’re both squibs he is technically a half blood. It doesn’t affect his home life much, but it does affect his life at Hogwarts for a bit because of a bunch of people being bitchy about a half-blood Slytherin. But him, Sebastian, Ominis, and Imelda shut that shit down fast

12) did your mc open the repository? why or why not? 

He did not open the Repository because he felt bad 

13) if your mc opened the repository, how did absorbing all that power affect them, if it did at all?

14) what does your mc think of the keepers? do they trust them? why or why not?

Trusts them overall but does get kind of annoyed at them sometimes over their lack of urgency and refusal to tell him anything

15) how does your mc’s story continue after 5th year? how do they cope with everything that happened with ranrok, sebastian, etc?

Not to give toooo much away but Ambrose’s story in 6th year mainly has to do with trying to get Ominis away from his family, raising Everett while also attending school, and dealing with black market smugglers trying to get their hands on powerful rare artifacts, in this case the Ancient Magic wand, the Deathly Hallows, and the Founders Relics. Thankfully, it isn’t long before a young witch transfers from Beauxbatons to help, a witch with very familiar powers…..

16) did your mc learn the unforgivables? why or why not?

They did because, while they are a last resort, he likes having some “break glass in case of emergency” spells

17) did your mc turn in sebastian? why or why not?

He did not, even though he was really pissed at him at the time, because he is a gay loser

18) what is your mc’s family like? do they have siblings? do they still have parents?

His parents SUCK, and his little brother Everett might as well be Ambrose’s son. He is a little goblin with fire powers and the most precious baby in the whole world and he will burn you alive

19) does your mc have a love interest? who is it? why did your mc fall for that character, if they do have a love interest?

I like to play with my MCs like dolls and make aus where they have different love interests, but the canon love interests for Ambrose are Sebastian and Ominis

20) does your mc have a favourite spell? if so, what is it and why do they like it the most?

Depulso, it gets people the fuck away from him and it’s really easy for crowd control, not to mention to just knock someone off a cliff and now you dont have to deal with them

21) if you could change anything that the mc does in the game, what would it be? why would you change it? how would you change it? (ie; a line they say, an event of a quest, things of that nature)

I really wish we could see MC trying to cope more and get comforted. I want MC especially to have more of a reaction to literally being kidnapped by Rookwood and suddenly they’re being attack on all sides, or maybe some PTSD at the dragon fighting ring or in the fight with dragon Ranrok because of the dragon attack at the beginning. It’s hard to get invested in them when they have no reaction to anything. They are 15!! Let them be scared and sad! Also they should have absolutely ripped Sebastian a new one after his little “ignorant” comment

22) does your mc have any pets? if so, why do they have the pets they have? and for fun, what are their pets’ names?

After 5th year he gets an owl so he can keep in touch with his friends and once they get away from his parents him and Everett get a Kneazle named Sock because Everett found him rummaging in a shoe

23) when designing your mc, why did you choose the appearance you did? has it changed at all since you first made them? would you change anything now?

I just kinda fucked around and found out honestly, even his burn scar I didn’t figure out the source for until later. Ambrose was also the first MC I played with so he started as a sort of self insert while I experienced the game for the first time, then became his own character my second playthrough 

24) where is your mc from? where is their family from?

His father is from London and his mother is Greek

25) what is your mc’s favourite season? why is it their favourite?

Autumn, he likes being cozy and thinks the leaves are pretty

26) how about your mc’s favourite holiday? what makes it special to them?

Halloween, no particular reason other than that it’s in Autumn honestly, but he does like how excited Everett gets to trick or treat around their little hamlet

27) if your mc wasn’t in their current house, where would they have been sorted? why do you think they’d be there?

Hufflepuff because of his his loyalty. Outside of his resourcefulness his loyalty is a core part of himself and what fuels most of his actions. The entire plot is spawned because of Ambrose's loyalty to and trust in Fig.

28) does your mc have a favourite childhood toy? if so, what was it? do they still have it with them?

Not really, though he did like to use sticks and pretend they were wands and swords

29) what kind of music would your mc like? is there a reason?

I think he’d like whatever genre Conan Gray counts as, purely based on vibes

I love his silly freckles and that he has long hair despite being a trans guy, I think he looks very pretty :3

For the sake of my mental health and productivity, and idk I guess nostalgia for a time in my life when both of those things were better than they are now, I'm trying to get into some sort of rotation that allows me to keep up with tumblr again, plus a couple of discord servers I'm a part of, plus that demon bird app from time to time, plus writing, plus work.

I had this grand plan of dedicating certain days of the week to each social-based thing so that every day I know where to point my attention. We'll see if that works....

But for so long, my attempts to exist again on tumblr have mostly been me popping in every now and then, queue-ing absolutely everything, swearing I'm gonna come back sooner and actually reblog things, forgetting to do so, coming back after a few weeks, queue-ing absolutely everything, rinse, repeat...

But it makes me feel like I'm kind of a ghost here, like I am here but I am not actually here. When you perceive me here, I am not, it's just another queued post in a long line of queued posts.

Tonight, I had to remind myself to just... reblog something. Like, right now, just reblog it now. I used to double-reblog most things back in the day -- once right away and then once to my queue, which would regularly get close to full. So I'd share the thing now, and then it'd pop up again, weeks from now, a little surprise, a little "hey, remember this?" But I stopped doing that because the queue finally ran out and then it's been so short in fits and starts... Anyway, this is really just me rambling about how my tumblr muscles have atrophied. I want so badly to come back and be on here more often because I think it actually works more the way my brain works, or the way I'd like it to work, anyhow, but I've sort of... forgotten all the olde ways. lol Forget to post my fic here, forget to fulfill the ask box memes prompts, forget to reblog.... So... I'm trying... We'll fire this ol' girl up again somehow...

Since there could be some people that stumble to my blog: Just know that I have yet to finish it.

I migrated from the funny bird/unfunny math variable app to Tumblr and I am still learning how to use it.

I will personalize, redo my pfp, clean up, expunge bots, etc... and start to post on the blog during the weekend. The reason I had not is that my laptop was being repaired, and it felt clunky/uncomfortable to use it on my phone, plus homework.

The irony is that I just got my laptop back, but they didn't repaired anything and they charged a fee for damage that did not covered the warranty. It's still useable lol.

I just finished my technological design homework late at night and I'm typing this just before I sleep

The only thing I ever saw on the internet almost as often as I saw tumblr screenshots was Reddit stories. Plus, yeah, it was a really good resource for getting a question answered, so we saw Reddit come up a lot when we were curious or confused about something. That site of y’all’s was a helpful friend sometimes, and we appreciated that :)

Oh, and the fact that the site was very user-run and functioned on the work of dedicated volunteers is very much a spirit that I think Tumblr vibes with. Like, xkit makes our site function how we want it to, and maybe I’m just too new a user to know (joined 2018) but, as far as I can tell, that’s operated and updated by a mysterious ring of volunteer wizards or something.

But think of yourself here as your own mini-mod! Filter tags related to things you keep seeing but don’t care about, filter tags of things you find scary or gross, filter tags related to political discussions or sensitive topics that you’re not always ready to hear about, block people who post about stuff you don’t like or don’t care about, and don’t feel ashamed to unfollow someone if they’ve stopped posting about stuff you like!

My filtered tag list is pretty long compared to most, other people have blocked a lot more blogs than me, but it accomplishes approximately the same goal of making sure that my Tumblr has stuff I wanna see and is a place I want to go and look at stuff. I know it’s not gonna be filled with unnecessary discourse, or a show I don’t like, or news about something really bad and depressing. It’s gonna be fanart of shows and games I like, positive messages, stupid jokes, radical queerness and helpful advice!

I stopped using instagram after I joined an activism group and made some friends and followed them all on there, because all they would do all day every day was share posts about depressing stuff about big political topics, and how we need to be doing more about this and this and this too, and doing more and more and more and I couldn’t stand to open the app anymore. Never gonna have that problem here and it’s great.

Anyway some examples of tags I have filtered:

#abortion ban - too heavy to be hearing about all the time

And an example of the other way around: a friend of mine has ornithophobia, fear of birds. But I LOOOVE birds, so that’s kind of a problem, right? Wrong! I just have to remember to quickly add the tags #tw bird and #bird tw so I can reblog all the bird pictures I want without her having to see them, because I know she has that tag filtered!

So yeah, welcome to Tumblr, Reddit refugees! Be your own mod, don’t be shy about filtering, unfollowing, or blocking, and also don’t tell anyone to stop posting about something you find annoying, because that’s what those features are there for.
