I need to speak about a show I've just finished watching. Desperately.

*Spoilers ahead*

When the HELL is season 3 coming out? Will there be a bonus episode? I feel like my whole brain has been dragged into a pit where the only clue to escape are the words; 'figure It out'. I have read/listened to/watched as many theories as I can and god, some of them are amazing. I think my favourite would have to be that Shauna and Jeff's daughter's full name is Jacqueline (although it might be a stretch, it would still be fucking amazing). The ambiguity of 'is it something supernatural,' or 'was it us all along.' UGH! Okay so to me, the cannibal scenes aren't that shocking - it's the middle of Winter, no food, everyone is starving. It makes sense. There's logic to it.

However, it does become a bit more horrible when they have to choose someone to sacrifice. And yet I did learn, from another yellowjackets poster, that it was common and legal, for sailors who were shipwrecked to eat another person. HOWEVER! (this was in the 17/18 hundreds) and there were RULES.

But what I think we're going to see in season 3 is something more shocking then we've already witnessed. (I really hope we do). Especially since the death of Nat (rest in paradise my love) - what happens now? I kinda feel like Walter is going to be a big player in the Adult Timeline. But I think Lottie is going to become obsessed with Callie, her comment, calling her "powerful," was very ... off-putting.

Also when Nat and Travis are in bed and ... you-know-whatting- Lottie keeps coming up as a hallucination.

Nat being a leader when it comes to practicalities in the cabin, suggesting that Jackie’s body be moved to the plane. But it’s also so fascinating at a power dynamic level that she checks in with Shauna here too. It’s the fact that she knows just how much Jackie meant to Shauna on one hand, but it’s also that Shauna is someone who subtly influences the team as well. They all look to her reactions in both timelines. It was her permission that they needed to eat Jackie.

Augh, Ben saying that burying her out there will make it look like she died with the rest of them. That’s probably the cover story they give to Jackie’s parents + the authorities, which is harrowing. If so, they erase five months of Jackie’s life to conceal what happened at her death.

From what Melanie has said in interviews, so much of her arc this season is going to be about motherhood. I’m often thinking about the traumatic birth that Shauna experienced in the wilderness and how she brought that to the table with Callie, how she tried her best anyway, how Callie grew up to be a normal goddamn teenager. But now that she is older, now that she can see Shauna’s cracks and the facades and all the lies she’s told herself and others, that relationship is fractured. The Sadecki family, normal though they’ve seemed for all these years, has fundamentally been unwell from the start.

This is Melanie Lynskey’s world and we’re just living in it. Every microgesture is so, so raw.

Anyway, I reeeally hope s3 is better than this one, very excited to see more of Queen Nat, jealous Teen Shauna, adult Van, both Lotties, Callie and crossing my fingers Walter and Mustache Cop die offscreen on the way to their home planet or something.

hello yellowjackets pals i am FINALLY getting around to my 02x07 recap. i moved out of my dorm on friday and accidentally put my notebook w/ my episode notes in a storage bin rather than in my tote bag but i finally unpacked it so here we go. also these might be less detailed than usual bc it has been a few days so i may or may not be able to actually figure out what i was on about in my notes so whoops and i’ve also shared a lot of my overall thoughts already. spoilers below cut as per usual

- first just wanna share that i wrote the phrase “new emotional support corpse just dropped” upon seeing shauna clinging to the dead baby

- “i need you van” “i need you too” something that can be so important to me actually

- liked the stuff with tai talking to lottie about sleepwalking/other tai, “she’s not gone and that’s a good thing”, the connection other tai has to the wilderness, how she doesn’t want to be suppressed. good stuff especially as i am interpreting her re-emerging as being connected to van’s illness

- shauna in the meat shed crying for jackie was so fucking heartbreaking, i am kinda bummed we didn’t see ghost jackie this week but i do also like the idea of not being able to get her when she actually needs her

- and then shauna being unable to bond with/connect with/truly love callie and how it all comes back to wilderness baby and ultimately jackie like jesus fucking christ this woman should never have had a kid

- another quote from my notes: “girl get up nat is right there” this was about misty calling walter i need her to hurry the fuck up and kill him, he has some weird ulterior motive and i’m sick of him too much of this man (and men in general this season but alas)

- oh this was a bit of topic but when misty was digging in the snow for crystal the fake snow looked SO BAD my new england ass was pained by it like i’m sorry it was really distracting

- ok so i did love the scene with misty talking ben off the ledge but also i really think he should’ve died like i love our doomed king but they are just pushing off the inevitable at this point that man needs to die 

- tai taking off her wedding ring taivan kiss van doesn’t have the time to wait for her i’m so emotional about them not gonna spend much time on it here bc i have done nothing but post about them but yeah screaming crying etc

fuckit, my pitch for how I would fix the present day segments of the Yellowjackets finale.

Keep the earliest scenes mostly unchanged except instead of going straight to the hunt idea we go to the ritual with the masks and the cards BUT whoever draws the queen just drinks the phenobarbital.

Lottie didn't actually poison any of the drinks - she's trying to find out if the Wilderness As A Force is real or just her psychosis by inducing a fake near-death experience in one of the other teammates.

Misty figures this out somehow and confronts Lottie, who explains her plan. Misty is down! She suggests that drinking not!poison won't be enough and convinces Lottie to go with the hunt plan.

In true Misty fashion, she also finds a way to non-lethally drug everyone except herself and Natalie (bc that would fuck with her sobriety!) to try and speed things along.

Van is the one to volunteer to shuffle the cards. She rigs the draw such that she draws the queen card - she's going to die in two months anyway.

When Van draws the queen, she chooses to submit. This throws Lottie and Misty - they weren't expecting anyone to choose that option! Their plan is off the rails!

Van admits to Lottie that there is still a part of her that believes and she is grateful to Lottie for letting her access that again. They get as far as putting a knife to Van's throat when Tai suddenly kicks off - except it's partially Not Tai, who has now broken into Tai's waking self.

There is a scuffle. Shauna is one of the first to turn on Lottie, to which Lottie bitterly reminds her of that time Shauna beat her to a pulp. The fake hunt swiftly turns into a very real one. Shauna, Tai/Not Tai, and Van are chasing down Lottie. Meanwhile, Misty and Nat are working together to try to put a stop to this.

Callie, Jeff, and the cops arriving happens more or less as it does in the episode, except Kevyn and Walter aren't here. Idk why and frankly I don't care enough to come up with something.

Callie and Jeff get separated. Jeff gets waylaid by Lottie's cult and winds up having a chat with Lisa while Callie wanders the woods looking for Shauna.

Callie's confrontation with shitbag cop guy happens. Except she's been hearing sounds from the hunt, so she's far more panicked. They get into an altercation. He shoots her in the leg, but she manages to steal his gun and kill him - the noise of the gunshots draws Shauna, Tai/Not Tai, Lottie, Misty, and Nat to their location.

Lottie jumps on this as an excuse to stop the hunt and save her skin: the Wilderness chose. In their drugged-up state, and out of a desire to dispose of the body, Shauna, Tai/Not Tai, Van, and Lottie cook and eat the cop's body - following the same rituals from the Wilderness.

Misty and Nat, meanwhile, attempt to get Callie away from all this. Nat out of concern for her safety and Misty out of a desire to remove her from the scene of the crime as quickly as possible. Callie is in shock and losing quite a bit of blood. In her weakened state, stumbling through the darkened woods, she makes contact with the Wilderness. Episode ends.

yj finale thoughts (spoilers)

i think the 1996 storyline is the strongest and most compelling, so i don't have much to say on that front. what few complaints i do have there (treatment of poc) have already been articulated by people much smarter than me. so this is mostly gonna be a complaint post about the 2021 storyline

van is all over the place, and i find it so tiring. first she thinks the cult stuff is all bullshit. 24 hours later, she's talking tai into calling off the crisis team that lottie clearly fucking needs. like, actually, you can take responsibility for what you all did to lottie when you were girls, and get her professional help. what happened to van urging tai to get professional help before this??? i know the writers didn't originally plan for adult van but this feels really sloppy.

can the narrative please pretend to care about tai's family for longer than two seconds? jesus fuck.

i hate the entire adam martin plot, i kind of hate walter, i hate the cops, and i hate that officer pedostache didn't die.

i appreciate the tragedy of misty killing the one person she's devoted herself to the most, and i appreciate having the guts to kill off a main character instead of someone we know less like lisa... but i'm SO tired of characters killing people by accident or neglect this season. i want INTENT!!!! why is WALTER doing more actual murdering this season than the YELLOWJACKETS

i don't think natalie dying is a total asspull, but i hate that it happens alongside the antler queen reveal. i would've liked to sit with that revelation for longer (several episodes at least, into the next season) before any of the adults died.

unfulfilled wish list:

i wanted callie to kill the creepy cop and have jeff help her hide the body in the woods or something. then they come across the yellowjackets drawing cards. lottie's desire for a hunt is sated because "the wilderness chose" (brought them a fresh kill) so they roast the cop over the fire instead. then maybe someone like walter walks up on the scene. they attempt and fail to kill him, he gets away, consequences endure into season 3.

i wanted misty to kill walter so bad. by all means i should like his character but i HATE HATE HATE the trope where a character gets a straight love interest who's exactly like them, only the "opposite" sex. so i think he should die. but now i think misty would break down if she were responsible for the death of another person she cares about, so i wouldn't even be able to enjoy it 🙄

okay now i have officially watched every episode of the second season at least twice so i'm going to post all my thoughs just for me just for fun

it's been some of the most insane episodes i've ever watched. i feel like it's been years since we first saw shauna eat jackie's ear??? how did we end up with travis eating javi's fucking heart?? of course there were some ups and down. i missed (and will forever miss 😭) the mistynat dynamic. we were freed from the shauna x adam whatever, but now we have walter there for some reason. the creep cop didn't die?? but hey i'll forever be an optimist that aggressively focus on the stuff i loved over the stuff that i didn't like in a show. like!!! simone kessell as lottie matthews!!! that alone made the season 100% worth it for me. adult van too like lauren's acting was insane that is literally van palmer right there almost completely unchanged and making insane decisions that i need to know more about. i appreciate that unlike s1, s2 made me love mari and callie!!! we had peak shaunajackie homoeroticism with jackie's ghost. even ghost laura lee!!!! and evil ghost laura lee too i guess. also as someone that loves ranking everything, ranking these characters is a huge struggle for me, but with everything she went through, and her comedic moments as an adult, shauna is really using her emotional support knife to fight for her place as my #1 fav yj character. like can you believe we have a show with so many great great female characters that i don't feel the obligation to choose the lesbians just because they're lesbians? it's a big cast and the teens and adults are almost their own characters so it seems impossible to fit all of them, all their personalities, all their different arc into a season, so obviously some things didn't get much of a spolight and some parts took a lot, but i think that's fair. i really really can't wait to know what happens next, like i'm very worried about the adults, and forever grieving nat, but i'm dying to see them survive without the cabin, and find out how are they going to go insane with a spring/summer and if they are going to try to leave again. finally!! my favorite parts of the season: everything with ghost jackie and then the jackie feast. every adult lottie moment. shauna getting back her mini van, lottie vs nat hunting for food and failing ft. laura lee's ghost, sophie nelise acting, everything since the moment they start drawing card to the moment javi drowned, and the hilarious insane dynamic of the adults all together <3

Locking in my yellowjackets season finale predictions now... I haven't thought about it much but let's gis a goo.

Walter leads the police (Kevyn and pornstache) to Lottie's place and you think he's doing it to betray Misty but there's some twist that he was actually trying to help her somehow

Jeff and Callie are also there and Callie kills the pornstache cop because she knows he has enough evidence to arrest them all. her fear that she is like her mom is now a reality

Nat is chosen as the sacrifice but possibly the cop killing happens to interrupt it so she survives again and they rationalise that the wilderness chose someone else and the sacrifice is now complete

Now the cops are dead whilst investigating Shauna she knows she's fucked. Lottie is afraid that she will be institutionalised again if word gets out about what happened

The surviving yellowjackets and maybe some of the others e.g. walter, jeff, callie decide they have to go on the run and into hiding

The episode ends with them going back into the wilderness and expressing the intention to find the cabin again

I think it's possible that one of the main characters die but I feel like it would be a shame at this point just as they're all together again. Especially if it's Nat since she seems to be recovering well from her suicide attempt and addictions and it would feel cruel to kill her after all that progress
