The way some Yellowjackets fans talk about Simone and Sammy because they love Tai and Van made me remember yet again fandom spaces are still very white. This does mean that some people are just gonna never realize what they're saying is weird before they say it or they do not care.

Like some fans are really hoping that by the end of the season 2nd Tai (a lighterskinned biracial woman) sacrifices her black wife and child (who are both darkskin) for her white former lovers health. Without putting together why that is a very odd ask, whether the writers go there or not. I hope they don't cause I know Akilah not making it and that will be hard enough.

But, why would any fan want for a sacrifice?

Like a theory or could happen is one thing but people really are out here like I want x or y to be sacrificed for Van's health. Why can't they just get a bone offering and Tai uses her Saint John's Hopkins connections. It doesn't have to be so brutal, the dog sacrifice didn't even stop Tai from sleepwalking but it did what sleep-Tai wanted which was push Tai towards the other women and Van.

kinda vibrating with how i haven’t thought about sammy abara-turner in a while but how CLEARLY the knowledge of how there’s a “good tai” and a “bad tai” has messed him up. like of course he has attachment issues. of course he has trouble connecting with peers. of COURSE he has violent outbursts! 

taissa’s eating dirt outside his window and doesn’t even know that she’s doing it! he knows more about the situation than her and he can’t talk to anyone about it because who would believe him? the therapist that hot-and-cold mom thinks won’t help him? stable-mom who only sees the “good” side of tai? no way.

of course he’s like this and it’s just tragic

taissa is underwater, caught in a current, holding her wife’s hands; you are somewhere on shore, watching her drown. ‘i’m here,’ you tell her, placing your hands flat and soothing on the surface of the ocean, ‘i’m here,’ and she shakes her head, water flowing out of her mouth.

Simone still couldn’t blame Taissa.

a short idea for what happens to the turner-abara household in season 3

when simone woke up from her coma, surrounded by doctors with sammy clutching on to her hand for dear life, she didn’t blame taissa.

when simone hand delivered the divorce papers, to her wife, she didn’t blame taissa.

when her son asked her when mommy was coming home, simone still couldn’t blame taissa.

she wanted to, of course.

she wanted to scream at tai, she wanted to spit in her face and ask why she tore up their family for a woman she hasn’t seen in a decade.

but she didn’t. she just sobbed every day and set up appointments for sammy to meet with a new psychiatrist.

she just did everything possible to give her little boy the best life she possibly could.

she blamed herself, she knew it was a risk falling for taissa. she knew taissa’s heart belonged to another. she knew taissa was haunted, and she knew there was nothing either of them could do about it.

she loved her enough for the both of them. and taissa was grateful for her.

and although simone was understanding, although she was patient,

love was simply not enough to watch tai’s past haunt their son too.

The only Yellowjackets characters I will fully engage in apologism for are Sammy and Callie. Yes, Sammy is creepy; yes, Callie is bratty. They’re also both children mired in really shitty home lives! Imagine being fully aware that your mom enters trauma-induced fugue states but being way too young to realize what’s happening and why. Imagine having your mom pull some nutso bullshit right in front of you and then blame you for it. Imagine your mom “Everything is fine :)”ing her way through life even though you can SO clearly see that it’s not. Imagine watching your parents’ marriage fall apart in slow-mo, believing that both of them are cheating on each other (and being right about it in one case) and that neither of them care enough to confront the other or try to work things out. I think Sammy and Callie should both be allowed to act out a little, as a treat.
