After his brother is killed, Cash allies with a famous thief to pull of the biggest robbery in history.

It surely strives for the stylish coolness of the Ocean movies. The breezy score and the charm of Dujardin certainly helps.

But the convoluted story increasingly feels a bit much, with too many shifting loyalties, so it's a little difficult to care too much for the characters at the end. Still an entertaining watch.

Side note, while more than a decade old, it's still remarkable how much the characters smoke. Payment for that must've been a meaningful budget contribution.

It’s amazing to see such a fantastic, kickass woman in a show, being a bit older than the usal early/mid/late twenties. She’s smart, she can be brutal, she is great at managine a team of men in a very masculine environment, she has amazing instinct and she takes no shit from anyone. Laure Berthaud, a hope for women looking forward seeing slightly older characters who are not someone’s mum/gran.

Hiiii fish, you read a lot of nonfiction about the victorian era, right? What would you say are your top 5 favorite books about victorians? im looking for new books to read 😀

So technically I do, but my stuff is more for research and heavily focused on Paris and the working classes of the time, and more academic than I’d recommend for a casual read.

I do have a popular book called How to Be a Victorian, which is supposed to be pretty fun, so you could check that out! I just haven’t read it yet, haha. Another one that’s been recommended to me is Proust’s Duchess by Caroline Weber, which looks super interesting and was also a Pulitzer nominee last year!

If anyone else has recommendations, I’d love to hear them! I’d love to find more sources specific to domestic life that aren’t just focused on England.

Das hat auch etwas Gutes, dass wir hinspüren können, was unterhalb der Disziplin, jenseits der Routine, abseits der Konvention denkbar wäre. Das ist keine Aufforderung zur Pseudo-Dissidenz gegen gut begründete, nachvollziehbare, zeitlich begrenzte Einschränkungen. Aber jeden Tag an sich zu erleben, was geschieht, wenn etwas Ritualisiertes auf einmal nicht mehr gedankenlos ablaufen kann, wenn wir andere Lebensformen, andere Techniken uns aneignen müssen, das löst Verunsicherung aus, aber eröffnet auch (da ist Proust zu melancholisch) Räume.
