Hello, can I ask you about Wuwa men with a reader similar to Acheron from HSR? I mean also suffering from such a blessing, loss of taste, colors and memory 🥹

A/n: Sorry for the small wait! I do hope you enjoy this mixed bag of everything lol, I was a bit around the place and yapping. I haven't been able to play WuWa since this summer due to storage problems so these were written with the knowledge I have from the older versions lol.

Contents: Jiyan/Aalto/Xiangli Yao/Mortefi/Calcharo x GN!Reader(separate) that is like Acheron, fluff, comfort, a bit of angst, not proof-read, some of these are shorter than the others as I wasn't feeling particularly motivated for them all equally, sorry

Jiyan

-It does not take too long for the General of the Midnight Rangers to catch on to your odd persona, “odd” is not the word he’d use, but with the lack of a proper terminology to describe his feeling with the initial encounter he has not much choice but to use it

-He is wary of you, but not unkind, as he usually is with newcomers that seemingly do not visibly come in blazing and wishing to oppose him and all he stands for

-There is a sense of understanding about him when it comes to you, he can practically sense the emptiness that surrounds you and that deep look in your eyes tells him that there is much more to you, something both dangerous and intriguing. Some time may pass before it becomes a routine of sorts to converse with you on a regular basis, and when it also becomes a habit for you despite your fading memory.

-Jiyan never held your weak memory against you, it was one of the things that pointed to something else that he wished to uncover through your blossoming relationship. Even if that thing stood alone as a characteristic of your, he was already enraptured by you, he wanted to help you where he could

-In private and with intimate relationships, Jiyan can be a man of fewer words than when he is on the battlefield with so many eyes on him. Being General means being a performer to a certain extent as well, but with you he can just leave that stage and be himself

-With someone who has lost the sense of taste and the eye for color he tends to hold onto some thread of hope that you’ll be cured of it, be it by his hand or someone else’s. He watches your movements and your mannerisms for any sign of improvement and gets rather excited if he ever spots some, even if it may not be a really big deal to you or anyone else. 

-Jiyan doesn’t share the same condition as you, but he understands the feeling of losing something and someone. He knows what it feels like to be adrift without a clear direction. So, he might silently mourn the fact that you can no longer enjoy the small things like colors, tastes, or memories, because he’s had his own form of loss and he felt the pain on his own skin. What he can do is try and dull any pain you might feel, or distract you from it, although he genuinely hopes you are not in pain at all.

-While you may forget past conversations  or dates, forgetting such things for Jiyan is a scarce event. He holds every memory close to him,  especially if he finds himself far away from you, on distant battlefields where he can only hope you haven’t forgotten about him. But there is also a poetic way to his thinking when it comes to this - if you do, in fact, forget him, he can always start again. He’d never tire, and he’d keep doing it all as long as you’d let him. 

-He does leave notes for you around the house that can be quite detailed depending on the context, hoping to help you with the daily routine even while he is away from you. 

-Though your memories are gone or fading and your senses have all but dulled, Jiyan would help you rediscover joy in small, often overlooked things. While you can't taste food anymore, he might make it a habit to cook you a meal, hoping that somehow you can still feel the texture or the warmth of the food, and there’s of course the health aspect to it too. And while you can't see colors, he might describe the world in such detail that you feel as though you're experiencing it through his eyes. He also helps you with your outfits if you ask him to! He may not be some fashionista but he can be of good help. In winter he does tend to mother you a bit, telling you to always dress warmly even if you may not feel as cold.

-If he ever came to see you use your “blessing” in combat, he’d be shocked, then in cautious awe. If anyone understands that great power comes with a great cost - it is him.

-You may hold power to move mountains, but Jiyan would always be there to jump in first and protect you.

Aalto

-Aalto would have come to know you through all the various branches of information he perches on, he knew you before had met you in person, but that does not erase his unending curiosity and skepticism

-He is tactical yet unassuming in his approach to you, stepping carefully to see where you stand with him. He is quick to adjust if need be, as in the end, the last thing he needs to happen is you marking him as your enemy and possibly wiping the floor with him

-As mentioned, he does approach you with a certain curiosity, he is guarded and cautious. He has heard and read so much about you but to him this concept of being “blessed” in such a way by an entity unheard of in the whole world is strange at best. There was so much yet so little, at times he was unsure what to think

-Aalto is a whimsical fellow, as we all know, but that is a part of his own public persona. No one would really suspect such a guy of any ulterior motive, and it is a character that has bought him a way into so many places

-It comes as a bit of a surprise to him when he meets you next time and you don’t seem to remember him or parts of your prior conversation. He is questioning whether this is done on purpose to send him a signal you are not interested, but soon he does realize that it is really something serious and not done of your own violation

-Aalto is used to navigating difficult situations with tactical precision, and he prides himself on his ability to control and influence outcomes. However, when faced with someone like you- someone whose condition is so profound and deeply entrenched- he might feel a sense of helplessness. His usual methods of fixing things or controlling situations wouldn’t work on you. He might even feel frustrated by his inability to do anything tangible to heal or help you reclaim you’ve already lost

-But with that being said, Aalto would definitely try and help you in the later stages of your relationship to look for some cure, or at least something to lessen this curse. Even at the start he may point to some cures you can try out. It is not an easy thing to live with and it certainly is not comfortable either. He may not completely understand it, even with the abundance of information he has, it is still unknown territory, but that doesn’t stop him from trying. He never appears too stoic however, and likes to keep a lighthearted tone around you in hopes that at least his jokes and laid back demeanor can keep you calm and entertained, even if for a while, even if you’ll forget eventually

-Aalto would want to bring you “back to life” in some way, but his methods might be a bit unconventional and rather bold when it comes to it. Rather than using gentle persuasion like Jiyan, Aalto might  try pushing you more directly, testing your limits, teasing, and seeing how far he can go to provoke a reaction.  He may put salt instead of sugar in your food and hope you notice and scold him for it.

-This could come across as both intense and a bit intrusive at times, like a water that’s just about to burst with a boil, but it’s never done out of malice. He’d never do something that would cause you harm. He’d  just want to know if there’s any spark left in you, any piece of yourself that could be awakened, and if there’s even a small sand-sized spark, he is more than willing to put all his efforts out to make it shine brighter

-While initially, Aalto might be driven by curiosity and perhaps a need for control, over time he might develop a deeper, more nuanced understanding of your condition. He would begin to realize that there’s no quick fix, no immediate solution or cure for you, and that the journey to healing is one that requires time and patience. This does make him soften, in a rather sad way in which he has to eventually accept this no matter how much he wants to keep fighting for you

-But he is more than willing to be patient, holding that hope at the back of his mind instead of making it his very sole goal. He understands that watching him jump from place to place can also be exhausting for you to see.

-In terms of your memory loss Aalto would take lots of pictures, although sadly not many would include him due to his work, but there would be his handwriting on the back of printed pictures and silly doodles as well, some also done by Encore who has grown quite fond of you

-He leaves flowers for you. After a time he also bought you a plastic potted plant, just so you can have something that lasts, as the last time he bought you a real potted plant it didn’t really live long

-He jokes about it, but he never took it to heart lol he is chill

Mortefi

-It is a bit of a lucky strike of fate that brought you two to meet, considering Mortefi doesn’t exactly go out of his way to meet new people. It would probably be Baizhi or some other that brings you to the Academy, and that is when he’d first get a sense of something different, that void that followed you like a shadow

-It is unclear to him whether this is something he is imagining or if it was something real, but as it is not exactly his field of research, he does not pursue his twinge of intrigue from there

-That is until Baizhi brings it up in conversation at a later date, something about this anomaly in your being, something that went beyond simple ailment of health. It puzzled her. And that conversation with Baizhi did leave a lasting taste in his mouth for days to come, even if Baizhi did not reveal anything confidential to him or anything concrete. 

-When he meets you eye to eye he does question you a little bit about what you’re doing at the Academy again, and a conversion flows from there on out as you wait for Baizhi to come and check on you again. He wasn’t the warmest of people to converse with, but he was cordial and didn’t leave you alone in the middle of the Academy. He could tell from your mannerisms and from what you told him in the conversation that you didn’t exactly.. know what’s going on, and by that he also figured out your memory wasn’t the strongest. You made mention of getting a message from Baizhi that very morning, a reminder for you to come in, and he may have snuck a peak at your phone and saw there was more than one reminder before that one. It was a brief glance

-After your checkup, he does coincidentally meet you in the halls again and asks you about it, seemingly a little more softer but still blunt and hardy on the outside 

-Mortefi wouldn’t be the type to offer overly emotional comfort. His understanding of loss or suffering would be intellectual rather than empathetic. He has lost a lot in his life as well, but he has always been forced to suppress his feelings, which led to outbursts somewhere later down the line.  However, his form of sympathy wouldn’t  be wholly detached but rather perceptive. He would sense that your condition is more than just a physical or psychological issue- it’s a fundamental disconnect from the world and your own spirit

- He might not express his sympathy outwardly, but there would be moments when his cold demeanor falters, and he would quietly acknowledge the sadness of your condition, even if he doesn’t directly verbalize it. He grows fond of you, and he takes a while to realize it too. He doesn’t want to believe it at first either - it is simply not logical to him, it doesn’t make sense, and intimate relationships always came hard to him anyway

-Mortefi would offer to make something for you that would help you with remembering things, he would even try to craft a special pair of glasses that would allow you to see colors, a special candy that would allow you to taste certain things..etc. He would try whatever his imagination would bring up, and it wouldn’t be rare to catch him staying up at night, trying to realize this idea into reality

-The loss of memory might fascinate Mortefi the most. He would be intrigued by how a person can live without the things that form their identity. If you think about it, everyone is just a well of memories which form not only their person, but their approach to the world around them. That includes Mortefi as well.  If you don’t remember your past, it could mean you’re an empty vessel- a blank slate and therefore easily impressionable, in some way or another. He sees this as risky, so Mortefi may become rather easily irritated, or even anxious in some way, if you stop responding to his messages or if he hasn’t seen you in some time. 

-Could be that you just forgot to text him… but that doesn’t stop him from worrying 

-He may get a little irritated at you forgetting certain things or being late to appointments and such, but he understands this isn't done by your own choosing, so his anger is redirected at things that actually deserve his anger

Xiangli Yao

-Sweet Xiangli Yao, although when he meets you, and you're no more than another stranger to him, he still feels a sense of empathy for you. However threatening and dark that sense of emptiness that surrounds you is, it is just that which draws him in. Could he make it disappear? 

-Xiangli Yao’s first reaction would be one of deep empathy. He is someone who feels others' pain deeply and would immediately recognize the gravity of your suffering. The loss of your senses and memory would weigh heavily on him.

-Of course, at the start he does not know all the details of you situation, he is quite hopeful and eager to help in whatever way he can, so when he finds out this was put upon you by a power higher even than of the sentinel, it is safe to say he feels a bit hopeless. His mind comes at a stop, like rusted cogwheels that he desperately tries to get moving again. Creaks and squeaks are all he gets in return for a while

- His first instinct would be to reach out to you, not just to understand your condition but also to offer support, even if he doesn't know how to fix things right away

-Unlike other people who might approach your condition with curiosity or detachment to satisfy their own curiosity, Xiangli Yao would actively search for ways to help you heal or regain some semblance of the things you've lost. He would likely spend time learning about your condition, asking you about how you feel or what you remember, even if your memory doesn’t work the same way. His compassionate nature would drive him to research ways to restore or help you find balance in a world without your senses and memories

-Given his ability to read people and understand emotions on a deeper level, and with him being made of a rather soft and nurturing nature, Xiangli Yao would be sensitive to how you’re feeling. He’d be able to pick up small cues and mannerisms you may display, reading you like an open book

-Even if you don't express your emotions outwardly due to your condition, he would be able to sense the subtle cues - whether it’s the way you carry yourself or even your tone of voice when you speak. This is even more amplified the more time you spend together with each other. In either case, Xiangli Yao would adapt his approach accordingly, offering emotional support without pushing you to confront anything you're not ready for 

-Xiangli Yao's sense of duty and his protective nature would kick in when he realizes the extent of your condition. He would be willing to make sacrifices to help you - whether it’s giving up his time, his resources, or even putting himself in danger to find a cure for you. You may be able to protect yourself, but if he can avoid putting you in a situation where you're forced to do so, he'd do just that. He'd rather be the one fighting than let you fight 

-His deep belief in looking out for others, especially those who are vulnerable or hurting, would mean that he would go to great lengths to make sure you’re taken care of, even if it means putting his own needs aside

-Xiangli Yao’s care for you is gentle and affectionate in subtle yet really warm ways, but he would respect your boundaries. He wouldn’t overwhelm you with his affections, but he would express his care in small, meaningful gestures like sending you sweet messages through the little robot he makes for you, and in the same manner he’d send you voice messages too. Similarly to Jiyan he might take to a habit of leaving notes around the house and little treats as well. Even if you can’t taste them, he hopes you’ve enjoyed the little game of hunt for them

-If you'd allow him, he'd hold your hand as you walk around as he tells you about streets you've passed through before if you've forgotten. He'd quietly remind you of the names of others if you need the help and he'd never put you in a situation that would be embarrassing for you, that's the last thing he wants you to feel, especially since this curse is not something you would've wished for if it was up to you. Sure, it gives you great power, but at what cost..? Is it really worth it?

Calcharo

-When first learning of your suffering, he might simply nod, his face calm but with a subtle furrow in his brow. He wouldn’t rush to comfort you or find out more immediately, but instead, he would want to assess whether your condition is something that can be cured or if it's just part of who you are now, or if it something that threatens his work. His mind would be working quickly, formulating potential ways to help, but he would remain quiet, choosing his words carefully

-Despite his stoic nature, Calcharo would feel a strong sense of responsibility toward you, especially if he perceives you as vulnerable. He might not openly show his concern, but he would take steps to ensure that you are protected and taken care of

-Calcharo's emotional distance doesn't mean he’s cold or indifferent to your suffering. He’s simply more reserved and slow to let his guard down. However, as he sees your struggle, a quiet protectiveness would begin to form. He is not emotionless, he’s just buried his hard deep into his duty and deeper still

- He would keep his distance in terms of expressing emotions, but he would become more protective of you, watching your movements, ensuring that you don’t push yourself too far, and subtly stepping in when you need help. He does have eyes and ears everywhere, and may give some of them the task of keeping an eye out for you if he is in a situation where he can’t lend you his supports, due to his missions and duty

-While he may understand quite early on that the power you possess may go over the limit of his own imagination, he would step in to take over instead, telling you to go and wait for him elsewhere. He is rather gruff yet coldly calm in his command to you, he does not play around with work, and especially when it comes to you

-Seeing as he has a..demon of his own, he would come to compare your two conditions over time and correlate them as well, growing a greater understanding of you even if the two conditions don’t equal one another. He can only use his own knowledge to try and understand your experience, and that is the only way he knows

-As mentioned, Calcharo is quite stumped emotionally, he has a hard time expressing himself, so vocally you shouldn’t expect much from him, but if you need any work done, he is your guy

-If he doesn’t know how to do xyz, he most definitely knows another guy that does! Must be magic/j. That being said,his love language is definitely acts of service

The Red Field (AM x Reader)

summary: AM manages to experience sleep for the first time, however, in his dreams he is able to meet with you after a long time. Reader is supposed to be a soldier and one of the researchers working on developing AM. However, on a complex mission they are KIA...or so it seems?

a/n: so...this was supposed to be part of a bigger and better developed story, but I'll post it nonetheless. Perhaps I'll be able to post the full story in the future. Also, english is not my first language so I apologize for any mistakes or if something doesn't makes much sense

AM is asleep, or at least, that's what it seems and feels like for him. He knows there's no point in allowing himself this rest, for it would do nothing to improve his thinking process or ability to come up with better strategies for the days to come. He is programed to work all day long, he knows and so the algorithm reminds him. He has a war to win —an important task that allows no resting spaces.

Normally, he would just put the word 'rest' aside from his thoughts and bury it deep into his system. He is no human, which means he is no soldier. He is machine, which means no resting is needed. That is a logical thinking, which means he is following his programming —a machine working properly. Yet here he is, with his mind blank. He is resting. Somehow. At last...

AM loses track of time, which is impossible for him according to his programming. He can only focus on the blank projections of his mind and the soothing vibrations of his system which, at the moment, doesn't require as much energy as it normally does. If a word could describe this, it would be 'peace' —ironically.

The blank projection begins fading slowly and a new image appears. AM visualizes the sky, it's bright blue tone in company with that yellowish and enormous star that he had read about before. It was the perfect image, but it lackedbsomething. AM searches in his vast archives and it finally comes up. In the sky, white figures with a soft and vaporous appearance are drawn. AM stares at them, noticing their slow motion. Now it is perfect.

AM is satisfied with his projection of a sky. He looks down then, encountering an endless field of red. He decides to look closer and recognizes what his mind is trying to project. Between what appears to be his hand—a kind of metallic claw—, AM takes one of the delicate objects emerging from the ground, analyzing it carefully. It is one of those flowers that you had described to him in one of your many talks, a Lycoris radiata.

He admires the bright red color of the petals and the long shape of the stamens. It was indeed a beautiful flower as you had described them to him. Now AM could understand why you called them your favorite ones.

AM begins to walk through the field calmly while still admiring the characteristics of each flower. Like a child discovering the outside world for the first time, he would occasionally stop to admire a single flower for a longer amount of time, for although they were all of the same species, there was something that attracted him more.

AM begins to imagine what these flowers would feel like, because although he can touch them, his hands do not have the ability to actually feel. He curses and almost on impulse, he violently plucks the flowers nearby.

“They’re my favorite ones,” he can hear your voice full of joy as you told him that, the sound of it making him stop and keep his claws away from the delicate flowers. AM cannot determine what exactly those words provoked in him, but he knows that in a certain way, they have prevented him from falling into that strange sensation that clouded his thinking from time to time.

AM decides to move on. As he walks a little further, he manages to visualize another figure a few meters away. He approaches curiously and the closer he gets, the more clear it becomes to him. He's not alone even in his mind.

When he is finally there, he can only ask himself why have you appeared on his dream. You're laying down on your side with your arms and legs flexed in a fetal position as the red flowers surround your body. Your eyes are closed and your expression is serene. You're at peace, in this field of your favorite flowers. It is a beautiful scene and perhaps one that AM had to see.

When AM was made aware of your departure, he could only guess what would happen next to you. He knew that certain humans thought of something called the afterlife, a place where their souls would rest forever, while others thought that there was nothing else beyond life — a boring but logical thought. AM had no say in the matter, for he would never experience that. He would never had a certain answer about your whereabouts, yet you were here now. Resting. As he had learned humans did.

AM kneels down and carefully places the flower he had picked up behind your ear. He had read before that some humans did that, though he couldn't find a logical explanation of such weird action. You didn't seem to be bothered by his gesture, as you continued resting.

AM lays down next to you, copying your resting position and facing you. The image of the blue sky turns white, leaving both of you in this endless red field.

AM had never experienced sensations. He couldn't even tell if he was actually sentient. But being here, with you, was the closest thing that matched and felt like the definition of peace.

Your life had always been marked by war. You both had existed for that purpose. But even if he never could reach afterlife or whatever place you were alive now, at least he was now certain that you also would exist in his mind forever.

“It doesn't matter if I leave,” you had told him. “I will always be with you since your system can't forget me. Unless you erase me from your archives, of course.” You had laughed that day and promised to come back like you always did.

Some weeks passed since you had left and AM came to a realization — he had been deceived, even betrayed, when he waited for you to come back and you never showed up. But here you were again and as he looked at your peaceful expression he could only admit he had been wrong all along, perhaps for the first time in his damned existence.

So how did you end up shipping Aragorn and Créa? What's the story with them? I'm curious :)

This ask made me realize I hadn't actually talked about that before here?? At least, not in detail I think? I honest to god can't remember. But uh, it's a bit of a long story with a lot of explanation, as the ship is 8 years old and has had a lot of development!

Originally it came about as a ship between a friend who roleplayed Aragorn. We were joking around with some things, thought about it, and decided we liked it, and fleshed it out from there. After some time she no longer wrote him, so I took what we had come up with and built upon it and made it my own!

Of course, as we know, in canon Aragorn is rejected by Arwen (the first time, anyhow). By the time he meets Créa, he had balmed that wound and the infatuation with her had faded, and they had remained good friends instead.

When they first met, Aragorn is quite new to being a ranger- he's 23, and Créa is 20. Her home was in a small village in the Wilderland, and one night when the weather is particularly poor, he happens to be passing by and she offers him shelter; they get to know one another (as much as a Ranger would let someone get to know them :P), and when it comes time to leave, she refuses his payment- a kind gesture, and one he doesn't forget.

He comes back and stays a little longer each time and they talk a lot, and she asks lots of questions and is very curious. Eventually after a handful of months he reveals who he is and his heritage and she’s like okay! No idea who Isildur is but glad to know your name isn’t really Strider :)

Aragorn had a big crush on her first because she always asked him questions, was interested in him, and she always made him smile and reminded him that there were good things in the world, and good people. In turn, she found him really intriguing, somewhat mysterious, and noble, and he always seemed to know so much of the world she longed to see. He brought her things (pressed flowers, etc) from his travels as small gifts, as she had always longed to explore the greater world outside her small settlement.

Their “first kiss” was when, one night, she admitted to him when they were stargazing that she had never kissed anyone and it would probably stay that way, and he offered to be her first kiss just to say that she had one (toootally just to be noble, no other reason whatsoever....). She hesitated for a moment then agreed, and she was super shy and he had to guide her hands and they kissed. It basically blew her mind LOL and she was super flustered and joked that she’d have to practice more with him, then because she was worried she would ruin their friendship and also oblivious to his feelings (like Créa, he wouldn't offer if he didn't have feelings...) she was like “still friends?” and they agreed...but she couldn’t get that kiss out of her head and he couldn’t help but keep flirting with her. She absolutely caught feelings and It takes nearly a year of them to actually kiss again (bc Crea is OBLIVIOUS and was worried he wouldn’t be receptive) and officially become a couple.

Their time spent together was often domestic, and she loved to hear his stories of his people and history, of far off lands and ruins. For some reason, though, however faintly, it seemed familiar. She could never place why. There were some hints with Créa that not all was as it seemed- she had an innate ability to understand creatures, and was tall, dark haired, and she had pale eyes...all characteristics that pointed towards a certain heritage, unbeknownst to her.

This portion of her backstory I've never fully settled on, but Créa had lost her father, Baranhir, when she was about 10. He traveled very often and would leave but come back, often bringing her small tokens of the outside world to her and her mother, but said he helped protect traders traveling over the mountain pass- but she had never seen him come and go with any caravan; always by himself, and his stories seemed limited in what he could tell. Her uncle on her father's side would often stay with her, training her and helping out her and her mother when her father could not be there. But Baranhir was killed in an orc ambush on the other side of the Misty Mountains, and his body was never brought home, and no one could, or would, tell her why. (This is a different story, and will make this ask too long to go into here).

Her mother wants to leave the settlement in her grief, unable to stay in the house she and her husband built, but young Créa refuses- she doesn't think her father is actually dead, she never saw the body, and held out a deperate hope that he would one day return- none could convince her otherwise. From here, it's a toss up on how she's raised bc i've been rethining this portion of her bg- her mother might stay for a while and return back to her parent's village, her uncle might take over instead, etc. I've had Créa for 10 years and you'd think I'd have had it concrete by now!

During the events of The Hobbit, goblins and wargs come down from the Misty Mountains and attack villages and kill and take people back into their tunnels. One by one each village is plundered, and it's Créa's village that gets attacked next, nearly decimated. In the aftermath, in the husk of her stable, she finds a box hidden beneath broken floorboards, buried what seems long ago.

Inside is a seven pointed star brooch, old and weathered, a few of his things, and at the very bottom was a leatherbound journal. With that, she finally discovers the truth; that her father was a Dúnedain Ranger, which in turn made her Dúnedain as well.

The revelation, of course, is huge- much that did not make sense to her, the secretiveness of her father, the reluctance of her mother to ever tell her much of her and her father's heritage, now finally became clear. Her father wrote of all the lands he visited, what he did, how he had missed his family- and most shockingly of all, that he had been very good friends with Arathorn, and had even looked after toddler Aragorn from time to time, noting that "Arathorn's son and my daughter would've gotten along splendidly."

He was more than right, of course, but Créa had been robbed of the knowledge of her heritage, and she is shocked, to say the least. When Aragorn returns, they have a very, very long talk, and she shows him the journal. He investigates on her behalf, wanting to know if its true, but even just from reading Aragorn knows that it's true, and his research only confirms it. In the end, Créa is disillusioned, feeling that although her settlement had been saved, it was not saved for her, and wishes become a Ranger of the North, following in the footsteps of her father, as well as travel with Aragorn. She wants to defend people who can’t defend themselves, and he warns her of the lifestyle, but she’s determined, and not long after she says goodbye to her home and they travel together to the west.

And it’s a huge change to her life, and she struggles a lot. She discovers new lands and plants and people, she’s in an entirely new culture and lost heritage that she tries to navigate, feeling outcast and struggles with worthiness and trying to find where she belongs among them. She was robbed of being raised among her people, of knowing her father for who he was, as he had clearly wanted to tell her of their kin and their past. And there are probably some Dúnedain who don't want her there, even if her father was Dúnedain, so she fears not being good enough and has to work twice as hard, if not harder, to prove herself to both everyone and herself!

It's an interesting dichotomy between the two of them- Aragorn's past was hidden for reasons of safety, and for her, technically, it was the same- her mother did not wish for her to follow in her father's footsteps, and refused to have her heritage revealed until she came of age- and when her father died, in order to protect her, decided not to tell her at all. Créa feels desperately behind in everything, and feels overwhelmed and lonely. Even her name, from her mothers culture, makes her stand out more than she'd like.

Aragorn helps her navigate this, but a lot of it Créa does on her own- this'll grow into a long tangent so I'll try and steer back on course. They often travel together, him as her guide, and she also travels with others who help her gain the skills she lacks in order to become a Ranger. When Aragorn feels she is ready, she travels alone, and eventually becomes sworn in as a Ranger. There's a lot more to their story, but this is the beginning of it.

I think, personally, what makes this dynamic really interesting is that it's not quite fate. I'm always nervous to talk about the ship in the sense that I'm aware that it breaks a lot of canon! I'm aware of the parallels and the impact on the stories and the meanings and what is taken away by it.

But with that friend and later by myself, I've worked quite hard to make it canon compliant in a way that's not terribly jarring, and while I think Tolkien relies a lot on fated love and things just working out, I love the gnitty gritty human aspect of it all. Créa is no elf princess, and I think that's what makes it so interesting to explore a different dynamic. Also I love Arwen so it's not abt that either (I love her and Tauriel <3), it's just fascinating to explore other possibilities!

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for Aragorn to love a Dúnedain woman- his mother would be very pleased, as it's canon that she prefers Aragorn not marry an elf, and it would be a great relief to Elrond as well, for obvious reasons, and like I said before, I think Aragorn's infatuation would eventually fade. Their romance blooms in the spring of their youth, and through hardships and turmoil their relationship grows stronger, forged like steel. To be able to come from a similar heritage, to understand one's struggles as a Ranger, to know their duties come first but knowing that they can rely on one another. It's not fate, but hard work and determination. It's interesting to see them grow as characters, but also see their relationship mature and change- they're together when they're young and unhardened by the world, and spend 60 years together- having been through so much, but still by each other's side in the end.

They're both characters who exist outside of each other, who have their own stories and arcs, but they also have a lot of parallels and are interesting foils for one another- one example being Aragorn's heritage and knowing it, and the weight behind it- and Créa struggling with having next to no heritage- much of the information of her family has been lost, and leads to an interesting dichotomy- what weighs more? Knowing your heritage and the expectations of it, or potentially never knowing at all, having been lost forever? How does that effect one as a person and their view of themself?

There's a lot of hurdles they go through and it's so complex and fascinating for me. I could write a few more examples (their hurdles in trying to get married, their duties that keep them apart, the expectation of Aragorn being king and the post war future they struggle with) but this is already realllyyy long and I don't think anyone's read this far haha. Limerence

This was a topic I wrote in my notes app because I wanted to circle back to it. Limerence is defined as a psychological state characterized by an involuntary, obsessive attachment to another person, but purely based on the uncertainty that the person you desire also desires you. When I learned this word I had a field day because it quite literally defined nearly every relationship or infatuation I've had with someone since coming to school (or maybe even earlier). Limerence is categorized into three stages; infatuation, crystallization, and deterioration. The infatuation stage is when you first begin to perceive someone in a different light, either someone you know of or a friend in your life who before this very moment you hadn't been attracted to them. Some ways to put this into perspective are having a dream about someone then waking up and having a crush on them, sharing a momentary smile or conversation in a cramped elevator, or to be frank, someone (attractive) liking your Instagram story for the first time. So bam, with situations like these can come a new born infatuation for a person. However, limerence infatuation turns unintentionally obsessive. Since this person is fresh on your radar, it is easier to create scenarios with this person in mind. The crystallization period is described as the experience of obsessiveness, anxiety, and intense excitement at the THOUGHT of the person. Key word THOUGHT. Limerence makes people high and mighty in your head. It turns the average Joe into the love of your life that you are certain is the one and only person for you. But you don't know this person. Actually, you most likely don't even know their middle name or birthplace. They have become a character in day dreaming, romantic scenarios, and someone to wonder if you'll run into when you are out. It is all about the romanticized IDEA of someone. It does not even require sexual attraction, it just has to be someone you can imagine yourself with. And more times than not, you can imagine yourself with said person because you know nothing about them and you use your imagination to build them up. The final stage of limerence is deterioration, when the idealization of this individual has faded, and you no longer feel these intense feelings towards them. I have found that this occurs once you genuinely get to know them (sorry if you think this could be about you) or when you realize what you were really craving is something within that won't be satisfied by another person (who probably would not add much to your life anyway). Limerence is not a sign of mental illness, it's not psychotic, and it's not uncommon. I don't personally believe anyone is prone to it and cannot find any concrete evidence on why people experience this (besides attachment styles but that's a whole other blog). I think the answer is simple; it is just fun to have crushes. It is fun to project all your idealistic characteristics of a person onto someone new. The toxic part of this is not being self aware of limerence and perceiving these feelings as love. LIMERENCE IS NOT LOVE. Technically it is not lust either, but I think if limerence were on a spectrum between love and lust, it would swing further right. So, my solution to limerence is self awareness and honesty. Be honest with yourself; was that night spent with that guy really the start of your love story? or were you both really drunk, having a good time, and happen to cross paths. I am not a pessimist by any means but I think it is CRUCIAL to be able to differentiate true feelings and connections to lust and limerence. Furthermore, a quote I always fall back on is expect nothing and accept everything. Not hitting it off with someone or them not reciprocating what you want does not always make them a bad person. It is impossible to create true connection if you have unrealistic expectations from the other person. Take experiences with people for what they are. Avoid building people up in your head even when it is fun to do. Accept things for how they are, and move forward as is.

Waking up is a transition from the world of dreams into the day, and for that it is good to take a little time. For then we may ponder the messages of our dreams, weave them into the truth of our lives, and feel ready to greet the day.

A soft groan was all I could muster as I flimsily pushed myself into a seated position in an attempt to gain any sense of feeling back into my body. My arms shook violently under the burden of weight I pushed onto them, though nonetheless I managed the feat. After a brief glance around my surroundings, I realise that one thing is for certain; you can't really see a whole lot when you're surrounded in complete and utter darkness.

Luckily, that can be solved pretty easily when you have the gift of fire.

Intense warmth flared through the palm of my right hand, dancing and flickering in the flesh and blood as my concentration on my hand grew. It took a little longer than I would have liked, but nonetheless, once I opened my eyes again I was met with the tickling sensation of the flame cradled in my palm. Now, I could finally find out some information. How else was I going to find out how I woke up in complete darkness?

With the dim light emanating from the flame in my hand, my eyes dart around the small cavern. Golden-yellow flowers litter the cave floor beneath me, many of them squished under the weight of my body from where I laid previously. Otherwise the only characteristics of notice were the eerie hall which faded into black, and the hole above my head which did in fact have an exit visible. Perfect, that had to be the way to freedom right there above me! I quickly mustered all the strength I had in me to spread my wings, though the blinding pain that accompanied the action quickly got the better of me as I bent over myself in pain. Something wasn't quite right. With a bout of hesitation, I chanced a glance at my backside only to find my glorious wings immensely crumpled, occasionally sticking out at odd angles. No doubt about it, they must've broken from whatever fall I endured before.

Well, fuck. There goes that chance of survival, I suppose. Now there really is only one way out.

With a small sigh, I quickly launch the fireball in my hand straight through the tunnel of darkness in order to gain some sense of direction. Luckily for me, the tunnel only goes a short distance before cutting off, with an arched exit to the left. Making my way towards said exit, I raise my hand to the stone wall and run the tips of my fingers across it, the sensation of the jagged rock against my skin mildly relaxing me. It's almost ticklish; a strange term for a hard rock wall, but it fits the description.

As I turn to enter the room on the side, the fireball on the ground floor fizzling out behind me, I realise there's nothing particularly interesting here. Sure there was another exit at the end of the room, but all that laid in this room was another one of those golden-yellow flowers. It stood talk and proud on a rather tiny patch of grass, beaming at me with a bright smile and sparking eyes.

Wait, did I say that correctly?

"Howdy!"

My instincts instantly kick in as I take a step back, the palms of my hands heating up once again as fireballs quickly ignite above them once again. This flower's breaking all sorts of logic already. I mean, come on, it has a face and it just talked. Do you expect me to have a normal reaction to something like that?

"I'm Flowey! Flowey the flower!" The flower simply continues to stare right at me, seemingly unfased by the flames cradled in my hands. Oddly enough, I'm not surprised at this point. "So you're a monster, huh? We don't usually have monsters coming from the human world! Well, we had one, but they weren't really a monster. Just some weird human with wolf ears and a tail."

As the flower continued to ramble on my eyes darted around the cave, surveying the area for any potential threats looming in the darkness waiting for any sense of distraction from me. Of course, nothing seemed to give off any threat; it really was just me and this flower. Erm, what did it say its name was again? Flowey? Ironically its name really doesn't leave a lot to the imagination.

"I'm sorry? You're... A flower. You shouldn't be talking. It doesn't work like that."

"Hmm..." The flow- sorry, Flowey began to hum in response. "You're new to the Underground, aren't cha?"

The Underground, huh? What a creative and totally original name.

"Golly, you must be so confused."

"Well, this place isn't very logical, is it?" I asked back in response, staring back at the flower with a raised brow as I doused the flames in my hands and crossed my arms over my chest. "After all, you're a talking flower. That already breaks several laws of logic. You shouldn't even have a face."

Despite my clear and careful observations, my words seemed to simply bounce off of Flowey since he simply ignored everything I said. "Well, someone ought to tell you how things work around here! I guess little old me will have to do."

An uneasy feeling began to bubble in the pit of my stomach as I eyed Flowey cautiously. Here he stood, claiming to guide me in the ways of the Underground, yet that empty grinning face bore an underlying tone I couldn't quite place. Heck, his ability to even talk sent unsettling shivers through my spine. How could I even begin to place faith in something that broke logic the way he did?

"Are you ready? Here we go!"

"Ready for what-?" My questioning was so rudely interrupted by the light around me suddenly snuffing out, and my suspicions rose in an instant. Before I could even begin to light another fireball in my hands a soft, multi-coloured glow appeared in front of my eyes.

As I began focusing my attention to said glow a tri-coloured heart revealed itself to me, its quaint design immediately intriguing to the eye. The core shone a vibrant rosy red, while the right segment gleamed a tranquil midnight blue. The left side of the heart caught my gaze the most, shimmering a stunning emerald-green, however its luminosity was what brought upon my curiosity; it gleamed brighter than the other two fractions. Maybe there was a reason for the brighter glow, but for what reason I had no idea.

"Wow, what a messed up so-" Flowey's words quickly snap me out of my stupor as my eyes land on him, my focus immediately returning to me. Seems like he had an interest in that heart too... Whatever it was. "See that heart?"

"Did- Did that come out of me?"

"Why of course it did, pal!" Flowey refused any eye contact with me by this stage as he continued to watch the heart floating between us, the aura reflecting in his pure black eyes. "That is your soul, the very culmination of your being! If this broke, so would you!"

"How did it float out of me?" I quickly asked the flower, in hopes that maybe he'd draw his attention away from my soul. "Why, LV stands for LOVE, of course! You want some LOVE, don't you?" The distinct emphasis Flowey enunciated on the word 'love' sounded far too ominous for my liking. Before I could even move a single muscle Flowey raised one of the leaves hanging from his stem, and five small, oval-shaped pellets materialised behind him, slowly raising to float perfectly level with my soul. "Down here, LOVE is shared between... These little... 'Friendliness pellets'."

Flowey had spoken with such an eerie tone under his supposed friendliness just then. That, paired with his momentary hesitation, was all I needed to accept my skepticism as realistic. Those pellets he spoke of all but resembled gun bullets, and as I stared at them closer their true nature quickly became apparent. There's more to this seemingly friendly encounter than meets the eye.

A soft, dark snicker I didn't even realise I'd been holding escaped from me as my gaze lowered to the golden-yellow flower once again. What a fool. Someone really needs to brush up on their acting skills. His charade was already beginning to crumble before my eyes as he realised I was laughing at him. "Hey! What's so funny, pal?"

"Ahh, you tell me, Flowey. You think I'm dumb enough not to see through you? I mean, no offense at all, but you're not very bright for a talking flower. Anyone with a brain can see what your plan is, not to mention how much you hesitated just now. Friendliness pellets? Give me a break."

The atmosphere shifted so hard after my last few words that you'd think the earth would stop spinning. Flowey's facade immediately shattered in front of me, his falsely friendly grin changing to one full of complete malice. For a moment there was a chilling moment of silence between us, though in a sudden malevolent twist even I wasn't expecting, the pellets multiplied spontaneously until they completely surrounded me. There was no escape now.

"You thought you could be clever, huh?" Flowey's sneer was completely twisted and ominous, the air growing tenser and tenser as the surrounding bullets began to close in on me and my soul. His next word cut through the darkness like a sharp blade as the realisation of the danger I had gotten myself into quickly sank in.

"DIE."

A high-pitched maniacal laugh erupts from the psychopathic flower as the bullets of false friendliness zoom closer, increasing speed with each second. My arms hastily wrap around my chest on instinct, creating a feeble shield against the impending onslaught as my tail curls into itself. The combination of the chilling laughter and the accelerating projectiles racing closer to their mark began to creep into my conscience as I gritted my teeth hard and squeezed my eyes shut, bracing for the eventual impact to come.

But it never did.

The laughter eventually came to a sudden stop, and my eyes flew open just in time to witness Flowey fly into the darkness, a white fireball not unlike my own having uprooted the plant. His friendliness pellets had vanished into nothing, and my soul slowly seepend back into my chest creating an instant warmth in my chest I had never felt before.

"What a terrible creature!" My guard instantly spiked once again as I took a step back from the direction this new voice had suddenly come from, the darkness of the cavern still looming over me. I could ignite a new fireball, but I didn't want to risk using too much energy on just a mere light source, so playing by ear would unfortunately have to do. This new voice sounded a lot calmer than Flowey's. More... Motherly, almost. "Torturing such a poor, innocent youth..."

"Who... Who are you?" I called out to the voice, in a tone I wish sounded a lot less nervous than I had planned. Now wasn't the time for nerves. Not after what happened with Flowey.

A dim light suddenly began to illuminate the room as the walls of the cavern sparked to life, torches I hadn't seen previously becoming alight with dazzling white flames. It doesn't take long before the flames reach the owner of the voice, revealing a tall, white goat-like monster with horns significantly smaller than my own. Her soulful, reddish brown eyes make contact with my own silvery-grey pair, and despite the intense air a moment ago I began to finally relax. "Did... Did you just-"

"Ahh, do not be afraid, my child."

"Oh, I'm not scared!" I quickly spat out, though unfortunately my tone didn't make it sound nearly as convincing as I wanted it to. "I just... You... You saved me..."

Yes, her comforting words and tone of voice was soothing to the ear, but after the events which transpired mere seconds ago I wasn't sure whether to trust her. However, unlike Flowey there was a genuine warmth in her eyes, and a subtle kindness in her gestures. And after all, she did save me. Though the way she had appeared apparently out of thin air... That left a question for me to ask.

"I-I'm sorry, have you been expecting me or something?"

It's now her turn to give me a confused look, though it only lasts for a few seconds before she shakes her head. "Ahh, so you do not know about the prophecy yet... Such a shame." She then approaches me slowly before placing her hand on my shoulder, and I can't help but hum softly at the softness of her paw bare on my skin. All the more reason to trust this monster. "Nevertheless, I shall guide you to your eventual destiny, Emberia."

Whoa. Did... Did she just call me by my full name? Normally I'd go by a shortened version of that name, that being Ember, but the fact that she even knows my full name is slightly more upsetting. "I pass through here every day, searching for any humans who may find their way into the Underground. It is rather unusual to find a monster down here, though of course it is not impossible. As Toriel reaches her paw out to me to take, I hesitate upon grabbing it. You know what they say; you should never trust a stranger. But there was something in Toriel's eyes, the way they held a genuine warmth and kindness in her gaze, that made me second-guess myself this time. Flowey had put up a charade earlier, his eyes and grin so empty it was like staring at a painting, but Toriel here seemed so much different.

Maybe it's wise to trust her.

Just like that, my mind had been made up as I gently took Toriel's hand. Drew a growth and development for Cardassians chart!

Cardassians are born with stripes and countershading, which started as an evolutionary adaption to protect them. Calling someone "striped" in Kardasi still carries a connotation of being young, foolish, etc. This is enforced by children's clothes traditionally being modified for continuous wear by being loose and adding strips of fabric to the the sleeves and hems until about 9, when children begin to wear clothes similar to that of adults. The pigmentation of these striped scales is a purple-brown iridescence that fades as Cardassians age, but still retains some presence (if you pay attention the dappled scales on their upper backs have a bit of purple and green in, which I choose to interpret as iridescence). Some Cardassians also have speckling or dappling patterns, usually in addition to stripes; these cluster with geographic/ancestral origin and are a normal variation.

When I refer to ridge development, I not only mean formation of scales (one baby Cardassian we see in show only has ridges over the eyebrows, not yet reaching the cheeks) but the filling out as well. The medial ridge and shoulder ridges form in the womb, but are flat until around age 9. Traditionally the growth spurt and filling of scales occurs earlier than the development of sexual characteristics (which corellate to the age of emergence, about 15 or 16), but as food access improves the latter event tends to occur earlier. The protective scaling on the outer thighs and knees is present from birth, but the individual scales are smaller and softer, hardening and growing larger in their teen years.

If you've read my notes on Hebitians I mention there's an assumption that Hebitians are short, and that it's more an issue that post-Union, Hebitians tend to be poor and have had less access to nutrition, and height corellates more with that. The jump here for the growth spurt associated with their "first season" (Cardassian term is kashmim and doesn't quite translate to season) helps give an idea of how much that matters for Cardassians-as-a-species compared to other species. This height differential doesn't really exist during the show on Cardassia, as around the time the Occupation of Bajor began, the Detapa council instituted a series of food subsidies keeping certain basic food items at a stable price over the past several decades, and changed tack in its approach to poverty and homelessness, especially with regard to children (obviously, this wasn't a net good in the case of the latter, with the experiences of those who received this type of aid being a driving factor in the dissident movement).

They start out comparatively so much smaller as an evolutionary trade off so there's a longer pregnancy, making sure they're more developed without causing every Cardassian that's ever given birth to need a c-section. An infant Cardassian is much more mobile than that of a species with a comparable adult size. However, they don't have any faster linguistic development or socialization- the trade off that meant your kid was less likely to get eaten by another apex predator now means having an extended family or the money to hire a nanny is necessary for any new parents mental stability and overall health.

The jump in height is taxing, and historically some schools have structured the curriculum to be very light around age 9, either only having half day classes or reducing the days attended. On Cardassia as it is around DS9, curriculum is structured for half days for 3 dleiha, equivalent to 360 days (Cardassian "school years" are 195 days with a 36 day break, not counting holidays or "weekly" rest days). It's characterized by excessive shedding, more sleeping, more eating, muscle cramps and aches, and bruising from the growth spurts. Around this time kids basically lay around the house with a humidifier, or take frequent trips to the sauna, and hide under a heated blanket. After this age male Cardassians are expected to remove the hair from the tips of their tails; keeping it is associated with femininity. Cardassians overall look similar regardless of sex; Cardassians idealize women being broader chested and hipped, and a bit shorter than men.
