the more I think about the wildfire in GFA the more bonkers it seems to me, because when I first watched it I just figured it was the perfect narrative choice, it embodied so much theme and development in the most visceral way, it just feels like such a right thing to happen - the way it forces their displacement and then to witness the aftermath of the destruction of the place they called home
only to discover that it was completely unintentional and that a real wildfire just destroyed the set and they decided to work with that?????
reality affects fiction affects reality etc.

Unintentional Love Story Ep 9 & 10
Final episodes of ULS, the drama was wonderful ✨ I really liked that WonYoung finally discovered his worth, matured, stood up to his superior at work and to TaeJoon, destroyed TaeJoon’s ex in the public toilet and kept calm in every stressful situation. He was very cool in the last ep. I really admire the actor playing TaeJoon, who phenomenally played someone in love. His stares, pining, longing, caring, indulgence with WonYoung, as well as being completely whipped and being fine with it - I absolutely love him and love that part of this show. I really enjoyed the scenes where TaeJoon was very protective of WonYoung, not hesitating to use violence. Also when he said WonYoung could use his money and position, use him. That was so cool. The other couple took like, two steps in their relationship (while the main pair went through their relationship like a bullet train), they literally repeated the same two sentences over and over, so I barely noticed their scenes together, (although I see they have a large fandom on tumblr). But I really noticed and paid attention to DongHee, who next to TaeJoon, was my favorite character. ✨
Unfortunately, I can't give this series a high rating, even though after the first few episodes I expected it would be at least 9/10 :) Perhaps this was the theme of the series, but imo the characters often behaved inappropriately for their age, even childish. There were scenes more suited to high school romance than to an adult series. I was also sort of disappointed by their panic in the elevator, so that no one would see that they were holding hands. Somehow I immediately remembered Tin, who had no problem with it, maybe that’s why it bothered me 😁 But I would accept/ignore it anyway, it’s nbd...(also they did mature and acted their age in the last episode), if it wasn't for those lame kisses. Actors from Semantic Error, Oh! Boarding House, Our Dating Sim and even this week's The Eighth Sense ep managed to deliver affection and even passion in their kisses, so there really are no more excuses for the KBL actors. If other actors from short, sometimes comedy series can comfortably kiss a person of the same sex, then in the seemingly aspiring to something better, long for KBL series, I think they should try even more. Even the hugs are awkward, they look as if striking a pose, they always have their heads weirdly apart lol
tl:dr: I really like this series, it would be perfect for me, even 10/10, if the characters and actors were a bit more adult about what they do 😃 Other than that, it's good, TaeJoon and DonHee are the best, I recommend it! 💖

Prompt: write a movie concept around a Taskmaster-like show where contestant are assigned absurd or outright impossible, but apparently humorously harmless tasks, but the show is in fact an operation by some Intelligence Agency to come up with new and creative ways to perform heists, intelligence gathering, social hacks and even darker purposes.
Title: The Big Challenge
Tagline: They came to win. They had no idea what they were getting into.
Logline: Welcome to "The Big Challenge," a wildly popular reality show where clueless contestants compete in seemingly silly tasks. Little do they know, their "challenges" are actually elaborate training exercises for a covert government agency, testing unconventional methods for espionage, extraction, and even assassination (with a healthy dose of dark humor).
Characters:
Rex "The Fox" Fowler: The charming but ruthless host of "The Big Challenge," a former black ops agent who enjoys manipulating contestants for his higher-ups.
Dr. Amelia "The Owl" Evans: A brilliant but socially awkward psychologist who designs the show's challenges, analyzing contestant behavior to identify potential recruits for covert operations.
The Contestants: A diverse cast of quirky characters, each with a unique skill set unknowingly being evaluated for potential agency use.
Agent Stone: A by-the-book government agent who becomes increasingly wary of the show's true purpose and the potential danger it poses to the contestants.
Plot:
"The Big Challenge" is a reality show that has taken the world by storm. Contestants compete in a series of ridiculous tasks, from assembling IKEA furniture blindfolded to navigating a grocery store using only interpretive dance. The audience finds it hilarious, but behind the scenes, the show is a front for a covert government agency – "The Department of Unorthodox Solutions" (D.U.S.).
Rex "The Fox" Fowler, the show's charismatic host, is a seasoned ex-agent tasked with manipulating the contestants through the challenges. He observes their resourcefulness, creativity, and ability to cope under pressure. Dr. Amelia "The Owl" Evans, a brilliant but socially awkward psychologist, designs the seemingly silly tasks, meticulously analyzing contestant behavior to identify potential recruits for different branches of D.U.S.
Among the contestants are:
Brad "The MacGyver" Miller: A resourceful handyman who can fix anything with duct tape and a positive attitude.
Penelope "The Chameleon" Chang: A master of social engineering, able to blend into any crowd and manipulate people with charm.
Kevin "The Human Calculator" Sharma: A mathematical genius who can solve complex problems in seconds (useful for code-cracking missions).
As the competition progresses, the challenges become more elaborate and the true purpose of the show starts to unravel. Agent Stone, a by-the-book agent assigned to monitor "The Big Challenge," starts noticing inconsistencies and becomes suspicious of D.U.S.'s motives. He discovers that some of the tasks tested potentially lethal skills (think building an elaborate disguise kit or creating a non-lethal poison out of household ingredients).
The climax involves a final challenge that pushes the contestants to their limits, a test designed to identify an agent capable of performing a high-stakes assassination (with a trick ending, of course, where the target is a cake disguised as a person). It also brings Agent Stone and Dr. Evans to a head, forcing them to confront the ethical implications of the show.
Humor:
The absurdity of the contestants' attempts to complete the seemingly impossible tasks.
The dark humor derived from the true purpose behind the challenges and the potential danger they pose.
Rex's sardonic commentary and Dr. Evans' awkward social interactions.
The contestants' obliviousness to the bigger picture, creating moments of unintentional comedy.
Themes:
The blurred line between entertainment and manipulation.
The value of unconventional skills and thinking outside the box.
The ethical implications of using reality TV for covert purposes.
Additionally:
The film utilizes mockumentary elements, with interviews from past contestants (who remain blissfully unaware of the truth), D.U.S. officials justifying their methods, and footage from surveillance cameras capturing the hilarious (and sometimes near-disastrous) attempts at the tasks.

The Last Cuentista
Tumblr media
Title: The Last Cuentista
Author: Donna Barba Higuera
Genre: Science Fiction
Audience: Ages 9-12
Summary:
The Earth is ending, the secret colonizing spaceships are ready to take a chosen few to a new Earth hundreds of years away, and there is a fringe group called the Collective glorifying homogeneity as the solution to world peace. Petra, with an ocular disorder that could have prevented her from joining her family on the spaceships, loves storytelling and secretly plans to keep her grandmother’s tradition of storytelling alive on the new colony, but disaster strikes again and again, and the future she wakes up to is not the one that had been planned. The fringe group is now the only group and has destroyed all memory of Earth and individual thought in the name of unity, her family is gone, and she is not supposed to have her memories. Petra must discover what has happened to her family, keep her secrets, and find a way to escape the awful future the Collective has in store for her.
Why I chose this book:
I primarily chose this book because it is the 2022 Newberry Award Winner. Seeing a book with Spanish in the title receive such a high honor is exciting; I don’t remember ever reading a book that integrated Spanish without it coming from a token character or tertiary character. To know that children and teens get to have amazing and well written stories that feature foreign languages and diverse characters as a normal aspect of reading is a gift.
Evaluation:
Aspect 1: The Characters
The protagonist is a 13 year old girl with an eye defect and a love for stories over the highly valued STEM fields that are necessary for the colony’s survival. She breathes life in each of her cuentos, letting the tales transform to the situation and to her audience. She never compromises on her belief that stories will always have a place in humanity, and so she becomes the last steward of Old Earth, carrying the memories and the stories that made up humanity.
Aspect 2: Theme
One of the novel’s main themes is the peril of forced assimilation, and it mirrors the forced assimilation that so many have experienced in America’s history. The author uses a glitch in the stasis machine that allows Petra to retain her memories, thereby allowing her to escape the subjugation that all the children before her have had no choice but to unknowingly succumb to. The only difference between her and the rest of the children is her sight, which is labeled a genetic defect, but may possibly be the reason she still has free will, which adds to theme that differences are to be celebrated and not pulverized.
Aspect 3: Setting
The majority of the setting is on the ship that is taking the colonists to the new planet. However, the ship goes through a complete tranformation, or transmogrification, from when Petra first boards and tours the ship to when Petra wakes up and has to rediscover the ship again. The starkest difference is the presence and the vitality of life in the past to the void that the ship became. This is easily seen in contrasting the middle of the ship. Where once had been a beautiful park filled with nature and the sapling of the largest tree in the world, a symbol for the continuance of life, there was now nothing but white walls, floors, and ceilings. I believe white was chosen not as a superior color but because it was considered empty of color, a blank canvas no one can write on lest they defy the sameness of mind within the Collective. Not even specks were allowed on the walls, with someone within the group always cleaning it. Even a speck, a minute difference, is a threat (an unintentional reference to Horton Hears a Who?). The next place of contrast is the room where they stored the pods for the adults. The image of the pods of people in stasis, waiting for their time to do their duties and start a new life is in contrast to what Petra finds: rows and rows of empty pods that only display messages of the person’s name and their grim fate.

Hey ya'll ever have a previous special interest come back in full force for no damn reason, for something that went and ended ages ago? And there's no new material? And even though you loved the original material when it came out, when you look back you can see just...horrendous amounts of bad characterization and misogyny and bad art design and other stuff, but somehow none of that is making the special interest obsession die down even the slightest, teensiest bit? And like, you don't even know what to do with this sudden all-consuming interest?
Yeah, well, apparently I'm back on Danny Phantom for some reason. brb, gotta watch a bunch of episodes and yell at Butch Hartman
#it's just such a good concept#the protagonist is debatably dead and can become an actual ghost#he has neglectful parents and is bullied or ignored at school#the parallels between feeling dead and being dead! between feeling invisible and then gaining power through actually becoming invisible!#not to mention the way the show has Danny very slowly discovering and learning how to handle his powers while also trying to hide them#and doing this all without having any idea of what's happening to his body and how he should feel about it#you cannot get a CLEARER metaphor for going through puberty as a queer kid!#and that's not even touching all the unintentional trans coding that was accidentally written in!#Danny has more of a chest when he's wearing a skintight suit! He favors baggy clothes! He keeps accidentally going into the girls bathroom!#His bullies call him a girl to ridicule him! He's the only boy who wears a shirt when swimming! HIS CLONE IS A GIRL!#And! The reason he's trying so hard to hide the fact he's a ghost is because his parents actively and loudly hate ghosts!#This is a queer metaphor! This is a dark-humor ghost superhero queer metaphor show!#THEN THERE'S PLASMIUS!!!!!#The vampire-themed antagonist who wants to adopt Danny and is completely accepting of his ghost half but he's also an amoral jerk.#This is like...the ideal antagonist.#And he's a huge Packers fan which is a big hilarious plus to me personally#FUCk I love the concept of Danny Phantom so much. Like the show had some gems even though Hartman messed up a lot of it#Also Gilbert Gottfried was in there as Technus and I loved him every time he showed up#danny phantom#personal stuff

Good Partnership: Olive & Otto vs Ladybug & Chat Noir
When it comes to the aspects that make up Miraculous Ladybug, teamwork is one of the major themes (second to the fact that it’s ok to pressure your partner into accepting your love). Then there is the issue that Ladybug and Chat Noir’s roles as a duo are not always equal in some battles. To see the large contribution gap between LB and CN and how awful the chemistry is, let’s compare the properties of their teamwork to another iconic duo. Olive and Otto from Oddsquad.
Ladybug and Chat Noir:
Tumblr media
Ladybug generally does all the planning.
Chat Noir rushes into the fray, typically using cataclysm without thinking things through.
He is often used as a distraction
His largest motivation for fighting akumas isn’t to protect Paris but stems from his desire to see Ladybug and act as a human sacrifice to gain sympathy from the audience. (And it works).
Ladybug is given more responsibility and roles during concerning the miraculous.
She has a more tranquil and wise Kwami.
Adrien only does the bear minimum associated with the battle against Hawkmoth which is fighting the akuma of the day.
Ladybug is more responsible.
Chat Noir is a jokester who lives up to that title at the wrong times.
He depends on Ladybug’s leadership.
He throws tantrums whenever she doesn’t accept his overbearing, unhealthy obsession love.
He isn’t any stronger than the temporary heroes.
He works through his anger by leaving Ladybug to fight on her own and choosing to stay home and sulk like the toddler he is without even talking to her first.
He has no qualms about lying to her and pretending to be a different person.
More is expected of Ladybug because given the rules of the show, if something goes wrong for any reason, she is to blame.
He tricked an agitated Ladybug into going on a date with him.
He attempted to purposefully cause an akumanization just to see Ladybug.
He can’t take anything seriously to save his life.
He has been shown unable to resist going after Marinette to initiate a relationship with her when he found out she was ladybug.
He was the reason he and Ladybug lost their memories during Oblivio due to distracting Ladybug.
He had no issue with blackmailing plague to reveal a secret that had nothing to do with him while millions of people were drowning underneath his entitled ass.
His list of murder, property damage, unintentional damage, attempted murder, and accidental man slaughters just keeps growing.
His negligence in the future caused the damage of Bunnyx’s miraculous.
The akuma usually captures him and turns him against ladybug.
He discovered Ladybug’s identity and didn’t warn her about the danger she was in.
He is allergic to apologies.
Ladybug usually has to run damage control.
She gets angry whenever he tries to kiss her (valid)
She has more stress on her plate and yet is expected to know everything about Chat Noir and sense if something is wrong a millisecond after the first flag.
He never tries to correct people when they assume they’re a couple.
It is made abundantly clear that he does not know her well at all. (Ex. In he fell for a fake ladybug that tried to kiss him twice)
During the New York Special he didn’t tell her that he was leaving and thus left Paris without protection.
Ladybug never addresses his obnoxious grudge against the temps.
He has no issue with leaving his ring on a rooftop without Ladybug knowing completely disregarding the fact that anyone could’ve found the ring and use it for evil.
Romance being forced down our throats.
Olive and Otto:
Tumblr media
Good representation of friendship.
Character development.
Olive typically understands the math concepts more quickly than Otto.
Otto contributes to the team and tries to balance out the mission load so Olive doesn’t have to do all the work.
There is no corny romance being shoved into the episodes so their friendship is platonic in a cute way.
They genuinely care for each other.
They always see the mission to the end while gaining new knowledge from every new math concept they learn.
Their teamwork is a representation of problem solving, learning that’s it’s okay to make mistakes, and perseverance
Otto protected Olive from Todd when she nearly lost moral
A good representation of toxic partnerships (Todd and Olive)
The lesson aimed at impressionable young children is valuable
Otto doesn’t always rush into things and is shown to be intelligent
The chemistry they have is unique as with all the other iconic duos in Oddsquad
They are enjoyable to watch because of how down to earth they are
Neither feels nor acts entitled to the other’s time and attention
The show’s premise is an international agency with kids fighting evil in agent suits! How is this not fun to watch!
Because of their numerous successes (that are not made useless by a third-to fourth season) Ms. O offers them the positions of Mr and Mrs O in their own agency.
Olive strictly states that there’s nothing romantic about being partners which Otto agrees and now they run their own Odd Squad together as best friends.
It’s not like romance in partnerships is awful, but with the way Miraculous Ladybug portrays it, it’s either romance or nothing. Taking these facts into consideration, who makes the better duo?

Hello! I'm enjoying your analysis a lot and I'm sad i only discovered your blog now hahaha. Any thoughts on Ozpin and Oscar and how their relationship might progress in the future? I may have noticed a lot of probably unintentional panels in vol 8 between Pietro & Penny and Ozpin & Oscar, i wonder what you think?
Hello!
Thank you for your ask and sorry for the wait!
In general, I have not written much about Oscar (as I haven't about Ruby) because I am waiting for his arc to enter its climax. Hopefully, the next couple of volumes will help in this.
Anyway, I saw you already found some of them, but here are some metas on Oscar.
As for Ozpin and Oscar, theirs is clearly meant to be read as a mentor/mentee and father/son dynamic imo. Oscar's goal is to become himself, so to self-actualize and Ozpin's presence in his soul is at the root of its conflict. Obviously, it is not Ozpin's fault, but symbolically, it is as if he is assimilating Oscar hence negating him to truly become himself. In the end, obviously it won't happen and Oscar will be able to affirm himself as more than just Ozpin. At the same time, Ozpin will keep being an important part of who he is, just like parents are so for their children no matter what. You can actually see how this process has already started tbh. Back in the Mistral arc Ozpin was dominant and in charge and Oscar could only tag along. However, when he appears again in Atlas, Oscar is the one leading them and their relationship is much more balanced. This is also symbolically Ozpin learning to trust again through Oscar and healing himself. Plot-wise, I think Ozpin will disappear in the end and Oscar will be free of the curse.
As for Oscar and Penny, the panels you noticed were definately not coincidences! These 2 are important foils to the point that in the Atlas arc their story-arcs before the climax clearly parallel each other. It starts with the climax of volume 7, when both awaken a power not completely theirs and receive help from an adult (magic + maiden power). They do so after facing off the arc's 2 main antagonists thematically (Cinder and Ironwood). Then in volume 8 they are both kidnapped by an enemy and get separated from their allies. They are both objectified by their enemies too and demand their authority figures to trust them.
I have still to properly explore this foiling tbh. Part of it has to do with the theme of trust, but I feel I am still missing something. At the same time, it might have to do to their complementary roles in Ruby's arc, as well. In this case, next volume will be helpful. Finally, it is possible that in the long run Penny's arc will comment Oscar's.
Thank you for the ask!

FFXIV OC Edition Answers
Part 1 below the cut (I’ll create a part 2 if the original prompt gets more likes)
1) What’s their name?
Earley Hallowfield. Though the first name she was ever given was Earley aan Inlaurius and there was a very short period of her life where her name was technically Earley cen Sacturia. Hallowfield was a surname she created for herself in her later teen years.
2) Race and Main Class/Job
Hyur/Highlander; Dark Knight
3) A striking feature?
Her reddish brown eyes
4)Their age?
23 at the start of ARR and 26 by the end of Endwalker
5) Their personality?
Incredibly quiet and withdrawn. Earley has struggled with empathy and connecting with others since she was a child (she is steadily learning). But she has always had an inherit sense of kindness and curiosity, which led her into the adventurer life style.
6) Their clothing?
Practicality followed closely by style. Earley actually tended to wear more colorful clothes in ARR and dressed in a ways she thought read as “presentable.” However, post Vault + Dark Knight, Earley found comfort in mostly wearing monochrome colors (blacks, whites, browns) with occasional forays into earth tones (honestly there’s kind of an unintentional theme of her growing happiness coinciding with her developing “goth” style lol)
7) How was their childhood?
Rough. Earley was a foundling growing up in annexed Garlean territories. She spent childhood to mid-teenage years bouncing around different locations and orphanages due to a myriad of reasons. Being in this constant state of flux never allowed her to form any meaningful relationships with the people around her which then developed into a host of attachment issues.
She also spent a good chunk of childhood working (maybe illegally??) as child labor in magitek and ceruleum factories in order to have money to eat. She also managed to scrap by doing odd jobs for people as well (got started on the adventurer resume early)
In her early teens, she was moved to a orphanage in the Imperial Capital and adopted by an incredibly gentle and patient couple. However she seriously struggled with the genuine kindness they showed her (coupled with being incredibly uncomfortable living in the capital) and she ran away, living on the streets for a good while before taking up work as a “cabin boy” on merchant ships, where she actually began to develop more social skills.
8) Their goals?
For most of her life: survival; just make it to the next day and maybe, if she’s able, do some things that make the world a little better. For as bleak as her upbringing was, it also instilled a sense of proactive behavior and a reality that because the world is cruel and twisted she can either choose to ignore/contribute to the problem or actively do what she can to improve it, and she decided she’d do what she could to achieve the latter
This goal arguably stayed the same through the events up through Endwalker but the reasons for it changed dramatically with time, i.e. “survive so I can keep the people I love and care for safe and happy”. Post Endwalker especially she feels completely reinvigorated for the adventurer lifestyle and desires to truly explore a world she now finds so much more beautiful and colorful
9) How do they make a living?
Basically just living that adventurer life and doing odd jobs, though she is a skilled weaver and finds employment based on that from time to time
10) Their favorite food?
The idea of having “favorites” is a pretty recent novelty for her, but she discovered takoyaki while in Kugane and can never have her fill. Otherwise she tends to be happiest with most meat heavy dishes and/or a real good chunk of bread
11) Their worst fear?
I would say her initial worst fear would be finding herself stuck in a place she couldn’t run away from. The notion that she could always leave and go somewhere else was a small comfort for most of her life, so taking that away would be pretty devastating.
Over the course of the game she develops a host of new fears, which comes with the territory of learning to love and be loved. In Shadowbringers she especially comes to realize that her goal of “survive” has also become her biggest fear. The idea that, despite everything she’s been through, she always survives and with it grows a gnawing thought that there would come a time when there’s no one left but still she survived. She grew up lonely in crowded places but now for the first time she’s not alone and the world is so much more vibrant, how could she ever go back?
12) They have hobbies?
Hobbies have been a tough thing for her to pick up considering she gets fidgety  when she’s not “working.” Though she has begun to collect and press plants she finds, as well as actively trying to increase her literacy and so usually has some reading and writing material on hand to practice
13) Which is their favorite party role?
Healer during ARR (trust issues lol) but tanking later on
14) Their talents?
Due to her experiences in Magitek Factories she is surprisingly tech savvy, she would probably be a pretty proficient Machinist but the technology is a little too wrapped up in bad memories for her to be comfortable with it.
She also has a talent for field sketching (but zero skill for sketching from imagination lol)
15) Are they a native of Eorzea? What is their hometown?
Nope. Earley doesn’t have anywhere she would consider a hometown, she never stayed somewhere long enough to build that connection. However, if asked post-Stormblood where she considered “home” she would say “Ishgard”
16) Their parents?
She doesn’t have an inkling about them
17) Their siblings?
None as far as she knows. Though the bonds she built with Alisaie and Ardbert are what she imagines having siblings would be like.
18) Other family?
Earley considers the scions her family, though that feeling mostly goes to Alisaie, Alphinaud, G’raha Tia, Estinien and Tataru. She is close with Thancred, Urianger and Y’shtola but she has never really been able to shake the more business-like relationship she has with them. With the original group of scions she always felt like the outlier with how close they all were with one another, so she bonded much closer with the newer members.
She also considers Count Edmont and his sons to be family
19) What do they think of love?
Love has been one of the most foreign concepts for most of her life and she absolutley developed disorganized/avoidant attachment as a child. She fell in love for the first time with Haurchefant and it terrified her and she did everything she could to pretend she didn’t feel the way she did. His death occurred around the time she began to warm up to the idea of being honest with her feelings and it tore her apart. For a while it served as a validation of her belief that getting attached could only lead to getting hurt. That she simply wasn’t meant for love.
She did eventually start to build healthier relationships with platonic forms of love over the course of the game and eventually she was able to accept that, though she lost Haurchefant, she at least had the chance to know and love him.
Still, Post-Endwalker, her feelings on romantic love are still very complicated and still not fully in the healthiest place between what happened with Haurchefant and just...the whole situation with Zenos (its absolutley not love but its messy and complicated and weird and scary and exciting and mixed up in a whole tangle of trauma and intimacy), then throw a dash of the Emet-Selch/Azem situation into the mix, and this girl is like “I think I’ll pass of this for a while, thanks”

Hi !! Okay this meta will be very quickly put together so it’s not gonna be the best BUT. These two asks (here and here) got me thinking and I want to put my thoughts down.
Once again, Togashi’s paneling is driving me insane. During chapter 218, Gon tells Palm that he can’t give her what she truly wants, a relationship, because he’s too focused on training to get Kite back. But that whole speech is overlaid with a panel of Killua, which opens the door for some interesting (very subjective) interpretations.
Tumblr media
There are a few things that make me think that this seemingly random panel of Killua is actually here as a visual cue to link Gon’s words to Killua’s situation.
When you read Gon’s monologue, while it definitely applies to Palm, it can be read with a deeper layer. I feel like this also applies to Killua. Because at this moment of the story, Killua is discovering new feelings for Gon and just wants to spend more time with him, while Gon is tragically getting lost on a quest for revenge. Gon can’t give Killua what he really wants. He can’t give him the love and attention he needs and deserves, because right now, he has to focus on fixing the wrongs he made. He’s sadly emotionally unavailable. And here, the general theme of this interaction with Palm is Gon apologizing for not being able to provide affection to a person who wants to spend time together. Which. With what I just highlighted about Killua, can definitely apply to him.
Now, what’s interesting, is that a chapter earlier, this exact notion of wanting to spend more time together is highlighted in a very emotional, open-hearted moment.
Tumblr media
Here, Killua is explaining that he’s never been on dates, because all this time, he’s been with Gon. They’re always been together, spending time together. And Killua emphasizes that he really doesn’t want that to change. That he wants to stay by his side forever, and spend more time with him. That sentence, that idea of wanting to stay with the other, brings up that idea of spending more time together, just the two of them.
This idea of wanting to spend more time together is also reinforced by the japanese raw text ! In Japanese, Killua says “本当はこれからだってずっと” which is very very close to what the fanlation in the panel above says, but in japanese, there are two interesting subtleties.
• The use of 本当, which means “really”, and highlights that deeply rooted need to stay together.
• The use of これから, which means “from now on”, which highlights that idea of “keep on staying together”, that idea of “starting now”, of him wanting to spend more time with Gon starting right this moment.
Killua wants to spend more time with Gon, and he expresses that wish in this panel.
And then, the very next chapter, Gon explains that he can’t spend more time with Palm. He can’t give her more time together. And that assertion is overlaid with that panel of Killua.
So in my opinion, this panel of Killua is meant to be a visual cue to link Gon’s words to Killua’s situation.
Because just a chapter before, Killua expressed his need to stay with Gon and spend more time with him. And right after, Gon explains to Palm, who wants the same exact thing, that he can’t give her what she wants : more time together.
This paneling is interesting. You could definitely dismiss it as unintentional or too wacky an interpretation. BUT. This exact paneling pattern was already used by Togashi, just 19 chapters before.
In chapter 199, Killua calls Gon his light. He expresses deep adoration and love for Gon, and it’s a highly emotional moment. And the very next chapter, chapter 200, Togashi introduces us to Palm, who goes on to monologue about love. I’ve highlighted this in countless posts, but Palm’s speech on love can be applied to Killua’s situation. And it’s on purpose. Because a chapter ago, Killua let his feelings bloom, and now, a character is here to indirectly highlight that.
Tumblr media
And Togashi makes sure to link Palm’s speech to Killua’s situation, by providing a visual clue too.
Tumblr media
The visual clue to link Palm’s monologue to Killua is Palm directly staring at Killua in the eye while saying that “love just happens out of nowhere”.
So here, there are a few elements :
• Killua opens up his heart in an inner monologue
• The next chapter, a character says something that weirdly relates to Killua’s situation and thought in the previous chapter
• There’s a visual clue in paneling to link the character’s speech to Killua’s situation
Which is….. The same exact thing that happens in chapter 217 and 218.
• In chapter 217, Killua expresses his need to spend more time with Gon.
• The next chapter, Gon explains not being able to spend more time with Palm
• There’s a visual clue in the paneling : a panel of Killua while Gon explains the situation.
So in my opinion… This is smart, intentional paneling from Togashi. He’s giving us visual clues and laying down everything a chapter prior so that we make the connection between Gon’s words and his situation with Killua.
Gon can’t give Killua what he wants right now. Time, just the two of them. Even though that’s all Killua wants, Gon can’t provide right now, because he has to get stronger.
I think this specific situation is Togashi highlighting the reason why Gon can’t open up his heart to Killua right now, and he’s doing so through his use of Palm.
One more interesting parallel that reinforces my belief that Gon’s words applying to Killua is intentional is the fact that, just like I mentioned in this post, Gon’s date with Palm is foiling his day on Whale Island with Killua.
To me, Togashi’s goal was to create an environment completely reminiscent of Killua, so that the reader unconsciously links Gon’s words to Killua. Through having Killua assert wanting to spend more time with Gon, make Gon go on a date that closely remembers his night with Killua on Whale Island, explain that he can’t give more time to Palm over a panel of Killua…
I really believe that this was Togashi’s goal. To indirectly explain why Gon can’t open his heart to Killua right now. I don’t think this interaction with Palm was directed at Palm from a narrative point of view. It was meant towards Killua.
Of course, there are other interpretations ! Gon could be directly referring to Killua, thinking about him and suggesting that his reason for turning Palm down is because he’s in love with Killua. Or it could just be regular paneling with no deeper meaning.
But hey, media consumption is subjective, and I’m a hoe for gay subtext, so here are my thoughts on this!
One little note of optimism though to close everything nicely. Gon highlights that he can’t give Palm (Killua) more time together right now because he’s focused on Kite. But when you keep in mind that it’s likely Gon’s speech is referring to Killua, then something interesting is highlighted.
Tumblr media
That idea that, once this is over, he will be able to spend more time together. The same way Killua wants. Romantically.
Combine this with Ging’s speech on “something more important than the thing you’re hunting could be right there by the side of the road”, implying that Gon will need to realize this lesson…. I’m really thinking Gon’s next character arc will involve feelings realization. So hey, I’m gonna reach and say that this “i can’t give you what you want, at least not until this whole thing is over” is also meant to foreshadow feelings realization on Gon’s part.
This was very messy and in NO WAY subjective but if you read this until the end, thank you ! <3
(ty @buzzykrueger for making my brain buzz with thoughts !! if you want to add anything to this, on why you believe this could be Gon opening his heart and indirectly confessing he loves Killua, please feel free to add stuff!!)

So for the ask thing, could I possibly request Sodam and Komahina or Ishimondo
Sorry this took so long to get to! I’ve been taking a bit of a break from social media but I’m back now! Also sorry but Soudam is a bit of a discomfort ship for my so I won’t be writing about it but I’m more than happy to do Ishimondo and Komahina!
Komahina
1. Who has the cutest tickle laugh?
In my mind it would be Nagito. He would definitely try to contain it at first but i imagine his laugh to be really adorable. It wouldn’t be loud and cackle-y, more like being kinda quiet and ‘clean’ if that makes sense?
2. Who is ticklish in weird places and where would it be?
Due to Nagito’s ‘amazing’ luck, he’d definitely be ticklish all over. But one thing I headcannon about Hajime is that he’s extremely ticklish down the back of his neck and his back down to his tailbone. He wouldn’t be able to stand light tickles there!
3. Who gets cheer-up tickles?
Both, but more so Hajime! I feel like Nagito would get them when he starts downtalkin himself again, but I see that as more lightheaded punishment tickles than cheer-up tickles. On the other hand, I see Hajime getting cheer-up tickled, all the time! And Nagito definitely wouldn’t hesitate with the teasing and praise.
4. Who takes advantage of the other getting stuck in their t-shirt?
Hajime, definitely!! I feel like Nagito’s luck would play tricks on him sometimes (like in the anime when the vending machine wouldn’t work) and he’d get really stuck in the T-shirt. I don’t mean like ‘oh no I’m stuck for a few seconds’, I mean properly tangled up to the point his arms are pretty much useless. Hajime would definitely take advantage of his position cornering Nagito before letting loose, but would help him out eventually.
5. How did they discover each other’s ticklishness?
They were watching a film or just having some quiet time together when Nagito just blatantly asked Hajime if he was ticklish. Completely taken aback, Hajime denied it, but Nagito decided to test it out anyway. Upon finding out that Hajime had lied, Nagito decided to punish him for it. But eventually, Hajime was able to get the upper hand, and turned the tables on him.
6. Who can’t take tickle bites?
Nagito lol. I feel like he’d squeal a little bit if Hajime even attempted it.
7. Who has to be tickle-forced out of bed in the morning?
Nagito againnnn. Hajime found he would often be ready to leave the house while Nagito was just getting up, so he decided to take action. He does this thing where if Nagito doesn’t get up within 15 minutes of Hajime getting up, hed start tickling him for a minute at a time until Nagito got out of bed. It usually works but sometimes Nagito can be extra stubborn, which only means he gets tickled more! And Hajime never fails to mention how he could make the tickling stop by simply getting up. Sometimes though, Nagito decides to turn the tables on Hajime and do the same to him, though he isn’t so lenient with time.
8. Who gives up in a tickle fight?
Hajime without a doubt. I have no idea why and I would elaborate if I did, it’s just a gut feeling yknow?
9. Who is more likely to get hurt during a tickle fight?
Nagito probably. I can’t imagine him thrashing when being tickled, despite being the more ticklish of the two. Hajime however, I can definitely see him thrashing when being tickled, so Nagito is more likely to get kicked.
10. Who provokes the other into tickling them?
Nagito. Constantly. Though a lot of the time, it’s unintentional and he doesn’t see it coming. An example of this is when he starts downtalking himself, though usually he’ll realise what he said and start backing away before Hajime goes in for the kill. Though, sometimes he can just be a right little annoying punk and Hajime won’t hesitate.
Ishimondo
1. Who has the cutest tickle laugh?
Taka I think. I’m not sure why it’s just another gut feeling lol. But I feel like Mondo’s laugh would start win a very high pitched squeal.
2. Who is ticklish in weird places and where would it be?
Taka’s weird tickle spot would probably be his palms. I know they’re not that strange but I feel like he’s recoil at even the slightest touch. As for Mondo, his ears are so bad!! So are his calves.
3. Who gets cheer-up tickles?
Just Taka! Mondo hates seeing him down, so always tries to help him cheer up. Unfortunately for Taka, this usually involves a few minutes being tickled down the ribs. Taka has more ‘normal’ methods of cheering Mondo up, as he’s better with his words.
4. Who takes advantage of the other getting stuck in their T-shirt?
Mondo, absolutely. He doesn’t even give it a second thought; he just thinks it’s really funny and likes seeing Taka coil under his touch. Taka however, always helps Mondo get out of his T-shirt without any tickling. This doesn’t mean that Mondo isn’t fearfully anticipating it every time it happens though!
5. How did they discover each other’s ticklishness?
Chihiro was definitely the one to tell Mondo about Taka being ticklish. When confronted about it, Taka didn’t deny it. After all, Mondo surely wouldn’t tickle him right then and there if he found out right? Taka found out about Mondo being ticklish from either Celeste or Sakura, I haven’t decided which. Mondo though was a little bit more reluctant to admit it. But when he said the rumour was true, Taka didn’t tickle him there like he had before, which only left Mondo in more suspense for later.
6. Who can’t take tickle bites?
Both. RIP to both of em.
7. Who has to be tickle-forced out of bed?
Mondo. Seems to be a running theme in these asks where one of the two is always up at dawn and the other sleeps in till noon lol. But that’s the case here too! Taka is always efficient at getting up early, and tries to get Mondo to do the same after noting how late he always was for classes and work.
8. Who gives up in a tickle fight?
Both would dor sure. It just depends on the day and the situation.
9. Who is more likely to get hurt during a tickle fight?
Surprisingly, Mondo. I think he’d actually be quite good at controlling his movements so as not to hurt Taka when he’s being tickled. Taka on the other hand loses all control and thrashes about hopelessly.
10. Who provokes the other into tickling them?
Neither actually! They don’t like provoking each other. Instead, one will just start tease the other and then begin to tickle them.
Thank you for the ask!

Fruits Basket, Se03. ep 7 (part 1)
Just to clarify, the only thing I didn’t like abt this ep is tohru, the rest is so good. kyo’s mental state is at its lowest & you can feel for him! ugh!, surprisingly akito’s own lid was so well-done!, Ren & shigure were epicly disgusting & fascinating!, kureno was so well-written, the final scene of tohru & kyo rightfully setting for the climax! Before moving on to the good part,  I’ll quickly go over why torhu’s character was once again the most inconsistent character in the show:
Ep,6 ending showed us a completely broken kyo in full display in front of tohru, best furuba cliff hanger to date hands down, followup: tohru laughing, cooking & wondering if kyo is asleep!!!. Complete detachment & extreme insensitivity to what she witnessed earlier. Not an ounce of wonder if kyo is okay or if sth is wrong with him. Not a single inner thought of “ I hope he’s okay” or “ oh momiji don’t call him, He’s a bit tired” while flashbaking to his traumatized face. Honestly, all they needed to do was a small quick inner thought to connect the scenes. No need to write new scenes. Alas, Tohru’s complete lack of compassion struck me deep. I was told ep6 ending was an anime original scene, I don’t mind any diversion from the original since I don’t know the it, but those writers who wrote a complete new scene didn’t feel the need to transition from it to the rest of the manga? really? It’s hard to believe.
Choosing the kitchen’s happy scene after of kyo’s nightmare is not bad as it shows that nobody either care or know abt his issues, fair enough. However, choosing the kitchen’s happy scene after the PTSD in tohru’s own bedroom & not modifying tohru’s happy go lucky, let’s cook yay face to a realistic concerned expression is absurd! It really takes plenty from tohru as a character. This comes after tohru’s long awaited background ep which returns tohru back to square one.
Just last ep, tohru opened her lid in front of kyo & he comforted her, While she still yet to overcome her fears, she failed miserably in doing the only thing that she’s been doing since se01, ep1, being compassionate & thoughtful. Oh well, adding a light scene in the midst of kyo & akito’s dark sequence is more important than tohru’s character consistency & growth.
moving on from tohru~~~
-Kyo’s suffocation: (guilty or not, it doesn’t matter)
we get kyo’s nightmare really gave me chills & was visually well-done. it brilliantly conveyed the feeling of suffocation, blinding fear, & intensified trauma. The nightmare’s horror vividly showcases kyo’s deepest insecurities & trauma:
It started with his mother’s “ it’s not your fault” sth kyo craved to hear from her very badly. Yet, it contradicted her action: Choosing death over staying with him.
His mother brings salvation: the cat’s cage. The cat’s room parallel’s kyo’s real life at his parents house. In se01, eo24, kyo said, he wasn’t allowed to play outside or watch TV, while his bracelet ”handcuffs”  were routinely checked by his mom. Just like a prison. His mom sentenced him in the new prison fitting for more horrible sins. The cat’s cage for the rest of his life.
While kyo looks panicked & horrified but on the verge to refuse, kyoko appears. “I won’t forgive you” solidifying his mom’s judgement.
They both warn him of the consequences of living & be forgiven: tohru’s death. Go on, kyo. Add one more victim to suffer in your behalf while you roam free. You might think that you can escape the cat’s cage but your hands remain dirty with blood. Others might not see the blood on yoyr hands, but YOU do.
Kyo is torn between being an actual sinner or a victim, between causing intentional harm or unintentional hurt, between being guilty or not. It all doesn’t matter & kyo knows it. What matter is the punishment has been going for years now & he’s tired, broken, lost & just wants it all to end. Death. Slow death in a tiny cage is so fitting for all the pain he caused others, for all the pain he suffered.
Kyo knows (a) suffering in front of tohru is hurting her. (b) Accepting her love will lead to hurting her: confessing of kyoko’s death. (c) Abandoning her is hurting her. (d) kyo knows that he doesn’t deserve her, not after he caused all this pain. (e) Above all, kyo can’t live with himself anymore. being close to her hurt so much.
-Akito’s lid: ( broken home & broken self image):
I must say they did an excellent job of presenting akito’s past! (a) It was a mixture of narration through (shigure & Ren), (b) actual animation of her parents causing her pain & traumatizing her (the scenes of Akira’s last words, her mom’s accusations), (c) Actual animation of the origin of her parents (Ren & Akira’s relationship), (d) akito herself confessing abt her pain in front of kureno. Tohru’s own lid on the other hands was presented through (a) excessive narrative with minimum animation (the grandpa’s endless exposition of tohru’s background quickly wrapped up), (b) no real animation of kyoko actually hurting tohru or how she did it, just again the grandpa narrating that kyoko “went away”. (c) tohru’s own self recall of her past being cut into pieces & divided throughout the ep, once after running from shigure & another in the sheet scene. Tohru’s ep wasn’t bad at all, it was good, but it was evidently shortened & summarized lazily. Oh well. What both eps serve is painting tohru & akito as foils of each other:
Both are attached toxicly to their parent. Tohru: kyoko & Akito: akira.
Both were welling to create a fake persona or an image that keeps this toxic love alive & cling to it no matter what.
Both hurt themselves the most & are struggling to let go of this bond.
Both have parents that hurt them. Akito: ren & tohru: kyoko, altho it is not clear how kyoko hurt tohru but kyoko is more a ghost than a real character.
Both cling to a dead object that represent their deceased parent. Tohru & the photo frame & akito & the box.
Kyoko existed to be this perfect mother with no sins, the character that tohru embodied to “fix” & “ heal all broken kids”. She lives only in memories. Even other characters think of her as this holy being. It is alluded Kyo seemed to know her as a real person who can commit mistakes, therefore, to kyo, kyoko isn’t an angel or a holy being. However, thanks to their encounter at her death & her “ I won’t forgive you” words, kyoko now is a haunting ghost to kyo. Akira on the other hand, existed as this sickly, pale & fragile head of the house, treated with so much aura & holiness. He died but his sins remain in how he raised akito.
Both must let go of their toxic bonds. Tohru of her deep attachment to her mom & akito to the zodiacs.
Both must learn to form healthier relationships.
However, there are striking differences between them! tohru never abused anyone nor attempted murdering someone by throwing’ em from a terrace, or locking them & torment them or stabbing them with a knife!! Tohru’s sin is torturing herself which by consequence tortured kyo, too. Cuz there’s is a theme of a loved-one’s pain is mine as well. Kyo’s mom hurt her own self & ended her own life. This resulted in her son’s years of immense pain, trauma & self-loath & similar suicidal tendencies, se0, ep16 “ I’ will yuki & then kill myself”, & se02, e9 “ mother, if only you killed me instead”. tragic.
Side Notes:
I will say this with a broken heart....... Tohru must learn to let go of.... kyo. She is suffocating him. Not on purpose. I want them to be together! so bad! they’re so perfect for each other, but also, right now is NOT the time for this. Kyo & tohru’s character issues is NOT abt romance. They have real traumatic issues that are hindering their growth as independent characters. Tohru’s growth might not be well-written or well-presented, but kyo’s growth is still not explored. Next ep is where his lid opened! it must be painful. A person suffering from extreme self-loath & suicidal tendencies shouldn’t be presented so lightly in favor for the love cures all fairy tale! PLZ! NO!
Tohru must learn to not repeat her mistake again & live only for one person. She must let go of kyo in order to gain kyo back. Right now, She can’t have him! kyo is suffocated by his own trauma & adding tohru’s guilt on top of it is devastating. I mean, This could go differently & kyo might accept her love on the spot, & tohru might save him again or sth. I can see this being going deeper or shallower depending on the desired theme. Which of furuba’s heavy themes will be given to climax?
why is momiji doing a rabbit burger? he’s not cursed anymore. I know he’s keeping it a secret, but I thought momiji’s whole growth was abt letting go of the past. he still identifies with the zodiac rabbit?
Ren is hella sexy! & her Japanese VA deserves an Oscar! The way she expresses sexiness, seductive, anger, hate, contempt, sarcasm, delusional screaming, pain! EPIC!
“I thought I was created to receive others contempt” ugh! this hurt, kyo.
Shigure’s line abt looking at Ren to fantasize how akito will look if she were allowed to be a woman, ewww!!!! hella disgusting! imagine sleeping wth someone & fantasizing abt her daughter or vise versa!
Honestly, this ep while not excusing akito’s crimes & abuse of others, it did paint her in a human light. I really don’t want her to end up with shigure. Akito’s whole life is abt misunderstood love. Give her time to discover herself. A guy who slept with her mom is never a reasonable partner even if he loves her for eternity. but oh well~
Shigure indirectly caused Isuzu’s near death abuse by Akito. all in his attempts to free akito from the curse. I love how disgustingly selfish he is.  I remember his “ you mom told you to not interfere, kagura” in se03, ep3. shudder!!! if hiro never met haru that day & confessed to him, if kureno never noticed the maid! Still, he went & visited isuzu after her 4 moths imprisonment in the cat’s cage her hospitals discharge & recovery!
ngl... Shigure & Ren’s sexual tension is the biggest in furuba. Eww!
I’ll talk abt kureno & akito more in part 2. but I felt nothing watching kureno get stabbed lol. this is due to the trailer spoiling it & the ED having him happily in love -_-’.  bummer!.
I love tohru & kyo’s outfit in the ep cliff hanger. lol. Tohru really dressed up to confess.
Tohru read the room! Even if you magically forgotten how sickly & out of it he was in your room earlier, remember this: Kyo always have bad mood in the rain! Then again... he did hug her for the first time & called her by her name in the midst of a rainy storm. se01, e024. >_<!

January Favorites 2021!
GREETINGS
------------------------------------------
February 06. 2021
Hello,
I actually wrote a lot for this month, perfect way to start off the new year! I have been catching up and watching some dramas and some of the new anime this season, which i’ll discuss a few down below. I’m just realizing that the manhwa recommendations list is growing very long and it reading those titles that i have discussed made me reminisce on some of them and most of which I would re read again. I tried to read some shoujo manga again and thought the stories were shit, so i don’t think i’ll ever go back. I’m thinking of starting some shoujo manhwa’s because I have a few titles that seemed like they might have an interesting plot line. I’ll list in in my favorites if I do end up reading those, but so far i’m still filtering the BL titles .lol.
I’m just going to put this out there now before you read the “Hell segment” I mentioned a few titles that were popular that i dropped and I listed the reasons why i dropped it, they are popular for a reason and if you like that and don’t take the plot line too seriously then that’s on you, but i don’t like the subject matter being glorified rather than “lesson learned” if you know what i’m saying so take my comments down there with a grain of salt...it’s just how i read it and interpreted the subject matter, it has nothing to do with the creator and their thoughts. This is going to apply to all of my reviews, they are just my opinions only so don't take what i say seriously if it you are offended that i happen to diss your favorite manga.
Anyways, i have no music recommendations this month all i have been listening to is podcasts, so listening to people talk about nothing.lol. That’s what my life has come to...
If you would like I can share a few that I have been listening to, let me know.
Alright, you all have a lot to read to i’ll just end here.

So crash into you is now finished and you can now read the entire thing, so happy it ended really well and of course if you have seen my last favorites journal I made and entire post dedicated to this manhwa. The story is really heart breaking and definitely deals with more adult and mature content and it really is disturbing in some parts, so viewer discretion is advised.
That’s all i have to announce as an update, the rest is still ongoing. This month I came up with certain themes for my hell segment, last month I started with some manhwa that all had a common theme of Scum antagonists that you will run into when reading these manhwa, some of which ranges from mild inconvenience to this piece of shit should be set on fire. If you have not read that please check it out and watch me rant about stupid people.
This week featured another theme that you will run into reading shounen ai/ yaoi manhwa and manga, it’s a very universal theme of “threesomes”...I don’t get it, I don’t get why people think that’s  okay to have three dicks in a room...i’m like there’s three dicks here, that’s way too many..lol. to each their own I guess, but i’ve selected three to talk about that also deals with mature themes and a bunch of people making poor decisions.
But before that, let’s talk about the normal shounen ai manhwa/manga that I have to recommend this month.
-----------------------------------------------
Welcome to heaven
-----------------------------------------------
1) Inner Beauty:
Tumblr media
“Minjae’s been dumped. Fed up with their long distance relationship, his actress girlfriend Hye-Eun left him while he was “finding himself” in Australia. When Minjae rushes home and runs into Hye-Eun and her gorgeous new man, Woochan, at the airport, drama ensues. Amidst the chaos, the two love rivals bang heads. Upon waking, they discover they’ve changed bodies! Why have they switched? How will they cope? Will they ever be able to go back? Find out as Minjae and Woochan embark on a journey that takes “self-discovery” to a whole new level!”
Firstly this reminded me of the k-drama secret garden, if you have seen it you know that the main protagonists switched bodies at some point and with this manhwa, it happens in the first chapter. I liked how the relationship between the two boys started with minjae’s girlfriend leaving him for another man woochan, and after minjae and woochan switched bodies because he wanted to give the girlfriend a necklace as a gift , he switched bodies with woochan after bumping into him. They went to a shaman to seek out various ways to get back into their bodies while they find out things about each other that they were not aware of,  in the end minjae and woochan were drawn to each other. The necklace is a tribal ornament that has a mysterious power to show a person’s past through their dreams. It seems that the reason why their bodies keep switching was because there was another necklace that was similar that was supposed to be it's partner; they go a try to search for the mysterious phenomenon surrounding the necklace that leads to their relationships with other people changing.
my favorite part of this story is that woochan and his father didn't get along very well because of a misunderstanding, while other parents didn't admit to their mistakes, woochan's father wanted to do so and repair his relationship with woochan, which made the story more compelling. Theres so many manga plot lines whee the parent is abusive and harsh and never did they think it was thier fault, but in this story woochan's father mans up to the things he did and how it affected woochan and i'm really happy about that.
Another thing I like about this story is the end where woochan who was an actor turned director made a film about his and minjae’s relationship because he wanted their story to be remembered and inspire other relationships that were similar to their own to overcome their hardships. This story has so much meaning and it’s something I would recommend to anyone who just likes a good story.
2) False Memories (lee gpiee):
Tumblr media
” Wan’s got a face that scares everyone away before he can really become friends with anyone. So when Ha-woon befriends Wan on his first day at his new school, Wan is elated. Ha-woon must be an angel! It doesn’t take long, though, for Ha-woon to betray him in a terrible way, and Wan discovers Ha-woon might be more devil than angel. But then an accident happens that gives Wan a second chance at friendship with his angel. And it all starts with one big, fat lie.”
This one is really interesting, it is about a boy named wan and he was the new transfer student at a new school and how despite how he looks he wanted make friends this time around. Hawoon met wan when he was climbed off of a tree and fell on him, he immediately took a liking to him and befriended him, being very grateful to have finally met a friend he wanted to be a very likable person to hawoon, but then it was discovered that hawoon had many secrets and is not the kind person he is portrayed to be. There was an incident where one of his followers was spying on him and he wanted wan to essentially beat that person up in front of his other gang members. Obviously wan didn’t want that and this caused some strife between the two of them and wan began to be bullied by hawoon and his gang members. Later hawoon was trying to escape from his brother who went to his apartment to look for him and ran into wan who hides him over night, things tooka turn for the worse when hawoon thinks wan is being really nosy about his business and pushes him away and that is when the guy who hawoon wanted to beat up his him on the head and hawoon woke up with amnesia. Being the only person who had witnessed that, wan brought hawoon back to his place, when hawoon woke up with no previous memories of wan he lied to him claiming to be his best friend and the tow of them started to pursue this new friendship, of course things don’t last forever and the both of them discovered that hawoon in fact had many secrets that he preferred to keep under wraps especially about his family.
I know a lot of comments have said that it was stupid to lie to him about being friends but I understand that it was wan’s way to know the real hawoon. Hawoon’s personality was built by the lack of trust he has received from people and he was never able to open up to a person about anything. I really liked how the incident ended up saving their relationship in the end and they have a lot of cute moments together while going from being friends to being in love with each other. This is a very wholesome story and if you like that plot you will like this story, it really is not complicated.
3) Hand in Hand:
Tumblr media
“While running a small pharmacy in the outskirts of the city, Sam meets a mysterious and out of place patient. This man named noah who was covered in bruises every time he had stopped by the pharmacy, Sam noticed that he seems to be in worse shape every time they meet and became curious as to why that might be, one day he saw noah getting into a shady van with a bunch of people and discovered that this town had a secret that kept everyone involved very secretive. Noah who was discovered to be a part of that society still goes and sees sam in order to be close to him, sam was then reeled into his world and became part of that society that was kept hidden.”
Sorry I had to write that summary on my own cause I could not find a good summary, so basically the pharmacy was inherited by Sam when his father passed away in this small town, there was no one to take over for him so Sam had to give up his dream of staying away from this town to moving back to take over the family business, There one night upon closing he meets a man covered in bruises while coming in to buy some alcohol and cigarettes, he treated him because it looked painful and was curious about him,
This curiosity escalated when he saw him get into a van with a bunch of ugly dudes, the pharmacy assistant said that there were gangs running around and it was best to avoid these people. Sam made the assumption that it was these men that were beating that man up and decided to pull him away from them. Noah then introduced himself to sam as they walk back to noahs apartment and he showed some interest in sam and asked what he wanted as payment for his treatment, Sam of course didn’t want anything which made noah surprised, but relayed to him that the offer still stands when he feel like telling him.
Not only being curious that noah shows up in front of him each time with more bruises but the fact that he may have discovered the town had a secret.
It was in fact an underground gambling scene that caused a lot of people to be very irritable, noah was involved in this and called it “work” as he had a debt to pay back to the person that took him in. Sam didn’t want to be involved but because of his interest in noah the two of them became romantically involved upon a few meetings and Sam started to develop feelings for him and likewise noah was in love with Sam.  I’m not going to spoil the end because it was really intense, if you like mysterious plot points to your story this one will do the trick, it will keep you guessing as to what will happen next.
4) Stanning 101:
Tumblr media
“Ji-Yul Park is an ordinary office worker who spends his spare time stanning a boy group, unlock and more specifically it’s leader, Jay.One day, he time travels back to his past where he encounters Juno, another idol and becomes his manager. What happenes when Juno develops feelings for Ji-Yul? Would Ji-Yul choose loyalty with Juno or his fanboy fantasy with Jay? And what is the purpose for Ji-Yul traveling back to the past-what is he supposed to repair or change?”
I’m not going to lie this title...don’t let it fool you, I thought this was going to be a satire on the whole K-pop fandom and just a story poking fun at k-pop fans...but boy was I fooled..LOL. This summary doesn’t even begin to describe how deep this story goes.
So as the summary says it’s about a fan named ji yul who is a stan of a group called “unlock” and his favorite member Jay was going to leave for military service and he was really bummed about not being able to see him for a while, so he went out drinking with his friends who share the same interest and cried his eyes out wishing that he could go back to the time when jay and his group first debuted.
And of course....that happened some how he was enabled into a time skip backwards to when the group first debuted. He first met up with a roommate that he was going to be sharing a room with, this was none other than juno a trainee a small company, Juno was a sensation later on in history and he was a rival of the unlock, and of course being a stand of jay he didn’t like the idea of being around juno. Upon meeting ji yul was already drunk and the next morning found juno and him had slept on the same bed, this made things between them awkward. But upon a series of events he became juno’s manager and inevitably began to understand the person juno is and how hard he worked, as well as his ties with jay. While trying to figure out what was the reason for the time skip he met another person who was sent back to the same time for a different reason his name was suho, and suho was here for another person named rose who was a in a different group. Rose is a sunbae of Juno’s and the two of them are acquainted, But there was something about Rose that was alluring and that made his “ sponsors” want to see him all the time, this lead to a lot of conflict within his group, saying that he’s the kind of person who would sleep around with anyone that has money.
Suho was a fan of rose and the reason he came back was because in his time he had found out that Rose had committed suicide, now....this is a topic that i feel very strongly about as you may know if you listen to k-pop news there are certain group members from famous groups that have committed suicide as of late, a lot of which was diagnosis of depression,
This story deals with not only suho having had gone through depression and suicide attempts but Rose who was going through that as well, Suho wanted to make sure rose stays alive, so when he was able to meet him he did all he can to be beside him and get him away from these sponsors that clearly only want one thing from him. This had made rose and suho close enough to develop romantic feelings towards each other, it gave rose the courage to confront the ceo from the company. In the end the company ceo was being a dick and tried to force rose to sleep with these people in order to get chances to be on screen and promote their group. One of their members knew from the start what rose had to go through and after rose was being hunted down by the ceo after disappearing, the member took footage from the ceo of all the nasty things he made rose do and gave it to Suho? I don’t remember this part well, but suho somehow go the usb footage and saw that rose had been sexually abused and assaulted by those men. Rose had went to see suho at the time and saw that he found the footage, at that moment he wanted to jump off the railings because he felt ashamed, but suho explained that it was rose’s music that saved him from doing the same thing he tried to do which was of course suicide.
Needless to say, at least in this story suho’s love for rose was able to keep him alive and as soon as suho w able to convey that he had disappeared and asked rose to find him in the future. I chose to write about Suho’s story because I just want to put it out there that suicide and depression are real struggles and to please seek help as soon as you can. Back to ji yul and juno, they in fact had developed feelings for each other and ji yul was sent back because he was in car accident with juno and in the both of them lost their memory of each other that was why ji yul only remembered Jay and being a fan of unlock while not remembering the times he shared with juno and how much he loved him. This made. He was able to tell juno after some time that he is in fact from the future and the both of them tried different ways to preserve the time that they had before ji yul would be sent back. Ji yul tried to defy fate but it turns out the accident happened to juno being in the car without having him there, meaning things will still take its course and you can cheat fate. So ji yul grabbed juno who was still unconscious and put him into the passenger’s seat and said his goodbyes to him, wishing for them to meet again even though knowing that it could be impossible for them to be together in the future he drove into the upcoming traffic. Ji yul woke up again back in the time he belonged the only thing he can remember was seeing juno’s picture in front of him and tears leaving his eyes.
Omg this is a k-drama all in one package, this is where i’ll stop because the manhwa is not finished, so if you liked my summary of it so far please read the actual thing, you will not be disappointed, I promise you.

Welcome to hell
-------------------------------------------------
I don’t know how to begin this segment after writing all of that for the heaven’s segment, those stories were just so good compared to the trash that i’m about to share here. But most of the trashiest stories have more complex plot points than normal stories. I mean you need to go through hell to come out the other side right?
*warning* this section talks about mature content! 18+ only, read at your own risk!
Let’s begin then.
1) Private lessons:
Tumblr media
“Hajoon has been crushing on Eun-woo ever since they started college together, but he hasn’t had any opportunities to get close with him. At least they have a class together this semester: a lecture taught by the popular Professor Seo Joohyuk. Hours after the first class, Hajoon remembers he left his assignments in the classroom. Upon reaching the lecture hall, he becomes witness and accomplice to a series of private lessons Joo-hyuk is giving Eun-woo—lessons that unleash his own deepest, riskiest desires.”
I’m starting off strong ...oh where to begin? This story has so many messed up characters, I’d have to say all three of them are messed up. Firstly I don’t care if your professor looks like a  dilf (urban dictionary if you don’t know what it means) you should never get involved with them. Lol. And I don’t know what school you people go to to have professors that look like this...all of mine were crusty old men who were mean and arrogant.
I makes me sick to think that there are some older men that would take advantage of people like the way Joohyuk did with Eunwoo and Hajoon. Hajoon just wanted to get Eunwoo’s attention, but because of joohyuk, he took “notice me senpai” to the next level. but I guess i understand from hajoon’s point of view that if he does nothing, he will never be change his relationship, so if he liked him then getting involve would be a way in. Eunwoo was so enthralled with joohyuk that he would just be a sex partner knowing that he would never have potential feelings for him in the end. I did feel sorry for him at first but then there was this part in the story where they were all preparing for this festival thing and he and hajoon were in a group and had to be waiters for the night of the festival, this was when eunwoo started to somewhat show interest in hajoon. Then that fricken dilf was like “you’re doing things on your own and i’m going to show you why you shouldn’t defy me...” or something like that, asserting dominance saying that eunwoo would always choose me over you to hajoon, and indeed on the night of the festival when he was supposed to work, shit went down between hajoon and this senior and fight broke out while hajoon was defending eunwoo , only later to find out that eunwoo was screwing the dilf in his office while all this was going on, I think i felt my veins snap...this idiot had the audacity to f around with that dilf while hajoon was working his ass off and even defended him. Smh....anyways in the end Eunwoo fell in love with hajoon and gave up on his feelings over joohyuk, knowing that joohyuk will always look at his other partner seojin. So in the end it worked out, but this whole story is a dumpster fire of trash.
So moral of this story is don’t get involved with dilfs, don't simp for them...lol. Just don’t do it. I don’t recommend this story for the content but if you are into trash and BDSM, then maybe this is the one for you.
2) Behind the scenes:
Tumblr media
“Korea’s hunkiest top model Woo Taeyoung has decided to try his hand at acting once more. No more of those teen heartthrob roles, Taeyoung has his eyes set on a much more…mature role. And when he finds out his idol, the dreamy Koo Min-ki, is set to be one of the main actors of the film, he is even more determined to get the role as his co-star. The two seem to have a natural chemistry with each other…both on and off screen. Will this end up helping their performances? Or will it cause their worlds to come crashing down?”
This story is a also a dumpster fire of flaming garbage, it starts off with a model turned actor named taeyoung who works mainly as a model but is secretly a fan boy of another famous actor named minki and he went to his fan signing in disguise, only to be discovered by the fans and cause a racket and minki ended up injuring himself. This caused taeyoung to be able to meet minki in the most embarrassing way, but he wanted to make it up to him by helping him until his injury was recovered. One night minki was driven home by taeyoung and they ran into another popular actor named wonho...(monsta x..lol. i’m so kidding don't kill me...) and this dude saw minki coming out of taeyoung’s car and immediately became violent...
there it is red flag!
Turns out wonho was minks boyfriend, taeyoung only knew that his favorite actor minki was in a 10 year long relationship with his girlfriend, says the media, but he didn’t know that it was a man...and this violent piece of shit at that. Taeyoung had heard rumors of wonho being excessively violent to anyone who comes near minki and anyone who has worked with him always was threatened by wonho. So even though taeyoung reluctantly left minki with wonho he still was really worried, rightfully so.
Wonho is the worst kind of garbage out there; even being in a relationship he still forced minki into having sex with him. This is rape, even if you are in a relationship it means the same thing it’s non consensual and disgusting. Not only this but being violent to everyone that is near minki, is enough for anyone to end this relationship. But minki was that idiot who believed that the old  wonho he once knew  would come back one day and so this ongoing relationship abuse lasted for a long time. Taeyoung of course got an opportunity to make his acting debut, and auditioned for the of minki’s character’s lover, it was the first queer film in production so to the director it was a passion project that he wanted to see succeed. He passed the audition and showed his potential and chemistry with minki on screen very well, so the director was happy casting him in the role. But of course guess who finds out and showed up on the film set...wonho. He obviously made minki uncomfortable and also taeyoung, but in series of events taeyoung went to the bathroom and found wonho and minki making out inside and realized the person he admired was gay and was in a relationship with wonho for a long time. Later on he got to know minki more and found that he had romantic feelings towards him rather than just admiration. Because minki and wonho’s relationship was abusive minki was contemplating on ending it but didn’t have the courage to, it was taeyoung who showed genuine feelings for minki that was able to push minki to move forward. So while this was going on, wonho was in fact being sponsored by a certain person in order to get roles in his acting career, this person was taeyoung’s cousin...yeah i know messed up,. This dude is very toxic and made things go wrong between wonho and minki and that’s how their relationship went downhill for 10 years. Anyways to sum it all up a lot of stuff went down and wonho’s actions were no longer acceptable and as soon as minki found out this ongoing sexual relationship between wonho and taeyoung’s cousin, he broke it off with him finally and moved around different places for a while since wonho would not leave his apartment he couldn’t go back. Taeyoung and minki ended up dating each other now and he succeeded as a model turned actor with this role. Wonho after a series of events was able to let minki go after seeing him one last time and apologizing for everything he’s done to him. The movie was very successful and won many awards and the ending of the series just showed taeyoung and minki talking about their relationship on screen and off screen to the viewers...hence the title “behind the scenes”
Okay this trash made me angry and sad at the same time since it talked about a relationship that has gone bad and two people refusing to leave it since they have been together for a long time. You know when you should end things and if a person starts to change there is no way for them to be the same again. So all in all this story is really good for depicting all sorts of relationship issues and drama. I would say yes give this read because the story itself says a lot about the writer and how they think. This is one of those stories the pull you into the depths of hell and once you resurface your see things in a different perspective.
3) Turn off the camera:
Tumblr media
“Yeon Jihoon is the leader of an idol group that’s hit a dead-end in their career. Now, he’s received a golden opportunity to save his group: a spot on the year’s most anticipated reality show, where he’ll spend two weeks living and filming with top stars Do Yoojin and Seon Yohan. The one threat to the show’s success? Yoojin and Yohan won’t stop having sex with each other. To stop a scandal from tanking the show and his career, Jihoon must keep his co-stars’ antics hidden from the cameras at all costs. Will Jihoon be able to keep these steamy shenanigans a secret for two weeks? And will he survive when both of his co-stars turn their attention on him?”
This is some straight up kinky garbage, like the description says, jihoon got the opportunity to promote his group by becoming a member in an upcoming reality show with two popular actors, the show is a reality show of the three of them living together doing daily activities while cameras are installed in their home. You can see where this is going right? When jihoon first arrived into the house to greet the other two actors; yoojin and yohan and he found the two of them in a room having doing sexual acts and even tried to cover for them when the camera crew arrived up stairs in the room.
After several attempts of the other two actors having sex at different points in time jihoon became very aware of the fact that they were doing this for the fun of not being able to get caught having sex on camera. So basically this was like a fun game to the two actors.
Yoojin and yohan were caught the third time by jihoon while having sex on the kitchen table and so the three of them had a discussion and jihoon made them sign an agreement not to touch him...of course that didn’t work and he was caught in unfortunate circumstances surrounding the both of them, to the point where both sex partners started to want to pursue jihoon for themselves.lol
This manhwa is just straight up kinky trash, it is meant to be a satire on three some relationships and not meant to be taken seriously, so just going by that, there’s not much point to the story, it’s not in depth it’s just interesting to watch jihoon reject these actors advances in order to save his virginity.lol. I feel like from the recent chapters jihoon maybe more interested in yoojin than yohan so i’m waiting to see if yohan even has a chance to be on jihoon’s radar.
This is still ongoing and it only has 20 chapters so far so i don’t have that much to say about it, this was just something really normal in terms of yaoi to read while I was reading some dark stories, the art is really nice too if that is of any interest to you.
*********************************
So there are a couple of series that are quite popular that I have left out because I have dropped then fairly early on.  one series called “Hate or Love” which i started a while back then and didn’t like the whole plot of having an abusive sibling forcing another sibling into a sexual relationship... i’m like nope...
This manhwa should have just been called “ Domestic boyfriend” I would have avoided it all together, because I have read “Domestic girlfriend” it is essentially the theme, and a giant dumpster fire of flaming garbage.
The main reason i stopped it was because the other person that I was hoping the main guy would end up with didn’t end up as the “ winner” well from what the comments said anyways, cause i stopped fairly early on when i found out the guy i liked was not going to be the end game, that makes me sad cause from the early chapters that i have read, there was a lot of sexual tension between the two of them and I was hoping this author would not push abusive sibling relationship as the plot...but looks like she did ...and i don’t care for it and find it gross...but that’s my morals, even if they were not siblings by blood they grew up together as siblings...that’s still vastly inappropriate. I'm used to it since I grew up with Japanese anime and manga with incest themes, but it still bothers me.... Vampire knight...
Even if they were not even related, i still would not like that red haired dude regardless cause his character seems like a dick, and i don’t think he suffered enough consequences for his actions to make him a redeemable character in my opinion. And also...out of 7 billion people on this earth, you would rather be with your brother...smh.
Also if we are talking about using sibling relationships in a sexual way as a plot line, then how i interpret this manhwa is that it is focused on more of glorifying abuse and sexual relations between siblings rather than making the subject matter more serious, if you know what I mean. But to each their own if you just read it because it interests you then feel free to do so, i’m not interested and decided to just drop it early on.
The other one is called “ Yours to claim” another popular series but again I don’t like dark haired dude,  I think he’s a dick and if it was me I’d choose the blonde guy, he seems like he would be a person that would treat me better. I just don’t understand the appeal of being treated like shit by people, if anyone treats you like that...please dump their ass! Because It’s not okay! Both of these have the “ other guy “ as the better option for a potential relationship but they always choose the other messed up abusive/ bad boy and i just don’t why...i just feel disappointed but literally not surprised since it’s an ongoing trope in any sort of romance based media.
But needless to say there is nothing for us as the audience to do but to read them, we don't make any calls on who the person ends up with and the plot lines that happen in the story, so that is that i guess.
I’m having a mental breakdown just thinking about these two series, i included then briefly cause they fall into this weeks’ theme of trash.

K-DRAMAS/SHOWS
-------------------------------------------------------
The tale of nokdu:
Tumblr media
I described this drama as the mulan reversal, if you know the story of mulan, she dresses up as a man and goes into the imperial army camp to fight in the war in place of her father, nokdu is an adopted child that was suddenly hunted down by a bunch of assassins one day and instead of fleeing with his father and older brother he decided to follow the assassin into the city since he was able to injure them in the leg. He followed the assassin into town and was almost able to catch them when he was suddenly arrested from a disturbance another young man in town has caused. Later he found out that the assassin was heading to a village that was out of sight and exclusively to women, in order for him to go in he would need to dress up as a woman, the opportunity arose when he helped a young woman escape from the village with her husband and she gave him her clothes in exchange for his to escape. He then infiltrates the village and now has to chase after the assassin and try to kill the mastermind behind the assault on his family. But what he discovers was more than what it seems. This is 16 episodes and is completed if you want to watch it; I recommend it since its really good.
True beauty:
Tumblr media
Everyone and their mother is watching this web toon turned drama, I say this cause my sister who gave up watching any k-dramas watched this one and read it...this is something, she doesn’t like a lot of things so i decided to watch it after she told me it was good. I watched it and I didn’t like it mainly because the problems in here is very much a young adult type of problem, like having acne and having to deal with bullies at school, these are all problems you mainly deal with when younger so none of this drama is relatable so I didn’t enjoy it. If you like the high school romance drama setting you might like this, but I have watched so much more meaningful dramas, this doesn’t do it for me.
That’s all the dramas I have watched so far, I mainly have been listening to podcasts instead of watching anything, I find it hard to find an interesting drama to watch these days, I have been enjoying listening to people talk about nothing lol.
-------------------------------------------------------
ANIME
---------------------------------------------------------
Haikyuu:
Tumblr media
Finished Haikyuu season 4 part 2, I left this for a while so that all the episodes were finished and every time I watch it i gives me the same feeling every time. This part focuses on a lot of characters that were not fully flushed out in the first few seasons, like tanaka and nishinoya and one of the bench players...i forgot his name. I really like their portrayal of hinata this season he really is the saving grace of karasuno, not because of his obscure skills in volleyball or incredible stamina but because he’s playing volleyball because he loves it and it is fun even if the stakes are high. I feel a lot of the players here this season were so stressed they forgot that the game is supposed to be fun, and he keeps reminding them that it is what it is and that they should live in the moment. I loved seeing that develop in his character because i feel like there was too much focused on kageyama for a while and I wanted to see more of hinata’s growth.
So I was pleased with season 4 and I can’t wait to see more, haikyuu is really one of those anime that people are widely talking about now and it really is well deserved.
Skate the infinity:
Tumblr media
Another sports anime about skate boarding, the animation is really nice and art style is really beautiful. I know there are so many sports anime out there now but this one is really interesting, I like the relationship between the two main characters reki and langa, it reminds me of the friendship between riku and sora in Kingdom hearts, reki teaches langa how to skate board from scratch and langa being a previous snow boarder was able to race one of the best contenders in the underground skating rink and beat them in a match but of course he isn’t a genius so he wanted to learn everything from the ground up since he thought it was fun. Lol. I like seeing the progress so far in their skating journey, this anime is really wholesome.
Dr. Ramune mysterious disease specialist:
Tumblr media
This is a very satire anime, It is really comedic and deals with a doctor treating weird diseases, like the first episode there was a girl with a disease that made her cry out condiments as tears. It's actually very interesting in terms of the types of diseases they treat in each episode and how he uses these magical items to do so, that is a really bad explanation for this show but please watch it .It’s interesting so far and I’ll write more as it finishes.
so as a finishing statement, I hope you all enjoyed the favorites for January, I have been able to catch up on a lot of things which is why I have so many things to talk about this month, I already have the next theme for the Hell segment planed out for next month, so I can't wait to share that, if you like the manhwa recommendations and my excessive ranting so far.
until then. please take care of yourself and your love ones ! lunar new years is coming up, have a great year and I hope 2021 will be a lot better please follow me on my social media listed below if you'd like
thanks!

An album lost in time! Signals From Afar by the Shortwave Mystery was recorded in the mid-1980s, but wasn’t mastered and published for all to hear until 2011, during the “minimal synth” revival, giving it a sound unlike anything else. Sadly, within a few years, both the frontman of the group and the label that released it would be no more. (Transcript below the break!)
Welcome to Passionate Reply, and welcome to Great Albums. Today, we’ll be looking at a relative curiosity: Signals From Afar by the Shortwave Mystery, initially recorded between 1983 and 1985, but not properly mastered and released until 2011.
The Shortwave Mystery were one of the innumerable music groups that sprung up for a few years, and left behind little more than a self-released 12” single by the time they broke up. It’s a common fate for small-time acts, but in some sense, they may actually have been better off in the 20th Century than they are now. A contemporary artist might leave only digital files, vulnerable to data losses like the one suffered during Myspace’s failed server migration in 2018. The Shortwave Mystery were at least kind enough to give posterity a single physical artefact of their existence, in the form of their 1985 single, “Pilots.”
Music: “Pilots”
While “Pilots” shows a lot of promise, with its insistent wall of hammering synth, it also seems to lose quite a bit from its very muddy vocals. As far as I can tell, this effect seems unintentional, and merely a byproduct of amateurs’ inability to access superior recording equipment. It’s worth noting that *Signals From Afar* also features a new version of “Pilots,” which does away with this completely, and provides a higher-fidelity vocal track, for better or for worse. Warts and all, “Pilots” won some underground club play, eventually becoming an item of substantial interest during the rediscovery and revival of so-called “dark wave” or “minimal synth” music in the 21st Century, which was (and is) quick to hail similarly obscure or semi-anonymous works as gems worth preserving. It was in this context that the Shortwave Mystery were re-discovered, and the other assorted demos they recorded during the mid-1980s were finally given a proper production treatment, and released to the world.
Music: “Special Girl”
Tracks like “Special Girl” are dominated by a throbbing, incessant synth backing, which is satisfyingly similar to what we hear on “Pilots.” The combination of 80s recording and 10s mastering gives this album a mesmerizing and unique effect: all the brazenness of the simplistic and primitive early synthesiser, combined with the crispness and precision of sophisticated digital production. “Special Girl” in particular has a relatively simple compositional structure, and one which I think really lets the sonic qualities of Signals From Afar shine. It has a straightforwardness, or perhaps a single-mindedness, that feels direct and concise--a quality which I think is often found in the works of entirely unprofessional or amateur musicians. The gothic dread of “Special Girl” is uninhibited, perhaps even indulgent in its fullness. It’s also not the only track on the album to deal with dark themes--take for example, “Turn Time Away.”
Music: “Turn Time Away”
“Turn Time Away” portrays people who have lost love, and hence retreated from society. This is no ordinary bout of depression, but rather something implied to have a supernatural dimension to it--something that exiles its sufferers outside the boundaries of time and space. This is, of course, quite fitting for an album which is also, in its own way, “outside of time.” Also fitting is the track’s sense of atmosphere: while it retains the harsh, bright synth textures heard on “Special Girl,” its vortical runs give it an unnerving sense of high tension, and contrast with the slower-pace motif that introduces the track. Still, not everything on *Signals From Afar* is so steeped in gloom and doom. A number of them are actually quite playful, such as “Scuby-Ruby.”
Music: “Scuby-Ruby”
With rubbery synth and hints at a pentatonic scale, “Scuby-Ruby” sounds a bit like the seminal work of Yellow Magic Orchestra. Childlike samples take the place of lead vocals in this track, and they seem to add a note of naivete or innocence. Unlike many instances of sampling, which serve to make us re-evaluate cinematic dialogue or the content of some politician’s speech, there is no apparent significance to the syllables being said, aside from a brief instance of “I love you” which is a bit buried. Much as “Special Girl” is nakedly gothic, reveling in the pure fun of making something spooky, “Scuby-Ruby” is up-front about its trifling nature. It is, undoubtedly, one of the album’s more experimental tracks, conceived before sampling had penetrated mainstream music to a heavier degree, but it doesn’t come across as “challenging” or “difficult.” It sounds like something made for the joy of making it, and this sense of joy is an infectious one. Still, there’s a certain provocative element to “Scuby-Ruby” as well--note the apparent sample of a sneeze! While “Scuby-Ruby” combines sampling with a fairly accessible, bouncy melody, there are some less friendly sample-heavy tracks, such as the album’s opener and title track.
Music: “Signals From Afar”
I’m not sure whether the title of “Signals From Afar” had been decided upon back in the 1980s, or was assigned to it in the 2010s with a knowing note of irony, but either way, I quite like it. Regardless, the track of the same name is a satisfying combination of the sample-oriented structure of “Scuby-Ruby” and the melancholia of “Turn Time Away.” Unlike the more quotidian sounds of “Scuby-Ruby,” the title track prominently features samples of Franklin Delano Roosevelt denouncing war. Framed between two major instances of sampling, the music itself seems to take the form of a kind of broadcast intrusion. Is it a signal emerging from a sea of noise, or an ungainly interruption of the signals of real importance? While it’s subtle in the context of the mix, you can also pick out the use of telegraph sounds at times, adding to the overall theme of telecommunication. Overall, the mood of the title track seems ambiguous, especially compared to the other tracks: the vocals are downbeat, but also somewhat wistful.
The cover of Signals From Afar is ambiguous and open to interpretation as well. It shows a woman operating a telegraph, with half of her face covered ominously in shadow. Her expression seems neutral, or perhaps a bit stiff, but we might read into it a sense of trepidation or seriousness. Might she be delivering bad news to someone, or perhaps receiving it? The pins on her collar seem to suggest she is a member of a military organisation, which could make the significance of her message all the more grave--could she be reporting on the loss of some battle, a terrible massacre, or the threat of an incoming bomb? She is also surrounded by darkness, with no apparent background to speak of--a decision that puts all the more emphasis on her expression, and what it might say about her internality in this critical moment. Tantalizing in its incompleteness and suggestion of a greater narrative, this image deals in similar themes as the album does: communication, technology, and despair.
The Shortwave Mystery were one of many groups who created unrealized music, one of many groups whose works were rediscovered and made available by diligent enthusiasts decades later, and, ultimately, one of many groups who used this period of tremendous archival re-releases to attempt to kickstart a new career. In this case, it was that of Gregory Windrum-Scoggin, who, as far as we know, was the chief creative contributor behind the small “Shortwave Mystery” catalogue. In 2012, he released a new composition: the single “Sarah Good’s Lament,” based on the fate of one of the victims of the infamous Salem “Witch Trials.”
Music: “Sarah Good’s Lament”
Ultimately, though, the cult following of minimal synth caught up with Windrum-Scoggin just a little too late, as he would perish before his time in a tragic motorcycle accident in 2014. What else he might have accomplished, upon re-entry into a brand new musical world, we’ll never know. The label that did the re-mastering and releasing of *Signals From Afar,* and which also published “Sarah Good’s Lament,” was not long for this world either. Unlike many of the labels that started during this era and are still going strong, like Minimal Wave and Dark Entries, the California-based “World Service Collective” appears to be defunct, with its official website cited on Discogs.com apparently up for sale. World Service Collective never released anything else, aside from these scant few items directly pertaining to the Shortwave Mystery. The Roman poet Juvenal famously asked, “who will guard the guards themselves?” The dead end of this sorry tale asks us a similar question about art: When the archivists have gone, who will be left to archive their stories?
To close on a lighter note, my favourite track on Signals From Afar is “Segue.” You might assume that an instrumental track called “Segue” will be nothing more than a seconds-long jingle dividing one major composition from another, but “Segue” is anything but! It’s a well-formed instrumental track, and I think that the instrumental context goes a long way to show off what the Shortwave Mystery really did best: those big, pounding synth arrangements. That’s everything for today, thanks for listening!

reminiscentsky inquired: meta/hcs/drabble request - first I went through your headcanon tag but I didn't manage it til the end yet, so if you already wrote about it then that's completely fine. I will try to send more in the next days. and second, I haven't read the book yet so if anything is described there, my apologies I don't know yet. as for the word request: family, especially family by blood vs found family. UNPROMPTED ASKS | ALWAYS WELCOMED | @reminiscentsky
Tumblr media
Hey there, Lisa! Thank you for sendin’ this in. It’s completely a’ight and I appreciate you reading through the headcanons (There is a lot and I’m really sorry, I just can’t shut up). By all means, anything you can send is great since any theme and word can lead to so many write-ups. Even a simple word like “red” could have several different headcanons, drabbles, and metas written around it for a character. It’s all about how the receiver interprets it–!

Preface: I am going to be generalize “by blood” family to first-determined family. This is directly acknowledging family situations that do not have all blood-relations, but are considered the “first” family the child is conditioned into. After all, Sophie isn’t from a nuclear family situation with a stepmother and half-sister. And also she’s technically the ‘mom’ since she raised Lettie and Martha and even her stepmom acknowledges that, don’t @ me.
FAMILY. Howl’s Moving Castle is a novel following fairy tale tropes and creating subversions, if not adding realistic reactions, for those who live in those tropes would face. While we may find Ingary to be a world that is capable of having so much magic and remarkable things in it from Seven League Boots to Cloaks of Invisibility, it is still very much a world full of monotonous, if not limiting, things that exist and happen.
One of those “monotonous” things happens to be the life of Sophie Hatter. While the book directly states that the evil stepmother trope is not all applicable to the Hatters, and how the evil/ugly stepsisters trope is far from applicable to the older Hatter daughters, there is a very apparent truth about the family arrangement that fits and happens too commonly in our world. At its basis, it is the case of "eldest daughter syndrome” for Sophie.
But, there’s more at the root of Howl’s Moving Castle. This novel explores family structure, family issues, and the impacts of lacking expectations, support, and stability has onto a young woman. (NOTE: I am including neglect and trauma here because of HMC’s implications and how we’re led up to the mindset and rationalizations of beginning Sophie in the novel, which is very unhealthy/concerning). What happens in this situation is the creation of someone who lives a purposeless life and focuses on the lives and successes of those around her to make herself experience something. She isn’t even being at all materialistic about it -- goodness, the woman just WANTS, an innocent desire, and that is something she knows she can’t ever have.
This can also be applicable for Howl, but his version of the story follows the opposite of what Sophie deals with. In his case, he is the youngest son who has been in a world where stability and expectations fell on him (e.g., he is a doctoral student, an uncle, etc.). His structure is intact and pressure is placed on him. Much like Sophie, there is a dread of unfulfillment and desire that he finds in his life, but unlike her, he happens to do something (hence why he is another world rather than Wales -- read into that and interpret that as you will).
Both are in roles that do not satisfy and help realize themselves. Sophie makes her role, which is detrimental to her own emotional and mental development. Howl breaks his role, but makes a role for himself, which still doesn’t make him happy. Because, for both, there are still missing elements they need to discover or realize about themselves -- be it through self-awakening or making bonds.
Family, which can be extended now to society and their norms, is an place of origin for most what most begin their socialization, development, and understanding of who they are in context to the world around them. And, in many cases,  first-made family is not idealistic and is not a healthy environment for growth and discovery. They can be toxic, harmful, and traumatic, purposefully or unknowingly, for the impressionable minds by the adults who are preparing for the “real” world and how these individuals are expected to be and expected to do.
Sophie was prevented to participate in that “real” world because she was, essentially, not given any purpose or anything that made her feel qualified or worth living (originally). Instead, she made herself a role that is participating in her family’s world that she could be accepted in -- one where she had to do everything because no one else would, and also, it was a remedy (albeit a terrible one) to combat what she was feeling on the inside. So much of her upbringing informs us of her character and how she sees herself -- as an unremarkable person with nothing out there for her.
Intentionally or not, as mentioned before, Sophie’s family has taken advantage of this and didn’t raise Sophie to see herself on the same level as her peers (or even help her be aware of her capabilities). Personally, I do view the Hatter’s situation having started as unintentional. However,  it was something comfortable to do (rely on Sophie as if she were an adult) and they continued doing it. More to my characterization, I do believe there IS awareness, hence Martha’s outburst at the beginning of the story -- her opinion on the matter, albeit skewed, still has grounds because she isn’t an outsider. She is someone who was raised and living in the household.
Returning to my point, this buffer is essentially a destruction towards Sophie’s potential and self. It can be seen as both self-destructive by Sophie (she believes the next best course of action is to assure her sisters’ happiness and success) and created by her family (mainly, adults) to benefit what they want.
Despite that, Howl’s Moving Castle knows that one of her greatest gifts is something she already does for a living: creation. Sophie already creates; she always created hats and outfits, being so advanced at her age that she never needed an apprenticeship to hone her skills. Her products are well sought for, even excluding the magic she accidentally imbues in them. But, her power by hands is also her actual magic (not that everything she says comes true/able to create truths/etc.) Particularly, it is the tenacity and choice to create herself to whoever she wants to be and what she can do.
The problem is that her origins made her believe to be herself incapable of anything and that misfortune was her plotted end. There was no point resisting even if she tried to as a child. Yet, it was that moment when disruption came and she found herself being given a chance to leave, she created her own journey. Though, it was originally to get her curse removed and return to her sisters, she took the first step for more.
She ends up finding herself exploring an avenues of herself that are rarely touched upon or even acknowledged by others. That, of course, changes when in contact with Calcifer, Michael, and Howl. While she might’ve crashed into the castle, dubbed herself the ‘help,’  it was the beginning of her creating herself in a place where she wasn’t restricted or made to believe poorly on herself.
In the end, she made her family. A family that she knows that is a group of those who are as out of place in this world (or the other world) because of matters out of their control. She makes a family when she decides that she could live happily ever after, a complete contrast to what she originally believed herself for. This family, now different from the one before, is the start of being her feeling found, but also continuing her self-discovery.

And, Sophie Hatter could not be any happier creating her new life.

Warning: This post contains yandere themes, abusive relationships, and the characters display other behaviours that can be triggering or uncomfortable to read. This is not for the light-hearted so read at your own risk. I do not believe any of the mentioned members would display any sort of this behaviour in real life and I do not condone this behaviour either. This work is purely fictional.
A/N: hello, I sort of used your prompt as a loose guideline. I tried to stick to what you asked for but some scenarios differ slightly from specific details of the request just because I think its good to have this scenario lead to various endings through different choices. Nonetheless, I hope you like it!
Jimin
It began with pleas.
“[Name] please, just listen to me,” Jimin begged, and he forcefully cornered you to the quieter side of the bar. He calculatedly situated you in between his body, and the wall to make sure you would not be able to get away.
He hovered over you threateningly, and it was a position you had long forgotten. However, just like unclean wounds that heal on the surface but deteriorate once they get exposed to the right stimulus once more, Jimin had returned in your life as the infection that would worsen the damage. The scars he left behind had not healed and now, would never heal because he was ready to inject the sick in you once again.
His touch lacked warmth and felt utterly icy – it was like sleeping with someone with hypothermia – he was going to steal your warmth for himself and then leave you shivering with his own coldness.
The long forgotten memory of his hurt had remained ingrained in your muscle memory. This was because you instinctively flinched as he grabbed your face with both of his hands firmly, and made you look up into his eyes.
Pathetic and utter desperation clinging onto the last remains of his sanity was strangely lustrous in his eyes.
“Baby, you haven’t been replying to my messages… That’s… You know I don’t like that,” He started, and as he spoke, his voice gradually lowered and his eyes narrowed into a glare. Momentarily, he ended up applying a bit more pressure on your face, and you visibly winced. Immediately,  Jimin eased the amount of force he was applying on your face that could have potentially injured you.
“I, I’m a better person now so I’ll look over that this once. But I-I’m here because I’m ready to settle down with you now. I’m a changed man now I-I swear! I won’t exploit your trust ever again and I’m ready to commit myself. So, you’ll give me another chance won’t you [Name]?” He stammered, and although he was not gripping your face like a tyrant anymore, there was a dangerous glint of the devil etched in his eyes.
You shook your head.
“Doesn’t matter what promises you make now Jimin, it doesn’t change the toxicity and hurt you left me with. I– I can’t trust you, not after you cheated on me–”
“I only did that because I loved you too much! Because I was scared that you were so good for me
and that I was going to lose you!” He proclaimed, and in response, you scoffed. Fear forgotten, and with a new burning fire in your heart, you shoved Jimin off you.
“Go take that bullshit to someone else who’s stupid enough to believe you!” You snapped, and turned to walk away. However, Jimin grabbed you by the arm, and roughly pulled you back to him. With his warm breath fanning your ear – it was the warmth that he had started to seep off you without your realisation until this very moment when the cold shivers prickled your skin – his whispered threats killed the newfound determination you thought you had discovered within.
“I warned you I would only overlook you ignoring me that once. Do it again, or disobey me again, and I’ll upload your private little recorded videos from when we used to be together online.”

(Taehyung and Jungkook under the cut!)
Taehyung
The air in the atmosphere was tense, and the fact that Taehyung’ was close to reaching his breaking point, was evident in the way his irises were empty of emotions.
What was supposed to be a night of fun, something that would help you destress from all of the other ongoing stress in your life, had turned out to be the opposite; the situation was dire, and its’ twisted plot had just manifested the distress you wanted to get rid off in the first place.
“You thought I was just a fling?” He asked, and the way he spoke it was posed like a usual question, but you knew better. Beneath his seemingly calm state, there was a volcanic fury on the edge of bursting. The lack of emotion in his voice – a rare phenomena for Taehyung, made you gulp in nervousness. And this nervousness only manifested when you abruptly became aware of the fact that you were having this conversation while you were bare.
Feeling conscious about the physical aspect of your nakedness was never a problem with Taehyung. With his guaranteed experience that came hand-in-hand with his reputation of being a playboy, it never left any room for dissatisfaction. But much more than that, unlike with anyone else you had ever been with, he always took his time to appreciate – almost worship each aspect of your body. The concept of insecurity was nothing but a fleeting dream in the moments you were involved intimately with him. However, that was not the case right now. So, you could not help but pull the sheets around you closer to yourself, hoping they would provide you with some sort of comforting security.
“I– You can’t blame me for that can you? With your reputation, how am I supposed to think of this as anything else other than a fling?!” You responded, and the unintentional accusatory tone in your voice, caused Taehyung’s fingers to twitch in anticipation.
He really hoped you wouldn’t test his self-control again because he could only hold himself back for so long.
“I told you I loved you, and you said it back.”
“I– I thought it was an on the spur of the moment kind of thing,” You admitted sheepishly, and then all Taehyung started to see in that moment was red.
However, before he did something that would have worsened the situation for you or even himself, it was fortunate presently that you were willingly and had decided to speak just in the nick of time.
“I’m not opposed to becoming serious but I– honestly, I still have my doubts so if you’re willing to prove your loyalty and give me the time I need then we can try,” You offered honestly. Although, your suggestion was not his optimum response, it was better than what you said to Jimin in another alternative universe.
So, knowing that the situation could be better, but also could be worse, Taehyung decided this was okay… For now. In due time, once he proved himself to you, you were going to give him all of you, and nothing less.
He gave a smile that was strained ever so slightly.
“Sure, I’ll wait for you and do whatever it takes to gain your trust. I hope you willingly put the same effort that I do too.”

Jungkook
“You don’t really think you can leave without my permission, do you? Tell me you aren’t that stupid [Name],” Jungkook said, sighing. Then, he rubbed his temples as if to say that dealing with your shenanigans again was a headaching chore to deal with.
You bit your lip and shifted your gaze to the ground. The small packed bag you held in your hands that consisted of your necessities, was close to slipping out of your grip because your arms were trembling. Whether this was due to sorrow, fear, or both – you did not know.
“I, I don’t want to be with you anymore Jungkook. I can’t be with you! No matter how much I try to move on from what happened, I just, I can’t deal with it, it’s not healthy for me. You’re not healthy for me. P-Please just let me leave,” You pleaded, and the amount of unease you felt while pleading this, made you feel queasy.
Jungkook raised an eyebrow and scrutinized you with a  judgemental stare, before he scoffed at you.
“How many times have we done this now? This is the third time you’ve brought it up. I told you I’m sorry for sleeping with others behind your back, and I promise I won’t do it again. What else do you want me to do?! I can’t go back in time and change the past. Get over it already,” He snapped, and you winced at the harsh loudness of his voice.
“Why are you so awful–” You started, but Jungkook cut you off.
“Why are you always nagging me about this? Did you ever stop to think that I slept with others out of my respect for your wishes?! You were the one who wanted to wait for your first time, so I respected your wishes and gave you the time until you were ready and fulfilled my own needs with someone else. And it meant nothing! Each time I slept with someone else it was always you I imagined, and after you became ready to sleep with me, I became ready to settle down with  you,” Jungkook stated, and to him, what he said made perfect sense. He could not understand why you kept on bringing this up and not understand it by now.
And he was right in the way that you truly did not understand the logic behind his absurd reasoning. If anything, his logic left you feeling completely flabbergasted. The fact that he did not see anything wrong with his actions, and simply apologised for the sake of apologising and did not mean a word of it, repulsed you so much that you lost your touch with reality and were unable to grasp it.
Seeing the frozen look on your face prompted a sigh out of Jungkook, as he walked towards you. He grabbed your bag out of your hands with one hand, and one of your now free hands with his other.
He guided you back into your shared abode, reminding himself to arrange something that would prevent your attempts of escape permanently.
“It’s late at night, let’s sleep on this and talk about it tomorrow,” He said.
Jungkook decided he either had to lock you up so you could not  get access to your belongings or any money to escape in the first place. Or he would need to induce memory loss to make you forget about the whole sleeping thing so you would stop bringing it up and live together with him in peace.
