At long last, I have found a desk that satisifies my seemingly-simple-yet-somehow-actually-impossibly-arcane demands. It's a close cousin to the desk I left behind before moving to Scotland, minus that desk's ~200lb slate top (which is why I rejected the possibility of shipping it here). After 12 years without a desk, I'm looking forward to putting things in drawers & pulling out those little slab shelves.

Its top is also nicely aged/dinged up & I will enjoy running my hands over it -- see below:

It's going to be a tight squeeze to get it into the room where I plan to use it, so let's hope I can channel my crafty-furniture-mover persona (or that the top comes off easily).

#I do not know what is up with current desk trends #everything is either scaffolding wood badly stained & somehow steampunked with pipes #or like a flimsy-looking door on hairpin legs #occasionally you can find something attractive but then of course the price is ludicrous #and even on an expensive desk #something has happened where no one seems to want drawers #drawers are key to the desk experience for me #that's ~40% of the reason to have a desk #anyhow I think this desk & I will be happy together #although now I have to find a CHAIR for fuck's sake #let's hope that doesn't take another 12 years #every chair I've liked costs more than the desk did #so we're not off to a great start

i understand that some drawing tablets do have different qualities like the amt of pressure levels they support but its soooo crazy how people still think that graphic tablets are a stepping stone to screen tablets, which are the "Goal"

I went looking for some info about my current tablet and if i needed to update anything to solve a small issue and found a thread asking about it with answers like "ehh its good for an art beginner but you'll be wanting to upgrade in a few months" like? says who.

#i love my tiny screenless tablet that fits perfectly on my desk why would i want something bigger and with a screen. LOL #bigger *AND more expensive. ITS THE SAME THING!!!!#sorry but this is my equivalent of brushes dont matter (even tho brushes do matter) (but this doesnt)#(in the way that you can make the same work on any tablet *of category u enjoy.)#like i can never be comfortable with screen tablets and some ppl cant get used to graphic ones thats fine #but so weird to imply that improving skill means u need to upgrade to the screen ones....hell no why would that Matter

I find it really funny that in-universe, everyone rags on Valkyrie for having the expensive stage sets when Alkaloid and Knights got whole-ass castles for Vermilion and Little Romance.

Edit: Vermillion's castle is technologically produced, though I believe Knight's real. Even so, I think every unit drives up the budget with their productions to some extent (Falling Love It's Wonderland, Sweet 2wink Love Letter, etc), though Valk is def most guilty haha 😂

theoretically I could get into wall shelves etc but I get really paranoid about hanging things. I know that shit’s gonna fall and land on my head somehow or I’ll get distracted and bonk my head on it or I’ll trip and crash into it. I don’t really hang things up unless I’m sure that 1) it won’t break if it falls (or if it breaks I wouldn’t be too devastated), it’s not hung somewhere it can fall on me, 3) it’s not hung somewhere it can fall on breakable things I like. I have my himerita mini-shrine hung up and sometimes the teens next door get rowdy enough that little plushie rita falls…

ok change of plans. got a pair of crushed velvet wide leg hot fuchsia pants in the mail yesterday that i'd ordered off depop and despaired of getting in time that actually fit fantastically (slightly too big in the waist but nbd) but are too long so i'm biting the bullet and scheduling sewing studio time at my old job (fabric & yarn store) so i can hem them myself and we're scrapping the black sparkly pants idea. the rest of my sequin appliques for my jacket are also supposed to come in the mail today so i booked extra time on the machines so i can hopefully get some of those nailed down which will save me SO much time from hand sewing. plus i'll have hot irons and big tables and feedback from my old coworkers who will tell me if there's any easy way i can bring in the waist on the pants without ruining my life and might let me use the huge back studio by myself if i ask nice. also there's sergers there. TOMORROW!

#i feel really good about this i'm glad i'm doing it this way #i'd thought about it earlier but thought it would be too much hassle to have to go there and do things and pay money #but it will really save me so much time to use a machine. and not work on my tiny desk #if i really want to i can also buy iron-on backing and just iron on the appliques while i'm there with their irons #it'll really just make so much of this so much easier. and it's not even that expensive. AND i have store credit #so really it's free.#chatpost #i'm actually amazed how well the pants fit btw bc it's a brand i've never tried before and somehow they're almost perfect #obviously way too long bc i'm short but i'm very impressed how high the waist is bc usually i like extra high & these are. nice #and even if in the end i decide to do the black pants i'll have these for something else later. they're very cool

niche thing i've been seething about recently is why are flats always structured with nuclear families and absolutely no other constellation of people in mind? maybe i want the three bedrooms in my three bedroom flat where i live with my chosen family to be all the same size. but noooo you've got to have a living room (big), parents' bedroom (medium), and kid's room (small). everytime I think the adhd might not be real that I might be twisting myself into these shapes to fit a diagnosis, I then find myself obsessively going through every website that has storage options that are available locally, or deliverable within a decent time frame, only to become frustrated the point of insanity when there is the tiniest of roadblocks

#the idea of waiting for things to come back in stock is absolutely setting my brain on fire #but I don't want any of the options that are local #because they don't fit the exact idea in my head #or worse they're actually more expensive even accounting for delivery #but the idea of rearranging my craftroom has taken hold of my brain to the point i'm dreaming about it #drawing plans on random pieces of paper or in procreate #and that doesn't even account for the fact that it's on repeat in my head any time I'm a little bit idle #all of this because the closest ikea to me is out of stock of the weirdest things #desk legs are out of stock #the bookshelves I want are out of stock and won't be back in a month #I don't even have the money for this yet and I'm frustrated I can't buy it now #i don't even know how I'm getting it here yet #let alone how I'm getting them up 3 flights of stairs #the actual cheapest option is to buy extensions for the ivar set I have and expand that #but I need two separate desks #and expanding the ivar would cut off one wall and make adding the two desks difficult #my brain is just being mean
