Unessential details about the original AF mesh for those who have time to read my rambles:

• I don't know where it's from (just the shoes are Semller's Adidas Superstar sneakers) but I don't think that mesh was made specifically for these recolors because the waist didn't match the Maxis AF waist. I believe it was meant as a single-piece dress. I made the executive decision to edit it to match the AF waist exactly, to better suit the bare mid-section we have going on here. • Again, I don't know who made this mesh, but for some reason, there are full feet inside the shoes (maybe the delete key wasn’t working that day idk) and it's all merged in a single near-inextricable group. You can't see it at all in game. Obviously I did try to shoeswap with clean Adidas Superstars but the mapping didn’t match at all, maybe these shoes have been converted twice with different mappings, idk I gave up. But the presence of those feet that I did not hate myself enough today to try and delete vertice by vertice means that the polycount is a bit inflated compared to how it should be ideally, nothing major though. • As I said, for some reason everything is merged in a single group, which may explain the sneakers' mapping (they had to fit somehow). But even if the sneakers did roughly fit, they still bled onto the fingers a little, and more egregiously for the weed recolor only, bled along a leg (that recolor cannot have been tested like what are we doing). I deleted those extra bits of textures so that won't be an issue anymore. • The skirt would clip with the back of the thighs during the walking animation, that's now fixed.

the problem w the menagerie is that the big twist is "she's ugly so she can't live among her own kind." as if folks aren't more enlightened than that in the 2200s, as if they don't have reconstructive surgery. and when pike is disabled for the rest of his life, the only woman who could possibly love him now is the woman so ugly she can't show her face outside. most of the sexism in tos doesn't bother me because it's so antiquated and silly but this one really gets under my skin. it's so boring and predictable too! the only fun part is spock doing the mutiny.

i can definitely see that being your issue with it.

i didn’t really think the most important part of that ‘twist’ was that Vina was ugly, (obviously that was an important part as they were writing, they did choose to emphasize it, and i do have issues with that).

i assumed her being with the Talosians had more to do with pain management and the fact that she hadn’t know anything else for so long. she was disabled by the crash, the damage was made worse by the Talosians attempts to ‘fix’ her. to me, this reveal seemed like it was mostly meant to draw the parallel between her and Pike. her reason for staying with the talosians was the same reason Spock was bringing Pike to stay with them, to give them freedom.

I mean, Pike is also shown to be physically disabled, we know that not every disability can be ‘fixed’ even that far in the future, even if she could get plastic surgery i don’t think we can assume that she could be entirely ’fixed’ by modern medicine when we see in the same episode that Pike clearly can’t.

no one assumes that Pikes reasoning for staying on Talos IV includes not wanting to be ‘ugly’, no he does it so that he has freedom to use his body and voice as he pleases, to me the episode showed that Vina had very similar reasons. it’s safe to assume that she lives in pain due to her disability, seeing as the Talosians had no reference for rebuilding her. Again, we have no reason to believe that anyone else anywhere else would be able to repair the damages made by the Talosians.

also not sure this is the most important part but i kinda thought they really liked each other, i didn’t see it as ‘she’s the only one that could love him’ and more that this outcome would have come eventually no matter what, whether he was disabled in the line of duty or not, he would have returned to her (ik they didn’t really say that it’s just how i saw it)

i see Vina as having a multitude of valid reasons to live with the Talosians (even if one of her reasons if wanting physical beauty, i don’t see an issue with that) , and obviously this mostly comes from my own interpretations and assumptions, but i just think that while the episode definitely reveals it’s age with some of the dialogue (and just how much they focused on her appearance), it still translates well to modern viewers if you read a little deeper into it.

that being said, i 100% agree though that Spock’s mutiny is the best part of the episode

Saw Harley and Ivy Barbies and thought "They're not too bad, but Ivy's outfit is terrible" and that's my full thoughts on it while my doll friends sit down and have a deep discussion about how and why they're terrible.

Green Barbies are getting easier to find with Elphaba, Vina, and Ivy. I want more other colors. The fairies had pink, purple, and blue. I wouldn't mind more purple and blue and a light green and ye... yellow might be pushing it unless she's Spongebob yellow and the pink fairy basically looked normal, and orange is just the 80's Barbies again, but you get me.

They have fairytopia and mermaids, why not fantasy skin tones?

Talked to a friend and he mentioned that he isn't sure if he's masking so hard that his mask is himself, now, or if he was faking being ND as a child and I was like love, that's a thing so many of my ND friends have gone through.

I'm going through the same thing right now with this job.

All these years have been like "I can't do this much physical activity because it will hurt me more than the activity is worth" and here I am walking 3+ miles every day, standing on my feet for hours, bending, lifting heavy stuff, and I'm fine. I've just been lazy and refusing to do hard work this whole time.

I say, while having obvious, glaring moments of brain fog (I'll break down Monday's chaos under a cut) and confusion while on the register, forgetting what I'm doing while I'm doing it, being so tired and sore that hobbling home takes more-than-twice as long as walking to work, falling asleep while eating, having to push myself very hard to get chores done when I'm home especially the ones that require going up and down the stairs, and being in so much pain at home that I'm barely mobile...

So Monday, a guy comes in and buys gas at the register. There's a slight price break if you pay inside, for some reason, and I'd rather it was card at the pump only but that's neither here nor there. Sometimes the card readers on the pumps hiccup and people come inside instead of fighting with them, too.

He tells me his pump number, I take the payment, he goes back out.

He comes in a little later and says there's no money on his pump. I knew the payment took and was like "Ok, I'll put $30 on the pump you're on as cash and you're good to go."

Which doesn't make sense. In hindsight, that made no sense what-so-ever. I don't know why I thought that was a solution to the problem. It made sense at the time but as soon as he walked out the door I was like "Wait... What did I just do??"

Some back and forth and we discover that he told me the wrong pump and the lady at the pump number he gave me had put in her card like normal and pumped gas not noticing the money already on there, but that was HIS money.

I couldn't figure out how to refund the man's payment to her pump and take payment from her so we could reset everything, and that didn't fix the $30 cash charge that wasn't in the register because I didn't take cash from him, I just told the register that I did.

So I had to grab Alt-Manager, tell her what happened, and after SHE tried to refund the wrong-pump card payment so we could charge both customers correctly and couldn't she asked the woman if she had any cash. The woman had a $50, so the manager broke her $50, gave the man what he was owed for the woman's gas (the woman was like "that's for me!" but no, it was for the man) and the remainder to the woman.

We charged the man again for HIS gas, which he had already taken from the pump so we had to charge him for random groceries, and they both walked out.

Then I was like "Wait, I think this means the woman didn't pay for any gas."

Which Alt-Manager was like "Oh no..... I think you're right...."

She had to go call Manager who somehow understood what had happened and broke it down for both of us, while both of us were like "what...." but.

The man will have 2 charges on his CC: Her gas and his gas. The gas station gets both. The woman paid the man in cash for her gas. Manager "refunded" the $30 in cash I'd told the register it had to zero that out.

In the end it was all square, but it was so confusing at the time.

It would have been better to refund the man the cost of the woman's gas in groceries in cash and then recharge him for his correct pump and then charge the woman in groceries for how much she was owed, but I didn't know that was an option. To refund as groceries when the issue was gas. Though doing that may have messed up the drawer count, too, because that cash was never put in the drawer in the first place, so doing it the way she did was the best way to keep the drawer count right.

Anyway, Manager is very good at understanding and managing the money side of things and being firm with vendors, customers, and employees, but bad at time management and has unrealistic expectations regarding how long it takes to complete tasks, especially when also expected to run back to the register every few moments, whereas Alt-Manager is good at the money side but a little easy to influence/push around, and very good at time management making sure that everyone is in and out at the correct time and will jump out to take the register about 5 minutes before it's time to go so employees can count their drawer and do their dishes, etc.

the event was the one where you go pay tribute to the previous monarchs at the mausoleum, where you go with vina to see lena's tomb first and then with your mom to see your father's. and i swear i was doing a good job of keeping it all together, but one thing led to another and then we started fighting (which i thought was a fun option, roleplaying wise. like yeah, you would be a little bit on edge and maybe lash out at your mother, you're still her son). but i thought they were just gonna be like 'ok we'll continue this some other time, let's go do the ceremony now like grown ups', but NOPE, the scene ended and the paper was like 'KING ROMUS STORMS OUT THE CEREMONY IS CANCELLED' and i'm like WELP.

Episode 10! This one took me a while. I got distracted by all sorts of things. The stage mechanic is a pain in the butt!! Even having had pre-prep with it from CC events, it is depressingly common for the artillery to switch targeting at the last minute because you missed one enemy in the pile of guys coming at you.

This little scrimblo is the face of evil. Cause of many leaks. If you're kind of sleepy or out of it or tired after a long day of work the Second Defense Artillery mechanic turns into a slot machine that sometimes just kills your clear for no apparent reason (you forgot that this character had 1 higher block than this other one) Story thoughts and unmarked spoilers after the cut!

I'm slow to get to Act 2 of the Arknights story. Over the time I've seen people in various fan communities talk about how they don't like it, how it feels slow to them, or how they think all the Sarkaz are irredeemable bastards. Well now with episode 10 I'm into it proper and while I see the complaints I like the story! I like reading academic works about military history and the history of genocides now and again, so, I'm definitely not the 'normal' audience. But the Kazdel Military Comission is very familiar and 'realistic'.

Theresis and his bros. There's not many...

First off it doesn't have the support of all, or even necessarily most Sarkaz. There's the Confessarius, a small secretive organization that's hung around the crown like ivy; the Sanguinarch of Vampires and the Nachzehrer king, two absolute freak monsters; the Damazti Cluster, who's just One Slime. Certainly Theresis has a lot of soldiers; but of the political leaders that make up Sarkaz politics, he essentially has the trust only of the most violently extreme half of things. Theresis's plan seems to be to simultaneously wage war on the nations of Terra, to restore Sarkaz glory or at least give teeth to their anger at constantly being persecuted. And man I don't think that's gonna work out very well for you! But the nature of the KMC and its job brutally occupying Londinium will drive away any moderates on its own. The KMC is radicalizing itself, from an attempt at governing Kazdel to what is functionally a murder cult, focused on just killing the highest number of non-sarkaz possible. It's not a happy story! And not one that, I think, is going to be 'fixed' by Amiya doing some cool sword magic. Victoria is on a fast track to becoming a failed state, and that's not going to be good for anyone around. Character thoughts! Blunted by having taken months and months to finish this. -Misery, it's cool to see another RI elite and this one's kinda, shifty? Behavior, is fun. Not a pillar of gung-ho courage, but he Gets The Job Done. -Mandragora, poor little meowmew. I do wonder if she'll turn out to have survived, I do feel some sympathy for her after the chapter was her getting kicked in the face repeatedly as everything goes wrong and her one friend dies -Manfred, this is the kinda guy who goes on trial at the Hague, but he's actually trying to like, run a country, so he ends up being one of the more reasonable KMC people. Yikes! -Damazti was very fun, their curiosity in meeting the Eartha crew is neat. Look forward to seeing more of the tricky slime. Closure is a great addition to this chapter, because you have the KMC and all the problems Sarkaz are causing and then RI sends in their Sarkaz and she looks like this:

How could anyone hate that face. Rita is another favorite from this chapter because she is just Not Having A Good Time, and it seems to only be getting worse. Is she coping healthily? Not really!

I think the Glasgow gang wasn't much of a draw. They're dancing around it, but it doesn't really seem like Vina wants to go kickstart the Victorian monarchy again, nor does the game seem to think that would fix things. So they end up kind of spinning their wheels, as the lion gets poked and prodded towards a thing she doesn't want to do.

Favorite canon thing about this character?

In terms of TOS, people say she’s unemotional — and I get that was the intent — but I actually love her emotion. I love how Chris reacts to her disappointment at being left off the landing party. I love her light sarcasm and irritation as she does the math on Vina��s real age. I love her defiance and general “do not fuck with me” energy as she sets her laser pistol to overload. She’s emotional while also being rational and smart. Absolutely brilliant.

In terms of Disco, I love how Una knows things she shouldn’t, how people owe her favors, how Chris trusts her to use her own methods to uncover the information they want. I love how she can predict what Chris is going to say and that she’s ready and adaptable for stuff because space is weird, man.

In terms of Short Treks, I love that she programmed the food synthesizers on Enterprise. Chris feeds the crew in his way and Una feeds the crew in hers.

In terms of Strange New Worlds, I love her longstanding friendships with Chris and La’an. I also keep friends for a long time, and it’s nice to see a character with that trait. I also like that she’s gained some level of acceptance for who she is, even though she shouldn’t have had to fight that fight.

If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

Despite the listing above, plus reams of beta canon, I definitely have additions! I wish she had been in more of TOS, of course, and I also think she should have been in AOS … depending on what they would have done to her. (My trust isn’t the highest on that.)

A relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

I admire how Una made clear her regrets and her willingness to do what she could to mend things in terms of her relationship with Neera. It’s complicated because their culture is alien and Una both benefitted from and was hurt by the hiding her parents chose to begin … but sometimes feelings need to come out so truth can be ascertained. And I really, really admire how Neera and Una both began to unpack feelings and truth to find their way back to some form of a positive relationship with each other.

If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

Oh, man. I just checked and I have 26 fics for which Una is a tagged character. So, yeah, I love her, your honor. I suppose my favorite thing to do is to just let that love (hopefully) shine through. She’s flawed, as we all are. She’s also smart and loyal and strong and sassy … and fun to explore from a characterization standpoint. I wrote one fic in which she didn’t make a pass at Chris years before because she assumed he wouldn’t be good in bed, and he is kind of repressed so they’ll work on that. In my current WIP, Una is reasonably sure physical compatibility won’t be a problem with Chris but this time she’s the one who’s repressed — emotionally — from keeping her secrets for so long, so she and Chris need to fix that up. Flipping around inverse possibilities for different fics can be fun.

Something I don’t like? Ten episodes a season.

just started watching star trek TOS(or maybe remastered, honestly can't tell) on Paramount+ and I figured I'd start posting about it as I write

EP 1: The Cage

not even at the episode yet, why does it have a guest star? This is the first episode, shouldn't this be establishing the main characters? Or does guest star in this case just mean a secondary main character? I don't watch much TV so I'm genuinely unsure

I vaguely remember @etherealspacejelly(who is also the reason I'm watching this) mentioning that in the strange, exotic land of the UK they call jello jelly, so considering how wobbly space just got I think they might be in this episode.

two things. First, they have a very strange alarm sound. Second, how the fuck do they know it's coming if it's at the speed of light? That is the fastest speed information can travel? Is the spaceship fucking psychic?

I assumed after a moment they'd start to do something, considering a USFO(Unidentified Space Faring Object) is on course to collide with their ship at light speed, but no, they're just sitting there calmly

I'm guessing the captain(I wanna say Captain Kirk but they haven't mentioned his name and IDK for sure if he was captain from the start or if there was a different captian at first) said "steady as we go" because he has some badass plan but he really seems like he just doesn't care about this USFO

Nobody seems to trust him, so I'm guessing he's a new captain

They didn't realise it was a radio wave? That's what it was? Why is their security system advanced enough to see the future but not advanced enough to tell the difference between an attack and an old-timey distress signal? Or do they not use them anymore specifically because they couldn't make security systems to identify them from a distance?

Wait... they just sent one ship to the Talos group and then gave up when it dissappeared? No rescue group or second attempt or anything?

Why are there people in normal fucking clothes on the ship? Has clothing and fashion not changed at all in like 200 fucking years? Even after we were introduced to cultures from other planets? Did they all just already have the same fashion as us?

I'm starting to understand why he's treated the way he is by the fandom. Not even 5 minutes in and he's in a french girl pose. And the doctor looks so fucking done with him too, I can tell he poses like this every time(also I know all of this is probably normal TV stuff, but I'm trying to be entertaining, and I'm not very good at recognizing emotions)

So it is Spock, and there are survivors, meaning we're probably going to Talos. Also why do new viewers learn Spocks name before the captains?

His smile is soft, sitting beside her as his arm drapes over her shoulders. They had gotten closer since she moved here, some moments awkward compared to others but in the end it had brought them here. It had made them closer. He can't help but pull her to him, just bringing her a bit closer in the process as they sat together. The movie on the tv in front of them is nothing but background noise at this point. At least to him. "So you don't want to be alone." He says, looking down at her as blue eyes meet her gaze while she looks up at him. "But you only want that to be with me?" He asks, his eyes never leaving her's as he speaks with the smile remaining.

Kolvina doesn't work for me because I don't see Kol as a type of guy "falling in love with a sweet innocent good girl who sees good in him or changes him for better". He doesn't care about what people see or think of him (although what his siblings' opinion about him did affect him in some ways). He wouldn't change his behaviors or who he is to be convenient for other people, to get on someone's good side. Because if he could just do that because of the power of love, he would have been fit in a lot better with his family, which was what he had been desperate to be for 1000 years.

While I don't believe that Kol is an unredeemable selfish heartless monster that people make him out to be, and he's not a born sociopath who can't feel a drop of emphathy; he embraces darkness, he's self aware and he never showed no shame for who he truly is or what he has done. Kol is very different from his brothers; and no, he's not better than them, but he has a very different view about the world and how things go. That's why he had hard times going along with his family even though he loves them more than anything in the world, he barely could tolerate their BS or their idea about family. So I cannot wrap the idea of him falling to the same "she's too good for me" love cliche like his brothers.

I also don't think this ship was reasonable, and yes, Kol needed love, but I think if his family would show a little bit of sympathy, that would be enough for him? Never thought that Kol is better or worse than his siblings, but you are very right here, his thinking and inner philosophy is different than theirs. You highlighted right part of it, Kol is not the one who will become goodie for a girl.

I think maximum we could get is him being a bit less reckless about killing, but if the girl he supposedly loves is changing his core personality? No way in hell this "redemption" would have worked for the Kol we knew before D*vina phase. The person that limits his freedom and wants him to be absolutely different person... Well, I don't think Kol would tolerate that even if he would be madly in love with a girl.

Kol never will be the saint, he does not care much for people, only for a limited number of them, and yes, he can show sympathy sometimes, he is not complete evil, ofc, but at least has grey sense of morality. If they wanted to make him better, they might have involved his family. I think Kol would have slightly restricted himself for Bekah, for example, or for Hope, because he has soft spot for his little sister and for his niece (and we might have seen so much of uncle-niece interactions if only the writers would let us).

There are few types of romance that might have worked for Kol as a character, but none of them would involve the girl being so good and pure that he would transform himself into what we have witnessed in the ending of TO. If anything, he might have make the girl worse.

This was their one and only chance. They had fought for every inch they pushed out of the depths of Watchtower, every obstacle surpassed filling their hearts with a little bit more hope and fueling their desire to succeed, to finally set themselves free.

Security was no match for the prototype, but arguably they didn't have to be. Their objective was simply to stall long enough, to hold the line for just long enough that their lab rats wouldn't notice how they had been all led exactly where they needed to be, puppeteered all along. For a few moments that seemed to last an eternity, all hell broke loose when they breached the main hall. The elevator leading outside was right there. If only they could make it.

Mal knew this would result in some bloodshed, but he couldn't have predicted the amount of destruction this little whimsical experiment of his would yield. The weapons load is putting such a massive strain on Dog's mind it's completely out of control, shredding through allies just as indiscriminately as it does enemies. It struggles harder when they finally get to Vina. Mal can see tears sliding across its face, and a sick sense of amusement bubbles up inside him.

That's actually something that I stopped to think about now - what do I imagine Brazil to sound like? She definetely doesn't have my accent/dicalect because of the afformentioned Southerness, but I don't think she has the dialect of Brasília either. Brazil was born in Salvador but it was so long ago that she wouldn't have the dialect of (modern) Bahia either. So I think that she does that classic thing of borrowing from all over the country, but since our most popular media and cultural influences tend to come from São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, she would mostly take their mannerisms.

But my silly Brazilian addition is that she says vina instead of salsicha. Because it's amusing that Curitibanos call a sausage vina just because they couldn't say wienerwurst when Germans started imigrating there.
