——— [ ☆ ] ———
" Ever since I could remember Everything inside of me Just wanted to fit in "
A young, raven haired boy sat by the stream, back against a large tree with a book on his lap. His green eyes traveled over to the group of people playfully fighting. 'Silly oafs', he scoffed. Obviously he couldn't be bothered to go over to his brother and play with his friends. They'd only tease him for being small, short and weak. 'Who needs friends when I have this book?" Surely his book about ancient magic was far more interesting than a game of tug-of-war, right?
" I was never one for pretenders Everything I tried to be Just wouldn't settle in "
As Loki grew into a teenager, he felt that no matter what he did, he'd always be second to Thor in his fathers eyes. So, he did everything he could to prove his worth. He always had been rather close to Frigga and decided to take her help in impressing the All-Father. Day and night he trained with her, mastering spell after spell, to prove himself. It broke her heart to watch him exert himself for his father. Frigga repeatedly reminded him that he was perfect in every way and didn't need to prove himself, he could be himself around her. But Loki was adamant.
One day, Frigga taught him to perform a particularly tricky spell. The spell, when cast properly, could speed up the growing process of a plant, allowing a bud to bloom into a flower. Loki felt that this could be something that Odin would love to see. He practiced it relentlessly, not wanting to mess up in front of Odin.
One fine evening, when she felt that he had mastered the spell, Frigga invited Odin over to the garden to exhibit Loki's progress. Upon hearing that Loki would be performing a magic trick, Thor, Lady Sif and the Warriors Three also gathered into the palace garden. Fighting the jitters, Loki stepped to the tiny plant he had planted and extended his hand, green wisps of magic curling around the plant. The plant grew taller and sprouted a bud. Thinking that he was doing good, Loki channeled more magic into the plant to make it bloom. The bud slowly opened up to reveal a pretty yellow flower. Odin felt a bit proud at the sight and let a small smile grace his face. Momentarily. For, as soon as the flower bloomed, Loki lost control of his magic and the flower wilted, leaving behind its black remains, infecting the entire section of carnations. Frigga had to intervene before the entire garden wilted. Odin stared the young prince, disappointment evident in his eye as walked away.
Loki felt the horrified stares of Thor and his friends. He could deal with those oafs later. What mattered the most at that point was, What did mother think? Was she also disappointed that I was not Thor?
" If I told you what I was Would you turn your back on me? And if I seem dangerous Would you be scared? "
At the time of Thor's coronation, Loki felt absolutely broken. He had been lied to about everything. He felt betrayed, hurt, lost and alone. His world was crashing around him. Touching the casket revealed his past and his true heritage. A heritage which confirmed that he was nothing more than garbage. Staring at the blue skin on his arms, he felt absolutely disgusted in himself.
He was furious that he had been used. That, Odin very well knew he would never surmount to be even half as hood aa Thor and yet fed him false hope. Hope that Loki could someday be Thor's equal in his eye. Odin knew Loki would never be able to be a King. After all, how could a monster be allowed to be at the helm of the nine realms?
He vowed to bring Asguard to its knees, before him, where they rightfully belonged. He wanted to let chaos run wild in the streets of the place he once dared call home.
Asguard was taught that the Jötunns were the devils who waged war. They were the monsters who killed young Asgardians. Looking at his icy blue skin, he though, 'This is the real me. A worthless vermin, whose only purpose in life is to be the bad guy. Odin was right after all. Maybe if I became the monster the people rumored me to be, Id be deemed worthy of the throne at last.'
" I get the feeling just because Everything I touch isn't dark enough If this problem lies in me
I'm only a man with a candle to guide me I'm taking a stand to escape what's inside me A monster, a monster I've turned into a monster A monster, a monster And it keeps getting stronger "
In all his life, all Loki wanted was to be Thor's equal. To be called 'Loki — God of Mischief' not 'Loki — brother of Thor'. He'd do anything to prove himself, but never hurt innocent people. He never truly wanted the throne either, he would've rather been an advisor to Thor, and be beside him as he rules Asgard. In reality, all he wanted was recognition. The Fates granted him his wish in the most cruel way possible.
When he fell into the Void and was captured by Thanos, he initially wished he could go back in time. To Asgard, and stay in his mothers arms. He wished he could take it all back. But as Thanos and the Black Order broke him over and over again, until he had no other choice than to comply to their orders, he wished for death.
Waging war on a Midgard was not something he wanted to do. Ever. But under his control, every last bit of rage he had on Asgard was taken out on that realm. If not for a resilient group of humans, he would have been successful in his endeavour. He would've been a monster he was bred to be.
When the green creature, Hulk, smashed him into the floor of Stark Towers, the harsh blow made Thanos lose momentary control over Loki.
When he turned around, faraway, he saw a woman cradling a limp body, a baby, in her arms.
Maybe he truly was a monster afterall.
" I'm only a man with a candle to guide me I'm taking a stand to escape what's inside me A monster, a monster I've turned into a monster A monster, a monster And it keeps getting stronger "

Thomas x Reader
The Scorch Trials - the first movie is part of the series. Highly suggest reading it first for it to make sense.
Summary: The reader, Thomas, and the remaining Gladers are thrown into the outside world, and quickly have to figure out what life is like outside of the Maze. Thomas, with his memories returning, doesn't know what he should and what he shouldn't tell the reader.

You looked over, hearing water running. You see Thomas standing by the sink. It was oddly comforting knowing you weren't the only one having trouble sleeping.
Tumblr media
You carefully got up, knowing these boys would wake up with noise. You walked over to Thomas, he saw you in the mirror and looked over at you. You smiled slightly.
"Can't sleep?" You ask. He studies you for a second before nodding. "I keep trying to tell myself that it's because we've been through alot, but that doesn't seem to be causing a problem for the others." As if on cue you hear Winston snore. You glance over, chuckling. You smiled at the sight. "We did good, right?"
"What do you mean?" He asks.
"I mean, getting them out of the maze. The amount we have, it's good. Better than nothing, I guess," you say, looking down. Thomas steps a little closer to you.
"Yeah. We did good. I just get a weird feeling about this place," he says. You nod in agreement, looking up at him.
"I do too. I don't know why. I guess we just have to wait, though, right? We'll leave soon," you say. He nods, glancing over at the guys. His zones out, like he's thinking. You tilt your head. "Is everything alright?" You ask. He looks at you and shakes his head.
"I just keep thinking about him," he says. You nod and look down, you knew he meant Chuck.
"I do too." He smiles a little. "What?" You ask.
"You know how I said you were friends with the guys? Before the Maze?" You nod. "You lived in a room kind of like this. With Newt, Minho, Alby, Gally... and Chuck." You straighten up, looking over his face.
"I did?"
"Yeah, you were all like family before the maze even happened. You volunteered to go in first." Your eyes widened. "You knew it was between you and Alby, and you volunteered. They decided on you anyways, but even if they didn't you clearly had your mind set on going in first."
You look down, thinking. "Sounds like me," you mumble. He chuckles quietly. "So, we really knew eachother. You knew us?" You ask. He nods.
"I didn't know you as long before you left, but I'd been friends with the guys for a while."
"But we did know eachother," you say. He studies you for a second before nodding. "Hmm, well, from what you say I haven't changed much. What do you think?" You ask, smiling a little bit. He smiles slightly.
"Your loyalties are in the same place. Your still stubborn. But, yeah, you've changed. I don't really remember every detail from before," he says. You nod, taking in what he says.
"Probably not in a good way, though," you say, nodding your head at him. He rolls his eyes.
"In a good way," he says. You meet his eyes.
"Yeah?" He shifts a little and nods.
"Yeah. We should try to get some sleep," he says. He walks past you, towards the beds. You stayed there for a second, but then went towards your later. You climb up, curling into the blankets. You were happy you could finally sleep in a normal bed.
But that didn't last long. Probably ten minutes later, you heard a squeaking of metal in the room. You sat up, looking around to see where it came from. You heard Thomas move under you, and looked over the edge of the bunk. You raise an eyebrow at him.
"Psst. Hey," you hear, and your head moves. There was a light coming from under Thomas's bed. He glances at you before bending over, looking under the bed. "Shh. Come on, follow me." You carefully swing your feet over, placing your feet on Thomas's bed. You saw him tilt his head. He sat upright, and looked at you.
"The hooded kid from the cafeteria," he whispers. You knit your brows together and glance over at where Winston was sleeping. He shakes his head, getting off the bed, ready to crawl.
"Are you crazy? You're going alone?" You ask. He looks at you.
"Then, come with me," he says. You glare at him, but get off the bed. He crawls in first. The tunnel was tight for him, but not so much for you. Your frame was smaller.
You two continued following the boy, when Thomas decides to finally question the boy.
"Hey, what the hell are you doing?" He asks. The boy glances at you but waves forward.
"C'mon we're gonna miss it," he says. Thomas looks back at you and you shake your head.
"What the hell are we doing?" He asks. You shrug, tapping his leg and pointing, telling him to keep going. He huffs, and keeps crawling.
Eventually he catches up to the boy. "What are we doing here?" He asks. The boy shushes him.
"Come here," he says. Thomas crawls into a slightly bigger tunnel that the boys could crouch down in. Thomas crossed the vent, leaving you next to the boy, and looked down like the boy was. "Watch," he says. You roll your eyes, looking through the vent.
The woman from earlier, Doctor Crawford, walks by. Someone behind her wheeled a cart by. You could see a device showing a human body on it. You knit your brow, and crossed over to be next to Thomas, to get a better look. Crawford opens the door with a keycard and the cart, with a person on it, through the door. You and Thomas exchange a look then look at the boy.
"What the hell was that?" You ask. The boy glances at you.
"They bring in new ones every night like clockwork," the boy says. You tense.
"Clockwork." Thomas looks at you for a second but then looks at the boy again.
"Do you know what they do with them?" He asks.
"No. This is the farthest I've ever gotten. Yhe vents don't go into that section. Once they go through that door, they don'tcome back out," the boy says. You look at him again.
"The kids from the cafeteria," you say. It was clicking in your mind. The boy nods.
"I don't think anybody ever really leaves this place," he says. You look at Thomas. After a moment the boy speaks again. "We gotta go before someone notices we're gone."
"Why'd you show us this?" Thomas asks. The boy turns back and looks at you and Thomas.
"Maybe the others will listen to you. There's something weird going on around here. I know you think so too. I don't actually know about you," he says looking at you. You look at him, nodding. The boy starts crawling back and Thomas stops him.
"Wait, what's your name?" The boy stops.
"Aris," he says, then leaves. You sit back, looking down through the vent.
"One prison to another. Just great," you say and roll your eyes. You crawl over to the turn, where Aris went. You look back at Thomas. "Come on, the guys will notice we're gone." He looks at you and crawls after you.
The next day, in the cafeteria you listened to Janson read off names. You were sitting next to Thomas. You got no sleep and you mind still wouldn't shut up.
"I want to know what's through that door," Thomas says. Newt sighs, looking at the two of you.
"Look, we've been over this. They were covered up, it could have been anything," Newt says. You look at him.
"Maybe one person seeing it could be written off, but both of us saw it Newt," you say.
"Both of you were delirious. You still are," he says.
"No, Newt, I know what I saw. They were bodies. Aris says the bring in a new batch every night," Thomas says.
"Who the hell is Aris?" Minho asks. You nod in Aris's direction. He was studying something on his tray. He looked out of it. "I'm sold." You glare at your friend.
"And last, but not least, David," you hear Janson yell.
"Alright, until we know anything for certain, just keep our heads down and try not to draw any attention to ourselves," Newt says. You nod in agreement. Thomas was staring off into space.
"Thomas?" You say. He glances at you but stands up, his hand causing a loud noise on the table, and speed walking towards the door. You sigh.
"What's he doing?" Newt asks. You straighten up.
"Drawing attention to himself," you say. Thomas looked down, and tried to get past the door, trying to blend in as one of the kids called. A guard stops him, and you stand up. You take a step, but Thomas seems to be turning back towards your group. He looks at you, meeting your eye. He nods slightly, then quickly bolts back around, trying to get past the guards. You run up to them, the others following suit.
A guard shoves him back. "Back off!" Thomas shoves him.
"What's your problem man?" Thomas yells. The guard pushes him again, in time for you to be there. You put a hand on his arm, with the other boys trying to get inbetween the two.
"Control your friend!" The guard yells. Then Janson runs through.
"What's happening here?" He asks. "Thomas... I thought we could trust eachother. We're all on the same team here, you know that."
"Are we?" Thomas asks. You still had a hand on his arm. Janson looks at him for a moment, glances at you, and then takes a step back.
"Get them to their bunks," Janson says. A few guards start grabbing you all, roughly pushing you.
"Ay!" You yell. They just shove harder, causing you to stumble a little. You're all practically thrown into the room, you right after Thomas. You being the lightest of the bunch, gets tossed a little to hard. You crash into Thomas who steadies you out.
The door closes and you stand up on your own.
"What the hell was that about?" Minho asks.
"You didn't really think they were just going to let you through, did you?" Newt asks. Thomas rolls his eyes, digging in his pocket.
"No. Of course I didn't." He pulls something out of his pocket. He holds up the key card. "I'm going to find out what's on the other side of that door. Okay? These people are not who they say they are."
"No! Thomas you don't know that. The only thing we do know is that they helped rescue us from WCKD. They gave us food, new clothes, a proper bed." He takes a step towards Thomas. "Some of us haven't had that in a long time." Newt asks.
"Yeah, but-" Newt cuts Thomas off.
"Some of us alot longer than others. Y/N, you haven't had it the longest. Why are you so against this?" You shake your head.
"I'm not against it Newt. I want all of us to be happy and safe. But I don't feel like we're safe here. I'm not going to just sit here when we might be in danger, again!" You say. Newt clenches his jaw and you hear the vent opening up. The grate pops out and skids across the floor. You look over and see Aris crawl out from under Thomas's bed.
"Hey, guys," he says.
"What the-" Frypan says, bending over to look at where Aris came from.
"You got a key?" Aris asks. Thomas nods.
"Yeah, lets go," Thomas says. He looks at you, and you nod, crouching down as Aris crawls back. "Maybe you guys are right, maybe we're just paranoid. But I gotta find out for sure." You nod, crawling in after Aris. You see Thomas get down and start crawling in after you. "Just cover for us. We'll be back as soon as we can," he says.
When you get to the vent from the previous night. Thomas opens it up and carefully swings himself down. He looks up at you. You held on my your arms and dropped down. He caught you by the waist and you looked up at him.
"Thanks," you say. Aris jumps down after you, and Thomas checks the hall as he pushes the door to the vent back closed. Then he grabs the keycard and swipes the door open.
There were tarps in there and then an archway. You saw rows and rows of curled up creatures held in blue liquid. You stared in shock.
Thomas glances at you, then swipes the next door open. You follow the two boys into the room.
"Oh my God," you say. Dozens upon dozens of kids were all hung up, with tubes, and their feet not even on the ground. You turn, looking at the nearest person. Thomas right next to you. You walk the row, looking at all the kids. They were being injected with something.
"Teresa?" Thomas says and you look over to a girl whose hair was in her face. You rush over with him as he moves the hair out of the girl's face. Revealing a very new girl. You let out a breath of relief.
"It's Rachel," Aris says and you look at him. He was staring at the girl. "They took her the first night. I told her it was going to be okay." You give Aris a sympathetic look.
You look over, hearing something behind the doors. Your eyes widen and Aris runs as the door cracks open. Thomas wraps an arm around you, pulling you against the pole.
"You sure this can't wait?" You hear Janson asks.
"She was very specific. She wanted to speak with you specifically, sir," another man says. You look at Thomas, he moves the two of you around the pole as the walking past you.
"As if I don't have enough to seal with," Janson says. Thomas pressed his back against the pole, and held you tightly against him so they wouldn't see you.
Thomas peaked around the corner and you lightly jab his chest, giving him an 'are you stupid' look.
"Just bare with me. We have interference with the storm," he says. He looks at you for a minute while Janson bosses the other man around. You held onto his shirt, and both your head snap over when you hear her name.
"Good evening, Doctor Paige. Lovely seeing you again. Well, not literally. I wasn't expecting to hear from you so soon," he says. Thomas turns a little more, loosening his grip on you. You moved a little, letting him turn to get a better look at the screen. There you saw her. The Doctor from the video in the Maze.
"Change of plans, Janson. I'll be arriving sooner than expected. First thing tomorrow," she says.
"Oh, uh, we'll be delighted to have you. I think you'll be pleased with our progress." He projects something onto the screen. "As you can see, early results have been promising. Whatever it is you've been doing to them in there, it's working."
"Not well enough. I recieved board approval. I want all the remaining subjects sedated and prepped for harvest by the time I arrive." Your eyes widen and your grip on Thomas's arm tightens. He doesn't look at you but grabs your hand, giving it a small squeeze.
"We're going as fast as we can without raising alarm," he says. "We are also still running tests."
"Try something faster," she says, sounding bored. "Until I can promise their security, this is best plan."
"Ma'am, security is my job. We're on twenty four hour lockdown here. I assure you the assets are secure."
"Have you found the right arm?"
"Not yet. We tracked them as far as the mountains."
"And they're still out there! They want these kids as badly as we do. And I cannot... I cannot afford another loss. Not when I am so close to a cure." You press your lips together. "If you are not up to the task, I will find someone else."
"That won't be necessary," Janson says. "Might I suggest we start with the most recent arrivals?"
"Just get it done," she says sharply. "Janson. I don't want them to feel any pain."
"They won't feel a thing."

A Brief History of the St. Louis Municipal Theatre Association
St. Louis Municipal Opera history as of 1943
To many it comes as a surprise that the world’s foremost summer theatrical enterprise is not a part of New York’s Broadway. nor even situated in Chicago’s Loop district. It is not to be found in Hollywood. The once-gay population centers of Europe have long since been counted out. To find this. the No. 1 summer footlights venture of all the world. one has but to go to the heart of St. Louis’ spacious and beautiful Forest Park. There Alone in Its Greatness” . . . stands the Municipal Opera.
It is truly the realization of a dream-the cul- mination of years of planning. effort and civic attainment. The sweep and size of the great sky- canopied amphitheater. the vastness of the stage with its panoramic expanse of massive and skillfully wrought settings. the number and size of backstage facilities. the tall and architecturally beautiful towers flanking the stage-all these. and many other aspects of the Municipal Theatre’s physical plant. yield a persuasive clue to the Municipal Opera’s status as an institution meriting such a designation.
Yet physical considerations in themselves do not necessarily imply true greatness. It is upon the loyalty and enthusiasm of the people. and the artistic integrity with which each season’s productions are invested. that the Municipal Theatre has built its reputation as the world’s outstanding starlight sum- mer entertainment. That claim. by and large. has gone unchallenged.
Night after night through the summer. overflow. capacity or near-capacity crowds fill the great amphitheater. Production after production wins the acclaim of critical and popular judgment. And season after season. rolling by with sureness and steadiness inherent to time. leaves the Municipal Opera’s legion of friends with the firm conviction that “this year, the Opera was better than ever before.”
The 1943 season, marking the Municipal Opera’s Silver Jubilee. is certain to be thus received. As befits the twenty-fifth anniversary of any enterprise. this summer’s shows are being contrived with studied effort to excel anything ever achieved in the past. That is a broad statement. especially in light of the fact that the theatre’s past has been so richly successful.
Consider these facts: In the past 24 summers. 13.738.966 persons have witnessed 1.806 perform- ances. In 267 weeks of operation, it has presented 262 separate productions. ranging in scope from grand opera to light musical romance. Among them were eight notable world premieres, and seven American premieres. The productions have been professional in the highest degree. and have fea- tured outstanding stars of the stage. screen and radio.
Let us. then. take a retrospective view of what has gone before:
In 1919. when a group of St. Louisans gathered on a hillside in Forest Park in an incompleted. unused theater. the Municipal Opera was launched- And with that first performance was born a new era in entertainment. one which was destined to be Alone in its Greatness.” From that time on. the beauty and success of subsequent seasons at the Municipal Opera have. in crescendo fashion. blazed the trail for one of the greatest advancements in the history of the theatre. with its fame known throughout the world.
But much has happened. the ambitions of many persons have been tested since that first night in 1919. The years which have passed have enabled the Municipal Opera to equip uniquely the theatre with every resource for brilliant production of re- markahle musical masterpieces.
Ten thousand seats are available nightly at ticket prices within the reach of all. Of these 10.000, 1700 seats at the top of the auditorium are free. This means that almost 150.000 seats are to be available. free of charge, for this season’s 88 performances. Also. approximately 30,000 reserved seats are distributed annually to the underprivileged through more than lOO welfare agencies.
The stage toward which these many thousands look. is 90 by 115 feet. flanked by two 70-foot oak trees which frame a background of sylvan beauty, On either side of the stage are two beautiful archi- tectural towers. illuminated and illuminating. A permanent structure of recessing cubicles provides a reflective surface for indirect lighting.
But these are only a few of the wonders of the Municipal Opera. These are only a few cogs in the wheel which has rolled steadily on since those experimental days in 1919. And experimental days they were. in every sense of the word.
The Municipal Opera was brought into being by a group of civic leaders under a charter which foreswore any possible profit to themselves.
Their decision to undertake the formation of the Municipal Opera was reached because of their experience in leadership during the \Norld War.
Out of those trying days had emerged a compact group of civic, industrial. professional and business leaders who had devoted themselves unsparingly to war work. They recalled that remarkable demon- stration of July 4. 1918. when. in a Pageant of independence created at the request of President Wilson. 1.700 foreign~born St. Louisans had reo dedicated themselves to the United States and its ideals.
That remarkable ceremony had taken place in what is now the Municipal Theater. before an audience which overflowed the hillsides. What had been a great focal point for patriotic endeavor in war time might become a common meeting ground for all St. Louisans. a rallying place for ciwc spirit in times of peace so those leaders thought. And they planned to create a theater where melody and drama and pageantrv and rollicking fun could be made available to all St. Louisans.
A fitting introduction to the glamour that was to follow had been provided in 1914 with the presentation of the epochal. ”St. Louis Masque and Pageant.” on Art Hill with which the city celebrated its 15oth birthday. with a cast of 7.500 and audiences which numbered 180.000 persons.
Out of that civic celebration. which paid its own way and had a surplus. grew the observance of the Shakespeare Tercentenary. when “As You Like It” was presented with a company of distinguished stars.
The success of such enterprises and the en- thusiasm with which they were received by St. Louisans oiiered an impetus to those leaders who on ]une 19. 1919. started the Municipal Theatre Association on its glorious way with the presenta- tion of ”Robin Hood.” That first season. threat- ened by many elements besides a raging river and many rains, finished with a small loss-as has one other Municipal Opera season-~but the guarantors
who had advanced money to make possible the beginning were repaid from the first surpluses there- after.
Never in Municipal Opera’s history has any guaro antor ever lost a single cent by his faith in the Opera and in St. Louis’ appreciation of beauty. Originally in 1919. 60 guarantors put up an aver- age of $462 each to finance the season. Now. however. almost l.000 guarantors put up “00.000 to insure each season against any financial loss that might be incurred.
The guarantors knew. as did St. Louis in gen. eral. that Municipal Opera was something extraoradinary. something of which to be proud. something which would assist in making St. Louis one of the country’s leading centers of beauty and of art. The formation of this enterprise was. in reality. the culmination of several civic traditions-love ol St. Louis for the theater. love of music by its citizenship. and the city’s importance in the de- velopment of Western America which had found its expression in that mammoth masque and pageant in 1914.
So arrangements were made. directors and technical men were contacted. and stars of the stage were hired to join their talents in providing St. Louis with the cream of entertainment. But in spite of everything. that first season found the road was not a smooth one. It was only through executive efficiency that the Municipal Opera was enabled to start on the path to fame. In 1920 its repertory was extended. 32 professionals were brought from New York and a chorus of 40 St. Louis singers was added. Those St. Louis singers performed so well that never again since that time were choristers imported. They performed so well. in fact. that St. Louis determined to secure as rapidly as possible an all-St. Louis chorus.
And in line with the Municipal Opera’s progress. in keeping with the trend of improvement. the 1920 season’s presentations were witnessed by 114.000 persons who paid $139,732.50. to allow a profit of $3,819.25. But the profit. of course. was profit for St. Louisans. for it went back into the theater for improvements. That was its creed. as it is today; that was the code which enabled a growth of al- most inconceivable proportions.
lt is the policy which enabled the erection of the attractive new stone pergolas. and which eventually will provide a completely reconstructed and mod- ernized al fresco theater.
The third season. 1921. showed a profit of 321.312.87. with an increase to 151.363 paid admis» sions. In 1922. the paying attendance was 196.092. The trend was still in progress. And with 1925. grand opera entered into the repertory when Cavalieria Rusticana” was presented in English. with “11 Trovatore” following in 1926. Then in 1928. St. Louisans heralded their success with a tenth anniversary jubilee. But iubilees. even though they be brilliant and colorful and the occasion for hand-shakes all around. were not to make the Municipal Opera feel it had attained its greatness. It was still progressing. Improvements had been made in the assembling of scenery. in the mechanical details on the stage. under the stage. in back and in front of the stage: the seating arrangements had been improved.
Now. however. with the twenty-fourth season here. those improvements are regarded merely as steps toward fame. for from that time on. the Municipal Opera has risen and grown in every manner and means. its greatest advancements having been page when business conditions were at their lowest
Although Nature first designed the auditorium in which the opera is presented. man has added his touch to make the Opera what it is. The .natural hillside in the heart of beautiful Forest Park slopes 253 feet from the top of the colonnade at the rear of the auditorium to the orchestra pit at the foot of the stage. It covers an area 255 by 256 feet. The concrete bowl is arranged in a series of steps of varying levels so that every person has an unobstructed view of the stage. Splendid natural acoustics are reinforced by a flawless system of amplification developed especially for the Municipal Opera.
At both sides and at the rear of the auditorium are the beautiful new pergolas. roofed in to shelter 15.000 persons in case of a summer shower. The huge stage is built to facilitate the moving of massive settings required for Municipal Opera productions. and 8.000 feet added to its area provides a space for action which the audience never sees. It is one of the largest stages in an open air theater anywhere, and in its center is a revolving stage. electrically operated and capable of making an en- tire revolution in ninety seconds.
Beneath the stage and in what was once the river bed before the River des Peres was harnessed under- ground by man, are carpenter shops. paint shops. property studios-all necessary in the spectacular program of productions. Farther back are spacious dressing rooms with showers. required for the more than 100 members of cast and choruses employed in every Municipal Opera production. A roofed-over rehearsal stage is used in preparing the succession of musical triumphs. and a costume studio through which. in the course of a single season. more than 5.000 costumes will pass. is at the rear.
In back of all this is an executive staff without a peer. and guarantors whose faith has been bolstered by the advent of every season. Also there is a Board of Directors. no member of which receives pay for his services. yet which includes some of the most active and able business and financial execu- tives in St. Louis.
The Opera has no ”angel.” It has no subsidies. It doesn’t owe a dollar to anyone. It is entirely divorced from the old aristocratic ideal that a season of musical productions must be supported by gifts from the state. or from the rich. It is truly a people’s theater. a triumph of democratic ideals, the result of St. Louis’ vision and faith.

everything has changed
for some reason its hitting me really hard today just how long ive been at kp and how much has changed.
i don’t think a 28th has passed where i haven’t gone “damn we’ve been here for x months.” and today that number is 10. we started here on june 28 and now its been 10 whole months here. 10 months where ive met amazing people, learned a ridiculous amount of stuff, and experienced things i never could’ve dreamed of.
10 months ago, i was laying in bed in Cleveland Hall for the first time thinking “what have i gotten myself into” as our first day as Candidates drew to a close. day zero was a whirlwind of new people, new information, new words and phrases, and a new way of life. all of indoc was crazy like that. by the end it started to get kinda a lil bit fun, but boy was i glad when it was over.
first tri i made an amazing best friend, a mistake i hope to never repeat, and a choice to switch my intended major. the 4 months from the beginning of indoc until the last week of October when we finally finally got to go home were so long. and yet so short. we went from Candidates to Plebe Candidates then to just Plebes and were so motivated and so stressed, if im being honest. i just remember how on edge i was all the time because of the regimental stuff.
second tri was stressful as well, but for academic reasons more than anything else. 20 credits plus zero credit courses meant i had literally 4 off periods a week. it was a mess. but the regiment still screwed w us (thats what they do when you’re a Plebe so it was understandable). they changed all our plebe rules right after Christmas break and really made our lives tough. so second tri just dragged on and on and on. i honestly thought it was never going to end. also i was spending all my time on the pool deck, and more specifically on yhe bleachers. but, that ended up being a blessing in disguise. said best friend from the beginning decided to leave the school. but because id spent 5 months sitting w gimp squad, i was given a new best friend (friends who read for an hour then ditch the rest of practice to go to dinner together stay together).
and now there’s third tri. the whole school seems to have had a weight lifted from its shoulders. its like a breath of fresh air. the Dark Ages are over and everyone is a bit happier. my class load is down from last tri. i discovered the wonder that is Off Campus Runs. and we’re finally Recognized, something that in the back of my mind i was afraid wouldn’t happen. this last week has been absolutely wonderful. acting like normal people is glorious.
we had a parade today. and as i stood there, i thought about how exactly 10 months ago i was completely overwhelmed by all the New and Loud that was day zero. i had no clue, honestly. but here i am, 10 months later, holding my rifle at parade rest, standing proud in my whites (i love whites and this was our first day wearing them), finally a recognized midshipman. and that’s when it really hit me. we Made It. I Made It. even though i cried for a week of indoc, almost ruined my reputation within 2 months of being here, struggled to even remember my class schedule second trimester, dreaded every single swim function, and really despised all the ways they screwed my class over, I MADE IT.
there were lots of times where i couldn’t see passed the end of the week let alone the end of the Plebe Year. the Dark Ages were the worst. January and February i was really in a rut; i can see that now. goodness this year was such a drag.
but i can see how much everything that has happened helped me along the way. i know crying is not a sign of weakness and that it’s okay to cry so long as you get back up again. i know how easy it is to be on the kp rumor mill and to avoid doing anything even semi scandalous. i know being a crossover sucks but if I can handle that schedule, the rest of ny trimesters here will all be a breeze by comparison. i know what kind of swim upperclassmen I want to be and how to treat people so they actually enjoy themselves. and i know how it feels to be the hated class. and now, im a midshipman w a really great life. i have wonderful friends, i tolerate my classes and enjoy my section, its finally getting warm out and i know a great place to spend my afternoons, and in 7 short weeks this year will be over.
like i said, a lot has changed in 10 months.

I got a ticket for going 49 in a 40 a few days ago. I don't usually speed, generally I just do 5 over. Wasn't aware that the section of road I was on was 40, the officer was sitting just in front of where it goes up to 45 apparently, but I was still speeding, and I'm going to pay it. My roommate mentioned that any speeding ticket that's 10 mph or less over the limit won't affect your insurance rate. Is this true? Does anyone know any cheap car insurance companies for new drivers?
I am coming up to 19 (1 week) and have had my UK Full Manual license since December 2012, it's now May 2013. I have tried everything to find cheap car insurance online and it's virtually impossible! I don't know if it's my area that I live causing it to be so high, or my lack of experience with driving. I have tried different addresses (i.e. family members) not in to be fraudulent but to see if it is the area, which is proving to be quite true. But I've tried insurance comparison websites and asked friends who they got their insurance from and still no good. My cheapest quote is around 2,000 which I just can't afford. I am going to university in September and will be going on various placements within the weeks I am there, so a car would really help get me to places easily. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on lowering the cost of insurance, somehow? I've tried all these telematic sites but it's still too high. Also, could anyone recommend any sites I could try for my insurance quotes? N.B. I haven't purchased a car yet (as there is no point if I can't afford insurance) but is there a year which can help to lower the cost of car insurance? Such as, rather than having a 10 year old car (03 reg) having a 3-4 year old car? Any specific year? Thanks very much.""

Car insurance for husband and wife.?
Recently I went to insure my daughter and her car in the company me and my wife have been insured for some time. I wanted to include myself in her insurance but it went up in premiums a lot and we decided to insure her without me as an additional driver. Before that (last year to be exact) I insured my wife and I was included as a second driver. Basically, I was advised to do so on the basis that it would be cheaper. I heard about this option before and therefore did not check it properly with this company. This time (with my daughter) this option went an opposite way with higher premiums, so I asked them whether I can exclude myself from my wife's insurance as well because my insurance allows me to drive any car, but was told: ...because you are husband and wife, by law you cannot drive her car without being included in her insurance policy whatsoever... I am suspicious about this statement now and feel that I am being cheated. Does anybody know whether this rule exist or is it just the usual salesmen lie? Thank you.""

Why car insurance quote from tesco is 550 whereas competitors quote over 1000 ?
i went through swinton, axa ,norwich union, high performance, churchil, and a couple others. they did not even come close...is this possible? i am a bit suspicious, if that tesco quote is reliable, but they say when i call that i can complete the whole process online and i do enter the same detail as on other websites.""

Multiple auro insurance for vehicles in different states?
Me and my fiancee are relocating to different states for new job. I am moving to south Carolina and she is moving to san diego, California. We have multiple vehicle insurance discount now. If we move is it better to register both vehicles in one state to save on insurance , title and registration. I heard it is expensive to register vehicles in california. Can I register the vehicle in my name in south carolina. she is going to be there working at UCSD and the stay is temporary (max 2 years) or is it against the law?""

Why are republicans fighting the health insurance mandate and not fighting the car insurance mandate?
If you have to buy car insurance and get penalized for driving without car insurance, whats the difference here? Its as much a privilege to drive as it is to receive healthcare. However no one thinks its an over reach of government to mandate car insurance. When you get in a car accident with an uninsured driver you have to pay for your own damage, so how different is it then when americans use the public healthcare system, the government has to use TAX DOLLARS to pay for their health care. Also why is it being categorized as a Government Takeover of Healthcare ? If I buy health insurance wouldnt it be more like a Privatization of Healthcare seeing that instead of having vast amounts of tax dollars going into the system, the health system would now be funded by the insurance companies by paying out claims.""

Insurance on a car lease?
My insurance guy gave me below basic coverage on a lease which requires something like 100,000/300,000/100,000 but he did basic full coverage(something cheaper like 10/20/10) In the contract it states i must have 100/300/100 as the requirement but the insurance guy who does insurance for a lot of people says lower coverage should work. I just added it on and it's fine, so the insurance (progressive) sent me a letter saying I have to pay extra for adding a 3rd vehicle but nothing about the coverage amount. Will they later require I add more coverage? I don't see why I need 300k on a car that costs only 40 grand. people drive around with PIP 10/20/10 and that's good enough for the state. I have an excellent driving record with 0 accidents and have been driving for about 10 years. I realize I have ****ty insurance but insurance is a huge rip off so I want to spend as little as possible and deal with accidents out of my own pocket.""

Is affordable (not free) health care a right or a privilege?
There are many constituancies in this debate not the least of which is individual health responsibility. That said the costs are driven in large part by greed. Insurance, hospitals, doctors, drug companies, lawyers, restaurants and the food industry and fraudsters all have a dog in this fight. If affordable health care is believed to be a right (I believe it is) then all of these constituants need to come together. Al Tennessee""

What are my rights? re: car insurance?
I'm a bit short of money at the moment, so on the 31st January i phoned my car insurance company and asked them to suspend my insurance. They told me the direct debit request for February had been sent on the 29th January, which they couldn't stop, and would be taken from my bank account on the 1st February and i would later bee refunded that amount. Today i received a letter in the post telling me they would hold the payment and use it when i continue the policy or use it towards a cancellation fee if I don't unsuspend the policy. The policy ends in June! The reason i cancelled is because im on benefits and just don't have the money to afford this right now. Anything i can do?""
