Do you have any hcs abt how Curt and Owen "came out" to one another? (Using the term loosely cuz obviously they can't just be like "IM GAY") And also how they got together (who fell first etc etc)

Ok, so to preface this, my favourite thing about curtwen is just how many ways you can interpret their pre-canon relationship.

I try to keep their story relatively loose in my head, save for a few headcanons I very strongly believe in, because it's more fun this way.

For me, the #1 headcanon that's in all the iterations I think of, is that they hated each other at first. I think their personalities clash way too much for them to be all buddy-buddy on the first day. (Physical attraction? maybe. Was it minuscule compared to their irritation with each other? yes.)

I just think it's interesting how the two of them gradually (and begrudgingly) start to care about each other.

I think their "friendship stage" is one of my favourite parts about the whole thing. Now I refuse to believe either of those men have friends. Maybe coworkers and acquaintances, but not friends. Which is why this stage lasts so little.

As their work their way up to care for and respect each other, both of them go a little crazy about it.

It's the first time in years or even decades they felt genuine affection and maybe even trust, and both of them are extremely starved for it. So it really doesn't take much for them to fall for each other. (especially since the aforementioned physical attraction was always there and only getting stronger as they learned to tolerate each other)

I imagine, because of this, Owen was the one who fell first, and he employed his usual tactic for dealing with unwanted feelings: Being an ass and depriving himself of good things. He got more intense about his work, trying to immerse himself in it, so he'll stop thinking about Curt. He stayed up late, didn't even try to take it easy when he had a migraine, drank shit coffee and other great things.

It technically worked. He looked like shit, which in turn made Curt worried, and if Owen completely invalidated his worries the two of them would get into a fight, be mad at each other and not interact so much. Owen thought this would make him not yearn for Curt so bad (he still did, in fact, yearn for him that bad)

When Curt realized he was in love with Owen he was pretty horrified. Like listen. If someone has commitment issues it's Curt. Maybe he had a boyfriend or two during his teenage years/twenties, but they didn't end well, and since then he's been trying to keep everybody at arms length. He convinced himself Owen wasn't so bad because hey. They were just buddies (and Curt desperately needed a buddy.)

He tried to shove down and ignore his feelings, but moaning your friend's name while banging another guy may just be a little more than what you can avoid.

He never understood why Owen turned so cold suddenly, and he was terrified Owen just didn't like or trust him anymore. In turn he was also mad at him for trying to shut him out.

Their little hate renaissance could only last so long though. They were still each other's only friends and no matter what they did they kept being drawn back to each other.

This was a super long preface but. I am not normal about those two.

So. different scenarios and headcanons and whatnot

1. Either one of them somehow discovers the other is gay. This would probably mean Owen finding out about Curt, because, I wholeheartedly believe that man would leave during a mission sometimes just to get a quick fuck in. Maybe Owen finds out with evidence (fast & easy method) or he just starts strongly suspecting with his great spying and deduction skills (slow & torturous method, he'd try to convince himself he's just seeing what he wants to see) either way, the confrontation would be very uncomfortable for both of them. Curt would deny it ofc, and Owen would go through the internal battle of "tell him it's fine, you won't rat him out, but be a little homophobic about it, so maybe you can keep the only friend you have, but also be ok with the fact that he'll always be with other men and never you" or "tell him you're gay too, maybe he likes you, maybe not, and potentially risk losing your job and livelihood and everything you've ever worked for" He'd most likely end up doing the latter, surprising both Curt and himself. (He's already way more into Curt than he admits to himself) And things escalate from there.

2. Dramatic post mission (maybe a "I thought I'd never see you again" moment) This is where their friendship gets really interesting to me. For a scenario like this the months long yearning is a given, maybe even a lot of unresolved tension between the two (which would probably be resolved with violence anyways) They care very deeply about each other by now. They know each other better than anyone, and their idyllic relationship is only made into a living hell by all the pining. At this point I mean, they'd buy each other birthday gifts, go over to the other's house when they were in the same country and share way too much info over drinks. Their job is always dangerous, but even they can get scared. Maybe we're talking being crazy outnumbered, or a torture/hostage situations, or hell even a collapsing building. Point is, id either one of them thought the other (or both of them) may die, at this point they'd be impulsive enough to just say I love you or kiss the other. In the moment neither of them would care, and later on, when you'd normally talk about things like near death makeout sessions, they'd just. not. do that, because communication is for guys with better life prospects. This one has absolutely no coming-out talk in it, simply because they don't need it

3. Possibly drunk hookup Now clearly, we are talking about two of the most down bad men ever. This is one scenario, I think could also work really well when they still really hated each other. Maybe throughout their first few mission they both gathered enough evidence and sussed each other out, and after (yet another) explosive fight they might just. Alleviate the tension by not beating each other up but by. other means. They don't end up talking much about it, but it keeps happening, and wait maybe they don't even hate each other all that much. (This is the more sober option) The other one is where the "possibly drunk" comes in. If they've been friends for a while, they probably got used to working around each other and finding comfort in the other's presence. This includes little habits, inside jokes, and even (very small) physical touches. This probably wouldn't go down during a mission, it's more likely to happen at either Curt's or Owen's house, maybe during some holiday. Both of them realizing it's a pretty bad idea early on, because, without all the stress of the missions and navigating a foreign country all that's left is them and the feelings they have for each other. Owen would probably say no to drinks for the first few times, just to avoid a potentially dangerous situation, but Curt would wear him down eventually. Now, with both of them drunk and comfortable, it wouldn't take much for things to escalate. Maybe Curt forgets to take his hand off of Owen after patting him on the back, or Owen holds Curt gaze for a little too long. Either way, those two end up fucking. The next day both of them are a little horrified, but they manage to come clean about their feelings (even if it's in the most backwards and convoluted way possible)

Happy ending (or not) There's many more ways it could've happened, but I already wrote wayyyy too much I think.

In the end I don't think they'd ever have a proper conversation about homosexuality, even way into their relationship. It's something they slowly pick up on from each other. How ashamed are they, what makes them tick, what you shouldn't say etc. And then of course, since they don't communicate properly and sometimes purposefully hurt each other, they'd throw it all back in the other's face.

I have now finally seen the Mario movie. It was Pretty Good. Here are my wordy thoughts on it. (I am going to spoil the entire movie. Duh.)

In many ways, the Mario movie does what I wish the first Sonic movie had done. They just took the characters and the premise and the world from the games, and made it a straightforward animated adventure movie. It's bright and colorful and remixes things JUST enough to include fun elements from multiple games, and it doesn't make Mario get adopted by James Marsden or whatever. It even has the music!

That's all you really need, right? Right...?

I'll get this out of the way up front. Chris Pratt was fine. He's fine

If anything, it really feels like they did the movie a disservice by letting us hear so little of the Mario voice in the previews. It took one scene for Pratt to disappear into the role for me. It was totally fine. If anything, I found Charlie Day's normal voice coming out of Luigi WAY more distracting, even if I did like him in the role.

Everyone else was pretty good, for the most part. Jack Black was obviously very good as Bowser, but I'm biased. Seth Rogen does the Seth Rogen laughs as Donkey Kong, but I thought DK was fun, too. (I liked his little rivalry with Mario where he was just constantly giving him shit.) The only casting choice I truly hated was Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong. I hated every line that came out of his mouth. He sounds atrocious. Just the worst. I swear to fucking god if they do a DKC movie and we have to hear him for 90 minutes

I did think Peach was lacking, but that was on the script, not Anya Taylor-Joy's performance. It's cool to see Peach fight, but it's one of those all too common instances where the writers put so much effort into making the main girl kick ass and be an effortlessly confident girlboss that they forgot to give her an actual personality. Not that I'd point to Super Princess Peach and its mood swing superpowers as positive representation or anything, but there's a happy middle ground, surely. Shrek was 22 years ago, just having the princess do flying kung fu kicks isn't enough.

Okay. With the voices out of the way, let's talk about the big picture:

It's way better than the words "Illumination Mario movie" implied, and I mostly enjoyed my time with it. The spirit of Mario is there 100%. But I'd also describe it as "ruthlessly efficient."

This was perhaps the main complaint critics had, and they were absolutely right. People have responded to these totally average reviews with "Well, what did you expect? Shakespeare?! It's MARIO!!" Like, yes, I would prefer it if the movie I paid to see had writing that was good instead of bad. What a shocker. My issue isn't that it's not "high-brow" enough. The problem is that it feels mercenary. It feels like an editor went through and deleted almost every line of dialogue that isn't some form of exposition, at the expense of the pacing. Any scene that's not a montage or some sort of action is kept as short as they could make it, with barely any room for embellishment, character interaction, or anything other than the bare minimum word count to hit all the typical Save the Cat Hollywood screenwriting 101 story beats to the letter. There aren't even as many jokes as you might think (and the ones that are there are extremely hit or miss, including a lot of the slapstick with Mario himself).

Mario and Peach's little arc together in the front half of the film is probably the worst example of this pacing. Even having read reviews that complained about how fast Peach goes from meeting Mario (by her admission the first other human she's ever met) to deciding to train him as the new savior of the Mushroom Kingdom, I was SHOCKED at how fast it was. They don't even lampshade it.

Peach takes Mario straight into the big training sequence where he learns how to use mushrooms and jump over platforming obstacles. Peach is apparently already a hypercompetent platforming pro and a great fighter, so there's no clear reason why she's taking the time to train this random guy to be half as good as her when the world is in danger. Then they set off on their adventure, Toad joins them, and we get a VERY brief travel montage. It's about thirty seconds total - just long enough to give Peach a line about how she wants to protect this beautiful world of hers to try and give her some stakes. We get the genre-mandated nighttime campfire heart to heart, which is exactly long enough to have Mario say he misses Luigi and to have Peach give the two sentence summary of her origin story and not a second longer. Then they reach the Kongs, and their big journey is complete. (They barely interact for the rest of the movie.) So much of the movie is like this - always ready to get on to the next scene as soon as a new one starts.

I'm not criticizing the script because I expect The Super Mario Bros. Movie to be a prestige drama - although there are certainly halfhearted attempts at a dramatic arc. The stuff with Mario's family was a fun enough idea, but again, ruthless efficiency. We get one quick scene with them at the start to give Mario some pathos, because I guess Save the Cat said he's gotta have some pathos. And then Mario gets his dad's approval amidst the action of the final battle in Brooklyn to resolve his arc, just so the movie can end as quickly as possible once Bowser is defeated. (Despite now having the approval of their family and their community back in Brooklyn, Mario and Luigi move to the Mushroom Kingdom off-screen without a single word dedicated to this decision, because that's where they live in the games.)

Look. I am not comparing it to The Godfather. Don't give me that shit. I am not asking for an extra half hour to explore Mario and Luigi's childhood trauma. I am not asking for the complex inner workings of the Mushroom Kingdom monarchy. I know this is gonna be a basic Hero's Journey adventure for kids. It just feels like it's turning down so many opportunities to have a little fun with the characters, to let them interact and play off of each other, to let there be some adventure on this adventure. This is the first time we've gotten to see these characters interact with fully voiced dialogue in a very, very long time! "Yeah, it's not High Art, but it's FUN!" Stories are fun! Character interactions are fun! The script could be having so much more fun!! It is adamantly against making the Story parts of this story-driven movie any more Fun than they functionally need to be!!!

Mario, Peach, and Toad's journey to find the Kongs is shorter than the training montage that precedes it. After the opening, Bowser mostly just sits in his castle and waits for the third act to start. Luigi's there, too, but he only gets one scene with Bowser and then the movie mostly forgets he exists until the climax. He doesn't even get to try and sneak out of Bowser's castle and get up to hijinx. He's just there to be a motivation for Mario, so he sits in a cage for half the movie. It's the bare outline of a script with action scenes added in.

Aside from the fact that it's Jack Black singing as Bowser, I feel like this overly-efficient script might be part of the reason why the "Peaches" scene stands out so much. It's a moment that didn't strictly need to be there to keep the plot moving or to provide an action setpiece. It's not even a reference to another Mario thing. It's just a fun and memorable little character moment that's there for its own sake. That's what the movie needed more of. To stop and smell the roses more often. To play in the space.

To be clear, this isn't a unique problem with this movie. Critics have been noting for years that second acts are disappearing from big Hollywood movies in favor of the Act I plot setup and the Act III action, even though Act II is supposed to be where you get to explore your actual premise. And lots of animated movies give me this exact same vibe of being too "screenwriterly," or feeling like they had an executive breathing down their necks and demanding changes based on focus testing. But these common issues are why I come away mostly feeling like the movie is on the better end of "average," rather than totally blowing my mind. You have seen this movie many times before, just not with Mario in it.

And, of course, there's the music. The score by Brian Tyler based on various classic Mario and Donkey Kong tunes (frustratingly all attributed to Koji Kondo) is absolutely beautiful, but it's unfortunately frequently overshadowed by the licensed music. Everyone already complained about things like the use of Take On Me in place of a lovingly arranged DKC medley, but it feels illustrative of the tug of war the movie is caught in the middle of, between wanting to be a lavishly faithful Mario movie and wanting to be a generic tentpole animated adventure movie. Every single licensed song used is the most obvious, overused song they could have picked for the scene. It reeks of cynical executive meddling and it took me out of the movie every time.

But there really was a lot of care and love put into this movie - more than probably any other video game movie ever made, not that that's a high bar. I don't want to underplay that too much amidst all my complaints spurred by the absolutely insane response to the reviews.

Aside from the countless background references that people will be picking apart for years, touches like the Captain Toad tune playing in the background of Toad's introduction or the Mario Kart 8 menu music playing in the kart garage really help bring it to another level of authenticity. I also enjoyed seeing some more obscure Mario enemies that felt like they were picked more for being fun to animate than for being nostalgic and marketable. No matter how many times I sarcastically pointed to the screen and deadpanned "reference. reference." I am not immune to noticing these things and smiling. I am not immune to the DK Rap. These alone don't make the movie good, but it's nice to have a video game movie that feels like it was made by people who like video games.

Most importantly, the animation is great throughout. It's leaps and bounds ahead of other Illumination work, and it's the best the Mario cast has ever looked. They even made Donkey Kong handsome, somehow. They're all so squishy and expressive, and they move so fluidly - especially in the action scenes. I particularly liked the more kinetic ones like the aerial Banzai Bill chase and the Mario Kart sequence. Truly, the Mad Max-inspired car battle on Rainbow Road where Mario literally does the speedrun shortcut is this movie firing on all cylinders.

Other, more hand-to-hand fights nail the Popeye-esque vibe Mario should be going for. He's an underdog who gets the shit kicked out of him by bigger, stronger opponents until he gets his signature powerup and turns the tables on them. My favorite animation of all probably came from the use of Cat Mario to turn the tide in the DK fight. They had so much fun making Mario move like a cat. Again, it feels like a choice made because it'd be fun to animate rather than just a nostalgia move.

It's that animation and that attention to detail that carry the film, really. They elevate it from mediocrity into being a fun watch for a fan like me, albeit one I couldn't help but pick apart with Anthony as we watched it at home. I'm glad I saw it, but there's a lot of room to improve with the inevitable sequel. I hope they do. I can't deny that I had fun with the movie, but I hope next time that fun is partially because of the script instead of in spite of it.

Stray thoughts:

Overall, I would say I enjoyed the movie a lot more than Sonic 1, but probably not as much as Sonic 2. Not that these movies need to be pitted against each other.

I hated the Luma. I hated how hilarious they clearly thought the Luma was. They have the fucking Luma break the fourth wall to end the movie and start the credits. This is going to be a deep cut for fans of bad animated films, but the whole time I was just thinking of the little fish from Romeo & Juliet: Sealed With A Kiss who's just the director's kid saying random nonsense. You know I'm right

I rolled my eyes at the "our princess is in another castle" joke and several other jokes that would have been dated in a gamer webcomic 20 years ago but I guess they had to be there

It was a normal night doing a solo patrol. You actually liked nights like these. The city is quiet and still, it almost makes you wish it was like this more. “(H/n) there’s been reports of strange activities at the nearby warehouse.” Oracle came over the comms. “Really trying to give me something to do? Okay, I’m on it.”

Turning off comms, you made your way to the warehouse. It was abandoned, just left to rot away. It could be a potential hide out for a gang. You entered through a side entrance and looked around the empty building.

In the center of the building was a nest of some sort. It was made of dead branches and scraps of metal. You sighed and turned comms back on. “Looks like a home for some animal. More of a job for an animal catcher.”

“Might as well do it. You’re not doing anything.” You and Oracle laughed together. A loud bang rang out towards the back of the warehouse. It was silent after, a sinking feeling of dread washed over. You looked in the direction of the bang and slowly walked towards it.

Suddenly, an abnormally large dog launched out of the shadows. It bit down on your arm, causing blood to spill. You kicked the dog off and watched it run off into the darkness. Panting, you looked at your now shredded arm.

“I need to head back to the cave. I’m losing a lot of blood Babs.” Your mind was already getting fuzzy. You could barely walk let alone run. This was extremely unusual for just a bite.

You fell to the ground, an overwhelming fatigue taking over your body. Right before you passed out someone ran inside calling your name. Their yelling and footsteps felt so distant as your eyes closed.

When you woke up your entire body aches. You tried to get a grasp on your surroundings. There was a nightstand with a note, pills, and a glass of water on it. Pulling yourself up you open the note and smiled. It was a note from Alfred telling you to take your medicine.

Listening to his wise words you took the pills. You tried to stand up but immediately fell back on the bed in pain. It felt like someone was bashing your head in. Apparently you made enough noise to concern someone.

Their footsteps running up the stairs sounds like bombs. You clamped your hands over your ears. The door flung open and in the doorway was Bruce. “Y/n are you okay?” Even though he spoke at a normal level it felt like he was screaming directly in your ears.

“Please be quiet. Just leave me be.” Your voice sounded so weak. Bruce without another word, left closing the door behind him. You sink back down into the bed. Pain and fatigue took over your body forcing you to go back to sleep.

Weeks had passed since then and things have only gotten more concerning. Your teeth were sharper, your temper was short, and your own strength was starting to scare you. You felt so wrong. The need to get away was overwhelming.

Everyone had taken notice of your changes. The worry and concern could be felt through every interaction. You just couldn’t take it anymore. You packed some of your things and left while no one was watching. You were back on the streets again.

It didn’t take long for the family to notice your absence. They were quick to start searching for you. They search for you all over Gotham. Until, eventually, Alfred finds you. It completely caught you off guard. "Master Y/n, there you are. The entire family is worried sick." He kept his cool as to not scare you off.

"They shouldn't worry, especially you." Your voice was a little rough but not too off. You watched as Alfred shook his head at you, he had a small smile on his face. Something about it was always a comfort to your strange life.

"You worry too much about others, maybe it's time to focus on taking care of yourself." He stated in such a 'matter of fact' way. Which, to his credit, wasn't wrong. He put a reassuring hand on your shoulder. "Tell me why you really left." The words hit you like a truck, maybe there was some underlining issues at play.

"It's just a lot of pressure is all. Protecting the innocent means no mistakes, no half measures. You have to be perfect and I'm not perfect like this." Your voice was as soft as it could be. Alfred let out a sigh before looking off at the sky.

"When Master Bruce was your age, he was filled with so much anger. He caused much trouble in his teenage years." He took a brief pause, probably trying to think of the right story. "One day I was informed by the school that Bruce had received a one week suspension. Of course it was for a fight, he didn't like how a kid was treating others. He said the kid deserved it." He cocked his head and smiled. "So I dragged him by the ear and gave him a lesson in temperance."

You laughed a little at this. "So, you dragged him to teach him a lesson in temperance? Sounds about right." All Alfred could do was laugh at your words.

"Well, he did learn to control his temper. You can learn to control this new power you have." He put his hand back on your shoulder, he made his point clear. "Come back home, for the family."

You thought about for a moment before sighing. "I'll come home but only for your cooking." The small joke made the both of you laugh lightly. The ride home was rather comforting in a strange way.

What you didn't expect however, was everyone bombarding you with affection and questions. Which was mainly Dick.

It felt nice to be back.

My personal timeline as a multi shipper

Here’s my controversial MHA (I know I know) ship timeline. I see a pattern of simply liking a ship because the two characters had an interesting interaction or exclusive to Izuocha, where Ochako can only likes Izuku. This is in order by timeline. I want to to spread this to show people that you are not hated by 100% of a group of anybody. We are all multi-faceted beings. My ships are based on interesting dynamics not canon-ness thereby superiority. This list is based on a timeline, not my interest.

‘Shipping’ in my case is simply enjoying the characters in a fanart or fa fiction outside of canon which is deemed more than is needed to understand the charcters. Support romantic or otherwise fanart with mainly two characters basically. It doesn’t even mean I see how they would be together in canon. Before bakudeku, I read most of these at the same time. I felt I had to have one ship only at some points too which isn’t true.

Maybe shipping for me is just liking an aspect of a story.

Izuocha. I liked this ship because it seemed like it was going to be obviously canon. I enjoy a lot of canon-ships like NaruHina, KanaTanjiro or just about any of my favorite shoujo and boys love pairings. Also a few spare girls love comics too; cute! I just thought that’s how it was. First friend and supportive and obvious.

Kacchako. I enjoyed their fight in the Sports Festival arc of mha because Katsuki didn’t hold back. I agreed with most of the crowd, he’s /kind of/ insane in how he acts at his point in the series. I fully believed he would go Sasuke or Villain route in this part of the series. I liked that he didn’t treat her differently because she’s a girl despite his intentions. Ochako put up her best fight and found something new in herself that she hadn’t before; the wit and quick thinking to fight back against a super strong unrestrained Enemy. I ended up seeing a BEAUTIFUL fanart of him sitting at a desk and Ochako sitting at a wind that was amazingly rendered. I read a lot of— let’s just say extremely out of pocket fan fiction about this rare pair. I felt insecure about this ship because it got made fun of online. Also Bakugo’s ‘nothing frail about her’ comments in the relationship connection extras. Regardless, interesting, fun, imaginative, unexpected.

KiriBaku. This seems to be the mostly widely /accepted/ ship in my opinion. I feel like it has the most support in the American fandom. Kiri was super popular at the time I joined my hero and I was deep in the weeb-tok era of 2019 through 2021(anyone else miss the “Iwa-Chan, kageyama!/ I know that I’m gonna slaughter dis” sound? And OH the cosplays). MAN I miss it it was so fun and less dodgy than boring-ass takes and blind fighting on twitter. I was a bakudeku hater at this time because I blindly believed the death threats were true. I didn’t hate the ship personally feel deep down but I thought actual death threats would’ve been too far. I often dumped mean and repetitive comments on anti-bakudeku tiktoks. I really enjoyed an actor au where the author switched the moha characters to playing their Japanese voice actors. Baku go/okamoto really wanted to play a canon gay character in the drama they were actors in but Izuku got it first which caused his continued resentment of izuku because he assumed he was not gay. It was really fun and some of the fics were very memorable and wholesome. Good times! At the transition between these two ships the fandom was all happy and the fanfics were funny and Bakugou was being supportive of his friends in his own way at this point.

Bakudeku. The plot twist of the century. But, not really. See, I hated bakudeku mostly because I wanted to fit in with the popular opinion and simple “they hate each other!!”. In order to seem normal and not insane since it was so hated. Again, I already thought bakugo’s character because it humanizes a bully in a realistic way. I usually live for those crazy ass villains anyway; it’s just anime. Death Note??? But obviously, I never would have put Bakugou in Izuku together. Rewatching season 1 that shot was terrible as fuck and heart wrenching and I feel so bad again after watching and I can see why I absolutely hated Katsuki when I watched mha. I can see why people still hate him. Again, I started looking at the fanart out of spite and saw a lot of fanart with one of them looking at the other back and watching them from behind. It’s really true to the series. It is so heart wrenching to watch and read. That’s why I like reading it. I’ve read SOO many fics where either of them die mostly Izuku, because of the suicide comment, but eventually with the event of black whip, mostly Katsuki for obvious reasons. There’s a deep theme of saving and winning and even the horror of death when you love someone so obviously I was captivated. Some fics, and I mean A LOT, basically predicted word for word the hospital scenes. I don’t like ‘I know your secret power’ tropes, but it’s there. There’s just so much between them it’s crazy. The way /The Way You Used To by: edema ruh/ has like the exact hospital scenes that LATER!!!! Happened in the manga… the death, the emotional power-ups, the connection of a separate soulmate ( ‘nother person in your body thing like the vestiges) quirk, PLUS ofa transactions inspired by two heros that canonically seem like they’re about to happen. You’ve got the Volume cover and everything to show for it too. Themes of almost Spider-Man and Gwen???? I rewatched Spider-Man 2 and it’s like huh??? And also Izuku is inspired by spider-man as well? Oh SHIT, is bakugo Izuku’s failed save? I’m gonna be SO FUCKINNG MAD if that happens, but I’m one of those people who enjoys angst a lot at the same time and I will appreciate it. I’m so everything for this ship for this ship platonic friendship or not I may just ship their friendship

TodoIIda. Usually, I don’t find a lot of my ships seeming canon except for this one. I already know that any important relationship or friendship between characters can be shipped but since they aren’t seen interacting on screen much next to the scene where iida saves him instead of going ahead, it really stuck. That must have been Horikoshi’s intention because he came back to them recently like they matter to each other. I JUST remembered the stain arc and how IIda and Shouto’s can relate on wanting revenge. Iida’s motto to help someone anywhere any time relates to Todoroki’s helplessness as a child. They’re important to each other. Friends, family.

Togachako. I didn’t consider this a ‘ship’ per se until recently, but I was obsessed with how Toga wanted become Ochako and the people she loves also how they like the same boy I guess?? Izuku seems oblivious and somehow even unrelated to their relationship even though it started it. There was this one cosplay tiktok with a poppy sound on it and I was OB- SESSED. I told you I love me some crazy simpy villains and Toga is just that. Unexpected was how Ochako starts to focus on her specifically and want to save her. I was NOTTT expecting her to say she was jealous of her smile. I was so sad when Himi said she didn’t want to talk to Chako anymore so I was PUMPED to hear people spreading the misleading togacjako canon on twitter. Toga biromantic/sapphic vampire whose blood-sucking is like kissing, is getting blood from ochsko for the rest of her life. I don’t know if toga really cares anymore. I also enjoy their possible relationship to Yuki-onna. Would love if something came out of them in canon, though I just realized toga explicated said she wanted to go out with Izuku so why can’t she do it for ochako?

dabihawks. I was SO confused why people shipped this when they barely showed their interactions. I only realized when a mostly canon style fan manga dubbed did a dabihawks comic. I then realized they are are almost the same childhood reflections of each other, neglected, abused by their parents

As an end note, I learned that every ship dynamic has to be romantic, but usually it is because of recent fan culture. I’m 15 but I know a lot about older fandom because I was an avid Kaichou Wa Maid Sama fan and used the less popular fan fiction.net. People are a lot nicer on fanfixtion sites than on social media sites, I’ve learned also older fandoms didn’t get massively hated on like MHA does. Hello, you said on a post you were prof. diagnosed with ASPD - May I asked how that went? What did it look like?

Sure! Mine happened with a mix of two professionals and the input of a third smd fourth. Firstly, I went to a therapist and explained what I thought may be happening - that as far as a few friends with ASPD had told me, and what I had read online, I resonated with a lot of it and thought it would explain much of my symptoms - after a couple months of consistent weekly therapy, my therapist felt confident enough to evaluate me by verbally asking me about each criterion and found that she wasn't entirely sure that it was ASPD, mostly due to the law-abiding criterion and the aggression criterion not truly being met and the fact that she didn't think (from what I'd told her) that I would have met the criteria for Conduct Disorder during my childhood. I later would explain to her the things my psych evaluated that counted in her opinion that I simply hadn't yet gotten to with my therapist. She went to a colleague and they both felt uncertain it was ASPD and were leaning toward a mix of my already diagnosed PTSD and a potential for autism. She advised me to be evaluated for autism and go from there.

During the first autism evaluation appointment, my psych asked what brought it to my attention and I explained we were trying to rule out if it was autism causing symptoms that reminded me of ASPD ones. My psych suggested we do paper evaluations (where you read statements and honestly answer how much you agree with and relate to them) for both first, and we did.

After scoring those, we made another evaluation appointment at which she advised me both evaluations appeared to suggest diagnosis, but input from a colleague was that autism could appear as ASPD, unless of course there were any symptoms that didn't have any potential for overlap between the two. I explained the reason I felt I had ASPD - and got into my outlook on people, relationships, empathy, social interaction, etc. I don't think she was expecting me to feel the way I do about the world because I had been masking my symptoms for so long that I've become quite good at it for anyone who doesn't live with me.

At that point she was more convinced, and suggested we take 2 more paper evaluations. One was to fill the differential diagnosis thing and the other was a "psychopathy" screening. Whilst it is poorly named, it is a legitimate medical test for ASPD that just happens to be quite old.

Upon scoring those, she said she felt confident diagnosing me with both and did. She asked if I was ok, and that was that. I went to therapy as normal and let my therapist know what was diagnosed.

Both psych appointments were in serious symptom flares to the point where I could not mask and I can say that definitely helped me get a diagnosis, which is an upside to an otherwise extremely unpleasant situation for me. I prefer to keep things masked so as not to scare off the professionals I have built trust with.

Still, it got me answers and I appreciate that. Some professionals will use paper, whilst others will use direct DSM criteria in a verbal eval, and others still will diagnose in a more "covert" way to avoid skewed results or masked answers if you show enough symptoms to be diagnosed just through your talk therapy (though they should still tell you that you have it, but they may not say they're evaluating you for it). That is the only way that is super likely to be diagnosed in one appointment - otherwise expect it to take a few or even a lot if it's a new professional. Because PDs have to be persistent and consistent, they need to ensure it's a long term issue that has been and appears to continue to be happening at all times after onset.

saw you liked the house in fata morgana! i’ve been really wanting to finish it because it’s a great story overall but… I just got to the reveal that Jacopo apparently had feelings for Morgana (who’s a child here, right?) and the fact that the game doesn’t deal with that very well so far (in comparison to the other darker topics brought up in the game, which seem to be dealt with quite well in my opinion.

Is the game worth finishing despite this? Do they deal with the topic better later on or is it something that can be overlooked for the story as a whole?

It would be nice to have a take from someone who’s played the game is all!!

this might be kinda long/spoilery (not sure what point you're exactly at in the story atm) so putting it under a cut:

it definitely put me off at first, you're not at all alone in feeling that way. but i finished the game either way because i was already really far in. unfortunately it feels like every other VN/anime pushes "relationships" with an underage character with an adult or adds unnecessary sexualization and such so i'm sort of used to filtering it out if the story is otherwise good. when tuning it out i just sort of treat the gap like it's far different than what it actually is, like something normal and less extreme. i will say the relationship (?) doesn't advance to anything romantic or sexual, thankfully.. but it does feel super forced and weirdly shoved in there because it really added nothing more to the plot. plus, they could have easily made jacopo a younger age and morgana slightly older rather than deliberately choosing a pedophilic situation for no true reason. that's honestly the part that peeves me the most. there are unfortunately some people that "ship" the two when that wasn't really the intent of the game.. (i would say the other characters are more so meant to be the "romantic" aspect of the game) so i would warn against interacting with that portion of the fanbase because it gets uncomfortable.

you're right in that it's not portrayed the same way the other dark themes are in the other doors. as in they fail to acknowledge it's taboo, wrong and meant to be dreadful to see. which honestly confuses me even more, i guess they were going for "well in the year 1000 no one would care" angle? because everyone treats it like it's something normal.. but that also makes no sense because there's an option from one of the questions later in the game where if you answer a certain way (i full cleared the game, as in i went down every option possible, so i did end up seeing it) they react very badly, denounce you and call you a pedophile etc (and rightfully so..)

i would say the game is worth finishing, if you're invested at this point, because the relationship is not pursued. i don't like that aspect of the game at all, and i'm sure many others don't as well.. but i love the characters and other doors and endings despite that. it's very well written and has a lot of depth and complexity compared to other stories i've read which makes me favor it a lot. it was great to see the closure for all of the characters and such, which made it a lot easier to overlook.

i tried to play the next game which was meant to be a prequel "requiem for innocence" and it focuses heavily on jacopo and morgana (like the origin story more i guess) and i honestly couldn't finish it and stopped pretty early in. i might try to pick it up again at some point but idk, for me it just sort of solidified how much of a groomer he comes off as and made me dislike his character more. a lot of his lines were cringeworthy.. you may have a different experience though!

i'm currently playing the reincarnation sequel and it's been fine so far, and the relationship is still strictly platonic. no idea if it stays that way but i'll let you know..

Oldest of five siblings (three younger sisters and one younger brother) born to a pair of Christian missionaries

Whenever the family wasn't abroad in the missions field, they'd be in Tonopah Valley, but they were constantly travelling so she never really had a definition of home until she was 16 when she basically begged her parents to let her go to a regular school so she could make friends her own age

She was v much into education and came across as a teacher's pet but she was just extremely excited to finally be somewhere for longer than a few months at a time.

She went to college and got a double major in education and English, returning to Tonopah after graduating to teach at Tonopah Hills High School. After a few years of teaching, though, "normal" started to get boring. Grass is always greener and all that.

While on a bachelorette trip to Vegas for her college friend, she met @antoniojimenez and the two got married while super schwasted. They decided rather than get divorced, they'd see where things went.

Things were fine at first, but she got pregnant a few months after they got married and that put some strain on their relationship, especially because Antonio was then deployed and wasn't there for the birth or the first year of their daughter's life. He was there for the birth of their second child, but his dedication was clearly more geared towards the military than his own family and that rubbed Nadia the wrong way.

PTSD and addiction tw: She had to change her career path to be able to afford to pay bills because teachers don't get paid well u feel and she had to pick up the slack since Antonio was dealing with PTSD and drug addiction following his discharge from the military. She joined the TVPD and started to work her way up, wanting to join the Special Victims Unit so she could still work with children and help them.

When things got to be too much to handle with Antonio and basically being a single parent anyway, she filed for divorce (about two years ago) and sole custody of their kids. She's pretty bitter about how all of that went down but is focused more on making sure the kids have a good life than anything. They're currently 7 and 5, respectively.

She's been an SVU detective for about a year now and while she has a very general knowledge of there being gang activity in the area, she's not aware of Antonio's connection to Los Santos or the cartel in general

Personality-wise, she's pretty worldly and loves to learn, so you can almost always find her turning mundane things into educational, interactive experiences for her kids. She's got a good heart, but she's definitely had it rough over the last eight or so years with her marriage. She's perceived and internalized Antonio's unwillingness to prioritize his family as some kind of statement of her worth, and though she's been working on her insecurities through therapy, it's ultimately made her somewhat guarded when it comes to letting people in too close. She's also seen some of the worst there is to see because of her work, so she's determined to try making the world a better place for the next generations. If she sees you being a dick to kids, she'll absolutely wreck your shit. She takes her work very seriously she's fine with being the bad guy if necessary, especially if it means making sure people get shit done.

All that said, pls love on her.

The Dragon Reborn: Chapters 4-5

a shorter post today because I need to switch and read a different book this week!

Perrin has dreams! Bad dreams! It kind of looks like the Forsaken (the Dark One's Super Special Band) are haunting his dreams trying to get him to turn to their side.

There's been some cool stuff about how integral all three ta'veren are. The dreams have said stuff like "three threads woven into one strand share the same fate" and "remove one leg and the tripod falls". They're bound together by fate! By accident of birth! By their years spent together (because the longer a ta'veren spends around you, the more they can affect your life! I'm normal about this!). Like, yeah, Rand is important as the Dragon Reborn but he's not the only important person.

Perrin is struggling with violence being the answer. He's equated the wolves with violence, which I think is unfair, but also understand how he arrived at that conclusion.

anyway, he wakes up to find that Trollocs and Fades are attacking their camp (and if he had listened to the wolves he would've known that already, perrin)

The wolves come to their aid and they fight off the forces of darkness.

Also, Rand has been isolating himself because he feels very responsible for people and also extremely dangerous to be around and also is still struggling with people treating him like a lord.

Also there's the whole "your magic will drive you mad" stuff happening to him, poor guy.

"Do you know what I did during the fight?" Still staring into the distance, Rand addressed the night. "Nothing! Nothing useful. [. . .] Saidin filled me till I thought I'd explode like fireworks. I had to channel it somewhere, get rid of it before it burned me up, and I found myself thinking about pulling the mountain down and burying the Trollocs. I almost tried. That was my fight. Not against the Trollocs. Against myself. To keep from burying us all under the mountain."

I'm sensing a theme.

Moiraine has been Healing people and also:

"Most of the wolves who were hurt made their own way to the forest," Moiraine said, knuckling her back and stretching, "but I Healed those I could find." Perrin gave her a sharp look, yet she seemed to be just making conversation.

I like her a normal amount. More reasons I like her:

"'The blood of the Dragon Reborn on the rocks of Shayol Ghul will free mankind from the Shadow.' Isn't that what the Prophecies of the Dragon say?" "Who told you that?" Moiraine said sharply. "If you could get me to Shayol Ghul now," Rand said drowsily, "by Waygate or Portal Stone, there could be an end to it. No more dying. No more dreams. No more." "If it were as simple as that," Moiraine said grimly, "I would, one way or another[.]"

Rand, if it were as easy as killing you somewhere specific, Moiraine would have taken you there immediately and killed you with no hesitation.

I do also like Rand. He's going through some stuff.

Rand looked up at the Warder, and surprisingly, all of his bitterness seemed to be gone. "I will fight the best I can," he said. "Because there's no one else, and it has to be done, and the duty is mine. I'll fight, but I do not have to like what I've become."

All of these children need a good night's rest. (sans horrible dreams)

I don't know yet what I think about Min hanging out because destiny told her she was going to love Rand. I haven't seen them interact at all yet, so I'm holding back judgment on that whole *waves hands* situation.

Site 0: A little spacey in the head since they handle unreality based scps and sometimes it gets to them. They switch between extremely observant and "dude, there's this thing behind you, it's round and dark and has a little pointy thing on its face. It makes a weird sound." "bitch that's a crow." ''oh." Oldest sibling but only site 1 and Foundation remembers that fact

Site 1: Responsible sister, is considered the eldest of all the site even though her sibling 0 is right over there. Second in command in the entire operation right next to Foundation themselves but often acts as head since Foundation is busy with handling Ci/Goc and also the paperwork part. Really wants to disappear into a wall.

Site 5: They are the definition of "Sometimes i still hear their voice." "Hey I'm not dead yet!" Since an scp has messed with their life and made everyone think they're dead. (In reference to Scp-4182) They’re not dead, they're literally sitting in the same room as the family.

Site 06-3: There were originally two other site 6 but they're both dead due to containment breaches/the area turns objects into spiders (?? I don't get it) Currently, they're not a big fan of being the third site named 6 but only having easy to contain humanoid scps is a good trade off. Still sad about the number of formal Scp employees being sent to them. I feel like they have decent social interactions with everyone in their site and family.

Site 11: They are very good at furnishing houses on the account that all humanoid scps not yet assigned to a containment site goes to them and they want to make a good impression. Also, they're pretty strong since a good amount of the time, the scps try to escape from their houses and it's up to them to catch them. Perhaps a theater kid and a major pet lover.

Site 14: "420 what you smoking-" Okay but they're the ones who have to deal with the Goc and Ci's bullshit, check new employees so the foundation doesn't accident hire a agent, have a sped dial for therapists, make sure all electronics are at tip top shape, handle phone calls on anomalous sightings- They tend to crack jokes during important family talks since that's what they always do with stressed callers.

Site 15: Actual site that handles electronics, the offical IT worker in the foundation, and has the magical touch of making every device suddenly work by just touching it.

Site 17: Second biggest site next to site 19. Is "this" close to losing it with the Goc and Ci for the amount of times they’ve been attacked for their precious scps. Almost always in a cast of some sort but that doesn't stop them from kicking ass. Constantly complain to Site 1 about their father's sucky ass dating pool along with Site 19.

Site 18: They love all the animal scp even though over half of them can totally kill them, and take care to make the entire process as easy for both, themselve and the scp. Probably has a lot of normal pets. Isn't the site that handles biological research.

Site 19: Biggest site of them all, problem child and absolutely despises Ci. They're almost always injured somewhere on their body and it's functionally mandatory for them to be in a hospital bed at least twice a week. Also complains about their father's dating life, openly, to their dad. Things get veryyy awkward sometimes.

Site 23: The site that handles biological research. Has a lot of dead/inactive spcs as well as animal scps. At some point was dumped with a few humanoid scps but they don't really care. Probably the first to really bond with the Goc about just killing the super ultra dangerous anomalies but their dad wouldn't approve.

Site 28: Get them artwork/artifact scps, which is somewhat easier than holding a living scp. But man, why the hell do they have to work with an apartment building as their space? At least their siblings get much better spaces to work in.

Site 34: They don't really specialize in any sort of work, sometimes they handle medicine for their other siblings, sometimes they have to keep an immortal rose that destroyed a shop that one time. They know also know Spanish.

Site 36: They are doing a very convincing military base look for their area, they hold scps, honestly, there's like 12 other sites just like them. They do also have to live with a village that may or may not be alive and needs to eat but they're doing okay! (Fear)

Site 38: Pulling a really good "I am completely normal" look. Only contains inanimate objects scps, is also assigned to keep watch over Alexylva University. They do like space and star watching on their free time.

Site 41: They pretend to not exist. Why? Cus all their scps tend to be hard to remember or to spread information and their grand plan is to also act like they don't exist.

Site 43: If no one else can contain a scp, just send it to 43 they'll know what to do! Probably has the most crackhead ideas for containing scps and you know what? It's actually somehow working. Not many of their siblings like how batshit their ideas are or how it's working but if it gets the job done, then they can't complain

Site 44: They study everything based on folklore or cryptids. They are the cryptid hunters that everyone's been joking about and they will find bigfoot/j

Site 45: Scps that have potential to be weaponized for the Foundation or be used in technological advancement are sent for 45 to test out. They've also been forced to live in the basement as a young site/hj

Site 45 (i know i already wrote about 45 but there's two of them): Got all religious and mythological scps. They were a huge mythology bust as a kid but now they pray that Heracules isn't real, they do not want to try to contain a man that killed a 7 headed hydra.

Site 54: Is very stressed on the account that all their scps are partially uncontainable, please, sometimes give them a good message and a blanket. They're also ridiculously skilled at anything relating to combat.

Site 55: If site 14 has Goc and Ci, then they get Wondertainment. Theyre the ones at the centre of the Goi research, which leaves uh, a scarring impression on their dad's dating life. They also can also cook since they are disguised as a food cannery factory in the daytime. "By day I cann food, by night i deal with Wondertainment and their mother fucking toys!!!"

Site 56: They also hold a lot of scps since they keep on taking more and more responsibilities. They don't know how that happened but they can't back out of this. Please, they just had to contain the kraken, what happened?

Site 62: Bad and Naughty dimensional scps are sent to 62 for containment. They had to keep a door locked. How did everything get so complicated?

Site 64: Their job is to monitor a forest and also a Goi that works with anomalous events and creatures in the forest. They also research material synthetics whatever that means.

Site 65: They work as a cement factory and also educate new scientists on what's an anomalous animal and what's just a normal animal (at least, that's what i got from their description…)

Site 66: The evil sibling to site 23/j/lh Okay, they also work with biological and organic scps but they don't put I'm the same care as their siblings.

Site 73: Luckiest site period. Only has to research safe class scps. It's the fucking dream for site 19, 17, and 54. Also has to manage satellites but at least they don't have any Keter class scps.

Site 76: Got all the man made scps and they often sit in their chair going, "How the fuck did someone do this to you?!" While talking to an anomalous tennis racket.

Site 77: The poor site has been through a lot, got born in 1924, proceed to get destroyed in world War 2 and a containment breach before being rebuilt in 1944. (Wait how would that work- gets shot) They got better though! :D

Site 79: Also a little spacey in the head like site 0, but no one can blame them when their work consists of dream anomalies, video game anomalies, and logic puzzle. That gotta be taxing on their brain. Would you believe me if I say that they also have a Goi to keep track of?

Site 81: Was only assigned to scp 2812, then proceed tk be one of the biggest sites in the Midwest. Also has a lot of Mtf for some reason.

Site 83: Luckily got safe and Euclid scps and is somehow not stressed and actually very relaxed! They help alleviate stress off their siblings as best they could.

Bio site 84: Contains most anomalous Australian animals and any animals imported to them. They also take good care of the animals.

Research site 87: Research anomalies in sloths pit. Like many of their siblings… sorry I don't know what to put here.

Site 88: Holds humanoid scps and also a couple high value scp objects. Could be a research site but chosen not to.

I saw a good essay about it before regarding how Majima after going through the abuse he's faced only Knows / understands how to project that same sentiment with the most obvious example being Nishida who has almost like a looney tunes esque dynamic with him. I looooove the terrible recycling dynamic of abuse from Majima to his men and that sounds really evil but i mean like. its an extremely interesting and Real Thing to portray (completely on accident!) and explore. and i can't even act like i'd be better if i were him sometimes. i know damn well his boys are incompetent (everyone on earth is) and/or pains in the ass (definitely Aratani, probably Minami, but he dont mean it) and physical violence is part of their way of life in this fictionalised mega-gang. in a twisted way violence is more than just that, it's the solution to everything, it's the crux of everything, it's care for those who need to be able to stick up for themselves to survive and it's also a burden by way of Fighting Game Protagonist Syndrome. at the end of the day the abuse is still abuse, but you see some interesting perspectives with this kind of framework in that world..... including folks who'd enthusiastically participate in the looney-tunes Slapsticked role, like my take on Minami. Nishida too, but i don't think he's enthusiastic, just begrudgingly accepting of things...

Speaking of Aratani, i think he's a good example of someone who actually wants the patriarch seat. the pursuit of power is like his whole deal. Gets considerable focus and text(dialogue) acknowledgement. Minami's whole deal is being goofy, he just also so happens to have considerable power both physically and in the yakuza hierarchy..... bullshit as his role may very well be......... and it's only barely noticed. the pros of being a joke i spose. he's treated, and acts, too nonchalant to give me the impression of gunning for the top. with the existence of other Majimagumi men like Aratani to compare, that just exasperates it for me. he wants to be cool, and that's all

and yknow what..... the fun thing is...... is that Majima gets stories told about him. they get told all over. so much so that resident under-rock-dweller Kiryu hears about them. Minami doesn't know shit from fuck about his boss but i bet he eats those stories the fuck up. true or not, Majima's prowess speaks volumes on it's own... he's the Boss for a Reason..... stories get told about people who Matter. he'd totally be all over that. Wanna Be Somebodyism is terminal and it's got him by the balls. too bad he's not destined to be anybody more than a side character in this series!

My blorbo from my brain...I think the Tenno as a whole are fascinating characterwise and I'm super happy we're finally getting some insight into their lives before being Tenno and during the disaster, even if the focus appears to be shifting in future updates. Rain checking both of these because player character syndrome = not many lines and there's so much RP in me and my friends' shared server to dig around for specific cool stuff. I do remember a specific ingame incident that happened while the trio were together at the dojo, where Kepler started regaining her memories and admitted some of her fears to the others--and the real name she'd just remembered. "That was her name. The name of the kid who got on the Zariman."

The Tenno has massive player character syndrome so they don't really interact with anyone. I'd really love to have more interaction and expand on the relationship with the Lotus, and also Ordis not just because I'm biased but because they have a history of kind of being an ass to him. With Kepler specifically it's always her friends Glace and Jhia. The three of them are extremely mentally ill peas in a pod and I really ought to write and share some of their shenanigans sometime.

Kepler gets the zoomies worse than a Siamese cat. If she wants to be able to sleep at all, she's usually got to completely exhaust herself first (and it helps her not be alone with her thoughts for too long, plus the nightmares...). She'll usually do something physical in her true body right before going to bed--stretching, running around, sparring, practicing stances with weapons that are definitely too heavy for her true form to carry, anything just to get the excess energy out so she won't be fidgeting all night. She has also occasionally been seen just before bed yelling and swearing at something to get out of her pillow pile, that's not yours, wall fuck.

Kepler needs to sleep less frequently than a normal human, once every few days is good enough. She sleeps curled up in a self-made nest of blankets and cushions on the floor of her personal quarters, usually with one of the kavats nearby. She doesn't sleep particularly well even after she's completely exhausted herself--she's hyper-vigilant and will wake up at almost any sound or touch, and she's very prone to nightmares.

– First thing after waking up headcanons

Kepler usually wakes up a little disoriented and panicked, but that quickly fades and she's quick to be up and on her feet. After that it's ping her friends, check Nightwave and anything she's left on the foundry, look over her weapon and frame loadouts, and immediately start another busy day of war crimes.

Kepler grew up around a lot of Corpus, since her parents were engineers who sold their services to those who could afford it, and passed that good fortune on to those who couldn't. As such, she's actually pretty comfortable in Corpus installations (the old ones, not Granum's) and Fortuna, and spends a lot of time at the Perrin enclave on the relays because it feels like home.

Other than that and her orbiter itself, there's also a room in her clan dojo that has become a very meaningful place for her and her friends. It is a wide, spacious room with a tall ceiling, the floor seeded with synthetic grass in six squares with the metal floor running between them. These squares are each filled with a different sort of plant--several Earth trees, a patch of bamboo, lunar trees and lunar pitchers. There's greenery hanging from the walls and rocks and benches scattered around, a waterfall flowing in each of the room's corners. There's also a couple of statues near the entrance detailing various accomplishments of the three Tenno.

...and, of course, there is the holographic neon green text reading "BUTTS" hovering in front of a statue of the Lotus' shield sigil.

Kepler doesn't remember which of them put it there, but it's led to the whole place being referred to as "The Butts Garden", and they've actually had some rather important bonding moments in there.

Game 259 - Cyberpunk 2077 / Phantom Liberty by CD Projekt Red

What did I think it was at first? When the game originally came out, all of my friends were super excited and I was not because I didn’t have the tech to play it. As we all know by now, it was a huge flop and everyone was very disappointed. However, they remade it and it was better and stronger than before. I only played it after the reboot. I think it’s a roleplaying game?

I wasn’t super involved in the universe of Cyberpunk, but I did have some exposure before playing. I played the tabletop RPG (which was fun!) and watched Edgerunners the Netflix series. The world of Cyberpunk is bright and shiny and gritty and desperate and hopeful. I liked the world at first, but the experience of playing Cyberpunk led me to love it.

How was the character creator? There’s a lot of detail to the character creator. You can design V for look pretty much however you want them to. They’re stuck with a binary male/female frame and voice combo (though you can mix and match) but you have a lot of choices for skin tone, hair style, makeup, genitals, and otherwise. You can also change them up throughout the game!

You have some other options to customize your experience throughout the game as well. It’s a RPG, so you have choices in how you approach characters and situations. There are a lot of lovable (and love-to-hate) characters throughout the game. You can pick your preferred apartment, vehicle, love interest (with 2 het options and 2 same-gender only options), weapon load out, talent trees, outfits, skills, and cybernetic augmentations. I feel like the way I played V was unique and nobody else would have quite the same experience I did.

There’s a point at which you interact with your V as another character, and I felt the game did a good job making her feel like “me”.

How was the game? I loved living in this world for a bit.

Night City feels real and alive! There are people everywhere and there’s always something happening. The game starts with a tutorial that sets up some of the key events in the story, and from there you kind of just get dumped I to Night City to figure out how to survive.

I don’t normally play a first person game, and I was originally upset to see that I could only do a third person view of this game when driving. However, a lot of the effects are really sold by being in first person, and it kind of drives home the choices V is making and what their world is like.

I really enjoyed exploring the world of Cyberpunk and seeing how V’s story played out. There are many wonderful characters that you can build your relationships with - in particular, I enjoyed seeing how V’s relationship with the other main protagonist built and changed. Some days I went out to work on the main quest, but I had several play sessions where I just worked on side quests and dove more into the setting. I don’t typically 100% games but I did finish every side quest available to me (but not every gig).

I really love how the world feels fleshed out. I enjoyed the in-game music stations and radio. I still listen to Us Cracks in my real life car, haha. The advertising and graffiti art also serve to develop the world and underscore the depravity of the future world. There are truly no good choices in 2077, just ways that you can try to survive. Some quests were super thought provoking and made me question my values and beliefs. Some quests have you driving a man with a botched penis implant to the doctor. Both extremes are here.

I played both the base game and the Phantom Liberty expansion. I liked them both and enjoyed having the ability to move between the original game and expansion storyline. I noticed once I installed the expansion that my game got a little glitchier, though.

What did I not love? Driving.

I suck at driving in games like this one and L.A. Noire. There is no way to escape driving in many quests. I ended up playing the whole street racing story to interact with the trans character and it was miserable and I hated it the whole time. Motorcycles were okay, but I really think that there should be an auto-drive on baby difficulty (which is what I played.)

Some of the voice acting performances also lack polish - especially in Phantom Liberty. The mocap work is generally good, but I found that Idris Elba looked like you were constantly kicking a dog in front of him.

At 75 hours and $25 plus $30 for Phantom Liberty, was it really worth it? I haven’t loved a game as much as Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines in a while. This game recaptured that same feeling for me. I honestly miss it. If you aren’t sold for some reason, you can get a hairless cat that looks like my cat. The original poor reviews don’t resemble today’s game in any way. It’s honestly treasure.

Whatever had you focused on your screen made Ran jealous as he watched your fingers drum across the keyboard quickly and occasionally huff and puff at whatever work took your attention from him. On the occasion though, he did get the joy of hearing your sweet voice asking him questions regarding his day, something about getting food when you were done, and how soon that would be.

He waited for almost an hour to watch you finish some sort of essay or whatnot that you were typing up for your friend. He hated that you took the friend up on such a deal; 5000 yen for a paper that could've been half-assed and still passed.

"Ran, you paying attention? I'm almost done with this, but the ending is killing me... You know a lot about Tokyo's drug trafficking stuff, right? I know it's a sensitive topic but is there anything you could shed light on for me that will keep me from having to look it up online?"

Your hopeful gaze made him feel so good, after fifteen minutes of not having heard a single peep from you between you asking him those strings of questions to now, and it bothered him.

A long sigh slipped from his lips, eyes rolling and he shook his head. "Nope."

Kindest person in the entire cast. He offers Doppo calming tea at their very first meeting despite Doppo being an utter stranger. Why does Riou have it? Who the hell knows? He just wants to feed everyone he comes across. The grandma instinct

I have ultra-intense feelings about topics related to war, so I find it hella compelling that a character whose entire sense of identity is based around being a soldier takes issue with war and violence towards other people. He isn't willing to take the slightest chance to hurt someone else and tries to restrain his teammates if they go too far. The person he respects most is one who questions their orders to do harm and urges him to do the same. This strength of Riou's moral character is my favorite thing about him, and I wish, I wish, I WISH we got to see more of it and its development.

He and Dice are homies and he willingly takes care of Dice and gives him money with zero expectation to ever get it back. He and Dice respect one another so much. Hell to the fucking yeah.

Ramuda

I keep talking about this, but when left to his own devices, he keeps on acting again and again in ways that are contrary to the way he was raised that actually show care and affection for other people. That is a hell to the yes from me

Man he works so hard for his fashion line which he does really seem to care about. He's got a crap ton of other shit on his plate but he puts his heart and soul into that damn fashion line. Good for him

His interactions with Gentarou and Dice are just phenomenal. He cares about them and their happiness so much. Beyond simply taking care of Dice, he takes care of Gentarou too. Remember when he met Gentarou and one of the first things out of his mouth was that Gentarou was kind for telling the lies he does? Ramuda got a bunch of information on this random dude from Chuuouku, and his first words out of the gate were shit that cut right to the core of Gentarou and told Gentarou something he needed to hear. The creativity he shoes in all of his acting moments is top class. Love his sense of humor; he's fucking funny as hell to translate too

He needs to take better care of himself, but there's a good reason why Doppo and Hifumi trust him to the extent that they do and why Ramud and Hitoya trusted him as much as they did

Man. Okay his friendship with Ramuda. Not the falling out, but the part where Jakurai realized he was overstepping Ramuda's boundaries, backed off, and then devoted his energy to making sure Ramuda knew it wasn't his fault that Jakurai overstepped Ramuda's boundary and that Ramuda wasn't bad for having a boundary/sensitivity in the first place. Also, seriously - we can all agree that Ramuda is fucking obnoxious, right? I say this with utmost affection, but he would be so damn hard to get along with for most people. But Jakurai has virtually endless patience for him and keeps letting Ramuda learn new things and experience new things with him in a safe environment. That's good. That's really fucking good

Hifumi

The way he talks is so fucking goofy god bless. He sounds like what you'd get if you asked an alien to describe a teenager with their only knowledge to base this off of being a collection of 90s rom coms with bad subtitles

I like Juushi a lot (he's a good kid) but I like a lot of other characters more since Juushi doesn't push a lot of buttons for me BUT I am very grateful that he pushes buttons/resonates with so many other people. It's wonderful that he's here for the people who need him or want his story in their life

Hitoya

The conviction with which Hitoya talks is fantastic. He could convince the most wretched cast members to turn their lives around. Now go do that on Jakurai

For all of his shit about being inferior to Jakurai, that didn't stop Hitoya from being the friend that Jakurai needed all along. It didn't stop him from caring about Jakurai's well-being, and it was finally that care - and the notion that maybe Jakurai didn't think Hitoya was worthy enough to care about him - which drove their friendship apart. Then with all his shit about telling Juushi to get out of his office and stop crying, Hitoya cares about this kid enough to give him the resources to fix the issues causing him to cry. And for all his shit about not standing Kuukou, he gives Kuukou an opportunity to help someone else and finally prove his worth. Hitoya cares so fucking much and puts up a front to look like a cool guy. That's bullshit, of course, because the coolest thing of all is caring as hard as he does. It's a good thing his loved ones already know the extent of his love hiding behind that exterior
