#and jobs outside the healthcare industry need to pay

This anti-abuse training I’m taking (in a healthcare context) fundamentally demonstrates why there needs to be a systemic solution to abuse in healthcare. If the main issue that causes abuse in healthcare setting me is overworked and burned out workers (bc they are picking up too many shifts either due to the place being understaffed or bc they aren’t paid enough to work an appropriate number of hours), then the #of hours per week/day someone works needs to be capped and their pay needs to be dramatically increased (to both reduce the need of overtime and to actually get people to work in the field). The solution of the worker enforcing work/life balance and managing stress when management is constantly guilting them into picking up additional shifts and not paying them sufficiently is absolutely bullshit and not realistic.

AN OPEN LETTER to THE U.S. CONGRESS
Put the Good Jobs for Good Airports standards in the FAA reauthorization bill!
104 so far! Help us get to 250 signers!
I’m calling on you to stand with working people, passengers and our communities by supporting Good Jobs for Good Airports standards (GJGA) in the FAA reauthorization bill. Airports should and can be strong, vibrant drivers of good jobs in every part of our country. The Good Jobs for Good Airports standards are central to that mission and our nation’s future prosperity. Billions of our public dollars are invested in our nation’s aviation system every year, and we must ensure that our public resources serve the public good. That includes ensuring airports better serve the needs of our families, our passengers, our communities and the airport service workers who make it all possible.
It is evident that our air travel industry is in crisis. From record flight cancellations during summer travel peaks to mountains of lost luggage during the holiday travel season. Airports are critical publicly-funded infrastructure vital to the health of our local communities and global economy, but right now airports aren't working the way they should for travelers or airport service workers — a largely Black, brown, multiracial and immigrant service workforce. These working people, including cleaners, wheelchair agents, baggage handlers, concessionaires and ramp workers, keep airports safe and running smoothly even through a global pandemic, climate disasters and busy travel seasons. Yet many are underpaid and underprotected--even as some major airlines rake in record profit and billions of our tax dollars are invested in our national air travel system.
Domestic passenger numbers increased by 80% between 2020 and 2021, total industry employment fell by nearly 14%, leaving airport service workers to sometimes clean entire airplanes in as little as five minutes as many take on additional responsibilities outside of their typical job duties. Meanwhile, wages have barely budged for airport service workers in 20 years. The Good Jobs for Good Airports standards has the power to transform workers’ lives by ensuring airport service workers have the pay and benefits they need to care for their families.
The Good Jobs for Good Airports standards would help build a stronger, safer, more resilient air travel industry by making airport service jobs good jobs with living wages and benefits like affordable healthcare for all airport workers. Airport service workers at more than 130 covered airports would be supported through established wage and benefit standards, putting money back into hundreds of local economies and helping families thrive. If passed over 73% of wage increases will go to workers making $20 or less, estimates show.
I urge you to include the Good Jobs for Good Airports standards in the FAA reauthorization bill, and help ensure our public money serves the public good.

Environment & Natural Disasters
As we've all noticed with increasing alarm, natural disasters are occurring with more violence and regularity. The following organizations focus on responding to the climate crisis, protecting the planet, and helping with natural disaster relief.
For more information on donation methods and accepted currencies, please refer to our list of organizations page.
Clean Air Task Force
As we've seen for a long time now but especially this year with constant natural disasters and alarming news from all over the world, climate change is real and we need to do something about it. Over the past 25 years, CATF, a group of climate and energy experts who think outside the box to solve the climate crisis, has pushed for technology innovations, legal advocacy, research, and policy changes. Their goal is to achieve a zero-emissions, high-energy planet at an affordable cost.
Coalition for Rainforest Nations
Boasting a voluntary membership of over 50 rainforest nations, CORN provides a single voice to countries that didn’t cause the climate emergency but nevertheless feel the brunt of it daily. CORN originated the global conservation mechanism Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+) to stop deforestation. REDD+ was successfully mandated in the Paris Climate Agreement (2015) and covers 90% of the world’s tropical rainforests.
Direct Relief
Direct Relief provides humanitarian relief regardless of politics, religious or ethnic identities, or ability to pay and prepares the most vulnerable communities worldwide for more frequent, destructive emergencies. When disasters strike, they respond effectively and efficiently to provide requested medical equipment, medicine, and supplies to locally run healthcare facilities and projects.
International Rescue Committee
Founded in 1933, the IRC is a long-standing trusted partner in supporting those whose lives have been upended by sudden violence, political or natural. They are no stranger to areas of disaster and conflict throughout the world as they currently work in 40 countries. The IRC provides emergency aid and long-term assistance, including refugee settlement, and focuses on health, education, economic well-being, empowerment, and safety.
Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF)
Odds are you’ve heard of MSF, the global organization that sends trained medical professionals to the places they’re needed most. MSF has been working globally for over 50 years, providing medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare—no matter what. They’re guided by principles of independence, impartiality, and neutrality to global political policies or movements.
National Disaster Search Dog Foundation
This organization rescues, trains, and places abused or abandoned dogs with first responders at no cost to rescue humans in disasters. Search dogs are one of the best resources for locating survivors buried under wreckage, and this is a great solution for dogs whose personalities might make them unsuitable as family pets but ideal for search and rescue.
Waterkeeper Alliance
In 1966, this movement was started by a band of blue-collar fishermen pushing back against industrial polluters, and their tough spirit remains intact through the 300+ local community groups that make up the global Waterkeeper Alliance today. The Alliance works to ensure, preserve, and protect clean and abundant water for all people and creatures. Their programs are diverse, spanning from patrolling waterways against polluters to advocating for environmental laws in courtrooms and town halls and educating in classrooms.
World Central Kitchen
Started by Chef José Andrés, WCK makes sure that people are fed in the wake of natural disasters. Their programs advance human and environmental health, offer access to professional culinary training, create jobs, and improve food security. WCK also teaches food safety and cooking classes to native people who live where disasters have occurred, so they may open restaurants and support the local economy more permanently. You can follow where WCK is currently on the ground assisting and feeding people affected by natural and man-made crises here.

U.S. Home Healthcare Industry Continues Steady Growth
Tumblr media
U.S. Home Healthcare to Remain a High-Demand Industry
The demand for home healthcare services in the United States is projected to continue growing steadily over the next several years. With an aging population and emphasis on reducing healthcare costs, home care allows seniors and others with medical needs to receive treatment in the comfort of their own homes rather than in hospitals or other facilities. This convenience and cost savings have made home care a preferred option for many. Industry analysts expect these trends to further drive growth of the home healthcare industry. The home healthcare market was valued at around $196 billion in 2020 and is forecasted to reach over $251 billion by 2026, registering a compound annual growth rate of over 4% during this period according to research firm Grand View Research. Some of the key factors fueling this continued expansion include: Growing Senior Population The number of older adults aged 65 and above has been increasing rapidly as the large Baby Boomer generation reaches retirement age. Almost 20% of the U.S. population will be over 65 by 2030. As people age they are more likely to need some form of long-term care, which can often be provided most effectively at home through skilled nurses and caregivers. This significant demographic shift will underpin demand for home healthcare services in the coming years. Preference for Aging at Home Most seniors want to remain in their own homes and communities as they grow older rather than moving to assisted living facilities or nursing homes. Home healthcare allows this by providing acute and chronic medical care, as well as companionship and daily living assistance directly in clients' residences. This preference translates to increased funding allocated towards programs that promote independent living. U.S. Home Healthcare Provides Lower Cost and Improved Outcomes Home care is generally much more affordable compared to institutional care, costing up to 30-50% less on average per patient according to Medicare claims data. It also helps avoid costly hospital readmissions and yields better health outcomes in many cases, making it appealing both for patients and those paying medical bills. Such cost efficiency has persuaded more insurers to cover home health services. Technological Advances Enabling Care at Home New remote patient monitoring devices, telehealth solutions, and home medical equipment are enhancing the types and complexity of treatments that can effectively be provided outside of clinical settings. Advances like these continue to expand the range of conditions for which home care is suitable, increasing demand. Meanwhile, home health agencies are embracing digital tools to streamline operations and deliver quality services in a cost-effective manner. High Demand for Home Health Aides and Nurses To meet the growing need, more trained professionals specializing in home care delivery will be required. The Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates U.S. employment of Home Health and Personal Care Aides to increase by 47% between 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations. Similarly, Registered Nurses are projected to see 17% employment growth during this period due to expansion of home healthcare programs. This level of workforce demand signals a bright future for this sector in providing jobs.

Navigating the Maze: A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding Health Insurance
Health insurance is a complex and often confusing topic, yet it's arguably one of the most important aspects of personal financial planning. It acts as a safety net, protecting you from the potentially devastating financial burden of unexpected medical expenses. This guide aims to demystify the world of health insurance, providing you with a comprehensive understanding of its intricacies and empowering you to make informed decisions for yourself and your family.
What is Health Insurance?
In essence, health insurance is a contract between you and an insurance company. You pay a regular premium, and in return, the insurance company agrees to cover a portion or all of your medical expenses. The specific terms and conditions of coverage vary greatly depending on the policy you choose.
Types of Health Insurance:
There are several types of health insurance available, each designed to meet different needs:
Individual Health Insurance: This is a policy purchased by an individual, independent of any employer or group. It's ideal for self-employed individuals, freelancers, and those who are not covered through their employer.
Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance: Offered by employers to their employees, this is often the most affordable option. It's usually offered as a group plan with various options and coverage levels.
Government-Sponsored Health Insurance: Programs like Medicare (for seniors and individuals with disabilities) and Medicaid (for low-income individuals and families) provide subsidized healthcare coverage.
Short-Term Health Insurance: Designed for temporary coverage needs, this type of insurance often comes with limited coverage and may exclude pre-existing conditions.
Key Features of Health Insurance:
Premium: The monthly or annual fee you pay to maintain your health insurance policy.
Deductible: The amount you must pay out-of-pocket for medical expenses before your insurance coverage kicks in.
Co-pay: A fixed amount you pay for each doctor's visit, prescription, or other healthcare service.
Co-insurance: A percentage of the medical bill that you are responsible for paying after your deductible is met.
Out-of-Pocket Maximum: The maximum amount you'll pay for covered healthcare services in a year.
Choosing the Right Health Insurance:
Selecting the right health insurance policy requires careful consideration of your individual needs and circumstances. Here are some factors to consider:
Your health and medical history: If you have pre-existing conditions, you'll need a policy that covers them.
Your budget: Premiums, deductibles, and co-pays vary widely. Choose a policy that fits within your financial means.
Your location and healthcare providers: Ensure that your chosen plan covers the doctors and hospitals in your area.
Your family size: If you have dependents, you'll need a policy that provides adequate coverage for everyone.
Open Enrollment and Special Enrollment:
Most health insurance policies are purchased during an open enrollment period, typically lasting for a few months each year. Outside of open enrollment, you may be able to enroll in a plan if you experience certain life events, such as losing your job, getting married, or having a baby.
Maintaining Your Health Insurance:
Once you've chosen a policy, it's important to stay informed about your coverage and make sure you're maximizing its benefits.
Review your policy regularly: Make sure you understand your coverage, deductibles, and other terms.
Keep track of your out-of-pocket expenses: This will help you stay within your out-of-pocket maximum.
Contact your insurance company if you have any questions: They are there to help you understand your policy and navigate the healthcare system.
Beyond the Basics: Understanding the Changing Landscape
The healthcare industry is constantly evolving. Here are some key trends impacting health insurance:
The rise of high-deductible health plans (HDHPs): These plans offer lower premiums but have higher deductibles, requiring individuals to pay more out-of-pocket before their insurance kicks in.
The growth of telehealth: Virtual healthcare visits are becoming increasingly common, offering convenience and cost-effectiveness.
Focus on preventive care: Health insurance plans are increasingly emphasizing preventive care, such as screenings and vaccinations, to reduce healthcare costs in the long run.
Conclusion
Navigating the world of health insurance can be daunting, but it's a crucial step in securing your financial well-being. By understanding the basics, considering your needs, and staying informed, you can make smart decisions about your healthcare coverage and ensure you have the protection you need when you need it most. Remember, health insurance isn't just about covering medical expenses, it's about peace of mind and the freedom to focus on your health and well-being.

The Benefits Of Using An Off-Site Marketing Agency
Tumblr media
Why Use An Off-Site Marketing Agency?
We all think we’re capable of doing a million things at once but rarely consider using an off-site marketing agency. We have our day job, we have hobbies, we have a side hustle, and somehow we manage to get it all done without tripping over ourselves. However, the reality is that when you wear too many hats, something will be left undone. Those tasks that fall through the cracks are often the most important ones — like making sure your marketing strategy is up-to-date and current.
Marketing takes time — between staying on top of industry trends to keeping your branding relevant to your audience; finding content writers who can speak to your brand’s personality; and designing marketing materials that stand out among competitors — there isn’t enough time in the day to do it all effectively. That’s why hiring an outside marketing agency can be a great tool for keeping up with those items you never seem to find time for anymore. Here are just a few benefits you’ll gain from hiring an off-site marketing team:
You can’t do it all.
It’s impossible to do everything yourself.
If you try, you will burn out and lose sight of your goals. You need to find the best people for each job and then work with them seamlessly as a team.
This is where an off-site marketing agency comes in. They can assist your sales team by completing tasks that take up valuable time and resources away from selling products or services.
They can save you dollars and develop your strategy.
An off-site marketing agency can help you save money on your marketing.
A common issue for small to mid-sized businesses is finding the right balance between cost and results. The more money you spend, the better your results will be. Off-site marketing agencies know this and they are able to provide you with a high level of service that has been proven effective at getting results at a fraction of the cost of traditional in-house or agency services.
Off-site marketing agencies can develop an effective strategy for your business.
They have access to a variety of tools that allow them to quickly identify what works best for their clients and what doesn’t work so well (or at all). Once they’ve identified this information, they can build strategies based on it—which ultimately leads to increased sales numbers over time!
The off-site agency can be an extra member of your marketing team, without the salary or benefits.
As a business owner, you’re probably looking for ways to save money.
You can’t think of anything more valuable for your company than saving money on anything. Off-site marketing agencies can help with that by providing additional services without adding any employees or benefits costs.
No salary costs: Your in-house marketing team is paid to do the job, but the off-site agency isn’t; therefore, you don’t have to pay them a salary.
No benefits costs: People are expensive! Healthcare premiums continue increasing every year and unemployment insurance is at an all-time high—this means that every dollar spent on employee benefits is one less dollar going toward helping grow your business! But not when it comes to an off-site agency. They don’t need coverage because they aren’t actually employed by you; instead, they work for your off-site agency partner.
No office space: Less money spent on office space means more revenue left over that goes straight into growing your business! So considering outsourcing some tasks or even entire job roles to an off-site agency like social media management or blog writing/management could yield savings.
An off-site agency is an investment in time, too.
Marketing is a long-term game. You can’t expect results overnight, and you certainly don’t want to be spending money on efforts that aren’t helping your business grow. That’s why it makes sense to outsource some of your marketing activities to an agency that can take a strategic approach to the work they do on your behalf. A good agency will work with you to determine what’s important for your business and how they can help achieve those goals while staying within budget and time constraints.
Your off-site agency becomes an extension of your team.
You can focus on the things you love most about your business, such as managing sales and operations, while letting us handle everything else. Our team is a partner, not a vendor—so we’re invested in your success and committed to helping build lifelong relationships with your customers.
You’ve got a business to run; you need a marketing agency that works for you.
You’re a business owner. You have a business to run. You can’t do it all, so you need a marketing team that works for you.
Make sure the marketing agency you choose understands your needs and can deliver on them before hiring them. Ask questions like:
How do they get results? (We use data-based strategies.)
What are their track records? (We’ve worked with some of the best companies in our industry.)

Travel Nursing 101: A Comprehensive Guide to Starting Your Journey
Nurses have a unique opportunity offered by few other career paths: as a travel nurse, you can explore a wide variety of locations around the country while expanding your skills and being compensated well along the way.
Travel nurses are skilled healthcare workers sent to healthcare facilities and organizations throughout the US to fulfill short-term staffing roles. The traveling aspect of this job makes it a perfect choice for nurses wanting to advance their careers or simply switch up their lifestyles.
Travel nursing allows you to explore your bucket list states as you sharpen your clinical skills and build your resume—all while enjoying premium benefits and pay.
Tumblr media
What do travel nurses do?
Licensed and experienced travel nurses work as temporary staff to maintain quality patient care standards during staff shortages. They fill the gaps in the schedule, typically for weeks at a time. The standard travel nursing contract lasts for 13 weeks. However, it is common to find travel assignments between 8 and 26 weeks. Hospitals may offer to renew contracts, as well. These assignments generally last 3 to 5 weeks longer than the original contract.
The “travel” in “travel nurse” refers to working at different hospitals within their city, building a resume and a reputation among hospital administrators worldwide, and visiting other states or countries to help with surgeries and specialized procedures.
Another possible assignment could be working for a company supplying staff to community health clinics. These jobs and many more activities help nurses refine their skills and knowledge within their specialties, such as surgery, intensive care, rehabilitation, and more.
Perks of being a travel nurse
One of the most attractive aspects of travel nursing is the excellent pay. Still, travel nursing comes with other great perks, such as premium benefits packages, free housing or housing cost reimbursement, and the chance to build a reputation with the best hospitals in the country.
Here are some of the benefits you will enjoy as a travel nurse:
Unparalleled flexibility
Endless opportunities
Great pay and benefits
Living in, working in, and exploring vibrant locations
The freedom to take extended time off between contracts
Travel nursing is one of the best ways to advance your nursing career. Travel nurses are making a powerful difference in patients’ lives and in the healthcare industry. A travel nurse can work in a wide variety of healthcare settings. From bustling medical centers in large cities to small clinics in remote locations—you can make the most of your nursing specialty everywhere.
Travel nursing experience can increase your skills, making you a better candidate for future nursing jobs. Travel nurses are exposed to a wide range of patients and healthcare systems. This exposure develops their knowledge of medical conditions and treatment options. These experiences can also improve your ability to communicate effectively with various doctors, nurses, and patients, helping you become a better nurse overall.
The importance of travel nurses
The travel nurse is critical to the global healthcare system because of the constant shortage of qualified nurses in many specialty and non-specialty fields. This situation creates several vacancies employers need for temporary nurses to fill, which creates a need for highly trained nurses willing to work full-time schedules in different hospitals throughout the year.
Travel nurses are pivotal in ensuring high-quality patient care, regardless of regional shortages, remains uninterrupted. Here are some common reasons for staff shortages that travel nurses help fill:
Seasonal population surges. For example, consider retirees traveling to warmer destinations over the winter and towns outside of National Parks that see increased visitors in the summer. Ski destinations also see an exponential boost in population over the winter.
Sudden upticks in healthcare needs. Upticks in demand for healthcare services can occur in almost all locations throughout the United States during the flu and respiratory virus seasons or public health crises. Travel nurses step in to fill the gaps.
Changes in staffing needs. Facilities often use travelers to cover their staff’s paid parental leave, vacation time, or disability leave. Travel nurses fill in when staff nurses leave their positions temporarily or permanently for various reasons.
Travel nurses are also important in rural or specialized healthcare institutions where there aren’t enough nurses in the area with the required education or experience in specific fields. Since there is such a high demand for qualified registered nurses with different specialties and training, travel nurses are some of the most in-demand healthcare professionals in the country.
The state of chronic medical care demands that seasoned nursing veterans keep moving from one hospital to another while staying up to date with the latest developments in patient care. This demand also makes travel nursing a highly sought-after career since the need for them comes with high compensation and speedier professional growth.
What it takes to be a travel nurse
Travel nursing is about filling a need. Travel nurses must meet the same educational and clinical requirements as all registered nurses (RNs). This includes:
Earning an associate degree in nursing (ADN) or a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)
Passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN exam)
Acquiring a state nursing license
Most travel nursing agencies require a minimum of twelve to eighteen months of nursing experience. Some recommend having at least two years of experience in your specialty before travel nursing. Certain specialties, such as renal care, telemetry, oncology, labor and delivery, pediatrics, and emergency or intensive care, can have even more specific requirements.
Education: Registered nurses must hold a nursing degree from an accredited university before taking the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN®) and applying for a license. Others earn an associate degree in nursing (ADN) or a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).
Experience: After passing the NCLEX and meeting licensing requirements, you can practice as an entry-level nurse. In general, hospitals prefer travel nurses to have at least 1–2 years of recent acute care experience in the specialty in which they wish to work.
Documentation: Typically, you must provide references and documentation of licenses and certifications.
Travel nursing skills
While the core principles of nursing care remain consistent, no matter where you work, as a travel nurse, you must be able to quickly integrate into a new healthcare team, understand and adapt to varying patient demographics, and quickly learn state-specific healthcare norms, new charting systems, new equipment, and procedural differences between health systems.
A good travel nurse must be:
Highly skilled: You must be confident and ready to hit the ground running. Travel nurse orientations are notoriously brief. You’ll be expected to hit the floor quickly without compromising patient care.
Adaptable: Things will not go as planned, from housing to expectations on the job. Good travel nurses can adapt quickly and know who to contact at their agency to ensure they have the proper support.
Independent: The life of a travel nurse often means being away from friends and family, so you need to be comfortable going it alone occasionally.
Emotionally intelligent: It is crucial to empathize with patients from various cultural backgrounds, understand and manage their emotions in high-pressure situations, and communicate effectively with different healthcare teams.
A critical thinker: Travel nurses must swiftly assess complex situations, make sound decisions, and adapt their approaches to varying patient needs in a new environment.
Adventurous: Making new friends, learning new cities, and working with new equipment all come with the territory. So make sure you pack your sense of adventure.
Types of travel nurses
Travel nurses are usually hired per assignment or at least for agreed periods. Depending on the employer's needs, these can range from a few days to years. There are lots of options for travel nursing job opportunities. The following qualifications are often in high demand.
Registered Nurses (RNs)
The most common nursing credential is the registered nurse (RN). RNs can fall into a wide range of categories, such as helping people with cancer, heart disease, surgical procedures, post-operative rehabilitation, and much more. They are primarily found in hospitals, doctor’s offices, clinics, and nursing homes. The breadth of their knowledge and education makes them desirable for any healthcare provider to give care to patients with all sorts of health needs.
Nurse Practitioners (NPs)
The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) defines nurse practitioners as licensed, autonomous clinicians who manage people’s conditions and prevent disease. NPs are often specialized practitioners focused on specific types of patients, such as pediatric and women’s health, or subspecialized in dermatology, oncology, etc.
The main difference between RNs and NPs is the educational background of each. A registered nurse needs an associate’s degree in nursing, while the minimum requirement to become an NP is a master’s degree.
Since being an NP allows for greater independence, they are considered primary care providers. And NP can take on a more holistic view of healthcare, providing physical and emotional care. Frequently, an RN will become an NP to advance their careers and get better career opportunities and higher salaries.
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)
Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) perform more basic nursing duties generally and are responsible for the patient's comfort. On the other hand, an RN will take on duties such as administering medication, giving out treatments, and even offering medical advice to the general public. While these two jobs may be similar, RNs and LPNs have less in common than it might seem.
An LPN usually takes on a more basic range of care responsibilities, which generally means comforting the patient, treating minor injuries and pain, interpreting charts, inserting IVs, and taking vital signs. Read More...

wow! That was such an enlightening and beautiful answer to my question, thank you so very much, and congratulations on graduating soon🎉! I felt that same thrill of recognition seeing the people and their homes on the show, because yes poverty really is the same all over. I live in a blue collar town in northeast America, with forested hills instead of wetlands and logging instead of fishing, but I look at their clothes, at the places they hang out, at the porches and lawns filled with clutter and machine parts nestled between the trees, at the small dark house interiors, and I think "this all could've been filmed down the street from me." It must look depressing to others but I find comfort in the familiarity. We're all just surviving as best we can nestled in the detritus of abandoned industry and reclaiming nature, keeping our lives manageably small with little daily tasks and rewards, and beyond our town limits the land itself infinite as space. I guess that bigness is what sets apart American life, thousands of people go missing in the wilderness every year and it's just taken as a given. There's a whole plane that crashed in a Vermont forest in the 80s which I believe still hasn't been found. One thing not shown onscreen, and I don't mind this since true detective is a horror drama and it wouldn't fit the tone, are the threads of community we maintain—church suppers, family game and movie nights at the library, small town festivals, Christmas tree lightings in the square and such. Life is a patchwork of privation and joy.
One thing I will advise you about if you come here (welcome btw) is picking the state with the best resources for you. Montana is gorgeous but the New England states have the best healthcare, and the east coast in general has the most public transit with our trainlines. If what matters is the job than you can visit anywhere I guess, but outside of the cities you better have a coworker/host with a reliable car willing to drive you around, because otherwise you will be stuck and lonely in the miles between anywhere. We joke about Rust being a passenger princess but bumming rides is a way of life here. Other than that, don't whistle at night in the southwest, always being more money than you think is needed to the store, look up any Indigenous nation near where you stay to maybe visit their cultural center, and have a good time!
hi again! so sorry for taking this long to respond, I've been busy with school and other shit, you know how it is
america is such a fascinating and complex place fr, and the negative aspects of it you mention were never shown in the media i (and may other europeans) consume. we're fed this image of this perfect land of the free american dream you can achieve anything if you work hard enough self made man kind of thing. but I'm glad to hear that you have this community - in my experience, that is not really the case here. i hardly ever talk to my neighbors (occasional good mornings and that about it), i don't go to church, but the people who do also don't really know one another, people only every talk to their family members and friends from places like school and work. i feel like in this aspect we could for sure learn from y'all.
when i do come visit I'm pretty sure it wont be permanent (unless chevy does actually wife me, then who knows). i just want to get a taste of that cowboy life i crave so much. i want to see the national parks (hope i don't go missing) and spend some time in the Space of it all. I am aware of the lack of public transport and i am prepared to drive everywhere, but thank you for the heads up. i also know about tax not being included in prices of stuff - which, what the fuck. that's so stupid. same with tipping - why not just pay workers living wages? I will for sure be taking the time to visit the Indigenous people in the places where I'll be staying. I'm actually writing my master's thesis about the Anishinaabe and Inuit people, and even though my area of focus is canada I'm sure I'll learn a great deal from the Indigenous people of the us as well.
thank you again for talking to me (and for your patience), and I'd really love for you to come off anon, be it in my dm's or under this post. I'd love to talk more about the show in general or just cultural issues. but no pressure!

Great Side Gigs You Can Fit into Your Existing Schedul
Tumblr media
We understand that most people are busy these days. Between your 9-5, family time, and trying to have some semblance of social life, your schedule is packed, and that’s totally fine. But what if we told you that you could easily fit some part-time gigs into your existing schedule?
Sounds exciting? Keep reading to get ideas to supplement your income without overhauling your routine.
Social Media Platforms
With over 3 billion people using social media worldwide, these platforms offer major opportunities for side hustles. You can leverage your knowledge and skills to make money through consulting, coaching, and creating content.
Instagram
On Instagram, build an audience by consistently posting engaging photos and short videos in a specific niche. Once you have a loyal following, you can earn money through sponsored posts, becoming an influencer for brands, or selling your own products and services. Many people have turned their Instagram side hustles into full-time jobs.
OnlyFans
Creating an OF account is a great way to earn money from home. Make videos on anything from gaming to makeup tutorials to adult posts, such as OnlyFans big ass content. Enable ads on your channel, and you'll make money from the views and traffic. Top OF models make a very good living from their channel. With time and consistency, your account can become a source of passive income.
Medical Billing
If you have an eye for detail and organizational skills, medical billing could be an ideal side gig. As a medical biller, you handle the administrative side of healthcare like tracking patient accounts, charges, and payments.
One of your main duties will be entering patient data like personal information, insurance details, and the services provided. Accuracy is key here to ensure proper billing and avoid delays.
While the pay varies, typically $15-20 per hour, it offers flexible hours and the chance to gain useful experience in healthcare administration. Not bad for a side gig.
Insurance Specialist
As an insurance specialist, you help clients understand their coverage options and choose plans that suit their needs. This side gig allows you to leverage your knowledge of the insurance industry to provide value to customers on your own schedule.
Insurance specialists typically earn money through commissions from insurance companies when clients purchase plans. The earning potential depends on factors like the types of plans you focus on, your experience, licenses or certifications, the number of clients you serve, and your location.
Many insurance specialists are able to work part-time while maintaining other jobs or responsibilities. If you have a background in insurance and want flexibility in your work schedule, becoming an insurance specialist could be an appealing side gig.
Technical Support
Technical support roles allow you to leverage your technical skills to help customers remotely in your spare time. Many companies hire part-time technical support representatives to assist customers with questions about their products and services outside of normal business hours.
As a technical support rep, you'll handle inbound calls, emails, and chats from customers needing help troubleshooting issues or answering questions about technology products.
The flexibility of these positions makes them ideal side gigs. You can often set your own hours and work as little or as much as you want. Many companies will hire part-time technical support reps to help fill gaps in coverage on nights and weekends. If you have a technical background and want to leverage your experience to generate some extra income in your spare time, technical support can be a great option.
Customer Support
Providing customer support is an ideal side gig for anyone with strong communication skills. Many companies hire independent contractors to assist customers remotely via phone, email, or live chat.
As a customer support specialist, your job is to help resolve any issues or questions customers may have with a company's product or service. You'll need to have a solid understanding of the company and products to provide accurate information and solutions to customers. Soft skills like patience, empathy, and problem-solving abilities are essential.
If you enjoy helping people and have a knack for troubleshooting problems, a part-time customer support gig could be a great way to earn some extra money in your spare time.

Long Term Care Trends and Challenges in the Post-Pandemic Era
Tumblr media
One of the major trends seen in the long term care industry since the start of the pandemic has been the rise of home-based care solutions. With nursing homes considered high-risk areas for virus spread, many families started looking for alternatives to provide care for aging loved ones at home. This has led to increased demand for home health aides, personal care attendants, caregiver training and support programs as well as technology solutions that enable remote patient monitoring and care management. Several startups have also entered this space with offerings like remote patient monitoring devices, medication dispensers, fall detection systems and video conferencing solutions to connect homebound seniors with doctors, therapists and family members. Experts believe this trend towards home-based care is likely to continue in the coming years driven by consumer preference for aging in the familiar environment of one's own home as well as cost benefits compared to facility-based care. Challenges in Staffing and Retention The pandemic exacerbated the long-standing challenges around staffing and retention that the long term care industry has been facing for years. Low pay, physical and emotional stresses of the job have contributed to high turnover rates among nursing assistants and home health aides. The last two years saw even greater strains on the caregiver workforce with the risk of virus exposure. Many left the profession, exacerbating existing staffing shortages across nursing homes, assisted living communities and home healthcare agencies. While higher pay, better benefits and ongoing training can help attract and retain quality caregiving staff, the challenges posed by demanding work conditions and associated physical and mental health toll cannot be overlooked. The industry will need sustainable solutions to promote caregiver well-being and professional growth in order to ensure adequate staffing levels in the coming years. Increased Senior Living Options Senior housing and retirement community operators responded to changing consumer needs and preferences with innovative new models of senior living. Covid-19 concerns led many older adults to re-evaluate their housing situation and consider options that provide varying levels of support with daily activities as needs change over time. This has benefited the growth of relatively new categories like independent living, affordable senior housing, congregate care models as well as smaller scale multi-generational housing communities that allow aging in place with family. While retirement communities and assisted living facilities took a hit during the peak pandemic years, the overall senior living sector is well-positioned for continued growth supported by the aging demographics and demand for more choices beyond traditional nursing home models of long term care. Focus on Mental Well-Being The pandemic years highlighted the importance of mental well-being for seniors as prolonged isolation, fear of infection and loss of social connections took their toll on emotional health. This has pushed the long term care industry to place stronger focus on addressing issues like loneliness, depression and anxiety among older client populations. It will continue investing in engaging programming, mental health services, support groups and socialization opportunities within communities and homes. Digital devices and telehealth solutions are also playing a greater role in keeping seniors connected to the outside world and providing remote access to counseling, activities and peer interaction. However, there is still a long way to go in terms of training the caregiving workforce to recognize and address underlying mental or behavioral health issues and ensuring accessibility of such specialized support services across senior housing, care settings and populations with varying needs.
