"Are you even listening to me?"
"Huh?" You knock yourself out of your stupor and look at Steve, his eyes gazing gravely at you. His arms are crossed, his hair is all styled up to perfection like always, and you think to yourself- how is it that you've been paired up with Steve Harrington, again, for another stupid project? Why you, of all people?
You definitely have to be cursed.
"You heard me, right?" He confirms. "My house after school?"
You nod, almost rolling your eyes a bit. "Yeah, totally." You huff before you ask, "since when have you been one to get a head start on school work?"
He chuckles, but it sounds more sarcastic than genuine, "Since I needed a good grade in this class to graduate, L/N. I'll see you later." He pushes off the wall, sauntering away in those stupid ass jeans that actually kind of make his ass look good. You shake your head, looking away from the boy and turn to face your locker once more.
As soon as you close it with your backpack over your shoulder, you hear familiar whistles coming towards you down the hallway.
Shit.
You start walking, hoping within an inch of your life these shitheads aren't coming to you, but you know better. A hand clamps over your shoulder, squeezing a little too hard for you to know exactly who it is.
Justin Andrews, the biggest dick in Hawkins.
"Heya, sweetheart, you miss me?" He laughs right into your ear.
"Not exactly."
"Oh, I know you did. Where ya' been? Haven't seen you around all week, was sorta starting to miss this pretty ass." His friends laugh beside him as his hand drifts down your shoulder and smacks your ass, catching you off guard and making you flinch farther from his hold.
"Been sick." That's all you answer, thinking maybe putting him off with short responses will get him to find somebody else, but again, you know better than to think this will be different than any other time before.
"Damn, that's a shame. I'm sure those kids of yours got a nice break from ya' then huh?" You glare at him as he offers a wide-grinned smile, winking at you before leaving you with another smack to the ass as a parting gift. As Justin and his pack of friends depart, you hurry away as fast as you can down the hall and out the doors before they can even think of coming back.
Once you finally get to your car and get inside, you throw your stuff to the passenger seat and take a deep breath to try and calm yourself down. There was no way you were going to last period after that, and besides, your youngest little brother needed to be picked up from daycare today anyway. Luckily your other four siblings are a bit older and take the bus now, otherwise you probably would have dropped out at this point. You take another deep breath and drive off in hopes of getting your brother quickly, and home on time so you don't show up late to Steve's.
You do not want to deal with an angry Steve.
...
As the universe would have it, everything was against you today.
First, you almost got hit by some drunk pulling out of the bar halfway to the daycare. Once you got to the daycare, you had to wait half an hour since your brother had a tantrum and didn't want to leave in the middle of snack time. By the time you got him out of there, and into your car in his blue booster seat, it had been another 20 minutes. Usually it's about a 15 minute drive home from the daycare, but it ended up being a half hour due to traffic. After you finally made it home, you got a call from your boss asking you to come in again later tonight to take another extra shift since your shitty co-worker hasn't been showing up for two weeks.
At that point, you were about to lose it. You'd just gotten home and now you had to miss another family dinner tonight, much to your brother's disappointment. You wish you had just a moment to breathe, but everything has been so... chaotic lately, it's like you've been running a marathon for a month straight.
You opened the cabinet to see what food was in there, but it was only half a bag of stale potato chips, and a couple boxes of your sisters' favorite cereal. You sighed, holding your empty stomach. Leftovers tonight would have to suffice.
You took a quick glance at the clock at the wall, but did the world's fastest double take when you saw the time 4:30.
SHIT. You think. Steve is going to murder me.
Thankfully, you hear your mom pull in the driveway so at least you're not leaving your brother home alone. You grab your backpack and bolt out the door with your keys in your hand. You scream a quick goodbye to your mom while she watches you pull out of the driveway like a madman, and take off in a rush.
Fifteen minutes later, you're pulling into Steve's huge driveway, slamming the door behind you, and running up to the door with big huffs to try and catch your breath. You knock on the door three times, and pull your hand back down when you see the door already opening in front of you. When the door is opened, you're confronted by the boy you were dreading to see.
"I'm sorry-" you begin to apologize, but Steve immediately cuts you off.
"Are you serious? I asked you if after school worked and you told me it was fine, and now you're an hour and a half late!"
"Steve-" you try again, but he continues. You stand there, taking in his anger and frustration, and all you can do is blankly stare and nod, not even knowing what you're agreeing with. You shut your eyes and look at the ground, willing the tears to stay back while you twist your fingers in your hands. You don't even know when his voice lost its edge or when it even stopped at all, or when you'd been pulled inside and asked if you were alright. Your eyes are still closed, but your head feels like it's going to explode and you can't hear what he's saying. The tears are streaming down your face before you can help it, and your hands start shaking from how hard you're trying to hold back.
Steve's so taken aback, he can't even speak. He hasn't seen you like this in a long time, not since your dad died and you practically became a parent to your siblings. His heart breaks a little bit at the sight of you, and he feels a part of his old self coming back, wanting to comfort you and protect you just like he did growing up. Just like he's done his whole life, apart from the entirety of this year. He doesn't even care he's supposed to hate you and you're supposed to hate him in this moment, all he knows is that he's the only person that can help you right now, and he's going to do just that.
Steve's face loses its concern and he jumps into protective mode, bringing his hands up to hold either side of your face to get you to look at him.
"Sweetheart, I need you to calm down for me, yeah? What's going on, talk to me."
You stubbornly shake your head and refuse to look up at him. Your chest is still heaving rapidly, and he can tell you can't catch your breath.
"Don't be stubborn right now, I can't help you if you don't let me and you need to let me help you. I can't have you passing out on my floor now can I?" He tries to joke, but you don't get distracted, you keep your eyes down even though they've opened. He sighs, dropping one of his hands to grab yours and place them over his chest. "Slow down, take a deep breath, love."
"I-I can't-" you sputter out to the best of your ability, letting your hand ball his shirt up into a fist.
"Yes, you can. Take a good deep breath," you listen to him momentarily, following what he's doing, and when you do he nods and gives you a nice, soft smile, "there ya go, love, you got it. Do it again."
Seeing him be like this for you again brings you back to all those times you've needed him before, the memories almost came flooding back when you heard his loud voice turn soothing in an instant, just for you. His touch had always been grounding, always took off the pressure and allowed you to come back down, and you hadn't expected it to be the same after so much time apart, but now, it's like nothing changed. He's still Steve- he's still your Steve.
That thought alone comforts you more than anything else.
"Steve-" you whisper softly, "I'm so- sorry. I'm so sorry."
"Sweetheart, don't-"
"No, I have to. I've been horrible to you, and now you're helping me- I just-" you drop your head on his chest, and finally tell him everything. "I feel like I've just been going and going non-stop, and today was it, it was my absolute breaking point. After you, and Justin-"
"Justin? Are you- Are you serious? Is he still giving you shit?"
You gulp, "yeah," but you shake your head quickly, "but he's not even the worst thing, I just... ugh," you stop yourself before you start crying again but Steve feels like he knows.
"When's the last time you got some sleep?"
"I don't know.. a couple days ago?"
"Oh my god," he drops his head back and groans, which actually makes you laugh a bit. He immediately looks down at you, realizing the talking stopped you from panicking, or at least distracted you from it. "Hey," he nudged you a bit, getting you to look up at him, "I'm sorry too. I shouldn't of yelled at you, and I definitely shouldn't have left you that night-"
"That's not your fault, Steve. I pushed you away."
"Yeah, and I shouldn't have let you."
You look at each other for a moment, like, really look at each other. It's been so long since you've been able to hold each other like this, it almost doesn't feel real.
"C'mon, let's get you something to eat."
"It's fine-" you start, before he cuts you off again.
"No, shut up. If you haven't been sleeping, you definitely haven't been eating either, so let's go." He left no room for debate, so you just took his hand and followed him, letting him lead you through his house.
He gives you a couple of your favorite snacks, since he didn't have any sort of meals yet, but you seemed very content, so he thought it was better than nothing. He let you take your time, rubbed your back while you told him about the rest of your shitty day, and grabbed your hand again when he started up the stairs to his room.
"What about the project?" You asked.
"That can wait. You need some sleep first."
"Steve-"
He shook his head, "Nope. Not happening."
At last, you gave up and followed his lead again, which, as much as you'd hate to admit it, it felt nice letting someone else lead you around for a change instead of the other way around. For so long, it's been you taking charge and always bossing your siblings around, but it feels relieving to have Steve with you again to remind you it didn't always have to be that way.
You pulled back the covers in his bed and laid down, not even having to ask for Steve to join you, him already doing the same on the other side. Almost as if no time had passed, you curled up against one another, resting your head on his chest, and his arms wrapping around you to pull you close.
"Go to sleep. I've got you."
His hands rub gentle circles on your back, soothing you and releasing the tension from your body as you slowly relax enough to fall asleep. You fight to keep your eyes open as long as you can, savoring this moment with him, almost as if he won't be here when you wake up.
"Don't worry, I'll be here."
Those words pull at your heartstrings, making you hold him tighter and bury yourself into him deeper, if you even can. Knowing that you're together again has you finally closing your eyes, and falling into a peaceful sleep.

FEBRUARY 2004
Everything was too loud, too bright, too cold, too everything. The other classmates couldn’t stop talking and scream-laughing while the teacher at the desk did absolutely nothing to quiet down the class. You sat in the third row from the far back left, near the windows overlooking the fields. There was a small tap at the back of your head, and then another, and another. Small balls of paper crowded the ground. The kids behind you wouldn’t stop; you didn’t know why. Hushed giggles and mumbles made you want to disappear. Then, you heard it. A small psst behind your shoulder. You jerked in your seat and turned around with furrowed brows.
Two boys and one girl–Dennis, Nick, and Georgia. For some reason, they’ve picked on you since you first stepped foot in this elementary school. Third grade has been especially tough because of the infamous three.
“Isn’t it true you have two dads?” Dennis snickered while the other two full on belly laughed.
“Yeah, so?” You shrugged. You don’t exactly understand why it’s funny that you have two daddies. Even if you didn’t come from them directly, they loved you deeply and gave you a happy home and yummy food and warm clothes.
“Are you, like, an orphan or something?” Georgia sneered at her, her red hair and freckles matching her devilish personality. “Did your mommy dump you on their doorstep because she didn’t want you anymore?”
Warmth made its way from your neck, all the way to your cheeks. There was a tremble in your hands and an uneasy knot in your stomach.
“My daddies say it’s none of your business!”
Trying to stick up for yourself has always been unsuccessful when it came to these three, but it was worth a shot. They laughed in your faces; Dennis slapping the desk while Georgia pointed at you in mockery.
“Well, my daddy says that your daddies are going to hell because it’s a sin,” Nick tells you, a stupid smirk playing on his dry lips. “They’re gonna burn in hell.”
“Stop it!” You cried out, thick tears filling your eyes as your bottom lip wobbled.
“She’s crying! Look at her!” Georgia cackled. “The little orphan crying!”
When you turned back around in your chair with your warm tears rolling down your flushed cheeks, biting down hard on your lip to hold in your cries of anguish. Behind you, they still mocked and laughed. There was a small tug on one of the braids Daddy did for you with a cute little pink butterfly hair clip. The bell rang and you hurried to grab your small Care Bears backpack. Your classmates rushed out as it was finally time for lunch. The handle of your lunchbox was clutched in your tiny fist, until it wasn’t. Nick had snatched it out of your hands, dangling it above your head as you tried jumping it to yank it from his grip.
“Give it back, Nick!” You yelped and went to jump up again before a hand shoved you back; it was Georgia, with Dennis standing close behind like a follower.
“Looks like itty bitty Y/N got a sweet little note from her daddy… or maybe it was the other daddy?” Nick cackled. Other kids just walked by as you were crowded by the three in a corner. Frustrated tears filled your eyes once again.
“Stop being such a big baby!” Georgia swatted at your arm that was exposed from your t-shirt. You yelped and choked on a sob as you rubbed the spot she smacked.
As Nick went to unfold the note Daddy had written you, there was a sudden burst of courage that exploded within you. Suddenly, you leap forward, both hands grabbing onto Nick’s wrist to dislodge the note from his cold hands. He grunts and yanks back, but you follow. The more worked up you got, the stronger your grip was.
“Let… go!”
As you tugged back for the final time with all your might, you missed sight of Nick smirking at Georgia and Dennis. Then suddenly, his hands shot up and collided with your face, specifically your nose. Blinding, white hot pain shot all throughout your face. With a shriek of agony, you fell to the floor on your knees and covered your face with both hands. Your nose was throbbing, you couldn’t see anything through your thick tears. Why are your hands wet? What’s going on? Why is it red? Drip, drip, drip.
You pull your hands away and they’re stained with your blood. Finally, you let out a scream of terror that silenced everyone in the halls.
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
Frank was in his art room when the phone rang. He wiped his charcoaled hands with a stained rag and hurried downstairs to answer it. It was the principal. And then suddenly, it felt as though he went deaf. The only words he could make out were daughter, blood, and screaming. His breathing became labored and the phone fell from his hand and onto the hardwood floors with a clatter. Bill heard the small commotion and curiously peeked his head in the foyer to see Frank breathing fast and heavy, his eyes crazed and wide.
“School. Now.” That was enough for Bill to leap into action, pull on his boots, and grab his and Frank’s coats before they both speed to the school in their truck.
Frank was the first one running into the main office. He frantically looked around and then saw his girl sitting on one of the benches with blood all over your denim overalls and dried blood on your hands and arms. Your hair was messy, face all blotchy from sobbing for what felt like eternity.
“Oh, sweetheart,” he breathed out, and he watched as your head perked up at the sound of his voice.
“Daddy!” You started crying, arms outstretched and blood dried hands making grabby motions at him. “Daddy, Daddy!”
He falls to his knees and immediately pulls you into his arms. His arms, they felt like home in a person. Frank has always been the more affectionate father, while Bill was more verbally affectionate. Frank chokes on his own cries as he listens to his little girl crying and clinging onto him. Bill storms into the principal’s office like a bull in a china shop and slams the door behind him.
Frank slowly and gently pulls you away from his neck to get a better look at you. He makes a small tsk noise as he notices the swelling along the bridge of your nose. He hushes you quietly when you whimper and fuss in his arms.
“I don’t like it here, Daddy,” you hiccup, small fists holding onto his jacket with all your little might. “Take me home, please!”
Frank looks up at the small window on the door of the principal’s office. He can hear the deep gruffness of Bill’s voice and can see how he paces back and forth, arms waving everywhere like a madman. It’s one thing to piss off Bill, but it’s another to include his family in the mix.
“Don’t worry, sweet girl. We’re gonna get Papa and then we’re gonna get you home, okay?” He gives your forehead a small kiss and moves your baby hairs away.
Suddenly, the door is snatched open. Bill storms out and the principal follows close behind, spewing angry remarks as he sneers at Frank. From the fuming rage in Bill’s eyes, he could only think that the conversation did not go as planned. With a small grunt, Frank lifts their daughter into his arms and Bill snatches your backpack and lunchbox from the principal’s hands.
“Gentlemen, don’t be so sensitive! Kids pick on each other all the time! It was just some rough play gone overboard. Kids make mistakes,” the principal gave both men a snide laugh.
You hid your face in Frank’s neck, whimpering softly when your nose brushed against the fabric of his jacket. You couldn’t hear what was being said due to your Papa using your jacket to cover your head. Then, there was movement and finally silence. Bill lightly strokes your small hand, sighing quietly to himself at the sight of dried blood. Him and Frank share a silent look, and then Bill nods at him. His lover nods back.
A decision has been made.
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
APRIL 2004
You stood beside your Papa in his office behind his desk. He sits in the chair holding a sheet of your completed math problems with his reading glasses perched on his nose. One of your arms is slung around his broad shoulders. There’s only silence, aside from the rustling of papers.
“Hmm..” Bill hums out loud, glancing to the side as he watches you huff and squirm in your spot. He hides a smile as he lets out a ‘thinking’ hum, and you anxiously squirm again. “Well, just as I thought.” He puts the papers down along with his pen.
You look at him expectantly, wide eyes filled with curiosity and wonder. He hopes he never has to witness the disappearance of those emotions in your eyes.
“You did a good job, kiddo,” he says and hands you the papers, each math problem with a red checkmark next to them. “Next thing you know, you’ll be studying calculus."
You let out a small squeal of delight and give him a big hug and kiss on his bearded cheek. “Wait… what’s calculus?”
The way your head tilts in confusion has Bill laughing to himself, but it sounds more like a grumbling bear to you. Seeing how carefree you were in the comfort of your home with him and Frank teaching you on their own gave him some comfort as well. There were no more tears, no bruises on your small body from those rat-faced kids and the poisoned words that their parents spew in their child’s ears. No more fear. No more anxiety. Just peace and happiness with those that love her.
There was a knock at the door before Frank peeked his head in. “I hope I’m not interrupting the grading.”
“Daddy, look!” You dashed over to him with your paper held high, waving in front of his face. “Papa says I can do catalyst!”
Frank lets out a full belly laugh and scans the paper, check marks beside each problem. “Catalyst, huh?” He glances over at Bill over the paper and sees the softness in his eyes and the way his lips are formed into a barely there smile. He finally looks down at you, brushing your hair from your face as he says, “Honeybee, why don’t you wash your hands for dinner, okay?”
When you make a mad dash to the bathroom, Frank steps deeper into the room. Bill stands and makes his way over to his partner. They embrace each other, both letting out a long sigh of what sounded like relief. They can hear you singing your ABC’s as you thoroughly wash your hands. Bill hears a small sniffle coming from Frank. When they pull away, Bill wipes a tear on his lover’s cheek.
“Why the tears?” Bill mumbles softly, both hands holding onto the other man’s shoulders.
Frank shakes his head and lets out an embarrassing laugh as more tears trickle down into his beard. “I just love seeing her so happy,” his voice breaks and Bill swears he feels his heart grow. “She’s our honey girl, you know?”
Later that night, when everybody’s bellies were full, you somehow couldn’t sleep; tossing and turning, huffing and puffing. The time where you finally relaxed your body, it was your mind that traveled to the dark, scary place. In this dream, Daddy and Papa were screaming and pleading. They kept screaming and screaming, they just wouldn’t stop. And then, they were covered in cuts and bruises and blood. God, there was so much blood. Daddy looked at you, his eyes wide and filled with fear. “Wake up! Please, God, wake up! Now!”
You jolt awake, sweaty and breathing so heavy you feel like your lungs might collapse. Frantically looking around your room, the nightlight couldn’t cast enough glow. The shadows on your walls taunted you, mocking you and your fear. A whimper escapes before you could stop it. Grabbing your stuffed bunny, you hurry across the hall and slowly open the door.
In bed, Daddy and Papa sleep soundly. They’re both snoring quietly as you get closer to their giant bed. You’re on Daddy’s side, and you tap at his arm urgently.
“Daddy,” you whispered and looked over your shoulder to make sure the shadows didn’t follow you into the comfort of your fathers bedroom. When he didn’t wake up, you started shaking his arm even harder. “Daddy, wake up! Please!”
Frank awakes with a jolt. He sits up on his elbows in sleepy confusion. His hair is rumpled and he squints the sleep away as he looks around the room. He nearly jumps out of his skin at the sight of you standing beside his bed clutching onto your stuffed bunny he had gotten you for your first Christmas at home.
“Honeybee, what’re you doing up?” He whispers as to not wake up Bill, although the man sleeps like a hibernating bear.
You wiped at your eyes and frowned in a way that made Frank want to awww out loud. “I-I had a bad dream,” you whimper. “Can I sleep with you and Papa?”
Knowing that your first thought was to run to Frank (and Bill if he weren’t sleeping) had him smiling and laughing quietly. He pushes the covers away and lifts you into his arms before placing you between him and Bill. You make yourself comfortable and cuddle against Frank’s chest. The smell of your shampoo has him wrapping his arms tighter around your body.
“You’re safe now, honeybee,” he whispers, peering down at you as your eyes get more heavy and your breathing starts to even out. “I got you, sweet girl.”

There is something frightening that comes with growing up. First, you come into the world with hands too small to carry anything and a mind unable to grasp anything. And no matter how many years you continue on, you never know what to expect from a fickle thing called life. It is as if you impart on a dangerous journey; your knees get wounded; your eyes get tired; your heart gets bruised. Yet, there must be something in the end that makes all the injuries worth it.
The universe had many instances to give you reasons to believe that all the ups and downs you go through are worth it. Instead, you are given three demons that crashed into your feeble life—you cannot seem to get rid of them even if you tried.
“Y/N-ah!” A boy you have grown too familiar with over the years calls out to you while you were exiting the stuffy classroom filled with unknown faces.
You roll your eyes and shake your head. “Sunwoo, have you not gotten tired of me? Can’t last a few hours without me?”
“Yah! I’m only here because you owe me.”
Kim Sunwoo—the reason why you have not known peace since… forever. You got to know him back in grade school where you shared the unfortunate fate of being classmates throughout the years. The shy boy was consistently your seatmate which forced you two to interact. What became casual seatmates turned into best friends that would stick together for every break time.
Somehow, you and Sunwoo have stuck together like glue since then. As the years went by, you have been present for every soccer tournament while he has been present for every competition. And somehow, you found yourselves in high school still joined at the hip. Your friendship has contradicted the popular belief of “losing your grade school friends when you enter high school.” You wish you knew how your friendship continued to survive in college waters.
“I owe you? Doesn’t the favor I asked from you make up for the one you asked from me then?” You frown as you walk with him.
Sunwoo nudges you and says, “That is not what we agreed on.”
“You are literally going off on your own terms, be for real.”
“C’mon Y/N! Don’t you love your best friend of 12 years?”
You give him a side-eye. “I cannot believe you are trying to play that card right now.”
“I always play that card.” Sunwoo shrugs, smirking as he walks with you. “I mean, I wouldn’t like to play the old crush card.”
You gasp at his statement and smack him. “I told you that in secret, you little shit!”
“See! So treat me now!”
Since you two grew up together, it was inevitable for you to harbor some form of infatuation towards the one boy you found yourself sticking with. It was an embarrassing period in your life considering how weird it is to think of Sunwoo under that light now. Thankfully, you got over that crush once you found yourself getting into K-Pop idols and streamers.
“You are so frustrating, Sunwoo.” You rest your back on the wall. “Can’t I just treat you another day? I do not have enough money to buy us both food.”
Sunwoo takes his spot beside you as he stares at the closed door opposite you two. “Fine! But don’t forget.”
“You always seem to make it a point to remind me.” You roll your eyes as he nudges you once more.
“Hey, I’m just trying to get back what I was promised. I mean, do you know the lengths I had to go to somehow get Ja–”
You place your hand on his mouth before he could say more. “Yah, Kim Sunwoo! You cannot be saying that shit out loud,” you whisper in the last sentence.
He grabs your hand and pushes it off his face. “I’m just saying! I’m not trying to spill your secret for everyone to hear. Do you have no faith in me?”
“You’re really asking me that?” You furrow your eyebrows.
“... Point taken.” Sunwoo gives a sheepish smile. “But it was hard to make it all work! You should be glad that I’m good friends with your little publication team.”
Before you could comment, you notice the door swing open as university students make their way out. You pushed your iPad down into your bag as you stood beside Sunwoo.
“Yah, Changmin!” Sunwoo calls out as he raises his hand. As you tiptoe, you notice the boy who you have grown to love and hate all throughout high school. Once he catches sight of you two, he smiles and makes his way to you.
“Yay! You guys did wait for me,” Changmin says as he quickly stores his glasses away.
“Of course we did. You would scold us if we didn’t,” you say as you roll your eyes.
Sunwoo laughs. “Nice one, Y/N.” He gives you a high-five.
“Hey! You would get mad if I didn’t wait for you.” Changmin shakes his head as he latches onto your arm.
You chuckle and say, “Yeah, I would.”
Ji Changmin—what could you say about this one? Despite the chaos he brings to your world, he seems to be the one person you could handle in big doses. You love Sunwoo but the guy will not get off your ass.
Thanks to Sunwoo, you met Changmin in high school. When Sunwoo decided to look into other extra-curricular activities, he found himself falling in love with dance. And dance brought him to Changmin. The two shared a love for dancing as they found themselves on the dance team representing your school. With all the times Sunwoo and Changmin got along, Sunwoo felt it was only best to bring you and Changmin together.
It is funny to remember how you two first met. At first, you thought you and Changmin would just be friendly—only interacting if Sunwoo planned something among you three.
At first, you did not feel particularly happy about hanging out with Changmin. When you say this, you can only imagine the way people would react. Everyone seemed to love him just at first glance. You though… you were terrified of the guy. Maybe it is because there were not enough instances for you to get to know each other. It did not help that he was two years above you.
Sunwoo seemed to be the glue to keep your friend group of three together. However, it was only when you first joined your high school’s publication team that you got to see Changmin without Sunwoo. It came as a surprise to you then—seeing one of the best dancers in your high school do something that is not dance (minus studying, of course).
At first, you two were awkward as you worked without Sunwoo there to be his usual self. However, the more instances you worked one-on-one with Changmin, the more you realized that there is nothing to be afraid of. With his photos and your writings, you two became an unstoppable team in the publication.
You could remember when Sunwoo first noticed the change in dynamics between you and Changmin. What started off as jigsaw puzzle pieces that did not fit together turned into peas in a pod. Though you never expected that Changmin’s bantering with you could be worse than Sunwoo’s.
“Changmin, you never hold onto me,” Sunwoo says as he glares at you two.
“Because every time I do, you run away from me,” Changmin throws back as he shakes his head. “And Y/N never gets sick of me from holding onto them.”
The three of you started to walk side-by-side. “Where’s Chanhee?” Changmin asks.
“He said to meet him in the ramen place across the athletics building,” you answer as you try to fish out your phone from your pocket. You look down at your phone and send a message to Chanhee as your two friends talk.
y/n: we are on the way xP nyuging 🐧: okie! i got us a table already nyuging 🐧: don’t forget we need to work on the small businesses coverage after y/n: yessir! i’m free after we eat nyuging 🐧: are u fr? man, i have lit class right after the interviews nyuging 🐧: with mr. choi 😭 y/n: NOOOOOOOOO who tf am i gonna stay with nyuging 🐧: not my problem xP nyuging 🐧: you could actually stay with mr. bae 💗😍 y/n: STFUUUU
You groan over Chanhee’s message. “Why?” Changmin looks over at you.
“Chanhee can’t stay with me after we finish up the interviews, and I have to wait for my meeting around 5 PM.”
Changmin sighs and says, “Sucks to be you.”
“Nice one, Changmin.” Sunwoo laughs as he high-fives Changmin.
“Yah! Changmin, you don’t want to stay with me?”
“I have other important things to handle.”
You glare at Changmin and shrug his hand off your arm. “I’m not offering to drive you around anymore. Get used to walking.”
“Yah, I’m just joking!” He jokes around and attempts to grab onto your arm once more.
Sunwoo whines. “Why don’t you bother to ask me?”
“Because I know you’re going to use that time to bother me about how I still owe you.” All he could do was giggle.
“Don’t worry, I’ll stay with you because I know you can’t survive without me.” Changmin smiles as he brings you closer to his side.
You side-eye the boy who manages to rile you up even more than Sunwoo can (maybe it is because you are used to Sunwoo’s antics). “You are so annoying.”
“Yah! Keep that shit up and I’m actually going to ditch you.”
“HEY! Don’t say that! Please, you know I’m never going to get any work done if I’m left alone.”
Changmin scoffs. “Exactly. That is why you need me.” You roll your eyes over his words.
It seems to always be like this with Changmin—sometimes warm, oftentimes cold to you. You did not mind the dynamic you had with him. If anything, it felt perfect since you learned to see how he shows his appreciation towards you without outright saying it. Regardless of the banter, you always find yourself being more sentimental with him compared to your other friends.
Before you could say anything, you hear someone call out your name. “Y/N!” As you whip your head in the direction of where the sound came from, you see the guy of your dreams. Jacob Bae—the unattainable 5th-year in your publication.
The first time you met Jacob was when you got accepted into your university’s publication. Being the only fresh recruit in the Features staff, your editor, Moon Kevin, decided it would be best to get you acquainted with the small crew. Jacob was a senior when you first got to meet him.
Despite usually being terrified of those who were a few years older than you, there was something about him that made you feel at ease. Whether it was his smile or his soft-spoken tone, you always found yourself smiling over the thought of him. Although you never got the opportunity to work with him, you can only hope it would change this year considering your staff was short on manpower.
Your mouth goes dry as you freeze in your place. “Oh my god.”
“Oh no, please act cool,” Sunwoo mumbles as Jacob makes his way to you three.
Changmin nudges him and says, “You know they will not act cool.” Before more words could be shared, Jacob arrives in front of you with that soft smile that never fails to make your insides all mushy.
“Hey, Y/N!” The way he says your name almost has your knees go weak.
A beat of silence passes. You did not know what to say to the senior you had the biggest crush on. It is only when Changmin nudges you that snaps you out of your trance.
“Ah, Jacob! It’s so nice to see you. W-where are you headed?” You squeak out as you give an awkward smile.
“I’m headed to meet with Kevin. I have an article to cram so he’s going to make some edits while I write.”
You gasp and say, “Oh god, good luck. I feel like I’d be too pressured to write anything.”
“Thankfully I’m used to it.” Jacob takes a look at Sunwoo and Changmin. “Hi, I’m Jacob. I’m on the same staff as Y/N.”
Once he puts his hand out, Sunwoo immediately grabs and shakes it. “It’s nice to meet you, Jacob hyung. I’m Sunwoo. I’m also friends with Kevin hyung.”
“Ah, you’re Sunwoo! Yes, Kevin has mentioned you.” Jacob gives a sheepish smile before he takes a look at Changmin. “And you are, Changmin?”
Changmin’s eyes go wide, shocked at Jacob knowing his name. “Yes, that’s me. How did you know?”
Jacob chuckles. “I know it because I have some friends from the Sports staff who cover a lot of stories about the dance troupe that you and Sunwoo are part of. Also, I’ve heard Y/N and Chanhee talk about you.”
Changmin smiles at you and pretends to hold his heart. “You talk about me? Awe, you two really cannot live without me.” You only elbow his side so that he could stop embarrassing you in front of Jacob.
“Anyway, it’s so nice to see you again.” You smile once more at him.
Jacob giggles and says, “Good luck with your coverage of small businesses. I wish I could’ve worked on that with you. I’ll see you later at the meeting?” You only nod to which he smiles.
“Bye Y/N!” And with that, Jacob walked away from you, leaving you with a heart so mushy.
“You seriously need to get better at making your feelings less obvious,” Changmin breaks the mood which only has you elbow him once more.
“You were literally embarrassing me in front of him!” You quietly exclaim as you three continue to walk to the restaurant.
Changmin hugs you and puts his whole weight on you, making your pace slower. “I’m just flattered that you think about me all the time.”
“You know damn well that Chanhee and I are complaining about you.”
Sunwoo laughs and says, “I can’t believe I’m the safe one here.”
“Yah, you are in no way safe. Tell him, Y/N.” Changmin attempts to argue as he stops hugging you (though his arm remains linked with yours).
You sigh and say, “Sadly, he is. I’m used to Sunwoo’s antics and I don’t spend as much time as I used to with Mr. Popular. You, however… I am getting sick of you. Chanhee is too.” Changmin gasps at your words.
“Yeah, I’m ditching you.”
“Changmin, I’m just joking! Please don’t leave me alone.”
Tumblr media
It is 2:23 PM. You were with Chanhee as you were wrapping up your interview with the owner of the restaurant, Mr. Lim. The small business has a cozy feel whose dishes focus on the fusion of Korean and Filipino food.
“Thank you so much for letting me interview you!” You and Chanhee bow down to Mr. Lim.
He only shakes his head and hands out a small bag of thin butter cookies. “Please, it’s my pleasure. I look forward to reading that article! Enjoy these lengua de gato.”
“Ah, thank you so much!” Chanhee smiles. “We’ll make sure to visit you again, Mr. Lim!”
As you bid your farewells, you two made your way out of the restaurant. You and Chanhee walked while looking down at the notes and pictures taken.
“How are your pictures?” You ask as you peer over Chanhee’s shoulder to look at the viewfinder.
Chanhee lets out a hum as he scrolls through the photos he took. “I just need to do some minimal edits, but everything looks pretty good. Is your recording good?”
You nod at him as you play a snippet of the recording to him. “It sounds clear. I just hope that it doesn’t get corrupted like last time.”
“God, I remember when your recording got corrupted—in your first coverage too!”
You groan as you quickly stash away your phone and notes. “Don’t even remind me! I felt so bad because you were working with me too. Do you even know how embarrassed I was?”
“Of course I did. I could literally see the anxiety ooze from you when you were still a first-year student.”
You met your third devil, Choi Chanhee, in the publication. Although he is part of the Photos staff, you had the opportunity to work closely with him during your very first coverage for the university’s paper.
You remember it clear as day—you were tasked to cover the rise of artificial intelligence programs, specifically on the benefits and harm of these in the academe. He accompanied you to your interview with one of the professors since he was tasked to take pictures. However, your recording got corrupted and you were left with minimal notes. That is when you first learned the importance of taking note of everything.
Chanhee has been the nicest one out of the three devils you know. So far, you were always paired with him for all of your coverages. With so much time being spent together, you formally introduced him to your two best friends who seem to bully him in the same way they do with you. It helped that he is in the same batch as Changmin. Now, your friend group has expanded to four.
“I swear, I remember how much I cried to Kevin that day because I felt so bad,” you admit as you shake your head at the memory.
You two continue to walk until you finally arrive at Morning Roasters—the cafe you seem to frequent with Chanhee. He introduced you to this cafe when you had to cram an article on drag queens who studied at your university for June.
“Why don’t you find a table and I’ll get our drinks?” Chanhee asks as he grabs his wallet. You nod and take a look around the packed cafe. It seemed as if every table was taken. However, when your eyes land on a familiar boy who was focused on his laptop, you could only smile.
“Changmin-ah!” You exclaim as you make your way to him.
When he looks up from his work, he rolls his eyes at the sight of you. “See, I told you I would stay with you.”
You take a seat beside him and lean your head on his shoulder. “Thanks. You know I wouldn’t have gotten any work done if I was left alone.”
He only hums as he continues to type away. “How was the interview? Did it go well?”
“Yeah, the owner is really nice. He gave us a bag of cookies,” you say as you place it on the table.
“Mr. Lim is nice. We should really eat there one day.”
Changmin stops typing and grabs the bag of cookies. As he attempts to open it, you elbow his side which he yelps at. “You’re not even going to ask if you can have some?” You scold him as you lift your head up from his shoulder.
“Can I have?”
You only roll your eyes. “Whatever, go.”
“The only reason he does that is because you react that way,” Chanhee says as he appears in front of you two with a cup of iced matcha for you and peach iced tea for himself.
“That’s true,” Changmin says before he finally grabs himself a cookie. As he takes a bite of it, he lets out a small moan at the taste. “Hey, you need to try this.”
Curious over Changmin’s reaction, you and Chanhee grab yourselves a piece and take a bite. “Oh shit, that’s good,” You say as you take one more bite of the milk cookie.
Chanhee takes a look at the time. “Oh shit, I need to go! I’ll see you in the meeting later!”
Before you and Changmin could say bye, Chanhee was already out of the cafe.
“Well, time to get to work,” Changmin says as you open your laptop.
As you peer over at Changmin’s screen, you notice that his screen was opened to a site you have not seen in a while.
“Oh my god, is that our high school publication?”
Changmin hums and says, “Yeah, I was just looking at some of my old photos. It’s crazy because I look at them and I feel a part of myself cringe. Like, why is it so bad?”
You laugh as you open the document that had your draft. “You would think that being accepted into your high school’s publication meant that you were a good writer or photographer. I feel like I have learned so much more now than I did then.”
The reality is that you only continue to learn—to grow in the work that you do. While growth may never be linear, it is a journey. Although Changmin found himself giving up on photography, you never let yourself give up on writing. But you two understood that he only wanted to invest more time into another hobby turned passion.
For a moment, it is silent between you two. As you continue to type away, you notice that Changmin is still looking at his old articles. When you take a look at his face, you see that he is deep in thought.
“Hey, what’s up?” You ask which breaks him out of his trance.
“Sorry, I was just… thinking.”
“You want to share?”
For a moment, Changmin does not reply. It is usual for him to not want to share his sentiments. You never held it against him, but there are times when you wished he would feel safer to open up to you. You remember how easy it is for him to hide what he is going through.
“I… I was just thinking about how I managed to balance dance, the publication, and my studies back in high school. Now, I feel like I barely have time to keep up with dance or my work.” You only hum at his words.
“I think I just miss photography but not to the point where I would join the publication again. I don’t have the time anymore, but I do miss it, you know?” Changmin asks to which you nod.
“Yeah. I never realized how much time I had back in high school. Now, I feel like I’m drowning in… everything, really. I can only imagine it seems harder for you because you have the thesis to worry about.”
Changmin groans and says, “Oh god, why did you have to remind me!” He rubs his eyes. “I am literally suffering from this alone! At least I don’t need to deal with crap groupmates.”
You only laugh as you type away. “Well, you could still do some free-lancing while you’re working as a preschool teacher.”
“That is if I graduate on time,” Changmin purses his lips as he finally exits his old articles and looks at his thesis.
You nudge his shoulder. “Hey, I believe you can. And if you can’t, you’ll be fine. It’s normal.”
Changmin takes a good look at you as you continue to add some new information to your draft. “Yeah. Thanks, Y/N.” You only smile at him before you two decide to go back to work.

It is 7:32 PM. You were exhausted from your meeting with the Features staff and some people from the Photos staff (though it was still nice to see Jacob). Kevin spent a lot of the time going through what story pitches could be pursued for the rest of the first semester. Your brain felt exhausted from it all. However, there was something good that came from the meeting.
“Y/N, you will be working with Jacob on the coverage of K-Pop student idols here at our university.” You immediately look up at Kevin whose eyes are still focused on the iPad. “You two will also work on drinking culture amongst students and hustle org work lifestyle. Chanhee will be your assigned Photos staffer, as always.”
Your eyes land on Chanhee who has a small smile as he looks down at his camera. For a moment, you are scared to look at Jacob.
“Me? Really?”
Kevin hums as he finally looks up from his iPad. “Yeah. Since we’re short-staffed, I thought it would be good to just have some more collaboration articles to streamline all the work.”
You take this chance to look over at Jacob who seemed to be looking at you already, that godforsaken smile on his face. Your heart does somersaults at the idea of him looking at you without even noticing.
“Y/N?”
You snap out of your daze and finally give Kevin a nod. “Yeah, that sounds good.”
He smiles at you and says, “Well, that settles it. Jacob and Y/N will work on those three pitches while Seungcheol and Yunjin on the beauty standards and Halloween culture coverages. Lastly, Chaeyeon will work on the polyamory pitch.”
As everyone agrees with the assigned pitches, Chanhee nudges you. “Jacob hasn’t stopped looking at you.” Once he whispers those words, you feel your eyes drift over to Jacob who still had his eyes set on you.
You had no idea how you managed to get through that meeting without freaking out over that new piece of information. It sounded weird when you phrase it that way, but you are no better than a high schooler in love whenever you were thinking about him.
“That meeting felt a little too long,” Chanhee groans as he stretches his back.
You two were seated by the benches near the athletics center, admiring the starry sky. “I know. Kevin is stressed though so I can understand that he really wants to fix everything.”
With your staff smaller than last year, the Features staff could only pursue a few pitches. For Kevin, he cares about the well-being of each member which is why it made sense for him to have a meeting to ensure everyone was alright with their assigned workload.
“At least you’re gonna work with Mr. Bae,” Chanhee teases you which makes you elbow his side.
“Chanhee! Be quiet.”
Chanhee whines. “Oh come on! Don’t you want to talk about it?”
“I do but not here!”
“You’re so boring.” You only glare at him for a moment before you tilt your head back and close your eyes.
For a moment, you wanted to let yourself rest. It is until you feel someone tap your shoulder. “Chanhee, can’t you just–”
“Hi, Y/N.” Your eyes snap open as you see Jacob looking over you.
You quickly sit up straight and say, “Ah, Jacob! It’s so nice to see you.”
“Yeah. Are you waiting for Sunwoo and Changmin?”
Chanhee nods. “Yeah, I think they’re just wrapping up.”
Jacob hums for a moment as he looks at the athletics center that is still lit up. “I’m also waiting for my friend. I don’t know if you guys know him but it’s Juyeon.”
“Of course, we know Juyeon hyung. He’s just as good as Changmin when it comes to dance,” Chanhee answers.
Jacob chuckles and says, “Kevin, Juyeon, some other friends, and I are supposed to be catching dinner. What about you guys?”
“Same here.” You scratch your arm. “But also because I’m going to be dropping them off at their place.”
“Oh, you drive? That’s cool.” You nod as you look down at your lap, shy over Jacob’s words.
Chanhee scoots further away from you. “Jacob hyung, do you want to take a seat?”
“Oh, thank you!” He says as he quickly moves to take a seat beside you. You feel yourself hold your breath over the distance between you two. You hated that you felt this way about this guy.
“Y/N-ah.” You look up from your lap and look over at the guy beside you. “I don’t think I ever got to tell you this but I’m excited to work with you. I’ve seen your articles from last year and they’re really good.”
You cannot help the smile (or blush) that creeps up on your face. “Please, I am so honored to work with you. I mean, I’ve seen your byline how many times on articles I really loved reading.”
Jacob softly nudges your shoulder. “I’m glad that we’ll have our bylines beside each other.”
As a writer, you felt yourself die inside. You have heard poets speak of love in a way you could never utter. Yet, hearing Jacob say a phrase just as simple as that had you reimagining what love should be.
For a moment, you do not know what to say. Your eyes remain on him as he continues to look at students finally making their way out of the athletics center. You notice Chanhee peering over and mouthing the words “Bitch, say something.”
Before you could say anything, you hear someone call out your name. “Y/N! Chanhee!” You whip your head to see Sunwoo running up to you guys with Changmin following behind.
“You would not–oh? Jacob hyung? It’s so nice to see you,” Sunwoo says as he tongues his cheek.
Changmin’s eyes widened at the sight of you and Jacob seated side-by-side. “Ah, Jacob hyung! Hello again.”
“Hi again. I’m just waiting for Juyeon actually.”
“Oh, he was just with us,” Changmin says as he looks back only to see Juyeon running to you four.
Juyeon pants and says, “Sorry! I just had to handle something real quick.”
Jacob gets off the bench and stands beside him. “First off, this is Juyeon. Juyeon, this is Chanhee and Y/N. They’re both from the school’s newspaper also.”
Juyeon’s eyes go wide. “Oh, you’re Y/N! Jacob hyung has mention–” Jacob quickly elbows him before he could say more to which he yelps. You feel your eyes go wide at the information.
“Ow! Jacob hyung, you didn’t need to hit me,” Juyeon complains as he rubs his side.
“Anyway, it’s nice to see you guys. Y/N, I’ll see you soon,” Jacob gives his signature smile before he walks off with Juyeon.
For a moment, you stay seated on the bench as Changmin, Chanhee, and Sunwoo look at each other.
“Did Juyeon just say… what I think he just said?” Sunwoo finally speaks out.
“Yah!” Chanhee smacks your arm. “Did you hear him?! Jacob has talked about you!”
You cannot help but smile at the events that just played out. “Ah, look at that smile,” Changmin says as he shakes his head.
Sunwoo chuckles as he grabs your arm. “C’mon, let’s talk about what happened over dinner.”
Tumblr media
It has been a few days since you first got paired with Jacob. You still cannot believe that the only reason that you finally get to work with him is that Sunwoo somehow spilled your secret to the one person you only hoped would never find out.
“What do you mean you told him?! Are you serious?!” You reacted as you stood up from your seat with your hands planted on the table.
“In my defense, Kevin hyung somehow connected the dots and would not believe me every time I denied it,” Sunwoo says as he raises his hands in defense.
After a long day, your friend group found themselves in Changmin and Chanhee’s place with boxes of Chinese takeout in each person’s hands. While you were talking about the events that transpired during the meeting, you noticed guilt prominent on Sunwoo’s face.
“Sunwoo! I only asked you to invite Kevin and Jacob to Eric’s next party, whenever that may be,” You groan as you find yourself collapsing back into your seat.
You feel someone bring your head to their shoulder as they rub on your arm. “You had one job. How could you have possibly fucked it up?” Chanhee asks as he shakes his head.
“Oh c’mon! I really tried to convince Kevin to bring Jacob to Eric’s Halloween party. I think it’s because he knows I don’t know Jacob at all. And he knows I’m best friends with you! Won’t you cut me some slack?” Sunwoo pouts as he tries to reach out for your hand.
You only scowl at him and cross your arms. “I am never asking you to be a wingman for me. I should’ve just gone to Changmin or Chanhee for this.”
“There’s no way Kevin didn’t connect the dots earlier with how you act around his best friend,” Changmin jokes after he takes a slurp of his black bean noodles.
You frown at him as you raise your head from Chanhee’s shoulder. “Be so for real right now. There’s no way he noticed because it’s not like I interact with him enough for Kevin to even see if I have a crush on him.” You nudge Chanhee which causes him to choke on his noodles. “Back me up here.”
“Are you kidding me?” Chanhee coughs out before he wipes his mouth. “I was literally eating.”
“Just back me up!”
He rolls his eyes. “Sure, I guess.”
Changmin smiles at Chanhee’s words. “See! Clearly, Kevin noticed.”
“Chanhee just said he agrees with me!”
“I really don’t. I just want to eat my noodles,” Chanhee says, which causes you to smack his arm.
You groan and say, “You all suck. Even Eric is nicer to me and we barely interact.”
“Yeah, but you love us.” Changmin winks at you. “You can’t survive without us three.”
You only scowl since he was pointing out the truth.
Now that you know that Kevin is aware of your silly crush on Jacob, you have been on edge. You were afraid that he might have told Jacob since it seemed like something he would want to mention. That is why you were with Changmin as you anxiously waited for the arrival of the one 5th-year student who seemed to make you hyperaware of your own actions.
“I’m so scared.”
“You’ll be fine.”
You groan as you keep staring at the door. Currently, you and Changmin were at the university’s outdoor area with enough picnic tables for a hundred students. Although you two had your laptops out, only one was clearly focused on their work (clearly, it was not you).
“Changmin!” You exclaim as you finally reach out to the guy beside you, gripping his arm. “Do you think Kevin told him?”
Changmin rips his eyes away from his thesis document and gives you a good look. “Yes.” Once you let out a whine, he only laughs as his eyes set back on the unfinished document. “You will be fine! All you need to do is act natural… if you can.” As he mutters those last words, you smack his arm.
“Oh god, what if he just ditches on the meeting?”
“You are seriously overthinking this.”
“I mean, I would ditch a meeting if I found out someone younger had a crazy crush on me.”
Changmin looks at you and gives you a frown. “Are you really that unprofessional? Do you really think Jacob hyung would be that unprofessional?”
“No, but he could still surprise me,” you say as you look at your opened document that showed your possible list of interviewees for the K-Pop idol students coverage.
Changmin scoffs and says, “Yeah, just give him the benefit of the doubt. Also, I could never imagine anyone younger having a crush on you—let alone anyone liking you that way.”
You gasp and shove Changmin to the side. “Ji Changmin! How could you say that!”
“What? It’s true though!” You only frown at his words and look back at your document.
“Yah, leave now. I hate talking to you.”
“I’m just joking!” He hugs you. “Those who don’t think of you as someone crush-worthy are just blind.” You only hum as you continue to type away. “Though, it would still be weird to even imagine it.”
“Yah!” You shove his arms away as he only laughs.
You sigh as you look at him and back to your document. “I can’t believe I have put up with you for 5 years.”
“Yeah, remember when you used to like Sunwoo?” You shove him once more which only has him erupt into giggles.
“What? It’s just funny to think about,” Changmin admits, which makes you roll your eyes.
“You used to like Sunwoo?” Both yours and Changmin’s heads whip up to see a confused Jacob.
Your lips part open. “J-jacob! We didn’t notice you got here.”
Jacob chuckles as he scratches the back of his head. “I didn’t mean to eavesdrop. It’s just that while walking to you two, I overheard that part of the conversation.” He then takes a seat across from you two.
“Oh.” You scratch your arm. “It’s nothing like that. It was just a small crush then because we grew up together. But when I look back at it, it’s just so silly! Like, me liking Sunwoo? So weird, am I right?” You elbow Changmin which only has him yelp. “Right, Changmin?” As you look at him, you give him a smile that only says “Say something.”
“Y-yeah, it was a weak moment for them. It’s something the group laughs about because they got over it so quickly,” He says as he smiles at the guy older than him.
Jacob laughs as he takes out his laptop and says, “I get it. Sometimes, it gets hard to really tell whether you like a friend because you see them as a potential partner or you like what’s familiar.”
For a moment, you process his words. “Yeah… that’s exactly it.” You nod.
Jacob is right. When it comes to liking a friend, the reason behind it tends to get confusing—the line between a potential partner and just someone familiar tends to get blurred. When you looked back at your strong and short-lived crush on Sunwoo, you realized that you never got a good understanding of whether those feelings were as genuine as you thought they would be.
He hums as he opens his laptop to the document you share with him. “Anyway, it’s nice to see you. Also you, Changmin.”
“Yeah.” Changmin closes his laptop and puts it in his bag. “I’ll head out since I’ve got a meeting to attend to.”
“Oh, I see! It was still nice to see you,” Jacob says with a smile so precious; you wish you could capture it.
Changmin smiles back at him before giving you one final look. “Just call me when you’re done, okay?” You nod at him to which he gives you a squeeze on the shoulder and a wink.
With that, he left your table. You watched him walk away with a little bounce on his feet. As you look back at the person in front of you, you realize that you are now alone with Jacob.
“Are you ready to work?” As soon as you nod, he gives you that all-knowing smile that speaks a thousand comforting words.
Tumblr media
It is 6:38 PM when Sunwoo decides to barge into your room. It has been three days since you had your meeting with Jacob. Other than work, not much happened (though you still keep replaying his smile in your head). You are lying down on your bed with Changmin as you watch Lee Youngji’s No Prepare with Bibi.
“Let’s go to Mingyu’s party!” You and Changmin pay no attention to him as you continue to watch the video.
Sunwoo groans as he flops down on your bed and says, “C’mon! We haven’t partied in ages. Don’t you guys miss it?”
“No,” Changmin scoffs, which makes him smack Changmin’s leg.
“Y/N? Don’t you want to drink?” He looks at you with glassy eyes and a pout. You only flip him off which makes him whine. “Ah, c’mon! Chanhee said he’d go if you two would. Why don’t you guys want to drink?”
You start to groan and pause the video. “Sunwoo, can’t I watch my girlfriend Bibi in peace with Changmin?”
“No.”
“Sunwoo, I would love to but…” You tap your iPad screen to look at the time. “... I have to study for my test tomorrow. I cannot risk getting a hangover.”
“Then just don’t drink a lot!”
“You know that’s impossible,” Changmin mutters, which makes you smack his arm. “I’m just pointing out the obvious!”
You sit up and say, “Yeah, well… ugh, you’re right. I actually can’t go.”
“Oh, come on! What if we watch over you?” Sunwoo attempts to convince you.
You turn your head to look at Changmin who was already staring at you. “What do you think?”
“Why do you only ask Changmin?”
“Because I know I can’t trust you to watch over me.” You look back once more at Changmin who was deep in thought.
“Fine.” Changmin sighs as he sits up. “I’ll take care of Y/N.”
“Ah, thank you, Changmin!” Sunwoo exclaims as he hugs him.
“Yah, get your hands off me!”
Tumblr media
The four of you arrived at Mingyu’s friend group’s shared house at 8:34 PM. The place was filled with students of different years; some you recognized while others were a mystery.
Since the three boys always hung out at your place, they already had some pieces of clothing stored in the corner of your room. All four of you were dressed up in casual clothing adorned with different accessories.
“Okay, we all have to agree that we're leaving together. That means no one is left behind nor does anyone just decide to leave early without our knowledge,” Chanhee says as he points at you and Sunwoo.
You sigh and nod. “We leave at 12:30 AM. And no Sunwoo, we aren’t leaving later than that.” Sunwoo only pouts. “I actually have a class to attend that I cannot cut.”
“Yeah, yeah. C’mon, let’s go!” He exclaims as he drags Chanhee into the house.
You frown as the two disappear from your sight. Changmin links arms with you which makes you look at him. “You’ll take care of me, right?” He only smiles and drags you into the house.
As the two of you were walking, he would greet people he would recognize. It was only when you finally reached the kitchen area that you were pushed to sit down on one of the stools. You watch his back as he mixes up a drink for you.
“Y/N, I’m going to limit you to drinking like… three drinks maybe,” Changmin says as he finally turns to look at you with two red cups in his hands.
As he hands you his mixed concoction, you sniff it. “What is this?”
“Something fruity… like you.” You only roll your eyes as you finally take a sip.
The tanginess of orange and the sweetness of strawberries filled your mouth. “Woah, it tastes like fruit punch. When did you learn to make this one?”
“I’ve made this for you before.” Changmin takes a sip from his cup. “I think you were just too drunk to remember it.”
You frown at him as you take another sip. “I have no idea why I’m here. Man, I should be studying for my test.”
“To be fair, you made me study with you before we started watching Youngji’s video.” Changmin looks through the snack table and grabs some chips for him to munch on. “And you seem to know your shit pretty well. You’ll be fine.”
“That’s true,” You say as you down your drink.
“You finished your drink already?!”
You give a guilty smile as you hand your cup to Changmin. “It was good.”
“Y/N, you’re supposed to drink slowly! You’ll get drunk if you drink way too fast.”
“No way, that shit tastes like juice.”
Changmin groans and says, “Y/N, that has like how many different alcoholic drinks in that cup. There’s like tequila, vodka, and other shit.”
You gasp as he finds something to put in your cup. “Jesus, Changmin! I thought you were going to take care of me.”
“Yeah, but I thought I could trust you enough to at least handle it yourself also. God, drink some water.” Changmin hands you a cup now full of water.
Once you down the cup, you throw the cup away.
“Yo, Changmin!” You hear someone call out your best friend’s name. Changmin sighs as he looks at you.
“You can go to that, I’ll be fine here,” You say with a smile.
“Remember, only three drinks, okay?” Once you nod, Changmin pats your head and makes his way out of the kitchen.
You sat alone as you looked over the snacks in front of you. You were not the type of person to mope around, and you did not want to force your friends to keep you company. With people coming in and out of the kitchen, you decide to grab your phone and look through Twitter to pass the time.
That is until you hear someone call out your name. “Y/N!” When you look up, you are surprised to see Kevin making his way toward you. It is only when he gets closer that you notice the cute 5th-year student trailing behind him.
“Oh! Kevin… and Jacob? It’s so nice to see you here,” you say as you quickly put your phone away. It is not that you did not expect to see Kevin and Jacob—scratch that, it is exactly that. You were not expecting to see your editor and your crush at a party where you were left to your own devices.
“Hey! Why is my favorite writer all alone?” Kevin asks with a pout.
Jacob makes his way to the stool beside you and takes a seat. “Hi,” he says with that familiar smile that still gives you butterflies.
“Ah, I came here with Chanhee, Changmin, and Sunwoo. They just have other friends they’re talking to so it’s fine,” you say as you scratch your arm.
Kevin grabs some fries and pops them into his mouth. “Damn, well don’t you worry. Both Jacob and I are here to keep our favorite 2nd-year some company.”
The best thing about Jacob and Kevin is that they never once made you feel excluded. In the work you do and all social gatherings that the members of the publication are invited to, they always seem to look out for you. Although you may not know the people they were planning to meet at this party, they still chose to stay with you.
“But first, let’s take some shots!” Kevin exclaims which only has Jacob groan.
“Kevin, the last time you did shots you were blackout drunk. Do you not have class tomorrow?”
“I actually do not! My professor decided to cancel class so I am free to drink!” Kevin smiles as he looks through the selection of liquors. “Will you drink with me, Y/N? Since Jacob is the designated driver.”
For a moment, you look back and forth between Jacob and Kevin. You knew that you would be in big trouble if you drank too much. That is why Changmin could not get mad at you if you drank in moderation.
“Yeah, fuck it. I’m not a lightweight.”
What turned into one shot turned into four shots and two cups (you think) of Jacob’s specialty cocktails. If you were not feeling the buzz then, you were definitely feeling it now. It helped that the alcohol was giving you enough confidence to talk to Jacob freely.
“Damn Y/N, you really know how to handle your liquor,” Kevin points out as he takes a sip from his drink prepared by Jacob.
“Jacob, you know how to prepare drinks for someone who does not usually attend parties,” you say with a small giggle following.
He smiles as he takes a sip from his cup of apple juice and says, “I think I could look into bartending if my degree in Korean Language and Literature fails to get me a job.”
“Hey! I still think you could look into singing,” Kevin says as he nudges Jacob.
You feel your eyes widen at the new piece of information. “You sing?” As you start to notice Jacob’s cheeks get tinted pink, you cannot help but hear your heartbeat in your ears.
“Yeah.” Jacob scratches the back of his head. “I’ve been doing it since high school.”
“You write and sing? Jesus, you got everything,” you say as you eat some chips.
“And he’s pretty good at basketball.” You gasp at this newfound information. “That’s what I’m saying!”
Jacob rolls his eyes as he playfully shoves Kevin. “I don’t have everything. I barely know how to dance.”
“Okay, but you could learn!” Kevin bounces his shoulders up and down. “I believe you could be an idol if you wanted.”
“You could have been a perfect interviewee for the K-Pop idol students coverage we’re doing.”
Jacob laughs at what you say and shakes his head. “Yeah, but I like what I do now.”
Kevin sighs as he wraps his arm around Jacob’s shoulder. “You are too humble for this world. You’re like an angel—not everyone will be blessed to have witnessed you.”
“That’s actually… so true. Wait, you kind of cooked with that,” you say which only has Kevin laugh.
“Right? God, I am such a writer.”
Before you could say anymore, you feel someone grab onto your shoulder. When you look behind you, you see Changmin with a disappointed look. “How much did you have?”
You take a moment to process his words which only makes him grab onto your face. “Y/N.” He scolds as he feels how hot your cheeks are from the alcohol.
“I swear, I’m okay,” You say as you clutch his hands that rested on your cheeks.
“How much did you drink?”
“C’mon, Changmin. I swear–”
“How much?”
You sigh as you move your hands back down to your lap. “Like… 2 more drinks.”
“In the time I was gone?!”
“Hey, Y/N said they were fine, right?” Kevin attempts to step in.
You nod which makes Changmin finally let go of your face. “Yeah, I’m okay. I swear.”
He only sighs as he sets his hands on his hips. “You sure?” Once you nod, he finally lets it go.
“Sorry, it’s just that I was in charge of taking care of Y/N but Juyeon and some other people from the dance team called for me. Hi again, Kevin and Jacob hyung.” He smiles at the two.
Jacob smiles and says, “It’s fine, you’re only looking out for them.”
Before more could be said, you hear someone call out your names. “Y/N-ah! Changmin-ah! Come here!”
As you look to where the sound came from, you can see a tipsy Sunwoo waving his arms at you from the living room. “Bring Jacob hyung and Kevin hyung too.”
“Is… he okay?” Jacob asks as he stands up straight.
You get off your stool and say, “I don’t know.”
Before you decide to leave the kitchen, you reach out for Changmin’s hand and drag him out. The four of you make your way past the busy crowd until you finally see Sunwoo, Chanhee, Juyeon, and some other people you did not recognize. At the coffee table, you see different cups and bottles. Yet, there is one particular cup that catches your eye—one filled with whatever you can imagine.
“We’re testing each other’s loyalty.” As soon as Chanhee says that, Changmin groans.
“Are you serious?”
Sunwoo smiles as he wraps his arm around Changmin’s shoulders. “It’ll be fun! Kevin, Jacob, Juyeon, and Hyunjae are in one team while we are in the other!”
“Wait, but I can’t drink. I’m driving,” Jacob says, which only has Kevin laughing.
“Don’t worry, you’ll just be the last.”
In the loyalty game, you are split into two teams. If your team loses playing rock, paper, or scissors, you all have to drink one shared cup of whatever alcohol concoction the other team made. The real test of loyalty lies in how much your team is willing to drink before forcing the last person in line to drink the rest.
Whenever you four played this game, there was always a shithead (usually Sunwoo) who would drink as little as possible so that the remaining members would drink more. You could not get mad at Sunwoo for usually doing such; it sounds like something you would do too. However, with you having a test tomorrow, you really did not want to risk anything.
“Are we really doing this?” You ask as Sunwoo pushes you and Changmin to his side.
Sunwoo only nods as both he and Chanhee have their hands out. “C’mon, we need to decide the order.”
While the other team was busy deciding their order, you four were playing amongst themselves. Despite what you wanted, the universe had its own plans—the order was Chanhee, Sunwoo, Changmin, and lastly, you.
“Oh, c’mon! Sunwoo, your ass better drink,” you exclaim as you groan.
“Has your order been decided?” Hyunjae, someone you only met right before the game, asks which has you four falling in line.
The other team was ordered by Kevin, Juyeon, Hyunjae, and Jacob. As everyone let out their hums of approval, the game began. You were not paying attention to how the game was playing out as you were up in your thoughts. It is only until you come face-to-face with Jacob’s angelic face (though you do not miss that he had his hand out).
“W-what? You guys lost?!” You exclaimed as you looked at the three devils you always seem to be teamed with.
Sunwoo scratches the back of his head and says, “I believe in you?”
“Your tone makes it sound like you don’t!”
“If it helps, you have a good chance of beating me. I usually suck at these,” Jacob says with a smile.
Somehow, you allow yourself to be fooled by that smile. You block out every sound as you continue to be entranced by his features. That is why when you play the game, you do not realize that you played paper while he played scissors.
Jacob’s team cheered as they grabbed onto him. As the opposing team cheered, your team was left disappointed. You all looked back and forth between each other and the singular cup that rested on the table.
“Bottoms up!” Kevin exclaims which has Chanhee pick up the cup.
He gives you three a good look before he takes a big gulp of the drink. With only ¼ of the drink left, he hands it to Sunwoo who only has a sly smirk on his face.
“Sunwoo, don’t you dare.”
Somehow, the universe made sure to give you one shithead that you would have to endure for the rest of your life. It had to be a shithead that you could never imagine life without. Why did that shithead have to be Sunwoo?
Sunwoo only took a small sip from the cup and handed it to Changmin, earning laughs from the opposing team. Although you could hear Chanhee scolding him, it clearly did not matter to him. You and Changmin give a good look at each other.
“Hey, I can handle it,” You say as you try to tug on his arm.
You do not know how many drinks Changmin already had, but you knew that your friend could not handle his alcohol as much as you could. Still, he chose to ignore your protests as he looked back at everyone.
He tipped the cup back and downed more than he could clearly handle. “Wow, Changmin-ah!” The others cheered. You were only left with barely a dribble of alcohol as he finally handed you the cup. Although everyone was happy with how much he drank, you were worried.
“Changmin, you are so strong,” Kevin says as he pats his shoulders.
You notice the way Changmin wobbles in place. “Ah, come on,” you say as you force him and yourself to take a seat on the couch.
“You didn’t have to drink that much,” you scolded him as you signal Chanhee to get some water for the both of you while the others seemed off in their own worlds.
“It’s fine. I didn’t want you to drink too much because you have a test tomorrow,” he says as he leans his head on your shoulder.
Changmin would always spend his time looking out for you even if you did not ask. It has always been like that since you first became friends with him. Somehow, you were always under the care of your best friend.
You sigh as you rub your hand on his shoulder. “Yeah, but you could have left a little for me. I know you are worse with alcohol than I am.”
Chanhee arrives with two cups of water. “C’mon, drink up.”
You grab your cup and quickly drink it up before setting it down on the table. You grab Changmin’s cup from Chanhee and try to nudge the boy beside you.
“Hey, you need to drink some water,” you say, which makes Changmin finally grab the cup and finish as much as he can.
You nudged him once more to finish the whole cup of water to which he listened. “Good. You need to drink water after how much you’ve drank.”
Chanhee sighs at the sight of his two friends who were sprawled on the couch and said, “Sunwoo, I think it’s time we go.”
“W-what? Why?” Sunwoo whines as he takes a seat beside his drunk friends.
“I’m tipsy and your friend here is fucking drunk,” you say as you point to Changmin whose head was on your shoulder and eyes were getting droopy.
Sunwoo frowns for a moment. “Fine, let’s go.” He attempts to stand up with the help of Chanhee.
“Hey.” You nudge as you whisper to Changmin. “Let’s go home, okay?”
He looks up and stares into your eyes for a moment. And suddenly he erupts into giggles.
“Y/N-ah, your face is so funny.”
You roll your eyes at what he says and nudge him off your shoulder. As he whines, you help him off the couch. His arm wraps around your shoulder as he slouches beside you.
“Hey, let me help,” Jacob says as he helps hold up Changmin.
“Ah, thank you.”
The three of you slowly make your way out of the house and see Sunwoo and Chanhee standing by the sidewalk. You only notice that Kevin followed as soon as he spoke. “Hey, do you and your friends need a ride back to your place?”
“Oh, you don’t have to! We were just going to get an Uber,” you attempt to reassure them.
Jacob shakes his head and says, “No, it’s fine! I think it would be safer for you also.”
You bite your lip as you look at Chanhee. All he does is give you a shrug as he continues to nurse Sunwoo. As soon as you sigh, you decide to give in to your editor’s offer.
“Thank you, Kevin and Jacob. I’m sorry about this. Please let Chanhee and I pay you back for this.”
“It’s fine! It’s nice to see you and your friends,” Jacob says with a smile.
As your group makes its way to Jacob’s car, you notice that his car is big enough to carry at most eight people. Sunwoo and Chahee got in the third row of the car, you and Changmin got in the second row, and Kevin sat in the shotgun. Once Jacob turned on the ignition, you told him the address of Changmin and Chanhee’s place.
The ride was mostly quiet with the occasional grunts from Sunwoo. Changmin was fast asleep on your shoulder as you stared out the window.
Usually, the roles would have been reserved—Changmin would spend most of his time taking care of your drunk ass. Yet, to see him go to such lengths to make sure you do not miss your test warms your heart.
Tumblr media
It is 11:35 AM. You were on your way back to Changmin and Chanhee’s place to check up on the three boys. Thankfully, your test was not too hard. You knew that if you studied a little harder, you could have aced it.
As soon as you arrived at their place, you knocked on the door only to be greeted by Chanhee who was pretty alive. “Hey, how are they?” You ask as you step in and remove your shoes to put aside.
“Sunwoo is fine. Changmin, however, is dying. I think he’s just been in bed,” he says as he closes the door behind you.
You quickly make your way to Changmin’s room and open the door to only see him still in bed with squinted eyes. As you pout at the sight, you quietly make your way to the bed and sit down beside him. Due to the sudden action, his eyes snap open which has you show him a guilty smile.
“Hey, Changmin-ah.” You set your hand on his leg and lightly rub it up and down. “Are you okay?”
It takes a moment for him to process your words. As soon as he lets out a groan, you only chuckle.
“I got you something.” You look through your bag and pull out a bottle of hangover cure before dropping it to the floor. “I know you usually drink this before drinking, but I think it would still help you now.”
Changmin only hums one more as his eyes start to get droopy.
“C’mon, drink this before you go back to sleep,” You say as you scoot closer to him.
You helped him sit up straight and opened the bottle for him. Although Changmin grabbed it, you helped make sure he would finish it before placing it on the bedside table. He started to lie back down on the bed, dragging you along.
“Hey.” You try to move only for him to wrap his arms around you and nuzzle his face into your neck. “Changmin, I–”
Changmin only shushes you. For a moment, you two remain like that. He always seems to cling to you whenever he can. In your time knowing him, you have always noticed that he likes physical touch more than your other two friends. It never bothered you. If anything, it felt nice to know that there would always be someone who would want to cling to you—if he needed to do so, you always found yourself allowing it.
“Changmin-ah, we have practice,” Sunwoo says as he enters the room to see you two cozied up.
As he takes in the sight, he only frowns. “Is he still dead?”
You frown back and whisper, “You guys have dance practice? We should have never gone out drinking, the fuck.”
“To be fair, I was not expecting him to drink that much.” Despite Sunwoo’s attempts to defend himself, you only flip him off.
You look at the guy sleeping next to you, feeling his breath against the side of your neck. The thing with Changmin is that he hates missing practice. There have been instances where he would get a fever and be extremely guilty for missing it.
As you sigh, you look back at Sunwoo who only had a guilty smile plastered on his face. “Let him sleep in. He’s not in the state to practice right now.”
“Y/N, you know he’s going to be mad if he misses out on practice.”
“Well, let him be mad.” You frown. “He can be mad at me for all I care. Let him rest, I already feel bad that he’s like this because of us.” With that, Sunwoo nods and leaves the room.
Tumblr media
It is 7:43 PM. You and Jacob finished interviewing Song Yuqi, a member of (G)I-DLE‎. Your next and last interview for your assigned coverage would be four days from now with Choi Yeonjun of TXT.
“Ah, what a day!” You exclaim as you made your way out of the classroom you were interviewing Yuqi in. Jacob and Chanhee trailed behind you with slouched shoulders.
Chanhee only sighs as he looks through the photos he took. “Tell me about it.”
“Nice work, you two. I can’t believe it’s this late already.” Jacob takes a look at the time. “What do you guys have planned now?”
“I’m actually going to hang out with Hyunjae hyung.”
You gasp at Chanhee’s words and smack his arm. “How come I didn’t know about this?!”
“To be fair, not much has happened. We just exchanged numbers at the party,” he mumbles the last sentence. “Which is why I need to go. I’ll see you guys for Yeonjun’s interview!”
With that, you were left alone with Jacob.
“Care to walk with me?” You give him a smile and nod. As the two of you walked, a comfortable silence came. Throughout your time working with Jacob, you felt happy to be with him whether you two were talking about nothing or everything.
“So, how are you? How’s Changmin and Sunwoo?” You laugh at Jacob’s question.
It has been a week since you went to Mingyu’s party—a week since Changmin took care of you. Throughout the week, you have not been able to spend time with him and Sunwoo due to the press cycle work. Chanhee could easily see them since he lives with Changmin.
At first, you were fine with it since it meant you were spending more time with Jacob (with Chanhee joining every once in a while). You got to learn more about him outside of the image you created in your head.
He has always loved to sing and play basketball since he was young. However, it was only in high school that he obtained this newfound love for Korean literature. The more he ventured into the topic, the more he felt happy with pursuing it as his course.
What surprised you is that he never planned to write for the university’s newspaper. Despite being one of the best writers you know in the publication (not an overstatement), he only applied because Kevin dragged him to do so. You never knew that their friendship went way back since high school.
As the days went by, you started to miss your other best friends. You texted them occasionally in the group chat but not much was said other than reasons why you could not meet up with them. Your time with Jacob sadly could not make up for the fact that you missed hanging out with your best friends.
“They’re okay. I haven’t been hanging out with them that much since the party because of the work we do,” you admit.
Jacob pouts and says, “I can only imagine since they do have practice also. That’s why I find it hard to hang out with Juyeon as well.”
You only sigh as you two make your way out of the building. “Yeah, I just miss seeing them. I know they have been stressed about the upcoming competition also so it doesn’t help that we’re just busy.”
“Yeah, it’s funny how even if we're all in the same university, it’s still hard to find time to hang out.”
Jacob is right. With your friend group coming from different courses, years, and extracurricular activities, it does get hard to find time to meet. Despite fixing your schedules to make sure that you all would have lunch together, some obligations seem to get in the way.
Yet, you four always made it work. No matter how different your schedules may be or how different your priorities are, your friend group always found its way back to each other.
Before you could say more, you feel your phone vibrate in your pocket. Once you take it out, you notice a message from Changmin.
qramzi 🐿️: are you free rn? qramzi 🐿️: if you are, come to the dance studio
“You should go to him.” You look up only to see Jacob smiling at you.
You pout and ask, “How did you know it was from one of them?”
“Just a feeling.” He hums as he looks at the athletics center from afar. “Also, you kind of have this certain smile every time you talk to your friends—it’s nice to see.”
You cannot hide the blush that starts to creep onto your face. It never dawned on you that Jacob has observed you enough to notice such a small detail. As soon as his smile got bigger, you were certain that he noticed how flustered you were.
“I’ll see you a few days from now. Thanks, Jacob.” And with that, you were off to the athletics center.
The moment you got into the center, you could hear the faint sounds of “No Diggity” by Blackstreet from afar. You walked to the source until you arrived in front of the door leading to the main dance studio. As soon as you swung it open, you could see your best friend in the middle of a dance routine.
Changmin was dressed up in jogging pants and a white shirt that was starting to cling onto his torso. You could notice the light shine on his skin, glistening from sweat. Only time could tell how long he has been practicing.
The moment he spots you through the mirror, he quickly halts his movements and runs toward you. “Y/N-ah!” He barely gives you time to enter the studio and wraps his arm around your shoulder.
“Changmin! You’re sweaty!” You complain as he continues to hold onto you. As you closed the doors behind you, he finally let go of you with a big smile on his face. “You get so happy to see me. Maybe I should just avoid seeing you,” you joke only for him to roll his eyes.
“Don’t even try. You know damn well you can’t survive without seeing me too.”
You only smile as you follow him back to the spot where he was practicing. He reached out for his phone to pause the music while you sat on the ground to lean your back against the mirror.
“So, is there any reason you called me here?”
Changmin shrugs as he wipes the sweat off his forehead. “Just missed you, that’s all.”
“Be for real right now.”
“Fine. I need a ride back home.” You roll your eyes as Changmin starts to beg you.
“C’mon! You know how hard it is to find a ride back at this time, especially at our university.”
“Yeah yeah, whatever. Just buy me dinner at least.”
Changmin frowns and asks, “You haven’t eaten?” Once you nod, he shakes his head and grabs his phone before taking a seat beside you. “You really need to eat.” He passes you his phone. “How do you even survive your meetings with an empty stomach?”
“To be fair, I had a late lunch.”
“And what exactly did you eat for your late lunch?”
“Well…” You give a sheepish smile. “Some yogurt.”
“Exactly what I thought. Whatever, just order something for the both of us.”
Tumblr media
“That was good,” you say as you rest your hand on your belly.
Changmin is seated across from you with a frown on his face. “Really? I wasn’t able to tell since you practically devoured my food.”
“Hey! You were the one who offered your food to me!”
Changmin laughs and ruffles your hair. “I’m just kidding.” You frown and attempt to fix the mess he created.
“You have a competition, right? At the end of the semester?”
“Yeah.” Changmin sighs as he looks down at his phone. “It’s happening around late November so that it doesn’t coincide with finals season.”
You decide to ask him the golden question. “How is it so far?”
For a moment, Changmin does not respond. He lets his head loll backward and stares up at the ceiling. Before you could say anything more, he started to speak.
“It’s a lot, really. I think it’s sinking in that this will probably be the last competition I participate in since I’m planning to choreograph one of the performances for the year-end concert.” He looks back at you. “I just… want it to be perfect, you know?”
You have always known Changmin to be a perfectionist. Since your time working with him in the publication, he has always been particular about the work he puts out. Sunwoo has also shared his experience with the perfectionist when it came to dancing (and it was not a pleasant experience). Though, you understood where he came from.
“I want my last performance to be something I am proud of…” He takes a deep breath. “Because I know I won’t have another opportunity to dance again.”
As he says those words, you reach out to his hand that rests on his lap and hold onto it. He looks down at your intertwined fingers and shows a small smile at the sight.
“I understand where this is coming from. I don’t even think it has fully sunk in that you’re graduating already,” you admit as you bite the inside of your cheek.
Changmin chuckles and jokes, “Don’t think you’ll survive without me?”
“Yeah,” you answer without letting a beat pass.
It is true. No matter how independent you made yourself out to be, you knew how much you relied on your friends—most especially Changmin. You have gone so long in your life with your best friends at your side that you never let yourself imagine a life without them.
“It’s almost like when you first graduated high school; I remember I couldn’t stop crying after you graduated.” Changmin laughs at the memory you mention. “You remember that, right?”
“Of course I do. I remember I was comforting you and Sunwoo on the day I was finally free from high school.”
You smile as you look back down at your hand that held him. “It’s just silly to recall. I mean, it already seemed like Sunwoo was set on going to the same university as you—just not me.”
“But you’re here now.”
And you nod as you look back at his eyes. “Yeah, I am.”
Changmin moves to take a seat beside you. With his hand still latched onto yours, he draws circles on the back of your hand.
“I’m glad to be here, you know?” You lean your head on his shoulder. “I like to know that as we grow in the things we like to do, we’ll always be there to witness each other reach heights we used to dream of.”
It is silent for a moment. All you could hear was Changmin’s breathing in sync with yours. You let your eyes close for a minute, happy enough to just be in that moment with your pillar of strength—your very own reason to keep going.
“I’m glad you’re here, too.”
Tumblr media
“Ah, thank you so much again for having this interview with us!” You bow with Jacob and Chanhee to express your gratitude to Yeonjun. The four of you have officially wrapped the last interview for the coverage of K-Pop student idols. With Yuqi’s and Yeonjun’s experiences, the three of you got to learn the joys and struggles that come with such a life.
“No, thank you! It was nice to talk about my experience,” he says with a smile. “I’ll be heading out. It’s nice to see you again, Chanhee hyung.” Chanhee gives him a wave before he bids farewell and leaves the room. You sigh happily as you look down at the notes you took.
“Chanhee, you know him?” Jacob asks to which he nods.
“Yeah, I’ve had some classes with him. Not much interaction but he’s alright.”
You nod as you flip through your notes. “He’s cute.”
“Yah!” Chanhee smacks your arm only to make you laugh. “You know how risky it is to pursue an idol?!”
“I’m just saying! Jeez, I’m not going to marry him or anything. I’ll just check the group out,” you whisper those last words which causes him to shake his head.
“Whatever, I can’t stop your ass,” he admits defeat as he stands up from his seat and slings his messenger bag on his shoulder. “Y/N, I’ll catch you later at our place, right?”
“Yes, sir!”
“Thanks, again! I’ll see you two for the next coverage.” With that, Chanhee was off.
Once again, you were left alone with Jacob.
“Hey, Y/N?” Your eyes shoot up to Jacob who was already off his chair. “Do you… want to grab lunch with me?”
“I’m sorry?” You could not believe the words that left his mouth.
“I mean, if you’re busy it’s fine!” Jacob scratches the back of his head. “It’s just that it’s about to be lunchtime.”
You cannot help but smile. Never would you have ever expected to have lunch with your crush—let alone be asked by him too. If there was a way to talk to your younger self, you would talk about this moment.
“Y-yeah! I’m free.” You close your notepad and shove it in your bag. “We definitely can.”
Jacob smiles as soon as you get off your seat. “Great! Do you like pho?”
Once you nod, his smile gets bigger. You do not think you will ever get over that smile.

It is 8:23 PM. You and Changmin were seated on his bed as you stared at the homework on your laptop for your Biology class due tomorrow. Although you were a HUMSS student, you had to take general subjects as it was required in the curriculum.
Despite having the choice to pick amongst the different natural science courses offered, you had the unfortunate fate of being left with Human Biology (you did not even know they offered it to non-STEM students) as the only option. You were usually decent with basic science, but you could not understand anything complex. That is why you were glad to have a friend who was well-versed in it.
“Jesus, which professor did you end up with?” Changmin asks as he skims through the worksheet full of questions you barely understood.
“Mr. Hwang.”
“You got him?!” He exclaims with his eyebrows shooting up. “Even I managed to avoid him because of all the reviews he got.”
You roll your eyes and let yourself plop back on his bed. “I know, and I hate him. It just sucks because his schedule fits my timetable perfectly so I thought it would be fine.”
Changmin clicks his tongue against his teeth and says, “Well, your problem now.”
“I know!” You sit back up and frown at your friend who was reading through your homework. “It was impossible to be transferred to another class because the other classes were clashing with my major classes.”
He nudges your shoulder and says, “At least you have me to help you out.”
Somehow, it took only two hours for you two (mostly Changmin) to accomplish your homework. During that time, it was mostly productive with you getting side-tracked by your phone. It helped that he took his time explaining each question rather than leaving you in the dark.
“You know, you’re a very good teacher,” you point out as you finally submit your work through the online portal.
“What do you expect? I mean, I’m hoping to be a preschool teacher,” Changmin says as he stretches his back.
“I don’t know.” You finally open up another document that had your draft for your first coverage with Jacob. “It’s just nice to experience it first-hand.”
Changmin takes a peek at your screen and pouts at the sight. “More work?” You only hum as you go through Kevin’s comments, approving most edits.
“You’re still working with Jacob, right?” As soon as a smile starts to creep in, he gasps. “How is it?”
“It’s fun!” You shrug as you type on your keyboard to answer some comments your editor has and attempt to reflect it on your second draft. “He’s really reliable, so I’m happy that I’m working with him.”
He smirks. “And?”
“Well…” You bit on the inside of your cheek in an attempt to stop the smile from getting any bigger. “He asked me out to lunch.”
As soon as you reveal that piece of information, he smiles. “That’s great.”
“Yeah, it’s not much.”  You shrug. “I mean, it seemed convenient to just eat together then.”
“Hey, it’s still something,” he says, which makes you feel at ease.
Your best friend is well aware of your very barren love life. If anything, you two were in the same boat. Although you always find yourself jumping from one crush to another, he has never found himself entertaining anyone who was interested.
It is funny—you two are opposites that stick together. While you ramble about all your short-lived crushes, he always listened as if it were the morning radio. However, your crushes never progressed past the infatuation stage. That is why when you share with him your adventures with Jacob, it felt like this was turning out differently from other puppy loves.
You sigh and decide to abandon your work. “He’s a very sweet guy.”
“I’m glad he is. You only deserve sweet ones,” Changmin says, which makes you pout.
“And thank you for always reminding me that.”
It is true—he has always made sure to remind you that you only deserve happiness. No matter how many one-sided crushes, terrible professors, or mental hurdles you faced, he liked to remind you that there is something at the end worth fighting for.
“What about you? Do you have anyone you like or just find interesting?” You decide to finally ask your best friend.
He shakes his head and says, “Nope. I’m so busy with dance and thesis.”
You could only laugh in disbelief. “I’m not asking if you’re planning to date anyone! You really don’t find anyone cute?”
“Ask me again after the competition.” He shrugs before letting himself lie down on his bed. “Right now, there’s no one.”
With your work now abandoned, you let yourself lie down beside him. The two of you stared up at the ceiling as you let silence come between you. You could only hear Changmin’s breathing. Once you rolled onto your side, you let your eyes fall on your best friend.
In that period, you let yourself really take in his appearance; his eyebags have gotten heavier; his shoulders seemed tense; his eyes were on the border of closing. You always knew that your best friend has been tired from his academics and dance, but now was the only time you started to see how it was affecting him physically.
“Hey,” you speak up which has him turning his head to face you. Before you could say anything more, your hand reaches out for his. “I’ll always be here for you. You know that, right?”
He gives you a soft smile and intertwines his fingers with yours. Instead of saying anything, he rolls on his side. And with his eyes closed, he brings your linked hands close to where his heart is.

It has been weeks since you and Jacob wrapped up your first coverage together. Surprisingly, you two had minimal edits—almost like a clean close. Kevin seemed happy with the work you two delivered.
“Excellent read! I can’t believe you managed to interview Yeonjun and Yuqi for this,” your editor says as he scans through the article once more. “Plus, Chanhee’s photos and videos are good. Nice call, by the way. I think the videos will help in garnering more attention.”
Kevin quickly switches windows and plays a video of Yeonjun’s interview. “Who did you get from the video editing team to work on this?”
“I worked on it mostly, but Heejin helped in some segments I didn’t know how to execute,” Chanhee answers as he proudly watches his work on Kevin’s screen.
Jacob watches the video in awe and says, “Woah, this is nice. Did you know about this, Y/N?”
“Yup!” You nod as you smile at the three. “Chanhee was showing it to me throughout his editing process. It’s cool to see it come to life.”
You have always known your best friend to be well-versed in photography and video editing. When he initially pitched the idea to you, you wondered why he wanted to do it himself when you had a small staff capable of handling it. However, the process to ring them in would only take too long. Chanhee’s persistence is both a present and a threat—he always found himself pushing limits which could ultimately lead him to his downfall or success.
“God,” Kevin says with a happy sigh. “You three are almost like the perfect team! Im looking forward to the other coverages. Once the two coverages are done, I will for sure treat you three to some food.” The three of you could only smile at his praise and promise.
Now, it is 9:34 PM. The most anticipated party of the year has finally come—Sohn Eric’s Halloween Extravaganza. Despite him being the same year as you and Sunwoo, everyone agreed that he knew how to party. Last year, you two along with Changmin got hammered while Chanhee was left to take care of you three.
At that same party, you made friends with other members of the publication who were not part of the Features staff while Sunwoo was busy making out with someone from the volleyball team. While Changmin was busy hanging out with people from his dance team and playing drinking games, Chanhee was out talking to someone from the soccer team. It seemed that everyone was happy with what they gained from the party.
Now, you and Sunwoo are seated on the couch at Changmin and Chanhee’s place all dressed up in costume. While you chose to go as Howl Jenkins Pendragon from Howl’s Moving Castle, Sunwoo opted to go as a soccer player.
“Your costume is so generic,” you point out as you look at him from head to toe.
Sunwoo frowns. “I’m sorry that I chose to not weeb out like you.”
As he plays with the soccer ball in his hand, you decide to ask him a question. “Where did you even find the jersey?”
All he does is point to the back of his shirt which has the last name “Lee” and the number ten. “I asked Dokyeom hyung and he had an old jersey that I could borrow.”
You furrow your eyebrows, confused to hear that name leave his mouth. “Since when were you and Dokyeom friends?”
“Since that one party where we played the loyalty game,” he says with a smirk. “C’mon Y/N, didn’t you say I was Mr. Popular?”
You could only roll your eyes at the way he flatters himself. “God, you are so annoying. And also so boring. I can’t believe you chose to dress up as your old sport just because you want to make out with someone.”
Your best friend shrugs with a smirk still resting on his lips. “Or go up to the fourth base with someone.” As soon as he says those words, you scrunch your face up in disgust.
“Changmin! Chanhee! Please save me from this fucktard!” Sunwoo shoves your arm which only makes you laugh. You spot Chanhee finally leaving his room all dressed up in a blue jumpsuit and goggles sitting on the top of his head.
“Ah, you did end up going with Pororo!” You exclaim with a smile on your face.
Chanhee spins around in place to show you two his whole fit. “Does it look nice?” He asks with a shy smile on his face.
“Yeah! It suits you,” Sunwoo says, which allows Chanhee to feel relieved.
“Where’s Changmin? It’s almost 10 PM!” You say as you stand up from the couch. Chanhee only shrugs as he takes a seat beside Sunwoo. “I don’t know what’s taking him this long.” You sigh and walk towards the door of Changmin’s room.
“Changmin!” You knock on his door. “We’re waiting for you.”
No response. With a frown on your face, you swing the door open. As you step into the room, you notice that everything has been tidied up in his room, no sign of him getting ready. You tilt your head at the sight, clearly confused.
“What the fuck? Chanhee, he’s not even here!” Before you could do any more, you felt someone grab onto your shoulder with a menacing whisper following right after.
“Peekaboo.”
As soon as you hear those words, you screech. “What the fuck!” You spin around only to reveal that the sinister voice belonged to Changmin whose smile was bigger than ever. As you take in his costume of blue overalls, red wig, and a lazy attempt at stitches on his face, you notice a creepy doll tucked in his arm.
“Yah, Ji Changmin!” You whine as you let yourself take a seat on his bed with your hand clutching your chest.
He only laughs as he parades his doll around. “You’re still such a scaredy cat.”
You frown and say, “You’re so mean! You know how much I hate stuff like this!”
Both Chanhee and Sunwoo quickly enter the room to see the mess Changmin has created. “Yah, you know Y/N hates this more than me and Sunwoo,” Chanhee says as he shakes his head.
“When did you even get that doll?”
“First off, his name is Chucky. And I got him a few days ago! I’m so glad he arrived on time,” Changmin answers Sunwoo’s question and plays with his doll once more.
Chanhee sighs and grabs your hand to pull you off the bed. “C’mon, it’s almost 10 PM. We should head to Eric’s place already.”
The perpetrator quickly links his free arm with yours and pouts. “I’m sorry, Y/N. I was expecting to scare Sunwoo but you came in!”
“What do you mean you were trying to scare me?!”
Changmin scowls at Sunwoo and says, “This isn’t about you.”
You roll your eyes. “It’s fine. I guess you wanted to have your fun before you have to take care of our asses.” Once you see the confusion on Changmin’s face, you cannot help but smile.
“What do you mean I have to take care of you guys?”
Chanhee giggles and says, “That’s what we agreed on last time, remember? You take care of us while Sunwoo, Y/N, and I drink our hearts out.”
It takes Changmin a moment to recall the said conversation which happened a month ago. As soon as the memory hits him, he groans. “Really?”
You shrug, clearly happy with how the events are playing out. “Think of it as your way of saying sorry to me.” He only sighs, knowing he could not argue.

The four of you finally arrived at Eric’s place which was bustling with more people than expected. You could only guess that word about last year’s party got around. From what you could see, some people came in different costumes. In a sea of generic costumes such as nurses and firefighters, you were happy to spot cool costumes like Sanrio or video game characters.
“Well, I’m headed off to find Eric,” Sunwoo says.
“I’ll join you.” Chanhee says before he takes a look at you and Changmin. “Don’t forget, we leave at the latest 1 AM. Don’t separate, okay?”
As soon as you two nod, Sunwoo and Chanhee make a beeline toward wherever Eric may be. You cling to Changmin’s arm as he leads you two to the kitchen. What you do not expect to see is your editor and crush there.
Kevin was dressed up in a black and white leopard print and makeup which you could only guess as Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians. However, nothing could have prepared you for Jacob’s outfit. He wore a volleyball uniform and an orange wig with a volleyball by his hip. You have always been a big fan of Haikyuu, so to see Jacob dressed up as one of your favorite characters made your heart flutter.
“Oh, Kevin and Jacob hyung!” Changmin exclaims, which grabs their attention.
“Y/N and Changmin! It’s so nice to see you,” Kevin says with a smile on his face.
“Ah, Cruella de Vil and Hinata?”
“Yeah! Not a lot of people could figure out who I dressed up as. Everyone loves Jacob’s costume though,” he answers your best friend.
“You’re Howl, right? And Changmin is Chucky because of the doll.” Jacob asks which finally has you snap out of your trance.
Changmin smiles as he tries to show off his doll and answers, “Yeah! Do you like him?”
“He’s… something!” Kevin says which only makes you laugh.
“If it helps, I hate that doll.” In an attempt to agree with your editor, you earn a nudge from Changmin.
“Hey! He’s our kid,” he complains with a pout on his lips. You only ignore his comment and drag him to take a seat with you on the stools.
Since Jacob and Kevin were wrapped up in their conversation, you took this as an opportunity to quietly ask Changmin something. “You don’t want to hang out with your friends from the dance team?”
He shakes his head and says, “I’m fine here with you.” You let yourself smile at him before he could find a way for you two to squeeze into Jacob and Kevin’s conversation.
While the four of you talked over some drinks specially made by Jacob, you were pleasantly surprised to see Eric come in a baseball uniform. “Hey, guys!”
“Eric! It’s nice to see you,” You greet the party host.
“Why are you guys just here?” Eric quickly grabs a bottle of beer. “You don’t want to dance or play some party games?”
“We’ll probably join the crowd in a little bit,” Kevin says as he wraps his arm around Eric’s shoulder. “Also, coming in your baseball uniform? You’re so generic.”
“Hey! It was the only thing I had since I was busy organizing this party,” Eric attempts to defend himself.
Jacob chuckles and says, “Well, it’s a nice party.”
“Thank you!”
“Have you seen Sunwoo and Chanhee?” Changmin decides to ask the host.
“Oh, yeah! I saw them just a few minutes ago.” Eric chuckles. “Sunwoo’s busy trying to rizz up someone from the swimming team.”
Your face scrunches up in disgust as you lean your head on Changmin’s shoulder. “What about Chanhee?”
“I think he’s just with Hyunjae hyung.”
“Ah, I see,” you say with a smirk as your best friend and Kevin giggle.
It takes a few seconds before the dots connect in Jacob’s head. “Is something going on between Chanhee and Hyunjae?” He asks with a gasp.
“Yeah! Haven’t you noticed that Hyunjae hyung is always with him?”
Jacob ponders over his best friend’s question for a moment. “Huh, that makes sense.”
“They’re actually so cute, but I actually don’t think anything is going to happen,” Eric says after he takes a sip of his beer.
Changmin hums and agrees, “Based on what I talked about with Chanhee, it looks like they’re just friends.”
“You don’t think it’ll turn into something more?” Kevin asks with a pout on his lips.
“It would get messy, don’t you think? Since your friend groups are slowly getting close.”
You sigh and answer Eric’s question with, “Honestly, whatever makes the two happy. I think they’ll manage to figure it out.”
“Feelings are weird.” Once Changmin says those words, you could only hum in agreement. You felt like you did not know enough to comment on whatever Chanhee and Hyunjae have going on. All that mattered to you is that your friends were happy and safe at all times.
“Hey, Changmin hyung!” Someone you could only recognize to be Lee Chan, Changmin’s teammate in the dance team, enters the kitchen with a cup in his hands. “Oh, hi Eric! Well, I just wanted to call my lovely friend to play some beer pong with us. You guys are free to join us!”
“Oh, I’ll join!” Eric quickly says before he makes his way out of the kitchen.
As you lift your head from Changmin’s shoulder, your best friend frowns at Chan. “Wait, I can’t drink that much. I’m taking care of Y/N and like… the others.”
You shake your head and nudge him. “It’s fine,” you reassure him.
He shakes his head firmly and says, “We have a buddy system, remember? Plus, I don’t want to ditch you.”
“Then they can join us!” Chan attempts to convince him further. “If it helps, we’re playing with people outside of the dance team.”
“No, it’s fine. I’ll probably just hang with those from the publication.” You smile at Chan and take a look at Changmin. “What if I just meet you two hours from now? We can meet here.” Changmin bites the inside of his cheek as he contemplates.
“Uhm, we’ll also stay with Y/N,” Jacob chimes in. As your head whips in his direction, you could see his signature smile. You would think that working with him for a few weeks would give you time to get used to his smile. And yet, you still found yourself melting at the view.
“Yeah!” You look back at your best friend. “I promise that I won’t drink too much without you.” It takes a moment before Changmin decides to give in to Chan’s request. Before he could stand up from his seat, you reach out for his doll. “Let me take care of our child.”
He cannot help but smile before he hands his Chucky doll to you. “I won’t forget you calling him that.” With that, he followed Chan out of the kitchen.
You sigh and hold the Chucky doll close to you, combing through its hair. “Do you know where News and Social Media are staying? Maybe we can stay with Seungkwan and Yeji?”
“I spotted them by the pool area. It’s actually in the same area Changmin is playing beer pong,” Kevin says, which has you standing up from your seat.
“Why don’t you guys go ahead? I’ll just meet you there,” you say as your eyes looked through the drinks.
And there comes Jacob with his sweet smile. “I’ll wait for you. Kevin, we can just meet you there.”
For a moment, you could notice Kevin snickering but he quickly covers it up by saying, “Sure.” As soon as he makes his way out of the kitchen, you give your crush a shy smile.
“Do you mind mixing me another drink?”
Jacob chuckles as he grabs the cup from you. “It’s fine, I don’t mind if it’s you.”
You do not know what to make of his comment, slightly blushing as he creates another great concoction. You decided to stand beside him and lean against the counter so that you could get a good look at whatever he was making you. In the cup, he poured two different liquors and cranberry juice.
“Can I… ask something?” He decides to ask you as he hands you back your cup.
You raise your eyebrows before you take a sip of the drink. “Oh, it’s good!” He smiles at your comment. “Yeah, of course! Ask whatever.”
Jacob takes a moment to think over his words. “I don’t really know how to ask it.”
You laugh and say, “Jacob, aren’t you a writer?”
“Yeah! But sometimes, words are weird.”
“Just say it to me straight. I think it would make it easier for us both,” you reassure him before you drink.
“Are you and Changmin dating?” As soon as those words leave his mouth, you choke on your drink.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” He quickly grabs some tissue and wipes your chin as you cough.
As you grab the tissue from his hand, you set down your cup on the counter. “S-sorry! I didn’t expect that.”
“That’s why I said I didn’t know how to phrase it right.” He pouts as you wave your hand at him to signal that it was alright.
“No, your question is fine!” You cough out before taking a deep breath. “Why would you think that?”
Jacob scratches the back of his neck and says, “I just thought so based on tonight’s event. I suspected something was going on between you two that one night I gave you guys a ride home. I was just thinking that tonight might have confirmed my suspicion.” You tilt your head over his words.
All throughout your friendship with Changmin, no one has ever thought of you two in a relationship. In every interaction and time spent with him, you have always thought it was normal. Sure, you do acknowledge that you spend more time with him than you do with Sunwoo and Chanhee, but it never meant that you two were together.
“We aren’t,” you start off with a smile. “We’re just very close, that’s all. I am very much single.”
Jacob nods with a relieved smile on his face. “Alright, that’s good to know.”
Before you could process his words, he spoke. “C’mon, let’s meet with the others.”
Tumblr media
Over the hours, you have been half-focused on the conversation going on between your friends from the publication. Your mind was still trying to wrap around the fact that Jacob would think that way—you cannot even believe he seemed relieved to hear you are single.
While most of your group sat in a circle on foldable chairs, some had to stay standing up. Despite being deep in thought, you were somewhat hyperaware every time Jacob was looking at you from where he stood. Never did you ever expect the 5th-year student to show some interest towards you.
That is why you never noticed someone grab your shoulder. You jump in your seat and take a look behind you to see Changmin with a concerned look on his face. “Hey, are you okay?” He whispers only for you to hear.
You nod and quickly get off your seat. “Hi, I’ll come back.” As soon as you bid farewell to the group, you grab Changmin’s arm and make your way to somewhere far from Jacob.
Once you two arrive at a relatively quiet corner of the backyard, you take a seat down by the porch. With a worried expression on his face, he takes a seat beside you and grabs the doll from you.
“What’s up?”
You place your hands on the bottom half of your face and take a deep breath. “You would not believe what Jacob said to me.”
“You’re scaring me,” he says, which only makes you laugh as you shake your head.
“No, it’s just funny! But also, so many thoughts are being thunk right now.”
“Okay, what?” He asks with furrowed eyebrows. Clearly, the suspense was starting to kill him.
You bite the inside of your cheek. “He just asked if I was single!” The way Changmin’s eyebrows shoot up is a sight you could only laugh at.
“Are you serious?” He asks, shocked by your news.
“I know!” You squeal as you smack his arm. “Well, he did ask if you and I were dating–”
“He asked WHAT?!” Your best friend shouts which attracts some looks.
You smack his arm and give an apologetic smile to those who looked over at you two. Once you look back at him, you could see the expression on his face—something you could describe as shock and disgust mixed together. With the way his eyebrows are furrowed as he moves slightly away, you could tell he was taken aback by what you revealed.
“Oh, yeah! It was so weird.” You shake your head before you take a peek at where your friends were (thankfully, Jacob was preoccupied with whatever conversation was going on). You look back at Changmin and say, “I remember even choking on my drink just because he asked. But anyway, that’s beside the point–”
“Why would he think that?”
You roll your eyes as your best friend continues to cut you off. “Honestly, I don’t really know. I mean, he explained but it didn’t make sense.” He looks you up and down with a frown on his face.
“Hey! It can’t be that bad to date me!” You exclaim as you smack his arm once more.
“I’m just thinking that it would be weird for us to date!”
You roll your eyes and say, “Obviously. It’s even weirder to think I had a crush on Sunwoo then.” Before Changmin could say more, you say, “Jacob just thought so with how close we are, but I made it perfectly clear that I am single. And here’s the kicker.”
Your best friend only signals you to continue with what you are saying. “He said he was glad to know that,” you finally say as you smack his arm, earning a groan from him.
“Can you stop smacking me?”
You ignore his request as you remember the events. “I’ve never had a crush actually show some type of interest towards me. It’s so surreal.” You let yourself lean back on your hands so that you could look up at the sky.
With your eyes looking up to the starry night, you smile as you let out a happy sigh. Despite being in your second year of college, you never really had that much experience with romance aside from occasional one-sided crushes (whether with you as the apple of someone’s eye or the idea of someone plaguing your mind). That is why when Jacob shares such words, you cannot help but feel so much warmth spread throughout your body.
“I’m glad, though.” You look at your best friend who has a small smile on his face. “I’m glad that what you have is going somewhere,” he says which only makes you grin.
It is during these moments that you remember how long you and Changmin have been friends. From achievements to heartbreaks, you both have been there for each other to witness it all. In the greatest and lowest moments, the two of you always found solace in each other.
Tumblr media
Changmin looked at himself in the mirror—all dressed up in black (from blazer to trousers) with a pair of sunglasses and chains to accessorize his whole look. He took a deep breath as he spun around.
The day of the competition has finally come. The team spent many weeks practicing the same routine in hopes to secure that trophy. After all the late nights and injuries he had to endure, he could not believe that he was to participate in his final competition.
Since he figured out to walk all on his own, dance came to him naturally like breathing comes instinctively for all. His love for dance has only grown with him throughout the years. For Changmin, there was never a possible reality where he does not fall in love with dance. Yet, with graduation dawning, it seemed like he would have to entertain that idea whether he liked it or not.
With him being deep in thought, he does not hear you enter the room. “Woah!” He snaps out of his trance once you whistle while taking in his appearance. “You look good!”
He cannot hold his smile. “Thanks. I realized this is your first time seeing me in my outfit.” He makes his way back to his bed and takes a seat.
“Yeah! You never sent me the pictures,” you say with a pout. “But I’m kind of glad. I was shocked to see how nice you looked.”
“Are you saying I don’t look good all the time?”
You frown at your best friend. “Of course, you don’t, weirdo.” Changmin could only roll his eyes while you set your small sling bag beside him.
“Thank you for offering to do my makeup,” he says as you start to take out your small cosmetics bag full of essentials for his look.
“Don’t even worry about it. I mean, I have always wanted to do your makeup before.” You adjust the position of his floor lamp to make sure it was facing him. “Sunwoo cannot stay still when I put makeup on him.”
Changmin chuckles as he looks at you retrieve different tubes. “Thankfully, I have some extra concealer that should suit your skin tone,” you mutter as you squeeze out some product onto the back of your hand.
“Anyway, how are you?” You rest your right knee on the bed as your fingers start to do the work. “Are you still nervous?”
He hums for a moment. “I am, but I’m trying to focus on just leaving the competition on a good note.”
You nod as you cover up any dark spots and circles. “That’s good. How’s your thesis going so far?” As soon as you ask that, he groans.
“Don’t even remind me.”
You cannot help but giggle as you blend out the product. “Isn’t your thesis adviser Ms. Lee? I heard she’s good.” You look through your bag and reach out for your eyeshadow palette full of neutral colors and its proper brush.
“She’s great, really. It’s just that I may have underestimated the difficulty of my chosen topic.” He sighs as he watches you open up the palette. “I hope she knocked some sense into me.”
“Or, she just had faith in you,” you point out as you pick up some light brown eyeshadow with your brush. “You’re very smart, you know? I’m pretty sure she just wants you to get some recognition for your thesis.”
He only huffs as you carefully color his eyelids. Once you were done, you set the tools aside and grabbed an eyelash curler for him to use. As you hand the contraption to him, he frowns.
“Do you really trust me with that?”
“Yeah because I don’t know how to use it.”
“I think you’d be more scared if I was the one doing it on you,” you try to reason only for him to hand it back to you.
“Just do it.”
You groan and place the curler right on his eyelashes. “Don’t move, okay? I’m scared to rip your eyelashes out.”
“W-wait!” Changmin pushes your hand away with a frown on his face. “You can’t just say that. Now, I’m scared!”
You sigh as you rest your free hand on your hip and say, “Well, what do you want? I’m letting you do it.” He sighs for a moment before signaling you to continue. “Exactly.” You proceed with what you need to do.
“And… there!” You smile as you set the contraption aside. “That wasn’t too bad. Now, I need to do your mascara.”
You open the tube and take out the wand. “I need to sit down for this, okay?” As soon as you ask, he nods.
“Yeah, that’s no prob–wait!” He cuts himself off as you suddenly lift your other leg to rest on the bed as well.
Now, your knees were practically caging Changmin. As he takes a look down, he could see your legs pressing on the outer side of his thighs. For a moment, he cannot breathe.
This felt different. In this position, he felt his mind buzzing. Sure, he has always found himself linking arms with you or even snuggling up your side. But to see you straddling him only had him at your mercy.
Once you took a seat on his lap, he could feel himself getting dizzy. To feel your heat on his lap made him feel like he was back in high school—he could hear his heartbeat ring in his ears. There was barely any distance between you two as your face slowly got closer to his. Changmin could only hope you do not notice how red his ears are.
“Hey,” you whisper as you look into his eyes, taking a small peek down at his lips for a brief second. “Just relax, I don’t want to poke your eyes in the process.” He could feel your breath cast over his lips as you set your free hand on his shoulder.
First coat. His eyes were focused on your lips.
Second coat. You lick your lips as you focus on trying to not ruin your work.
Third coat. Changmin tries to swallow his anxiety down
Fourth coat. You let your eyes trail back down to his lips.
Fifth coat. He finds himself moving his face closer to yours, his eyes flickering down to your lips.
And something possesses him—his hands find themselves on your hips to hold you steady in place. Your breath hitches at the action, and you finally notice how close his face is to yours.
“Changmin,” you whisper his name so sweet. For him, it felt like he has never heard you say his name so gently.
“Say no and I won’t,” he finds himself saying as he lets himself finally look up into your eyes.
And before he could get a reply, he found his eyes opening to the white ceiling. Covered in sweat, he feels himself breathe heavily at his dream. There was no other way to say this—he was utterly fucked.

The door to my locker was slammed shut with a clamorous bang, causing me to squeal loudly and jump nearly two feet into the air. I clutched at my chest, trying to steady my breathing and preparing to hurl insults at whatever jackass had sent me into cardiac arrest when I was met with the sight of none other than Eddie Munson himself, beaming down at me with a mischievous grin.
“Eddie! What the-”
“I’m above average.”
A crease formed at the center of my forehead, my brows crinkling as I stared up at him in confusion. I had gotten to know Eddie pretty well over the past month that I had been tutoring him, but I was still struggling to learn his language. I often had to enlist one of the boys to help me translate his “Eddie-isms”.
“Huh?”
Eddie retrieved the crumpled piece of paper that was trapped between the door to my locker and his large hand, shoving it directly in front of my face. It took a minute to register that it was an extra credit quiz Mrs. O’Donnell had given him on Monday. She had agreed to give him extra credit assignments to help him pass as long as he kept up with our tutoring sessions. She really wanted him out of her classroom. I was almost certain that if Eddie was going to repeat his senior year a third time, she was going into early retirement.
I was drawn to the bold, red ink scrawled at the corner of the paper that read ‘C+’. My eyes shifted swiftly between a grinning Eddie and the indeed above average grade at the corner of the page.
“Oh my god..Eddie! You passed! All on your own!”
Here’s the thing most people did not understand about Eddie Munson: he was not stupid. He was in fact very smart. He simply wasn’t engaged in any of his classes. To be fair, none of them were exactly riveting, and neither were the teachers. If there’s anything I’ve learned from tutoring, it’s that a good teacher can make all the difference when it comes to comprehension.
Eddie's interest was not easily captured by less than thrilling subjects, and he had a hard time sitting still. Eddie was a creative person. He wrote incredible pieces of music and created elaborate campaigns for his club. He thrived the most when he was able to use his creative side on the task at hand, but when he really focused his attention and applied himself, Eddie could do anything.
He slapped his large hands against the metal of the locker doors, as if imitating a drum roll, and pumped his fists into the air triumphantly.
“Fuck yeah I did!”
Eddie’s strong arms suddenly wrapped around my waist, lifting me into the air and hugging me tightly against his strong chest as he twirled me around in a victory lap. I gripped onto the denim that covered his shoulders with a squeak, hanging on for dear life. My face flamed promptly from the closeness, and the judgemental stares of everyone around us. I could feel the warmth of his body against the thin material of my dress, feeling immensely grateful I had chosen to wear tights today. I was overcome with wonder of what his bare skin would feel like under my fingertips.
“Eddie! Put me down!”
“Not until you say I’m above average!”
My authoritative tone was lost throughout my fit of giggles. Eddie’s unruly curls seemed to twirl along with us as he continued to move our bodies together in a giant circle. As much as I didn’t want him to let go, I did want everyone to stop staring.
“Okay, okay! You’re above average!”
True to his word, Eddie quickly set me down on my feet, not bothering to take a step back. He leaned against my locker with a grin that stretched across his entire face, causing deep dimples to indent his smooth cheeks. I loved this smile. I loved his dimples. I loved the twinkle of happiness that was shining in his eyes. My chest constricted with complete adoration for the boy in front of me. In what seemed like the blink of an eye, I had gone from only knowing of Eddie Munson through whispers and rumors, to falling ridiculously, helplessly, and irrevocably hard for him. Like jumping out of a plane without a parachute and praying to whoever would listen there’s a soft landing, hard.
I wasn’t even sure how it had happened. That first day in the tutoring center, he sparked something within me, something I didn’t even know was there. A simple ember of a crush started to burn, and every minute I spent with him, the flames grew higher and higher and eventually exploded into a blaze that I didn’t even think God herself could put out.
I was completely enamored with Eddie Munson. I didn’t even know I could feel this way about a person. I like to think of myself as a realistic and reasonable person, but there were nights I contemplated if I really was under some kind of spell. Maybe Eddie really did know black magic. I’d had a somewhat “serious” boyfriend before, but it never felt like this. The logical part of my brain desperately tried to make sense of what was happening to my heart, and between my thighs.
Thoughts of him created a dull ache that I couldn’t will away. Everytime he spoke, my eyes fixated on his plump lips, craving the feeling of them against my own. On my skin. Anywhere he wanted them. I followed his hands as they danced in conversation, imagining how much better they would feel than my own. I’m not ashamed to admit that I had touched myself more than once to fantasies of Eddie Munson. The desire he created within me could not be ignored. It conjured sinful visions of him in my dreams, waking me out of a dead sleep covered in sweat, my body feeling as if it was on fire. I craved his touch, more than anything. I wanted to be twisted up in my bed sheets with more than just the ghost of him. I wanted the real thing.
“I’m so proud of you, Eddie.”
There was a light shade of pink that coated the tops of his cheeks, dipping his head for a moment before he met my gaze again with a tender smile on his lips.
“It’s all because of you, you know?”
“You did it all on your own, Eddie. You should be proud.”
“Well I have even more to be proud of, because I did the impossible.”
“Oh really? Do tell.”
“So, since I’ve been passing all my assignments and actually showing up to class and shit, I convinced Mrs. O’Donnell to let us cancel our session after school on Friday.”
“Oh. Um..well, that’s..” Awful. Horrible. Terrible. “That is an impressive feat. Um, that’s great Eddie. You uh, you deserve a break. You’ve been working really hard.”
“It’s actually a huge relief since I uh, gotta restock some..supplies.”
“For Hellfire?”
“Um..well..no. Not..exactly. It’s for my other..uh..extracurriculars.”
Eddie glanced anywhere but at me, awkwardly scratching at the back of his neck. The action caused the bottom of his Hellfire shirt to raise up just slightly, granting me a perfect view of the dark patch of hair just above the handcuff buckle of his belt. Focus.
“Oh. Oh.”
A deep hue of scarlet took over my features when it finally clicked what Eddie was talking about. He’s talking about drugs, you idiot. I internally cringed at how sheltered he must think I was. I honestly often forgot that Eddie was a drug dealer. It wasn’t that I didn’t know about it, he dealt to a ton of people at school. It just never came up in conversation between us.
“Well uh..good luck?”
Eddie snickered as he looked down at me, tilting his head in a playful manner and crossing his arms across his chest. His eyebrows knit together in the center of his forehead.
“Thank you?”
I scrunched up my nose as I smiled shyly, nibbling on my bottom lip. Good luck? Seriously? That’s the best you could come up with?
“I..sorry. I’m not really sure what the proper etiquette is when it comes to..um..that. ‘Break a leg’ seemed a bit..much?”
The smile on Eddie’s lips stretched into a grin that seemed to cover the entire lower half of his face, putting all of his teeth on display. My beloved dimples once appeared at the corners of his mouth. He shook his head slowly, clicking his tongue against his cheek.
“You are..incredibly adorable. You know that?”
My breath hitched in my throat and my knees suddenly felt like they were going to give out at any moment. I couldn’t stop myself from staring at his lips. Say something. Say something. Say something!
“I..um..uh..well I guess I’ll..s-see you Monday then.”
I tightened my grip on the strap of my backpack, prepared to turn and bolt away as fast as I could before I dropped dead from embarrassment. Eddie, sensing my apprehension, quickly reached out to grab onto my shoulder with a laugh as I was about to make my getaway.
“Hey, wait! Listen I um..I..I wanted to ask you something.”
“Oh..okay. What is it?”
Eddie retracted his hand from my shoulder, twisting one of his large rings around his middle finger slowly. I had come to learn this was a nervous habit of his. What was he nervous about? Eddie averted his gaze down to his worn sneakers. A frown settled on my lips as I gently placed my hand on his wrist to get his attention.
“Eddie? What’s wrong?”
“What? Nothing, no nothing’s wrong. I just..well..since you don’t have to tutor me after school on Friday, and my uh..restock..won’t take very long..I was just..I was gonna ask..well I was wondering if you know..maybe..um..I was wondering if you would maybe want to-”
“What the hell do you think you’re doing freak?”
Any indication that Eddie was nervous completely vanished the second Jason Carver shoved his way in between us. The tender smile on his lips sank into a deep frown, his eyes narrowing down at the blonde as he stood up straight. He made Jason look small when he stood to his full height. It was no secret that Eddie and Jason absolutely hated each other. Jason was convinced that Eddie was some evil, devil worshiping, cultist that was a danger to all of Hawkins. Eddie hated Jason mainly because he hated him, but also because he was a narcissistic bully to anyone who dared to be different.
I couldn’t see over Jason’s shoulders. I attempted to force myself in between the two boys before an all out brawl ensued, but Jason shoved me forcefully back behind him, which only seemed to piss Eddie off even further. As he took a step closer, I gripped onto Jason’s arm to yank him back.
“Jason, stop! I’m tutoring him, you know that.”
“Just because you’re tutoring this freak doesn’t mean he should be touching you.”
“What can I say, I’m a hands-on learner.”
I tried to shoot Eddie a pleading glance, but his attention was solely focused on the jock in front of him. God Eddie, please shut up. Please for once, don’t be a smartass and just shut up. I should’ve known better. Eddie practically created the term “stubborn”.
“I’m going to tell you this one time, and one time only. Leave her alone, freak. Don’t talk to her. Don’t come near her. Don’t even look at her. This, is done. Walk away. Next time, there won’t be a warning.”
The hardness on Eddie’s features dissipated slowly, and a wicked smile grew over his face, covering his lips like ivy. There was a vexatious glint in his eye that made me nervous. Eddie clasped his hands together behind his back and gave a light shrug of his shoulders.
“Okay.”
A sharp gasp escaped my lips. I wasn’t expecting that answer, and clearly Jason wasn’t either. I snuck at glance up at him to see surprise written just as clearly over his features as it was on mine. The other three jocks that had formed a circle around us all exchanged their own looks of disbelief.
“I’ll make you a deal, Carver. I’ll leave her alone..if..you can tell me her name.”
My eyes widened in shock at Eddie’s boldness and I was certain my jaw had hit the floor. Jason whipped his head down to stare at me incredulously, frantically searching my eyes as if they held the answer. For once, I was glad he didn’t know my name. I stared up at him innocently, as if I wasn’t in on the joke. His eyes darted over my face, my books, even my locker, looking for something, anything that would clue him in.
“Well? Go on. It’s a simple answer, really. I mean she’s only helped your dumbass what, seven times? Eight? Ten? Surely you know her name. You know, since you care so much. Surely you’re not the kind of asshole that uses people for your own personal gain without having the common decency to learn their fucking name.”
It all happened so fast. One second Jason was standing in front of me, the next he was lunging forward at Eddie with balled fists. Eddie managed to shove Jason roughly against the lockers before two of the jocks surged to pull him off. I didn’t know what to do. I was frozen in place with fear. Adrenaline coursed through my veins as I took a step forward. I wasn’t sure what I was planning to do, but I was instantly tugged back by one of the jocks that had pulled me hard into his chest with one arm.
“Let go of me! Let go! Help! Someone please, help! Stop them!”
I tried my hardest to free myself from the boy’s strong grasp. I looked around at the crowd of students that had gathered around to watch the spectacle that was taking place. I screamed at them, pleading with them for help. I could hear punches being thrown and lockers being slammed. I was terrified to see who was on the receiving end.
“Carver! Munson! What the hell is going on?”
The sea of students parted instantly to let Mr. Scott through. The group of boys didn’t hesitate to pull apart and untangle themselves to meet the man’s pissed off gaze. Fuck..Eddie’s going to be expelled..and it’s all my fault.
I finally managed to break free from the boy’s iron grip, angrily pushing my way through the crowd of students and took off down the hallway. I slammed the door to the tutoring center shut behind me and leaned forward to grip onto one of the chairs. Hot tears pricked at the corners of my eyes and I threaded my fingers through the roots of my hair, tugging roughly.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck! Eddie was going to be expelled, and that thought made my heart sink into the pit of my stomach. It was all my fault. All his hard work, down the drain. He wasn’t going to graduate. I should have never agreed to tutor him. I should have never said yes. He’s going to hate me. I ruined everything.
“Jesus, there you are! Are you alright? Did they hurt you?”
Eddie cupped my cheeks in his large hands, tilting my head up so that he could frantically search my face for any sign of injury. His eyes were dark and wild, his usual untamed curls even more unruly framed against his face. I could see a faint bruise appearing on his left cheekbone. The sight at first made me want to cry, but it only fueled the anger I felt. I braced my palms against his chest and shoved him back with as much force as I could manage.
“Why the hell would you do that?”
“What?”
“I can’t believe you! Why did you have to do that? I..how could you be so stupid Eddie?”
His face was a mixture of shock and hurt. He blinked a few times as he stared at me in bewilderment.
“Wait a second, are you seriously mad at me right now for what happened back there?”
“Of course I’m mad, Eddie! I’m furious! Why would you do that? Why?”
“What the fuck was I supposed to do? Just stand there and let him be a complete asshole?”
“You were supposed to walk away!”
“Fuck that! I wasn’t about to just stand there and let him treat you like shit. He fucking pushed you, I had to do something!”
“I didn’t ask you to do that! God Eddie, you’re not my boyfriend, I don’t need you to defend me like that!”
I regret the words the second they left my mouth. I hated the way they tasted. They were bitter like vinegar and made my stomach twist into knots. Silence lingered heavily in the air. Eddie’s chest rose and fell quickly to keep up with his accelerated breathing. Anger still rolled off of him in waves. There was hurt in his eyes, but his face was stone cold. I had never seen him like this before, and I hated it. But mostly, I hated that he was looking at me like this.
His beautiful features contorted into an expression of repulsion, and a dry, humorless laugh sounded from the back of his throat. The edge of his lips curled into a sneer as he took a step forward to stare down at me.
“Boyfriend? Are you fucking kidding me? I may be the freak of Hawkins, but I’m not that much of a freak that I would date the fucking tutor girl.”
Eddie’s venomous words rang loudly in my ears. I could feel my bottom lip beginning to quiver and in that moment I hated myself for looking so weak in front of him. As much as I willed myself not to cry in front of Eddie, I couldn’t stop the fresh wave of tears from washing over my cheeks. I took a step back from him, as if his words had physically slapped me, and clutched at my stomach.
Eddie clenched his jaw as he stared down at me, quickly looking away so that he didn’t have to see my face. He dragged his teeth over his bottom lip and shook his head quickly, beginning to back away towards the door.
“You know what, Y/L/N, I don’t think I need your services anymore. I can do this on my own. I don’t need you.”
Eddie slammed the door shut behind him, leaving me crumbling to the floor with a choked sob ripping through my chest. The pain was everywhere, all at once, and I didn’t know how to stop it. My body felt like it was made of lead, and I couldn’t move. I was stuck in the spot he broke me. I didn’t even care if anyone walked in and found me sprawled over the floor like a shattered piece of glass. How had things gone so unbelievably bad, so fast?
For the first time ever, I went home early. And I didn’t go back to school the day after that. Or the day after that.

𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 I hope you know the title of this document is “fuck you *sends you to the shadow realm*”
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 Because oh BOY these guys HATE each other so much!!!!!
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 I imagine they’re around the same age, and before Sylvie jumped to college level they were in the same grade.
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 The rivalry starts young.
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 They were the two biggest Pilot Command nerds in the class.  It would be one fateful day in the springtime where they would be out on lunch break, and play together.
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 The battle…  It raged for long over the hour.  It was impossible to tear the boys away from the game, and dang did Miss Fuckwhistle try!
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 It would be that day that a great rivalry was formed!!!! …And then interrupted by Sylvie going to college and their schedules never aligning once Sylvie decided the rivalry was far too childish.  Delta called him a coward for that.
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 Cough.
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 Flash forward – DeathCon.  These two encounter one another again and it’s like time stops.  Dread fills Sylvie’s stomach and a cockiness would enter Delta’s mind as he daydreams about crushing the dude at the game that brought them together in the first place.
Sylvester glares at the boy across the hall from them.  Beside him, Rick Shades would also glare, before leaning down to whisper, “why don’t we like him?” “Oh, we go way back,” Sylvie answers, his glasses shining over to hide his expression, his voice grave.  “Way… way back.” “...That does not answer my question at all!”
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 The entirety of DeathCon consists of Delta taunting Sylvester – the psychologist almost bursting a blood vessel for the entire occasion.  He… He just keeps winning!  Every time!  What the Hell!!!  Sylvie is so easily angered by Delta’s cocky attitude.
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 Once Delta’s epithet is exposed, Sylvie goes absolutely INSANE.
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 He KNEW it. He KNEW there was a reason he never bested Delta before.  He’s using his Epithet – it’s all just… CHEATING!!!
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 Cue maniacal cackles and concerned staring from the party.
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 He probably even tries to move from his spot to stumble up to Delta and point and laugh in his face.  I don’t doubt the insanity of our little sheep boy.
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 From then on, Sylvester is the worst of the pair.  He’s constantly probing and being a little shithead to Delta who just wants to play some cards bro.
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 Fine.  Fine!  If this is the attitude Sylvie wants to take, then Delta challenges Sylvester to one last game of Pilot Command – one on one, no holding back.
The mini arena that is just a patch of field in the middle of a park could make a war torn soldier shiver from fear.  The two teenagers would stare at one another from a proportionally long ways away from one another.  The wind dramatically rolls through their hair. It’s so on.
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 The battle was intense, definitely illegal, hearts were put in cards.
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 It ends with Delta and Sylvie on the ground, roughed up and staring at the sky above them.  Sylvie begins to think about who won– he could barely remember what the super cool final combo attack was, it was so…
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 And then Delta begins to laugh.
Sylvie looks over at the teenager, laughing like he never saw him laugh before.  It isn’t his self-confident chuckle or anything like that.  It’s an actual laugh, out into the air. He couldn’t help but laugh along. “Dude,” Delta wheezes between breaths, “that was the most intense Pilot Command battle I’ve ever experienced!  You improved!” Sylvie scoffed.  “Aw well…  You seem really dedicated to it…  Maybe I misjudged.  I… really respect you as a Pilot Command player.” Delta’s eyes widened a little.  “What?  Y’serious?” A smile couldn’t help but make its way to Sylvie’s lips.  “Yeah.  I’m serious.”
𓆩ꨄ︎𓆪 The cathartic release is what the boys really needed.  Their rivalry is much more friendly from then on.  No battle would ever be as intense, but one should fear any team that includes these two shithead teenage boys.

for those of you who were asking about the scourge playlist when i was talking about his voice, here it is
7/25 songs are from natewantstobattle so it's no wonder i inadvertently picked his performance as damien to be the voice claim
i really need to redo that text on the playlist cover...
explanation under the cut i guess?
1: now's your chance honestly not sure about this one? i think the vibe i was going for was that, when he met sonic for the first time, something sort of clicked in him, or... snapped, rather. it's a realization of some sort. realization of what? i dunno. that's above my pay grade.
2-7: don't threaten me with a good time emperor's new clothes pit of vipers phantom branded mean green mother from outer space this section's more so just about his descent into being a complete and utter shithead. these songs are mostly about vibes and he thinks he's the coolest motherfucker alive. he's still on the upswing, but that isn't necessarily a good thing
8-9: brand new day it's tough to be a god this is probably his highest point? his whole king of the world shtick is at its strongest here. he's kicking ass and taking names and thinks he's invincible. little does he know that he absolutely is not that
10-12: this is love sarcasm war! you know how he's been betrayed by not one but two of the gangs he brought together, pissing them off to the point they tried to kill him? yeah. this is that resentment. it's probably targeted mostly at romantic partners like fiona and alicia, but still. mad
13: big shot this is mostly a transition song. the frantic nature of it feels like it makes it clear that things are falling apart around him, and stuff's gonna get bad real quick despite him hyping himself up as some kind of larger than life, unstoppable villain. he's bitten off more than he can chew and it's about to give him a rude awakening
14: discord another segment with just one song - i forget if i've dumped this plot point on this blog before, but i want it to be a surprise. long story short, he's lost, can't go home, everything that was familiar to him is now gone, and he's had this sort of revelation that bigger things are happening. he's just along for the ride
15: other friends during his desperate jumps between universes, i imagine he ran into another sonic at some point by sheer coincidence. all that stress he's built up during this is coming out right now. he feels abandoned and scared and all he knows how to do is hurt people, so he fights this random sonic for no reason and probably gets his ass kicked despite his vicious facade
16-18: ruler of everything drift away god syndrome not quite a descent into madness, but it's close enough. he's been alone with his thoughts with nothing to pour his frustration into. he's realizing just how small he is and how far he's fallen, wishing he just stayed home and faced the same whatever his "friends" fell victim to, but it's too late. not only is his survival instinct too strong, he's simply too stubborn to quit. he's made it this far
19: the guide to success sort of an inner monologue? this one's another vibes one. i sort of imagined him talking to his younger self during this. it's sort of a was it worth it? thing. he feels regret. he knows what he's done is wrong, but he refuses to admit it, retreating into the shell he's built up over the years
20: freeze your brain over the course of his adventures, i imagine he finds himself in yet another universe. the cinematic i had in my head was that he runs into an amy who, seeing a stranger who looks vaguely like sonic and is clearly distressed, asks him if he's okay. cue the sad boy trauma dumping. the 7/11 employee in the background is not very happy (and scourge probably keeps refilling his cup without paying for it)
21: look who's inside again more self criticism. wondering where he went wrong. reminiscing about his childhood, wondering who he really is. all that jazz
22: bury a friend this is where he meets manic. he doesn't understand his kindness. he's low-key paranoid that he's gonna be stabbed in the back again, but the time never comes. despite his abrasiveness, his tough guy persona, his general standoffishness, his disregard for this random dude who let him in his house, offering nothing in return, manic continues to tolerate him, just being kind. this is something scourge can't wrap his head around and it's filling him with this frustration and guilt he wants to take out on him, but he just can't bring himself to. he's grown soft, whether he likes it or not, and it makes him feel weak
23: the wrecked and the worried scourge has tried to leave before. multiple times. he just can't bring himself to go, and every time he disappears, it's for longer and longer periods because he feels so conflicted about it. manic shows genuine concern for him. hanging out with this guy is the safest scourge has felt in a long time, and he isn't sure how to deal with that. there's a certain guilt to it, feeling like him existing there is putting manic in danger because of the zone cops on his tail, but he just can't leave
24-25: creep i'd rather be me with you (caleb hyles) scourge feels like a piece of shit who doesn't deserve to be cared about by someone else, but manic continues to treat him with that unwavering kindness and understanding he always did. scourge sees him as a friend now, but is afraid of getting hurt again, and is low-key afraid of hurting manic. he's afraid he'll blow up in his face or cause some shit that ends up reverberating back to this fucking nerd. that he'll inadvertently do something so bad, it makes manic lose his patience and finally cut him off. it's his nature to be a terrible person, right...?
he doesn't understand how he could be cared about so much by someone, or how he could care about someone else in the same way. it's hard to love and be loved, even platonically, when you haven't been loved before
if he could break down his cracking walls... if he could be his true self, maybe he wouldn't feel like such a burden
if he could be his true self, maybe he'd learn how to love and be loved in a genuine, authentic way, just like manic does

Ok so fun gossip I heard
- 2 of the hockey boys had been secretly (nothing is actually a secret to me) dating for like 2 years but one is a science god who weightlifts competitively and plays 2/3 other sports very well and the other dropped out to smoke weed so they don't talk anymore and that is almost definitely the stoners fault and the nice really smart one is now stuck with a bunch of assholes because that was his only friend and he doesn't know that the queer femmes would adopt him to carry our bags
- there's a really popular girl who reads like Harry potter and colleen hoover (this is irrelevant I just like slander) exclusively who wants to be a radical politician but has never read any theory and don't follow politics
- the self appointed queen bee who cheated on her decent blonde bf by hooking up with her ex bffs abusive ex and then she left him for blondie and now has an on and off throuple with blondie and his besties, both of them are proclaimed straight and all of the are friends with shithead
- same queen bee and blondie, she posted on her til tok her rice purity score and it said that she had never come during sex, they were together for like 5 years and she has caught him watching porn while they fuck

- all of the boys bathrooms are missing the soap dispenser and the mirrors, sinks and toilet seats are regularly stolen also once a custodian quit after having just walked into the main one
- we had a 3 hour secure school because a girl punched the librarian and the librarian passed out and then the girl hid somewhere in the school
- at a beach party during the summer my favourite random school person (you know what I mean, right?) was super drunk and shot a firework at the police, put his Crocs in sport mode and then ran away, successfully as well
- same dude had a job at an arcade and would break in during the night to just vibe with the lasers and run around drinking and smoking I guess, he also once hid from the cops in a tree, he postef all of this on his snap
I can't think of other big ones but this should do for now

Baseball Babe: Ch. 1
Pairings: Bruce Yamada x fem!oc, Robin Arellano x platonic!fem!oc
Warnings: cursing
Word count: 1146
Summary: While Bruce is used to the girls practically falling at his feet, he is challenged when one is not. At the ripe age of 13, Bruce Yamada, for the first time, is confused. Why isn’t she in love with him? Why wasn’t she kissing the ground he walked on? Bruce, for once, finds himself taking interest in someone. Someone, who also happens to play his favorite sport.
a/n: Guys this started as a joke so don’t take this too seriously :D. Just some self-indulgence here. Idk when chapter 2 is coming out so yup. May or may not include the grabber events, just depends. If it does then it’ll likely be pushed back to between the years of 1980-1981 idk. Also I might tweak some of the ages/years/grades for my own comfortability.
Ch.2 !! Ch.3 !! Ch.4 !! Ch.5 !!
September 8, 1978.
About three weeks into school.
Jamie stepped through the school doors, the bell ringing quickly after. With rush, she hurriedly skid down the hall till she heard the commotion. Several shouts of ‘fight!’, chants that cheer on and encourage the behavior down the hall. In fact, the noise was bellowing off the once empty hallways traveling through classrooms, she wondered why there were no staff stopping whatever was happening.
She steps through the jumping crowd for further inspection, and to get to her damn class, when her eyes are drawn to her idiot fight-loving friend. Robin Arellano is kneeling on the ground slamming fist after fist into some poor, or not so poor, kid’s face. Fucking hell Robin.
Jumping into the action, she grasps and grips at his collar, yanking and clearly startling the boy. “Get up shithead”, she says firmly through gritted teeth, before pulling him off and away from the bleeding classmate.
Dragging him off into an emptier hall, she finally got a good look at him. That’s when she realized he walked off without a scratch, well nothing worse than the typical bruised knuckles. The surprise in his eyes couldn’t be covered by the guilt he felt, not feeling it because he actually felt bad, but because she’d caught him.
He thought she was out of town.
“I thought you weren’t coming back till tonight”, he murmured awkwardly, a poor attempt at filling the short silence.
“Baseball tryouts start today, I didn’t want to lower my already slim chances of getting on the team”, Jamie chuckles. Despite the joke, there was a truthfulness to her words.
She’d just moved back into the area, they just needed to get the last of their things before being officially moved in. Robin and her grew up together until the end of 4th grade, when she moved to Westminster. Over the course of her two years there, Jamie took great interest in baseball, learning and working hard hoping to be one of the first girls on a team. Of course it never happened, because lord knows no coach was willing to risk their team and reputation like that. Despite moving, she had kept in contact with Robin, always being up to date with each other. In June, she’d gotten the news they’d be moving back into Denver, and she’d be attending school with Robin again. From July to August and a bit of September, she had spent the time moving, back and forth between the cities in order to ensure all her belongings would be moving with her. That’s when she’d seen it. A flyer for a travel baseball team. The Front Rangers. That’s how she ended up where she is now. At school, going through 7th grade with Robin, hoping, praying, practically manifesting she’d be good enough to make the team. In reality, Jamie knew she had to be better than good to be on that team. She knew she had to be better than everyone else trying out and everyone apart of the existing team.
With a silent nod he decides to lead them to class rather than continue standing there. The dragging of feet and occasional chatter from stragglers in the halls were the only things the two heard as they continued to walk to class. Opening the door to history, they scanned the room, seeing many students were already in attendance. They took their seats, however not before Jamie made eye contact with a boy sitting towards the back. brushing it off she hurriedly sat down, taking out her notebook and a pen before the teacher began to take attendance.
Bruce had sat down as the bell rang. This left him waiting about all of the 10 minutes to watch his classmates file into the classroom, boyfriends and girlfriends dropping the other off into the classroom. Everyone had finally settled into their seats by the time he decided to get his history notebook out. That’s when he heard scurrying feet and the squeak of the old wooden door.
They really need to get that fixed. Or at least oiled.
In walked Robin, right behind him, a girl. Bruce couldn’t recognize her, couldn’t put a name to her face. He concluded that he hadn’t gone to school with her before, or at least didn’t notice he did.
Right then he made eye-contact with her, briefly. But the point-two seconds of staring into her eyes was enough to send his heart into oblivion. She’s pretty. Shit, she’s really pretty. Scratch that, no, she's beautiful.
He watched as she and Robin walked to their separate seats. Her, just four desks ahead of him, Robin to his right.
Maybe that’s why he’d never noticed her. Maybe he was too busy with himself when walking by her desk. Maybe he took a different route out of the classroom sometimes. Despite the possibilities, how could he not notice her? Her style didn’t match the girls that pushed themselves towards him. She wore medium-length blue Levi’s shorts, with Reebok sneakers and a ‘The Temptations’ shirt, hitting about an inch above her shorts, revealing a bit of her torso. His favorite band! In comparison to the other frilly and pastel dresses and shirts girls typically wore. She was tall, at least taller than all the other girls he had swooning over him. About 5’4, making her an inch taller than Robin and an inch shorter than Bruce. Her wavy brown hair flowing behind her, bangs shaped like curtains flopping against her forehead as she frustratingly ran her hand through them. Her eyes, oh her eyes. They were the perfect medium brown with specks of gold and green, and if he could stare into them all day he would. 25/8. He couldn’t stop looking at her. He probably looked like a lovesick puppy, or a stalker, but he didn’t care. He couldn’t stop thinking about how she walked in, after Robin. Oh shit Robin-
“Look Bruce, I get it she’s pretty. Now personally I don’t have a thing for her,” Robin whispers, placing his hands on his own chest. “but I am her friend. And from me to you, stop gawking for two fucking seconds would ya?”
Bruce nods, albeit a bit surprised he’d been caught, by her best friend of all people. He however, straightens a bit before roll is called, refocusing himself. Name after name is called before he hears one in particular.
“Jamie Monroe.”
“Present.” Jamie replies, raising her hand.
Jamie. Jamie Monroe. What a cool fucking name. She’s gorgeous AND has a cool name. Bruce was in for it, he knew that. And her voice? It was deeper than all the high pitched squeaky, sickeningly sweet ones he was used to hearing. Jamie’s was deep and silky. God, he could listen to it all day.
“Bruce Yamada? Is Bruce Yamada here?”
Shit. He was screwed.

i apologize in advance for the influx of asks you are about to receive, but i have thoughts, anyways you mentioned that clone elementary/middle exist in your au, do you have any facts about how the schools were run or how the clones/wesley were at those ages ?
NOOO DO NOT AP OLOGIZE it means so much youre invested in my silly ch au. the au means the world to me and is the only thing i think abt and ive been developing it for almost 3 years!!!
i personally think clone elementary and middle school were just. run the exact same. the same teachers, same building, everything. theres only one age group of clones so there really isnt like....more than one class. i think they just modify the signage and stuff but that's about it. otherwise its the Same.
i think in elementary school they played the worlds most insane pretend games. i also think that like, the main g2 clone group specifically (harriet, frida, confucius, topher, wesley. sometimes other clones joined.) had like a lot of really specific games, and also had the worlds funniest soap opera plotlines with their dolls. like setting up elaborate death scenes and funeralds when a barbie was killed off elaborate.
wesley absolutely had an issue with Biting at elementary school age (it stopped around 3rd grade) and liked to chew on things. or people.
in general in elementary i think they were all just friends and liked to play funny games. i think this was also the objectivly easiest age to deal w them all as well.
the g1 elementary was mostly the same, though at the time people were Sadly more strict w gender shit so like. boys couldnt join in on the barbie soap operas sadly.
i also think elementary school age was literally the only age that any of the clones thought scudworth was Cool and Fun. but they always liked mr b and wulfington and still do.
since all the clones were Technically born the same day, they celebrate their birthdays on their cloneparents birthday! i think the faculty at clone elementary tried to always make the bdays special for the clones. i also think this was sheepman's favorite age to deal w the clones bcuz it was just. objectively easier and also they were very cute
middle school in contrast was uh. the worst. its always the worst for every ever. everyone in middle school is mean as hell and arguments start and school starts getting harder. i think a lot of the clones started acting out more, both g1 and g2(thought w the g2 clones, cyberbullying is a huge issue). i think in general this time period was so hard for the clones bcuz its when they were pushed more into being like their cloneparents and most of them just...weren't.
this is also when specific clones started being shitheads more. aka topher discovered reddit around this time and everything went downhill from there for him(his own fault). and is when he made everyone start hating him bcuz he was just. so convinced he was smart as hell for these opinions he read on reddit.
i think specific bonds were solidified and like, enemy relationships as well. like, the main clone group (frida, confucius, harriet, wesley) became besties for Life at this time. but this is also around the time wesley became a menace emotionally- like to be fair she is autistic and didnt really Get what she was doing wasnt funny, and thankfully when she went Too far, Harriet would be like "Take a breath bestie, that's a bit too far." Harriet and Wesley specifically are besties! This is also around the time Wesley started getting crushes on literally all her friends. you know, middle school things
i think clone middle school was the worst time, ever, for the faculty. like...have you ever tried to control or discipline a middle schooler? it doesnt work. they crave chaos. i think another huge issue is that this was when the clones Discovered homophobia and transphobia from the internet + Learned Slurs(middle schoolers love those. sadly.) and this is like. the only time they've EVER seen wulfington super mad. he + mr b + scuds had to sit them down and be like "yeah so, we're not doing this. it shouldnt have been acceptable with the first set of clones, and it DEFINATLY isnt now. Fucking stop it." and they went out of their way to make any of the students discovering they are lgbt+ feel safe and welcome- and like. even if middle schoolers are hell to deal w, they still liked and respected mr b and wulfington and having them feel dissapointed in them sucked, + the bullying policy regarding bigotry was extremely strict. so i think most of the kids stopped that shit quick, thankfully, and shut each other down when they heard it. this is why topher has no friends you see.
please note that a lot of the middle school stuff is. directly based on how middle school was for me. so if i seem like im being mean....no i promise thats just how middle school is. everyone is scared + conmfused + everything is getting harder + theyre noticing media pressure.

SMART BOMB
The Completely Unnecessary News Analysis
By Christopher Smart
April 25, 2023
MICKEY MOUSE, YOU WOKE RAT!
Utahns awakened (don't say woke) Sunday to find that Mickey Mouse and Disney are evil — in case they didn't already recognize that Mickey is a Woke Rat! That's right, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was in Salt Lake City to help the Utah Republican Party get its blood up for the crusade against all things woke. Topping his list of infidels is Disney, you know, the guys who made Snow White, Toy Story and Little Mermaid. As you'll recall, DeSantis birthed the “Don't Say Gay” legislation that prohibits classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity. Over at Disney World, Mickey, Goofy, Donald Duck and the gang rebelled and the inquisition was on. DeSantis, who is unofficially running for president, told the faithful reactionaries they are under attack and that he will fight tirelessly against evil wokeness. “We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.” You're right, Wilson, it does sound a bit like Churchill but great minds think alike, especially if one is a revered statesmen and the other is preaching to an ultraconservative GOP convention that has an appetite for dead, burnt bodies. The Rapture was at hand.
BOYCOTT TRANS BEER
When Kid Rock pulls a gun and drills a case of Bud Light you know it's trouble, trouble with a capital “T” and that stands for trans. If you've been drunk on corporate beer for the past month here's what's up: Bud Light put the likeness of actress and trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney on Bud Light cans as an Instagram promotion during March Madness — and boy, did the suds hit the fan. Beer brand identification is central to the male ego, especially in TrumpWorld: Damn it, if Bud Light has a trans woman on its cans, us real men can't drink it no more — people might think we was trans ourselves. Call it a snafu — putting a trans person on one of the most redneck of beers. On second thought, call it a gigantic F-up. The boycott was on and sales fell off a cliff as some retailers stopped carrying the brand in an effort to reduce violence. The brewer, Anheuser-Busch, quickly retreated: “We never intended to divide people,” said CEO Brendan Whitworth. Bud Light marketing director Alissa Heinerscheid disappeared off the coast of Argentina, never to be seen again. Rumors are swirling that a new marketing director will try to save the brand by recasting it as “No Trans Light” or “Real Redneck Light.” But the question remains: Why would anyone drink Bud Light in the first place — guess you'd have to be a redneck.
WHY REPUBLICANS DO WHAT THEY DO
The staff here at Smart Bomb took a deep dive into all things GOP in an effort to explain how the “Party of Lincoln” became the “Party of Trump.”
– Republicans do what they do because their mothers used Johnson & Johnson baby powder now revealed to contain asbestos.
– Republicans do what they do because as children they didn't get what they wanted for Christmas and instead got weird Rube Goldberg toys that infuriated them.
– They do what they do because as youngsters they rejoiced in pulling the legs off grasshoppers and liked practicing medical experiments on tadpoles.
– Republicans do what they do because in 7th grade a bully took their lunch money and called them “dipshits” and made them cry.
– They do what they do because in middle school they were peeping toms and told everyone that Suzy Cream Cheese had big ones and then had to apologize to Suzy in front of everyone in home room.
– Republicans do what they do because in college they knocked up Suzy Cream Cheese and blamed the entire fraternity house.
– Republicans are who they are because they cheated on the L-SATS and then had daddy land them a job at a big law firm where everyone soon found out they were total shitheads, which qualified them for membership at the country club.
Post script — Not in my backyard. Apartment buildings are springing up like mushrooms along the Wasatch Front. Traffic is horrible. So is the air. Utah's business and political leaders love it. Well, the staff here at Smart Bomb isn't exactly thrilled. The cool place is losing its coolness, overrun by cars and people. It's what's called NIMBYISM — Not in my backyard. People put NIMBYS down but Wilson and the band aren't afraid to be called NIMBYS. Here's why:
—You know you're a NIMBY if you get lost in your own town when sober.
—You know you're a NIMBY if you swear at cars with out-of-state plates.
—You know you're a NIMBY if you get mad when there's no parking anywhere.
—You know you're a NIMBY if someone says Kimball Junction is Park City.
—You know you're a NIMBY if you hate tourists with skis.
—You know you're a NIMBY if you hate tourists — period.
Alright Wilson, it's been another historic week here on Planet Earth where there was actually some good news: TUCKER CARLSON GOT FIRED FROM FOX! What's next, Donald Trump convicted of Georgia election law violations? Quick, get the band and give us some marching music for DeSantis' crusaders in their fight against Disney and all things woke:
Your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you She tied you to a kitchen chair She broke your throne, and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah You say I took the name in vain I don't even know the name But if I did—well, really—what's it to you? There's a blaze of light in every word It doesn't matter which you heard The holy or the broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah I did my best, it wasn't much I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you And even though it all went wrong I'll stand before the Lord of Song With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah
(Hallelujah — Leonard Cohen)

A Waitress’ Worst Nightmare
Tumblr media
A/N: Written for the BNHA Degeneracy 9-5 collab! THIS IS 18+ MINORS DNI
Warnings: TW.sexual harassment, TW.oral(recieving), TW.degredation TW.nipple play, TW.Mommy kink
Pairing: busboy!Keigo, linecook!Dabi, f!waitress!Reader
You’re a college student just trying to get by. The biggest worry you should have right now is if you had enough time to finish that psych paper or when you were going to meet up with your calculus study group. Instead, you’ve got a much larger problem facing you...A problem that has permeated through every aspect of your life. Your coworkers were Grade-A-Assholes who decided making your life miserable was on the top of their to do lists.
You thought waitressing at the 24/7 diner downtown would be a breeze. Money was tight and since you were 21 and almost done with your undergrad, you wanted a little more financial independence. Little did you know when the owner hired you that you’d have to work alongside the two biggest shitheads in the city.
First there’s Keigo. To the untrained eye, he could almost seem charming. But you found out pretty quickly what a dick he was. He was working as a “busboy”, but in reality he didn’t do anything but flirt with every woman within his field of vision. Keigo would leave the tables a mess until there wasn’t a clean one left in your station and you’d be forced to do his job for him.
“What, babe? Stop getting your panties in a twist. I’m real busy these days. You know I’m practically running this place now.”
Oh yeah. How could you forget? He took every opportunity to remind you of that fact. Keigo’s dad happened to be buddies with the owner, garnering a sense of trust with the old man. He slowly weaseled his way into running day-to-day operations while the elderly owner stayed home most days.
Although the diner needed another busboy to pick up his slack, Keigo refused to tell the boss to hire another. You overheard a phone conversation between Keigo and your boss just last night:
“Nah, boss. We’ve got it covered here. No need to hire another busboy. The waitresses are just finding reasons to nag. Women, am I right?”
You were fuming.
***
As bad as Keigo was, his friend Dabi was exponentially worse. The line cook was, without a doubt, a drug dealer. The only motive he could possibly have for working there is having a place to do business with his “customers”(and of course, to help Keigo make your life a living hell). It clearly wasn’t because he needed the money since you’d seen his “friends” slip him generous wads of cash when they stopped by the restaurant. If cleaning up Keigo’s messes sucked, trying to put in customer’s orders with Dabi was pure torture.
“Eggs over easy instead of scrambled? I dunno, Princess. Sounds like it’ll be a pain in my ass. Whatcha gonna give me if I do it?”
Then he’d lick his lips with his long pierced tongue, leering at you over the counter. Gag... You wondered if that ever actually worked in his favor.
One semi-decent thing you can say about Keigo is that he’d never actually laid a finger on you. The same can’t be said for Dabi. You learned after your first day to wear shorts under the skirt of your uniform. You were behind the counter slicing lemons when he took his spatula and lifted the hem of your skirt. Before you realized what he was doing, he was calling out to his partner in crime.
“Fuuuuuck, Kei! Look at the ass on the new girl!”
You wondered what was going on until you felt a breeze and realized it was your ass that was on display. You’d slapped the spatula away and straightened your skirt, but not before they both got an eyeful of your black, lace panties. You cried for ten minutes in the bathroom after your shift that day.
***
The day you’d been dreading was finally upon you. No, it wasn’t a big test or project due... You had to ask off work for your cousin’s wedding. That meant dealing with Keigo (who was now in charge of making the schedule each week).
You squared your shoulders and went over what you would say over, and over in your head so you wouldn’t stumble over your words when you had to face him.
“I need to have Saturday off for my cousin’s wedding. I can work the Sunday morning shift instead.”
This was repeated on a loop in your brain as you walked down the darkened corridor towards the office. You let out a long sigh and gently rapped your knuckles against the wooden frame. The sound of shuffling and muffled voices seeped through the thin faux wood and a moment later, the door swung inward. The thick cloud of smoke and strong, skunky smell almost knocked you flat on your ass. Instead of seeing Keigo alone working on the schedule, you saw that he and Dabi were hotboxing in the small office.
Knowing they were back here getting high while you closed the diner by yourself was the last straw. You slam the door behind you and stomp forward to lean over the desk Keigo was propped up behind.
“Listen you shit heads!” you slammed you fists on the desk knocking over a jar of pens. “I am so fucking sick of slaving away in this shit hole while you two get high and fuck off back here. You’re going to let me have Saturday off or I swear to Christ, I’m calling the boss and spilling my guts! About the weed, the drug deals, the snarky remarks, the groping, EVERYTHING! I’ve had enough!”
There was a moment of silence then the two of them burst into a fit of laughter. In a blind fit of rage, you leap across the desk and grab Keigo by the throat. When you made contact and squeezed as hard as your small hand would allow, a whimper escaped his throat and his eyes rolled back.
Now it was your turn to laugh.
“Oh, you’ve gotta be kidding me,” you gripped your fingers tightly again to see if you could pull any more sounds from him. He didn’t disappoint. This time it was a whimper followed by him nervously mumbling.
“Heh, Kid... Seriously, knock it off. This shit isn’t funny.”
Your eyes traveled down the front of his body and when they landed on the crotch of his baggy khakis, your suspicions were confirmed. This loser who acted like a certified pussy-slayer popped a boner just from you choking him.
You leaned in close to his face, using this as your chance to get revenge for all the hell he had put you through. “Aww little Keigo... Not used to being roughed up?” you cooed. “Dumb little baby Keigo...I bet if I kept this up, you’d come in your pants like a dirty slut, wouldn’t you?”
You felt movement over your shoulder and heard a deep chuckle. “Dude you’re so pathe-”
Dabi gasped as you grabbed him by the crotch with your free hand and squeezed. He was already hard. You met his eyes and see panic etched across his features. A sadistic grin spread across your mouth as you tightened your grip. His head fell back and let out a whimper almost as needy as Keigo’s.
“You’re both going to do exactly what I say or I swear, I will tell every girl you ever try to speak to what a couple of pathetic virgins you two are...”
***
“Ungh! Plea-please... Harder! I... I need more!”
*SMACK*
Your hand lands hard across the blonde’s face, drawing a pathetic whimper from his throat. He thrust his weeping cock along your shin whimpering, craving more pressure to relieve his suffering.
“You don’t get to tell me what you need, Keigo. Shut your fucking mouth and be grateful you get this much.”
You throw your head back against the office chair and hum as Dabi eats your cunt like it’s his last meal.
“Mmm... See Keigo? See what a good boy Dabi is being? He knows his stupid mouth is only meant for one thing... Making Mommy’s pussy feel good.”
The praise causes the dark haired man between your thighs to moan into your clit sending a pulse of pleasure through your lower body. The ball of his piercing circles your clit and you feel the familiar ache of an impending orgasm begin to tighten in your belly.
Keigo starts shoving Dabi away from you with a growl. “This is bullshit! I haven’t even had a chance yet!”
Dabi elbows him, ”Fuck off Kei! I almost had her finished off!”
Furious from being jerked back from the edge of your orgasm, you grab a fist full of blonde hair in one hand and black in the other. You pull their flushed faces up to look you in the eye.
“If you want to come at all, you will shut...the fuck...up... and get me off. Now”
Dabi wasted no time in diving back into your dripping slit, panting heavily while he ran his pierced tongue in and out of your swollen entrance. Keigo attacked your neck, whimpering as he planted sloppy kisses down your collarbone until his tongue was licking long stripes up you clothed nipple.
“I think you can do a little better than that, baby,’ you cooed into Keigo’s messy blonde tresses, sweetly tucking a strand of hair behind his ear. He took that as his cue to remove the clothing between your hardening bud and his hot, wet tongue.
Keigo latched onto your nipple, nursing it with vigor while he gently grazed his fingertips over the other. You heard him mumble something into the soft swell of your breast.
“Speak up,” you pull him away from your nipple with a pop, “I didn’t catch that...”
“I-I said... I...”
Your attention was drawn to the man between your legs as he began to suck down hard on your clit. The hand you had wrapped in Keigo’s hair tightened causing him to cry out.
“Mommy! Please! Wanna be your good boy! Wanna make Mommy come...” He sobs as he starts frantically licking and sucking your neglected nipple. This pushes you over the edge and your long awaited orgasm rushes over you.
After you come down from your high, you push them off and begin getting dressed while the two men you left on the floor look up at you with wide eyes.
Dabi, still panting from eating you so vigorously, chokes out a little half sob.
“But.. where are you goin? We did what you asked!”
“Yeah babe! what the fuck!”
You eyed both men and let the tension hang in the air before turning and walking to the door.
“Give me the whole weekend off. Then we’ll arrange something Monday,” you look over your shoulder, “As long as you don’t piss me off before then..”
You walk out of the office with the biggest grin you’ve had in a long time and feeling a lot more relaxed. Maybe this job was going to turn out better than you expected.

→ summary: there are only two weeks left until graduation—which means you only have two weeks left until you’ll be nothing more than a facebook birthday notification on his phone (unless you do something about it, of course.) → genre: high school!au, humor, slight angst → warnings: none unless you’re terrified of two idiots mutually pining for e/o → words: 1.2K → a/n: ain’t it kinda weird that there were some people you met in high school that you considered your “friend” but never kept in touch with them after graduation? like ships that have sailed past each other, only being left with some hope of crossing someday. idk, high school was weird. anyway, enjoy!
—part of the bgw drabble marathon (Tropes #5)—
Tumblr media
“So, have you asked anyone out to the graduation ball yet?” Hoseok asks you suddenly, his words muffled by the disgusting amount of pasta in his mouth.
From the corner of your eye, Jungkook’s shoulders tense. You don’t mean to notice—you weren’t even supposed to be looking at him. He has his gaze trained downwards, shooting lasers at his rice with enough intensity to cook it twice over.
“No, I haven’t,” you respond eventually.
“Time is running out you know! It wouldn’t look good if the class valedictorian arrived at the party without some good ol’ eye candy,” Hoseok says.
You scoff, taking a sip of your lukewarm apple juice. “Who says I need a man to make me look good?”
“Or woman, for that matter!” Chaeyoung pipes up. She wiggles her eyebrows, leaning across the lunch table until her chest almost gets a platter full of greasy cafeteria pizza. “You know, the offer is still open. I guarantee that if we went together, we’d be the prettiest bitches in the entire ballroom!”
You laugh, shaking your head. “You’re right, we would be… minus the fact that you’ve been pining over Eunbi for God knows how long, and it would be seriously shitty of me to deny you your last chance of getting together with her.”
Chaeyoung leans back, acquiesced. “Alright, you got me there,” she sighs, crossing her arms. “Still, you know I would drop everything and anything if you asked.”
“Not me though, I’m a selfish whore,” Jimin interrupts, reaching his minimum quota of giving his unsolicited opinion. He points finger guns at you. “I’m bringing my hot and sexy college boyfriend to the ball.”
“Oh right, how could we ever forget your mysterious ‘college’ boyfriend,” Hoseok scoffs, the quotation marks audible in his voice. “The one that we’ve never seen or heard of before, and also conveniently lives in a different city that is miles from here? That boyfriend?”
“Shut up!” Jimin glares, pointing his sharpened acrylic nail at him. “You’ll eat your words once you see how fucking gorgeous and hot and REAL my boyfriend is!” He turns to you, brows still quirked in irritation. “Anyway, as I was saying. Even though I’m going to the ball with my snookywookums, I’m willing to scout a date for you if you want.”
“I don’t think snookywookums is a Scrabble-verified word,” Hoseok says under his breath, nearly causing you to snort your pasta up your nose.
“T-Thank you, Jimin,” you say, coughing through your laughter. Lucky for Hoseok, Jimin’s massive ego doubles as a noise-cancelling material. “But I’m fine, really. I’m more than happy just hanging out with my best friends over some random guy.”
“Aww, that’s so sweet!” Chaeyoung coos, pinching your cheeks.
“–and also improbable,” Hoseok snorts. “These two whores are definitely gonna spend that entire night fucking their dates,” Hoseok says, jabbing his thumb at your resident bimbo-himbo combo, “while I will be busy with DJ-ing at the event, so you’re pretty much outta luck, chief.”
“What the fuck? You’re gonna DJ at our fucking graduation ball?” you squawk. “Why the hell would you volunteer to do that?”
“For… experience?”
“Really.”
Hoseok raises his hands in surrender with a pout. “Okay, fine. Maybe I wanted to impress Namjoon. Fucking sue me for being a hypocrite!”
“Ahah! The ogre has fallen in love with the prince!” Jimin hollers, earning himself a pinch in the tit from Hoseok.
You huff, annoyed. “Am I really being abandoned by all my friends? On one of our final days together as classmates before we inevitably part ways towards adulthood?”
A beat of guilty silence. Then:
“Yep!
“Totally!”
“You guys suck!”
You groan in defeat, rolling your eyes. “Fine then! I guess Jungkook and I will have to entertain each other, right Kook?”
The boy in question, who had been eerily quiet this entire lunch period, jolts in his seat after suddenly being addressed. His elbow hits the table with a bang, causing an impressive string of expletives to spill from his mouth.
Jimin snorts, amused. “Damn, you good? What’s got loverboy all jumpy?”
“Don’t call me loverboy,” Jungkook says through gritted teeth, his jaw clenched as he cradles his injured elbow.
“Well someone clearly pissed in your Cheerios. What’s up? Why are you being all broody and sulky?” Hoseok asks.
“I’m not being broody,” Jungkook says broodily. For a brief moment, your gaze catches his, but he quickly averts his eyes before you can get a good glimpse at the unknown emotion that tints them. “I just… got a bad grade in Chemistry. That’s all.”
“First time? I guess senioritis doesn’t hit all of us the same,” Jimin sniffs. “By the way, Kook. Do you have a date for the ball? If you do, then we can all shame Y/N into looking for a date and not feel guilty about it.”
“Hey!” you whine, but your attention is focused on Jungkook. You hold your breath, a looming sense of dread rising up your stomach like bile. A desperate plea rings through your head, crying out, “Please say you’ll go with me.”
As friends, you remind yourself.
Sure Jan, your inner voice replies.
Jungkook barks out a laugh, but it sounds hollow. “I, umm…” he trails off, fidgeting in his seat awkwardly. He puts down his chopsticks, wiping his clammy hands on his jeans. “I’m still, uh, working up the courage to ask her…”
“HER?! YOU LIKE GIRLS?” Chaeyoung screams, horrified. “Then why the FUCK have you been rejecting all those poor girls for the past four years?”
“I just wasn’t interested, I guess,” he shrugs. He pauses. “Wait, did you not know I was straight?”
“Kookie, I don’t know if you haven’t noticed, but you recoil like a raccoon being spritzed with water every time a woman so much as looks at you,” Hoseok points out.
“I’m just shy,” he grumbles.
To your left, Jimin nudges you gently. “Did you know?” he whispers, brows arched.
“Of course I did,” you snap. “That boy uses five-in-one shampoo and soap.”
Jimin leans back into his seat, a mystified expression on his face. “Damn, you’re right. And here I thought you just liked pining over him because you were a masochist.”
You choke on your own spit, feeling as though a large stone has just been dropped on your esophagus. You whirl towards Jimin with a death glare, but the shithead barely flinches in response. “What the fuck did you just say?” you seethe, panic clear in your voice.
“What did you say?” Jungkook repeats after you, jaw agape. You both make eye contact, and you notice the way Jungkook’s cheeks have flushed a deep red. You have no doubt in your mind that you aren’t faring any better. Shit!
“Now, we don’t have time to unpack all of that,” Hoseok interrupts. He gestures to the clock by the wall, which shows that your lunch period is about to end. He slams his lunch container shut, a large smirk on his face. “But this will definitely be a fun conversation for later, and I want front row seats.”
“Ditto! Text me once you’re out of your last class, okay?” Chaeyoung says, standing up with Hoseok. She blows a kiss your way and pats Jungkook endearingly on the head. “You guys have English together, right? Should be fun!”
“Gotta blast,” Jimin says, scrambling out of his seat before you can snap out of your daze long enough to twist his balls into a ponytail. He throws a mock salute at you, toothy grin on full display. “Have fun!”
Now left alone (i.e. abandoned) by your friends, you tentatively turn to look at Jungkook. You swallow thickly, cheeks flamin’ hot. “So, by the way…. About that date?”

you’re the one that i want (part 24)
word count: 5k
fluff
(part 23) (series masterlist)
it was crazy how long days used to feel during this time just last year, after winer break started and the draining third and forth marking periods of school started.
usually, you’d be crumbling.
working your hardest to maintain your grades while also dealing with a toxic home environment. you loved school because it served as a safe haven away from that but it also drained and exhausted every bit of you.
but four months of your life now passed by unbelievably fast and you were handling everything well, good people around you that made schoolwork just a little more tolerable.
when you were struggling with math, mingi would help you during lunch. if you needed someone to test you with flashcards, yeosang would reward every correct answer with a piece of food. when a particular teacher gave you shit for anything, wooyoung was quick to cause some sort of chaos even if it meant getting detention.
and when everything just got too overwhelming and you never wanted to look at another book again, seonghwa was quick to clear your desk and drag you to bed. lay you down and hold himself above you until you were smiling and giggling as he pecked kisses down your neck.
you think it was solely because of him and the others and your aunt that june came so fast, only two weeks left of school and everyone buzzing with excitement; even with the whines and arguing coming from your lunch table.
“you’re really gonna make us stay in a hotel for the whole summer?” wooyoung asked, looking at seonghwa with distrust and hurt in his eye. “i thought we had fun at your house that time.”
because with only two weeks left of school meant only two weeks left of you and seonghwa commuting back and forth.
of seeing wooyoung, san, mingi and yeosang every day who have really grown to love this dynamic; so much so, they’ve been all but begging to spend the whole summer there with you two.
but to no one’s surprise, seonghwa wasn’t for the idea.
“no, you guys had fun. i was one second away from flinging myself off a fucking cliff.”
“that’s not fair,” san whines.
but the dirty blonde only quirks an eyebrow and asks if it was fair that he had to sleep on the floor on his own bedroom every night. or be rudely woken up and forced to make breakfast. or share his girlfriend and-
“no hotel, you guys could always stay with me,” you interrupt sweetly, a small smile on your face that only widens when you feel seonghwa glaring at you. your head cranes over to look him up and down, a smirk crossing your face as you shrug your shoulders carelessly.
“what?”
“yeah, what?” wooyoung asks, mimicking your higher voice causing you to narrow your eyes at him.
“really? what?” seonghwa asks, annoyance and exasperation in his tone. “i don’t want you burning my girlfriend’s house down, that’s what.”
“girlfriend, this. girlfriend, that. we all know you have a girlfriend, okay.”
“what? girlfriend? i don’t have a girlfriend.”
everyone’s heads snap to the side when a new voice stammers those words out, yeosang finally arriving and standing there looking incredibly panicked and guilty.
it makes you in particular cock an eyebrow, the other boy’s “where the hell did you come from” and “we know you loser,” quickly turning back into whines and protests to seonghwa.
but for the the rest of lunch, you could only focus on how...odd yeosang is acting.
peeking at you every now and then before smiling awkwardly, checking his phone and trying to hide his smile, needing mingi or san to repeat themselves several times because he just seems so dazed and out of it.
when lunch ends, seonghwa is quick to stand up and grab your hand as per your usual walk to class together. but you take your hand from his hold and place it on his arm, standing up on your tippy toe to peck his cheek.
“can you go without me?” you ask softly, using a voice you know will always get him. “i wanna talk to yeosang for a second.”
“oh?” he mumbles, tucking a piece of hair behind your ear casually. “what about?”
“i don’t know, he was acting strange,” you say quietly, turning to see him gathering his stuff and checking his phone once more. “i wanna make sure he’s okay.”
the dirty blonde looks to yeosang and hums quietly, looking over his friend who meets his gaze.
“what?”
“why are you being a weird fuck?”
“seonghwa!” you squeal, smacking his chest before quickly ushering him away.
he lets out a loud chuckle before squeezing your hand once more, telling you he’ll meet you at the end of the period and meeting yeosang’s middle finger with one of his own.
“your boyfriend’s such a dick.”
a small smirk crosses your face as you shrug, looking the boy over with a suspicious look in your eye. a look that he catches and turns an endearing but humorous shade of red because of.
“why are you looking at me like that?”
“because i think you got yourself a girlfriend,” you say, poking his arm as you two walk through the crowded, bustling hallways. he lets out a scoff before bumping into you, remembering to be gentle;
because the last time he did that, you smacked into a wall and he paid for it dearly - curtsey of seonghwa’s fist in his stomach.
“what makes you say that?”
“just a vibe,” you say, the sweet smile on your face morphing into a teasing one when he raises an eyebrow. “and you’re little ‘who me? i don’t have a girlfriend!’ was the icing on the cake, really.”
he stares blankly at you causing you to giggle, shrugging your shoulders as you promise you won’t tell anyone if that’s the case.
and it takes a little bit of persuading, just a pout on your lips before you remind him how mean he was to you when you first met for good measure.
“that’s not fair,” he sighs out, a smirk on your face as you shrug your shoulders.
and just as you knew you would, you find out he’s been seeing a girl for a few months. that they’re not official or serious, only having been on a few dates but enough time for him to really like her.
“she kind of scared the shit out of me at first,” he laughs out and you have to suppress the squeal threatening to leave your lips at the sappy look on his face. “she still kinda does but she’s also really fucking cool. i don’t know, i just like her.”
and once he sees the bright smile on your face, he knows he made a grave mistake.
“but don’t tell those shitheads yet, i wanna ask her out first.”
“oh? when you are going to? today? oh, my gosh and how?” you squeal excitedly, the initial budding of a romance something that always makes your heart soar. but it proves to only make yeosang roll his eyes, the sound of the bell blaring through the hall saving him.
“perfect timing,” he quips, your arm shooting out to push at him before he rushes down the hallway to his class.
“perfect timing.”
san narrows his eyes at you a few hours later at the cafe, a smirk crossing your face when you see wooyoung wave to you from the window; it’s almost the 6th shift in a row the boy has made him late for but he looks all too pleased with himself.
“he has no shame,” you hum lowly, giggling softly when you see a blush cross san’s face. “and neither do you, apparently.”
“stop,” he whines, hitting you lightly in the arm. “you have to be nice, we only have a few weeks left together here.”
because as much as you love san and this cafe, commuting during the summer would’ve been an absolute nightmare. and his parents had been the ones to suggest it, telling you they would never in a million years fire you but wanted you to enjoy your summer.
“and you can’t do that if you’re trapped in a car ten hours a week,” they said, before taking notes from their son and promptly pushing free cookies and cakes down your throat.
but you’re really gonna miss this place. even if you’re only away from it for a few months, it acted as a safe haven when you really needed one. was one of the only places where you’d have a smile on your face and not feel like your life was falling apart at the seams.
“what do you mean? you guys are staying with me,” you say, looking at him like a confused puppy in a way that makes him smile.
“seonghwa’s not gonna allow that.”
“well luckily, it’s not up to seonghwa. it’s up to me and my aunt.”
san bites the inside of his cheek to hold back his smirk, looking at you with a quirked up eyebrow causing you to mirror his expression.
“what?”
“just keep that energy when he’s around too,” the boy teases before his eyes dramatically bat and his face becomes one of a lovesick teen. “but seonghwa, pleaseee,” he whines, doing a lousy impression of your voice that makes you smack his shoulder.
but your fight and quarreling is quickly interrupted by the uncharacteristically abrupt entrance of bo-ra, the once shy girl coming out of her shell a little bit more everyday.
you were happy you were able to keep your friendship with them despite the fact they were at different school, always having at least two customers a day who you could guarantee would make you and san smile.
“you guys will never believe this.”
and right when bo-ra tells you jojo has been seeing a boy for a few months now, you almost don’t believe it. not only because of the crazy coincidence that yeosang, too, has been seeing a girl for the past few months but because it might be jojo.
it almost seemed as if the girl had sworn off any and all high school boys because they are “mean, idiotic assholes who think with the wrong, less impressive head.”
and yeosang being the one to change that perspective? you couldn’t help but laugh at the irony of it all.
how yeosang, at one point, was the exact description of that. how, really, all of them were like that except the sweet blonde throwing his head back in laughter at this information.
“no way, who is he? and what’s wrong with him?”
you both let out a snort and hit the boy playfully, bo-ra putting a finger to her lips as she looks at san chastisingly.
“stop it, they’re coming any second now! i ran ahead because i could not stand to watch them awkwardly bump arms and blush any longer. but act natural. pretend i didn’t tell you. in fact, maybe you guys should act like you don’t even-”
but the second the door rings open, san is up and over to them in a second. he’s so hot in pursuit he doesn’t even realize it’s the familiar brown-haired boy, teasing eyes on jojo as he greets them with a tray of cookies.
“i gotta give it to jojo, i never thought  anyone would be able to-”
and it’s at hearing the lowly mumbled “shit,” under his breath that makes san stop talking, snapping his head over to see no other than yeosang looking at him with a half annoyed, half guilty expression.
“yeosang?”
Tumblr media
the last two weeks of school for you, and mostly everyone else, were great. the work was light, the teachers were lenient and every single person was in good spirits and anticipating the fun and relaxation that came with summer.
the last two weeks of school for yeosang, however, were...disastrous. because not only was everyone giving him shit for having a girlfriend, they were chastising him for keeping it a secret.
“it wasn’t a fucking secret! i just hadn’t asked her officially yet and i wanted to wait until-”
“we went through this shit before and we’re not about to do it again,” mingi says, whacking the top of the brunet’s head before looking at you and seonghwa. “no offense guys.”
“none taken,” you giggle out as you shake your head, seonghwa rolling his eyes before pulling you into him further. you smile softly against him and meet his gaze, smirking at the look on his face and leaning up to peck his cheek.
it’s a look that only gets more annoyed and tense as the conversation goes into summer, his arm still tightly around you serving as the only thing to keep him grounded and sane.
the same way you’re the only thing keeping him sane now, you in the front seat of his car while wooyoung, mingi, san and yeosang all flail around and hit each other in the back. the trunk is full of suitcases and bags filled enough for two months because, of course, he had lost that battle.
“i’ll definitely be a better surfer, are you fuckin’ nuts?”
“no fucking way, you’re too lanky.”
“well you’re too short! did you stop growing at age eight?”
seonghwa looks over at you, a pained expression on his face at the juvenile conversation in the back and you can only tighten your hold on your intertwined hands.
look down and smile at not only the banter of the boys and your boyfriend’s utter annoyance but the way his hand holds yours so securely.
how they fit together perfectly as you trace your other fingers over the black rings and veins of his hand.
“it’s gonna be fine,” you tell seonghwa softly, surprised he can even hear you despite the chaos in the back. “they could always stay with me if you need a break.”
but he only looks over at you and shakes his head, bringing your hand to his lips before he tightens his hold on you.
“absolutely not, i could never put you through that.”
you let out a snort before wooyoung’s head is directly between you both, his arms on the console and neck snapping back and forth as he begs seonghwa for surfing lessons to prove mingi wrong.
and much to the taller boy’s dismay, wooyoung actually did prove to be the better surfer.
because after only two days of you guys going down to the ocean, seonghwa’s reluctant help in teaching him, though nowhere near as thorough as the lessons he provided last year, proved that the brunet was just somehow naturally gifted at it.
“how does it feel to fucking suck?” wooyoung laughs at mingi, watching the boy roll in clumsily after being knocked by waves. his wet hair’s a mess of tangles and seaweed and yunho can only watch from the beach with a frown on his face.
“he’s trying though,” the tall boy whines to you, a giggle leaving your mouth as you shake your head.
“i know, he really is,” you say, the two of you laughing again as mingi jumps up and tries to dunk wooyoung under water. you two watch as the shorter boy gets away, much to mingi’s annoyance, and he looks at you two with a dejected look.
“come here,” yunho yells down to mingi, his large hand flagging the boy over. but he only lets shake his head and tells him to go there, that he needs his help now and is gonna cry if he doesn’t.
and what mingi wants from the boy, he gets almost immediately. because you don’t know if you’ve ever seen yunho move so fast, rolling your eyes at how easy he gives in before you lay back down and enjoy the warm sun on your skin - but only for a few moments.
because then you feel a familiar pair of arms around you, your eyes shooting open just in time to see you’re being thrown over seonghwa’s shoulder as he’s heads to the ocean. you squeal and hit his back and tell him he better not throw you in but you don’t even have to see him to know there’s a smirk on his face.
he goes in until it’s waist deep before promptly throwing you down, the freezing june water making you squeal out before popping up with a gasp.
“seonghwa!”
“i’m sorry, baby, but i had to,” he whines, circling his arms around your waist. you narrow your eyes but welcome his touch anyway, even jump up and wrap your legs around his hips in a move you’re all too familiar with in this ocean.
“you really didn’t,” you whine softly but he can only kiss your salty lips and you smile against them, meeting the chaste, sweet kiss back immediately. your arms wrap around his neck when his tongue slips in just a little teasingly, pushing yourself further into him and smiling when he pulls back.
“it’s broad daylight,” his deep voice chokes out warningly, your one hand snaking down to trace the lines of his stomach teasingly.
“you started it,” you quip back playfully, trying so desperately to remember there are far too many people around to repeat what happened several times right in this ocean.
but how could you forget? especially with the scoffs and splashing coming from just a few feet away from you.
“hey sickos, i’m pretty sure you can get arrested for that,” yeosang yelps, seonghwa pulling away to sneer at him while you hide your face in embarrassment because he’s probably right.
you can feel the dirty blonde smile against your head as you hide in his neck, seonghwa’s fingers threading through your hair before pulling your face back to look at him.
he can’t help but snort when he sees the pink flush on your cheeks, knowing it’s not from the sun because he made sure to put sunscreen on you before coming down to the beach today.
“did you put on sunscreen?”
your face drops and the guilty look in your eyes causes him to groan. he drops his board and takes the black bag from his back, zipping it open and pulling out a bottle of sunscreen.
“here.”
and you already know better than to refuse, taking it with a wince and quiet “thank you.”
he watches you rub it over your arms and shoulders, feeling your cheeks warm as his eyes stay on you. “did you put some on?” you ask, in an effort to distract yourself from his piercing gaze.
but he only nods his head, picking his board up and dusting off some sand and dirt as his eyes remain on you. you squirt some more on your hand before giving it to him with a grateful smile, rubbing it in and then wiping the excess on your face.
“thank you,” you tell him. “i always forget to put it on which would explain why i’m a little-”
“missed some,” he hums lowly, his hand slowly reaching out so his thumb can rub in the lotion on your cheek.
he does everything so smoothly and nonchalantly while you inhale sharply, your lips parting and watching him with wide eyes. it was the first indication that his touch was gonna be gentle this week, his hands softer than you expected. his eyes meet yours when he pulls his hand back, raising his eyebrow when he sees your face.
“you good?”
yeah, i’m good, you think, i just have a handsome boy touching my face about to put me in cardiac arrest.
he plays the memory over in his head and can’t help but smile, your eyes catching his dazed look along with the softer look in his eye.
“what?” you squeak, cocking your head to the side in confusion.
“nothing,” he says, shrugging his shoulders before tightening his hold on you. “i just love you.”
because he can’t help but think about those times last year, when he was bitter and jaded and so closed off to feeling anything positive. it’d all been a mask, of course, but he’d worn it for so long he didn’t know if he’d ever learn how to be without it.
but that was until he saw you, started everything with you right here in the form of soft, guiding touches that lingered just a little too long and shy looks back and forth that should’ve made him realize this was gonna be the result.
him so easily telling you he loves you, with any and everyone around to hear him say it so surely. biting back a smile and feeling his heart lurch in his chest when your face softens and mouth drops open.
because even though you know he loves you, know that he says it several times a day and means it every time, it’s these random little moments that make your heart flutter the most.
when he’s saying it for no other reason than that he wants you to hear it, that he becomes fully consumed by the feeling just from watching you smile or feeling you against him.
but you still can’t help but blush as you softly tell him you love him too, his skin littered with water droplets and the sun shining behind him so devastatingly familiar and handsome.
your arms tightly wound around his neck before he twirls you around and nearly sends you flying under water, your giggle and seonghwa’s deep chuckle echoing through the salty air.
but it’s quickly cut off by another voice, one much harsher and not so giddy.
“jesus christ,” yeosang grumbles, you and seonghwa snapping your heads over to see him looking at you both. “please don’t tell me i’m gonna look this pathetic.”
“fuck off,” seonghwa snaps. but you can only smack him lightly and look at yeosang with a raised eyebrow, because you’ve actually seen him and jojo together and can confirm they’re just as pathetic as you two.
“of course you do,” you say, your eyes moving back to shore as a small, teasing smile crosses your face. “because look, jojo just got here.”
and the way yeosang’s face brightens and his head snaps to the side is the first indication you’re absolutely correct. his eyes roaming the beach and softly spoken “where is she?” making you feel just a little bit bad for lying.
Tumblr media
the girls did, however, make it just a few days later for a weekend trip. yeosang greeted jojo just as pathetically as he feared to look, his arms wrapping around her body and pressing a kiss to her head like they hadn’t seen each other in months.
mumbled that he missed her and how pretty she looked and you had to turn your face into seonghwa’s chest so you didn’t squeal.
it was nice to see them both so vulnerable. when you first met them, they were harsher and colder, with walls not so easy to break down that always made them sneer in the face of love. made them question couples that made it seem like the end of the world when they were apart.
but now, they’re going through that dilemma firsthand with all the other couples, when talk of a girl sleepover and boy sleepover happen, san being looped into the former purely due to bo-ra’s request.
“what, no,” wooyoung whined, arm reaching out to pull the blonde back by the shirt. “he has to be with us. he’s technically a boy.”
“technically?” san asks, snapping his head to the side to look the pouting boy.
"but there’s already too many of you, yunho’s parents will go crazy,” you say, walking over and smacking wooyoung’s hand off the blonde. “and you get to see him all the time. bo-ra and jojo are only here for the weekend.”
“b-but,”
“i’ll be back to you in the morning, drama queen, since i’m only technically a boy,” san says, secretly far too excited with a night away from them; he loves his friends and woo but sometimes they get even a little too crazy for him, having grown used to spending all his time with you.
and of course, you don’t miss your own boyfriend’s reluctance to let you go but can only assure him with a sweet smile and teasing shake of the head before you all run inside and lock the doors.
it takes your aunt all of two seconds to fall in love with your new friends, a spread of dessert and soda in wine glasses (except for her own) keeping you occupied well into the night.
you all laugh until tears are in your eyes and your sides hurt, the boys just a house away hearing the ruckus through the open windows.
“do you think...they’re talking about us?” wooyoung asks seonghwa and yeosang, the dirty blonde rolling his eyes as yeosang’s mouth drops open.
“oh, my god do they do that?” the brunet asks, shock and horror in his voice as both boys turn to look at seonghwa.
the dirty blonde is tapping on his phone before he feels eyes on him, looking over to see his two friends staring at him wildly.
“what is wrong with you guys?”
“let’s sneak over. i can’t take not knowing what they’re laughing about.”
“what if they’re talking about our...”
another loud chorus of giggles and cackles rings through the window and it causes yeosang and wooyoung to shoot away from the window, paranoia quickly creeping up on them.
“shit! they’re they go again. what the hell could be so damn funny?”
“they must be getting details from jojo now,” seonghwa says casually, wooyoung snorting as yeosang’s head snaps to him in outrage.
and while you guys might’ve been talking about them a little, you’d never let them know that. you’d never let them know you actually shared about how sweet and thoughtful they could all be, even given their flaws.
but somewhere between talking and laughing and then going out in the pool, stormy clouds rolled in and before you knew it, rain and thunder was pelting against your window.
blankets and pillows were sprawled out across your aunt’s couch as you all laid there cuddled into one another, san’s head on your foot while your head rested on jojo’s shoulder.
it took one movie to knock them out and then another for last girl, now just you with the darkness and roaring weather outside quickly making you miss the boy next door.
you’d gotten used to having him every night; more often than not, you slept together and woke to one another and now you’re feeling just a little hypocritical for tearing wooyoung and san away from each other so easily.
because you’re quick to sneak away from your three sleeping friends, cover them with blankets and turn of the tv, before sneaking into your room.
one particularly loud crack of thunder causes you to jump, cursing yourself when you check the pockets of your pajamas and realize you forgot your phone downstairs.
“shit,” you mutter under your breath, about to turn around and make your way back down when you hear a knocking on your balcony door.
and then suddenly, your life feels very much so like a horror movie - no means to communicate with anyone, the howling wind and darkness outside, a mysterious knocking at a door that the character is stupidly going to investigate.
but maybe it’s because, somehow, you knew your soaking wet boyfriend was gonna be standing on the other side.
“i texted you,” he says simply, like he’s not standing out in the pouring rain or giving you a mini heart attack.
“you could’ve rang the doorbell!” you whisper-yell, pulling him inside before telling him to stay there. you run frantically around your room for a towel and an extra set of his clothes you ‘borrowed’ before throwing them at him.
“why did you do that, you’re gonna get sick!”
and despite your rush of adrenaline to save him, another crack of thunder causes you to jump and he can’t help the smirk that crosses his face.
“you’re really asking me that?”
“i told you i’m not scared of thunder,” you say surely, taking his wet clothes and hanging them in the bathroom before seeing he made himself quite comfortable in your bed.
it’s upon hearing another boom outside, shaking the house and causing a squeal to leave your mouth, that you quickly scurry in next to him. cuddling yourself into him and resting your head on his chest as he wraps an arm around you tightly.
he smiles against your head and doesn’t comment on the pounding of your heart against him, how any time a loud crack of thunder comes, you cling onto him just a little tighter the way you always do during a storm.
“i’m not scared,” you insist, a deep chuckle leaving his mouth as he presses a kiss to the top of your head.
“i know, baby, i just missed you,” he mumbles against your head, bringing your face to his so he can place a kiss on your lips. he tightens his hold on your hair when you deepen it, reach up and part of your mouths before moving up to straddle his hips.
and despite the growing hardness you feel underneath you the more you kiss, he never tries to take it further. you just kiss and giggle and smile against the others mouth until you rest your head back on his chest, the feeling of his hand rubbing your back and softly spoken “i’m here, baby,” lulling to the sleep despite the storm outside.
even though you’ll both be awakening to a different type of storm tomorrow, when wooyoung and yeosang discover seonghwa had snuck out and made his way to the house next door.

can you headcannons for atsumu, kageyama, and suna on the team finding out about your secret relationship and they're surprised because you're kind of a known player?? ty
a small secret ft. miya atsumu, kageyama tobio, and suna rintaro
a/n: i love this idea and writing it was actually super fun!! hope u enjoy this lil anon - fairy
warnings: mentions of sex
kageyama tobio
kageyama is a quiet dude who’s obviously more reserved and private about his relationships. people knew him as that talented volleyball player  with a cold demeanor.
meanwhile, you were more open about things like this. people generally knew who you were dating or who you had a thing with.
with that being said, you and kags would be the most unexpected couple ever.
while hinata’s grades were thriving under the tutoring of yachi, kageyama was still pretty bad at school. that’s when a teacher assigned you to help him.
he didn’t really care about his grades, just volleyball, but he was smitten with you, his pretty tutor.
he’s heard about you and your boy toys before, but you seemed so sweet and mindful and easy to talk to. you accommodated his needs and he slowly fell in love with you for that.
fast forward, he gives this nervous ass confession because he couldn’t take it anymore and prepared himself for rejection cause a pretty thing like you could easily have anyone else. to his surprise, you agreed to go on a date with him.
he wanted to be more quiet about it because he didn't see a reason to be open about your relationship. though, if people found out, you wouldn’t mind. you wanted people to know you were dating your pretty boyfriend.
sometimes you would mention this to him and he would get flustered.
“baby, are you ashamed of me?”
“what? no, why?”
“it’s just that i don’t understand why we have to be a secret. i know i have a reputation and all, but i want people to know i'm dating a pretty boy like you.”
you didn’t even think much of anything you said, but tobio was fucking blushing
“what baby?”
“pretty?”
you laughed and gave him a small kiss on the cheek
“forget what i said about our secret, i’ll go get you some milk pretty boy.”
he got a nosebleed after that sentence
of course, he wouldn’t willingly tell the team. he didn’t see a reason to unless one of them tried to get with you, but he knew damn well none of them would try.
but when hinata’s nosey ass noticed that kageyama was on his phone more during practice, the secret was basically doomed.
“who are texting ka-”
“none of your business!”
“is it a girlllll?”
and kageyama’s eyes widened as he forgot how to form a sentence
“n-n-no!”
“liar!”
one day, practice ends early and he rushes to the convenience store to get some milk before he went to your house to surprise you. coincidentally, you were at the convenience story, too.
the rest of the team eventually catches up to him.
“tobio?”
once he heard his name from you soft lips, he looked to the right and there you were, gorgeous as ever. you felt a exhausted, but he thought you looked like you were glowing. and so he wrapped an arm around your waist while you looked at the milk together.
“you know, i was going to bring you some milk.” you spoke shyly. he gave you a peck on the cheek.
“oh, really?” he smiled. you were thoughtful
“yeah.”
he reached for two milk boxes. one being his classic plain milk and some strawberry milk he knew you would like. he poked your side and you laughed and gave him a soft kiss on the lips. and another. and another. luckily, there weren’t that many people in the drink isle.
“tobio, what if someone sees?”
“there’s no one here.” he said, grabbing your hand as you two walked up to the cash register.
and nearby, you were met with the shocked faces of karasuno’s volleyball team.
“i knew it!! kageyama has a girlfriend! that’s why he keeps staring at his phone during practice!” hinata’s fiery hair sparked up at the satisfaction of being right.
“oh, (y/n)! how did you end up with him of all people? he’s so mean!” hinata continued to malfunction.
“for once, i agree with shrimpy here.” tsukki added.
kageyama was flustered, but hinata’s comments only changed his facial expression to one that’s more psychotic.
“yeah, i think i remember hearing oikawa trying to get with her, right (y/n)?” tanaka asked. kageyama looked at you shocked. he didn’t remember you telling him about this.
“yeah, he did,” you responded, tanaka nodding as you spoke, “but i already kind of had someone in my life.” you face heated up as your grip on kageyama’s hand tightened.
“i can’t believe my kouhai got a girlfriend before me.”
miya atsumu
tsumu was proud of the fact he was dating you. he liked the fact that you were able to pin him down and he was also able to pin you down as well. you were one of the few things he often thought about that wasn’t volleyball.
beforehand, you were constantly going on dates with random guys, constantly being disinterested, constantly getting the same plain moves, constantly being bored.
sure, tsumu had his fangirls, but you had a fair amount of random guys pining after you. you were pretty, easy to vibe with, and fun to be around.
you had classes with the infamous setter, but didn’t pay much attention to him. after all, he was probably busy with his fangirls. he would have to make an effort in trying to get to know you.
while tsumu is very good at sweet talking girls, he didn’t know how to sweet talk you.
he’s seen many failed attempts and noticed how you wouldn’t stay with a guy for longer than a week.
but it turns out that you were good friends with osamu. oh god, he hoped you guys were strictly platonic.
so when you started coming around their house more to hang out with samu and cook together, he used his chances to just talk to you. he wanted to get to know you better. but he knew that you were probably in love with his twin brother by now.
you and tsumu vibed!! samu noticed, but decided not to say anything. after all, you did help him get a date with your friend in exchange for cooking lessons.
“do you like osamu?”
“no? what gave you that idea?”
“i mean, you always come over and cook with him and i really like talking to you while you’re here-”
you shut him up with a kiss
and as you came around more for reasons beyond cooking lessons, it eventually bloomed into a relationship that lasted more than a few weeks.
kita noticed how tsumu would be in a rush to leave after practice. you guys really only had certain times you could see each other due to the fact that you wanted to avoid his scary fangirls. you had an image that wasn’t all positive and when they find out that you’re dating tsumu, you knew it was going to get worse.
you waited on the side of the gym nervously making sure that the area was empty. the sight of you with tsumu’s practice shirt, which he left at your house the last time he was over, is a blatant sign that something was going on with you two. for months, both of you have been good at hiding it, but you wondered when you can feel the relief of being in an open relationship. while sneaking around was really hot, it was also very stressful.
“y/n.” the sound of your name coming from his lips made you feel.. things. things you weren’t used to. and you would never get used to the smile that came after you turned around and looked him in the eyes.
“you left this at my house. i thought you would need it.” you responded with a small smile on your face. you awkwardly stuck out the shirt in front of him, the atmosphere full of tension. god, it would be nice to kiss him right now. he looks all sweaty, hard at work, and the shirt he was currently in was a little too small. wow. that’s kind of hot.
almost like he read your mind, he moved forward and you backed up until you hit the wall. he leaned in closer and closer until his lips planted into yours. it was a deep, passionate kiss that quickly heated up with each passing moment. and it kept going with your teeth tugging onto his bottom lip as he pulled away. it felt like the sun had decided to turn it up a degrees.
a deep cough interrupted you two and you immediately pushed him off.
“so this is why you’ve been leaving practice a little early, tsumu?” kita asked, a small smirk on his face. osamu and suna snickered.
“i'm amazed that a shithead like you was able to get (y/n) of all people.” while you did love your boyfriend, you did need to laugh.
“shut up samu!”
“just make sure you use protection. you better come back to practice in five minutes.” kita gave a threatening glare in tsumu’s direction.
suna rintaro
suna is also pretty quiet and reserved like kageyama.
similarly, he doesn’t see a reason to have a public relationship. he likes that he has intimate moments with just you two. he likes that there’s still guys pining after you, but he knows they’ll just be disappointed because you’re his. every rejection satisfies him.
although, you also tend to be a natural flirt and suna trusts you. he knows that you’re all talk and it makes keeping the relationship a secret even easier.
you guys start becoming friends through a project. the team knows about you two being partners, but of course they don’t think about it much. you’re pretty hot and tsumu makes a few comments about that.
he gets annoyed, but he does confess and all of the sudden you guys are having fun in his bed. fuck atsumu’s horniness dude.
eventually, the project is done and you two seemingly go your separate ways.
in reality, he comes to your house after every practice. you sneak him bento boxes in his locker when no one is around. he leaves you little snacks in yours.
you know that he loves those jelly fruit sticks, so you have them ready every time.
one day, you see that the volleyball club needs a manager. so, why not sign up and surprise your boyfriend? you’ve never been able to see him practice anyways.
kita relays the news to the rest of the team. suna is secretly happy because now you can watch his spikes and hopefully he’ll look cool for you.
everyone’s a little surprised because what does this hot girl heartbreaker gain from being their manager? is atsumu that hot? did she hear about osamu’s cooking skills and trying to ease her way into getting some good free food? is kita that hot??
nonetheless, you continue to do your job and silently appreciate your boyfriend. he basically acts like you don’t exist during practice, but you don’t mind. you know you two will be in the sheets later anyways and that’s enough attention for you.
but atsumu,,, he gets on his nerves
“so you’re our pretty new manager, aren’t ya?”
you turn and your sight is met with a sweaty miya atsumu. suna overhears this and suddenly his ears perk up. what the hell is atsumu planning?
you turn to suna. normally, you would respond back and he knows that, so that’s what you do. you turn back to tsumu and flash a friendly smile.
“yeah. i guess i am. and you’re the hot sweaty volleyball player with the ten thousand fangirls?” you pulled your lower lip with your teeth as you looked up at him.
“yeah, i don’t have to introduce myself, then.”
and it goes on like that for ten minutes. it was sweet talking at first, but now you two are just casually getting to know each other. he’s telling you things about the team and giving small tips for your manager position. it was honestly helpful and you eased into the conversation. it was just like two friends.
although, suna seemed a little distracted. aran was trying to talk to him, but his words seemed to flow into suna’s ear and come out the other. aran noticed he was staring at something and once he figured it out, he let out a silent prayer for tsumu. what was this?? he had seen you talk to guys before. he’d seen you be a playful flirt. and he had to problem with it. you would push them away at some point. but seeing you talk to atsumu sparked something in him.
and then he snapped, walking directly towards you. he ignored the questioning looks of his teammates and snaked an arm around your waist until you faced him. he was warm and you wanted to melt into his touch so bad, but your brain reminded you that this was supposed to be a secret.
“baby what are you do-”
and suna planted a warm kiss on your lips. his tongue forcefully slipped past your mouth and you melted into it. you knew you would have a good time later. a few wolf whistles were heard, but you were too dazed to acknowledge them.
“oh no! our poor manager is dating suna!”

Had this in my drafts for a while since I’ve made similar posts but I decided I might as well send it out, clearly I’m very passionate about this lol:
Looking in the Harry Potter tag and there is a lot of stuff saying bad things about Draco and Pansy apologists and how their only arguments are headcanons.
Ok, I guess I can respect your opinion but I’m gonna argue a bit here.
For Pansy? Sadly, yes. Unfortunately, J.K. made all her bully characters after people she knew which stop her from making them into well thought out characters. Pansy has now been taken over the fandom which I consider a good thing because at least she’s not a pancake now.
For Draco? Here’s where the whole head canon thing falls apart.
Also I don’t like the people that only like Draco for his looks. Or that they only like Draco because he’s misunderstood. I know this might seem odd considering what my argument will be about but you’ll see what I mean.
So Draco. We need to get into backstory. Of course we know that he was raised in a rich household and going by how every character like him is- he was most likely spoiled and doted on by his parents (because bullies can’t come from poor households and have a shitty life a la Dudley, Pansy, maybe Blaise, honestly he was just a cool dude who hated everyone).
Because he was spoiled he concluded that he was always in the right, he deserved to be the best, and he could do no wrong. We also know that Lucius and Narcissa were hoping that Harry would be the next dark lord, therefore we know that Draco was taught so.
He gets rejected for being a jerk by his idol and supposed new friend? He becomes a jerk to them. For a few years. He’s a shithead. Don’t agree with me? Then you clearly don’t care about whether someone is in the right or wrong- it’ll be about the looks and only for the looks, won’t it?
Anyways, we know he does some bad stuff. He terrorizes the main trio, bullies children either younger than him or from different houses, calls people slurs. Grade A asshole.
Then something changes.
Voldemort comes back and suddenly his family isn’t all elite like they used to be. They are some of the Death Eaters (mainly because of Lucius as he was the only DE at the time) that are ridiculed and shamed for not admitting their allegiance to the dark lord once he fell and they find themselves having to cater the “man” himself.
Draco starts seeing people get tortured and die, right in front of him. Obviously, this doesn’t happen immediately as he has no worries in The Order Of The Phoenix. It’s really in The Half-Blood Prince when things start to change.
He’s 16 when he sees the horrors from working under a “man” so cruel. It only gets worse once Lucius and the other DE’s fail their mission to retrieve the prophecy. Lucky for Lucius, he was in Azkaban. And yes, I said lucky. While yes, he gets all his happiness sucked out, his child is having to witness death, torture, he has to be alert at all times, he’s practically walking on eggshells, and he has to see everyone he’s ever known at school get tortured.
This is obviously when he starts to change. Especially during Easter (I believe) when Harry, Ron, and Hermione are brought to him. Everyone recognizes the latter but they look to Draco for Harry who is almost unrecognizable.
It’s hard to assume that a boy who has known Harry since 11, has constantly been in his face and ridiculed him, and knows his friends who he’s always with would say that he doesn’t recognize him or isn’t sure.
And if J.K. chalks it up to the spell then she’s clearly trying to just make Draco look bad so Snape can have all the redemption points.
I know we don’t like to mention this and it isn’t canon but take the Cursed Child. The writers were making fan fiction for the sake of it but they did Draco so good. He was actually redeemed.
They made him sorry for what he did. They had him teach his son opposite of what almost got him killed as a child. He worked along side Harry for his son, yes, but he wasn’t the Draco we knew from a majority of the books. He grew up. Unfortunately, he had to do it to save himself and his family but he grew up.
Draco is an asswipe. He’s a bully. If he hadn’t gone through so much emotional torture than this wouldn’t exist because he’s that much of a fucknut.
Now say it with me:
Draco Malfoy shouldn’t be summarized as a hot, misunderstood, sad boy nor should he be characterized as an unredeemable twat. He’s human and if anyone believes either of those misconceptions than you clearly don’t know a morally grey character from a Wattpad BTS/Harry Styles/Werewolf mafia leader love interest.
