ALRIGHTY so getting right into it, pompeiis eruption was mainly just ash and dust falling down on the city, along with some pumice etc. it covered the city so thickly that even people who stayed inside died.

but that's not all. the dust rushing down the mountain, called the pyroclastic surge, got superheated. i can't remember the exact number but it was big. think burning upon impact.

speaking of the heat of the pyroclastic surge, it was so hot that the people standing in the streets immediately evaporated all the water in their bodies, and that's why they were all curled up on the ground, the heat caused their muscles to contract. cool, huh?

okay. i just watched the movie Snakeskin (2001). i bought a physical dvd in the year of our lord 2024 because Taika has 6.5 minutes of screentime in it. and now i'm sitting here trying to process wtf i just watched asjdhfdjsk so here are the highlights (thank you Meow @blakbonnet for going through this experience with me)

main character Alice (Melanie Lynskey) is a huge fan of ✨America✨. her best friend is in love with her but she only wants Bad Boys. also said friend's name is Johnny but it's actually Craig

ALSO Craig-slash-Johnny is played by Dean O'Gorman (Fili)??!?!?!?

their hobby is to drive around picking up hitchhikers but only those who look not boring

enter The American. this guy is the most American you have ever seen. americans wish they could be as American as this guy. no one else has ever Americaned harder.

as you can see, i'm not lying. he even says "howdy ma'am" so we're convinced he is a real American

three skinheads are after The American because he stole their drugs (i think). he also stole drugs from Nelson and Daisy, who now owe money and/or drugs to their boss, who also has beef with The American for reasons i'm still not totally sure of

The American not only steals drugs and money, he also has a real gun(!!!) and fucks pretty much everyone?

by nighttime, all three cars (main characters, mr. trippy, and the nazimobile) and the motorcycle (mr. drug boss) have made it pretty far up the mountain, it seems. cute moment between mr. drug boss and nelson. look how :D he is!

but you know a movie with Taika in it needs to have a father figure talk down to him so he gets very 🥺 right after this

lots of shit goes down (i won't spoil too much if by any chance you still want to watch this) and it turns out that the older skinhead guy is the best actor in the movie??

and NOW things get weird

Craig and The American have so much beef by now that they decide to solve it by russian roulette

Alice's reaction to this is something like "ugh, you guys are crazy, i can't watch this 🙄"

like she just walks away?? GIRL THEY'RE AIMING A REAL GUN AT EACH OTHER

she keeps COMPLETELY UNDERREACTING TO WHAT IS HAPPENING like (spoilers from now on) CRAIG IS SHOT AND KILLED and she doesn't even run over and she doesn't even say anything to The American?? WHO SHOT HIM???? he's just standing there??

and then. AND THEN.

ok this is where i fully lost it for several minutes and missed half the following scene. i was fucking HOWLING like actually crying with laughter, i couldn't see or breathe and my partner got worried ksjdhfdjsk ok so here's what happens

they're in the car. craig is obviously very dead. alice is kinda in denial i guess. The American tells her to shut his eyes and she's like why? BECAUSE HE DEAD GIRL!! but she doesn't, she doesn't shut his eyes, no, this is what she does instead

I COULD BARELY MAKE THIS GIF BECAUSE I KEPT LAUGHING TO THE POINT OF TEARS

NOT THE SUNGLASSES ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. THE UNTAPPED MEME POTENTIAL HERE IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS

ANYWAY shortly after this we hear one of the funniest lines in the movie (and it's not even about the shooting and killing of Craig):

"fuck, Seth! this isn't fucking America, you can't just go around shooting everybody!"

oh yeah The American does have a name and it's Seth

i'll just post a few chat screenshots for the next part because i can't really describe it, i promise we're almost at the end

after some incredible visual effects™️, we end with Return of the Sunglasses (and me scaring my cats away because i was sobbing again)

i haven't even really talked about Taika's scenes much (the reason i watched this in the first place) because the ending took me OUT and honestly he is maybe the most normal person in this whole movie. one review (from the trailer) wrote this:

FINAL CABIN PLACEMENTS I DON'T WANT TO EDIT IT AFTER THIS

So many of y'all had so many good ideas (and since a lot of these i came up with without any real reasoning) here's my updated version that i think fits A LOT better

#1 Zeus Cabin: Jimmy, Joel Jimmy: He's a Zeus kid, but everyone somehow forgets about it. Joel: He's competitive and strong. Also, because Jimmy is his half brother through godly parent, i get to make a fun bit about him dating Lizzie. And one of his origins in Afterlife SMP was a thunderborn

#2 Hera Cabin: Scott, Impulse, Ren Scott: Scott's whole thing is loyalty. Hera is the goddess of marriage and is insanely loyal to Zeus. However, I feel like Hera should get at least one affair. So now Scott can use peacocks as weapons. Impulse: According to @dawnfire7 Impulse is known for loyalty, which i did not know. He's also known to hold grudges. Perfect Hera kid. Ren: He's apparently known for loyalty (and i didn't really like his Nike placement anyway)

#3 Poseidon Cabin: XB XB: Something about water temple guardians

#4 Demeter Cabin: Sausage, Shelby, Bdubs, Stress Sausage: This man built Sanctuary in a jungle and has flowers in his hair. He sells wood. There is no other place to put him. Shelby: Mushroom gnome, spooky mangrove witch, powerful storm witch, i need not continue. Bdubs: Moss man. Stress: SHE HAS FLOWERS

#5 Ares Cabin: Martyn, False Martyn: His planet is Mars, which is the roman version of Ares. He ended Limited Life in such a violent way, i can't help it. He was also red for the majority of Secret Life. False: I just feel like False should get to kill people more often.

#6 Athena Cabin: Grian, Pix, Owen, Xisuma Grian: This sums it up pretty well

Pix: Smart man. Archeologist and definitely a nerd. I wanna see him skipping out on training just so he can read history books. Owen: He likes to explore and discover new things in Pirates. In Rats, he's a tinkerer. In New Life, he's an explorer who wants to study hybrids. In Empires, he's a Llama who's curious about how humans work. Just a very curious character overall. Xisuma: Admin. I'm not elaborating.

#7 Apollo Cabin: Oli, Lyarrah Oli: MUSIC. MAN. Lyarrah: She writes the captions for the hermitcraft recap.

#8 Artemis Cabin: Pearl, Gem Pearl: Y'know, Artemis could've just like... had a kid, even though she took that oath. It wouldn't even have to be with a guy. Gods can change to whatever gender they want. Anyway, Pearl gets to be an Artemis kid because her symbolism is moon, she loves dogs, and will commit murder and hunt at night. Gem: Someone really wanted these girls to be sisters, and I think Gem and pearl should get to hunt at night and be fierce together. Oh, and she's got the whole deer aesthetic.

#9 Hephaestus Cabin: Doc, Mumbo, Tango, Zedaph, Fwhip, Iskall Doc: Redstone Mumbo: Redstone Tango: Redstone Zedaph: Redstone Fwhip: Redstone AND has a red scarf (don't ask me how that's relevant) Iskall: Redstone

#10 Aphrodite Cabin: Keralis, Skizz, Bigb Keralis: Okay, I don't know why, but Keralis gives me the vibes of a very charming person. His voice is nice to listen to, so imagine how useful it'd be if I gave him charm speak. Skizz: Person in the tags said he was really charming and you can't help but love him. I agree. He's here now. Bigb: Smooth talker. Someone (i think it was Scott) said in one of their videos "It's hard to kill him while he's talking". Charmspeak. Ma man, go do chaos.

#11 Hermes Cabin: Scar, Etho, Joe Scar: Trader Scar, scammer extraordinar. Etho: All i must say is Shady-E's. I get "jack-of-all-trades, master of none, often better than master of one" vibes from him. He's funny, he's mischievous, it just works. Joe: Comedy man. Excellent delivery. And, yet again, i look at this man and go "That right there is a multi-talented man with a habit for mischief."

First off, I absolutely love this game. When you have a character who is designed to fit in the 'yandere' troupe, it's easy to fall into the same traps or get stuck in one place in your story. The way the creator made mychael an evolving yandere is what makes it that much more interesting. By the public, a yandere is seen as a school girl who is obsessed with a male classmate who is willing to off the people around him so she can have him all to herself. As time has gone on, there have been more appearances of male yandere characters. Though, the male characters don't get too much recognition.

                  What is a yandere?

A yandere is often sweet,caring, and innocent before switching into someone who displays an extreme, often violent, or psychotic level of devotion to a love interest. -Dictionary.com

Even though this is the main definition, a lot of people don't look past the cute aesthetic the character portrays, and believe this extreme behavior is simply instinct for this character, but this is far from true.

Yuno Gasai (GIF below) is a great example of fan dismissal of concerning behavior due to her aesthetic. Admittedly, the only one being fooled by this demeanor is Yuki (the main character), nonetheless, when Future Diary released a lot of people were entranced by the "cute but deadly" schoolgirl behavior Yuno exhibited.

   Characters with 'yandere' tendencies are often the ones who have a sad/lonely past or present existence. Focusing back on mushroom Oasis, Mycheal is a being who doesn't fit with humans, so he lives in the woods. Even from day one, you can tell something is off about him (not just physically, of course). You can tell he has a good heart, but he allows his weariness to be alone again to make his decisions. Even from day one, he is ADAMANT on the protagonist staying. However, he doesn't do anything drastic until the very end because at that point, he's trapped in his own head.

  The evolving yandere (or the yandere that stays true to the traditional definition) make room for a more through character or even character development. Will mychael get character development in that specific sense? It would certainly be interesting, but probably not the type of thing the creator is going for. To be frank, the main reason why I'm personally obsessed with mushroom oasis is because even though it only has 3 days, there is enough story to make you want more.

    🍄 Let's talk more about Mychael.🍄

What is mychael? As of right now, the creator hasn't given an answer to what exactly he is, but he isn't human. He makes it clear from his very first lines that we are the first human he's seen in a while. When the day goes on, if you make the decision of kindness, mychael will become more attached. Mychael goes to drastic measures to keep you with him. In days one and two, we see a more desperate mychael; a "I'm sorry I hurt you, I just wanted to be together but you should've given in" type of person.

What makes mychael so dangerous?

Putting the topic of yandere behavior aside for a moment, mychael is very human despite the fact he isn't one himself. Mychael subconsciously craves the company of another person, even if he consciously pushes them away. We see him talk negatively about himself in days one and two

On day three, we see mychael portrayed as someone who is sick of going back and forth or being patient with the protagonist. The protagonist WILL stay, and the protagonist WILL live with him. There is no negotiation. Funny enough, the later days are when mychael actually doesn't use his hypnosis as often, if at all. He's relying more on himself and his own physical thoughts, then using his hypnosis to aid him. He gets more agitated, and his mind often keeps drifting off.

Conclusion

I personally find day 3 to be the climax or near the climax for the story. He loses some of the behavior we saw from the days before, and instead, we see him in a more terrifying light. Seeing the obsession build from a pure desire to connect with another person to wanting that individual all to himself helps give depth to mychael then just a 'yandere'. Overall, if you haven't played the game already, I highly recommend it even though it's a 3 day demo (subject to change).

just imagine it. imagine you're davey jacobs. you get home from school, you eat dinner with your family, you do your homework and study for whatever upcoming test and then you hop on discord. the first thing you hear is crutchie shouting at jack for misplacing an item. apparently a creeper blew up race's shitty shack and it's all blink's fault. you log into the server. your diamonds are missing again. you witness jack and race fight with their fists. everything is perfect

jack is a great builder and always has the prettiest houses, but he also loves loves loves mining and spends hours upon hours looking for diamons and it doesn't bore him one bit. and also he always mines coal even if there's "enough" in the base. his favorite biome is the badlands so he can live out his cowboy fantasies

davey knows everything. you don't know how to obtain this very niche block or how to make a certain item? he knows. he also knows the level on which to find diamonds and netherine, he knows how to find slime chunks, he knows all the code-y tech-y stuff and helps everyone in that aspect, for example when they need a nether route from point A to point B. you know what i mean. his favorite biome is taiga

crutchie always takes care of the farms, both animal and plant ones. he can go searching for all seeds available and then make one of those giant automated water farms. but he never makes those really tight animal farms and instead builds barns and big areas and treats the animals like friends :) his favorite biome is the plains or mushroom island (mooshrooms are his favorite mobs)

racetrack dies a whole awful lot and gets really angry but never rage quits. the guy could lose his full netherite set and go looking for another one 10 minutes later. he's also usually the one getting into fights & starting them. he would probably start village raids on purpose just to fuck around. also he builds xp farms whenever he finds a spawner. his favorite biome is dark forest (he always manages to find a woodland mansion and make it his home)

spot is a natural speedrunner. always finds diamonds the quickest, then goes right to nether, gets some blaze rods, gets to the end, kills the dragon. only then he starts chilling. chilling being getting every single achievement in the game. also, he probably finds base inspo on pinterest and it's a lot of aesthetics mashed together into one. his favorite biome is the crimson forest in the nether

katherine is a genius with redstone. she can do pretty much anything, even one of those moving houses, and for that reason alone her bases are always awesome as fuck with automatic doors and contraptions and whatnot. also she's obsessed with "hiding" her bases, like that old trick with entrance behind a painting or a button disguised as a rock or water under lava. she's a secret girl. her favorite biome is lush caves or coral reef

blink loves to fuck with others. he griefs and steals and rearranges your chests and he loves when the guys get mad at him. sometimes he's nice when you ask him to leave you alone. he also somehow is literally loaded, has an ender chest absolutely chokfull of diamonds and netherite and good enchantment books, and he's willing to trade, but he isn't cheap. he collects the music discs. his favorite biome is mountains

mush doesn't like playing survival, so the guys always turn on cheats just so he can have fun. he never cheats or exploits, he just loves building elaborate silly things like giant frogs or skyscrapers out of emerald blocks. if he does play survival, he mostly just gathers flowers and doesn't bother progressing past iron. he's a simple man with simple needs. always makes it his top priority to tame a wolf and a cat. his favorite biome is savannah

One of my friends' boyfriends messaged me to ask what to buy him for Christmas. I usually stay out of these things, but since the friend receiving the gift is interested in lolita fashion, this was something I was willing to get involved in, at least a little bit. He was really intimidated about buying a gift that was a lolita fashion piece, because there's so many rules and guidelines about what is and isn't lolita. He was doing some research and got overwhelmed, so he asked me.

I asked him, and he said I could put my answer here, so here's a couple of my personal thoughts about how to buy a lolita-themed present for someone, when you don't know anything about lolita fashion.

The mandatory step 1, don't get anything sexy. That's not what this is about. You want to get someone a sexy present, that's your business, but if you're buying someone a piece of lolita fashion, it should absolutely not be a sexy gift.

Part 2, think about the person you're buying for. A good gift isn't just one that's useful, but one that shows that you put a lot of care and thought into the selection of the gift. If you're not sure if you're "doing lolita properly" with the gift, you can absolutely make up for that by showing that you selected the gift specifically for them. In the case of my friend's partner, my friend is SUPER FUCKING INTO MUSHROOMS. Like. All kinds of mushrooms. Finding a blouse that's not totally lolita, but is usable in lolita, that has mushrooms on it? Going to be worn way more than a textbook perfect lolita blouse in a style that Friend doesn't really like.

Part 3, there's a lot of rules and elements of lolita fashion that are really hard to understand without a little research, or maybe a lot of research. Instead of trying to understand all of lolita fashion from an outsider's viewpoint, try just understanding the style of the person you're buying for. If you want to do some research, look at what they like and then look at lolita substyles that look like that. What are things you see a lot of? Can you work that into a gift? If all that research is overwhelming, just move on. I firmly believe that giving a gift isn't about getting someone the most perfect thing ever, but about getting them access to something that they want while tailoring it to be something that they'll also care about.

Part 4, the lolita fashion scene has a huge secondhand and trading market. This means that, if you have the kind of relationship with someone where you know that they won't worry about offending you if they sell or trade part of a gift away (and I know that my friend and his boyfriend have that relationship), getting literally anything from a mainstream lolita brand becomes the EGL equivalent of getting a gift card. You can find a headbow or a purse or wrist cuffs that you think will work, and if your inexperience with lolita gets something that's absolutely not their style, it just kind of becomes our form of currency. It can easily be exchanged for something that is the receiver's taste, because used items in lolita fashion do not lose value the same way they do in other fashions. I know that not everyone would feel okay trading a gift away, but if you're getting a gift for someone you know, you'll probably know if that's okay with them. Attaching to it something that can be kept even if the other part is traded or sold, like a really nice card or a cute key chain or something, it can make them feel less bad about selling it or trading it, because they still get to keep part of the gift.

Part 5, there's a lot of things that can capture lolita fashion aesthetic without being actual lolita fashion pieces. Like, fucking put lace on literally any desk supply and we'll eat that shit up. Glue some lace on a stapler. Fucking genius. Get the BlueRay of Kamikaze Girls. Those fucking placemats that look like lace but they're plastic. Those things are cool. Like look, we just fucking love putting lace on shit. Glue some lace on shit. But no, seriously, things that feel like something and old victorian dollhouse would have in it. Grow some mushrooms in an old teapot or something, he'll go bonkers for that and I don't know enough about mushrooms to know if it's possible, but that kind of shit.

Part 6, it's kind of hard to look at all of lolita fashion, follow all the guidelines, and come up with an understanding of what is good and what is bad. It is not, however, all that difficult to find a place online that sells nice, restylable wigs. Wigs are a huge thing in lolita fashion for wearers of all genders, especially for people with short hair or who don't want to have bangs full time. If you get a wig that can be restyled, then even if it's not perfect right out of the box, they can still use it for a lot of different coords. Wigs with long bangs in the front are usually intended for the final wearer to cut them to suit their face, anyway. I'm not allowed to tell you to just buy him something but literally just buy him a nice shoulder-length wig off Arda. If you want to be fancy, get a headbow or some wrist cuffs off Wunderwelt too. Maybe tape some lace onto a spoon and grow mushrooms on that and give him that too.

Part 7, make sure to do date night or an event where they can wear lolita fashion. Getting a chance to spend time with you in their favorite fashion is a great gift. You can stick a date night coupon in the nice card you give and staple it to a mushroom with your lace-covered stapler.

Anyway, dear 20dollarlolita readers, I hope you've enjoyed my opinions on how to buy a lolita gift, as well as a glimpse into what it's like to be my IRL friend and ask me for advice. seriously i've never met someone more into mushrooms than this dude. dude fucking loves mushrooms.
