SEASON 1 PART 3 (Episodes 17-24)

If you’re new here I’ve recently been reliving the best/worst era of my life and using Lizzie McGuire, the series, to guide me through that journey. 

Now, because arguably aside from Gordo and he and Lizzie’s love story of the century, my favorite part of that show was the iconic 2000s preteen fashion, I have taken on the enormous task of picking a best look for each and every episode and informing the public of my findings.

Come judge the iconic looks of Lizzie and her friends with me!

S1:E17 SIBLING BONDS

Best look of this episode I’m giving to Miranda. 

Miranda always comes through with the somewhat more muted, more casual looks. This particular look is great in my opinion.

It’s this cool long sleeve graphic tee that says something about roller derby. I’m biased because I used to freaking love graphic tees as a preteen/young teen.

AND Miranda pairs it with a camo headband. This is working for me. 

It reminds me of something I would’ve worn in middle school or rather imagined myself wearing and then chickened out cause I was worried it was too edgy or try hard of me. SIGH. Youth really is wasted on the young.

Best look of the episode goes to Miranda. 

None of the looks in this episode were necessarily wowing me but Miranda takes this one, if for no other reason, for her crochet patchwork style sweater. It’s cute, I want it.

The color scheme choices in this show never cease to amaze, but I’m into it.

Best look of this episode goes to Lizzie. 

She has this cute kinda basic look that she accessories with a red snakeskin triangle headband. This is so cool and edgy for 2001. I would’ve been so jealous if I saw a girl in middle school wearing this. 

I mean the outfit is good enough and then about a quarter of a way through the episode she adds this brown leather jacket. Like yes. 100% yes. So good. This jacket made it even better.

S1:E20 EDUCATING ETHAN

Best look of the episode is going to Miranda. 

I don’t know what this look is or what the hell she’s doing here but I like it. This girl is all about the crocheted pieces of clothing but this one is so strange, I really love it.

Also, I don’t know what possessed her to choose this hat but it is really pulling this look together in my opinion. 

It’s funky, it’s unique, it wins this episode for me.

S1:E21 LIZZIE STRIKES OUT

Best look of the episode is going to Miranda yet again. 

There is something with Miranda and knits. This cardigan is great, paired with these plaid pants and THIS BERET.

I used to wear these beret style hats sooo much in high school and my first year of college. I always wore them like slung back though (not straight up like Miranda’s). I wore these hats paired with band tees in North Carolina, where it was 85 degrees and humid at all times. Ahhh the memories. 

Anyways, Miranda killed this. This look is cool af.

Best look of this episode goes to Lizzie.

This was like my dream outfit in 2001 to be honest. 

Just even the top in and of itself. This top is in the color that I wanted everything I owned to be in 2001. I painted my bedroom something close to this color so I am not exaggerating when I say that. 

Anyways, everything down to the bag she pairs with this look is working for me. For some reason I thought this skirt was like a leopard print but it’s actually just like a swirly design. It would’ve been better if it was leopard but oh well, we can’t win them all.

DFP Actors August: Oliver Driver

NZ actors tend to end up in a lot of the same shows over the years it seems. I have a lot of fun spotting familiar faces, so I thought this would be a fun and silly little project, seeing which actors have repeatedly been in things that Deano was also in (not necessarily alongside). Just a bit of trivia. Enjoy!

Shortland Street (1996/1999)

Dean played Nurse Harry Martin in 1996. Oliver played Nurse Mike Galloway in 1999.

Snakeskin (2001)

Dean played Johnny. Oliver played Speed.

I bought this on ebay but I still haven't watched it, haha.

Serial Killers (2004)

Dean played Andrew, one of the actors in 'Heart of Hearts'. Oliver played Matt, one of the writers for 'Heart of Hearts'.

This is such a funny show. You can watch it on NZonscreen. I actually really like both of their characters. Actually, most of the characters are really enjoyable I'd say.

The Almighty Johnsons (2011-2013/2012)

Dean played Anders Johnson, one of the main characters. Oliver played Eggther in S2E9 & S2E10, a Giant who was sent to kill someone but ultimately ends up reasoned with. Very cute plot wrap up actually.

This Day In Music: 22 Nov 1997

On this day in 1997, Australian singer Michael Hutchence is found dead.

INXS singer Michael Hutchence was discovered dead in his hotel suite in Sydney. He was 37 at the time. Hutchence’s body was discovered naked behind the door to his room at 11:50 a.m. He had apparently hanged himself with his own belt, and the buckle had come undone, leaving his body kneeling on the floor and facing the door. There was no forensic or other evidence to support the suggestion that his death was the result of an act of auto eroticism.

Hutchence co-founded the rock band INXS, which sold over 75 million records worldwide and was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2001. He was the lead singer and lyricist of INXS from 1977 until his death.

In August 1992, Helena Christensen and Hutchence were riding their bikes at night on a street in Copenhagen when he refused to move for a taxi. The taxi driver then assaulted him, causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on the roadway. Hutchence suffered a fractured skull in the altercation. Hutchence did not immediately seek medical assistance for the injury, instead waiting several days before seeing a doctor. As a result, his fractured skull left him with an almost complete loss of the sense of smell and significant loss of taste. This injury led to periods of depression and increased levels of aggression.

Hutchence’s body was discovered by a hotel maid at 11:50 am. Police reported that Hutchence was found “in a kneeling position facing the door. He had used his snakeskin belt to tie a knot on the automatic door closure at the top of the door, and had strained his head forward into the loop so hard that the buckle had broken.”

On 6 February 1998, after an autopsy and coronial inquest, New South Wales State Coroner, Derrick Hand, presented his report. The report ruled that Hutchence’s death was suicide while depressed and under the influence of alcohol and other drugs. “An analysis report of Hutchence’s blood [indicated] the presence of alcohol, cocaine, Prozac and prescription drugs.” In producing his coroner’s report, Hand had specifically considered the suggestions of accidental death (coupled with the fact that Hutchence left no suicide note), but had discounted them based on substantial evidence presented to the contrary.

INXS briefly performed as The Vegetables, singing “We Are the Vegetables”.

They regularly supported hard rockers Midnight Oil on the pub rock circuit, and were renamed as INXS in 1979. Their first performance under the new name was on 1 September at the Oceanview Hotel in Toukley. In May 1980, the group released their first single, “Simple Simon”/”We Are the Vegetables” which was followed by the debut album INXS in October. Their first Top 40 Australian hit on the Kent Music Report Singles Chart, “Just Keep Walking”, was released in September 1980.

Hutchence became the main spokesperson for the band. He co-wrote almost all of INXS’s songs with Andrew Farriss.

INXS released Kick in October 1987, and the album provided the band with worldwide popularity. Kick peaked at Number 1 in Australia, Number 3 on the US Billboard 200 and Number 9 in UK. The band’s most successful studio album, Kick has been certified six times platinum by the RIAA and spawned four US top 10 singles (“New Sensation”, “Never Tear Us Apart”, “Devil Inside” and “Need You Tonight”, the last of which reached the top of the US Billboard singles charts).

In September 1988, the band swept the MTV Video Music Awards with the video for “Need You Tonight/Mediate” winning in five categories.

In 1990, INXS released X, which spawned more international hits such as “Suicide Blonde” and “Disappear” (both Top 10 in the US).

The taxi driver then assaulted him, causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on the roadway. Hutchence suffered a fractured skull in the altercation. Hutchence did not immediately seek medical assistance for the injury, instead waiting several days before seeing a doctor. As a result, his fractured skull left him with an almost complete loss of the sense of smell and significant loss of taste. This injury led to periods of depression and increased levels of aggression.

Hutchence’s body was discovered by a hotel maid at 11:50 am. Police reported that Hutchence was found “in a kneeling position facing the door. He had used his snakeskin belt to tie a knot on the automatic door closure at the top of the door, and had strained his head forward into the loop so hard that the buckle had broken.”

On 6 February 1998, after an autopsy and coronial inquest, New South Wales State Coroner, Derrick Hand, presented his report. The report ruled that Hutchence’s death was suicide while depressed and under the influence of alcohol and other drugs. “An analysis report of Hutchence’s blood [indicated] the presence of alcohol, cocaine, Prozac and prescription drugs.” In producing his coroner’s report, Hand had specifically considered the suggestions of accidental death (coupled with the fact that Hutchence left no suicide note), but had discounted them based on substantial evidence presented to the contrary.
