lol weird night tonight, there's usually a trad session down the pub so i sat straight down with the other musicians and it turned out they were an american band passing through so it was more of a blues/folk/jazz session but also i'm not sure they totally expected it to be a session rather than a performance? so that could've been really embarrassing for me to just assume since every other night is a session and i play every night so I got used to not asking before i join in (most of the local musicians know me pretty well by this point anyway, it's been a few years of joining them in the summer). another musician came along a few minutes later and was like "is it open? can i join?" and they said yes, although she didn't stay all that long, so i think it was okay... and they seemed genuinely pleased to have me with them and insisted on taking a selfie with me later in the night and said thanks a bunch of times for joining them. but. even though they were pleased there was a vague undercurrent of surprise that WILL have me retrospectively anxious about whether they initially thought I was really weird to just sit down with them and get my instrument out lmao
