I've been thinking a lot about dancing as a form of possession and keeping, when they dance, to us, it's a physical melody of two, an abstract form of intimacy, to them it's also a way to get a message across.
Dancing in the way that HyunA's is Luka's and only Luka's to have, dancing in the way that Till is Ivan's to want and keep close, dancing in the way that Sua and her memory is Mizi's to keep and hold for her eternity

what is the theory that ivan manipulated the event where till and mizi met the wagyein?
It's not a theory, actually! It's confirmed that Ivan orchestrated the whole event. The true reason as to why however is still unknown. The information provides more context to this scene, though:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During the earlier times of ALNST the most rational explanation for this scene was that Till ran after a flower crown (presumably Mizi's) and Ivan followed him in out of curiosity. Now we know that Ivan was conveniently just standing there because he was waiting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Side note, I find it heartbreaking (and maybe a little funny, sorry) that Till most likely didn't notice Ivan in this scene. That's just like him, isn't it. Always too busy running after Mizi while Ivan trails behind, an ever-present shadow.
I'm not sure how Ivan manipulated the circumstances for both of them to end up there, but it is confirmed that everything was intentional. What strikes me most is how they describe this particular scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can't copy down what they said word-for-word (Patreon info), but they described Ivan watching "creepily" as Till and Mizi are faced with danger. We know that Ivan was familiar with the Cerberus wagyein beforehand, enough to touch its teeth and even to rest himself inside its maw. To Ivan, the wagyein is not dangerous, but to Till and Mizi, it could be. Ivan prepared the wagyein, led them there, and watched "creepily" from afar as Till fell on his knees, seemingly injured.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The closest I can get to making sense of Ivan's "scheme" is that he wanted to see how other children would react in a dangerous situation. Ivan's always been an observer, after all, and he's learned to survive by copying the more "normal" behaviors of his peers. This situation occured when Ivan was still young and had not yet developed his more charming mask, so perhaps he staged this encounter to study a situational response, to learn and mimic the emotion of fear. And what better subjects for the experiment than two of the most expressive and reactive humans of their batch? It helps that he was already fixated on Till beforehand, too. I think Ivan became irreversibly obssessed after this incident, especially since it's framed as a turning point in Ivan's life, comparing Till to the stars.
This is just my attempt at an interpretation, though. It could very well be for another reason. He most likely chose Till and Mizi specifically for personal reasons, not just for reaction. I'm still not sure on the purpose behind the whole thing.
The team wanted to capture Ivan's "dark emotions" through the shot of his stalking, which could relate to his more sinister intentions. His gaze can be read in a few different ways, though. Curiosity, interest, fear, etc. Maybe that's why they decided to redraw the shot in ROUND 6.
Tumblr media
I think this better sells the feeling they were trying to convey.
#ivan u fucked up little guy.#also okay i just wanna clear this up#i know i make a lot of posts about ivans darker side and his more problematic traits#but this isn't me trying to villainize him or reduce him down to “toxic yaoi”#I HOPE YOU GUYS KNOW ALL MY TOXIC YAOI POSTS ARE LIGHTHEARTED.#i just want to clarify that ivan was always intended to be a darker and complicated character. even since his debut in round 3#the way i refer to ivan (“twisted” “creepy” “obssessive” etc) are literally the direct words used by q and v themselves to describe him#but despite that id like to emphasize that i don't see ivan as a villain or a completely bad person. hes complicated#there is no normalcy in this world they are living in. none of the characters know what being truly normal is#this isn't me condoning his actions#but it has to be acknowledged that alnst is fucked up in nature. we can't expect perfect relationships from people who are born to die#plus ivan has a lot more layers past the “dark” parts. he's constantly battling himself and his desires#especially at the end of round 6 where he performs a myriad of conflicting actions (kiss strangle peck smile)#thanks to the r6 production notes we now know that ivan was going through a rapid internal conflict#“sure and unsure at the same time”#there is sooo much to ivan. his low self-esteem. his desire and possessiveness despite knowing till will never love him#his VEHEMENT insistence that till will never love him vs his desperate persistence in trying anyway#uh i need to shut up i think#anyways sorry. just wanted to clarify my thoughts on him in case people think im. yk.#in short. hes a fucked up little freak and he fascinates me. this poor tragic child. i love him.#SORRY I GOT CARRIED AWAY#alnst#alien stage#alien stage ivan#alnst ivan#asks

It was probably already brought up by someone else, but Luka has a scar on his shoulder?
Tumblr media
This is the only frame where angle allows to see this part of his body.
Tumblr media
I'm assuming he got injured right before this scene (where he's clearly bleeding out) occurred.
I won't attach the images that are on the more graphic side, but:
Tumblr media
Close-up of Hyun Woo's injuries shows that his left arm is heavily bruised; that's also true for his ear, face and neck on the same side. It doesn't look like it was caused by landing, but it's also unlikely that Luka hit him, because:
Tumblr media
If my assumption is right and he got stabbed (?) before Hyun Woo fell - there wasn't much he could do with his trembling arm. Interestingly enough, we don't get to see Hyuna's hands.
Tumblr media
But her clothes are clean and there's no bruising, so she probably wasn't there for the whole debacle. I mean... if she was, she would've probably prevented it, since she feels protective of Luka and all
Tumblr media
Exhibit A
There's no exhibit B, I just wanted to say that I don't think Luka killed Hyun Woo, nor do I think that Hyuna hates/blames him for what happened.

Marxism in Alien Stage, The reason why I'm barely sane
wow what a title, apologise in advance - this will be a wall of yap
edit: so I was gonna reply to another post but this ended up being wayyy too long so I thought it would be better to make a separate post
THIS ONE IS FOR YOU <333 @sakinyeh YOUR POST HYPED ME UP SO MUCH I COULDN'T SHUT UP ANY MORE
@mixisua YOUR GETTING FED TODAY!!!!
warning: this is a bunch of sociology yap specifically about Marxism and the different ways it could be interpreted in the alien stage. It sort of adding onto this post so go check that out first if you haven't already! very peak with way more in depth ideas than this post lol
Apologise in advance, this is going to be horrific to read bc I have never done this before, yes I am very barely sane :D
------------------------------ ->
First and foremost, I absolutely LOVE the idea that it's seen as honourable to die in the alien stage. The aliens have truly created the perfect propaganda and we have seen time and time again how much this is sold, processed and packaged as a dream for these human pets (think of all the human children in the audiences of the rounds, or baby Till looking over his mother's shoulder - what an absolute cutie ahsgdsjds). This is like the American Dream of the Alien Stage (omg nooo don't reach for that green light) which has been so deeply engraved as their only form of survival and purpose. This idea, coined by Althusser, is called the Ideological State Apparatus which creates a 'False consciousness' to make it feel like they have a choice in the game. The not so fun thing about this is that it plays 2 roles 1. it makes people feel like they have a choice (even though they've been brainwashed from their primary socialisation) and 2. since they feel like they've taken this 'choice' they are essentially the only one they can blame for their situation JUST LIKE OUR GIRL MIZI. You can really see this through the way that the previous comic of 'the true mizi' that seems to have manifested as a result of her guilt and survivor's trauma (that's just how I read it tho so idk its all just a theory I guess AN ALIEN STAGE THEORY).
What's interesting about 'true mizi' imo is that she's in her round 1 outfit. She isn't greeted by a child-like self or a child-like Sua - she is greeted by the Sua on stage and the Mizi she needs to be to survive. This could mean that her alter ego wasn't something that existed prior to the stage, though she had shown her masking her emotions - this only truly solidified this form after round 1 and when she understood what it really meant to be lose a person, be powerless and alone. The brutality of the stage forced her to mentally separate herself from her manufactured identity for the stage that is idolised by the Seygein. The brutality of the stage versus her new understanding of warmth and love (@sakinyeh you cooked so hard man, gourmet meal you've just fed me). This idea links to another core concept of Marxism 'alienation'. The proletariat or underclass (or in this case, the human pets) are used as factors of production, making their lives revolve around their purpose as a worker or 'pet performer,' so much so that they start to feel disillusioned from the products of their labour (or in this case, their identity). This obviously has damaging consequences on their sense of self since they feel the human need for connection but must constantly attempt to appeal to the 'alien gaze' in order to survive (woah has this just become a feminist reading..?!?!? /j but we love women). And so, the Seygein impose what neo Marxist Gramsci calls 'hegemony' -> the complete brainwashing of the proletariat to make the ruling class ideology seem like 'common sense'.
Sua + Ivan -> attempt to play the game/ give into the system, while holding onto their respective gods, ultimately sacrificing themselves for them which puts on the perfect show for the aliens.
Luka -> wholeheartedly submits to the stage and yet despite seeming to have reached the top, he feels no joy nor safety, not even autonomy, being stifled and crushed' by the media and the aliens regardless (replaying him kissing hyuna's poster in my mind; poor guy lowkey lost his marbles even more)
Till -> shows himself to rebel against the seygein's at the start but ultimately gives in when he loses his will to continue in r6 and (possibly?) dies at the end of r7 GUYS I KNOW, I WANT HIM TO BE ALIVE TOO BUT HE'S BEEN IN THE SAME DEAD POSITION FOR SO LONG IDK IF HES GONNA MAKE IT- *gets shot 89-70 times although he does rebel, he is still ultimately trapped as a result of playing their game.
Now Hyuna and Mizi are slightly different. While the others lost while playing the game, they played Karl Marx's favourite move - overthrow the system.
[ the constellation of the communist manifesto gifts 3 coins at the efforts of Hyuna and Mizi ]
One reason why you could argue that Hyuna was more free and happier than the rest of them could be how she was free from the stage itself - choosing to overthrow the system instead of playing by its rules could be seen as HOW she was the only one who was able to break the cycle 🎶 I'll create a fantasy in this crazy world And change it all, I'm going all-in 🎶
However, she still ends up dying in the end, without very much overt liberation from the cycle, due to one thing her love, be it romantic or whatever, for Luka. You see while she very successfully rallies against the seygein, she ends up being drawn right back to the thing that the aliens have been exploiting over them, human connection.
This comes to my most favourite and sometimes overlooked detail of the alien stage that fascinates me so SO much, The Anakt Garden. You see, many structural sociologists argue that the superstructures in society (Family, School, Media, Religion, etc) play a HUGE role in socialising and dictating the way society acts - for our fellow Marxists like Althusser and Karly, school and education maintains capitalism and the class structure (I feel like the CIA might be onto me uhhhh). The way that the Anakt Garden acts as a simulation (fake trees, the lack of organic nature, even the leaves AT THE VERY START of r1 glitching out) showcases the artificial realty that has been created by the Seygein that further perpetuates their own ideology and goals (ie, human singing machines are fun). But what isn't manufactured is the pure and unaltered intensity and yearning for human connection by the children, but even this is exploited and manipulated. The children are allowed to form connections and friendships with each other, which ultimately inhibits the people from thinking or wanting to escape. AND WHATS WORSE is that we KNOW that these memories held by Mizi, Sua, Ivan, Till, Hyuna, Hyunwoo and Luka were the most impactful and important memories they have had. They don't just see one person as their god BUT THE ENTIRETY OF THE ANAKT GARDEN AS A CONCEPT. and this isn't even just amongst the children, Io prays to the Anakt Garden, like its some sort of god or being to worship, to keep Till safe. Till refuses to leave with Ivan because the Anakt Garden is where Mizi still stays. and now, we see that the Anakt Garden was chosen by Mizi to allow her to gain back some feeling of control. I could go on and on about how the Anakt Garden is the most underrated and sociologically fascinating world concept by Vivinos and Qmeng but what I wish to leave you with is this scene of Top 3 1:16 to 1:45 which just sums up to me just how crazy the garden is. And this isn't even beginning to scratch the surface of how they're systematically preparing to reproduce even better genetically modified contestants (CLONING THEORY WHEN GANG *gets dragged away).
What really stuck out for me was your mention of how Mizi and the gang pick out certain traits to hold onto (WHICH IS A FREAKING GENIUS POINT I NEVER THOUGHT OF) and how their love is really just them worshipping small parts of others BUT NEVER FULLY UNDERSTANDING EACH OTHER. And who else do we see doing this? THE SEGYEIN WHEN THEY'RE COMMODIFYING THE PARTICIPANTS (ding ding ding we have a winner)
this is in fact another way the false consciousness is maintained and through their own objectification of each other, they seem to adopt the very same qualities that the seygein are -> leading to hegemony.
--------------------------------- <-
uhhh yeah I think thats the end of my tangent, tune in next time for when i actually talk about alien stage BAHAHHAHAHAH /hj this took 4 days to write and think about i think I'll just leave it to the pros sob
I might add pictures if i'm feeling up to it lol

i feel shy talking here when i dont have anything worth sharing but i cant help feeling like ive said things in the tags that could be brought up in court
#im joking#i think i just get embarrassed saying smth that most ppl can see out in the open. its like when prey animals are grazing in a pasture#and then they hear a twig snap yk. im like that. but talking in the tags is more comfortable because it just feels more.. hidden?? quiet???#its kind of like how i prefer responding thru asks than DMs.. idk if it has something to do with space or less pressure#i also use these as an excuse to ramble a little abt recent events so. ive worked a little bit on shuffle and prestos backstories ^_^#i was thinking abt giving them a shared past where they knew each other as kids and forgot but i also though hmm.. idk if it would drive th#story i want bc i think itd be better if they bonded over similar experiences instead of the fact that they knew each other before. i get#that reconnecting and reconciling your idea of someone now and then is a good concept but id have to think abt it.. i dont want it to feel#like they owe each other to be friends again just bc they were as kids. ive experienced that a lot and all it did was make me feel guilty#so i think id want to write it as u can be friends with someone who had similar experiences and make u wish you knew each other then#i also know theyd hate each other but idk HOW. i suck at writing conflict so idk if theyd try to make each other eat glass and why#idk if itll ever come up but id also like to see if theres a way i could rationalize why they have animal ears.. normally i say aliens#but ive had an idea for a species and background for that too. although its very abstract and it probably has a lot of holes#smth abt peoples souls attaching themselves to smth they identify with.. although i dont know to what extent like if it can#be called a sona or if it can even be smth mythical like a unicorn or god itself.. its very weird rn#yapping#oc talk

I get a little crayz seeing this specific shot of Ivan...Ivan putting on a mask makes me crazy. It's the way his expression doesn't reach his eyes, the lack of sincerity in his smile.
But in the second image, he looks so annoyed he can barely care to school his expression and you can SEE the grimace in his eyes (EYE LINES!!!). There's such a stark difference in the persona he puts out there for people perceive him as vs how he naturally is gthybwsdgyc__(I need to see more of Ivan's natural expressions)

the dark evil wizards have afflicted me with a hyperspecific interpretation of killuas "moral conflict" which leaves a lot of fan content that tries to engage with it unsatisfying. a wicked and foul hex indeed
#sometimes i feel mean for it too bc like on the surface whenever i try to articulate it. it feels like a Less Charitable reading of him#yk#but like im just being fr. i think people think killua gaf abt murder more than he rlly does. its why i cant get into the 99 version of him#& when i say that i mean the whole. feeling megaguilt over killing ppl and thinking Thats the reason why hes a terrible person#like thats his previous job. may as well have been a 9-5 he dont care. the self-hatred comes from ingroup trait prescription#the zoldycks manipulation is mostly about isolation & control so a lotta killuas issues are with social categorization and feeling powerful#at least to me yk its wayyy more about like. how the outgroup perceives him. more than any moral gripe with killing#he hates the alienation it makes him feel small and out of control. the only way he knew how to regain power was thru violence#and he re-encounters this issue when the needle starts acting up in front of ppl he cant just step on & violence stops even being an Option#most of killuas growth is learning that there are Other Options. other things that can & will make him feel better & wont get him shunned#likeeee this is most of why he likes gon so much at first. bc gon dont rlly gaf in a way that makes him part of the defined outgroup either#therefore he was super accessible to killua when he hadnt yet understood that making friends kinda means hes gonna have to conform a little#very little kid way of thinking. which works out cuz hes 11 lmfao#heliichats

I can’t remember where I heard this but I’ve heard some historians say that Anne wasn’t actually very politically savvy and the evidence they gave was the way she alienated people. Is this true? I mean, I know she definitely had political opinions but was she actually a good politician?
I mean, it's sort of a counterfactual, right? There's also a lot of misogyny at play here with that opinion, imho. I say this because, you know, if the judgement is that those that fall victim to political coups by reason of their downfall were never skilled politicians, then why is this primarily said of AB, but never Wolsey or Cromwell?
Also, I mean, context matters, right? Does it really matter, or speak to lack of political skill, that she 'alienated' Wolsey once Wolsey became, relatively, powerless? I suppose it does if you're of the Mantelite persuasion that Cromwell's support of AB as Queen was always superficial, some long-con of long-simmering resentment about her treatment of Wolsey. Anne also managed to win members of Wolsey's household to her side, including Richard Page, who was her ally for the rest of her tenure (her political, career...? ykwim). On the other hand, Cromwell, but there are less notable examples of this ilk, too, such as ...well, now I can't remember his name, but I cited him in another ask, I'll look for him later, but, there's another man from Wolsey's household that became Anne's ally, but later turned once she became Queen, and became a supporter of the Princess Mary (to be edited, linked here, later). So, that is to say, yes, she sometimes alienated people, even those that had previously allied themselves to her, I believe Francis Bryan is another example (I think there was some dispute with her brother between them, which couldn't have helped matters).
There's also like, this certain, how to say this...symmetry when it comes to the amount of influence someone in high title had versus the amount of people they alienated, if that makes sense? The Boleyns were hated for their rise, for many causes, among them that every favour which went to them wasn't granted towards someone else, because it was their allies and favorites that were being promoted, which fueled resentment of those that felt left in the cold. This was similar to the Woodvilles' rise and consolidation of power in the previous century. Power is not limitless power, either, so, it's not feasible to grant every favor that every potential ally asks for... yk, the example that's often cited in arguments for her lack of political savvy is the contentious relationship with one of the few Dukes in the realm, also her uncle. There is not actually an entire consensus on whether or not this relationship was that way, though? I believe Warnicke and Hoak have argued otherwise, that Chapuys sort of misunderstood their dynamic, that they were actually allies, as evidenced by her involvement in the marriage of his son to Frances de Vere, his daughter to Henry Fitzroy, that the report of the Duke being the one to report news of Henry VIII's accident to her in Jan 1536 actually denotes their confidence and even a close relationship.
Maybe there is an argument to be made that she could have been more conciliatory towards her opposition in court, and outside (her stepdaughter, and stepson, apparently Fox&Guy have recently argued), and, I mean...maybe? But also, to give favor to those opposed to reform would have alienated her allies that were reformers. There wasn't any feasible way for her to win over everyone, and there were always going to be those who were implacably opposed to her, and I believe she clocked them. I don't think it would have been 'politically savvy' to spend much of her political capital on appeasing them, if that makes sense. I think the amount which she expended (the offers to her stepdaugher, for example) was actually pretty sound.
There's also just, like, generally speaking, a misunderstanding of the sources which are cited for this argument. One example which comes to mind is the oft-cited 'petty' nature of the choice of Gertrude Courtenay as godmother to Princess Elizabeth. And like, it's not untrue that she was one of the godmothers, and it's probably not even untrue that this was a petty choice (although to claim this alone was enough to cause her enmity and later involvement in the ousting of the Boleyns from power would be...facile, at best), but she's usually the only one mentioned in pop history. Another godmother chosen was Agnes Howard (Tilney), the Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, who also carried Queen Anne's train (it was also Howards doing this, the other was Mary Howard, and Anne's final offer to her stepdaughter included the promise that she would not have to carry her train in her invitation to court), was Anne's step-grandmother and seems to have been her supporter. Margaret Bryan has been cited as another example of Anne's faux pas, petty jaundice, and further alienation of her stepdaugher's supporters, in her choice of her as governess for Princess Elizabeth's household, since she had previously been Mary's. Oft elided is that Lady Bryan was also Anne's half-aunt, and thus Elizabeth's great-aunt, and that wanting her daughter in the care of experienced and trusted relatives seems fairly reasonable and understandable.
(Yeah, there's like, much that's characterized as 'petty' and 'alienating' that was at the least Henry's choice, as well, even if it there's great likelihood it was influenced by Anne? Princess Elizabeth's household was much larger in retinue and much higher in cost than her sister's had ever been, even when in Ludlow, as part of the politics of ostentation, her train took circuitous routes to better show the pomp and proclaim her title to the people... the former, at least, could only create a larger network of patronage and loyalty, though, and the latter seems a better alternative than any degree of subtlety, which would not telegraph the upcoming Act of Parliament affirming Elizabeth heiress, so...even if the impetus for all the above was the result of the push from her mother, I mean, I don't find any of the above to 'lack' political savvy)
There's also been a misread of Henry's remark at Anne's banquet prior to her first appearance as Queen, and the deliberate invitation of the Duchess of Norfolk (COA's ally, Thomas Howard the Duke of Norfolk's wife, and Anne's inveterate enemy) there, despite knowing her distaste for her royal niece, as both barbs that alienated her even further, and maybe even led to her husband's rancor towards his niece as well (alternately, she invited her because she knew they hated each other and wanted to piss them both off, or, she was invited because she wanted to lord over her new status, as she'd done on a previous occasion, some insult paid via her aunt being either farther behind in the train than she should have been according to rank or seated in a lower-ranking place than her niece, before Anne was Queen). However, the woman invited and in attendance, who Henry loudly (and probably drunkenly) proclaimed Anne's 'fine dowry' towards, was actually again (or, previously), Agnes Howard, the Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, so this demonstrates a continuity of favor, not pettiness towards an enemy.
Anyway, that's my take. I might one day post some master-list of Boleyn alliances from the period of 1528- , because my general impression is that her network of allegiances and support has been underestimated and overshadowed by the court gossip that Chapuys has reported, which doesn't even seem to be given its due parsing as far as this claim, either (for example, it seems likeliest that the identity of the man whom Anne berated for sending Henry's linen to COA so that she could make shirts from it was actually Henry Norris, "one of the principal gentlemen of the bedchamber", given that it was the Groom of the Stool who was responsible for the King's linen and shirts, so, like...Norris might have been upset and even angry about being publically berated in that manner, but was certainly not forever alienated by it, and remained a staunch Boleyn ally for the rest of his own career, regardless...so, I don't think Anne alienated most of her supporters/friends, I think at times her temper got the best of her, but she probably usually mended fences and apologized once she cooled off, such as in the case of Bridget Wingfield).
#anon#she's often compared unfavorably to her anodyne successor and the praise she received#but yk....see symmetry paragraph#her successor didn't alienate people because she wasn't the push behind any policy#she wasn't the subject of resentment or rancor to the same degree because it was known that her influence was fairly minimal#what's another example...the percys; maybe?#but like again why is she going to expend social capital on her ex and his wife who tried to accuse her of precontract the year before she#was crowned........#he's one of the premiere noblemen of the realm and it seems she either alienated him or his memory of her alienated him towards her#like. he's apparently very offended that she's spoken harshly to the duke of norfolk. which is odd bcus there's not much to suggest#friendship btwn them...so why does he care#he claims according to chapuys that she is going to poison her stepdaughter......#it's hard to gauge why or how she alienated percy personally; tho?#he was in extreme debt to the point that he had to resolve it by making the king his heir#he also (altho this is less mentioned bcus it's seen as less juicy...no ex romance) is apparently very critical of the king and his policie#again according to chapuys; so venting this on anne? venting this by reason of his policy being influenced by her?#but then he is the percy that is the only one that supports the king in the pilgrimage of grace later#so like...what were the policies he was in opposition to? what was his reason to say henry's policies were so unpopular that the people wou#*would likely support an invasion? i do not know.#claiming henry also had a hand in alienating his nobility is not popular.#(the chain is actually percy's physician quoting him to chapuys so they're not the most reliable accounts...#being second-hand hearsay. as it were#there's also like. the matter of time? starkey marks anne's 'reign' as basically 1528- onwards#and the longer you're in a position of power the more people you will piss off just by like. law of averages#there's like a castles crumbling argument narrative that can be constructed#i suppose; that the pressure and the battles borne in every step she rose just made her more and more implacable and thus she alienated#more and more people.......#just by the frustration of waiting ; maybe
