One Piece 1125

Me and some friends like to jokingly call manga "that very apolitical thing from Apolitical Japan" mostly in regards of poking fun to dudebros who are convinced their lack of understanding of Japan as a country while consuming their media is the same as that media having no commentary or the creators of the work having no opinion or politics of their own.

That is to say that, while an old tired thing to say, the manga One Piece has always had been political to a degree. that is to say, Eiichiro Oda, as a person living in Japan, has and always had opinions and politics like all other human beings. which sometimes he intentionally puts into the page, or which show by how he decides to portray certain things (despite writing about Pirates, he likely doesnt support the illegal download of Movies, for example, but it's likely he believes a good ruler is one who sees themselves as equal to the common people, with how often that type of leader comes again and again as the "right" kind of leader).

This is to say that when I say this latest arc of One Piece was very political, it's to say this might be the most clear Oda has been in making a statement with his art.

through a transmission across the world, the characters just had a massive reveal for the series in the way of an allegory for Climate Change: the world is going to sink. and this is not a natural phenomenon, but it's going to be a Man Made disaster carried out by the people who are in charge of this world. As a result, we see those same people in charge reacting to the fact most of the world has learned the truth.

One Vice Admiral, a rank that the series has given an animal motif of being Dogs (government dogs, get it?) asks one of the elders wether or not it's true.

And they are immediatly punished.

That same elder, who failed to stop that transmission, is killed and replaced by the leader of the world. Meanwhile, the Celestial Dragons, who represent the super 1%, have their concern be not with the state of the world, but with the minor inconvinience of not getting to eat as much food as they want. Because the plan was always for them in specific to be safe.

this is as we learn that the effects of these news will be what happens when a major crisis leads to desperation among the common people to survive: War is coming.

i dont have any persona stuff anywhere its my first rodeo. my pinned has an (ongoing, not yet finished) arknights au comic if you like my comics tho! you can tell its a bit older but its in full color (mostly). it does presume more familiarity with arknights and the specific characters involved than failteachers does with persona. BUT you get to see a doggirl with a phd lose her lucrative tech job and get dragged by her ex and im sure some of you would find that entertaining regardless of lore knowledge (her cute fluffy tail! her sullen demeanor! the way everyone hates her for her numerous ethics violations in the name of science!)

that pinned post also has a (ONGOING NOT YET FINISHED...) pirate au rwby fic that demands Comparatively little since it has to adapt the lore it's using to a very different setting (Big Boat.) and also it's about two women in their 40s who have never met in the actual show. my usual fare. repulsively slow slowburn but i did write an E rated spinoff that isnt canon or even about the main couple.........

i’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and i want to hear someone from SPHS’s thoughts.

i know you’ve noticed the “tiktok” fan base- the ones that only watch clips of the show and then say they’re fans. i read one of your posts talking about these types of fans and making blatantly incorrect headcanons. that’s something that bugs me, but another thing that bugs me is the fact i do not believe south park is tiktokable. i’ll use family guy as a comparison for my points.

first of all, compared to family guy, the humor is different, pretty much everything they explained in the cartoon wars two parter explains what i mean, m&t are not fans of interchangeable jokes and are able to give characters emotional progression throughout the episode. that’s one huge factor, i hope you get what i’m trying to imply with that. m&t are passionate about their story telling and it pays off in their episodes. i know not EVERY SINGLE joke follows this, but there are jokes made better by understanding the characters and the circumstance of the episode. the episodes work best in their entirety. (that was difficult to explain so i fear it can be misinterpreted easily)

the characters are another thing i want to mention. i watched the episode TSST with two friends awhile ago, one of which who had never seen an episode and didn’t understand cartmans character. she kept asking questions about him, or said how weird his hitler obsession was. the other friend hadn’t finished south park and said he hated cartmans character and it’s hes one of the bad pieces of the show. i believe even if you don’t like cartman as a personal preference thing, you should at least appreciate him as a character and his placement, it’s hard to understand him (despite us watching an episode that really dives into him, they still didn’t know much about him before). with family guy, one episode is enough to grasp the character, hell, even a single scene is i’d say, while m&t are very good at developing and fleshing out character personalities over time. it’s why they can pull off making sad episodes (like kenny dies and assburgers), heartwarming episodes (like tweek x craig and even bits of episodes like in raisins) all while still being a comedy show. they understand how to make the characters react in a way that can make you feel something while maintaining a good amount of jokes in the episode.

i dont know, theres more i could add but i’m just writing whatever comes to mind first so it might make no sense or it might be wrong. also, i’m by no means an old fan. i’ve rewatched the series quite a few times, watched commentaries, researched through wiki pages and am constantly trying to better my knowledge of the show, but i know i’m not quite there yet and could just be making a mistake GAHAH

No anon, I actually totally get this and agree 100%. SP as a show is not something that works well with out of context clips (and even then, the ones that do work are usually from very early in an episode before the plot fully gets established and stakes as drawn). Until pre s18 when they started soft continuity (and then s19-21s full continuity, after that is a whole other discussion entirely), the shows syndicated nature did make it easier to hop into any episode and watch it in its entirety and enjoy it without much prior knowledge of the show or it's characters. However, even then, you really needed to watch the *whole* episode to get the big picture of it's message.

And I get it, SP full length episodes are not as accessible as they once were. People these days don't know how or aren't willing to pirate things if they don't have the streaming service SP is hosted on, and beyond that, south park used to be free to watch on their website. Like, that's how I ended up catching up on the show when I finally decided to take it all in other than a handful of episodes and scenes I'd seen during my childhood back in 2013. It was all entirely available (save for Super Best Friends, 200 and 201, which I had to go track down on other websites) for free, with ads unless you used an ad blocker, right at your fingertips. And that's how M+T wanted SP to be consumed, because they explicitly noted that they didn't care about making money on streamed episodes, they cared about getting their show out there. (I will have to go find that interview, I know it's somewhere).

But still, regardless of that, you're right. SP is not something that you can consume short form as a brief tiktok video, and that's why I think we have newer fans with such big gaps in knowledge that seem like they would be easy to fill in. It's not that they're being willfully ignorant, they're just being fed a very piecemeal version of the show through social media, which is how we get people thinking Pip is a he//llpa//rk OC (augh!!! dont get me started) instead of realizing this dude was actually in the fucking show, or headcanons that are very easy to contradict with canon itself by watching like 3 episodes. That's not me knocking HCs btw, go wild and do whatever you want, but these people don't even know it's ooc, and that's a little troublesome. I've made some outlandish character decisions in the past but I at least KNEW they were not evidence based.

What that means for the fandom down the road I don't know, and its made a lot of discussion and analysis more shallow-- it's so hard outside of my SPHS friend group to find good breakdowns these days. I'm hoping maybe something will change, but who knows.

I was wondering if you had to pay for the game and all the expansion packs, or if you were able to download it for free? I know there's a post around that shows how to get sims and the expansion packs for free, but the instructions were SUPER confusing. (Also if you want, you can answer this privately if you dont want to talk abt pirating downloading for free on main!)

hi, it's no problem at all! i'm gonna do it here in the ask bc it's easier to navigate

i'm doing this for the anadius repack, having the legal base game (which is now free!) for windows

(i will not link any of the sites bc my last account literally got terminated for doing that 😪)

The basics

Have a .zip file opener, either 7-zip or winRAR (these are both legit, free programs, and quite useful. winRAR has better navigation for me but will bother you with paying, so i recommend 7-zip)

have the sims 4 base game installed, which requires origin too (origin is annoying, make sure to disable it running on start so it doesn't eat up your ram. but it's a legal game adquirer so it will guide you into downloading the sims)

2. Once you have all points complete, go to the site

make an account. i suggest not using your real name/phone gmail account. i havent had a single mail or hack so far but it's always good to be prepared just in case

you register here (alternatively press ctrl+f and search "register", no quotation marks and click on it)

anadius' explanation sounds big but it isn't. first go to the green download link (which you can only see if logged in), download the unlocker v2 from any of the sites

once it's done you'll have to open the zip file and extract the files. you do this in either options, either right-clicking and clicking "extract", or by opening the .zip and selecting all objects then moving them to another place/library (i recommend having a gaming folder ready to put these for easy access)

you'll have this now as a regular folder

in readme are the instructions, which are double-clicking setup and the following the menu

with that you should already have the dlc unlocker installed

recommended: make sure the installer auto-updates, otherwise you'll have to re-install it for every game update

3. Getting the DLC

return to the forum page of the unlocker, scroll down to where it says sims 4. you only have two options, the drive folder and the mirrors. either is safe, however the drive folder is a bit more complicated. i'm going for the mirrors in this tutorial.

go here

select the dlc you want (i recommend starting with only one and a small-sized one so you can make sure it's correctly installed easier)

it's gonna ask you for a human verification clicking on an specific shape

close this

it's a bit annoying bc you have to wait until the download button is ready, then it'll send you to another download button page

this is where you get the file

now open the zip file. you'll see two folders, one that reads the code of the dlc you downloaded (EP__, GP__, SP__, etc) and one that reads _Installer. none of the _Installer files are important, but just in case leave only one in the game files folder

4. finding the game files folder

most common route is (C:) Windows -> Program files x86 > Origin Games > The sims 4

there is a file in the forum for dlc, but it's just a shortcut to the folder. i personally find it unnecessary, but if you don't like navigating through folders then download it

if you don't have any legally bought dlc this folder will be basically empty. here is where you cut and paste the dlc you just downloaded

in this folder you will put every dlc you download, from expansion to kit. this is the only place and it will go directly into your game

5. finals

now you close all the folders and click to start the game as regular. you should get a white sign that says you have the dlc unlocker and it's updated. if it doesn't show at first still go into the game. go to the packs tab and click on any of the thumbnails . it should say you own every one of them. for extra checking you can go to the game and search for any of the deluxe items it unblocked, like the family portrait. but with just doing the dlc tab check is enough for now

! if this doesn't happen, if the game doesn't recognize the dlc unlocker, just close everything and restart the pc !

after this, once you start up the game, every time there's a new dlc it should show you the message before opening the game. and that's all, enjoy the dlc!

issues with this dlc unlocker:

because according to origin you "own" all dlc's it may not let you fully see the items in the main screen menu. if you want to see the items before downloading the pack, instead go search "[dlc name] cas/build mode overview" on the internet

sometimes if you haven't turned off your computer in a long time, the unlocked won't update or won't recognize you have downloaded a new file. to fix this you only go restarts your computer and it works again

far left is an old oc some ppl may recognize, her name is hope loomis! Shes a (lvl 70) witchdoctor, blind, and captain of a pirate crew. shes no longer my main oc but i still love her and her crew :P

Since hes relevant to her ill go out of order and say him now: the one in the middle is lawrence nightingale, part of hope's crew, her best friend, a musketeer. (Hes my main pirate for playing, hes lvl 70) He has a bit of a sour disposition and he and hope argue a lot but they care for each other a lot. I also ship him with kane hehehe

Ok middle left is catalina, like i mentioned earlier. Actually ive posted him before, hes a catalan shapeshifter who likes to pretend to be a human amongst people to troll them mostly teehee :P hes a (lvl 46) witchdoctor in game but in his lore he just knows some magic.

Next to catalina is the aforementioned Mina mitchell, shes a (lvl 65) swashbuckler and an emo girl. I dont have much lore for her to be honest but shes just so cute and awesome. She has spiky short twin pigtails. I think ive posted a drawing of her on this blog before under her tag mina

Middle right (orange) is Maeve, shes part of my new main crew! (The other 2 arent in game) shes a (lvl 7, bc i KEEP REMAKING MY BUCKS) buccaneer. Shes also part fox and from marleybone! shes really cool and awesome and sweet and shes best friends with shannon (leader of her crew).

Right is Stormy Edwards, hes kinda new and also his character looks nothing like his actual design lol other than that hes green. Hes a privateer (lvl 7, again i keep remaking themmmm) and hes EVIL!<3 he also has a toxic gay thing going on with vito (witchdoctor with maeve and shannon) and hes just kinda fucked up :P

34: what are the hardest and easiest parts of the game for you?

OK SOOOOO I love the strategy of it all TBH. It was really hard at first but ive picked it up pretty well i think. The hardest part was figuring out how to do gear correctly and what stats to prioritize, which im probably still not perfect at but i think ive gotten it down now. I also hate ship fighting 😭 But yeah easiest is probably just combat i love it i love the battle system. And to be MORE specific ranged combat is easiest for me.

Rereading the entire Lore Olympus story is my comfort <3 Much like rereading anything or rewatching a show or a movie you notice details that you didn't notice before. It makes you appreciate how much work and detail they put into it.

Much like how I am with grey's anatomy I'm pretty sure I could win a Lore Olympus trivia contest lol. I've re-read it so many times because it's my comfort comic lol.

I guess the point is I noticed a lot of things and sometimes I want to block about it and most of the things I want to blog about requires visualization. Webtoon will not allow you to screenshot or screenrecord. Not even episode 1.

I know why they have it like that and it's for a good reason. I agree, we don't want people pirating it, or posting episodes panel by panel on Facebook, Instagram, and Tumblr for likes. That's WRONG.

Artists/Storytellers/Illustrators/Writers/Content creators who post online get fucked over so many times because people just screenshot or save it and post it for likes and views without even tagging the artist or crediting the artist. I might not be explaining it right but Jenny Jimyu's is a great example. If you haven't heard of Jenny Jinya, she is an artist and is best known for her Loving Reaper comics.

Artists on Webtoon are protected from having their work stolen but Jenny started off on social media and (for example) it would be taken by someone who runs a Facebook page and they would get millions of likes, shares, followers and they wouldn't credit her. If you are popular enough you get paid for views, likes, followers, and stuff like that. I remember that it was so bad that Jenny posted about it multiple times asking people to at the least tag her or give her credit for her work when you take it.

So I know the difference between right and wrong when it comes to this and I would never screenshot an entire episode and post it for the world to see. Being a fan means you DONT do that shit to the people who provide you comfort, right?

Its just I see so many people on here making their commentary and blogging about particular subject WITH PHOTOS.

How do you guys do that?

I know I blogged about a Lore Olympus theory and I provided some photos but I got that from somewhere else. I, myself, didn't obtain it directly from webtoon. I literally had to look for it and do you know how hard it was to do that?

you can ignore this if you want but i saw your reply on some random post saying you dont have a pc or anything to pirate on -- if you have a phone you can use emulators! theres a lot of emulators on mobile. vimm.net is a safe site (use adblocker always of course. mobile firefox has adblock) to get roms for any emulators you are interested in, and i think they also have a page to show you good emulation but im not sure if they show mobile emulators. wish you luck. ive been poor most of my life so i like to help if i can.
