(prev. Anon here). While I cannot say i completely understand your experience (my dads mixed Asian (Indonesian, Java island and another island but my dad doesn't remember which and the family doesn't really talk about th Indonesian heritage) and I inherited curly hair, also the nose and the eyes, I love looking like my grandpa), hair is a lot more then just hair.
Before I got ill I had more like 3c and some strands 4a (now I know how to take care of it so it's getting back to that!!), an old friend literally thought I was a homeless person. And when i got mad my teacher said; 'hair is just hair dont get worked up'
Anyways, I'm basically saying comments about hair just being hair just suck.
(I'm not English so sorry for me rambling, English isn't a very direct language to me so I find it difficult to be direct in English, I'm working on it, I promise!!!)
I know, right? Your English is just fine, pookie! I hate that people with curls and curlier hair have to just deal with those statements because it's not just hair. Like I said, it's culture and community. I literally had one teacher call me exotic for my curls, and I had people say, "It's just curls; you can wash it." When wash day is a war for me, even if you're not Black, I feel like anyone with hair just like mine can relate, no matter what.

Bird Symbolism in Revolutionary Girl Utena
There is quite a large amount of bird and bird-related imagery, symbolism, allegories and metaphors in Revolutionary Girl Utena, and i think all of them are very interesting. Here is a ~2000 word essay about the topic.
The Birdcage Garden: Anthy and Ohtori Academy
This is perhaps the most obvious of the bird symbols in Utena. It is literally Anthy's cage. It is where she, as the Rose Bride, is supposed to spend her time watering the flowers. Touga talks about never letting her out of it once he wins her, and calls her a "lovely little bird." And doesn't that just sum up what so many people's idealized version of her is like? A pretty thing to be admired, only in captivity.
I think the birdcage can also be seen as a sort of microcosm of Ohtori Academy as a whole. Akio does call the school "a garden where people will never become adults," after all, and Anthy is not the only person trapped there, nor is she the only character associated with birds.
According to this analysis, "Ohtori" as a word can mean "big bird" in japanese, and is also a Japanese term for the Fenghuang bird in Chinese mythology, said to be "beautiful, immortal and rules over all birds." Sounds a lot like a certain someone in charge of this place, doesn't it? Which would make every person in Ohtori a bird, symbolically speaking, trapped in the cage that is the academy and ruled by Akio (who, despite being the biggest, and the one with the most control, is also a caged bird.)
Additionally, the statue on the gate to the dueling arena is in the shape of a bird, before it transforms into a rose when opened. I am not sure exactly what this means, but I assume it is in some way symbolic of Akio, Anthy and Ohtori.
The Bird and the Window: Shiori and Juri
The bird that flies into the window during Shiori and Juri's conversation in episode 17 is a Java Sparrow. Despite its name, it is a part of the Estrildid Finch family, but I think the symbolism for sparrows fits the context more, as they can represent love, devotion and compainionship, all of which are very relevant for Juri and Shiori.
The bird is also the symbolic item for Shiori's black rose duel, which means we should associate the bird mainly with her. What, exactly, is the window, then? I think it is symbolic of Shiori's feelings for Juri, Juri's feelings for Shiori, or most likely both. The bird hits the window directly after Juri says "Is that all you have to say to me?" and turns to leave. The bird hits something it could not see in its flight, just as Shiori hits against something that hurts her, even if she doesn't understand it, in her conversation with Juri. The bird is shown to be lying still, presumably dead, after Juri reveals that she was never in love with the boy Shiori "stole" from her.
The bird is shown again after Juri throws her locket in the lake, and before Shiori finds it in her dorm. I've heard it discussed that this implies the bird retrieved the locket (probably through Anthy-as-Mamiya), and if the bird is symbolic of Shiori and the locket is symbolic of Juri's feelings for her, it would mean Shiori is the one to bring them back after Juri tries to rid herself of them. This makes sense.
The Bird Nest: Kozue and Miki
The bird nest that Kozue rescues from the tree that is going to be cut down is symbolic of her and Miki. Or, at least they are symbolic of how Kozue views the two of them. The comparison is pretty straightforward; Kozue projects her and Miki's feelings of abandonment onto these baby chicks, who have been left behind by their parents, just like the two of them were when their parents divorced. I think she projects her protectiveness over her brother moreso than her own feelings about the whole thing, as Kozue likes to think of herself as very independent ("a wild animal") and very unaffected by it all. As seen by her attempt to save the birds in the first place, she is very willing to put herself at risk, and is less concerned with her own feelings/safety.
Now, I don't want to get too much into speculation, but I have to wonder if there was more going on in the Kaoru family than just the divorce and the too-high expectations for the "twin prodigies." Miki's uncharacteristic cynicism in saying "adults who tell you something is for your own good can never be trusted," as well as Kozue's total disregard for authority and her tendency to use her sexuality as a tool both concern me. Although Miki and Kozue's parents are not explicitly shown to be abusive, I do not think it is a stretch to say that there is a possibility that they were. It explains some of Kozue's behaviour in regards to Miki as well. It's not just posesiveness but protectiveness. She has needed to protect him before, and she feels she needs to protect him still (pushing the predatory teacher down the stairs, saving the birds she sees his innocence in.)
Interestingly enough, Anthy interacts with these chicks as well. She advices Miki on how to feed and take care of them. Utena even comments on how unusually straight forward she's being about the whole thing. This might just be another instance of characterizing Anthy as a person who is fond of animals, and that is certainly part of it, but i think there is more to it as well. If these baby birds are symbolic of (Miki and Kozue's, but also a general) feeling of abandonment by parents/adults, as well as their potential abuse, what does that mean for Anthy not only knowing how to take care of them, but being eager to talk about it? Could it perhaps be that she, like Kozue, sees herself in them? Like Kozue, Anthy herself is symbolically a bird, but a caged one in contrast to Kozue's claims of being a wild animal. Could it be that Anthy has had to become an expert in taking care of those (herself) that have been abandoned or failed or abused by the adults in their lives? Rememeber that this is the same episode where she says that Akio is more like a father to her than a brother. A parallel is indirectly being drawn between him and the Kaoru parents.
If Miki and Kozue's parents were abusive, this might be a rare moment of Anthy empathising with other victims, telling them through metaphor how to take care of themselves. Although, it doesn't keep her from continuing to manipulate them, as she goes on to say her line about returning the chicks to their mother, which is what sets Kozue off. Anthy also says that she's never actually raised chicks before. Maybe she's not very good at taking care of them (herself) after all.
There's also what looks like two caged parakeets in Miki's flashback of their childhood. I assume this has similar meaning to Anthy's birdcage, as a feeling of being trapped, in this case by their parents' expectations for them. Kozue used to be a caged bird, but now claims to be a wild one, despite still being inside the birdcage that is Ohtori.
Brood Parasitism: Nanami and Touga (and Utena)
The Kaoru's are not the only sibling pair in Utena to be compared to birds. In Episode 31, Her Tragedy, a pretty unique shadow play is put on in the Chairman's Tower about a cuckoo leaving its egg in another bird's nest, a phenomenon known as brood parasitism. It also references the fairy tale The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen. Perhaps the most interesting part of this play is that it's done in the style of the ones in the black rose arc, with C-Ko playing all the roles, the return of the monkey-catching robot, and Utena's fourth-wall breaking commentary at the end. I won't get into what this means, as it doesn't have anything to do with the bird metaphor, but maybe in another post.
This shadow play is about how Nanami and Touga were adopted, and specifically about Nanami's feelings on the matter. Of course adopted children are not parasites, but it makes sense for Nanami to think along those lines, considering her fear of being compared to animals or aliens, and of being ostracized by the society she lives in. Nanami doesn't actually know that she is adopted, only that Touga is, which muddies that interpretation a little. Perhaps it is about Nanami blaming Touga's birth parents for "leaving him in another nest"? Something about her resentment of Touga at this point in time, thinking of him as a parasite in their family? Or simply her fear of what not being his blood-relative means.
I'm more confident about the Ugly Duckling reference, and it being symbolic of Nanami's worry of not fitting in among her peers. Nanami mainly copes with this by thinking that the reason she doesn't fit in, is because she is actually better than everybody else, because she's related to Touga (being a beautiful swan among the common ducks.) The play ends with the cuckoo insisting that it will become a swan one day, when really it can't. It will never be a duck that fits in, either. It will always just be what it is, a parasite (a space-alien. A girl who lays eggs.) This reflects Nanami's despair at the idea that she's "just another fly in the swarm" after her duel in the next episode.
And like all the shadow plays this one can be interpreted as being about Utena as well. She is an orphan who is now being raised in Akio and Anthy's "nest". Although she wasn't placed there by anyone but Akio himself, so it's more about her insecurities about feeling like an outsider in their family. And like the Ugly Duckling/cuckoo, she is also out of place among the rest of the students, and dreams of growing up to be something she can't actually become, in this case a prince. (credits to this analysis on the shadow plays for helping me piece together my thoughts on that. Always cite your sources!)
Cuckoos can also be symbolic of one-sided love, and is the origin of the word cuckoldry. Make of that what you will.
I should mention that Nanami also lays an egg of her own a few episodes prior. ...Or does she?
Her nightmare sequences show her fears of being compared to a chicken, a turtle, a frog, and of course, a space alien, but it is quite obviously a bird egg. And since we are later shown that Anthy has a chicken named Nanami, much like the cow with the same name, it can be assumed that the egg comes from there, and that Anthy brought it to Nanami's bed, perhaps via Chu-Chu. Could this relate to the brood parasitism of the cuckoo in some way? Is this not one bird (Anthy) laying its egg in another bird's (Nanami's) nest (bed) and getting them to raise it? is this what Anthy means when she tells Miki she has never personally raised chicks? Are all of these metaphors connected??? There's also the fan-theory that Nanami's egg hatched a reincarnated Chu-Chu, and in that case would he be the baby cuckoo while Anthy is the mother and Nanami is the duck? I'll be honest I'm not really sure what to make of it at this point. Draw whatever conclusion you want!
Last and probably least interesting is the third of Nanami associated bird imagery: the crow in episode 10. Crows can be symbolic of death, and it feels safe to say that this one is just here to set the mood of the scene, and as visual confirmation that the kitten did indeed die. Not too much to say there.
The Chicken and the Egg: The Student Council
I'd be remiss if i didn't mention the student council's chicken and egg speech in this post as well, even if it has been analyzed to hell and back by hundreds of people before me. It is a reference to Hermann Hesse's book Demian. It is about breaking out of childhood and into adulthood. It is about escaping Ohtori, which is both the egg and the cage (and interestingly enough, during the speech birds can be seen flying by outside the cage of the elevator.) In Nanami's version of the egg speech she mentions "the cage of freedom" and how it cares for the chick. This something that ideally should be true for schools. A place that limits children, but in a way that prepares them for the adult world. Of course, Ohtori as a system has no interest in this, as it is a cage in its most literal sense: a place to keep people trapped. Trapped in their harmful behaviours, in their lack of growth, in their idealized memories of the past, and most of all, in childhood.
And with that, we have come full circle back to Anthy's birdcage as a symbol for all of Ohtori. Thanks for reading :)
#it's done! my first proper analysis-essay since my very first post on this account!!#i know it's long but i put a lot of work into this and i'd really appreciate if you read it ^_^#although i'm not entirely satisfied with the juri/shiori segment. if anyone has anything to add i'd love that#revolutionary girl utena#analysis#anthy#akio#shiori#juri#kozue#miki#nanami#touga#utena#m#animal motif#kaoru siblings#kiryuu siblings

Hello there! Are you a DSMP fan? Do you like co-op minecraft servers? Are you looking to join one with cool people who engage in shenanigans of the lighthearted variety? Do you inexplicably follow only me and literally nobody else within the Dreblr subgroup?
If you answered yes to all of these questions, then boy howdy do I have the server for you!!
Come join us over on the Dreblr server! (Link to our admin's post for season 2; we're entering season 3 on July 19th 2024, 9pm EST). You have to share a social media that shows signs of life within the fandom, but reblogging absolutely counts. Also this won't really be for you if you're gonna, like, be a dick about c!Dream or cc!Dream.
As long as you meet those requirements, you're entirely free to join the discord server! The minecraft server only adds the additional requirement of needing to be able to run java edition. No mods are needed; Sif's firm goal is that anyone who doesn't want to touch any of that doesn't need to do so. As someone who joined the server not too long after the End opened up in season 1, I can attest that the folks in both the discord and minecraft servers are absolutely lovely. We're all very friendly, I prommy, and our admins (Sif and Vault) strike a good balance between being kind and understanding yet also willing to pull out the newspaper to bop people if we're getting a bit rowdy.
For that aforementioned inexplicable person not yet inducted into Dreblr unaware of what kind of things go on around there, we have: -Giant beet fields of increasing size (season 3 will feature a ring of them around spawn, god help us) -Warden Wranglers, aka the clowns -clown quests -scavenger hunts -server tradition of jumping off the clown tent -Our original clown, @sunshine-in-a-bottle, begging us not to jump off of the clown tent -nobody listening and us all jumping off of the clown tent anyway, to the point where it's SUCH a staple that both prior seasons ended with us all jumping off of it as the server closes -there are many clowns and the circus will likely expand more this season :o) -we've apparently had multiple cults -mysterious structures of unknown origin or importance -people with no life (me) setting up shops/lugging unholy amounts of things back to yeet at anyone who needs them -(please take things from me I want to help people so badly, s1 a lot of people had no idea I was hoarding to give away so I opened up a shop in s2 and it helped SOME but NOT ENOUGH) -the Porb (prison orb), a giant floating orb of obsidian which housed a warden -I have no idea where it was made in s2, but in s1 it was in spawn. you could not see it at night. it was VERY FUNNY. -(other people have disagreed on this, hence it not being in spawn for s2.) -many farms and qol perks, ranging from elevators to a huge villager trading hall to death chests -yes, the first and last can exist without you needing to download mods! Server-side mods are amazing. So are datapacks. -this season we're gonna be doing nearly all of the public structures from scratch again, and we've already been talking about what to do. -personally, I'm gonna try and set up the player shopping district fairly early on. I feel like I waited too long last season. Also I just want to scout a good area out before prime locations get yoinked and I can set it up near my house again. I could literally spend hours here trying to come up with a list of fun things we've done/plan to do, but I kind of need to do some eepy before the appointed hour arrives. I hope this has made you, baffling and probably nonexistent person who isn't already aware of this existing, consider joining the fun. We'd love to have you!
#this message brought to you by a mystery box reward for doing advertising#the last mystery box was a parrot that could turn into a dragon#I could have gotten that but decided I'd rather get 13 elytras and some other stuff#this time tho...I'll kick myself for not getting that bag if I don't#bc we have NO IDEA what it is. probably not the admins' heads???#Vault laughed about that. which might also mean it's on the table tbf#oh also you can like. see the bastard & co bc I have the five as axos every season#if that is somehow enticing to you???

The thing about Dinesh getting turned on by Gilfoyle's code is that it's not that he finds the code itself sexy. He doesn't want to fuck a computer program. What's sexy to him is the intellect behind the creation of the code. Java is his speciality, and seeing an elegant and brilliant Java method was intoxicating. It made him feel emotionally connected to the person who wrote it. More than that, he just finds brilliance in his field extremely sexy.
I completely understand. The last guy I dated was extremely intelligent and had a lot of knowledge about biology, my major, and that was a HUGE turn-on. Whenever he demonstrated that knowledge and intelligence, I wanted to climb on top of him.
Dinesh is the same way. I think this was a turning point for him in regards to his relationship with Gilfoyle. I don't think he was actively attracted to Gilfoyle before this. I do think it was low-key there, but I think seeing just how talented, intelligent, and skilled Gilfoyle is took him from low-key attraction that he didn't give much thought to to high-key attraction that he then had to try to ignore.

Luca: I think personally though
Luca: I wish him the best
Luca: I hope he does feel better
Luca: You know, I just hope he stops struggling with his mental health - according to his message
... WOW. That is some piss poor wording if I've ever seen it. And his delivery doesn't help at all, damn.
My personal gripes with Luca Kaneshiro (or Java according to Raziel's document) aside, maybe this could have been phrased... A little more thoughtful. And with less pauses.
I understand that he's most likely very shocked at the sudden announcement, but the fact that he or some of the other livers who he said himself he talked to before his stream didn't have the idea to write up a joint statement or something similar is baffling to me (That's Niji's non-existent PR training for ya I guess).
Shu on the other hand handled the situation incredibly well - yes, even though he edited his Youtube community post. He's considerate of Ike's wishes and I respect that.
Meanwhile Luca's statement rings - again, in my own personal opinion - very hollow and insincere.
He walked into this seemingly absolutely unprepared, his many pauses and tone indicating as much (and looking at Shu, being somewhat prepared wasn't impossible by any means) and I get the impression that he neither understands Ike's problems nor in all likelihood takes them all that seriously.
It's one thing to lack the empathy for someone else's situation, but Luca's choice of words was so incredibly poor it's honestly astounding.
You don't just 'stop struggling' with your mental health. Things like depression, PTSD, anxiety issues, burnout etc are a lifelong shackle around your ankle that you're dragging along for the rest of your life in most, if not all cases - even with access to therapy.
And the fact that he added the 'according to his statement' in combination with his tone - - Goodness. Don't even get me started.
Ike's sudden graduation feels like a last resort of sorts. Whether it was something initiated by him or the company is something we'll most likely never know, but I have no doubt that there were severe reasons for this move.
I obviously don't know Ike personally, but I'd like to think he would have liked to inform everyone and said a proper goodbye to his fanbase as well - I just don't think it was a possibility for him at this stage, most likely because of his health.
To put it nicely - Luca's words don't do the situation justice at all.
And I think I'll leave it at that.
For now.

Time for another ramble.
This time, it's about Arjun, Prince of Bali. Some things that bothered me as an Indo.

Look, I know the show had long ended (with only 3 years of runtime and it has been 7 years since it had ended), but the show is surprisingly underwhelming, and I'm saying this as someone who used to watch some of the episodes that showed on TV (dubbed in Indo obv) when I was younger, and also as someone who's taken the time to watch the episodes in order or not.
Keep in mind, I'm not here to bash the show. I liked this show, because it's actually interesting if you actually took the time to enjoy it. It's just that my overanalyzing ass couldn't stfu, so that's why I'm whipping this up out of my ass. It's my job dawg- ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Names
They lack Indo names. Like, ok. Aci and Ayu are there, and ig Wangi is also there. But like how their names are pronounced are butchered, especially the twins, they're so Americanized in terms of their name pronunciation.
Tanya is questionable cuz that's not even an Indo name. Tanya in Indo means question, and idk wtf came over the king and queen's head thinking naming their child Question is a good idea.
Everyone else had Hindi names.
I'd propose alternative names for Wangi and Tanya (personally, the name Wangi, wrongly pronounced or otherwise is weird, just saying-).
Funnily enough, I've searched up Balinese names, and I read names are supposed to be given depending on their birth order.
Meaning, if Arjun isn't name the way he is, his name could be Wayan due to being a firstborn child.
Tanya could be named Ni Luh, as a firstborn daughter. Yes, she's a second born, which also give her the option of Ni Made. Honestly it depends, it could be either of them, but my point still stands.
And for Wangi, I'd give her the name Bunga instead, meaning flower.
Lack of Indo Language Overall
Look, I know it's an Indian cartoon, but if you're going to put a set in other places other than India, might as well do proper research.
Like, I get it, Balinese is especially a difficult language, and I understand as a Javanese and Maduranese who doesn't understand squat of Java at the slightest.
But at the very least, you could use normal Indo. But then again, I think they'll butcher pronunciation regardless if they did or not, looking how they ruined Aci and Ayu's name.
All I'm saying is that, yes, although the overall language use is Hindi, at the very least, use some Indo words in there, even if it's just a little bit. Music, clothing, and architecture isn't the only thing that should be shown, our language, the local or the country-wide one should be represented as well. But I guess it's hard given that there's literally no Indo person in their team.
I get that Arjun and Tanya are biracial, and Hindi also had the right to be represented even if the setting isn't at India. But my point still stands.
Arjun's Lack of Hair Care
Listen, Arjun probably had the most flawless hair known to mankind, and I think he knows it, so that's why he's embracing it. But the point is, similar way of how Bheem's dhoti never got in the way of his fighting, Arjun's hair also never got in the way of training and fighting.
Realistically, he'd tie it up so his hair won't block his view. But god forbid that times of he did get his eyes blocked from view, it won't because of his hair, more like it's from other things like blowing leaves and flying papers.
I would personally love to see more of Arjun looking like this more.
That hairstyle is equally gorgeous as his free hair. He'd still look girly either way lmfao.
Khojo
Look, he deserve his own column due to reasons.
First and foremost; he's a ginger, so are his father. Having a hair color other than black and brown in Asia is rather unusual unless his father had like a foreign lineage. Not to mention they're weirdly pale as well. I have red on my hair naturally, but he's literally just straight up ginger dawg-
And what is this obsession over getting rid of Arjun so Khojo could become prince instead? Like, I get that Arjun is an heir, but isn't usually if the heir couldn't take over or just no more at all, shouldn't the other borns took over instead? If in the events Arjun is to be eliminated, Tanya would be successor instead. Why would a Minister's kid be appointed as prince instead? Like, I don't know if it works like in other countries (I'm not familiar with Indo royal hierarchy system, much less Bali), but just saying that appointing someone who's not even part of the family as an heir when there's clearly someone else other than the initial heir who could take over and is part of the family.
Take is from Bheem for example; sure, he's not royalty and not even part of the royal family. But he was appointed as a substitute king for a while because both the king and the princess are absent. Bheem is appointed to be king because he's trusted and can protect the kingdom just fine.
Khojo is different, and even if scenario plays in a similar manner but still differs; like if the king and queen ceased to exist anymore, Arjun would assume the throne from the get-go despite how still very young he is. If Arjun is also ceased to exist, Tanya would assume the throne. There's literally no place for Khojo at all, and even if Tanya is also gone, I don't think Khojo or even any of the Ministers are gonna assume the throne regardless, especially Khojo's father. Khojo's father literally once planned of Arjun and Zimmbu's kidnapping and tiger-napping all for the sake of getting his son to the seat of prince, yet that is literally not how it works. Who would even trust the throne to him dawg?? Arjun isn't the only child royalty in the family, Tanya is still there. If Arjun is killed after he got kidnapped, she'll assume to be heir right away.
Oh, and he's trying so hard for Tanya, even though she's not interested. He's so desperate for what?
Now I'm moving onto something I don't really wanna bitch off of, just wanted to point things out and maybe throw some scenarios here and there because I think it's neat.
Arjun As A Girl In Disguise
Tell me if you see this pic out of context, you'd tell me whether this kid is a girl or a boy;
Anyways, my point is, if you give him more feminine clothes and he wears it, 100% he'd be mistaken as a girl. And if situation requires it, he'd effortlessly lie that he is a girl, and no one will suspect shit.
He's not even just androgynous anymore, he's straight up feminine, and I liked it that not all men should all look broad and jacked. They could be feminine asf and still look badass.
Both Arjun and Tanya Represents Arjuna of Mahabarata
Now, what do I mean by that?
We all know Arjuna's personality. Arjun had the exact same personality as Arjuna (hence literally being a spinoff version of Arjuna himself). From enjoying attention, how girls fall for them, even as wielding the same weapons (bow and arrow). I think Arjun represents Arjuna in the warfare aspect.
And where do Tanya fit into this?
See, Tanya is more artistic; she danced and done more things in the arts compared to when she actually did anything relating with combat (mentioning the times she once did archery and another episode where broke into Arjun's room with Wangi to get his weapons to train while Arjun is away). Tanya represents Arjuna who were taught and enjoys dancing and music aspect during the exile.
Now I just want answers to my questions;
Who tf is Sankat? Ik he's also a prince, but I can't tell if he's related to Arjun in some way (I don't understand Hindi)
Why is Wangi even in the forest?
Why is Wangi blue?
That's probably all. If there's more I want to talk about, I'll add it in a reblog.
#arjun prince of bali#Kayetra Spade Queen#Kayetra Rambles#i went insane on this one you could tell#thinking of many scenarios of arjun wearing dresses and fooling everyone everywhere and rocking the dress overall#also thinking about modern au where arjun and tanya moved somewhere fkr studies cuz yes#found a description somewhere in TikTok that someone named Arjun is aiming to be a doctor#and that description came from the arjun prince of bali tag#ik that's prob a diff arjun altogether but it's quite a neat scenario where arjun secretly wanted to be a doctor#but couldn't because he'd feel guilty for his duties#live laugh love arjun in tied up hair#srs tho arjun with tied up hair looked so pretty omfg-#also saying if the show showcased more of the indo or Balinese language low-key arjun would throw some heavy insults with heavy accents

NorthaDawn's Feb 2024 Update
Hello everyone, NorthaDawn here, and it's February here, I hope that your 2024 has been going great so far! Mine has been decent so far, and I wanted to write this important journal to give you some in-depth news into the latest happenings that I've been doing that I feel all of you deserve to know about!
1) PERSONAL HAPPENINGS
I'll get the elephant in the room out of the way first; on the health side of things, I've been doing much better and physically, this is the healthiest I've been in ages. Mentally? Let's just say that I've had to cut off someone really toxic from the community; they've caused a lot of trouble for me and my dear friends for months. I don't want to dive further into what happened to keep my friends safe, but I do want to say this: be there for your friends and stand up for them when they need you around.
Apart from that, I have been changing up things here and there and handling stuff in my university and in my family, but I do have some things cooking up for you guys that I'll share with you here later! But first, I want to go over my announcement from a handful of days back to clarify a few things.
2) THAT SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
You've probably already read my post where I announced my decision to continue making Titanic content in the future instead of retiring, but I think I should also explain why I contemplated retiring (again). To be honest with you, ever since my heart attack ages ago, things have gone poorly for me here; a partnership that wasn't meant to be, my ever-increasing workload in university, losing momentum and motivation for Titanic art in general, and feeling like a stranger here again has been a few reasons as to why I decided to quit once 2023 turns into 2024. However, a new partnership with smolnoodlekitty that soon turned into "Team Heartslash" (which includes people such as Matlock26th, caitlin._.art, Lacoeurdelamer, NWArtOfficial), getting more lovely people to voice act my characters, and the support from the newest batch of talented artists in the community made me rethink my decision to step away from doing Titanic art. That's why I decided to stay on! Unironically, I wouldn't still be here today without your support, so thank you all for continuing to support me even though I barely upload at all these days. I'm trying to work on that, I promise.
Speaking of characters...
3) MY FIRST OC: MASAKO HONDA
I finally made an actual original character that isn't a gijinka of some sort! I got the confidence to finally make a character that isn't limited to being a gijinka, and I'm happy with what I have. You've probably already seen her if you checked out my Twitter, but here she is: Masako Honda!
Masako Honda is a hyperactive, ADHD-ridden Japanese-Filipino girl who moved to the Philippines at the age of 10. Despite being a self-proclaimed nerd who is very geeky and hyperactive to the point where she can't stay still for 5 minutes, she is a very attractive girl who is way out of most guys' league. However, she doesn't have a boyfriend since birth. She took up the Game Development course in her university because of her self-taught ability in Unity and in C#. Just don't call her a Java developer.
That's a brief introduction of her, she'll soon have her place in my gallery, and I hope you'll be excited for that day to come as much as I am! The early reception I got from both my Discord server and my classmates has been insane and I couldn't be more thankful for the response I got for her!
4) SOCIAL MEDIAS (DISCORD SERVER + DA GROUP)
I've been going around and trying to update my social media pages and stuff, and I understand that there's a lot of links to keep up with, so I compiled them all in one page so you can quickly go to my profiles in certain sites! You can check them out right now through my Linktree here: https://linktr.ee/NorthaDawn
Speaking of updates, I've also been doing a little rebrand, which is why I've transitioned away from my old theme to the one I've had right now, I hope you like the new look!
I've also decided to take on a new tagline that I feel would represent not only me, but also all of you guys as a whole well. It's a simple line, yet it's a very motivational one, at least for me, and I hope it'll be motivational for you too. The tagline? "THERE IS STILL A VOYAGE TO EMBARK ON."
As a final reminder, I do have a Discord server up that also serves as a server for smolnoodlekitty and caitlin._.art! You can join through this link here: https://discord.gg/gsxGMPMPNb
5) VOICE ACTRESS ANNOUNCEMENT
Of course, I'd save the best for last. I'll keep it short and sweet...
RMS Olympic (Olyvia McLoughlin) - caitlin._.art
You probably know her as my Titanic's voice for a bit now, but she'll now be primarily voicing the Old Reliable now! She also did the absolutely gorgeous art for this announcement! As for who'll take her spot as Titanic?
RMS Titanic (Emily McLoughlin) - Lacoeurdelamer
She's the nice girl who'll play the Queen of the Ocean! If you've been around my Discord server, you know her as Maxine, and the amount of similarities she has to my Titanic is quite insane, which is why she's the perfect fit!
Masako Honda - moonglower.art + smolnoodlekitty
A 2-for-1! Weren't expecting that, were you? Either way, they're sharing duties to be the voice of the hyperactive college girl!
I hope you'll be looking forward to hearing them bring my characters to life!
FINAL REMARKS
Thanks for your continued support, and I hope that this has been a nice update so you're up to speed with what's going on in my end of things. Please do leave a comment, I'd like to know what you think! Also, go support every artist mentioned in this journal, they deserve it too! Have a wonderful day!
-Northa

so i recently had the displeasure of reading a post claiming that minecraft's transition to more technically competent textures and animations is bad... solely because it's harder for modders to slap together all of a mod's visuals in a collective five minutes.
i've said this before and i'll say it again: imagine if modders* for other games were this fucking pissy about everything.
imagine if everyone collectively pissed their pants at mario wonder's artstyle just because the animations don't suck ass anymore.
(i mean, i personally don't really like wonder's artstyle, but that's irrelevant.)
the post also claimed that modern minecraft doesn't have a popular modding version, which just isn't true - 1.16.5 exists, and that large mods are being split up into multiple smaller mods entirely for ad revenue.
i can't really speak for everyone on that last point, especially since i don't even make mods - i make resource packs, but like. it's a lot easier to name and explain things if they have some kind of central goal. cornbread's texture fixer and conglomeration were the same pack, but i found it a lot easier to just split them and make them compatible than to try to explain both of them mashed together. (tbh most people still don't understand what conglomeration is.)
i guess what i'm trying to say is: why the shit are java players so fucking annoying about mods??? you aren't being oppressed because endstone looks better than it did before. shut the fuck up.
*by "modders", i mean "people who play with mods but don't make them, not actual modders." i have yet to hear or read anything this annoying from actual modders.
#minecraft#that's right. i'm putting this in the main tag. what are you gonna do about it.#cornbread is fucking pissed at java players#<- (decided that's the tag for these kinds of posts btw)

I've always been aggravated by the way Odin looks to so many people because of Marvel. (I've only seen any of the movies because I have a crush on Tom Huddleston) Why can't I find any articles or videos about how Marvel made Odin look bad?! I have worked with him before, and I've become very passionate about this.
Having a crush on Tom Hiddleston is completely understandable. I went to London (I live in San Francisco - a not-inexpensive 11 hour plane flight) to see him in "Betrayal". I get it. And he is even more charming and handsome in person . . . .
Oh, right, where was I? Right. Odin. Deity images. This got rather more expansive than I first thought, so I've added a cut to spare everyone's scrolling hand.
There likely are articles from people who are similarly displeased with Anthony Hopkins personifying the Allfather. I'm not sure how one would search for those; the search terms could vary wildly. My guess would be to find a Marvel forum thread from around the time the first "Thor" movie came out—there would probably have been intense debates between people who think he should have looked like a medieval woodcut, and people who think he needed more gold in his costume. Or find a thread on a Norse/heathen forum around the same time—you can probably find endless lamentations of the images of each of the characters in the film. (Thinking of someone who stated that Renee Russo couldn't play Frigga because she was "too pretty". Really glad that was an overheard comment, and not a discussion I was personally involved in.)
When an image comes from popular culture and the item (movie, book, etc.) is widely embraced, that image embeds in individual and collective consciousness. People who've never seen the movies will pick up on that image and perpetuate them. I understand it's aggravating when that's not how you see the being.
While you can't change the pervasiveness of the MCU image, you can channel your passion into creating and sharing an image that seems right to you. It may or may not achieve the same critical mass in the collective consciousness, but you have put forth your vision.
Not everyone is going to share the same perspective—that's why we have so many different representations of the same being, whether human, divine, or other.
For example, this is the image on my Odin altar. It's actually a sticker from Death Wish Coffee Company, which sent the sticker with my first order of Valhalla Java:
It's a classic drawing of Odin. I left the "Odinforce Blend" words on it, because even though they refer to the coffee, it makes me think about what blending Odin's energies with other energies might produce. Other people might be offended that I'm using a coffee company sticker on my altar, but it works for me, and it's my altar, so it doesn't have to work for anyone else.
Work with the images that work for you. Try to let go of your aggravation, and let everyone else work with the images that work for them. If someone imagines Odin as Anthony Hopkins in a gold brocade robe, or in shiny armor astride a CGI Sleipnir, that's their choice. They may change their mind when they see a different image, and perhaps that image will come from you!

Travel Insurance for Indonesia and Canada: Essential for Indian Travelers
Planning an international trip involves more than just flights and accommodation; it requires foresight for the unexpected. For Indian travelers eyeing the tropical allure of Indonesia or the vast natural beauty of Canada, travel insurance isn't just a recommended accessory – it's often a vital safeguard, and in some cases, a mandatory requirement. Understanding the nuances of travel insurance for these two diverse destinations is key to a stress-free and financially secure journey.

Travel Insurance for Indonesia (for Indian Travelers)
Indonesia, a popular archipelago known for Bali's serene beaches, Java's cultural heritage, and Sumatra's wild jungles, welcomes Indian tourists with a relatively straightforward visa process, often involving a Visa on Arrival (VoA) for short stays. However, while travel insurance is not strictly mandatory for Indian citizens for entry into Indonesia, it is highly recommended.
Why it's Essential for Indonesia:
Medical Costs: While medical care in Indonesia can be more affordable than in Western countries, serious illnesses or accidents can still incur significant expenses, especially if evacuation to a better-equipped facility or repatriation to India is required.
Adventure Activities: Many travelers visit Indonesia for adventure sports like surfing, diving, trekking, and volcano hikes. Standard health insurance often doesn't cover injuries sustained during such activities, making specialized travel insurance crucial.
Theft and Loss: Like any popular tourist destination, petty theft or loss of valuables (passport, luggage, money) can occur. Travel insurance provides financial protection and assistance in these situations.
Trip Disruptions: Flight delays, cancellations, or missed connections are always possibilities. A good policy covers non-refundable expenses due to such unforeseen events.
Key Coverages to Look for in Indonesia Travel Insurance:
Medical Emergency & Hospitalization: Coverage for illnesses, accidents, emergency medical evacuation, and repatriation of remains. Look for at least USD 50,000 in medical coverage.
COVID-19 Coverage: Ensure the policy explicitly covers medical expenses related to COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment during your trip.
Baggage Coverage: Protection against loss, theft, or delay of checked-in baggage.
Loss of Passport: Assistance and reimbursement for expenses incurred in obtaining a new passport.
Trip Cancellation/Interruption/Delay: Reimbursement for non-refundable expenses if your trip is cut short, delayed, or cancelled due to covered reasons.
Personal Liability: Coverage if you accidentally cause injury to a third party or damage their property.
Adventure Sports Coverage: If you plan on engaging in activities like diving, surfing, or trekking, ensure these are covered. Some policies offer this as an add-on.
Typical Cost: Travel insurance for Indonesia from India can start from as low as ₹25-50 per day, varying based on age, sum insured, and specific coverage features.
Travel Insurance for Canada (for Indian Travelers)
Canada, renowned for its pristine wilderness, cosmopolitan cities, and high quality of life, is a significant draw for Indian visitors, including tourists, students, and those visiting family. While travel insurance is not officially mandatory for Indian citizens for a Canada Tourist Visa, it is highly recommended and often implicitly expected, especially given the exorbitant healthcare costs in Canada for non-residents.
Why it's Crucial for Canada:
Exorbitant Healthcare Costs: Canada has an excellent healthcare system, but it's primarily for its citizens and permanent residents. For visitors, medical treatment can be incredibly expensive. Even a minor emergency can cost thousands of Canadian Dollars. Travel insurance is your only financial safety net against unforeseen medical bills.
Medical Emergencies: Accidents or sudden illnesses can happen anywhere. Travel insurance covers emergency medical treatment, hospital stays, doctor consultations, and crucial emergency medical evacuation (which can cost tens of thousands of dollars).
Trip Disruptions: Long-haul flights to Canada can be susceptible to delays or cancellations due to weather, airline issues, or other factors. Travel insurance provides financial compensation for unexpected accommodation, missed connections, or non-refundable bookings.
Baggage and Document Loss: Loss of luggage or a passport can be a significant inconvenience and financial drain, particularly in a foreign country. Travel insurance covers these unforeseen events.
Key Coverages to Look for in Canada Travel Insurance:
High Medical Coverage: Due to high healthcare costs, look for a policy with substantial medical coverage, ideally USD 100,000 to USD 500,000 or more. This should include hospitalization, outpatient care, emergency dental treatment, and emergency medical evacuation.
COVID-19 Coverage: Essential to cover diagnosis, treatment, and quarantine expenses related to COVID-19.
Personal Accident Coverage: Benefits in case of accidental death or permanent disability.
Trip Cancellation, Interruption, and Delay: Comprehensive coverage for various travel disruptions.
Baggage Loss/Delay and Loss of Passport: Standard coverages for these common travel mishaps.
Personal Liability: Protection if you cause accidental injury or damage to others.
Repatriation of Mortal Remains: Covers the cost of transporting remains back to India in an unfortunate event.
Typical Cost: Travel insurance for Canada from India can start from around ₹40-70 per day, depending on the coverage amount, duration, and age of the traveler.
Choosing the Right Travel Insurance Provider
When selecting a travel insurance policy for either Indonesia or Canada from India, consider the following:
Reputation of the Insurer: Choose a reputable insurer with a good claim settlement ratio and 24/7 customer support.
Coverage Limits: Ensure the sum insured for various benefits (especially medical) is adequate for the destination's costs.
Inclusions and Exclusions: Read the policy document carefully to understand what is covered and, more importantly, what is not (e.g., pre-existing conditions, adventure sports, certain types of negligence).
Cashless Facility: Check if the insurer offers a cashless hospitalization facility in your destination countries, which simplifies the claim process.
Policy Duration: Ensure the policy covers your entire trip, including the day of departure from India until your return.
Customer Support: Look for accessible and responsive customer service for emergencies abroad.
In conclusion, while travel insurance for Indonesia is highly advisable and for Canada, almost a necessity due to healthcare costs, securing a comprehensive policy tailored to your trip needs provides invaluable peace of mind. It acts as a crucial financial safety net against unforeseen circumstances, allowing you to focus on enjoying your international adventure.

How to Build a Portfolio That Lands You a Tech Job

In the tech world where all things are competitive, the resume tells the employer, "This is what I have done," while the portfolio demonstrates what a person can do. For trainers, designers, data scientists, and cybersecurity professionals, the portfolio is often the single most important tool to project their skills, passion, and problem-solving ability. If you've got a portfolio for presentation, then consider that your proof in the trenches, your display, and the single most important way into that dream tech job.
If you're wondering how to build a portfolio that lands you a tech job, you're asking the right question. Employers in tech want to see practical application of skills, not just certifications. Your portfolio is your opportunity to shine, tell your story, and differentiate yourself in a crowded market.
Why a Portfolio is Essential for Tech Jobs:
Demonstrates Practical Skills:While your resume lists your skills, a portfolio provides evidence of your coding, designing, analysis, or security skills.
Shows Problem-Solving Ability: Problems or experiences in your portfolio will demonstrate your way of dealing with problems and how you find solutions.
Reflects Your Passion: Good personal projects show someone really wants to work in that area.
Highlights Creativity & Uniqueness: It acts as your advertisement for your style, creativity, and particular niche interests.
Validates Learning: If you've taken in-demand programming courses or Data Science courses in Ahmedabad, your portfolio validates the practical application of that learning.
Key Components of a Compelling Tech Portfolio:
A strong portfolio is not a roulette of put-together projects. Instead, it is a story of your capabilities.
1. Quality Over Quantity:
Concentrate on a handful of about 3-5, high-quality projects that are well documented as opposed to several partially done projects. Choose projects that adequately showcase different skills as well as a deeper understanding of those skills.
2. Diverse Project Types:
A mix of personal projects, coursework-related assignments (if they carry some weight), and open-source contributions is needed.
For Developers: web app, mobile app, command-line tools, API integrations.
For Data Scientists: Notebooks for scrubbing and analyzing data, implementations for machine learning models, interactive dashboards.
For Designers: UI/UX case studies, mockups, prototypes, graphic design.
For Cybersecurity: Home lab setup, penetration testing (ethical) reports, security tools development.
3. Clear Documentation for Each Project::
Problem: What problem does your project try to solve?
Solution: How did you go about it? What technologies did you use (Python, JavaScript, Java)? What was your architecture?
Learnings: What challenges did you face, and what did you learn from them? This is reflection and growth.
Live Demos/Screenshots/Videos: Provide links to live deployments, clear screenshots, or short video walkthroughs.
4. Use GitHub (or similar platforms):
For developers, a well-organized GitHub profile is your primary portfolio. Ensure repositories are clean, code is commented, and README files are comprehensive. It shows version control proficiency.
5. Create a Professional Portfolio Website:
This acts as your central hub. It doesn't need to be fancy, but it should be clean, easy to navigate, and clearly present your best work. Use it to link to your GitHub, LinkedIn, and any live demos.
Actionable Steps to Build Your Portfolio:
Start Small, But Start Now: Do not wait until you have learned everything. Start working on basic projects and build on your skills while you keep on going.
Solve a Real Problem: Think of problems you couple of might be facing yourself or someone you know and try to solve them with some coding or design work. Usually, these projects feel more engaging and meaningful.
Contribute to Open Source: Give it a try, maybe contribute to an open-source project. It establishes that you function as a team and can work with an existing codebase.
Participate in Hackathons/Competitions: Such events are good for rapid skill-building and also building suitably impressive projects under pressure.
Seek Feedback: Ask peers, mentors, or instructors (e.g., from your computer coaching in Ahmedabad) to provide you with constructive criticisms.
Quantify Your Impact: Whenever possible, quantify your impact to the extent possible: describe the results of your projects with numerical values (e.g., "reduced loading time by 20%", "analyzed one million data points").
What Employers Look For:
Beyond technical skills, employers assess:
Clean, Readable Code/Work: Shows attention to detail and professionalism.
Problem-Solving Process: How you approach challenges.
Passion & Initiative: Personal projects indicate a genuine interest.
Ability to Learn: Demonstrated growth through project iterations.
Communication: How well you explain your work.
Your portfolio is your story in action. Invest time and effort into curating a compelling one, and it will undoubtedly become your most powerful asset in landing that tech job.

The project he was assigned to was built using complex microservices architecture in a cloud environment—technologies he had only heard of in training sessions. His role demanded expertise in AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines. Although Surya Prakash Reddy was a quick learner, the pressure of daily stand-up meetings, tight deadlines, and constant technical challenges started to wear him down. He was afraid to ask too many questions, fearing it would make him look incompetent in front of his team.
One weekend, while venting to a friend, Surya Prakash Reddy came across the concept of IT Job Support—a service where experienced IT professionals help employees like him with real-time project issues. With some hesitation, he signed up for a part-time job support service. In www.solpany.com, from the solpany The person assigned to him was a senior DevOps engineer who worked in the US and had over 10 years of experience. Every day after work, they would spend an hour discussing Surya Prakash Reddy’s challenges, debugging code, and understanding architecture.
Within a few weeks, Surya Prakash Reddy felt a renewed sense of confidence. He began contributing meaningfully in meetings, fixed a critical bug in the deployment pipeline, and even proposed an improvement that was praised by his manager. His performance improved drastically, and he finally felt like he belonged in the team. He always used to say thanks to solpany Inc.
