Got my red string in hand and my wall of photos to possible suspects and Blitz right at the center. I was just thinking about Blitz’s line from Full Moon and his anger at royalty and where it comes from like several of us have been rolling around in our brains since he said it. I see three possibilities:

A Royal Ex:

Blitz has yet another famous ex, this one some form of royalty or Sin. A few of us have talked about the possibility he was really hurt by another famous royal. I am definitely on board with that to a point but I’m not yet 100% sold on it. And Andrelphus is really the only character we know right now that is a possibility in my eyes. We haven’t met Vassago so he is still in play as well.

It’s not Mammon, it’s not Ozzie, it’s not Bee, and it’s def not Stella. These are the higher up people we’ve met in HB so far with no indication in their scenes it goes deeper than that? For Ozzie, Mammon, Bee and Stella Blitz has met and interacted all of them and it was never hinted at or mentioned, no uncomfortable looks, no conversational cues or dialogue that reflects he knew them any deeper than what we see in their shared scenes. And no way he wouldn’t have rubbed it in more if it was Stella.

Vassago is a potential but Viv said he was a good boy (and oddly I believe her so I’ve been adjusting my theories accordingly, maybe I’m stupid for that lol) so holding onto that it could be that Vassago was a proto-Stolas, they dated and Blitz assumed the same things he’s doing with Stolas, but then my brain says “If this demon is the source of the hurt that drives Blitz’s actions with Stolas now, then why would they be an issue then?” If the hurt was created by Vassago then Blitz wouldn’t have the same baggage and hangups to ruin that relationship in the same way. So either Vassago was a dick who hurt Blitz bad enough he feels this way to this degree now, and is not in fact, a good boy, or it was another misunderstanding, which feels redundant and not potentially serious enough to warrant this level of reaction and trauma (not that trauma has a threshold of hurt you must meet but in media you have to be hyperbolic and dramatic to translate magnitude to the audience) so I lean away from him. There is some good potential there but I also think I would kinda hate it unless it was done super well.

Andrelphus is the most likely option for this possibility. He and Blitz have not met on screen, he is a known character with ties to Stolas. But like the other characters we know I feel like we’d have some hint of it beyond this line in Full Moon? Mostly because we’ve been setting up Andrelphus and Stella as a threat for awhile and establishing a second connection with them to Blitz without any prior setup after the breakup feels weird to me from a writing perspective. It just doesn’t quite fit with how this show handles dropping hints and foreshadowing. If it was Andrelphus I just feel like we’d have a few little background things tying him to Blitz, even something subtle like uses of ice motifs in backgrounds, or dialogue that hinted at a royal ex before Full Moon, especially one so closely tied to Stolas and so reflective of the issues in their relationship. It could be Blitz doesn’t realize Stolas and Andrelphus are connected but I just find that hard to believe at this point. It would be a tough sell for me writing wise and would feel more “Ha, what a twist”. It wouldn’t feel earned.

A Class Divide

Blitz was speaking in general on behalf of imps, it’s personal in the way marginalization is always personal. It’s not about one specific encounter with one specific person but a lifetime of encounters and micro aggressions. It’s less about a specific incident and more about the current class hierarchy especially given their conversation in Apology Tour was meant to echo Striker, to show that Striker’s feelings and his concerns aren’t wrong, his hurt came from a real place that all Imps experience, he is just expressing that hurt in violent ways. I dislike this neo-liberal framing that violence is not an answer to oppression, sometimes violence is the only recourse a marginalized group has, and I would especially hate that in a queer show. Unfortunately that is the prevalent position in media and political discourse, just look at reactions to protest movements. I don’t agree that Striker’s actions are necessarily justified, vigilantism is a rough and complex topic, but the show seems to frame his actions as decidedly negative. This is a hard one to explain fully in just a few words so I’ll leave it at this and delve into it more in a post about class dynamics. Basically, it could be Blitz isn’t talking about a specific personal hurt but furthering the idea that Striker and Blitz are on the same side with different approaches and outcomes.

Barbie Wire

This is my current favorite. What if the royals fucking with imps isn’t even a reference to himself but to Barbie? If Barbie was involved with royalty and was hurt by them, and Blitz’s interference and attempt at protection led to their current estrangement it would make sense for him to be this upset about it and take it out on Stolas. A royal ruined his sister’s life and as a result made her hate him. I think we established that Barbie and Blitz worked together for a time after the fire? I’m not 100% on that but I thought there was some hint to that in the background posters at some point? For some reason I have it in my head that they did not split immediately after the fire or as a direct result of it, their split came after.

But I can def see a scenario where Barbie gets involved with a powerful person, a person who encourages her substance abuse, who maybe was the source of it from an enabling point of view. It could be a patron of one of thier shows, taking advantage of the performer they paid for, luring her in with drugs and parties. Blitz, well meaning, tries to get her away from it, maybe he knows the true nature of this royal and confronts them, the royal drops Barbie leaving her an addicted mess and they lose their livelihood at the same time. And Barbie blames Blitz for the ruin of it, even if he had only the best of intentions. She might not know the whole story, or as is sometimes the case, really loved this person even though they did not have good intentions and she refuses to see that it was the best thing for her.

There’s enough baggage between them from the fire alone but this would add another really interesting layer. It would be a fresher way to emphasize hurt than adding to the cadre of Blitz Exes. If there is a shadowy evil royal this is my preferred scenario for it.

When We Bleed Lore Ramble: Language!

Hello, I am home and bored and like slightly sick, so here have a ramble:

The longer I spent on Terr’rasi the more developed the language becomes, so I figured I’d clear some stuff up!

Today we’re gonna talk about the apostrophes in the language!

So far, there is 5 reasons for them to be there:

1 ) To merge two words in order to create a new one. Best example: Terr’rasi! The first part of the word is obviously derived from the simple term Terra. The second part of the word rasi simply translates to language.

Other examples:

Kai’e —> Kai means you and e means are/to be, so kai’e becomes you are

qi’avwe —> qi’ means like and avwe means we/us so qi’avwe becomes normal (because Terra is so exclusive and so focused on bloodlines and fertility culture that only Terran culture and people can be considered the standard in their language —> it’s become so common to them that they don’t notice the, for lack of better word, micro-aggression in their language)

But it doesn’t apply to EVERY word bc grammar sucks in every language so you also have words like avwe which means we or us. a is me or I and vwe is and so avwe (we/us) literally is me and

2 ) to show ownership. For example kiia means daughter. na’kiia means my daughter. It goes na’ — my, ka’ — your and k’ — their

3 ) to negate something. we said before that qi’avwe means normal. tn’qi’avwe means different. if a word or phrase is prefaced by tn’ it becomes the opposite

4 ) to make a verb imperative. there’s two forms of this! Let’s use the word esii or quiet as an example!

a) ‘jn, which makes a word a command and can be considered rude in certain contexts. So esii’jn becomes the phrase Shut up!

b) ‘j, which makes it a polite request for action, so esii’j becomes Could you please be quiet for a moment?

5 ) phi thought it looked cool and hasn’t decided on a deeper meaning yet or if it will get one. The in-story official explanation for this is that language evolves and some older grammar rules prevail in spoken language but don’t make sense in the written form (which is a real life thing in every language so I’m good bullshitting as much as I want :D) examples: Ai’gia (cavalry), anne’eka (please)

In spoken language reasons 1, 4 and 5 can hardly be identified. Reason 2, 3 can be identified because the prefix before the apostrophe is stressed and there’s usually a short break in the word where the apostrophe is.

More headcanons, this time video games

Note that isn't ALL the games they would play, but the ones they like the MOST. Or resonate with the most. Percy: Starting with the easiest, or rather second easiest. But Percy, and I mean this wholeheartedly, is a Metal Gear Solid stan. If there's ANY story out there that he would relate to more. It's Solid Snake's story, especially the whole "I just want to rest and be left alone but people keep dragging me back to fight battles."

TELL ME THAT DOESN'T FIT PERCY. HE JUST WANTS TO RELAX WITH ANNABETH BUT NOOO Outside of Metal Gear Solid, he's def a fan of Elder Scrolls (and LotR duh). "But Orcus" I hear you say "Percy said he doesn't like fantasy" and you would be correct. However, I raise you this. He doesn't like Urban Fantasy specifically. The whole "there's a secret magical world where we have to hide it from the Mort-er I mean Humans" trope is so stale to Percy that whenever he sees it the thought of flooding a publishing house briefly flickers through his mind. It's literally how he lives his life, so he hates urban fantasy. Though he would fucking LOVE Shadowrun, because while it is Urban Fantasy. It's not in the genre of 99.9% of urban fantasy, and it's different enough to his actual outside life that he can immerse himself in it. ______________________________________________________________ Annabeth: Okay, now for the easiest. In fact the reasons why she likes these games are so obvious that I don't feel like I need to explain myself. So let's just go on. SimCity, obviously, City Skylines, and...

Minecraft. "But, doesn't Minecraft have spiders?" Yes. That's why she uses creative mode. I don't think she'd be all in on survival, but creative? That's where she's designing some of her architectural projects in, she's got a LOT of building block and furniture mods I just know it. Honestly, now that I think of it, Annabeth would enjoy Rimworld.

______________________________________________________________ Frank: Civ. Frank plays Civilization and will lose DAYS of his life micro managing his cities. He has that same overly tactical mind, like Annabeth. However that's where they differ. Annabeth doesn't want to think about fighting when she relaxes, so while Civ would be up her ally, she wouldn't enjoy it all the time. As for Frank? Civ relaxes him. Even when the AI is doing some FUCKING BULLSHIT MOVES. Stellaris? Yep. Hearts of Iron? Crusader Kings? Yes. Victoria? Again, a yep. Any strategy game and Frank is ALL in on it. ______________________________________________________________ Hazel: Honestly, she's the difficult one. Same with Nico, but I feel like Diablo would be a natural fit. It's not too hard to pick up and learn, but it's got enough to learn to keep her interested. Same with Path of Exile. Hazel also shares a game with Nico, but I'll explain when I get to him. Also she totally plays Animal Crossing with Frank.

______________________________________________________________ Nico: Again, another tough one, or so I thought. Behold. FALLOUT. No seriously. Fallout would be PERFECT for Nico. He's literally from the time period, or close enough that he's almost certainly heard a fair number of the radio tracks featured in game. Fallout 3 would be a literal head trip for him, and the satirical nature of the games, the "I don't know what the fuck is going on, and what the fuck happened?" feeling that ALL of the protagonists have makes Nico (and Hazel) feel right at home. If anyone can relate to that, it's them. He totally plays Quake and DOOM though. ______________________________________________________________ Will: Will's the one that plays Animal Crossing. Well, not just Animal Crossing. Terraria? Stardew Valley? Also a yes. Will has a stressful job, so he's not interested in playing anything that's gonna stress him out. He def has a Minecraft world with Nico. While Will builds in more "modern" and bright color pallet. Nico is over there building elaborate gothic castles like it's nothing. Oh and LEGO Star Wars, but that's a given. And Battlefront 2. If it's Star Wars he's playing it. ______________________________________________________________ Alex: Alex and Magnus strike me as anarchists. Maybe illegalists, but def anarchists. However for Alex, I think she would actually enjoy Deus Ex. The original. Like, the whole "fuck Capitalism" theme of the game just gets Alex all giddy in a "how the fuck did they get away with this?" way. (Like the first "bad guy" you meet starts ranting off about corporate consolidation and tax rates. I'M NOT JOKING.) Same reason why she would enjoy watching Andor. It's got the theming, but it's not done in a way like you're reading political theory. It's just passive fun, and a good story. So on that note. Def Deus Ex. Metal Gear? Yeah, that too. Mass Effect? Sure, it has gay people in it, and for the time that was huge. (Y'all might not remember the absolute shit show that ME1 got into back in the day) Both her and Magnus play Assassin's Creed together. I just know. And TESIII: Morrowind. Trust me on this. ______________________________________________________________ Magnus: Magnus doesn't like violence. So he and Will share a lot of the same games actually. The guy sees more violence and bloodshed on a daily basis than any one person could comprehend. So games without a lot of that? He's all in for trying. So he def likes mostly Nintendo titles, maybe not Mario, but Zelda is a huge favorite. LEGO games are another solid choice, and I think he would be quite fond of Guilty Gear. ______________________________________________________________ Leo: Leo likes to build and to tinker with things. So he's messing around with Minecraft Redstone, or creating some awkward machine in Besiege (remember when that was all the rage?). But Leo's absolute favorite (was a dead and relatively unknown mecha title until this month) is Armored Core. Armored Core is the perfect game for someone like Leo, spend hours and I mean hours, I'm not making that up, tinkering and tuning each and every fucking part of your mech...only to die, and having to do it all over again. And he loves every. fucking. second. of it.

Transition Diary #2

Another month has passed which means it's time for my second post closely documenting my ftm transition (for context: I plan on making such a post every month). You can find my first diary entry, where I documented being 1 month on testosterone, here:

I'm excited to share that, being two months on T (full dose, i.e. 12.5mg creme), some changes have become even more visible, whilst others have become less noticeable as I'm getting used to them - which I both find very positive. I do want to start with the most significant/visible change to me, which is my

Facial features: As mentioned last month, I especially see a (now much clearer) difference in photos, but even when looking in the mirror I feel like there has definitely been progress in the past few weeks! Also, after asking them, people have told me that my face looks more square-shaped now, rather than round, even if it's just slightly. I also had an interesting experience when I tried on the one wig I own, because instead of it making me look super-femme (as it's a long wig with bangs and it's what this wig usually did for me), I looked like some guy that someone slapped a wig on. This was so mind-blowing to me (and extremely affirming!) as it showcased that things actually have changed quite a bit.

Body composition: I feel like my body shape is slowly starting to change too. I've always had an extremely defined waist and, while it is still undoubtedly very pronounced, I feel like I'm slowly becoming a tad more square shaped there as well.

Voice: I feel like my voice def has been changing, however, this change is extremely gradually. On the one hand, I am kinda thankful for this fact because, as a singer, I was really worried about losing my ability to sing due to voice drop. But so far, I'm fine! And it seems that by keeping on practicing and due to the very gradual change, I can prevent any significant loss in singing ability. On the other hand, however, I also wish I'd sound more like a guy faster because voice dysphoria is real. All in all you could say that, after 2 months on T, I'm still left excited for sounding more like myself in the future.

Bottom growth: ...is still happening! It seems like I left the painful and hyper-hyper-sensitive phases in month #1 (for now), so now I get to enjoy my newly acquired micro-penis more - and it's really staring to look like a penis! However, cleaning it is a bit of a hassle, because gunk tends to gather up in the skin folds/foreskin, and I am still quite sensitive so washing it feels uncomfortable. However, it is still one of the most fun changes for me, as I really enjoy the sexual aspects of this change (i.e. the feeling of getting hard; being able to jerk it instead of just rubbing; and generally just feeling like something is actually THERE which is not only affirming but also sexy asf).

Body odor: Whilst this was undoubtedly one of the most puzzling changes in month #1, it seems like I have completely gotten used to my new odor because I cannot smell myself anymore (i.e. I just smell 'normal' to myself again). I also feel like the amount of sweating is still similar to my pre-T level, however, I feel like I don't get cold as fast these days.

Off the Cuff 25/04/2024

Had a lot of things I wanted to talk about but I figured I'd talk about games and tier lists instead, because I realized, while talking to some people, that a lot of people don't understand tier lists.

"tires don exits"

Is a load of crock. Tiers do exist and they are there to show players where things stand relative to each other, how well they're expected to do against each other with their kits, and most importantly if you're getting into a new hobby and you like everything just enough that you can't decide, to help you save money.

This does not mean that tiers are absolute and should be taken as scripture.

Tiers are ultimately guidelines and should only be treated as such. A deeper analysis is generally needed if you're interested in actually making your money's worth/ knowing what you're doing.

Take for example, Honkai Star Rail. For this example, I'll be using Fire TB, Gepard and then add in Aventurine.

Fire TB -> gets shields with every action, shields are very small Gepard -> biggest shields but only when he ults, has higher aggro Aventurine -> weaker shields than Gepard, but uses skill points instead of ult. Also grants Eff Res 50% and allows Aventurine to block CC. Stacks. Also builds up to a follow up attack that does some damage.

If we were to look at things like this, Aventurine becomes the top tier pick, with Gepard coming in second and Fire TB suffering the fate of every f2p gacha protagonist.

However, FireTB has one thing neither of the others have, which is a Taunt. Which in turn guarantees that single target attacks and blast attacks target her, thus saving 2-3 team members from damage.

Additionally, both FireTB and Gepard can gain their shields outside of their turn, so they both have an emergency button built into their kit that Aventurine doesn't.

The question then becomes... how do you even weight this against each other? One could argue that FireTB is still the weakest due to her shields being very small, but they're sufficient in blocking most of the small hits that'll hit your party, even in MoC12, assuming she's actually built and RNG didn't just give you a ton of HP on your gear instead of DEF.

((Key words: small hits. The gorilla slam is not a small hit.))

And more importantly, she has a Taunt. A skill that tells you in advance where the damage is going to be distributed, which, I'm sure for those who've played HSR and other games like it would know, is invaluable. She can also generate a lot of skill points, as even her attacks give shields.

On the flip side, Gepard can freeze your targets whenever you've got skill points to spare, thus allowing you to delay incoming damage by just a bit and maybe give another team mate a turn. A lot of the time that's enough to get in another DoT, a Break, or maybe even a Luocha heal charge.

Yet despite all that, Aventurine guarantees that you've got shields every turn as long as you can spare the skill points, and his shields are more effective than TB's, and Eff Res., despite ((likely)) being multiplicative, is still better than having nothing but base Eff. Res in a game that's going to have more status effects. But running him may limit the amount of skill points available at any given time, and anyone who's played games like HSR will tell you that resource starvation is one of the worst things that could happen to you.

A look at any tier list would tell you what's strongest, but when laid out it becomes terribly difficult to truly judge.

It becomes extra difficult, but most importantly interesting, when you realize what it is you're weighing. But equally as important is looking at things in the macro as well as the micro. Perhaps you've already got very good sustains. Then why consider Aventurine? You don't need another sustain. You could be lacking in carries, buffers or debuffers who could all be ranked lower on the tier lists, yet would significantly better your account position to clear hard content.

Note, it is important to always zoom in and out in all topics, especially those pertaining to real life, I'm just pointing out that you really need to do this if you want to know what you're doing.

I wanted to talk about some light cones as an example, but as this is long enough, I'll end it here.

Syd!!!!!! Ohhhh my gooodddd I’ve been playing BG3 for the last week and I’m in loveeeee!!! I’ve spent 32 hours in act one alone (still playing through it, I’m going over everything with a micro vacuum as to not miss anything) and I still don’t know who I’m going to end up romancing, so far Astarion and Shadowheart are the contenders but I love the walking tragedy that is Gale… I was devastated to learn that we can’t be in a throuple with Shadowheart and Astarion, but alas the baby girl wants me all to herself!!!

Who did you end up romancing and why?!?! I’m so curious to hear who all of my friends ended up with, so far they’ve all been so different!

YESSS same!!! it's totally taken over my brain and i've become sooo normal about like. all the characters. i've been looking at the charts about who will allow you to have relationships with other characters because i want to eventually kiss them all i'm just choosing in what order. it sucks that the origin characters won't let you be in relationships with other origin characters, Shadowheart and Astarion would be perfect for an edgy throuple. you'll have to tell me who you choose!!!

My first romance was Gale by pure accident. I thought he was a fun sidekick and then when i got deeper into his story i just liked him more and more, i loved Astarion but since my first Tav made good choices he is not a fan of her lol. Gale was easy to fall for after having him in my party for so long, he's so sweet and caring i just want him to hold me. his voice actor is def a huge part of why i love him so much. the fact that he's just a walking tragedy definitely added to how much i enjoy him, like babygirl stay with me i can fix you <3 My second character is making all the evil fucked up choices and she's def gonna romance Astarion. Her name is Ratt and she sucks and i want them to be fucked up together. I want to get to Halsin too because ohhhh my god he's so big and large <3 the voice actors went insanely hard and i want to hear every dialogue option with all of them. larian killed it with these characters i can't decide which one i want more.

Hii random long question but... I'm starting to write a short piece on how the world treats "ugly" people. Ugly as in not fitting society standards of beauty, wether that may be being ugly, fat, hairy, unkempt, etc... I wanted to ask: is there anything that from your experience is "missing" when talking about these topics? Or any piece of advice you'd give people dealing with the hate the world gives them so they can heal or not sabotage themselves?

(btw when you read that message... pls don't think i'm calling you ugly, someone else pointed it out to me that that's what it sounded like and it's sooooo far from the truth. i just think you are kind and am interested in your insights akdsjafhd)

I'm only a random person, and not any kind of scholar when it comes to the subject. I don't even have much personal experience with this really. but I've learned a lot about this subject second-hand, so I can offer a few personal opinions off the top of my head. just know I'm not the end-all source for this stuff

1.‎‏‏‎ ‎make it clear that "ugly" and "pretty" (and all similar descriptors) originate from eurocentric beauty standards, christian morality, ableism, lgbt-phobia, classism and etc. these are not innate facts about humanity, but learned and enforced biases. this is especially important within the context of people "reclaiming" ugliness, or making points that "it's ok to be ugly". on an individual level, I don't think this is necessarily harmful, but it's a very tight rope to walk because the moment you insinuate any one feature is inherently "ugly", you've already lost. there are no ugly features, only features which fail to live up to white/christian/ablebodied/cishet/upper class/ etc expectations. this subject, and the oppression of minorities, absolutely overlap, and it's dishonest to not include that at the center of this discussion.

2. in general, I think a lot of the body positivity movement is too sanitized in a lot of the ways, and doesn't really touch on the more stigmatized ways someone could be considered "ugly" by society. "diverse" underwear models are still models. they're still beautified by professional stylists and airbrushed in photoshop. it's better than nothing for sure, but they don't look like real people who ride the bus. what about people with facial differences? people who are unkempt/unwashed? people who are fat and gnc in casual clothes? or all of these traits at once? I don't see a lot of (mainstream) celebration of these traits, or of similarly marginalized experiences, but I see plenty of vitriol against them on the daily.

3. a lot of discussion about "ugliness" or about body positivity, talks about self love and self care. but self esteem issues are the symptom, not the disease. the truth is if you are deemed "ugly" by society, you face material discrimination. (again, note how this overlaps with racism, classism, ableism, etc). you can be denied anything from employment to simple kindness. the topic of "ugliness"/"prettiness" is not a superficial one, but very serious and often life defining.

as for "advice", I really can't think of anything meaningful other than find a community you feel safe in. something great about the internet is you have access to so many micro-movements and subcultures, and regardless of what you're dealing with there are going to be other people out there who are willing to love and accept you and who may even share the same struggles.

idk, I hope this is what you were looking for/that this helps in some way. but this is a complicated topic, and I'd def recommend finding some scholarly articles or books on it if you can too, for more sound sources

(Not so) Micro BL (mostly) Reviews

It's that time again; I've been watching things and I want to talk about them. So here I go.

These are all shows that I watched but for whatever reason did not (or am not, in the case of the currently watching ones) liveblogging week to week. Mostly they're binge watches so make of that what you will. I would love and welcome discussions about any of them, if anyone wants.

Watched - New to Me

Tonhon Chonlatee - Did I watch this entirely for Khaotung? Yep. Am I sorry? Not really. Did I wind up shipping Na and Chonlatee way way harder than Tonhon and Chonlatee in spite of myself? Oh, most def. So when are Neo and Khao gonna get a BL, huh?

I am glad the horrible former faen trope is slowly dying out, though. Really couldn't stand Amp, but then again I was way more offended by the attempted SA followed by literally nothing (and by the fact that Amp was somehow worse than the person actually trying to SA Chonlatee, like no. NO nononono). Also incredibly incredibly annoyed with the whole "I will kiss you to prove I'm a man who isn't afraid of women" thing. Nope, sorry. It was dumb, I'm calling it out as dumb, Ton is just lucky Chon loved him too much to keep staying mad at him because that's a dumping offense, my friend.

I liked Chon's spine, though. Khao is so tiny and fox faced that it would be very easy to play into that and have Chon be this sweet, spineless little thing that can't stand up for himself and that  Ton has to protect constantly. And in some ways he does, although I think the show does a really good job of showing that Chon is more than capable of taking care of himself. I liked that.

Honestly I just feel like the writing failed both Pod and Khao. They did what they could with what they had, but Pod especially could have had so much more. There was so much meat there that they just…didn't let the man chew, and I saw nothing that made me think that he couldn't.

The chemistry between them was good though, even if I am one of the (few? Idk I have no idea how people see this show) people who liked Na for Chon better. Na was actually my favorite character, and in the end I'm pretty sure I was only watching for him. Final verdict 5/10. I would probably have forgotten about it already except I keep coming across that set of gifs. You know the one. A+ gifs, 10/10 no notes.

The Warp Effect - This was my second drama ever from Jojo, and I loved it so much. I enjoyed all the characters, especially Jean and Mollie, and I loved the relationships and the way that Alex had to navigate his new (to him) adult life as an asshole after (essentially) passing out as a fairly earnest, well-meaning seventeen year old. I adored the things the show had to say about sexuality, about gender, about the way people who don't conform to expectations (in whatever way that is) are treated.

I loved how it continuously pointed out the hypocrisy towards women in particular (there are several examples of this, but I am thinking particularly of how Jean was treated after the party vs. how Alex was. I love that the show made a point of explicitly stating how messed up the disparate reactions were, and how unfair. I also liked that despite following Alex as he goes on this journey, the show never attempted to pretend that he was the wronged party in that situation. Neither did Alex himself, which was refreshing). I'm not used to that from my shows, full stop.

I loved how queer friendly it was. I have read over and over again that it is one of the queerest shows people have seen, despite focusing mostly on a het dude. And you know what? They were right.

I spent eleven episodes loving this show with everything that I am, so enthralled with it that I did nothing else but binge it over the course of like a day and a half (if it hadn't been a work night I probably would have stayed up just to finish it, that's how hooked I was). And then…the final episode. I have to say that it disappointed me.

I am one who puts a lot of stock in an ending. A great ending can elevate a drama for me, a bad one can kill it stone dead. The Warp Effect didn't kill things, but it disappointed me. It felt like the show was saying something really interesting about forgiveness using Alex and Jean, about how sometimes you do things in your life that can't be forgiven. That sometimes things happen and the best you can do for the person you wronged is to step the fuck back like she's asked you to and let her try to forget.

But nope, Alex gets to go back in time and wisely fix all his friends problems and never have that awful encounter with Jean. And everything ends in a pat, happy way that kind of set my teeth on edge. If not for the fact that Jean (my darling) didn't deserve what happened to her I might have disliked it more, but the truth is that she didn't deserve it, and I'm happy for the unambiguously happy ending for that and that alone. No clue how prevalent this opinion is but knowing how my opinions tend do go I'm guessing not very, ha. Final score 8/10 - yes I docked it two points for the ending, I said they can make or break things for me.

Step By Step - I will watch any and every office BL that I am given. Do you hear me? Any. And. Every. Except A Boos and A Babe, oops (does it count if I tried because it was an office set BL and then just bounced off hard? I'm counting it).

Anyway, tangent. The point I'm making here is that I was never going to not give this a shot. And I am glad I did. It wasn't my favorite thing but I was happy to see it actually tackle the realities of what it look s like when you're dating your boss. The way that all the crap rolled onto Pat was very true to life, if painful to watch, and I appreciated the show for going there.

I was also kind of unimpressed with the time skip BUT that's only because it happened in the dreaded episode eleven and I would have liked more time with the 2 years later Jeng and Pat. Ah well, it was still cute. 7/10

Enchanté - Watched this because I was curious about Force & Book after I bounced off of A Boss and A Babe (and since they are in one of my most anticipated dramas of the year, possibly as the main main couple but definitely as one of them). I was curious if I would bounce off of them here as well, because if so that probably wouldn't bode well for the future.

And? I liked it. I liked the bickery romantic tension between them (I blame my misspent youth and all those slap slap kiss shows from when I was a wee, impressionable thing too long ago to want to talk about). I was highly annoyed at the beginning when it seemed like eight hundred different men wanted to date Theo (as well as incredibly baffled why Theo was so damned into this dude who wrote two whole sentences in a book with him. But I have no romance in my soul so I was willing to let that part go) because I start to get twitchy at two, let alone literally every guy he talks to. But once that mystery started unraveling and we started learning what was going on with all these dudes, I liked it a lot more. And I don't know if Be My Favorite has made me appreciate Gawin more (yes, definitely) or if I was just way too hard on him in Not Me (maybe, idk I still think he was kind of drippy), but I really enjoyed him in this one, too. Yes, even with the singing. Gawin for me is a rarity because frankly, he can actually carry a tune. I will never understand what's with making all these BL boys sing and dance. Sometimes you just aren't a triple threat, and that's okay.

Anyway remember my endings problem? Yeah, didn’t love this one. I mean, fine, chase your love interest all the way to fair Paris because he's having a crisis about his parents (and honestly, that part I really liked? I liked how selfish he was about it. Idk it just worked for me), I would have let him run off and found someone else but as I said I have no romance in my soul. 7.5/10

Naked Dining / Zenra Meshi / 全ラ飯 - Cute, but. I found myself really really annoyed by all the misunderstandings. This never happens to me, I love a good misunderstanding or three, but my gosh there just comes a point when you need to stop making assumptions and talk, my guys. Food porn was good, though. 6/10

Hello Stranger - Baby's first Pinoy BL! So I guess this is in the same vein as Gameboys, but I did not see that one, and I found this charming. The leads were adorable, and I do have a fondness for shows told almost completely via skype. Look, I still haven't seen enough of them for the novelty to have worn off. The mix of Tagalog and English was a little hard to adjust to at first but after a couple eps I got there. It was just a cute, breezy little thing that was easily digestible and I'm happy I watched it, although to be frank I probably won't put it into my rotation. 8/10

Dear Doctor, I'm Coming for Soul -

While I really enjoyed most of it, I feel like it fell apart for me at the end and I'm having a hard time articulating why.

I think it might be the reincarnation bit. While I get what the show was going for there, what are we saying, exactly? Is Tua gonna wait now until Prakan is of age before showing up to be his boyfriend again? Are they gonna go back to phi and nong until then? Or is Tua gonna watch Prakan like he's straight out of a Police song without speaking to him for the next 5/6 years? My problem isn't even really with the idea that Tua and Prakan will continue to meet in all of Prakan's lifetimes until perhaps Tua's time as a reaper is over and they can be reborn in the same timeline again and maybe be together for real. I think it's the idea of them both waiting around for Prakan's minor clock to expire that's doing it. I feel like Goblin did this trope better. Personally I loved Tua and Prakan being together until he passed, and for me, I think that the show would have been stronger overall if they had left it at that and not done the end bit with the new Prakan.

That said, the child actor who played young!Prakan was stellar and I hope that he has been getting steady work. I have to say that in a lot of the Thai dramas I've watched, the child actors have been standouts.

Other than that, I did really enjoy the drama. It was interesting and I liked seeing Yacht play a character that wasn't super Pond-esque for once. I did feel watching Between Us that he could do better, if given the material (not his fault, Between Us had too many side couples, both he and his partner did what they could with what they had), and I'm happy to see I was right. Metha actually became one of my favorite characters - he had a whole arc from conflicted asshole to loosening up and remembering that he actually loved his friends/realizing his uncle had manipulated him into hating Prakan for his own personal gain, and Yacht did a really good job with playing both the asshole and the decent dude beneath.

I saw a lot of comments complaining about Prakan's inability to be mature regarding Tua's job, but I think that for the most part it was actually fairly believable a reaction, especially after his mom died. And it would be hard for me to deal with the idea that death can be around any corner no matter how hard I try to prevent it, let alone someone for whom that is their entire job.

I was annoyed, however, by the weird ep 11 (I think, might have been 10) "Nuch could die" plot, simply because it was so late in the game, took up so little time, and seemed like a plot device just to get Metha to finally tell her he loved her. Annoying and pointless. Wasn't needed - he could have done it a million other ways.

Enjoyed the couple of Kheeta and Nathee as well - Nathee was another one that did a 180 as the show progressed, but unfortunately I believed his less than I did Metha's, mostly because I just don't think the actor is as good. He was kind of a weak link in Between Us too, although I think I enjoyed him in Even Sun? I can't remember (and just as I said that I did remember, and no, he wasn't one of my favorites in that either. But the less said about Even Sun the better, really). Still, the whole plot for them is one of my bulletproof tropes. It would take a lot for me not to be into it.

Overall though, I enjoyed it. It kept me extremely engaged and made me cry more than once, and up until the last let's say half episode it really worked for me. 8/10

Rewatched

He's Coming to Me - Seeing everyone talk about this lately made me want to rewatch it, and aw, I forgot how much I loved it. It truly is a gem of a show, and I am glad that a lot of people are talking up how good it is lately. Ohm especially really shines.

What a gem this show is. I really enjoyed the slow burn between Med and Thun, and I liked that it went hand in hand with Thun's realization that he was gay. Really enjoyed how supportive his friends and mom were about it, too. Just a really lovely group of people all around.

Another thing that was fun was the mystery of how Med died. I liked that once Thun decided to help him find out he was all in, willing to help him pretty much no matter what. I honestly don't know if I guessed the mom thing or just remembered it from before but that was a kind of hilarious twist - well mom, I'm in love with your ex who's been a ghost for twenty years. Blessings?

The one thing that knocked this down for me was the whole story with the grandpa/uncle. I think I will never get used to these dramas downplaying things that seem like a pretty big deal to me. Manipulate your student into committing literal crimes and nearly drive him crazy with the pressure of holding up an impossible standard? It's okay, you have trauma too so we understand! Deliberately sabotage your son's happiness so that you can make your marriage scheme become reality? All's well that ends well! Plot and then actually go ahead and murder your own nephew, or at the very least orchestrate events so he could die? We can't change the past, all we can do is hope for a better future! Clearly I take these things too seriously.

Overall though, I really did have a good time. I thought that the chemistry between everyone was excellent, not just the two main characters but the entire cast, and I think the eight episode run time worked in its favor because it kept the show from ever feeling bloated, or like they were trying to find things to do to fill time. And the ending, while bittersweet in its way, is perfect for them. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable show, and I'm very glad I decided to watch it again.

Currently Watching, Sans Liveblogging

Laws of Attraction - I am LOVING this. I did not expect to from the trailer, but nope. I'm hooked. It's got plenty of time to off the rails I guess, since it just started, but I'm not even sure I will care if it does, so long as our very cute lawyer keeps smiling and flirting (and then trying desperately to gtfo of the room whenever Tinn gets to close the whatever killed his ideals (mom was murdered and then the murderer got off? Drunk driver who got released due to a slick lawyer? It's definitely mom based, and I am very curious). The chemistry between the two leads is very very good, too. I've not seen them in anything else, but I might check out To Sir, With Love because I like them that much. Also Silvy Pavida is in this, and she was one of my favorite things about The Warp Effect. I gave out a little cheer when I saw her, and I hope she's in the show more.

Stay by my Side - Cute, has all the tropes. It's Taiwan so I expect it to be solid. Reminds me a bit of Master's Sun kdrama, but BL. That is not a criticism - I freaking love Master's Sun. Although our ghost repellent isn't aware that's what's happening in this one. I'm enjoying it a lot.

3 Will Be Free - I'm working my way through this, and am way more invested in Mae than the three main characters. Oops? If anything happens to her I will lose it.

The Jungle - MIX VILLAIN ERA GO. If it goes too far in the womanizing direction I will probably drop it, but otherwise I will stick around just to see if I am right and Hunter is the worst of the lot. It has a cast mostly filled with actors I like, and I have to admit I got a kick out of watching Lookjun play a character in love with Off's character again. Also they're giving Nanon the Gun Atthaphan treatment and having him play two people. Whee.

Wedding Plan - It's MAME. Enough said. No telling if at some point I'll have to drop it, but well. MAME. I hope the lesbian couple does more than coo at each other, though. Even if the cooing is indeed very cute.

Only Friends and Dangerous Romance are neck and neck in the race to get a premier date. My ideal would be to have them both released in August so I can have max messiness and angst to finish out my summer.

23.5 is on Q5 so I expect we won't see it for a while, but I'm waiting and very excited. We need more GL and I adored Milk and Love in Bad Buddy - I shipped ink and Pa so hard and watching it become canon was one of the best times I've ever had. I'm also pretty jazzed that it looks like there's a second GL couple as well. Both View and June are actresses I like and I'm just very ready for this.

Also I watched the GMMTV 2023 lineup again and I think Last Twilight is now on my list too. Like I'll watch stuff like Cooking Crush when it comes out but I'm not really jazzed about it, lol. Last Twilight however has moved into my "I think I'm excited for this one" list.

How to Organize Your Flask Apps Using Blueprints

Flask is a simple, easy-to-use micro web framework for Python that can help you build scalable and secure web applications.

There are occasions when programmers will place all of their logic in a single file named app.py. Many tutorials can be found online that use the same format. But for a big app, it's not a good approach.

You are obviously going against the Single Duty Principle by doing this, which states that each component of your application should only be handling one responsibility.

If you've used Django, your project may have been broken up into many modules. Additionally, you may organise your Flask applications using Blueprints, a Python module-like built-in idea.

How a Flask Application Appearance?

Your project structure will like this if you construct a simple application using the Flask documentation:

Isn't the folder wonderfully organised? The only thing you have is an app.py file that contains all of the application functionality.

Let's look at the app.py file:

When you imagine that you have created a large-scale programme, doesn't that look messy? You have scattered your models and different routes throughout the same file.

How Do Blueprints Address the Issue?

Flask Blueprints now come into play in this scenario. By grouping the logic into subdirectories, blueprints aid in the structure of your application. Additionally, you can put the logic and static files  all in the same subdirectory.

Consequently, your similar application will now look like this because to Blueprints:

You can see that your concerns are well separated at this point. The logic for admin is located in the admin folder, the logic for products is located in the products folder, and so on.

Use of Blueprints

Now that you understand what problems Blueprints solves, let's see how we can use Blueprints in our applications.

Defining a Blueprint

In the admin/routes.py file, let's define our very first blueprint for the admin functionality:

You can import Blueprint from the Flask library because it is a built-in Flask concept. The first parameter when creating an object of the Blueprint class is the name you wish to give your Blueprint. Internal routing will later use this name, as we'll see below.

The second option is the Blueprint package's name, which is often __name__. This aids in locating the blueprint's root path.

Optional keyword arguments are supplied as the third and fourth parameters. You declare that you'll use blueprint-specific templates and static files by defining the template folder and static folder options.

How to Create Blueprint Routes

You may now use the blueprint you developed for the admin-related functionality when establishing routes for the admins.

Concentrate on the line where the route is specified in the given snippet. We have used @admin bp.route('...') rather than the typical @app.route('...'). This is how a route is connected to a certain blueprint.

Ways for Registering Your Blueprints

You currently have a route registered to a blueprint. But will your app be aware of this blueprint automatically?

So let's get going. We will construct a Flask app and register our blueprints there in the __init__.py file:

Using the register_blueprint() method and the blueprint's name, we register the blueprint. For even more customisation, you can also supply the procedure other parameters. One of these is url prefix, which you could need.

app.register_blueprint(admin, url_prefix='/admin')

Similar to that, if you have other blueprints, you can register them.

and no i totally get what you’re saying about being white-washed . like . i personally grew up in a very desi household with my culture literally ingrained into me so it’s just a big part of my life now BUT frankly it’s a miracle i maintained that growing up in a predominantly white neighborhood bc it’s not easy . when ppl around u look down on your culture at all times and are outright ignorant and racist it’s inevitable that you start to hide parts of yourself and in turn become white-washed so to speak? so while it’s unfortunate i don’t think it’s the fault of the individual by any means! plus there’s a difference between looking down on your culture and not being in touch with it. the bashing of whitewashed poc def needs to stop bc it’s more often than not bc of the environment and assimilation and all that jazz 🙄🙄 it’s quite counter productive to bash and rather shouldnt you try to “remedy” by helping them learn about their culture rather than looking down on them? OKAY now i’ve gotten carried away but basically i completely agree with u !!!

(also i’ve heard of that movie and it sounds super interesting!!! i’ve been meaning to watch it actually)

okieee so like I know you didn’t ask for any recs but here are some of my fave malayalam movies: manichitrathazou, swapnakoodu, and classmates. no pressure to watch any of these lol I just thought I’d mention them, most are older movies cause they’re what my parents would put on when I was younger. and yes kerala is honestly so gorgeous, I haven’t been in so long, but me and roommate talk about going to kerala specifically all the time cause she’s from punjab and she’s like shawna take me lol

but yesss. I know I said I wasn’t gonna talk about this but uh here we go. I mean honestly youve summed up everything I could say. I have distinct memories of growing up and wishing I was white. like people were never racist to me (that I knew of) but it was this sense of isolation. looking around a classroom and not seeing one other person who looked the way I did was very alienating. so I think, especially when you’re younger, it’s so easy to fall into this trap of subconsciously distancing yourself from your culture. but then the older I get, the more I learn to appreciate my culture instead of feeling this shame and in turn repress it. and ive had a lot of people tell me that because I’m so removed from my culture it makes me less indian or desi than them, but that’s really not how it works, like at all. it’s as you said, learning and coming to love your culture later in life should really be encouraged instead of looked down upon. like maybe i know less of the language and less of the music and less of the movies, but that doesn’t invalidate my experiences as a first gen immigrant and as a poc. and that most definitely doesn’t make me any less Indian. im still allowed to learn about and appreciate a culture that’s literally mine.
