10 minutes after the confrontation. your mother called you that night, a few minutes after you left your home.

it was exactly what you didn't need at the time. that endless lecture, one of the thousands she had been giving you since you were little. those words full of venom had lost their importance to you over the years.

all the time the same slanders, the same insults, the same belittling. but it was all your fault, right ?

you were disappointing your family to get your way. how selfish were you?

thanks to your rich parents, you had married a wealthy and influential man in this society. just go to the gala with him, smile at the reporters. be presentable.

and yet that's what you tried to do. for months, for years. you wanted to be perfect for him, for this man. but did he even acknowledge the fact that you were living in the same fucking house ? of course no. so, divorce you from shoto todoroki ? do it, do it and you will be disinherited.

is that what you really want ? to please your family, stay unhappy with this todoroki.

it's the least you can do. you were a spoiled brat, no better than your father said you mother. why didn't you take a cue from your older sister and brother ? they seemed to have made it in life, unlike you.

so don't complain, you had only one purpose in life. just one, it's not too much to ask. to marry a rich young man from high society to raise his children and continue the y/l/n dynasty.

instead you went to law school, studied instead of slutting around with the bourgeois sons of your family friends.

you succeeded, you created your own name, not the name of your maiden or your future husband. you created this image of an influential person. confident, arrogant, the men were at your feet. but then shoto came.

you knew him from afar, a friend of a friend of your father's apparently. the young man was polite at every event, gala. well-bred, intelligent, charismatic, eloquent.

how could you not fall in love with him ?

then you were married to him. and he only needed that haughty look to destroy all those years of work.

he made you feel like a kid by his side, a spoiled, naive and reckless child. that ridicule and shame he made you feel when you had done something you were proud of.

this feeling of inferiority that you had managed to escape from your family, you had found it again with this frightening man. you had become the clown in your own house, the servants must have laughed at your domestic scenes.

he had succeeded in making you forget your wedding anniversary, savoring the pleasures that a man can give you with a simple compliment, or even a small sign of affection. the todoroki had always been a respected, even feared name. because of the father, now because of the son.

so, you were a fool to develop ever stronger feelings for him. ever bigger.

but it wasn't your fault, your parents didn't show you any love, any gesture of affection, you didn't talk that much except for business and inheritance.

their love was cold. reserved, distant. you knew they loved you, and that was enough for you.

you were used to that kind of affection, that was your definition of love.

that's why you were so easily attracted to those who didn't deserve you. those who so easily played on your true love. so easily in love with shoto todoroki and his cold love. that's what you knew well. you felt protected with that, and in danger when they gave you too much. too bad it wasn't reciprocated.

too bad you couldn't see that green jealousy tinting katsuki's cheeks. oh let's talk about katsuki.

that poor idiot who had made this rivalry in his head between him and shoto. he hated him for treating you so badly, neglecting such an extraordinary person as you. what did he see in momo that he didn't see in you ?

this asshole must have had very few neurons to miss the treasure that you were.

but he hated you too. how could you fall in love with him ? when katsuki was standing right in front of you ?

bakugou started from nothing, created this company, built a flourishing empire. and now he's playing with billions of dollars so he can approach you and your family with dignity at the most coveted galas of the moment in all of east asia. fuck, for you, y/n, he even became the enemy of shoto todoroki !

and all you did was complain that shoto didn't compliment your outfit or your new hairstyle. you were brainwashed. he knew that you would always return to shoto like a dog to his master. that all shoto had to do was whistle for you to come back and beg him to let you love him, again and again.

he love you sincerely, it's so pure, so loyal. and itd be the most genuine passion you would ever meet again. but his desire to destroy the todoroki son far exceeded his love for you, y/n.

what a pathetic fate. even in the eyes of your soulmate, between you and revenge, you would be the second choice.

todoroki was standing outside his window with a glass of scotch in his hand. he saw you leaving in the arms of your charming knight, now fleeing him like the plague.

katsuki was waiting for you in his luxury car, ready to take you to your so-called business meeting. seeing you walk away from him, from your home, to throw yourself into the lion's den.

he wasn't jealous, he wasn't happy either. he did not feel lighter or heavier. it's strange, it can't be explained. shoto finally got what he wanted for years. to see you go. and yet.

he turned his head slowly as he saw the car leave the property. his gaze fell on the bed, he foolishly expected to see you in your nightie on the bed, asleep on the edge of the bed. a tired sigh escaped from his lips. the same sentence ran round and round in his head.

you hadn't learned anything from your mistakes. you were always running to rich men who didn't care about you. like him, like bakugou katsuki.

he was almost tempted to look back you. it's true, even though, you had always been a pain in the ass for him.

what did he owe you now ?

"a couple of jerks, what a great pair. tell me you're going to win all her money in the divorce." sighs momo at his side.

shoto had his back to her, now following with his eyes the tiny point of light that was bakugou's car.

"i don't know. but at least we're free of that pain in the ass. she's gone." he says, almost whispering.

the young man put the pen on the desk, close to the sheet of paper that now contained your two signatures.

Hmmm... Complicated ask, anon.😂

[My personal life would be splashed here and there. Please bear with me]

Before 5 months, if you asked me about Naruto, my response would be ‘What the fuck is that?’. I absolutely had no idea such a treasure existed. For me, it started out like a blockbuster movie for the sheer variety of fights and the resulting emotions it brought within me.

However, there was a point I stopped and thought, ‘Wait a fucking second. This resembles my family dynamics. This person is speaking the exact same lines I spoke to my parents few years ago. This person’s situation resembles mine. Did this creator a time traveler?’. Naruto is the only piece of media that gave me such feel. Am not even exaggerating, believe me.

I really liked so many characters very much but am going to try my best to list just 10.

The only characters I hate in this series are Danzo, Sakura and Hinata in no particular order. Meaning, I absolutely cannot see any positives in them. They are crassy, cringey and completely detestable.

FAVOURITE NARUTO CHARACTERS

10. Killer Bee

HaHaHa :-) Just seeing this character makes me smile and light-hearted.

It’s a pity that he is the only character who don’t belong to Konoha in my Top 10 rankings who was developed well apart from Gaara.

I loved him from Frame 1 onwards and I sincerely wished Team Taka should be packed up with their ass beaten up mercilessly. And that’s what happened.

Despite being a Jinchurikki, he never bothered to mind his surroundings and filled his heart with love from his over protective Brother alone was nice to watch.

He makes a great Tag Partner with Naruto next to Sasuke. No doubt.

The way Killer Bee treated Team Taka like some annoying flies and his cool and don’t care attitude was top notch. It’s not just with Sasuke, Bee treated Naruto with the same IDGAF attitude at first.

Best Moments:

Lariat punch to Sasuke (TBH, Sasuke deserved it. LOL)

Blasted off every member of Team Taka like a doll

His entire conversation and fight sequence with Kisame (Their banters and exchanges are way too hilarious)

His dynamics with his Elder Brother (God!!!! Whenever Raikage gives him an Iron Claw.... What a hilarious duo!!!!)

9. Hatake Kakashi

Kakashi was my most favourite character when I started the series for simply being ultra-cool with the way he conducted the Bell-Test and taught a valuable lesson for those bratty kids in Team 7 called ‘Team Work’.

Best Moments:

Kakashi vs Obito Hand-to-Hand Combat (the best in the series)

Kakashi in the Gaara retrieval arc (His fight with Itachi & Deidara gave a good start to the shippuden series. His Mangekyou reveal was surprising).

Kakashi & Guy teaming up with Naruto to reveal Obito in a twisty and tragic way. (Kakashi couldn’t handle the truth at all and neither did I)

Kakashi vs Zabuza (That’s when I realized that the series was getting real serious)

8. Jiraiya

Jiraiya was my next favourite to Kakashi during my Part 1 days. His open perversion and his entire dynamics with Naruto was one of the best things during the Chunin Exams arc. Taught Naruto about Chakra Control and about the way of a shinobi by just enduring. Naruto follows this even today.

Best Moments:

Kuchiyose No Jutsu training (Man, I never expected him to push Naruto off the cliff)

Rasengan Training (One of the best arcs in part 1 and it was soo satisfying to see Naruto punching his first Rasengan on Kabuto, He also acted like a quasi parent to Naruto... heartwarming)

Jiraiya Vs Six paths of Pain ( 6 vs 1 was always doomed but still he had the guts of a shinobi and plunged ahead)

7. Uchiha Madara

Geez. What is there to not like him??

Everything he did was absolutely wrong ever since he broke up with Hashirama in a romantic way much similar to how couples break up in my country.

I am an Uchiha. You are a Senju. I wish it had been different.

This roughly translates to how 75% of lovers break up and marry someone else from their own clan in my state. (Duh!!!)

I am from XXX clan, you are from XXX clan. So we can’t love each other and my parents won’t accept this relationship. So let’s break up.

Alright, my first shipping couple in this series is HashiMada for this exact reason. (I started shipping SNS only after episode 478).

Just like Hashirama, Madara had an extensive build up right from episode 1 where Kurama compares Sasuke with Madara. And flashbacks from Itachi and Tobi spiked my curiosity and I wanted to see his face so badly ever since.

But the moment he landed gracefully like a diva in episode 321.... Woaahhhh!!!! He literally danced in the battlefield and ate up 100′s of guys with just a fucking Sharingan.

Best Moments:

Going Shirtless before 1000′s of people with Hashirama’s face, no less (Well, I literally went heart-eyed for 5 minutes. Sorry Sasuke, your ancester was way much sexier than you in the Orochimaru hideout and beats you by a million points).

Screaming Hashirama’s name like a cockatoo for 300 times even till the very end (Sorry Naruto, your obsession towards Sasuke for about 6 arcs is pale in comparison to Madara’s obsession which was established in just 6 or 7 episodes.)

I have 25 clones now. Do you want me to put Susanoo or not? You can’t answer. The answer is yes. (Man, his I don’t give a fuck attitude is just an alien level thing)

Openly admitting Only Hashirama Can Beat Me (Say what you will about Sasuke, Madara has no qualms about accepting his inferiority in terms of power. An absolute Straight Forward diva-queen)

Awakening Sharingan for breaking up with his ‘friend’ rather than for his 3 dead brothers. (Geez, Poor Soul. He is the forefather of a Romantic Uchiha. That romantic blood still flows in Sasuke)

6. Senju Hashirama

Man, I would have placed him somewhere in top 5 if only he was introduced early or had more scenes. I started watching Naruto only because of this very name. There is a local podcaster in my state who goes under the alias of Senju Hashirama and in his podcasts, he hinted about this character and how he was inspired by his ideals. I just googled and saw that this character belonged to Naruto series and I considered watching it. Here I am, making analysis on that very series.

There was this excellent build up for him right when we got introduced to Captain Yamato. He was constantly referred in flashbacks from Itachi and Tobi especially.

But the moment he was reanimated again..... Geez..... It was an hilarious ride all throughout. Out of all the flashbacks we got from this series, Founders Era flashback was my absolute favourite.

From where I come from, we are still under the stupid influence of Clan infrastructure and are not growing up in many aspects like people in western countries do. For me, I hope, one day, someone like Senju Hashirama appears in our state and change our lives for better by uniting all clans as one and treats everyone equally without the shitty favouritism for their own children, friends, parents, siblings.

That’s why this dialogue struck a thunder in my heart

“Be they a friend.... Be they a sibling.... Be it even my own child. I will not forgive anyone who threatens the village.”

Because the clan leaders in our place are absolutely selfish, trash bastards who serves their own needs with no regards for other people from other clans. For a person like me, Hashirama is not just a fictional hero, he is someone who many aspires to become. No wonder that podcaster chose this name as his alias.

He rightfully deserved the title ‘God of Shinobi’. And no one can surpass him, not even Naruto.

Best Moments:

Wood Style vs Eternal Mangekyou sharingan + Kurama powered Madara (He just beats Madara’s ass by a wide margin. This shows he was a whole fucking different level than Naruto + Sasuke combined. In terms of strength, nobody surpassed him YET. Sorry Naruto and Sasuke, you guys are no match even now with your Rinnegan and Kurama lost forever).

His entire banters with Madara (ROFLLLL. Without him, it would have been just another lifeless arc.)

5. Senju Tobirama

Hmmm, let me tell you something about him.

First off, he is not a racist or fascist as many hardcore Sasuke fanatics claims. He is one of the best hokages according to me. He is abso-fucking-lutely practical, rational, logical and holds no grudge. And Sasuke resembles Tobirama with all these characteristics as compared to soft and naive Naruto. If only he had more screen time, he would be easily in my top 3.

Just because he didn’t lick the boots of Uchiha (many people’s favorite clan or may I say the only clan that was given any shit about in this series), it doesn’t make him a racist or fascist.

No, he never persecuted the Uchihas. Danzo, the crass bastard, driven off the Uchihas only after the Kyuubi incident. It was explicitly mentioned in the databook and was clearly explained in the series.

He literally gave the highest position in the village for the entire clan. That is, a military power inside a military village. ‘Shinobi who can cause crimes can only be stopped by shinobi who are even better’. In my state, if a powerful clan decided to persecute another clan, they simply start by cutting off basic amenities like Water and Electricity. Compared to what I’ve seen, Tobirama did nothing but given the Uchihas, the highest position in their village.

Orochimaru only said giving such a power made them conceited (arrogant). Tobirama had a trusted subordinate called Kagami, an Uchiha in his team. He suggested Kabuto to help Sasuke and even teleported him on his request. He even spited Madara for killing Sasuke, an Uchiha. He openly claimed Uchiha clan exceeds Senju in terms of Love. He openly appreciated Itachi and Kagami as someone who sees beyond their clan. In what world, would a racist or fascist do all this for a clan he hates???

Yes, he was cautious of Sasuke at first because he saw him with Orochimaru and even went full-on battle mode because of Sasuke’s carefree threat to destroy the village. But once he decided to go to the battlefield to fight Madara, he simply forgot everything that happened before and started to work with him as a comrade, and even helped him twice. In which world, a racist or fascist behave this way?

Believe me, a person like me who was grown with these clan politics surely can say who is a fascist. He was not. He was just cautious of them because of their ability to attain superpowers with just emotions alone. Let me ask you all this, ‘Would you be okay with people getting crazy powers whenever they are depressed?’. Being cautious is not racism. It really disrespects people who faced real oppression under fascism.

What Madara and Danzo did was a classical example of fascism.

And No, Izuna didn’t die only because of Tobirama. He died because Madara was too arrogant to instigate war with Senju clan. And this was way before forming Konoha. If Tobirama killed Izuna after the alliance between Uchiha and Senju, I would agree that he was a racist. Izuna lost his life just like any other Uchiha and Senju soldiers in that battlefield.

Just because he shitted your beloved ‘Sasuke-Kun’ doesn’t mean he is a racist too. Tobirama saw Sasuke along with that scoundrel Orochimaru who once used this very two hokages to destroy the very village they strived hard to create and protect. What will you do, if you were in his place?? Please don’t lie and say ‘I wouldn’t be judgemental’.

And Imagine you are Tobirama, Sasuke is threatening to commit genocide against the entire village who had no idea about this coup detat instead of going against those old hags. Will you sit quiet as a Hokage??

He was the first person to suggest his brother, Itama, that Revenge against Uchihas are futile. All we need is an agreement to make truce. That gave the idea for Hashirama to pursue his dream. And Tobirama was happy to follow that dream and very supportive.

It’s because of all these reasons I placed him above Senju Hashirama.

Best Moments:

Amazing power display against Sasuke & Co with just an index finger (It was a pleasure to see everyone’s face trembling with mild sweat including Sasuke).

Acted as a decoy to save his young subordinates. (The way he sacrificed his life saying young wills of fire must be protected is just Woow!! I wish his subordinates listened to his words and passed the mantle to the younger ones rather than playing game at such an old age and screwed up many lives. Pfft!!!)

Any time he says ‘Shut Up’ to Hashirama (ROFL)

His absolute ‘I don’t give a fuck’ attitude to Naruto, Sasuke, Hashirama, Minato and Madara (He trolled them all mercilessly and I love it)

4. Senju Tsunade

It hurts me to say that Tsunade is the only female character in my list because every other female characters were written in a much more piss poorly way. Only Konan came close to Tsunade but her role was very short.

Despite her character’s purpose revolved around another male character (Dan) and a blatant objectification of her breasts, I liked everything about her other than those mentioned above.

She is the Second Best Hokage who took Konoha right after the destruction made by Orochimaru, excellently handled the aftermath by making friendly relations with Suna (Sand village), provided her best medical support to Konoha in the Pain Arc and successfully handled the fourth Shinobi world war.

She is such a badass who developed her own original jutsu called Byakugou no Jutsu, which can heal herself.

She is just way too amazing and it’s a pity that we got very less scenes in Shippuden.

Best Moments:

Took 25+ stabs from Madara’s Susanoo like a piece of cake (Man, I simply couldn’t describe that scene. All the other Kages were shocked and even Madara too)

Lifted her advisors like a cabbage sack (Those fucking old hags deserved it. Those shits should’ve died)

Her index finger flick assault on Naruto (Aww, Naruto was definitely bratty in his first meeting and Tsunade didn’t hold back at all)

Played Orochimaru like a basketball (In that same arc, she fought Orochimaru mercilessly like a devil left and right. Someone who claimed to have surpassed Tsunade never even dared to fight Orochimaru’s student and crying for his attention after just receiving one stab from Madara. Just saying)

3. Uzumaki Naruto

Naruto is the titular character and your emotions evolve along with him. He surely deserves a spot in Top 3. The only reason I didn’t place Naruto even more higher is because he didn’t experience something very important which many characters in this list faced. That is, Losing a loved one before his eyes. Every villain in this series became what they are because they lost someone important before their eyes like Nagato, Obito. (Nope, I don’t count Neji as his loved one). I think this tests the mettle of any character and Naruto failed to experience this. The only person he ever lost was Jiraiya and that too from off-screen. That’s why I felt his journey to his dreams seemed little easier compared to the rest of the characters.

His best block of episodes will always be the part 1 Episode 1, 2, 3. Episode 1 is the character defining episode for Naruto and what he learned there will be applied everywhere till the very end of the series. He learned 3 things

Forgiveness, Empathy and Acceptance

Talk-No-Jutsu

Kage Bunshin no Jutsu

From then on, this boy wins many friends to his side, not only from Konoha but from other villages too and even made them to acknowledge his strength only through his sheer hard work.

However, there is this person, whose acknowledgement he wants the most. That person is his most important bond along with Iruka Sensei. He is none other than Sasuke. One day, Sasuke left him alone for some unavoidable reason at the end of part 1 which left a huge scar in him and he vows to bring him back to the place where he belongs. That becomes his ultimate goal rather than becoming an Hokage.

The way he goes to any extent to protect the people he cares about is just simply entertaining to watch.

Every time he makes an heroic entry to save the day was never boring, not once.

Best Moments:

Sobbing from his heart after hearing Iruka Sensei acknowledging him (It just makes me feel heavy for no reason. The anime team did an awesome job to capture his emotions convincingly)

Awakening Kyuubi Mode for the first time after seeing Sasuke die in his arms (Man, out of all the collective hatred he got from the villagers, this moment affected him a lot speaks volumes)

Punching Neji from the underground to win the Chunin exams (God, I honestly believed Naruto lost but he just surprised us heavily from nowhere. And that failure speech was just pure bliss to watch even today)

Pain Vs Naruto (One of the best arc for Naruto. Because unlike other arcs, where Naruto fought with a team, this arc he was all alone fighting a person with Rinnegan. Be it the exuberant landing from the frogs with a dramatic kabuki music, creating multi-step attacks, coming up with novel solution in that difficult situation, finally ending the conflict without killing the enemy, becoming an hero. Superb journey. The only thing I didn’t like in that arc is some shitty selfish proposal. PUKE!!)

Bearing the burdens of his most important person and die along with him (This boy always shouts he will never die until he becomes an Hokage. But for Sasuke, he was ready to die along with him in order to not leave him alone proves how much he loves him. This shows his emotional maturity rather than shouting at Sasuke like he always did before which never reached his ears. This time it did)

Final Good Bye to Minato (Honestly, I was bawling just like Naruto in that scene no matter how many times I watch it. It started out slow but as he speaks more and more, he simply couldn’t hold back and wept a sea of tears 😭😭😭)

2. Uchiha Sasuke

One of the well written characters in this series, with all the flaws and positive stuffs which makes him more of an Anti-Hero. He always subverts my preformed opinions and never ceased to surprise me.

Despite being aloof and cold, his warmer side will always be exposed towards Naruto. This is evident by many things he had done for Naruto which he don’t have to or no reason to. Starting right from roasting Sakura, offering lunch, asking for tips, enquiring about breakfast, protecting him many times and dying for Naruto.

Why I placed him above Naruto is because of his unavoidable decision to tread in a complicated dark path primarily due to the trauma he carried and was stirred up again by collective factors such as Orochimaru’s cursed seal, Itachi’s arrival and Naruto’s growth. Compared to Sasuke, Naruto had an easier path because he never saw anyone die before his eyes and hence he don’t carry any trauma which can divert his path.

Even after watching his entire clan and family members murdered before his eyes at an age 8, he managed to pull himself and never snapped out like many other good characters does. But the moment when he found out that Itachi was good all along, he simply couldn’t tolerate the truth and gave himself to Vengeance. Because, he loved his brother more than he hated him all these years. This shows he loved his brother more than his parents. His resolve to destroy Konoha was perfectly understandable. But is it good? Nope. He can kill Danzo and those old hags but killing other people was never justifiable.

But still, his resolve to have his vengeance was diverted by Naruto and weakened by Itachi, at some point. So, he decided to know the truth and when he heard it, he understood the Hokages also sacrificed many precious things to protect this village just like his Brother Itachi. He understood the mistakes of his clan and decided to protect the village which he swore to destroy. [Many Sasuke fanatics think that he succumbed to the Government and Kishi wrote Sasuke to bootlick them. Their idea was to tackle genocide with another genocide. What a stupid idea!!!!]

And No, I don’t consider him trying to kill Sakura, Karin and Kakashi as his bad moments (though I feel bad for Karin). For the simple reason being, he became a monster by losing himself in the darkness who lost the rationality to differentiate friends from foes. Much similar to how Naruto lost himself to Kyuubi’s hatred against Orochimaru and in Pain Arc. It’s so hypocritical to ignore Naruto and accuse Sasuke here. Plus, Sakura had no business to be there otherwise Sasuke would not have tried to kill her.

But does it mean Sasuke did nothing wrong???

Nope.

He definitely shouldn’t have joined Akatsuki and hunted Killer Bee like an animal. Because, he knew that Tobi was the one who helped Itachi massacre the clan. When fighting Itachi he specifically vowed to kill Madara (Tobi). On top of that, Itachi passed on Amaterasu in his eyes specifically to stay away from Tobi. Why did he ally with him? Plus, Sasuke was one of the few characters who was exposed to the name ‘Akatsuki’ in part 1 itself. He clearly knew that this organization targets Naruto, his closest bond. Why did he join there? This is where the stupid part of Sasuke came out. I was grunting... ‘Oii Where did that clever Sasuke, who faced 1000 soldiers without killing any of them, went??’.

And his plan for Revolution???? I thought it would be reasonable. But his vision was eerily similar to Danzo’s vision. Grrr..... Danzo also wanted to create his ideal village by destroying the current Hokage. He wanted to unite the Five Village and put himself on top of everyone as evident from the Kage Summit arc.

I appreciate him that he finally adopted the Will of Fire, by wanting to protect the village at all costs just like Itachi and Hashirama did. But his methods are not very democratic. Plus, he wanted to do it alone. I was screaming at him... ‘Grrr, Sasuke, did you listen to Itachi at all???. He failed because he did everything alone. Why can’t you understand????’ This is also another instance, Sasuke’s stupidity glanced out.

I am happy Naruto knocked some sense into him by telling him not to do it alone but together.

Many fanatics also ask, ‘What did Sasuke do wrong to atone for his sins at the end?’.

I was like ‘Reallly????’

He joined Akatsuki, an organization which terrorized all the 5 villages and he hunted someone like an international criminal.

He spoiled the Kage Summit and attacked Raikage who lost his arm because of him. I know what happened over there is not Sasuke’s fault. But these are the kages who was loved by many people in their own villages. How can the world forget it and simply let him go?

It’s exactly because of all those lovely stuffs he did in Part 1 and all these mistakes he did in Part 2 but willing to correct his mistakes by sharing the burdens of his other half in the end made him more interesting, complicated and exciting and that’s why I love this character.

I also have a personal bias to love this character sooo much because of the character on top of my list.

Best Moments:

Defending Naruto before Sakura (Awww!!! Such a good boy he was. Eventhough I thought he was a typical arrogant K-Drama hero, he just subverted my opinion in that one scene. I always have a thing for people who stands up for someone even though they don’t have to. This is where I started to like Sasuke)

My body moved on its own. (Is there anything that trumps this scene in terms of emotions and love in this series?. This moment is where I understood the depth of Sasuke’s emotions towards Naruto).

What is a Clan? What is a Village? What is a Shinobi? (I was really hoping for Sasuke to question himself something similar to this. Because he was so self-absorbed in his hatred and failed to look outside him ever since he left the village. It was so gratifying that he did that)

Killing Orochimaru (I always thought Sasuke will kill him only after he tries to take over the body. Never imagined that he will strike the snake first)

Killing Danzo (Man, what an amazing battle!!!. It was so gratifying to see such a crass bastard die many times over and over).

His dramatic confession through his monologue (After the mystery of Who is this Tobi, Sasuke’s obsession towards Naruto remained a mystery for me. Why did he listen to Naruto under the bridge? Why did he protected Naruto in the War? I got the answer only after this confession. It was so heartwarming to see this mellow side of Sasuke)

1. Uchiha Itachi

I could write pages about him. The foremost reason I like Itachi and earns the top spot in my rankings is because he shockingly resembled me in many ways. As I already said, I come from a place where clan politics plays a major role and when I see Sasuke’s flashback in part 1, I was simply dumbstruck by such a detailed similarities.

Elder child of the family - ✅

Have an adorable younger sister who loves me more than my parents - ✅

Same age gap (5 years) with my sister as Itachi and Sasuke - ✅

Parents paying total attention on me while ignoring my sister completely - ✅

Parents constantly comparing my achievements with my sister - ✅

A sister who bear hugged me every time I entered the home after returning from my school - ✅

Despite my mom being a teacher, my sister always prefers me to teach her stuffs as she considers me to be way too better than my mom - ✅

Love my sister more than my parents - ✅

Clan-Obsessed parents - ✅

Used me as a tool for the benefit of the clan - ✅

Sending another person from my clan to spy on me - ✅

Strained relationship with my parents - ✅

Disgusted with my clan - ✅

Most importantly, this dialogue from part 1 episode 129,

Clan? Clan?

Obsessed with the organization, Obsessed with the clan, Obsessed with the name, that’s merely the detestable action that restrict yourself.

I have given up all hope in this worthless clan

Because, people obsess themselves to their clan, a thing so petty, they lose sight of the things that are truly important.

A real change cannot occur under restraints and controls

I confronted my parents with the exact same dialogue (almost 98% similar) in my own native language some years ago.

I didn’t even know the existence of Naruto series at that time. I was simply shell-shocked by all these similarities with this character.

And Yes, The moment I heard these dialogues, I knew Itachi, was a good guy, who had a very strong reason for his actions and I instantly knew Sasuke’s revenge will not bear him any happiness.

It is exactly because of all these striking similarities of myself with Itachi, and my lil’l sister with Sasuke, my family dynamics with the Uchiha family.... I could understand the magnitude of Sasuke’s love towards Itachi.

And precisely because of that, I could understand Sasuke’s love towards Naruto is not fucking ‘brotherly’ one but something that leans towards Attraction.

No wonder, Itachi left Sasuke in Naruto’s care.

Anyways to speak objectively,

Itachi is an extremely self-sacrificial person whose life is full of pain and miseries but never blames it on the world unlike other Uchiha members like Madara, Obito and Sasuke to an extent.

He did things considering the bigger picture which never benefitted himself in anyway and was willing to go to any extent even at the expense of his own family and his brother’s happiness. That is, Uchiha Clan Massacre and Joining Akatsuki. None of this benefitted him in anyways but he did it anyway, for the village of Konoha.

His ideals are shockingly similar to Hashirama, Which Sasuke pointed this out and Hashirama acknowledged that Itachi was a better shinobi than he was. ❤️❤️❤️

Now, does this means I support Uchiha clan massacre?

No way. Even Itachi didn’t.

This massacre happened because of the huge clusterfuck from Hiruzen’s incompetence, Danzo’s paranoid arrogance, Uchiha clan’s devious plan to over throw the government by force rather than approaching it in a peaceful way, say, a peace talk or a protest.

All these people acted on their own self-interest. Itachi and Shisui caught in their whirlpool, bear their burdens and paid for it with their life. Sasuke suffered for it.

But, it’s not the only reason I love this character. It’s because, the moment he decided to massacre everyone, he marked his own death by the hands of his beloved brother. I love people who owns up their mistakes and face the consequences rather than making excuses (even though it’s not entirely his mistake).

Itachi is also the only character in this series who realized his failures on his own without anyone’s interference or Naruto’s Talk-No-Jutsu.

And he apologized for everything he did to Sasuke.

Again, some hardcore Sasuke fanatics criticize/hate him for torturing their poor ‘Sasuke-Kun’ with his Tsukuyomi. I was like ‘Hmmm...What?’.

First off, Itachi apologized to Sasuke for not thinking out from his point of view and also for not telling him the truth earlier.

Second off, Sasuke never even blamed Itachi for anything (even he didn’t hold him for killing their parents). If Sasuke himself, forgiven Itachi... Why are his fans being so rabid?

Third off, for all of his supposed ‘crimes’, he paid for it by dying as a disgraceful Madman rather than a Hero who really saved the village. He is someone who should be celebrated like Naruto but instead died proudly as a Traitor of Konoha.

All in all, One of the wonderfully written character I have ever seen in the media.

Best Moments:

Itachi vs Sasuke (That battle was a pure brilliance and highly emotional especially after knowing the truth. When Sasuke released his Kirin, Itachi showed off his ultimate armour Susanoo like a badass. Seeing Susanoo for the first time gave me chills. No, Sasuke didn’t kill him. Itachi died on his own)

Itachi vs Orochimaru (Man, Itachi may look mellow but when it comes to Orochimaru he is a pure Sass. He screwed that snake up both the times by a wide margin. It seems Uchiha brothers like to fuck up Orochimaru, LOL)

Talk-No-Jutsu’ing Naruto (Geez, Naruto was being completely bratty and was full of saviour complex like he was going to bear everyone’s hatred by himself. I was almost annoyed. Thanks to Itachi, he realised. Probably he is the only character to shut Naruto using his own jutsu)

Izanami’ing Kabuto (Other than Naruto, he is the only character to go out of his way to empathize with a villain and put extreme effort to change him. I think this is why Sasuke loves Naruto, for seeing these similarities??? ).

Goodbye to Sasuke (The first time when he said ‘Forgive me, Sasuke. This is the last’ by poking his forehead and finally closing the distance by butting with Sasuke’s head softly saying ‘I will love you always’.... It always evokes uncontrollable tears in me, no matter how many times I watch it 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭)

HONOURABLE MENTION

Uchiha Obito

God, Am such a sucker for Uchiha guys individually, though collectively as a clan they fucked up big time. I simply couldn’t find the place for him in the top 10. He is a classic example of What Naruto will be like if he becomes a villain?

However, all those horrible stuffs he did just for a girl whom he had a crush on which was never reciprocated seems childish. That’s why I couldn’t put him in Top 10.

And his understandable but weird obsession on Naruto was always enjoyable to watch.

One cute thing I liked about him was, whatever criminal stuffs he may have done, he was never a cheapskate though. He had every chance to take back Kakashi’s Sharingan to activate his own Susanoo. But he never even thought of such an idea. He was a bad guy. But a good friend, no matter what.

Pure Baby!!! But lost his way!!!

Best Moments:

Importance of Team Work (’In the ninja world, Those who break the rules are scum. But those who abandon their comrades are worse than scum’. This very legacy he left to Kakashi came to defeat him later. And Naruto follows this motto even today)

Sacrificing his Sharingan (’I am giving you my Sharingan. No matter what the villagers say, you are a great Jonin. Please take it’. Awww!!! Obito. He left his Sharingan which helped Kakashi to complete a jutsu called ‘Chidori’, which is a go-to jutsu of Sasuke)

A meta and analysis on Takaishi Takeru

Of all of the Tokyo Chosen Children, Takeru is lucky enough to get significant attention for two full series from beginning to end, and his character also goes through some drastic changes in the process, especially through Adventure and 02. There’s so much going on with him that it makes it hard to give a short answer to the question “what is Takeru like?” because there’s so much you could say about him at so many different times.

Fortunately, that’s what we’re here to talk about today!

Takeru in Adventure

At first glance, Takeru seems to be the “tagalong kid” -- the obligatory “little kid character” you have whenever you have a party in a fantasy story. Generally, these “obligatory kid characters” are the kind constantly struggling to catch up with the older ones. Adventure being a series that loves to play with tropes and expectations, though, very quickly says no to that.

Seki: ...We also mixed up the children’s ages, for a bit of variety. Kakudou: The oldest one would be the most unreliable, and the smartest one would be one of the third youngest. Just a little to throw you off the usual, conventional track. Seki: The youngest one would feel too much like a burden to everyone else, and conversely would actually have himself together.

Takeru “doesn’t want to be a burden” -- meaning his feelings on this issue are actually rather much like Hikari’s. Unlike Hikari, though, Takeru reacts to this compulsion differently -- instead of simply repressing things and pretending the problem doesn’t exist, Takeru’s reaction to his own negative feelings is to “have himself together” and act as if he’s got everything under control.

Or, more accurately, pretend he has it together and has everything under control.

Takeru, for all intents and purposes, was not supposed to be on the camping trip the others were on, not having gone to everyone’s school -- he had to get special permission to go. Takeru’s family is very, very split harshly at this time, with his mother not even able to treat Yamato comfortably. Yamato deals with the familial estrangement badly -- alternating between approaching everyone awkwardly and exploding like an emotional fuse bomb -- but Takeru tries to take it as a sign that he needs to be “responsible”. A lot of his actions in Adventure are him basically exuding this aura of “I can take care of myself!”, and in fact he works very hard to “assert” himself as if he were yet another peer. We even see him make the complaint directly in Adventure episode 43 -- while he is correct in calling out Yamato for coddling him and him only while recklessly disregarding the others, the fact he specifically complains about Yamato approaching him as someone holding them back if he’s not protected reveals a lot about his own mentality regarding the situation.

One of his first major scenes in episode 2 is him offering his own food for the pile of supplies everyone has, even though it’s just snacks. Which is, probably, a pretty accurate summary of Takeru’s character at this point: on the surface he’s responsible, well-behaved, and capable...but, in fact, he’s still about as immature as an average eight-year-old child would predictably be.

Yamato spends his Adventure character arc pretty openly angsting about his relationship to Takeru and how his family’s split has affected them, but throughout the entirety of Adventure (and, eventually, 02 as well), not only does Takeru rarely if ever touch on it, there are indications that Takeru deliberately tries to dodge the subject or not dwell on it too much. In Adventure episode 12, he actually outright lies to Patamon about his younger childhood memories, claiming he “probably doesn’t remember” anything about it despite the audience very clearly being shown that he very much did, and in episode 26 he comes very close to leaking his actual feelings about the group being separated being tied to what happened to his family, before quickly covering it up and trying to move on with the topic.

In other words, unlike Hikari, who knows exactly what she’s feeling but is compulsively unable to vocalize them, Takeru actively suppresses his negative feelings and tries not to dwell on them too much. Again, this comes from his desire to “not be a burden” on others -- he’s got this situation under control! Everything is fine!

And this has a very, very nasty payoff. While Yamato clearly deals with his emotional issues badly, tending to get very explosive about it, Takeru’s way of coping isn’t actually all that much better in the long run, because Yamato’s frustration and openness about his emotions at least lead him to being very straightforward about his feelings, incredibly self-aware and sometimes even self-conscious, and ultimately able to get at least some degree of catharsis from the situation. Takeru...not so much.

Takeru is a child, no matter how much he tries not to act like one, and it ultimately results in him reacting disastrously whenever something hits him too emotionally hard -- which results in Takeru suddenly becoming irrationally stubborn and even angry. We later see what it takes to actually break through Takeru’s facade of “totally having this together” in Adventure episode 22, which is also the first time he openly breaks down wailing in front of anyone besides Patamon -- and it’s, of course, when PicoDevimon convinces him that Yamato hates him. The interesting part is that this is so blatantly a lie that even Tokomon is able to quickly call bullshit on it, but Takeru, previously having worked so hard to maintain this facade of being responsible, falls for it completely with utter irrationality -- and it really does suggest that Takeru’s fear of losing yet another member of his family, and being a burden to Yamato, runs so deep that it causes that entire facade to shatter in one blow.

Which is where the problem lies: Takeru’s habit of suppression is so bad that once one of his triggers is hit, he completely loses all sense of rationality and blows up, and it becomes nearly impossible to reason with him because he locks down on becoming stubborn. It’s also dangerous because even he isn’t particularly self-aware of what he’s doing when he blows up like this; at least Hikari was very consciously aware of her suppression problem, but Takeru never really seems to have any awareness of the fact that his covering up of his feelings is directly related to some of his worst moments. We see it cause problems between him and Patamon again in Adventure episode 33, when Patamon asks a rather innocuous question about the brothers, and it hits Takeru’s trigger so badly that he snaps at him, resulting in the fight that kicks off the plot of the episode.

Adventure episode 52 is basically a major test for Takeru as to whether he really can hold himself together in a situation where everyone else older than him is gone, and “having himself together” is something he has to actually do instead of just have the surface facade of. He does, ultimately, pass, and this is why the Crest of Hope glows this episode -- but it’s also made clear that it wasn’t quite as easy for him as he would normally pretend it is. Of course, it also helps that Piemon is genuinely the scariest threat they’d faced during that time, but it also reveals that, yeah, ultimately, Takeru is an eight-year-old child who still has to struggle to put on a brave face so that Hikari doesn’t get impacted by his own fear.

For all it’s worth, although we get a ton of depth into his background and mentality, Takeru does not actually change that much as a character over the course of Adventure. This incident is probably what changes him the most in terms of him gaining a more solid core, and he also learns to accept the inevitability of fighting after his stubborn refusal to engage in it all the way back in Adventure episode 12 -- but for the most part he still does remain a bit naive about the world at large, and, more importantly, his issue with trying to cover up his problems with a confident smile never really gets addressed. At most, he’s willing to admit his grief over being separated from Patamon in Adventure episode 54, but even that is something Takeru tries to bounce back from quickly, much like with the first time he cried with Patamon in Adventure episode 12. But there’s nothing to indicate that his problem with emotional management isn’t going to continue being a problem from here on out if left unchecked.

That problem ends up taking another three more years to get addressed.

Takeru in 02

Takeru is one of the first people we meet in 02 (for reasons that end up revealed in the final episode), and right off the bat we learn that he’s a bit...evasive. He leaves a cryptic line to Daisuke about his goggles without coming even close to what we all know is the full extent of what’s on his mind (that the goggles specifically remind him of someone important to him), and later just...deflects Daisuke throwing accusations at him with a mild dismissal. In fact, even though Takeru pretty clearly understands very quickly what’s going on with Daisuke and how touchy he gets with the Hikari issue, he keeps dodging the question and constantly saying things that are evasive about it and therefore never truly helps his case until episode 17, when the circumstances between why Hikari and Takeru knew each other are finally properly clarified to Daisuke and he stops getting on their case about it on his own.

There were multiple points in time before this -- especially in episode 7, when Daisuke is practically at his worst in regards to approaching Takeru -- when Takeru could have easily said something to at least attempt to get Daisuke to stop bothering him, but Takeru never even asks him to cut it out! He simply continues to handle everything with a “yeah, okay, sure! :)” attitude, which of course confuses Daisuke (who’s rather allergic to people not being straightforward) rather thoroughly, and you wonder if he’s practically enjoying seeing Daisuke’s antics to the point he’s just enabling it further.

As a point of aside trivia, the official 02 website adds the fun detail that apparently he's popular with the girls at school but doesn't show much interest in them himself, and the Animedia audio commentary CD for Armor Evolution to the Unknown had his voice actor even express the opinion that he saw Takeru as someone who wasn’t really the type to think about romance at this age (adding in a separate interview for the 02 DVDs that he felt Takeru was respectful of girls primarily due to having been taught by his single mother to be such). The latter part of course isn’t something that comes from the writing, but given the website trivia I’m inclined to personally agree with it -- and, more importantly, the implication is that Takeru is at least aware of these kinds of things, but actively chooses to not think about it and deal with it when the time comes.

So in other words: That part about how Takeru actively suppresses things that are negative or inconvenient to think about, all for the sake of keeping a smile plastered on his face? Yup, still there.

In fact, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment from 02 episode 17 implies heavily that, even with their parents having developed a more cordial relationship after the events of Adventure, Takeru is now emotionally dealing with the aftermath of his parents’ divorce worse than Yamato is, since Yamato is at least able to speak about it casually and even joke about it openly, whereas Takeru keeps his mouth shut and the framing of the shot heavily implies he’s still extremely sensitive and unable to vocalize his feelings on it. Takeru never brings this up as something eating away at him for the entire series -- but BelialVamdemon uses it against him in episode 49, revealing that, yes, this is a problem that’s still tearing away at him, and yet he’s refusing to be open to anyone about it, even to Yamato himself. (Especially since, again, Yamato seems to be doing a great job trying to move forward; why kill his mood and thus be a “burden” to him?)

Even so, Takeru is very different in 02 partially because his circumstances are completely different. Adventure had him as the youngest in a group of older kids, so in terms of “being a responsible child”, that naturally meant being deferential and polite to everyone due to standards of propriety. 02 is where we learn a lot more about how Takeru interacts with peers his own age and people who are outright younger than him, when he has a bit more leeway to be more assertive.

On top of that, back in Adventure, Takeru was a young child who had a very small “range of periphery” -- as a young child still rather naive about the world, his emotional investment in things primarily pertained to loved ones and the people around him. But now that he’s a bit older, he’s gained a certain degree of strong feelings about “what’s the right thing to do”, and now has very strong opinions on it.

These things ultimately manifest in, unfortunately, Takeru losing his composure much more often than he did in Adventure, and for reasons that pertain to much wider things than just his brother. Still not having recovered from the trauma of losing Patamon back in Adventure episode 13, Takeru starts physically fighting Daisuke in 02 episode 11 because he perceives Daisuke as not doing enough to prevent Patamon from potentially becoming a slave to the Kaiser, and in 02 episode 13 he lashes out at Hikari in frustration about her refusal to do anything about her situation (which he of course ends up deeply regretting later in the episode).

Takeru’s infamous scene of suddenly switching modes on the Kaiser and punching him out in 02 episode 19 is basically the pinnacle of this -- because, yes, the Kaiser really did deserve it, but this really is not a good thing for Takeru either. This is Takeru getting the closest we ever see him to being a genuine sadist, and it’s basically everything to do with his emotional stuntedness coming out at once -- blowing up in anger out of nowhere with a passive-aggressive demeanor, succumbing to the weight of his trauma in the worst way possible, and mixing the ^^ front he puts on with his tendency to blow up angrily at anything that cuts him a little too emotionally close.

And for the first time, we see someone actually acknowledge how bad this is. Iori, one of the most consciously perceptive of the group, witnesses, for himself, the sheer jarringness of Takeru seeming to only really have two modes between “all smiles” and “unreasonably angry”. Sure, Takeru had shown a penchant for getting active as soon as there was something he needed to protect, but the moment it got personal, Takeru suddenly blew up in front of his eyes and almost turned into a completely different person. (Perhaps he’s not that different from Yamato after all...)

This is a very important moment because it sets up the base for what ultimately becomes the Jogress arc between Iori and Takeru. Daisuke ended up reaching out to Ken because Ken was someone who needed someone to accept him and teach him to move forward instead of drowning in the past; Miyako ended up reaching out to Hikari because Hikari knew herself to have a suppression problem but had difficulty doing anything about it, so the extremely in-your-face and aggressive Miyako could go in deep. But with Takeru, since his personality is genuinely volatile, and because Takeru goes out of his way to hide the fact he’s having emotional problems, personalities like Daisuke and Miyako wouldn’t help much because they’re too straightforward for someone like this who’s a bit unpredictable -- whereas Iori, who’s assertive but also methodical and thinks through everything consciously, is eventually much better able to reach out to him.

Once the relevant arc kicks in, in 02 episode 34, Iori continues to observe Takeru, and quietly notes the many “contradictions” in Takeru’s behavior -- since, after all, Takeru starts to sometimes violate what you’d think would be common sense whenever he gets too emotionally compromised. The fact that ostensibly one of the outwardly “nicest” kids in this group suddenly blows up in certain circumstances and basically goes “absolutely nope, needs to be killed!” in the midst of a few moral debates over killing sentient Digimon disturbs him deeply, and really, it’s not even about the killing part (after all, it’s later established in 02 episode 43 and after that Takeru and Hikari have a certain degree of acceptance of the inevitability that the others don’t) as much as Takeru’s being pretty gung-ho about it. Not “I don’t like it, but we have to” like he said earlier, but NOPE, GOTTA DO IT.

Iori refers directly to the duality of Takeru that he doesn’t quite understand multiple times in this episode (including in regards to the incident back in 02 episode 19), and it continues to torment him until the end, when Takeru only gives a very cryptic “clarification” that he doesn’t necessarily hate the darkness per se.

Iori, too intimidated to ask Takeru about it directly, goes to ask Yamato in 02 episode 35, and Yamato finally clarifies the background that we as the audience knew but Iori didn't: the story behind Takeru's trauma regarding the loss of Angemon back in Adventure episode 13. Yamato also makes a conjecture about why Takeru has been acting so ambivalent towards Ken -- you'd think he'd still be under Takeru's scorn after the events of 02 episode 19, but in fact Takeru's judgment of him in episode 25 was simply that he was certain something had changed, yet he couldn't tell what he was thinking (really rich coming from someone who refuses to tell anyone else what he's thinking himself!). Yamato guesses that Takeru is inclined to be a bit more forgiving of Ken due to understanding the feeling of losing a partner -- and the ultimate conclusion here is, basically, that Takeru's behavior is contradictory because he's acting based on what's personal to him, not necessarily via principles that make sense. After all, back in Adventure, it was clearly demonstrated that Takeru isn’t exactly rational when things hit too close to home.

The other important thing that happens this episode is that Takeru learns that Iori is actively trying to reach out to him, when Yamato drops him a line informing him that Iori asked. Despite complaining that Iori could have just asked him directly, after Takeru witnesses the face-off between Iori and BlackWarGreymon and a demonstration that Iori is clearly trying his best to make sense out of this entire mess, Takeru actively reaches out to Iori and says something to comfort him -- “a life is beautiful simply by existing.” It’s still cryptic as hell, but it’s not something he would have said in the midst of his anger in prior episodes.

It would be one thing if it were simply that by itself, but the following episodes further push the idea that Takeru really is starting to change after witnessing all of this. 02 episode 36 has him explicitly acknowledge what Iori’s been doing this whole time in trying to understand him for the sake of their Jogress, and, finally, during their meal later that episode, he says, very openly and honestly, that he thinks they’ll be able to do it now. After two instances of Jogress, these kids are very aware of what that entails -- so this is basically Takeru consciously acknowledging to Iori “yes, I understand that you’re trying to reach out to me, and I accept it and want to understand you.” Because Takeru is such a convoluted sort of person, this “understanding” ended up being something that didn’t span a single magical moment as much as it took several episodes and a diplomatic, conscious affirmation on both ends -- but it’s a fitting way to go for someone who had always indicated some pretty poor conscious awareness of where his feelings were taking him.

This is especially because, in 02 episode 37, his statements to comfort Ken are in pretty significant opposition to the sort of anger he’d displayed in earlier episodes, and are now a more pragmatic view of the issue in light of Iori’s efforts and everything he’d just witnessed with BlackWarGreymon -- and to drive the point home, the episode has, at the very end of it, Takeru making his first true explicit show of goodwill towards Ken after having been a bit touchy with him for so many episodes.

Iori himself, being the youngest of the 02 group, still has a lot to learn, and so Takeru, who had previously been one of the youngest in the Adventure group himself, now has his role inverted to effectively be a guiding mentor to Iori as he finds his own way. Basically, Takeru becomes responsible for the welfare of this young child, and so his way of treating Iori is markedly different from the more detached and playful way he would treat others from here on out. This is especially because, earlier, Yamato had informed him that Iori had taken a very roundabout way to help understand him better, and so Takeru probably understands that he scared the hell out of Iori earlier and needs to do better. While the Takeru of 02 episodes 38-50 still has a way of being playful, and while he still isn’t completely straightforward about his intentions, he is definitely much better about being open with the others, especially Iori, instead of doubling down on his “everything-is-fine” mode.

And perhaps this is what the other meaning of “hope” thus became in this situation -- learning to be forward-facing even in the midst of truly knowing and understanding everything that’s wrong with the situation.

Post-02

Although Takeru’s Spring 2003 track is addressed to no one in particular, meaning that it’s the most likely reason he’s so willing to be open about it, Takeru outright admits he’s having problems with his emotions -- especially those pertaining to Angemon’s death. We do, however, learn that Takeru’s started writing the early, early drafts of what’ll eventually end up becoming the novels he writes as a future career.

This being only a year after the events of 02, Takeru’s position is interesting. His decision to start writing is that he wants to have a record of everything before it’s forgotten -- because these things are very personal to him -- but he’s not emotionally ready for the huge task of finalizing everything in words, to the point he still hasn’t told his mother he’s started writing yet. After all, this is a book we eventually find out takes upwards of twenty years, and so this is the presumable reason why -- being able to get this down in a rational way that’s not emotionally compromising is going to be an upwards battle for him.

Even come Kizuna, there’s still a long way for him to go, because an actual line (in a very fast-paced movie) is dedicated to establishing that he’s still uncomfortable with his novel progress to the point he won’t even let Yamato see it. His official character profile and background details are revealing, too -- although he’s currently taking language classes in university and is even part of a children’s literature club, he still hasn’t actually decided on what to do with his future, meaning that he hasn’t determined that he’s going to be a full-time novelist with these yet. That means that even though he’s clearly still clacking away at his novel (multiple indications in the movie are given as such), his memoirs are still at the level of being so deeply personal, and not something he feels comfortable telling well, just yet.

I’ve pointed out before that despite not appearing directly with them in the movie, Takeru and Hikari have more in common with the others in the 02 group than they do with their Adventure seniors, and this is fully codified in the drama CD when Takeru is content to basically just “do whatever” with the rest of his friends instead of having any particular concerns about his future. And as someone who has a tendency to kind of just let his emotions take him wherever they’re going, this isn’t too surprising. Although he approximates as the closest to level-headed during most of the group’s antics during the CD, he’s still completely guilty of enabling them full-force, after all...

So, with the 02 epilogue, we get the massive meta reveal that the entire series was Takeru’s novels the whole time. This was planned to be the ending for Adventure before recording for the first episode had even started, but was postponed to the end of 02 when the second series was greenlit -- and if you’d followed the Japanese version, there are a ton of meta hints scattered around from day one:

The narrator of the series is Hirata Hiroaki, who played Takeru and Yamato’s father, and is revealed in this episode to voice him as an adult as well;

Episode 12 of Adventure is named “Adventure! Patamon and Me” and is the only episode title in Adventure or 02 to use a first-person pronoun -- and it’s of course a Takeru-centric episode, with the episode title using Takeru’s boku;

02′s first episode kicks off narrated by young Takeru opening the story, with Takeru himself suspiciously omitted from the opening vignettes;

02 episode 18 suddenly has the narration cut in when discussing Takeru’s trauma from Adventure episode 13, with the younger Takeru even filling in part of it himself;

02 episode 49′s “next episode” preview for 50 suddenly also starts using “we”, which also includes Takeru’s boku;

Finally, Takeru starts narrating right after Oikawa’s death, which fades into what’s revealed to be his adult voice.

In the context of Adventure, Takeru was “the youngest child”, so the idea makes sense that “the littlest one” would be the one to grow up and reflect on all of the adventures they had as kids -- and once 02 was added, it practically made sense that Takeru would be the one to recap both adventures, being the one person who was there to completely witness both (it also explains why Takeru and Hikari’s character arcs remain somewhat unresolved by the end of Adventure compared to others, since by this time it was apparent their story would be continued in the second series). So on a meta level, Takeru is, in a certain way, one of the most important characters in both groups.

On a level relevant to his personal character arc, on the other hand, the point here is that Takeru finally managed to put together his book and story in a way that he was comfortable telling the entire world about, to the point of choosing to make his entire career into it. That’s something that requires a lot of coming to terms with what happened, how he feels about it, how others feel about it, and everything about the whole ordeal in general, without compromise or (too much) bias.

And in the end, that’s really a lot!

-In less than a week, you had Mammon waiting at your beck and call (without even having to use your pact with him)

-Levi quickly got attached to you when he realised you were interested in his hobbies (even after the whole quiz attack incident) and he required your presence pretty often

-You started bringing Beel snacks whenever you guys went somewhere and now he refuses to leave your side

-Asmo fucking adored you from the beginning and appreciated how sweet you were to him despite his flirty nature, generally happy you would go shopping with him and all that

-Satan and Belphie took a while to warm up to you, but Satan would now come talk to you as often as possible and recommend you books, help you study etc..

-As for Belphie, he tried distancing himself after the whole ‘choking you to death’ incident a while back. But he couldn’t resist how nice you were to him and how you would sing him to sleep whenever he had his nightmares

-You’ve made your way into his brothers’ hearts, somehow.

-And, though he wouldn’t like to admit it, maybe in his too

-You’ve been very affectionate toward all the brothers, giving them head pats and words of encouragement

-You were the one always telling Lucifer to go to bed already because he was working himself too much

-A fragile human scolding an over 1000 year old demon was quite amusing to him but he was also very touched

-His already big ass family just obtained another member and he wasn’t exactly complaining, since his fondness for you just increased with each passing day

-He knew his brothers were fond of you too, the way they would follow you around like lost puppies, waiting for their favourite human to spend time with them

-His twin just as attached to you as his older brothers

-Why? How are you doing this?

-He’s so irritated by it, the way a mortal just comes along and magically gets along with everyone

-How are you doing that?

-Deep down, he knows you’re just that kind of person

-Someone who just deeply cares about their friends and loved ones

-After a few months, he starts craving your head pats too, the way you laugh at his snarky remarks, the way you insisted you,him and Beel all hung out together at once

-He started coming to you at night, whenever his nightmares began to prevent him from sleeping peacefully and you never got mad at him.

-He thinks about it, as he lays in your arms trying to fall asleep again and appreciating your warmth

-He thinks about how he wished you really were part of his family and how badly he’d want you to live with them for the rest of eternity

-He thinks about how sorry he is for everything and about how happy his family has become since you came along

-He thinks about how you must be Lilith’s decedent and how much he misses her

-He thinks about how glad he is that you care for his chaotic family

A Much More Dramatic Romerica Reveal

With the addition of the Marcello blackmailing Romerica into getting him a Vespa plot (and FrUK’s subsequent belief that Savino is exploiting their naive, infatuated son for sex and expensive things he wants), the Romerica reveal scene becomes a lot more dramatic. Here’s how I see it going down and what eventually happens.

On New Year’s Eve, Romerica hang out with their brothers in the living room while FrUKSpa are out at some fancy NYE party with a rich friend on a yacht or something they’d planned to attend months ago. It’s very exclusive and the kids weren’t invited, so they had to leave them alone at home even though FrUK think Romerica are in a sexual relationship and Antonio is a little less skeptical about that being a possibility if Savino ever returned Alfred’s feelings. Marcello is happy with his blackmail present and going out on rides with Savino and maybe a little guilty they actually went out and got it for him because he wasn’t expecting that to work as well as it did. (Savino was protesting more, but Alfred was pretty much on board right away and just trying to explain how he had to wait for bank transactions to go through to make it happen.) They don’t kiss at midnight to appease Marcello, who obviously has a problem with them, but they may be able to act a little more cuddly than they do in front of their parents. After they watch the ball drop and celebrate a little afterwards, everyone goes upstairs to bed. Matthew had pre-arranged with Alfred to have a “sleepover” with Savino’s brothers so Alfred and Savino could get an empty bedroom for a night. They have penetrative sex for the first time and somehow find a way to control Alfred’s volume so their brothers won’t hear them going at it, and it’s all very sweet and romantic. They fall asleep in each other’s arms, and it’s sappy and adorable.

The next morning, FrUKSpa get back from their big party night, and the kids are starting to wake up. Romerica sleep in because they’re tired from the night before, and they might have to shower this morning because they were too focused on having sex to do that last night, so they’re taking much longer to get up than everyone else (even if they aren’t getting distracted in the shower). But FrUKSpa are all in a relatively good mood from last night’s party, so nobody’s busting down the doors to come get them, even if FrUK are suspicious about them “sleeping in” so late. Marcello doesn’t mention a sleepover to them since Savino and Alfred have kept their blackmail promises even if it does annoy him to know they had sex last night and that’s why Matthew was in their room.

Romerica come downstairs just in time for New Year’s brunch, and it’s obvious something happened between them last night because they’re staying very close to each other, both have somewhat wet hair (so clearly showered together), and are giggly and shy like they were after the first time they did something sexual together. FrUK are internally seething about this, and Antonio is thinking it’s something like Savino telling Alfred he loved him too or maybe a midnight kiss because he’s not so focused on the idea of them having sex as FrUK have been for weeks, may not notice the wet hair, and believed Alfred’s story about having one-sided feelings for his son. He’s surprised but thinks it’s cute, is glad Alfred isn’t miserable anymore, and thinks maybe FrUKSpa should talk about this with Romerica after brunch (not to confront them, but just to understand what’s going on and talk about the situation).

Romerica are in such a stupid, happy mood that they get careless. Savino says something like, “Could you pass the sugar, amore?” and Alfred giggles and says something cheesy in response like, “Sure thing. Here’s some sugar for my sugar!” and everyone stops eating instantly and silverware hits the plates because now the cat’s out of the bag and everyone knows (or at least thinks they know) exactly what’s going on.

Arthur loses his goddamn mind and goes “I fucking knew it!” and starts accusing Savino of wild shit. He’s so angry it’s hard for Romerica to process what he’s saying, and maybe he focuses in on the fact he thinks they’ve been fucking for a really long time (maybe back when Alfred bought the textbooks) instead of the thing he actually has a problem with, which is the belief that Savino is exploiting his naive, infatuated son. Francis joins in, and he’s almost as bad as Arthur, because this time it’s not just about them having sex (which is something he might not be happy about, but would discuss with them in a more private setting with just FrUKSpa). To him, this is about his kid getting manipulated, so both he and Arthur are going full papa wolf on Savino. Savino is sobbing because FrUK are screaming their heads off at him, and Alfred is sobbing too because of his boyfriend and because he is processing FrUK’s reaction as disgust that they have done NSFT things with each other.

As soon as he sees Savino crying, Antonio starts fighting with FrUK. He loves them both very much, but the way they’re treating Savino so cruelly is making him think he needs to break up with them. To Antonio, the nephews he thinks of as his sons have always come first ever since his sister died. He was extremely clear with FrUK about this when they started to get serious, and he thought they would understand since they have kids too (and they said as much at the time). Now, Arthur has made Savino break down twice in one week’s time on major holidays. Antonio mostly forgave him for the first incident since Arthur didn’t know he went to see his nonna’s and parents’ graves on Christmas Eve and was very apologetic afterwards, but now this morning is bringing his anger about that back to the surface. And Francis, who had been trying to make Arthur calm down back then, is joining in on making Savino cry like this. Not to mention Alfred! He’s also confused and angry about why they’re freaking out about Romerica doing sexual things, because to him this is clearly not just a sex thing even if they are doing that with each other. Savino has dated people before and brought them home around Antonio, but this is the first time he’s ever heard his son calling anyone amore. He’s probably not thinking of this consciously, but he might know that Alfred was there outside the graveyard when Savino was speaking to his dead relatives and that Alfred comforted him afterwards and brought him home, because maybe Savino told him he didn’t have to do that this year because Alfred would. Up until now that’s only a thing he’s let a close relative, usually Antonio, do. (Back then, he was seeing it as a friendship thing, but now he isn’t if he’s thinking about this. And he would clearly see it as a love thing if he knew Savino brought Alfred in to introduce them and let Alfred talk to them too, because before Savino always talked to them alone.) If he hears an accusation of Savino manipulating Alfred to get him presents and using him for sex, he’s pissed because he knows his son would never do that and his partners should know that too since they’ve known Savino for a while now and might have bonded with him over things (cooking for Francis and gardening for Arthur).

Marcello gets ticked off and blames the FrUKSpa fight on Romerica (because he did get worried about a minor tiff I’ve already written, so clearly he hates the idea of FrUKSpa fighting). For his whole life, Marcello has had a single dad (who he thinks of more as his dad than his brothers would since he can’t remember his parents) who had a hard time getting into a relationship. In his opinion, Romerica have wrecked the happiness his Papà found after so long with their stupid relationship. He spitefully accuses Savino of ruining Antonio’s life, not knowing this is a sore spot with his brother, and Alfred is *this close* to decking a nine-year-old. He’s also *this close* to decking his own parents because they’re making his boyfriend feel like absolute shit. He’s sobbing badly, but he might be yelling too while all this is going on in an attempt to defend his boyfriend. FrUKSpa are too busy yelling at each other to listen to him.

Savino runs away from the table and goes upstairs because he cannot deal with this shit anymore. He starts packing a duffle bag full of clothes, his wallet, and whatever he can think of because he legitimately thinks he has to run away at this point. Alfred thinks they both do, so he also starts packing. They come up with a more “reasonable” plan than when Alfred tried to run away last time and call up one of their friends who knows about them and is okay with them being together (not Tolys, because his stepbrother was dumb about them before, and that’s the last thing they need to deal with). The friend promises to at least let them stay while the storm passes.

During this entire confrontation, Feli and Matthew have been trying to get their parents to calm the fuck down and listen to reason (mostly FrUK, because they agree with everything Antonio is saying but his yelling isn’t helping right now). When Matthew notices Alfred and Savino are no longer in the room, he roars at his parents that they’re making Alfred run away again, and this time Savino is going with him. Matthew knows that everyone, especially his parents, were worried when Alfred ran away a month ago. Is that what they fucking want?! Francis or Arthur (I’m thinking Arthur, because he’s generally been the biggest asshole about Romerica in this) says he “doesn’t give a shit” about what happens to Savino, and Feliciano bitch slaps the fuck out of him. He starts screaming at FrUK about exactly how long he’s known his brother was in love with Alfred (at least since they moved into the house in August, and knowing how guarded Savino can be, Feli knows the feelings went back a lot longer than he’s been able to notice them). Feliciano says that Savino told him about introducing Alfred to his dead parents and nonna and explains just how remarkable this is. He has never let anyone join him while he does his yearly ritual of talking to his dead parents, not even his own brother who lost them at five years old and would best understand how Savino feels about their tragic deaths. FrUKSpa are flabbergasted, because they all know how sensitive Savino is about his parents’ deaths (Antonio the entire time he’s looked after Savino, and FrUK when he became their stepson, especially after the Christmas Eve incident). They’re shocked into silence, and this allows them to finally notice Marcello weeping quietly into the table about the Vespa and how he was the one who made Savino and Alfred get it. He is pissed off at his big brother and honestly hates Alfred because he’d hurt his feelings with the Christmas card incident so bad, but he loves Savino deep down under his brattiness and is scared at the idea of him running away with Alfred and never coming home again.

Antonio puts his parent hat on, and he leads Marcello upstairs. He’s gentle with him because he’s a scared nine-year-old, but he makes it clear he’s very disappointed about what he did to Alfred and Savino and that he will face a consequence commensurate with what he did. He makes Feli watch him while he and a very chastened FrUK try to go find Romerica (who have probably left the house at this point and are God knows where) so they can bring the couple home and actually talk about the relationship in a calm and honest way.

Eventually they do agree to come home with FrUKSpa and talk because they can see that FrUKSpa are being honest about their intentions (there is some doubt, but Romerica is willing to try when they say they won’t accuse them of bullshit or try to make them breakup). In the talk, they start to go over the misunderstandings that led them to this point. Honestly, at this point everyone in the house needs group therapy, and FrUKSpa promise to look around for a family therapist who won’t try to make Romerica break up, because based on what they’ve heard today, that is clearly never happening. Once Marcello is calm enough, he sheepishly apologizes to Romerica about the blackmail, and they’re annoyed he did that but say they forgive him because they can tell he’s actually sincere.

I don’t think everything that happened in this fight can be resolved in one day, so I would show some individual snippets of therapy, like Alfred and Marcello talking about why Marcello had such an issue with Alfred being with his brother that he decided to blackmail them. I’d show how everyone is adjusting to Romerica openly being together, including how some people (like Arthur, who does have some misgivings about the stepbrother aspect, or Marcello, who had such resentment about them before this huge reveal/fight) take longer but eventually come around to the idea.

Why does Sissy look so scared?

Sissy's reactions to Carl have been suspicious from the start. She's given a lot of red flags (the anxiety, the body language, the hoarding money in secret, the reluctance to speak up, the desperation to keep Vanya near her at all times, etc) and I've wondered if he's been abusive but he seems more pathetic than purposely malicious, he even showed vulnerability and admited to loving her and fearing that she doesn't feel the same, so I was starting to think Sissy's fear and paranoia had more to do with a fear of Carl leaving her (and thus taking away the only income and leaving her and Harlan with nothing).

However, I'm rethinking things and I'm starting to suspect abuse again (at least psychological, if not physical)... I think the only reason we don't see it yet is because Vanya is there and Carl won't act out on front of a witness.

I could totally be wrong though, I could be seeing signs that aren't there because of my own issues. We'll see.

Is... Is Handler actually a good mother?

Nevermind, she's gaslighting.

But she cares enough to give first aid and admit she lied so... Definitely a better parent than Reginald at least. I actually want her to be a decent parent, I'm tired of the narrative where villains all have to be abusive parents, villains can love too and that makes the story so much more complex and dramatic when people finally have to choose sides.

My Long Essay on Bonz (+his relationship with Bandit Keith and treatment by the author)

This is going to seem really random, but I’ve been thinking a lot about Bonz and Bandit Keith lately. More specifically, I’ve been thinking about how fucked up their relationship is.

Bonz doesn’t have any canon metrics relating to age or height, but information from both the Japanese and American voice actors state that he is somewhere in between the age of 13 and 15 and is about 3′0 tall (or 91 cm) in height. The source I found also states that he “looks 40″ and I don’t know which voice actor said that and I want to call bullcrap, but I suppose it is information nonetheless. We also know from Duel Links that people are terrified of him based solely on his ghastly appearance, as seen when he tries to return Bella’s lost card and she runs away from him because she mistakes him for a genuine ghost. If I recall correctly, Joey made a similar mistake at the beginning of their graveyard duel. Additionally, when Bonz appears in the Duel World for the first time he is very nervous at the sight of all the duelists. This social anxiousness makes a lot of sense considering nobody is willing to give the poor boy a chance, even mistaking him for something unhuman, on what appears to be a regular basis. Even though he has incorporated his ghoulish physique into his interests and personality, it doesn’t seem to be something he can control as he gets very upset when Bella and Joey gang up on him in Duel Links based solely on how spooky he looks and infer thusly that he must be up to no good. This event even makes Bonz consider leaving the Duel World for good to save everyone (including himself) the grief of dealing with his appearance. What I’m trying to say is that Bonz has every reason in the world to be shy and have low self confidence.

This is when Bandit Keith comes into the picture. Bonz, alongside Sid and Zygor, are accepted into Duelist Kingdom based on their dueling prowess, but nonetheless it seems their confidence is lacking as they are quick to accept Bandit Keith’s offer to take the younger duelists under his wing. Keith is a highly seeded duelist, so of course the three jump on the opportunity to learn a thing or two from him. Now let’s walk in Bonz’s shoes for a moment. Nobody has ever even given this kid the time of day, and suddenly a respected older man sees something in him and offers to help him finally do something spectacular. This could be the big break he’s been looking for: he could finally accomplish something despite his appearance and show the whole world his own worth. It isn’t surprising that Bonz agrees to this arrangement. Additionally, Bonz refers to Bandit Keith as “aniki” or “older brother” in the Japanese version. Keep in mind that this is the same title that Syrus uses to refer to Jaden in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. Bonz puts Keith up on a pedestal and expects him to take care of him.

As you all know, that doesn’t happen. Bandit Keith only intends to use his understudies as pawns and rob them of their star chips, and even before he does that he takes every opportunity to yell at and boss around the younger trio. The way Keith treats these three is obviously horrible, but the fact that they are at the same time to scared of his wrath and naively hopeful of getting their reward makes it all the more so. Through the entirety of Joey and Bonz’s graveyard duel, Keith makes sure Bonz knows he can’t make a single decent move on his own and that the only way for the boy to win is by taking his orders without question. He forces him to comply and doesn’t even take responsibility when the very moves he ordered fail, instead blaming Bonz for screwing up despite him following instructions to a tee. He beats down this poor child and makes him feel worthless so he can get his way, and when his plans ultimately fails and Bonz is defeated he wastes no time making sure he can still squeeze some usefulness out of him. Along with Sid and Zygor, Keith beats up and takes the Star Chips of the people he promised to help before entering the tournament finals himself. He leaves them alone in the forest with no help, throwing the chips in the air tauntingly while laughing at their ignorance. Bandit Keith took advantage of a weird-looking young boy with low self-esteem and used a message of hopefulness and his older and more experienced status to manipulate the kid for his own personal gain.

After Duelist Kingdom, the dejected trio strike it out on their own. Unlike Bandit Keith, Sid and Zygor are older people who seem to actually have respect for Bonz’s above-average dueling ability. The three use some sneaky tactic to snatch themselves some locator cards, which is of course not honorable, but I can’t say I fault them to much. After all, Bonz at least is just a kid and their last experience with someone being successful involved fear-tactics and trickery, so I’d say if anything this is Bandit Keith’s lingering bad influence. Whatever the case, they certainly don’t deserve the treatment they get from Bakura when he comes slinking around their base of operations. Bakura challenges Bonz to a winner takes all duel, which Bonz accepts. In a terrifying shadow game, Bonz and his companions get their mortal souls sent to literal Hell (or the Shadow Realm depending on who you ask) after they lose to the Spirit of the Ring, and that’s the last we ever see of them in the show.

Up until the release of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, I’m pretty sure a fair number of the fanbase had presumed the trio dead, which I believe was the impression you were supposed to get before the change of plans nearly twenty years later. With this in mind, think of how fucked up this narrative would have been. The story of a child who gets lied to by a person in a position of authority before losing everything and then disappearing without a trace, doomed to wander the eternal depths of the underworld for basically no reason... just thinking about it is seriously bumming me out and is honestly burning my biscuits a bit. Sometimes I think Kazuki Takahashi just really hated kids, considering how many children are either treated as irredeemable pieces of shit despite being perfect young candidates for a life lesson and redemption arc like Weevil or are killed of and/or tortured for a few childlike mistakes like Bonz or Imori. When you look at a lot of Yugi’s classmates who are only seen in the manga, we see a list of frankly disgusting people who try to assault women and bully the weak and set people on fire. The list of horrible things that Yugi’s classmates have done goes on and on, and their mere existence proves to me that Kazuki Takahashi showed a severe lack of understanding or empathy for children. I’m not at all saying that those characters I just mentioned were worthy of redemption, I’m merely stating that the fact he would include characters like that who are so young in age is telling to the author’s character in my opinion. In relation to Bonz’s character, I feel like Takahashi’s treatment of the character was frankly disgraceful. Takahashi has a tendency to make character’s slimy looking and use that as an excuse to think bad things about them, so I doubt any nuance was spent on his characterization aside from being a whipped bitch for Keith to walk all over and a sneaky gremlin for Bakura to murder. It makes my blood boil a bit to be honest.

Thank Ra for Duel Links, which allows Bonz the opportunity to get revenge on Bandit Keith as well as providing us with some more personality for the boy. He might still be scared of Yami Bakura (and rightfully so), but he’s learning to stand up for himself and preparing to show the world all he’s got! This ending makes me a lot happier then the frankly depressing one we received in canon, and it’s inclusion makes me equal parts warm and fuzzy inside and incredibly relieved. I’m glad Takahashi’s badly treated character was given an opportunity to be explored when put in the hands of the right people.

I don’t really know what I’m trying to say by bringing all this up, but it’s been taking a toll on my mind for days now and I just really had to get it all off my chest. Bonz is such an underrated character, which really sucks because he has an such interesting dilemma and has so much room to grow as a character if he was featured in more fan-works. Duel Links shows us that he’s very well-intentioned, as shown when he tries to return Bella’s card and even throws in one of his favorite monsters for seemingly no reason other then being nice, while at the same time being really shy and doubtful of himself. Despite that, he is trying to build his confidence by toppling some old enemies, and I feel like that message is both universal and inspiring. Let’s show this boy a little bit more love!

In conclusion, Bonz is a good boy and Bandit Keith and Kazuki Takahashi are dicks.

Higurashi When They Cry Part 3: Ch 3 Tatarigoroshi-hen

I guess this one will focus on Satoko and her past relationship with her brother Satoshi that is missing. I’ve always been curious about that so I’m hyped. But Satoko really is kind and sweet despite her expected trap making skills lmao. Lucky she saved Keiichi from burning his house down omg, I was so scared for him lol. Btw, Chie-sensei the curry maniac is so pretty and cuteee omgg!! She doesn’t look scary but danggg lol!

As someone with two brothers, seeing how much Satoko misses her brother and sees her brother in Keiichi really makes me teary. My brothers are really important to me as well so the thought of them disappearing would probably make me feel really lonely as well. Even if Keiichi is like a replacement brother, he’s a good and sweet one. 💯 approved!

Their club games are literally the best, that baseball game was so funny and cool, especially the way Satoko called him out making him misunderstand that they were in a physical fight and needed help lmaoo. So hilarious that Kameda’s weakness was that he has a secret guilty pleasure in eating desserts because he’s into sullying pretty things with his sportsman exterior HAHAHA. What kind of fetish is this?!😂😂 Coach Irie is such a good guy though, only if you take his random inappropriate jokes as jokes though haha. I thought it was really kind of him to want to give the best to Satoko and even have the intention to adopt her but be unable to since he’s not married.

Think I read somewhere that Shion was Satoshi’s girlfriend so I wasn’t very surprised but I guess this is another reason for her dislike of Hinamizawa and not living there or going there often? Rena and her obsession with Oyashiro-sama’s curse is as scary as ever. With a bit more context this time, it seems like Satoshi may have thought about escaping Hinamizawa and that’s what angered Oyashiro-sama and Rena seems to have experienced this firsthand… She said she begged for forgiveness and that’s why she was saved or spared or something… I wonder what happened to Rena… Did she try to run away once upon a time? Satoshi doesn’t seem like the type to abandon Satoko so he’s probably dead I guess… But whaat, is Satoko’s dad actually still alive and he even had a lover?? As the leaders of the faction that was all for the dam project, he was actually spared? Doesn’t seem like Mion and them to allow him to live though…

Why does Ooishi seem so evil or malicious or something in this one…? He literally grabbed Keiichi and hurt him.. but Ooishi being Oyashiro-sama’s servant and that he decides that the sacrifices for the curse every year? That’s a new theory.. Oh my mistake, the one with a lover is the uncle?? And he’s back… And preventing Satoko from going to school… Keiichi is such an asshole and so mean to Mion. He’s not the only one that cares about Satoko but he pushes the responsibility of saving her on to her as if it’s her fault that Satoko is in pain. He’s so naive and ridiculous to think that he can just say all this to Mion and make her cry when he’s not even doing anything to help Satoko either! I’m glad Rena shouted at him, he totally deserved it😡😡

I guess you can understand why Satoko blames herself for Satoshi’s disappearance. He’s always been a good brother protecting her after all, and she was the one who reported the child abuse and in turn made her aunt and uncle abuse them even more due to the report. There was nothing wrong with her relying on her older brother but I guess since she’s older now, she also knows that it must have been painful for him to take everything on himself. So her hope that if she becomes more mature and deals with this problem herself, her brother will come back is logical.. tbh Keiichi this time around is very infuriating because he keeps on thinking that just because people aren’t reacting as badly as him towards Satoko’s situation that they don’t care as much or aren’t as desperate. It’s like who does he think he is, what puts him on that high horse, seriously. Everyone cares and worries in their own different ways and he’s constantly judging and thinking of them as lesser than him in terms of this mentality and it just makes me want to hit him, because they’re trying to think of ways to make the situation more positive for Satoko but he just rains on their parade because they’re being “happy”.

Seriously, how would Satoko feel if they always looked at her with sad eyes of pity and concern all the time, she’d feel so inadequate, embarrassed and even more sad! Gahhhh! He’s so emotional and not helping the problem at all! If it helped I’d be all for it but it really doesn’t and just makes it harder for everyone that’s trying to help the situation so it really makes me angry! If I was Mion, I would have snapped at him already because the way he treats her just makes me so protective of her especially since she always apologises to him when it’s not even her fault! So what if she’s got housekeepers dude, Satoko’s guardian is her uncle because he’s a blood relative and so it’s not a money problem at all. He really needs to keep his emotions in check omg. It was so cruel of Keiichi to tell Mion to choose Satoko’s uncle to be the sacrifice for Oyashiro-sama’s curse just because he heard that she’s the head of the Sonozaki family. I’m aware of how desperate he is towards trying to save Satoko but, he was literally accusing her of being a murderer, a serial killer and the mastermind of everything with no evidence or anything, just ignorance I guess. He really didn’t consider Mion’s feelings at all and that angers me. He’s always hurting her when she’s so kind. He doesn’t think about anyone else’s feelings!

But wow, I never thought that Satoko’s actually had many “dads” since her mother remarried once and had many de facto partners, and that Satoko played malicious pranks on them to the point that they couldn’t stand Satoko. I guess she wanted attention from her mother and she thought the existence of this father was stopping that so she never really accepted any of them and kept up this behaviour… She’s an emotionally hurt child but I can’t help but sympathise with some of them to an extent since Satoko’s pranks can go quite far tbh… It seems that there was the theory that Satoko purposely hurt herself so she could chase her stepfather out with the child welfare people… And she really did lie about it so this theory was actually true… Which is why the second time they were called, they were wary of it and wanted to wait and see how the situation goes..

To see Satoko break down so badly and hurt Keiichi so badly (physically and emotionally) was daunting. Kinda glad Rena shouted at him when he kept talking when it was obvious that he was scaring Satoko with his existence as a guy probably. But I guess what I feared seems to have begun to happen. Keiichi is losing it and thinking of how to kill Satoko’s uncle. I wonder if Oyashiro-sama’s curse is actually some supernatural being taking in the vulnerable emotions of those who are really mad etc and exacerbating that and thus leading to the death of those they hate? And then they get eaten by the supernatural being themselves and that’s why they disappear?

So, in a sense, the reason Keiichi’s family moved was because of him. He was a special kid that was “smart” in that he was quick to pick up things and go beyond the expectations of his teachers, but that kinda made him get a big head I guess and he slowly lost his normal social life with others. And as others do, the parents decided to move somewhere to help change the environment and hopefully he can start anew happily somewhere else. But I honestly didn’t think Keiichi would really go through with the murder of Satoko’s uncle. I really enjoyed the entire deliberation he had over the whole thing though and his previous annoying actions made it easier to believe that he was capable of doing this. It felt very real because of how detailed his thought process was and how understandable his thoughts were, which is also what made it so uncomfortable as well. Because really, it showed how easy it could be to kill another person as long as you plan it, have the intention and go through with it. This time, Keiichi didn’t go to the festival so I’m curious about what happens in this game. I’ve read manga and books where the closest person to the victim ends up killing the perpetrator, and it always makes me feel so sad to see it happen, because they’re all ordinary people who wanted to protect the victim so much…so much that to an extent, they went insane from the trauma. It’s just so devastating…

The possiblity of Takano killing Tomitake…never occurred to me. I guess it was because they always seemed like they were dating so I never thought she’d ever kill him, I mean.. What could be the reason? And who kills Takano every time if she is the one who supposedly killed Tomitake? Unless Keiichi actually has another personality or something and so even though he was exhausted, he ended up killing Takano as well~ although I could imagine Mion or someone killing Takano to protect Keiichi. But what? Keiichi was at the festival, just like he was in the other games? Does that mean the worlds are connected?? One disappears and one dies… Did Takano disappear or die? If one Keiichi disappeared and we’re left with this one that killed Satoko’s uncle.. Is he actually a demon and not Keiichi? As expected, the uncle is actually not dead though. Does that mean, somehow Keiichi has gone into a different timeline after killing the uncle? Different world?

I feel sorry for Keiichi that Irie thinks he’s crazy after he told him how he shouldn’t have been at the festival but everyone else said he was, and that he killed the uncle. But you really can’t blame Irie, considering Keiichi’s past actions with how emotional he was over Satoko and everything, tbh I’m not even sure that just because I’m reading this from his perspective that he really did kill the uncle or whether his hatred was just so magnified to such an extent with his helplessness towards Satoko that he thought he killed the uncle when he really didn’t. The missing baseball bat etc could have been moved by him when he’s in a dazed state or whatever as well, just like in the first game when he killed Mion and Rena after he turned crazy. Keiichi has always been the scariest when pushed to the limits after all… Maybe Satoshi really did the same thing as Keiichi, maybe he did beat the aunt to death to protect Satoko, maybe Satoshi and him are as similar as they keep saying in this game and the previous ones.. Maybe he’s just Satoshi with brown hair hahahaha.

Is it true that whoever Keiichi wishes for to die, they’ll die? Irie didn’t believe his story and was cursed, so he died? Ooishi kept hitting him with mud when Keiichi tried to dig up that hole where the body should have been and was cursed by Keiichi, so he died? I’m glad Satoko’s okay though, she was literally bathing in boiling hot water for one whole night, I’m surprised she’s still alive and conscious tbh. But, I can’t believe Rika is dead and killed in the way the Hinamizawa torture would go, with her stomach cut open and her bowels and organs taken out. Poor Rika, how cruel… So, Satoko snuck in that ritual storehouse when she was a kid and broke one of those cages making it hit into an image of Oyashiro-sama as she ran away and Rika got blamed for it.. so Satoko thinks that everything crazy that has happened, her parents dying, her brother disappearing, her aunt beaten to death, Rika dying, Keiichi killing her uncle, everything is all because of Oyashiro-sama’s curse of killing the people closest to you first and then you last. Is the curse real, or is the curse as real as they believe it to be, I wonder? Satoko really can’t help but think that Keiichi has been possessed huh?

But to think that his wish that this cursed version of Hinamizawa would disappear would actually make everyone besides him disappear from this world through toxic volcanic gas… I guess this was an ending where Keiichi survived huh? Not that living is any better though. He lived long enough to torment him until his eventual death. Yeah, that’s not nice at all.

Btw, the all cast review session is always so great, I’d recommend watching them for every game, this one was especially great and funny hahaha! I mean it’s so true that Tomitake is like a newscaster, his death is always the announcement that Higurashi will be going into the second half which is darker hahaha! They always so calmly analyse how they died etc and stuff like that, it’s so interesting! Kinda interested that Shion will be the main character for Meakashi, I really like her just like many others do XD

Overall, I enjoyed this game as much as the others but I do admit that Keiichi frustrated me at times and it was a bit draggy about the depressing things, sigh but it was really good. I guess it just made me sad to read it every time, rather than scared lol. Gotta say the killing part was a highlight and a very interesting turn to the series. Can’t wait to play the next one~~

he was friggin terrified to tell his parents he wanted to own his own bakery instead of going to uni? so he structured the whole entire confession as a huge deal -- making them dinner, baking a cake, buttering them up with the, “you know i love you, and i’ll always want you to be proud of me... but i have to come clean about something important” speech. so they def assumed he was coming out?? what they didn’t count on was for him to come out as a baker. and soon after he opened his own bakery in town, whipping up decadent treats & lovely conversation for the locals!

his bakery is called ‘ sweet nothings ’ and it’s honestly adorable?? chill, cozy vibes. even if the baker is constantly running around from the back to the register, icing streaked across his face. it’s fine! it’s quirky! people dig it!

Bored so have some headcanons about Ladelia who tends to get less attention from me and it’s a shame

Ladelia is terrified of spiders but the two spiders Diily has as pets (very, very large spiders) absolutely adore her and it scares the shit out of her, especially cuz one likes to crawl into her bed at night

She favors fire then arcane and Frost is her weakest spec

Her crush on Jaina is still alive and well and it will only get worse I’m sure when she sees her again

She snorts when she laughs really hard

She displayed magical talent from a very young age it was chaos until her father taught her how to control it

Allueneth (her father) had no interest in using his own magic...until Ladelia was born and he realized she would have to be able to control it and then she wanted to learn more and he sucked it up for her and taught her what he could

Ladelia was very shy and skittish as a child now she’s far more confident and outgoing I mean I would be too if I could incinerate people with a mere flick of my hand

She’s much more outwardly emotional than her sisters who both internalize their emotions

She’s a lesbian while her sisters are both bi

She’s never had a girlfriend or had her first kiss Yes that means she’s a virgin

Neither Diily or Alaluria are virgins

She gets a crush on ladies she meets very easily but her biggest crush so far is Jaina

I guess this family has a thing for silver haired mages with issues

Jaina has no clue and probably won’t ever find out

She’s more outwardly peppy and bubbly then her sisters and absolutely would be the one to burst into song on a long trip (im for some reason thinking of koda from brother bear “tell everybody I’m on my wayyy”)

Loves to prank and mess with both her sisters but especially Alaluria because she gets so pissed

Can talk a mile a minute and gets super excited

Loves Khadgar like a big bro

Also loves illidan like a big bro much to Diily’s dismay and Alaluria’s delight, Ladelia just figures Alaluria loves him so she should too even if he’s..unpleasant

Her mount Morningflower is Brighthearts cub just like Shadowclaw and Wildheart are. But from different litters (fitting for the three sisters to have well, three sabers that are sisters too)

Inexplicably does not like Kalec but no one knows why except her sisters

Goofball and it turns her sisters into goofballs too, even Alaluria

Happy exterior hides deep rooted trauma and inferiority complex

Doesn’t remember much of the day her parents died, Diily privately thinks it’s a reaction to trauma, she was so young and just couldn’t handle it,

Diily and Alaluria however remember everything. Diily being the oldest remembers everything the most vividly

Loves battle, and makes a show of it, she loves to impress

Her and Alaluria have their mother’s hair color (blue) while Diily has her father’s (purple)

She’s a bit naive, she’s the night elf equivalent to a human in their early 20’s, by night elf standards she’s actually quite young

Loves to eat and can eat..a lot. She’s also chubby even though her in game model can’t show that /grumble

Is actually a very good cook but just conjures food is in need of a quick snack.

Loves Pandaria, good food, peaceful folk, lots of alcohol, beautiful land..what’s not to love?

Probably the one with the strongest faith out of the three, Diily being second and Alaluria third

Was an absolute wreck when Khadgar killed Diily making the legendary ring, honestly Khadgar doesn’t know how close to being incinerated he was asldkfkff

Being granted the title Archmage is something she holds very close to her heart and feels extremely proud about

Was deeply troubled by withered, she never wants to end up so addicted to magic like that..or like other magic addicted elves

Very ambitious and has to be brought back down to earth I mean Azeroth sometimes

Beserk button is hurting Diily or Alaluria, I think it’s safe to assume hurting the others is the biggest beserk button for all three

She’s deeply empathetic, feels deeply and it shows, she wears her heart on her sleeve

Very good with kids and wants them in the future, she’d love to adopt. She visits the Stormwind orphanage when they go there sometimes and gives them treats and hangs out (she’s an orphan too after all)

She’d adopt a child of any race including horde races

Despite being quite needy with her sisters she’s actually not the jealous one, it’s Alaluria who doesn’t like sharing her sisters with anyone. Ladelia is more apt to just be like !!! Have fun!!! Love u!!!

if they’re on the road (they usually are) she’ll always sleep right beside Diily where she feels safest, however! She feels safest when Alaluria is on her other side too (putting her in the middle) and Brightheart, Wildheart, Shadowclaw and Morningflower are curled up with them

Absolutely saved their lives in their childhood a lot without knowing because she was able to start a fire with magic when Diily or Alaluria couldn’t get one going manually (for warmth, boiling water, cooking food, etc)

V Cuddly and physically affectionate.

Diily had to tackle her out of the way of harm once on the first attack on the Broken shore because she was too busy staring at Jaina in awe (reminds me of that one text post lmao “get up you useless lesbian!!”)

Can communicate with both her sisters without saying a word not through telepathy or anything like that..they just know each other that well, have their own signals, etc

Wants to be an aunt so badly and knows Alaluria is never gonna have kids so it’s lol on Diily! (She’d never actually pressure her she’s just playing if she says shit like that and Diily knows it. she still would love to be an aunt tho and she’d be an amazing one)

Joked about Illidan and Alaluria having kids and while Alaluria tried to beat her ass (playful sibling fighting not actually to hurt her) Diily just sat there looking like her soul was leaving her body because of the mere thought of Alaluria having illidan’s child

Apologized to illidan for killing him that one time and he was just like “..uh...okay”

Made Hrolf lose his shit laughing mid battle with gul’dan because she called out “Gul’daddy is coming your way, big guy”

The first thing Diily did then is glance at Khadgar very quickly and he looked like he was about to have a stroke (how dare u make him hear that)

She likes to joke around obviously. It keeps everyone’s spirits high. She can be serious if need be though.

Diily, Alaluria and Ladelia banter while in battle constantly. It’s just what they do. Sometimes you just gotta roast your sister real quick even while fighting...or just make some bad jokes. “wow Ladelia you’re on fire tonight” “shut the fuck up, Diily”

Both her and Diily have picked up cursing in common after so many years fighting by humans and other races (example 1 above) Alaluria is picking it up now too from them and is quite...ah creative with it

Inside jokes galore with the three of them and it’s probably annoying to everyone else around them lmao

Ladelia takes the most pride and enjoyment in making her armor sets awesome (transmogging and shit) it’s fashion bitch

Would be the 1st person to quote a meme

Is super jealous that Khadgar and Medivh can turn into a bird and she can’t

She does love her violet magic bird mount she got from the Kirin Tor after defeating Argus the Unmaker though :’)

Had an absolute blast in Karazhan..both times around!

Leaned over to Diily and whispered “they fucked” when Medivh and Khadgar were talking and Diily was just like “Well obviously”

If she wasn’t gay she’d probably be into Med honestly but she’s gay af so she just thinks he’s neat (*insert potato meme here but Medivh is the potato*) she likes his style.

Has trouble being quiet when she needs to be because she talks so much and gets excited and must comment.

Minami Natsume: He was saying very vulgar things as he left.

Ryo Tsukumo: Horrible, wasn't he. I bet he was some sort of insect in his past life. Comfort me, Minami.

Minami Natsume: How much will you pay me?

Ryo Tsukumo: So you won't give me any love for free...

Torao Mido: That's how it goes.

Ryo Tsukumo: Oh well. In any case, congrats on your huge success.

Ryo Tsukumo: You'll be very busy after this. You're going to be on magazine covers, posters all around town, TV, commercials, and doing lives.

Ryo Tsukumo: The whole country will be neck-deep in ŹOOĻ, just like tonight! You're going to make a hundred million people dance! What a sight that'll be!

Torao Mido: That's unexpected.

Ryo Tsukumo: What is?

Torao Mido: Seeing you happy.

Ryo Tsukumo: But of course I am!

Ryo Tsukumo: The center vocalists, Haruka and Toma. The performers who also do the chorus, Torao and Minami.

Ryo Tsukumo: You four are my greatest toys ever, better than any playset!

Toma Inumaru: Hmph, toys, huh. Well, not like I mind.

Toma Inumaru: You're just a stepping stone to us, too. All you need to do is torment TRIGGER like they tormented us.

Haruka Isumi: I'll destroy Tenn Kujo with my singing.

Torao Mido: Haha. As long as we have fun. Love never lasts, anyways.

Torao Mido: Don't you think so too, Minami?

Minami Natsume: Fufu, that's a secret.

Torao Mido: Well aren't you mysterious.

Haruka Isumi: Is it just you here, Toma? It's rare for Minami to be gone.

Toma Inumaru: He's making preparations for our song, so he said he'll come after he drops by the studio.

Haruka Isumi: Is that so...

Toma Inumaru: Nevermind him, do you know where Tora is?

Haruka Isumi: Of course I don't.

Toma Inumaru: Dammit, he's probably late again... He's never here on time.

Toma Inumaru: You just got here from school, right? Was it fun?

Haruka Isumi: Not really.

Toma Inumaru: What, are you being bullied or something?

Haruka Isumi: Huh? As if I'd ever get bullied.

Toma Inumaru: You don't even realize how cheeky you are, huh. If someone messes with you, let me know. I'll deal with them.

Haruka Isumi: Huh?

Toma Inumaru: Look, we've got donuts, too.

Haruka Isumi: ...Natto-flavored?

Toma Inumaru: Natto? No uh, what were these again? Says here that they're "strawberry-filled".

Haruka Isumi: They've got jam. I'll have some.

Toma Inumaru: You can have my share, too. They look really sweet.

Toma Inumaru: If only they had natto in them, then I could've had some too.

Haruka Isumi: Huh?

Toma Inumaru: You sure like sweets, Haru.

Haruka Isumi: Not really.

Haruka Isumi: Their fans are stupid for being fooled by it.

Toma Inumaru: ...

Toma Inumaru: Yeah. You're right. That's how TRIGGER fooled their audience, too.

Haruka Isumi: Hehe. Where's your picture? I wanna see.

Toma Inumaru: Mine's not done yet. I just had my shoot yesterday.

Haruka Isumi: Oh. When will it be done?

Toma Inumaru: It's rare for you to be this interested.

Haruka Isumi: I bet you're trying too hard to look cool, so I bet I'll laugh at it.

Warning! A lot of insanity, and almost no context unless you ask for it later! This is the beginning of the story I’ve been writing for a LONG while now with my partner. It’s a little bit of a recap, and I haven’t finished it yet.

Sarah confesses that she actually does like Malanite but back then Mal was emotionless and just a little angry at someone so instead the day is spent addressing how Mal wants to kill Lara and they save Lara and stuff and Pae confesses her love for Lara and they’re together forever and adorable!

But then Mal says she likes Sarah back and Sarah was the reason she managed to gain emotions and they love each other happily and everyones okay until SUDDENLYYYY drama happens???

And a new character, Pearly comes in. He’s a Love, and the most wholesome bean ever. He is the ultimate babey. But he tries to do his job and make everyone happy and in love but some of my sides don’t think they’ll ever be happy or loved so after meeting MY Love, Zee, they end up with more relationshipsss!

But then Pearlys BROTHER is introduced, Shadow. Shadow is depression, and my depression, named Abigail, become best friends. And they are the most chaotic, evil pair there is for a while.

Abigail concocts an EVILLLL plan to ruin Malanite and Sarah! He’ll go for Malanite, try to date her(obviously not really loving her tho) and gets Shadow to do the same with Sarah.

After about a week, Sarah’s fallen for Shadow for real, but we don’t know if Shadow feels the same. In fact, HE TRIES TO FUCKING STAB SARAH???? Luckily, Malanite was there to save her!

He says he REALLY loves Abigail, but Abby doesn’t say anything about love yet. Shadow is heartbroken and runs back to the jail he came from originally!

Sarah and Abigail RUN to him, trying to make him happy and have him come back! But when they get there, Malanite warns them about.. the darkest cell. It’s the one very farthest back and... VERY, very scary. Malakite, MALANITES BROTHER, comes out of it! He is Insanity. They all fight a huge, long battle, in which everyone grows closer. Sarah saves Shadow; and Abigail stays behind trying to help Malanite fight the EVIL MALAKITE!

Sadly, Malanite loses her eye in the battle to save everyone from Malakite. However, she’s so kind that she doesn’t even hurt Malakite too badly. She just puts him back in jail, and helps him become a better person.

Wait- i forgot- also, Gracina’s dating Onyx and also likes Destiny but Destiny is currently incapable of romantic love. And Onyx also sorta murdered Des’s crush a couple years back so-

So eventually Mal just- boom now there’s a child around and she wants to be its mom. I don’t know how the heck THAT happened, but boom! Child. Child is named Illusion. Child belongs to Malanite, Abigail, Shadow, and Sarah- also, Child IMMEDIATELY RUINS SARAHS AND MADELINES LIVES SO THATS A THING! SARAH LITERALLY CHANGES FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE BECAUSE AS SOON AS THE CHILD STARTS TALKING ITS A JERK TO SARAH?? (And yes i am calling it an it because i still don’t like it personally-)

Soon, Child runs away. It runs to the Suicides, a group of scary and dangerous bad people. This is where you meet Izuku, and Tyler. You’ll want to remember them... Izuku is my side, but he’s sorta trying to not be a Suicide anymore. He took a page out of Damians(you’ll meet him later) book, and changed to Neatness. He’s really chill. But at the time, he and Tyler were the most jerky jerks you’ll ever meet. Izuku and Sarah used to date btw- and anyway, he was super toxic and only liked her because she would let him hurt her if he promised not to hurt anyone else.

Anyways, they took Child back but were scared of Tyler after. Izuku stayed with them, and was sorta a jerk still until a couple weeks after when he started being chiller and kinder. He was still a jerk, but the funny, just kidding kind of jerk, you know? He was the friend who would make you the butt of the joke, but in a funny way.

Soon, Izuku and Pearly ended up together. It took a long process of explaining feelings and growing, but they’ve become one of the few truly happy couples.

But then... along comes DAMIAN. He is a MEGA asshole. He’s a LITERAL FUCKING DEMON. AND I’M USING LITERAL CORRECTLY, HE IS OF THE SPECIES “DEMON”. Anyway, he tried to kill Pearly so my naive, poor, innocent Morality decides that if she acts clueless he’ll become a better person. All he wants is for her to suffer... he does everything he can for a while to just ruin her, absolutely belittle her, destroy her pride, all while acting like an angel and treating her “well” when she’s listening closely. She was already miserable, his goal was to make her go INSANE.

But somehow..? She wins. She overhears him sleeptalking in a nightmare, saying to “let her go!” She’s confused to say the least, thinking he has a girlfriend. She’s totally not sad about that- anyway, she influences his dream, quietly saying “who..?” And he replies, still asleep “GYGE! THE GIRL YOURE HOLDING BY THE THROAT YOU IDIOT! I NEVER GOT TO TELL HER I LOVE HER..” So Gyge, VERY flustered, mumbles “l-love like a friend, right..?” And he screams “I LOVE HER ROMANTICALLY, DIDNT THINK YOU WERE THAT DUMB NOW LUCIFER!” so- that was a shock for her. She goes into his dream, and hugs him. He knows what’s happened when he wakes up, but still doesn’t think she likes him back.

She tells him she does, and they’re super cute together. But both of them are WAYYYYY too scared to actually say that they’re girlfriend and boyfriend so they’re totally just best friends that would rather hear “girlfriend” or “boyfriend” than “best friend” and actually get sad being called that.

Losers at Hawkins and the Death of Will Byers

A little long but that’s because I had to put two different stories in only one chapter. Hope you enjoy.

IN DERRY

The terror, which would not end for another twenty-eight years -if it ever did end- began, so far as I know or can tell, with a boat made from a sheet of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain. The boat was of a twelve year old boy and his big brother done it and gave him as a gift. Jonathan was not a much loved guy, and he certainly did not have many friends, but he loved his little brother, and he was not ashamed to spend time with him. That day he would come out with Will, really, if only he had not been sick. He could not go out and risk worsening the situation: he could not lose other days at school. Jonathan did not have good grades, but not because he was not smart. He was bored at school. He dreamed of studying photography, and going out with the beautiful and intelligent Nancy, one of his classmates. From time to time it happened that he went to dinner at her house, because his brother and the youngest of the Wheelers were good friends. He had never had the courage to talk to her. This was what Jonathan Byers thought while his little boat bobbed, listed, righted itself again, dived bravely through treacherous whirlpools, and continued on its way down Witcham Street toward the traffic light which marked the intersection of Witcham and Jackson, followed by his brother, wrapped in a yellow wax and with red rain boots on his feet. About three-quarters of the way down the block as one headed toward the intersection and the dead traffic light, Witcham Street was blocked to motor traffic by smudge pots and four orange sawhorses. Stencilled across each of the horses was DERRY DEPT. OF PUBLIC WORKS. Beyond them, the rain had spilled out of gutters clogged with branches and rocks and big sticky piles of autumn leaves. The water had first pried finger holds in the paving and then snatched whole greedy handfuls-all of this by the third day of the rains. By noon of the fourth day, big chunks of the street’s surface were boating through the intersection of Jackson and Witcham like miniature white-water rafts. By that time, many people in Derry had begun to make nervous jokes about arks. The Public Works Department had managed to keep Jackson Street open, but Witcham was impassable from the sawhorses all the way to the center of town. But, everyone agreed, the worst was over. The Kenduskeag Stream had crested just below its banks in the Barrens and bare inches below the concrete sides of the Canal which channeled it tightly as it passed through downtown. Right now a gang of men - captained however by a woman - were removing the sandbags they had thrown up the day before with such panicky haste. Yesterday overflow and expensive flood damage had seemed almost inevitable. God knew it had happened before -the flooding in 1931 had been a disaster which had cost millions of dollars and almost two dozen lives. That was a long time ago, but there were still enough people around who remembered it to scare the rest. One of the flood victims had been found twenty-five miles east, in Bucksport. The fish had eaten this unfortunate gentleman’s eyes, three of his fingers, his penis, and most of his left foot. Clutched in what remained of his hands had been a Ford steering wheel. Now, though, the river was receding, and when the new Bangor Hydro dam went in upstream, the river would cease to be a threat. Or so said Ted Wheeler, who worked for Bangor Hydroelectric. As for the rest-well, future floods could take care of themselves. The thing was to get through this one, to get the power back on, and then to forget it. In Derry such forgetting of tragedy and disaster was almost an art, as Jonathan Byers would come to discover in the course of time. Will paused just beyond the sawhorses at the edge of a deep ravine that had been cut through the tar surface of Witcham Street. This ravine ran on an almost exact diagonal. It ended on the far side of the street, roughly forty feet farther down the hill from where he now stood, on the right. He laughed aloud -the sound of solitary, childish glee, a bright runner in that gray afternoon- as a vagary of the flowing water took his paper boat into a scale-model rapid which had been formed by the break in the tar. The urgent water had cut a channel which ran along the diagonal, and so his boat travelled from one side of Witcham Street to the other, the current carrying it so fast that Will had to sprint to keep up with it. No twelve-year-old boy, raised in a normal family, behaved that way, but Derry knew that the Byers were not all normal, so none of the neighbors noticed the lonely kid chasing a paper boat, therefore, the water that sprayed out from beneath his galoshes in muddy sheets went unnoticed and so his strange death who arrived because of two disquieting yellow eyes locked inside the storm drain. Or at least, this was what Will thought. He saw them by accident, when his little boat ran straight into the storm drain, and he cursed in hopes that a dirty word would help him to take it back. When even the owner of those eyes, a clown resembling a cross between Ronald McDonald and Bozo, saw him, greeted him by calling his name. The clown was holding a bunch of balloons, all colors, like gorgeous ripe fruit, in one hand, and in the other he had Will’s paper boat.

“Want you boat, Will?” the clown asked, smiling. If only Will had been older, or if only his brother had not been sick and could have accompanied him, the boy would never have responded to that smile. Perhaps, but it is only a hypothesis, his boat would never have ended up in storm drain and Pennywise the clown would not have brought further suffering to that family. But Will was just a naive boy, and his brother was not there with him, so he smiled at the clown, as if he had met him at the annual fair in Derry and not in a storm drain.

“I sure do,” he said.

The clown laughed. “I sure do. That’s good! That’s very good! And how about a balloon? “

"Well… sure!” He reached forward… and then drew his hand reluctantly back. “I’m not supposed to take stuff from strangers. My brother said so.”

“Very wise of your brother. How old is he?” asked the clown, interested.

“Sixteen.” replied Will, but he was looking at the boat.

“Did you brother made this for you?” asked Pennywise, kindly. Will nodded.

“And why he’s not out there, playing with you?”insisted the clown.

“He’s sick. But he promised that we’ll go out to play together again when he will be better.” replied Will, proud. He loved his mother, but he loved his brother more, because when his dad left he also left so much love to give to a male figure, and Will decided to give it all to Jonathan. For the greater of the Byers it was the same, although it held a grudge for the father. He remembered well, that disturbed man and how he had managed to treat both his sons and his devoted wife badly.

"So I guess you want it even more!” the clown exclaimed. “But if you cannot take anything from strangers, we must first introduce ourselves.” Will liked how that clown solved problems simply.

“I, Will, am Mr. Bob Gray, also known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Pennywise, meet Will Byers. Will, meet Pennywise. And now we know each other. I’m not a stranger to you, and you’re not a stranger to me. Kee-rect? “

Will giggled. "I guess so.” He reached forward again… and drew his hand back again. “How did you get down there?”

“Storm just bleeeew me away,” Pennywise the Dancing Clown said. “It blew the whole circus away. Can you smell the circus, Will?"

Will loved the circus. He had only been there once, when he was a child, but he still remembered the scent of hot roasted peanuts and fries with white vinegar, even if his favorite thing was the cotton candy, but it did not have a perfume so intense as to overcome the others. His mother had even taken him a cotton candy bubble bath, and it was all blue and made him smell like candy.

In the storm drain, however, he only felt the scent of frying doughboys and the faint but thunderous odor of wild-animal shit. He could smell the cheery aroma of midway sawdust. And yet, under it all, the smell of flood and decomposing leaves and dark storm drain shadows. That smell was wet and rotten. The stink he had smelled a couple hours before, when he went down in his house’s cellar. But the other smells were stronger, so he said he could smell the circus scent.

"Want your boat, Will?” Pennywise asked. “I only repeat myself because you really do not seem that eager.” He held it up, smiling. He was wearing a baggy silk suit with great big orange buttons. A bright tie, electric-blue, flopped down his front, and on his hands were big white gloves, like the kind Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck always wore.

“Yes, sure” Will repeated, feeling a little guilty for letting the circus thought distract him from recovering his brother’s present.

“And a balloon? I’ve got red and green and yellow and blue…”

“Do they float?” asked Will, interrupting the clown.

“Float?” The clown’s grin widened. “Oh yes, indeed they do. They float! And there’s cotton candy…”

George reached. And Pennywise knew he had hit the right button, so he seized the boy’s arm. And that was the moment when Will Byers knew he had signed his own death sentence.

MEANWHILE, IN HAWKINS

To be autumn, it was a particularly serene night, in Hawkins, with the sky full of stars and not even the trace of a cloud. The four kids, well hidden in the Tozier cellar, could hardly imagine that something so awful was happening at such a beautiful evening at the Hawkins National Laboratory U.S. Department of Energy, not when the thing that most troubled them was the noise of sprinklers in the garden. Anyway, the guys heard those damn irrigators for the whole time, but Richie would not have told his parents it was time to change them. He was just a kid and they would never listen to him. They never did it.

“Something’s coming, something who’s th-thirsty of blood.” said Bill. They were playing Richie’s new fantasy war-game. It was about Middle Earth, Tolkien’s world, and Bill was advantaged, he had read The Lord of The Ring, so he already knew which characters were more powerful and which were not, so they decided to make him a moderator. Richie was a little sorry, but the friend seemed to be having fun. Despite his stuttering, he was a good reader, and when he was very involved in reading he could almost not stutter.

“A shadow grows on the wall behind you; it swallows you into the dark.” Bill went on, and Eddie leaned a little closer on the table, careful. After the moderator’s intervention, it would be his turn.

“It will be there soon.” he ended, and Richie started making supposition on what could that be with Eddie. Stan also entered the speech, and Bill waited until they came to a standstill.

“An O-orcs Army attacks th-th-the shelter!” Bill exclaimed, moving the toy army. The other boys laughed. It was something easy to defy.

“Just a moment.” spoke again Bill, making all the other guys shut. “That sound. B-boom, boom, and boom!” he nearly yelled, banging open palms on the table. He was a good actor. Richie had been the one who taught him, otherwise the other guys wanted to exclude him completely from the game. Richie would never have allowed it: Bill, despite his oddities, was his best friend, and he would always be close to him, ready to help him.

“That sound d-didn’t came from the Orcs, that sound ca-came from something else.” he said, leaving the three players a moment to concentrate, the he slammed on the table the infamous black monster. “The Demororgon!”

The other kids cursed, already thinking about the next move.

“Eddie, your turn.” ended Bill.

“I don’t know!” exclaimed the other guy.

“Use the fireball! “ Richie suggested.

“But…” started Eddie, but he was interrupted by Stan.

“Too risky, use a preservation spell!”

“Don’t be girly, use a fireball!” repeated Richie.

“Use the spell!” insisted Stan.

Bill slammed his palms against the table, but not harder as the first time:” The Demogorgon is tired of your silly arg-arguing. He’s coming for you, boom!”

“The fireball Eddie!” exclaimed, hurried, Richie.

“The spell!” yelled Stan, but his voice was covered by another one of Bill’s boom.

“Fireball!” exclaimed Eddie. He wanted to make Richie proud. He was like a mentor to him. Someday, he wanted to be like him. Maybe less foul-mouthed. So he threw the dices and they dropped on the floor. Eddie’s ears started to be hotter, and he knew they were all re, but he jumped up with his friends, trying to be the first to see them.

“Where are them?” asked Bill, searching them under the table.

“I don’t know!” replied Richie.

“I’m sure it was a thirteen” added Stan.

“How could you know?” asked Bill, crawling between the chairs.

“Oh my God, oh my God.” he began to chant Eddie. He was having a headache.

And then the door opened, and Richie knew it was his mother.

“We are in full military campaign!” tried Richie, but he knew the night ended.

"Just finished.” the woman corrected him. “It’s already … a quarter past eight!” she exclaimed, looking at her wristwatch. Richie did not understand why his mother could not be careless like that of Bill, a failed pianist who spent her time dusting the shelves and washing dishes, or like Stan’s, that the only rule that gave him was to pray three times a day. No, he had the career-woman mother, who made his son live following a rigid regime of rules that she was the first to not respect. Hypocritical.

“Come on, wait another twenty minutes!” Richie begged. “At half past eight your friends must be at home, tomorrow you have school and you have to rest, you will end next weekend.” Richie knew that he really just wanted to drive the other three kids off to stick to the bottle of some cheap liquor. He was no longer a child; he realized that his parents’ marriage was not working and that his mother was too stressed out of work. Besides, his father did not care much about what the woman did or didn’t, so Richie had been in vain for some years that they stayed together just to keep the respectable family façade, which Hawkins seemed to rely on above all. He looked at his mother, her brown curls, the pink shirt that screamed as advertising, and realized that it would be useless to say that in that way they would interrupt the rhythm, that the game would not be equally beautiful, the following week . She would simply limit herself to pointing out that they had been playing for ten hours, and that for a week it was more than enough. “Dad!” he tried, but his father replied, from the living room, where he was supposed to be sitting in front of the TV, that he would have to listen to his mother. Always the same answer. Richie rolled his eyes and turned to his friends. "You heard." he said, surrendered. "Do not worry, your mother is right, you know how my mother becomes if I do not come home on time.” Eddie answered. It was hard to forget it. Once he was back at 8.35 p.m. and she was furious, even threatening to call Mrs. Tozier. It would not have been a bad scene, and finally someone would have told that woman she was definitely not a good mother, but then Richie would not have been able to bring friends home, and they would have to find another place to meet.

“I found a dice.” said Bill, handing it to Richie.

The other kids had already finished dressing, while Bill was still without a jacket. “Hey guys.” Stan said, picking up a pizza carton “does anyone want it?” “How long have it been there?” Eddie asked, with a hint of disgust. “Ten hours?” Richie asked, but he already knew the answer. “How disgusting!” exclaimed Eddie. “Do you know how many germs could have been there?” “Do you never keep leftovers?” asked Stan, stunned. “Sure, but we’ll put them in the fridge as soon as we’re done eating, and mom knows how long it takes for all the different ingredients to deteriorate, so we do not risk taking any sickness.” the boy explained. “Diseases lurk in the disorder that reigns in your home.” Richie joked, while his friend passed him on the stairs that separated the cellar from the upper floor. Eddie punched him in the ribs, but not too hard to make him feel bad. The three boys politely greeted Richie’s parents, who barely seemed to notice their presence. Mrs. Tozier must have already started drinking and her husband was enchanted by the TV screen, which could have always transmitted the same program all day, but it would have fascinated him anyway. Richie led his friends out, where they kept the bicycles with they had arrived that morning. They were all brand new, with even a beacon, so that if they had met any cars during the night, they would not risk getting hurt. It was an idea of Mrs. Karspbak but in the end everyone had adopted that solution, a bit to not making feel Eddie alone, a little because it could really come in handy, especially to Bill, who did not live right next to the other guys and had a piece of road to do by himself.

“See you tomorrow!” Eddie and Stan greeted him, and they left faster than Bill.

“See you tomorrow.” he repeated, and started ride to reach his friends.

Richie, distracted by the flickering light of the driveway, could not reply.

As for the three kids it might seem dark, and although the days had already visibly shortened, and the sky was pitch-black, on the way back they met some schoolmates, who had probably just gone out to join their friends. After all, they had just entered the Junior High School while their older mates were adults.

Like that madman of Henry Bowers, or his hateful friend, whom everyone called Vic. Bill hated them, and perhaps even for that reason he did not care much who passed through the streets at that time of night. The first to leave was Stan. He was the one who lived closest to Richie’s house, and wished them goodnight, though a little in his own way. Richie had infected him with his trash mouth, even if at home he never spoke badly: he was too afraid that his mother would go crazy.

“Let’s d-do a r-ra-race!” proposed Bill.

“Is the prize a comic book?” Eddie asked. He liked comics a lot, and it was a pastime that his mother did not think was dangerous. Bill also read many comics, but recently he had gone to books, those without figures or anything else, just words written neatly on white and delicate pages. He just nodded in response, ready to win the comic number 66 of the X-Men. He liked that story, and often he felt like an integral part of that group of outsiders. Bill knew he was different from his friends. Not really different, only perceived differently. He also knew he was strange. Although he did not like to speak often, partly because of his situation, he was a master at observing and understanding. He started pedaling faster. Although his words often failed him, his body did not do the same. “Hey!” Eddie shouted behind him. It was an unfair thing, focusing on his friend’s obsession with security and loyalty, but also a good way to pay him back for what he had told Richie. Although the Tozier’s only child was his best friend and tried to protect him from everything, Bill knew that the other kids had confided to him. They did not want him in the group, and it was understandable, because even the teachers teased him at school when they thought he did not hear them. But to point it out to Richie, the only one that had always been there for him, was a low blow. Too much to not deserve a little spite.

Bill knew he had the victory in his hand when he reached the descent. It was the only one in the whole city, and a difficult climb to take, especially in the summer. He took speed, and barely heard his friend scream at him that he had not yet told go, that the race was not valid. Bill did not really care about the comic, even if, one way or another, he would get it. At that moment he did not care about anything, with the wind in his too long hair and little desire to brake before the intersection.

“Come back!” Eddie shouted, though he was sure his friend would not. He felt a little guilty for having said those things to Richie. But Stanley had gone down a lot heavier. The two boys split like that, without even saying a goodbye, and even if the next day they would meet again at school, nothing would ever be the same.

Bill came home with a smile. It had not been the happiest day of his life, but not even the worst. Also that bicycle ride had served to clear his mind. He entered the house while his mother seemed desperately looking for something among her scores. She must have lost one. It was disturbing, sometimes, to hear her play at night. “Hi boys,” she said, without even looking up, when she heard someone had opened the door. Bill had hardly made his own copy of the house keys, but now, with the fact that he had started junior high school and that he was going back and forth from school alone, weather permitting, it seemed right to both of his parents to give him this gift.

“Boys?” asked Bill. “I’m alone, tomorrow I have school an-and I’ve b-been w-with t-th-the b-bo-boys all day.”

“Bill, where’s Georgie?” asked his mother, and he looked at her perplexed.

“I don’t know, I was at Richie’s.” he repeated.

“He said he wanted to meet you before you arrived at home, you didn’t saw him?” asked his mother, worried. Bill barely managed to shake his head.

The next morning only three bicycles were parked in front of the school. No other student was doing that drudgery when he could still ask for a ride to his parents and the older ones already had their own cars. Or at least a scooter. Richie and his friends wondered why the most problematic member of their group was not present that day, but none dared to ask it out loud. They had other things to think about. Henry and Vic, in fact, were not the only bullies of the school, and that day a reduced and approximate version of the Losers Club discovered it. They weren’t the most loved kids in town. Bill, on the other hand, had accompanied his mother to the police station. She looked crazy, with disheveled hair and eyes out of their sockets. She did not want Bill out of her field of vision, for any reason in the world, and almost did not allow him to go to the bathroom, even if he tried to hold back for an hour. When he returned, he found his mother lighting up what was supposed to be the third or fourth cigarette of the morning. The sheriff had not yet arrived, though his secretary must have called him at least a dozen times. “Mrs. Denbrough, I promise you this time will be the good one.” Florence said. The sheriff amazed everyone with a dramatic entrance. He greeted his colleagues and barely noticed the intruders, at least until his secretary pointed them out as neatly as possible with a nod. He led them gently but firmly into his office, and Bill’s mother immediately started accusing him of not being able to do his job well, making them wait too long, losing sight of the main problem.

“My brother’s missing.” said Bill, without stuttering. It was the first sentence he had managed to say clearly since his mother had told him that his brother had disappeared.

“Could not he just have skipped school?” the sheriff asked. “But you do not read the reports of your men? We were here tonight and …” Bill stopped listening to his mother’s ramblings, focused on what the sheriff was writing with his typewriter. George Denbrough had officially joined the long list of missing children in America.
