@tenkoseiensei asked: ' i don't know anything about magic, ' he begins, ' but i'm sure i could take at least a dozen wizards in a fight. ' nerds versus jocks! or something like that, right? no, seriously! ' with people like me, havin' a good teacher's just about as amazing as bein' good at somethin' yourself. so how the hell does it work for you guys? is it innate? some kinda power drawn from the heart bullshit? ' it'd be pretty embarrassing to hear that spell slinging was welled up deep within everyone, but even then, yan qing was sure he didn't need it. being dead and incomprehensible was enough. ' seems like y'could make just about anything happen. power struggles must get big, sometimes. '
Tumblr media Tumblr media
❛ You are born with it. ❜ So, you suppose "innate" is correct in a way... but saying "you are born with it" feels wrong as well. Yet, you can't help but laugh at his question. Ahh... yes... magic is drawn from the heart, isn't it? Or rather... it's drawn from positive emotions for all others. Things like love or happiness are the strongest emotions to create magic, yet curiosity, excitement, wonder. Things like that work as well. It's a learning process, yet you are inherently broken. ❛ If you are not born a mage, you can never learn magic~ Humans have tried in every possible way. Swallowing mana stones, many magical weapons that run off of mana stones, or even praying to gods and pretending that gives them divine powers... ❜
Though, all of those times that someone claimed godly powers were false. They simply had a item that was enchanted by a mage of some sort. Perhaps it was cursed, perhaps it was blessed. You don't make it your business because it's boring. Humans are dreadfully boring unless you are tormenting them. They are weak, like wooden puppets that barely are hanging onto their pathetic strings. Still, you weren't expecting him to ask such a question and it lets you finally have a smile stretch across your face as you consider how to answer more and more.
❛ You make it sound as if it's something you despise. Is the heart hard for you to understand? ❜ Well, you aren't much different. ❛ A typical witch or wizard would use their heart to cast magic. Though, it's because emotions are the strongest medium you can have to have magic flow out of. That is why we love festivals, we love to sing, dance, and make merry... it makes our magic stronger when we are happy. ❜
You aren't very good at explaining this, Especially since this isn't even how your magic works. You aren't sure why it got all twisted and wrong for you, but everything is wrong with you. You are backwards, broken, wrong, worthless. You shouldn't even exist, you shouldn't be alive. Yet, at some point you weren't to live so badly that now you can't die.
❛ Though, That's just how normal wizards cast magic~ For some reason, I don't. I have to feed off of terror, fear, chaos~ That's how I gain my power. ❜ and you have done everything you can do to be strong and to be a factor in the power struggles that do exist.
Tumblr media
❛ Power struggles... They are frequent- Rather, they are constant. Even know, I'm sure that idiot Mithra is trying to plan how to kill Oz again. ❜ You sigh. You know that he has no clue who either of them are, but he is asking so you are going to talk! ❛ Oz is the strongest Wizard alive~ And he does nothing with that power. All he does is brood away in solitude all day long. He's gloomy, creepy, and annoying. I hate him, but Mithra isn't much better. He's aggressive, violent and unpredictable. All he does is kill me because he knows I won't die. ❜ Even if you do exactly what he tells you to, he'll still kill you sometimes anyways because he's just in a bad mood! Or if he asks you for help he still attacks you sometimes because he reflexively gets defensive. You seriously can't stand him. Oz is hardly better though, because you can't die he'll torture you.
Ahhh, this is annoying you now.
❛ Northern wizards like myself are the strongest there are~ Raw power is all we need. Oz could split the whole world in two if he so felt like it, so I suppose some would thank him for being so passive. Even for someone 1000 years younger then I, if they were trained properly then they could easily wipe out a large city with ease. Wizards die all the time in the north~ It's a constant struggle simply to survive... You either submit to the most powerful, or hope you are crafty enough to survive and become powerful. ❜

What is your opinion on Oz and Figaro's relationship chart in the official anniversary book using the word for brother (兄弟)? I'm quite curious about another person's point of view.
its actually part of a different word with two more kanji - 兄弟弟子, which is the word thats actually written in the anniversary book.
have you ever heard of the english phrase "brothers in arms"? in which two people bond under being in the same circumstances, generally in the military, but can be used more colloquially? do you think they are referring to each other as actual siblings there? No. they are not.
兄弟弟子 in the same vein means "brothers in learning" or, to put it more clearly, "pupils under the same teachers", since they both trained under the twins. in regards to 兄 and 弟 themselves, they are used to indicate seniority. 兄弟子 is the older disciple, and 弟弟子 is the younger disciple.
and, as always, see here for their own thoughts straight from the horses mouths, an important enough statement to be said in a character episode and not left alone to interpretation: https://kitashitei.tumblr.com/post/679186935724556288/a-long-lasting-relationship

When You’re in Trouble...
Akira: We’re just about to have tea together, Oz. Would you like to come too?
Oz: No.
Akira: But you only ever leave your room when you’ve got business to attend to. That seems pretty unhealthy…
> What do you do when you have alone time?
Oz: Nothing in particular. Though on the occasion I may read.
Akira: You do nothing? All day?
Oz: …… At times I meditate as well.
>  Do you ever invite anyone over?
Oz: I do not invite. Those who fear me keep their distance……
Oz: But it is not unheard of for Figaro, the twins, and the younger wizards to barge into my room unbidden.
> What’s your schedule look like?
Oz: I leave my room at mealtimes. On days when classes and training are to be conducted, I attend as well.
Oz: At night, I occasionally drink at Shylock’s bar. In the early hours of the morning, I attempt to sleep.
Oz: Do not worry. I am receiving the necessary exercise. My body is different from yours, like as not. Many days may pass before I require sleep……
Arthur: Master Oz, Master Sage! You were taking quite a while, so I have come to call on you.
Oz: ………….
Arthur: … Or at least, that is the excuse I shall give. I have in fact come to see Master Oz, as it occurred to me that perchance he will be declining today’s invitation to tea.
Arthur: I must return to the castle tonight. I worried terribly at the thought of being unable to see you – I’m so pleased to at least be able to say hello.
Oz: …… No, we were just about to join the others.
Arthur: Wow! Really?
Akira: (I knew it… Oz’ll listen to anything Arthur says…… Well, mostly. Next time I’m having trouble with Oz, I'll go through Arthur first.)

hellooo! i'm interested in learning more about mahoyaku but i'm not too sure where to begin... are there any introductory posts i can start out with?
HELLO! I can make one for you right now!
Tumblr media
Mahoyaku (魔法使いの約束 Mahoutsukai no Yakusoku, or Promise of Wizard) is a training game developed by coly!
The storyline follows the protagonist (default name Akira, you can choose a girl or boy MC) as they get transported into the world of wizards! From then on, they fulfill the role of the Sage, a person who leads the Sage's wizards in order to combat the Great Calamity that threatens the peace of their world.
All in all, there are 21 wizards who are summoned under the Sage. There are five countries with four wizards chosen from each one (with the exception of Northern Country).
Tumblr media
Northern Country — Characterized by its brutal and harsh temperament of both the inhabitants and its weather.
From left to right: Snow, White, Mithra, Owen, Bradley
Tumblr media
Western Country — Known for its technological advancements and the eccentric dispositions of the wizards and humans alike!
From left to right: Shylock, Murr, Chloe, Rustica
Tumblr media
Central Country — Known for its trade and the Granvelle kingdom, as well as the strong sense of justice and relative openness people have to wizards (most of the time).
From left to right: Oz, Arthur, Cain, Riquet
Tumblr media
Eastern Country — Citizens of this country usually have an aversion to interacting with others. That, and it's also stated in the 100 volumes of laws that it's forbidden to talk with strangers in the streets.
From left to right: Faust, Shino, Heathcliff, Nero
Tumblr media
Southern Country — This country's people are very kind and are familiar with a sense of community! Wizards and humans live together harmoniously.
From left to right: Figaro, Rutile, Lennox, Mitile
The main story can be read on healingbonds' dreamwidth here (starting from chapter one).
After that, the events are up next! Here is the index for that—there's a certain order to read them in, though, and this translator doesn't have all of them. Feel free to hit me up in another ask if you can't find the translation for an event/card and I'll give you a link.
Order of reading (excluding seasonal/holiday events):
Main story -> West Etude -> East Etude -> Central Etude -> North Etude -> South Etude -> Affection Stories = Character/Location Stories -> Preludes -> Ballads -> Concertos
I hope I introduced it well enough! Again, feel free to send me an ask for any more links or if you have any questions!! I also wanna hear your thoughts on it if you want to talk about it with someone!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do Ɛ>

2nd Anniversary Spot Sub-Episode [Figaro]
Tumblr media
Akira: Borda island is famous as a tourist attraction, so I heard that there are lots of tourists coming to celebrate anniversaries and such.
Akira: Do you have any particularly memorable anniversaries, Figaro?
Figaro: Anniversaries, huh…
Figaro: Wait just a sec, okay? I have too many recollections to sift through, it’s gonna take a while to make my life flash before my eyes.
Akira: Please stop that, your life flashing before your eyes isn’t a very auspicious phrase in my world.
Figaro: Really? Alrighty then.
Figaro: During my world domination times with Oz, we commemorated it once.
Figaro: Oz finally stepped out of the North and worked hard, so once we’ve conquered a fair bit of territory, I said I’d commemorate the occasion for him or something like that.
Akira: (If it weren’t celebrating a successful world domination conquest, this might have been heartwarming.)
Figaro: After that was when Faust was my apprentice and I mentioned that a celebration is in order when he’s trained ample enough, I guess?
Figaro: I think I also told everyone when we started reclaiming the wilderness of the South country, that we should celebrate success in cultivating the lands into arable ones when the time comes.
Figaro: ...Now that I think about it, I guess I do like calling for a celebration for others’ accomplishments, huh.
Figaro: I should have been a teacher instead of a doctor. Hmm..maybe I’ll become one of Rutile’s colleagues this time.
Akira: You’re indeed good at teaching.
Akira: I think you still can do that as a doctor, though.
Figaro: You’re right. Well then, if you become a legendary sage, I’ll give you the best celebration you can ask for. How’s that for motivation?
Akira: A legendary sage....
Figaro: I’m talking about being extraordinary. I like backing people who do exceptional things like conquering the world and leading a revolution, you know?

With You, Whom I Don't Understand // Mithra SSR Card Story
Tumblr media
CHAPTER 1
(Northern ruins)
Mithra: <Arthim>
(Crash)
The moment Mithra’s spell resounded with a dull echo, a curve cut through the giant beast's neck and sent it flying. The rest of its body, now beheaded, swayed back and forth several times in search for its lost neck and once in vain, it let out a chilling cry, turning into stone.
Akira: ("T-that was so quick, I barely grasped what just happened...")
Mithra: "What kind of mana stone is this? It's the size of a pebble."
Akira: "You did a good job, Mithra. Commission completed!"
A commission about a magic beast gone berserk because of the Calamity's effect arrived earlier today, so I asked the northern wizards to come and take care of it, but, Mithra, unsurprisingly, ended up defeating it all by himself.
Snow: "As expected of our one and only Mithry! He took it down in the blink of an eye."
White: "He is the manor’s Ace, after all!"
Akira: "You don't say... I was surprised how quickly it was over with."
Owen: "If that's the case, let Mithra do all of this boring work."
Bradley: "As long as you have him, it's gonna be taken care of in a jiffy, right? You don't gotta ask all of us to come here."
Akira: "I'm sorry...! I didn't think it'd end so soon."
Mithra: "But they're right - we don't need excess luggage."
Bradley: "Come again?"
Mithra: "Am I wrong?"
Owen: "I see you want to turn into stone very badly, should I make that wish of yours become a reality? I'll let you have a taste of Mithra's mana."
Mithra: "There's no way that will ever happen. You're weaker than I am, after all."
Snow: "Certainly, Owen's power at the moment is no match for Mithra's."
White: "Both you and Bradley should put a lot of effort shall you aim to take the place of the manor’s Ace."
Akira: ("They're right, Mithra is our Ace, without a doubt. Even I know how strong he is, but... that's all I know.")
(Dining room)
Akira: "I was hoping I could chat with Mithra a bit more, but he's not here either, even though it's lunch..."
Speaking of what I know about Mithra... I know that he's the second most powerful wizard after Oz, his taste in food is... peculiar, and that he suffers from insomnia because of his injury from the Calamity. And he also made a promise to protect Rutile and Mitile.
Akira: ("I wonder if I'll come to understand him better if we became closer...")
Owen: "Hello, Master Sage."
Akira: "Wha- Owen! What's with you, appearing out of thin air?"
Owen: "You ought to prepare for the summoning ceremony of new wizards. Because if not, those guys will surely get killed by Mithra. "
Akira: "Killed...!? Wait a minute, what do you mean by that!?"
Owen: "Go to the tower. Something very fun is happening there."
CHAPTER 2
(Running footsteps)
(In front of the tower)
Akira: "Excuse me! I heard that some sort of trouble happened here and I came to check!"
Rutile: "You arrived just at the right time, Master Sage!"
Mitile: "Mister Mithra wouldn't let us go!"
Mithra: "You're so noisy... Please sit still and behave."
Akira: ("He's holding them by the scruff of the neck like kittens...?")
Figaro: "Hi there, Sir Sage."
Akira: "Figaro, Lennox, just what happened here?"
Lennox: "The four of us were just heading over to the Southern country when Mithra came to stop us."
Mithra: "Because there's no way I could let them go there. I would be in trouble if you two went somewhere where I can't see you. I can't allow you to do that, because you're weak."
Akira: ("Ah, right, Owen doesn't know about the promise, so he probably thought Mithra was hurting them or something...")
Rutile: "Mister Mithra, please let us go. We're going on a day trip to visit mother and father's graves, together with everyone else from the South."
Mithra: "Grave visiting or not, it doesn't matter. Even if it's just a day trip, that won't change the fact that I won't be able to keep an eye on you."
Lennox: "Then, why don't you go instead of us two?"
Akira: "You want Mithra to go?"
Lennox: "Rutile and Mitile said they're worried, so we suggested to accompany them."
Figaro: "It does take a while to get to the City of Clouds. You have to fly for a bit after arriving at the tower, and it can be dangerous when going past the mountains, not to mention."
Mithra: "..... <Arthim>"
Mithra: "Come on, let's get this over with."
Mitile: "Wha!? Wait a minute, Mister Mithra!"
Rutile: "A-alright, then! See you later, Mister Leno, Doctor Figaro!"
Figaro: "Yep, have a safe trip. Ah, how about you go as well, Master Sage?"
Akira: "Me?"
Figaro: "You're always dealing with the requests we get, and you're doing your very best, you deserve to go and get some healing over at the South."
Akira: "Um, if you say so... I'm off, then!"
(City of Clouds)
Akira: ("Well, that was quick... Mithra's Door of Space sure is handy.")
Citizen: "Would ya look at that! More people are turning up!"
Rutile: "My, you came too, Master Sage! Hello everyone. These are our precious friends from the manor - Master Sage and the northern wizard, Mithra."
Citizen: "Ooh, the Sage and a wizard from a different country, you say! You and Mitile seem to get along with everyone at the manor, what a relief."
Akira: ("They know Mithra's from the north but, they're acting friendly nonetheless... I wonder if it's because they don't have a prejudice against wizards.")
Rutile: "We're going over to the graveyard right now, would you two like to join us as well?"
Mithra: "I'm not going."
Despite the way he spat out his reply, an expression, different from his usual one, had shown itself on Mithra's face.
CHAPTER 3
Akira: ("Mithra, what happened... That's not like you...")
Akira: "I appreciate the offer, but I'll have to decline as well. You two should go and enjoy your day with your parents. I'll take my time to look around the South—"
Mithra: <Arthim>
Mithra: "I'll come to pick you up later. Please don't touch anything strange-looking under any circumstances."
Akira: "Whoa, Mithra!?"
Mithra forcefully grabbed my hand and pulled me into the Door of Space, that had suddenly appeared.
(Tycho Lake)
Akira: "...This is...Tycho Lake? Why did you bring us here?"
Mithra: "I wonder why myself. I simply felt like coming."
Akira: "I-I see... This is a place full of Rutile and Mitile's parents' memories, isn't it."
Mithra: "Yeah."
Akira: "... S-speaking of, I've seen a mermaid here before."
Mithra: "Is that so..."
Akira: ("He's so absent-minded... But I wonder why... He looks so lonely...")
Mithra: "....."
(Splash)
Akira: "Wha!? W-what's with you all of a sudden, Mithra! Hold on... I-it's quite de—...!?"
(Screen fades to black)
(Bubble-bubble)
Akira: ("Who knew the lake was this deep... This is bad! I'll drown!")
(Splish-splash)
I felt my body, sinking just moments ago, getting forcefully pulled upward.
The very first thing I saw, was Mithra's evergreen eyes.
Mithra: "What are you doing?"
Akira: "Cough... S-sorry. And thank you. ...Although, I should be the one asking what you were doing. Why did you suddenly dive in like that?"
Mithra: "Well, you said there were mermaids in there, so I thought we could catch some for dinner."
Akira: "Um. Are you sure you can eat...mermaids...?"
Mithra: "They do sound tasty."
Akira: "I-I wonder about that..."
Mithra: ".....Why did you jump in?"
Akira: "Why you ask? Well, probably because... I wanted to help you...?"
Mithra: "Help? You? Me?"
Akira: "Yes..."
Tumblr media
Mithra, who blinked in bewilderment, immediately laughed with the innocence of a young boy.
Mithra: "Ahaha. You're the only person in this world who'd ever think about coming to my aid, aren't you?"
Akira: "That's..."
Mithra: "...Oh well, I'm grateful. You're the one who was drowning moments ago, though."
Akira: "Yeah, sorry about that. Thank you for saving me."
Mithra: "That much I can do."
(City of Clouds)
Rutile: "Goodness, you two are completely soaked!"
Mitile: "You're gonna end up catching a cold like this! I'll go fetch you some towels, okay?"
Mithra: "No need, our clothes are going to dry up quickly. More importantly, let's get going if you're done here."
Mitile: "Geez, you're so self-centred...!"
Akira: ("...As I thought, I don't understand Mithra very well. But, if possible, I'd like to get to know more about him from now on.")
Mithra: "Come now, you're coming with us too. It's going to cause me trouble if I can't keep an eye on you."
The Lake's Fortune // Card Training Story
(Lounge)
Akira: "Is swimming a strong suit of yours, Mithra?"
Mithra: "And what brought this about?"
Akira: "I just thought that you swam very naturally in the Tycho Lake, even though it's so deep your legs don't reach the bottom."
Mithra: "Well, yes, I am skilled at it since I grew up at a lakeshore."
Akira: "The northern lakes are always frozen, so I had the impression that you couldn't swim in them, but apparently you can."
Mithra: "There are times when they aren't. Well, it's only the surface that's frozen. Under that layer, it's just normal water."
Akira: "Brr, sounds so cold... When told 'frozen lake' the only thing that comes to mind is pond smelt fishing."
Mithra: "Pond smelt fishing?"
Akira: "It's a type of small fish from my world. You make a hole on the frozen water's surface and fish through it. Were there edible fish in the lake you used to swim in?"
Mithra: "There was some fish-looking creature that would jump out with great vigour in response to noise, and sometimes it would pierce into my neck."
Akira: "That's quite the aggressive fish! When fried, pond smelts taste really yummy."
Mithra: "... Now I'm craving fish. I'll go over to Tycho Lake to catch some real quick."
Akira: "R-Right now?"
Mithra: "Yes. Are you coming as well?"
Akira: "Yeah, but give me a minute to check what's left for today's schedule—"
Mithra: "No, we are going immediately, <Arthim>."

Riquet Character Episode 5: Because We Are Good Friends
Riquet: Master Sage! We’ve been looking for you.
Akira: Riquet, Mitile, what can I do for you two?
Riquet: Is there no way for Mitile to become a Central wizard? Even Oz is actually a Northern wizard, isn’t he?
Akira: Why the sudden question?! Do you have trouble with something?
Riquet: No, there is no trouble. It’s just that, because we are such good friends, we wish to become Sage’s Wizards of the same country. Is that right, Mitile?
Mitile: I- I wish to stay with my brother, with Doctor Figaro, and Lennox too, so for the time being not really.
Riquet: ….?! That’s not nice, Mitile! Did you just say you’d like to do magic training together with me!
Akira: Wait, please don’t fight! I’m sorry, as far as I know, there is no way to change the country you’ve been assigned to. If you two wish you do your training together, why don’t you ask Oz and Figaro to let you take the same class?
Riquet: I see! In that case, I will try talking to Oz. Let’s go, Mitile!
Mitile: We go meet Oz right now? I’m a bit scared of him. He always looks like he is about to yell at me.
Riquet: Don’t worry, I am going with you. If we sit next to Oz and repeat what we say to him, he will definitely listen to us.

Mahoyaku Interview: Tsushimi Bunta (Main Screenwriter) and Kazuma Kowo (Worldbuilding Supervision) + Coly Scenario Director
Tumblr media
Released: 28 February 2020
(!) Warning (!): Some spoilers for Main Story chapter 17 towards the end of this post.
TL note: I feel like going by surname-given name in this article;;; pardon the inconsistency Also support the fab fan translation site if you haven’t already: https://mahoyaku-eng.com/
Blurb: This is a world where mages and humans coexist, and this is a story that depicts the journey to save it—brought to you by screenwriter Tsushimi Bunta, known for their subtle writing style that retains a realistic touch, and Kazuma Kowo, who oversees not only character background but also the worldbuilding of each country, among other things. In this issue, we’ve asked what sort of things they were being mindful of during the game’s creation and if there are any behind-the-scenes that they could share. In addition, we’ve also included a few comments from the scenario director, who’s in charge of bringing together all story elements in this game from the Main Story to Training Location stories. We hope you enjoy everything that Promise of Wizard has to offer as you play through it.
Tsushimi Bunta: Freelance screenwriter. Main scriptwriter of Idolish7 as well as the author of the novel adaptations. In this game, they’re in charge of writing the Main Story, Training Location stories, and Event Stories among others.
Kazuma Kowo: Manga-ka and illustrator. Representative works include Junsui Adolescence (Ichijinsha Inc.), Dear Tear (Hakushensha Inc.), and Hinemosu Futari (Takeshobo Co., Ltd.). In this game, they’re in charge of worldbuilding supervision.
----- * * * -----
Part 1: Interview with Tsushimi Bunta (Main Screenwriter) and Kazuma Kowo (Worldbuilding Supervision)
Q: How did you get involved in the development of Promise of Wizard?
I got my first offer around five years ago, but I had to decline because I was already working on something else. They’ve continued to contact me a number of times since then, and then finally the right chance came along. There was the worldbuilding, and then the management and creation of character setting sheets that would shape their sets of values et cetera, which seemed to be a lot for me to handle. That’s why I asked Kazuma-san to help us out. We made games together in the past.
Q: Kazuma Kowo-san is in charge of worldbuilding supervision. Together, the two of you came up with the mages’ world as well as the story. What sort of discussions did you guys have when you were creating the character setting for the wizards as well as the world construct?
We decided on the fantasy genre, but it can range from fairytales to light novel stuff to something as massive as high fantasy. We started from discussing what extent would attract the audience’s attention the most. We talked over and over about it, and in the end, we moved forward with the idea of the countries having their own fantasy taste. We had Kazuma-san sort which wizard into which country first, and then we made adjustments over time. Oz was in the North at first, for example, and then there was Figaro in the Central country. Shino was more reserved, Heath was the flirt, whereas Leno was someone ruthless. Then we figured we should be finalising the characters that would be “the face” of each country first, so that people can remember the characteristics of each country more easily. These are Arthur, Murr, Shino, Rutile, and Mithra. Things that have wizards and witches vibe such as precious stones, stars, plants, fortunetelling, incense, books—a lot of these things are what girls usually like, so we tried to be brave and implement as much as we could.
Q: How did you develop the personality and other characteristics of each wizard from each country? Was there anything you paid attention to in particular when creating these wizards?
The central country has wizards with heroic qualities, so they lean more towards heroes, leaders, and priests. The Western country’s qualities stress on the eccentricity, the bizarre, and entertainment, so they have themes like the Cheshire Cat and Halloween. The Japanese equivalent would be the kitsune foxes and the shapeshifting tanuki racoons. The East has wizards that are gothic, dark and gloomy with melancholic feel to them. The Southern wizards are like the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella. They're good at helping others, honest, and pastoral. The Northern wizards’ image is like a demon lord or great witches who rule over humans—the power type that screams horror.
Q: In this game, wizards have powers that humans don’t have. Because of it, humans rely on them and they adore them. But, there are also occasions where the wizards are feared and detested. You’re depicting not only the “cool wizards”, but also the gap between the wizards and humans. There are also characters who have power but suffer and feel lonely because of it. I think things like that are what makes this game charming, but was there anything you were being mindful of in the process of writing that sort of aspect?
I don’t want to make the loneliness that the wizards feel to be theirs alone. Instead, I want the players to feel something similar, seeing as we all live in a society. I think anyone who lives in a society feels that they “want to be understood” or “want to understand [others]”. But at the same time, they also feel some sort of indignation where they “don’t want to be understood” or want to say “don’t you dare think you’ve understood”. I want the players to take any of these emotions and observe from the wizards’ point of view. I want them to let their imagination expand and enjoy themselves that way.
Q: Many of the wizards’ incantations are phrases that we’re unfamiliar with. I believe a lot of fans have put a lot of thinking into figuring out the meanings and the origin. How did you come up with these incantations?
In regards to incantations, I had Kazuma-san take the wheel. We had it in katakana so that it reads more smoothly in text, but we also adjusted it as we prioritise things like how easy it is to pronounce and for people to catch it. The impression you get from these incantations (sounds powerful, weak, ominous, or it’s still too early for you, et cetera), and how powerful they actually are—we have it all ranked and organised, so it would be nice if it shows one at a time.
Q: Was there anything about the “fantasy parallel universe” genre and the “relationship between wizards and the sage” you find to be the reason why you can deliver particular ideas? Was there anything you found interesting during the writing process?
I actually had to restrain my thinking process because I had to remind myself that I’m writing fantasy, so it’s like I can’t include things that are normal and already exist in the real world. Even if I come up with a good idea, I’ll end up thinking that it’s a little too normal and then it gets scrapped.
Q: The existence of the previous sage who doesn’t put on airs and has an approachable personality becomes one of the attention-grabbing elements in the storyline. In your mind, what sort of character is the previous sage?
A white-collar worker who works at an exploitative company. They can say pretty irresponsible things to the mages and amuse themselves with it. But they also get scared simply from scary things, and they have the boldness to say something selfish.
Q: Please tell us, if there are any, things that seem trivial but it’s something that you were being particular about during the process of writing the Main Story. These can include scenes, specific lines, or portrayal of something.
The same goes for the Main Story and the Sub Stories, but I want people to feel excited and let them imagine all sorts of things. I always have that in mind and that’s why I’ve added lots of details into the setting. “If I were a mage”, “If I were a citizen of this country”, “Which country would my friends come from”, “What does this taste like”, “What are their previous love stories like, and what’s their life been like until now”... I think being able to have so much freedom in imagination is what the real pleasure of the fantasy genre is. I hope it’s become a world that allows the players to indulge themselves in daydreaming.
Q: Lastly, please leave a message to all fans who are out there supporting Promise of Wizard.
Thank you for playing the game! It’s pretty much my first time writing fantasy, so right until it was released, my heart kept pounding thinking if it would really count as fantasy… But I’m so happy that a lot of people are having fun with the story! Please continue your support for Promise of Wizard from now on too!

Part 2: Interview with Mahoyaku’s Scenario Director
Q: How did you make this job offer to Tsushimi Bunta-san? What is it about Tsushimi-san’s works and writing style that makes it charming to you?
Right around the early stages of the establishment of our company, Coly, one of their past works touched my heart. Their script writing ability was so mind-blowing that I thought I just had to make this offer. In the end, that also instigated Kazuma-sensei’s involvement, and that’s how we got them to help us out as well. I think one of the things that make Tsushimi-sensei’s work charming is the universally relatable characters, the writing that makes the reader want to cheer the characters on, as well as a whole new world that they bring to the readers. Tsushimi-sensei has the ability to transform unsaid feelings and unwritten motions into breathtaking scenes. Sometimes, trivial dialogues can depict genuine feelings within human hearts, like that of a child’s. You can feel through the writing affection and gentle point of views towards those in a weaker position.
Q: The setting of this game involves the main character who suddenly wandered into another world where mages live. Then, they became the “sage” who gather up the wizards and guide them. How did you decide on what the story was about and which direction it was going?
We had the people in our company come up with several ideas and we went through them to see which ones had and hadn’t already been used in regards to the fantasy parallel universe genre, which was the direction we were going with. From there, we ended up with a story where the sage, someone who wandered into another world, and wizards fight together. We don’t want you to forget reality. Instead, we want you to enjoy it even more. We want to bring a world that gives you courage and positive energy, and we want to deliver the wizards’ world that’s blinding, mysterious, and exciting.
Q: Could you tell us a scene or a line from the main story that’s particularly memorable for you? And why as well, if possible.
Every scene in the main story is memorable for me, so to be honest with you, it’s really hard to pick one. But I was particularly driven in the execution of Chapter 17’s “Rustica’s Request”, so I cherish it a lot. It’s something that Rustica said to Chloe, who was tearing up silently as his feelings were hurt, “That’s because there’s only one of it in this world. This is something that only you can make.” It’s a sweet line, one that will always stay close to you and give you warmth. It may sound cheesy, but no matter how many times you read it, it echoes through in every corner of your heart.

Mitile’s Family - Mitile’s Character Episode Translation
Tumblr media
Akira: Mitile’s mother was a witch too, right?
Mitile: Yes! I heard that she was called The Great Witch Tiretta. She was strong and she lived a very long life.
Mitile: Dr. Figaro and Mr. Mithra of course, she has also met with Sir Snow, Sir White, and Sir Oz too.
Mitile: There’s been instances where people I met for the first time would be surprised when I say I’m Tiretta’s son.
Akira: Wow. So she was a celebrity.
Mitile: Ehehe, that’s right!
Mitile: She was good at magic, but she’s a little bad at doing housework and her handwriting wasn’t that good either. She was pretty, bright, and a cute person too. Nii-sama would always talk about her like that.
Mitile: That’s why I practiced doing housework and my handwriting more, now I’m better at it than my mother!
Mitile: I’m still inexperienced in magic, but I want to be able to surpass my mother with my magic too one day.
Akira: Mitile is good at studying after all. I’m sure you will see the results of your magic training too.
Mitile: Thank you very much, Sir Sage. Whenever you need help, I don’t mind if you rely on me!

"Akira..." Their name is said in a whisper, barely heard over everything else around them. Towel around her neck, water bottle in one hand and her other waving her friend over at a rapid frequency. Nervousness and urgency written all over her face, and yet her beckoning drags them all the way back to a corner of the dance studio. Not wanting to be heard - Not wanting to be seen at all while thinking this. "So...Um..." She stutters, looking around the room. Watching the Wizards dance with the Maidens - joint lessons in preparations for one of their next joint lives - everyone giggling and joking around and smiling. But some of their appearances - demeanor, attitude, aura - has always made her unsure how to proceed. "...So, like...Oz and Figaro." She says their names like she's admitting some sort of sin, "I don't know if you've ever really talked about them before. But they have this...mature bubble. Not like when Heath and Shino performed, or when I've met Cain or Nero - they're all shiny, but they're like...Idols, you know?" Said as if she wasn't one herself. (in which diantha greatly respects and fears the old people, and in which kait shoves in lore into the producer au)
"Don't they?" and what they respond with is not a shared feeling of being intimidated, but rather a giddy beat of their heart, as if they were sharing a secret. The worried expression when she called them over gone, replaced with something much more joyful. Had Akira not known them, and had Akira been in the same position as her, they might've had a similar reaction. After all, meeting those two (especially Oz) had been almost scarier than meeting Owen for the first time. A seniority that not even any of their bosses at past jobs had held, positions curated carefully by connections and words and experience, demanding respect simply by entering the room. Figaro didn't always carry it to that extent, Akira had found, their first meeting a rather easy-going one (it was the second one that welcomed them to tension that made it difficult to breathe). But the ability to seemingly turn the aura on and off with carefully chosen words was, frankly, more terrifying sometimes.
"They might not perform as often as the others, but I'm still in awe each time they do...even during practice like this it's hard to take your eyes off them, don't you think?" all said with a smile, they had only gotten distracted by them once today! Which, all things considered, was an improvement. "They have a lot of good advice too, so I hope everyone can continue to learn a lot by watching them..." the two were already an immense aid every single day (even if Oz' short speeches often caused confusion at first), but watching them help people train and watching them in action was very, very different. "Of course, I'll help out where I can too", confident nod, invigorated both by the energy in the room and from praising two dear friends.
"I'm looking forward to see your growth as well, Diantha", they continue, expression softer this time. "Figaro and Oz has both helped me out a lot, they're very kind and passionate people so if there's anything you'd like to talk to them about you can tell me, and I'll help you out", she had been stuttering, and Akira had been worried something bad had happened, not to mention their own vivid memories of stumbling over their words in their presences. Diantha was a good kid, but she was also a kid who drew herself away off-stage. So if Akira could help her feel more comfortable, they'd do that.
And then, a realization.
"Ah...uh, well, I guess asking Bishop to help you is better...?" that...would make more sense.
