#being called butch just reminds me of how much males have the freedom to navigate between male archetypes and how people pay attention to #the distinguishing features of these varying masculinities #but when a female is seen as masculine it all gets lumped under the “butch” category #her masculinity is seen as unnatural and therefore incapable of being considered genuine or taken at face value as it is with males.#its always brought into question instead of taken in consideration with the rest of the woman's life and experiences and her particularities #Hence... Butch is still being treated as though its a huge lesbian cultural phenomena instead of a specific niche thing #also i dont mean to invite the “you dont pass!!” anons again bc that idiot is missing my point entirely (which is that im truly not trying)#but the fact is that for the past 3 years i have found myself increasingly navigating the male social world #and discovering what it means to me as a female to have access to the ability to take my “masculinity” for granted... relax #forget about it #etc #i think thats entirely antithetical to the Butch thing which seems to rest on the tension of other peoples expectations of her #people broadly are more surprised to find out that im interested in women just as much as they're surprised that im a gym queen iykwim...#ive worked hard for this and now that ive gotten the Woman Social Role thing pretty much entirely out of the way i am living the dream #i think a large part of that is learning as a dyke to appropriate the language of gay men theres a reason their terminology had #staying power even when their scene was *literally* dying meanwhile all that seemed to survive from dyke spaces was butch n femme ??#its because theirs didnt necessitate the building and maintenance of a scene in order for the subculture to hold its head above water #their labels *largely* weren't predicated on their relationships to gender roles and its telling that for dykes it was #their labels rested on the need to simply show up anonymous n be able to easily flag whether they were looking to fuck or be fucked #alongside the set of circumstances under which they would be fucking or getting fucked or what have you #it all comes back to the restrictions of female social blah blah blah and i think the sooner we collectively set down what we see as our #responsibility as lesbians and as feminists to Be A Woman the sooner we can step outside of that #n start thinking clearly about our individual circumstances and the necessity of putting on your own oxygen mask first before helping others

it's been pointed out on here before that a lot of terf arguments are actually rooted in sexist idealology that feminists fought and died to unnormalise decades ago and that's its own kettle of fish but one thing i also find very frustrating about this so called 'radical' feminism is that it's so... defeatist? like the moment you categorically label an entire section of society as Bad and Inherently Evil then there's also the implication that nothing can be done about it, and it completely takes all accountability away. saying all men are evil is just another way of saying boys will be boys. he raped her because he's a man. he hit her because he's a man. he didn't listen because he's a man - it's almost offensively oversimplified. there's no point trying to fix this issue in society because men are just Like That, okay! so now what? it's not like they're going anywhere, so you just accept that 50% of the population are evil and will forever treat you terribly and there's nothing to be done about it bc they're biologically predisposed to it? like is that fr the argument here? you're soooo radical for that

Getting your aura unlocked, through becoming a Huntress or some other means, is very common amongst the sapphic women of Remnant, due to the possibility of aura conception. When two people's souls are very closely aligned, it is possible for them, during a moment of intense intimacy (not always sexual, although that's the most common cause), to merge their auras and spontaneously create an embryo with a new soul in the womb of a participant. No baby batter required.

Do you know "Eggnoid"? It's a rather old webtoon about a girl being put into circumstances on taking care of a robot guy who hatched from an egg (hence the title) the robot guy appears to be a grown man, but he has mental capabilities of a toddler and even acts like one. So, it's like those types of "born sexy yesterday" tropes but the gender reversed. The girl also repeatedly shown crushing over the robot guy and at some point, she called him her boyfriend despite she's supposed to be his caretaker.

I haven't read it, but I can definitely attest that there's a double standard when it comes to gender roles and age gaps / situations of grooming / etc. in literature but especially in webtoons. And by that I mean I've legit seen people hold comics like Lore Olympus accountable for their gross dynamics between a young teenage girl and the much older and richer love interest, but then turn around and say it's "couple goals" for a teenage boy to hook up with a much older woman. At the end of the day there's still a power imbalance due to the age gap and the massive differences in life experiences between the two, gender doesn't really change that.

Big ole' sip of hot tea as a take, but speaking as an AFAB, a lot of women are just as capable of grooming and taking advantage of younger men in the same way as men towards young women, it's just that on the surface people tend to get skittish about addressing that because they don't want to sound like they're going "yeah well actually women though-" and dismissing the notion of toxic masculinity. Which yes, that's a fair thing to worry about, some people do use that as a way to dismiss the arguments made regarding patterns of grooming behavior in men towards young girls (among many other problems in which men and toxic masculinity are held accountable), but like any topic of this nature, it's not always a cut and dry black and white thing. Toxic masculinity and the grooming of teenage girls by adult men is a very real problem! But just like how we can understand the nuance that being a man by default doesn't immediately make you a predator, we should be able to understand the nuance that being a woman doesn't give you a free pass to do the same things we call out men for doing without consequences. It's like the double standard in LO that it's okay for Persephone to do the same things - if not worse - than what Leuce and Minthe and Thetis do, because she's the main character and she's not some scummy "mud-sucking" lower class person, she's rich and a Queen and she's wearing a giant hat so it makes it okay /s

Unfortunately the saying of "I support women's rights and women's wrongs" is being used in a completely tone deaf "literally excusing the main character of her crimes and wrongdoings against others because she happens to be a woman" kind of way, while missing the real point of the saying - supporting women's wrongs doesn't mean you celebrate their abuse towards others, it just means women shouldn't automatically be viewed as irredeemable "crazy bitches" for making mistakes like any other human does, and like any other human, they should be given the opportunity to grow and heal and learn from their wrongs.

When it comes to Persephone specifically, it can't even be chalked up to a "one time mistake" anymore, she's literally been showing patterns of abusive behavior for years now and refusing to take accountability, and now even Rachel is meme'ing on it knowing fully well it's what people are calling Persephone out for in the critical spaces. That's not "supporting women's wrongs", that's enabling the wrongs of a person because they happen to be a woman, and that's not okay. Persephone isn't a "girl boss", she's a bully.

I think the double standard in these age gap romances also speaks to the idolization and fixation on women as being nothing more than conquests for men as well. People who romanticize age gaps between a young woman and an older man think, "Wow, that woman is so mature for her age, enough that an older richer man would choose HER to be his wife! So romantic!" when in reality those who know those dynamics are unhealthy and toxic recognize it as an older man taking advantage of a young woman who's being love-bombed into believing she's "mature for her age" so that she'll sleep with him. Meanwhile, on the other side of it, those who romanticize young men getting with older women tend to come at it from the angle of "well she's so old and washed up, no man could ever love her, her chance for love and a happily ever after is gone now! it's so wonderful of that young man to give that sad and lonely old woman love and attention!" and yet fail to see it from the same perspective of an older person manipulating a young person with zero life experience, because there's still this deeply-rooted ideology that women are "used up" by age 30 and any man who gives her attention beyond that age range is a hero. Completely neglecting the fact that relationships aren't off the table at all for older single people and they don't need to involve robbing the cradle.

I blame the lack of older couple representation in media tbh, so many mainstream romance stories are basically just this:

To pull it out of the perspective of LO and webtoons for a second (sorry, I'm going on a hell of a tangent here), remember how gross it was when it was revealed in Fifty Shades Darker that Christian had been introduced to the concept of BDSM at age 15 through one of his mom's friends (i.e. an older woman!) who Anastasia calls "Mrs. Robinson"? And they had that relationship until he was 21? And they never really did anything about that, it was pretty much just there to explain why Christian was fucked up but he still got married to Anastasia, an innocent woman who he was repeating the cycle of abuse with, and lived happily ever after anyways?

Yeah. That was pretty fucked up.

#we all need to do better to hold ourselves accountable for shitty behavior #there are def societal issues at play that predispose people to have certain opinions or react differently based on concepts like gender #but true feminism means making a better world for women *and* men *and* everyone within and outside of that binary #it's not “rich and powerful women can do whatever they want because they're boss babes and deserve to be mean"#that's literally more along the lines of white feminism which we've definitely talked about here before #and just gender supremacy as a whole which isn't helpful for anyone #always remember to ask yourself: “is it feminism or is it misandry?”#because a lot of legit misandrists try to moonlight as feminists and really just hurt the cause as a whole

the fact that almost every character in ofmd is specifically a gay man is seriously so fucking special like usually a show will have 1 character from a minority group and then that character has to be every single thing - a person the straight/homophobic audience can accept and even like, someone that deals with their issues the way they "should" be dealt with, someone who's not too much of anything but simultaneously everything because every expected trait has to be displayed at some point or another.... versus this show with its massive cast of characters who are all able to embody specific (and extremely varying) ways to be a gay man where all of their journeys and personalities and approaches to their sexualities are so unique to them but so true to people that exist in real life........ i wish i could express this better coz it's such an incredible thing to see it genuinely makes my chest hurt with how much it means to me

I'm so peeved that literally every aspect of the Gerudo in BOTW/TOTK serves to make me mad bc I love the Gerudo desert and I think that some of the most interesting NPCs to speak to are Gerudo.........alas

#august.chr #trying my damndest to piece together a BOTW/TOTK timeline bc I dont believe for an instant that the divine beasts are 10k years old #and i'm scraping my brain trying to think if any cutscenes from pre-calamity mention the ban on voe in the city #bc i'm trying to justify an in-universe reason why the gerudo would implement such a policy #given you know. they're a trading city. and banning men. means banning half of all possible trade partners.#my best guess is that the gerudo were always somewhat isolationist but were much more lenient #until the calamity hit and the gerudo faced serious damages from ganon's destruction and vah naboris causing sandstorms for a while #in the turmoil the gerudo banned visitation but after enough years it became obvious that this was destroying the city's economy #so they opened the gates back up but only to women. because the gerudos' need to find men to sustain their population in combination with #the new Inaccessability of gerudo women invited a rather predatory type of crowd. so this discriminatory gate system was an attempt to cull #this behavior. but it only made it worse because it just cemented gerudo women in the cultural perception as hard to get and Foreign #<-(aka Interesting skeevy edition)#so to the gerudo opening the gates means the not unlikely possibility of inviting harassment from scummy guys but not opening the gate will #never allow this terrible dynamic to heal. and instead of trying to forge a healthier relationship with dating for gerudo women #the gerudo have leaned into this gender seperationist ideal. as seen with mattison and the whole culture of removing young gerudo girls from #their fathers and the kingdom of hyrule at large in favor of staying in gerudo town #anyways sorry i hate the gerudo's worldbuilding but i actively hate the fan approaches to make it Woke Gender Essentialism more #it's literally not better if you go 'well the gerudo would let trans women into town if they just claimed to be women' like.#no they wouldn't. they let link into town in the gerudo vai fit because he passes as a woman in the outfit. if he changes clothes in town he #stops passing and they kick him out.#gerudo town is literally TERF city it's a city where a society of women have isolated themselves and banned men from interacting and will #only allow women they subjectively deem to be Womanly Enough to enter their gates #and teach young gerudo girls that men are dangerous and that they have to grow up in gerudo town until they come of age. like it's literally #a law that gerudo diaspora have to move to gerudo town before puberty #anyways sorry this is like the third time in the past 2 years i've drafted a post about how i think the gerudo's worldbuilding #is both illogical and abusive to the gerudo growing up in it. but illogical and abusive does not make for unrealistic worldbuilding either #so i want to find a way to work within its confines while also complaining loudly about it the entire time

i like how barton went from being like... a hippie in terms of how he viewed sex in his early twenties, then kind of abstained from it for a few years / became sexually repressed, which... definitely isn't such a good thing. BUT then he became even more of a freak (and i do mean that in the good way this time LOL) around the time he started residency because WOW is that shit stressful. though that was also unfortunately around the time when he really started to spiral as well 😬 but we don't need to talk about that ahahhh

Wellll not so good for lack of better words JSJSJ because barton is-#a serial killer whom has actually been sensationalized in the news (bc y'all know how terrible the news is when it comes to this stuff)-#into being called the 'heartbreak killer' because barton manipulates people and basically says exactly what they want to hear as well-#as makes himself as physically attractive as possible to voluntarily get his victims to come with him which is. yeahhh YIKES #but i can imagine that as soon as the news found out for the first time that his victim had last been reported to be going on a date-#with someone that they latched onto that and made it into a story that lacks the seriousness that something like that should-#always be treated with TBH because although they are just characters whenever it comes to the scope of their world they aren't and-#are living people so??? it's TOTALLY wack to be exploiting people like that to get views especially in a place like gotham where-#there's already enough craziness as it is without giving a serial killer a name that basically equates the murders to 'heartbreaks'-#which are definitely not on the same level at ALL but anyhow. i'm rambling now SKSKS #this isn't to say that barton always uses his sexuality to fulfill bad objectives bc like i said it isn't bad in and of itself -#though the fact that he does says something about him as a person since it's a rather sensitive thing for a lot of people you know?#and making people feel like they're wanted? when in actuality you just?? want to kill them??? it is severely messed up so yeahhh #tw: manipulation #tw: sex mention #tw: barton just being an asshole tbh

you know. i have noticed a lot of people who like aelwyn seem to be there for adaine & aelwyn. which is incredible and they're correct and i love that for them. but i think it also puts me in a weird spot a little, because i am more so here for aelwyn & fabian and i don't think as many people are doing that, at least in the way i am

#i think fabian is alloaro and at least a good amount into men #and chasing after aelwyn because she fits his father's legends #and everything about fabian's bravado was sculpted in his father's image and that's not so easily left behind #(the hero always saves the maiden. that's how the story goes)#i think aelwyn is sapphic and mostly not really into relationships at all #and i think they both understand each other in ways neither of them have the courage to to look in the eye #and they'd have a hell of a time sparring their emotions out together #the blood the sweat the tears the decorum the legacy the shadow it leaves in its wake. y'know?#d20 #aspen tag #also they try making out once and end up talking about their feelings #and proceed to literally never do either of those again #but it's mutually agreed they're bros and prefer it that way #i don't think either of them ever really wanted it. it's just yet another way to hide the vulnerable truths at their core
