List of things in Andor that absolutely snatched my weave fucking Star Wars Disney let be in Andor:
Attempted rape.
Visceral and realistic police brutality.
A meaningful queer relationship.
A none-insignificant amount of blood and violence.
Implied drug abuse.
Imperial characters that were very real people-- and not just British cartoon villians.
Pointed depictions of bureaucratic laziness and incompetence.
Consistent, coherent, well rationed Marxist, socialist, anarchist, and revolutionary theory and philosophy.
A realistic depiction of the practicalities and morally compromising nature of fighting a totalitarian regime. The degree of physical, emotional, and spiritual sacrifice that actually goes into it.
Genocide.
Genocide being called explicitly genocide.
Prison abolitionism.
A fancy white woman forced to sacrifice her daughter for the cause drunkenly dancing her feelings away like the queen she is.
"Make it stop, make it stop."
Weaponized old lady brick being a highlight kickass moment.
Several characters fates being left hauntingly ambiguous.
"Work visa."
A care to squeeze in these strangely humanizing moments-- like Luthen taking a moment to get into his Antique Dealer headspace in season 1, or Cassian taking the time to water plants he likely never had a chance to return to in the final episode.

Thinking a lot about the ending of Andor and my own little head canons.
Honestly, the more I sit with it the more I think that both things can be true in that Cassian loved Bix but also is at peace with how they left things. Of course he misses her. Of course he thinks about her. Of course he wonders what their life could have been. And yet, once she’s gone, he just seems so much lighter.
There’s no question that they loved each other deeply and that he was devastated when she left. How she left. But ultimately so much of their relationship was him “saving” her or trying to protect her from the empire, from her trauma, from herself. The poor man was exhausted and was desperately clinging to the idea of a life with her that he couldn’t see the life they actually had. How isolated they were together, even on Yavin 4. While I take some issue with the way Bix left him, the “I’ll wait for you” speech, and the pregnancy… I’m grateful that she took that step back. Sometimes the most profound act of love towards another person is to let them go. She loved Cassian but I think she was also honest with herself about what their relationship had become. That ultimately they were not in a space to be healthy together.
When we see Cassian about two years or so after she’s gone, he’s more relaxed than we’ve seen him in the entirety of when they were together. He has built a little life for himself, a community, a home on Yavin 4. Maybe isn’t exactly what he envisioned, but it’s the life he needs. Sure, he’s lonely but he also just seems to be at peace. When Vel tells him to reach out to Bix, he shrugs. He says maybe but it feels like he’s saying no. Why? Because he’s moved on! He’s finally feeling like he can let her go, that their story is over. I’m sure he still has love for her but it’s shifted into something else and he’s found peace with her on his own way.
Then Jyn comes along.
She’s so different from Bix and yet the love she feels and the heart she brings to the rebellion reawakens something in Cassian. Hope was fading away, then there she was, bringing it home. It knocks the wind out of him and you can see it in every look he gives her. He’s impressed and terrified and transfixed. She’s a walking hurricane and yet she’s his mirror. She’s the echo in his shadow. Jyn’s the partner he needs to make that last push against the rebellion. As Luthen said, they burn for a sunrise they’ll never see and it’s a beautiful thing that they can hold each other when the end does come.
In that final scene, we learn Bix’s fate and see that she also found a home and community as well. She gets to take solace in knowing that in making the choice for her and Cassian, she saved him in a way. She saved herself. She finally found her peace. I like to think she met someone and that they reignite something she felt was long gone or that she’d never have after Cassian. I hope she was able to move on too and that they help her raise her baby and that she feels seen and cared for and loved. Of course she’ll tell her child about their father and the legacy he left behind with the rebellion. But at the same time, I have no doubt that that child will grow up in a better world because Bix left.
Who knows, maybe if the Rogue One team had lived, maybe Cassian and Bix would have reconnected? Maybe. Maybe not. But I like to think that if they had, it would be as friends. Sure, their family wouldn’t be the most conventional and there would undoubtedly be some awkwardness in the beginning, but they’d find their way. They’d co-parent and I do honestly believe that Jyn and Bix would have a lot of respect for one another and would be great friends. Jyn would love that child like her own and would be a bad ass step mom.
All this to say, at its core, Rogue One and Andor (pretty much all of Star Wars for that matter) is all about hope. Hope through rebellion. Hope through friendship. Hope through love in all forms.

someone tell me why cassian is always wearing heavy coats?? does he have poor circulation?? was kenari a super warm planet and he’s never adjusted to anything else?? tell me why he’s always wearing like five layers of clothing
we know the brothel can’t be that cold because the hostess all wear sleeveless dresses. and i know it’s raining but is a multi-layer coat really necessary?
aldhani can’t be that cold either because skeen goes shirtless in one of the scenes with little to no reaction to the weather
ferrix can’t be cold either. sure they all wear sleeves and pants for the most part but that looks like 4 layers he has on. bix usually wears leggings and a long sleeve top

jedha is a desert. i know desert doesn’t mean it’s always hot but jyn is right there and she’s not wearing a fur coat.

ghorman + coruscant. again, ghorman might have sleeves and pants weather, but once again cassian has on layers, even while he’s inside. and on coruscant they regulate the weather so there’s no way he would need that many layers, especially in a shop. he also leaves his coat on in multiple scenes at the safe house when bix is clearly shown in crop tops or tank tops.

bonus! yavin 4
i’ve come to the conclusion that cassian carries his giant fur coat with him, despite having 2-3 layers already on.

to elaborate on my last post abt leftist/non leftist takes in andor. the entire show has complex political storytelling None of it can be discussed solely through story archetypes of "good" and "evil." for example syril's character. he did not have a "redemption arc." you are not supposed to "forgive him." he is killed (by one of the people he oppressed!) because his actions are unforgivable and that is the narrative justice he deserves. the audience being encouraged to sympathize with him does not equate to him displaying "the good within evil."
the point of his character arc is that humanity does not survive under fascism. he is an antagonist, yes, but he is just as much a victim of the *real* enemy of the narrative (fascism!) as every other character in the show is. everyone suffers under fascism, even those who serve it. his individuality is stripped from him; he is conditioned to obey, to further the goals of his superiors, to place career ambitions over everything, all without questioning why. which leads him to participating in things he does not agree with. when he learns what's really happening on ghorman, his worldview is shattered. he was raised to believe the empire is infallible, and discouraged from developing his own opinions. but he does. he does, because he's human, and the people he meets there are human, and when he is faced with it, he cannot fathom the violence he has helped inflict upon them. that is his own tragedy, and a tragedy shared among the little people who serve at the behest of an imperial machine. when they realize how much damage they have done it's too late. it's not redemption, it's recognition. in an ultimate form, it would be acceptance. (think the imperial lieutenant double agent from the aldhani arc in s1. "you'll hang for this" "7 years serving you? i deserve worse than that") there is no good and evil dichotomy to be found here, no matter how nuanced you try and make it. andor is a show about victims, not heroes. you can't place the actions of characters in vacuums without reconizing that they are REactions, and everything they do is just as important as what is being done to them
#mostly seen this on youtube where people lack political backbones but#yeah. he's a fun one and i don't like people watering this down#he's not a good guy! he's not supposed to be a good guy! but that doesn't matter!#it's not about being good it's about learning to recognize the oppressive regime built around you#whatever. idk how people can watch this show and refuse to engage with its political themes#man that's the whole show#andor#andor season 2#andor spoilers#andor star wars#syril karn#andor meta#andor analysis

In light of the current state of the world I feel like Cassian Andor, a man of color who’s home was ravaged by colonial forces and had to escape as a child, being sentenced to 6 years in an imperial slave camp for the crime of 'looking suspicious' is a poignant story right about now

My two cents on the level of violence in Andor is that in a franchise that’s centered on warfare and the horrors of living under an authoritarian regime, it feels inevitable that at least one of the stories goes into some dark territory. I mean, it’s war. War is hell. Once you get past the cool energy swords and the funky looking aliens, what you have is a story in which the universe is being torn apart by several warring factions with one faction trying to stamp out everyone’s rights and liberties.
Also, it’s not like this is new for Cassian’s side of the Star Wars universe. In Rogue One, there’s literally a crying child that was trapped in the middle of a firefight. Andor feels like an extension of the violence depicted in Rogue One.
