I don't understand the lthq announcement, could you explain it?
well as I wrote in tags it doesn’t really say what 'partnered' means but I think it makes most sense to read it as louis has put some money into the project : album release
Strap Originals is Pete Doherty’s (of the Libertines and his own solo projects of course) record label but it’s a tiny indie label and so probably doesn’t have the means financially to do a big album launch.
It’s really cool because louis has talked before about wanting to help small indie artist release music (remember the girlband?) and now he get to do that together with some true uk indie heavyweights like.. pete is indie royalty! Louis’ big brain man.. he’s gonna do big things this is only the beginning

Louis Tomlinson and Pete Doherty‘s record label have come together to release new music by emerging artist Andrew Cushin. Check out his latest track ‘Wor Flags’ below.
Both the former One Direction star and The Libertines frontman are set to support the emerging singer-songwriter with the release of his upcoming debut album, ‘Waiting For The Rain’.
Released on September 29, the LP will be made available from Doherty’s own ‘Strap Originals’ – an independent record label devoted to signing new, original artists and retaining their right to evolve and take creative control over their own work. Pre-orders are available here.
Now, following his time playing to sold-out crowds across the US as support to Louis Tomlinson on his ‘Faith In The Future’ world tour, Tomlinson has also offered to lend a supporting hand with the album release, and looks to help Cushin reach a wider audience.
Both Tomlinson and Cushin met last year after the former caught Cushin’s appearance on the Sky Sports show Soccer AM. After being impressed by his performance, he offered him a support slot in London, which then led to support shows across the US and Europe through 2023. From there, Tomlinson and Doherty bonded over their mutual admiration for the artist.
“As somebody who has been interested in up-and-coming acts, working with Andrew was a no-brainer. With his incredible voice partnered with his honesty in lyric I’m really excited to work alongside Peter and the Strap Originals team to help Andrew reach as many people as possible,” said Tomlinson, discussing his vow to support the release of ‘Waiting For The Rain’.
Additionally, speaking of the encouragement from both Doherty and Tomlinson, Cushin said: “It’s amazing to have someone as established as Louis fighting in my corner. It’s been a pleasure getting to know him on and off the stage and I’m learning a great deal from him and his team. I’m looking forward to what I know will be an enjoyable and hugely beneficial collaboration together.”
Earlier this week, Cushin released ‘Wor Flags’ – the latest single from his forthcoming album. Check it out above.
A song devoted to embracing the now and choosing to escape from everyday troubles, the track arrived on Wednesday (August 2) and is the fifth track to be shared from the LP – following ‘It’s Coming Round Again’, ‘4.5%’, ‘You’ll Be Free’ and ‘Dream For A Moment’.
Previous single, ‘It’s Coming Round Again’ arrived back in June, and featured an intimate music video, which was filmed during Cushin’s time touring across North America with Tomlinson.
Later this year, following the release of ‘Waiting For The Rain’ Cushin is also set to embark on a UK headline tour, including two nights at Newcastle’s prestigious City Hall. Tickets and a full list of tour dates can be found here.
Although he signed to Doherty’s record label back in October 2021, this was far from the first time that the 23-year-old songwriter has received backing from an indie legend. Back in 2020, the rising star also joined forces with Noel Gallagher, and the two released the track ‘Where’s My Family Gone’.

ugh I cannot stop thinking about the rumor of Andrew Cushin asking girls from the audience how old they are and inviting them backstage, the implication that 1) he is selecting girls young enough that he can't tell by looking if they're legal or not and 2) he has intentions that they need to be legal for, like I am very aware this is anything but unusual but Louis has created such a beautiful and respectful culture around his tours that it's a jarring and fucked up reminder of the shitty wider culture and I just want to know if Louis knows someone is treating his army of depraved younger sisters like this because I do not think he's gonna like it- and boy am I praying for that reckoning

“Obviously I was a massive Libertines fan growing up. It’s an honour to me. I really look up to [Doherty] as a songwriter, as a poet, as a creative in general. And I also know that he’s got Andrew’s best interests at heart, which is not something you can always say in these kinds of joint ventures.”
-Louis on working with Peter Doherty of The Libertines for Andrew Cushin’s debut album. (11 October 2023)

Didn't see on your dash, so sharing it🙂🙂
I haven’t gotten out of my inbox yet. 😅😅😅 So, thank you! That’s so cool. And very smart of Louis. I’ve only heard great things about Andrew’s music.

Given this and the AFHF (plus his mention of wanting to do artist management at some point), I think we might be getting an inkling about where Louis wants to take his career. So, so smart.

Oh, I see! My god that’s horrible. This fandom can be so damn hostile and toxic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I still don’t see the point of her sharing this information. Her message remains pretty much the same “Don’t support Louis’ openers because they can be assholes.”. She’s not wrong but this only leads to suspicions about every opener at AFHF. And that’s so unfair.
Also, thanks for the warning, but people in this fandom have pretty good instincts when it comes to bands Louis gives a push. All of these openers will definitely get a moment of peak attention (whether that’s fair or not isn’t up to us) but if they’re not good enough or give odd vibes they’ll get dropped as quickly. I’m reminded of Andrew Cushin and how he learned a lesson or two with Louis’ fanbase after Red Rocks and kissing a girl in the crowd. We’re loyal to a fault, but to Louis first and we won’t let anyone use us.
In reference to this.

I am dying to know your thoughts on the Andrew Cushin thing
Hi!!
Personally, I think Louis has invested his money in Pete Doherty’s indie label, Strap Originals.
The benefit is mutual. Doherty’s label signs mainly young, budding, previously unsigned artists who are not mainstream.
Andrew Cushin’s touring with Louis exposes him and his label to a huge, loyal, excitable fanbase. Andrew understands that Louis’ fans can catapult him from an unknown to millions of streams in a short period of time.
Louis benefits from the connection to Pete, The Libertines, and the inner workings of the UK alt music business. Louis’ music isn’t played on UK or USA radio, and his fanbase has been limited to 1D fans. Louis’ music isn’t widely reviewed. Most of the GP still think of Louis as an aging boybander singing WMYB and Night Changes to teenage girls. Despite fronting an “alt music” festival, Louis has had limited success in expanding his listener demographics or changing the perception of his image.
Louis has the music, the personality, the festival, the numbers, the social media clout. What he doesn’t have is the legitimacy.
Just like in 1D, Louis realizes what he’s up against (the entire pop music industry, basically) and the walls put up to keep him out.
Instead of trying to compete with Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor, Ed, Harry etc., Louis has to find other ways. The Triple Strings imprint with Syco was an early attempt to do behind-the-scenes A&R work, but it didn’t work out. I also think Louis enjoys the work of finding and developing other artists.
I don’t think this partnership is a permanent alliance, but it’s a first step.

“He has been absolutely amazing; we have so much love, respect and gratitude for everything he has done for me and my team. He has been so supportive and given me advice and it has been a real breath of fresh air to have somebody like that in my corner. Louis has been involved with the album too and it is such a please and privilege that he has done that for us.”
