FOR SALE | Official Trailer, Images & Poster
Mason McGinness has always been good at two things: selling himself, and finding ways to cheat people into buying when they shouldn’t. One day, his brazen swindling catches up with him and he finds himself fired from his job and kicked to the curb by his ex-girlfriend. Mason finds a small realty company that needs someone to sell a piece of property that is considered “unsellable.”

The catch? It is the infamous Scarlett Clay house -- a haunted house where anyone who inhabits it ends up dead. Now, with the help of a quirky psychic, Mason must find his humanity to get his life back... or die trying.

Absolutely BAFFLED by how ignored Boy Kills World seems to be. It's the most engaging film I've seen this year, I absolutely loved it.
But there's been no marketing for it (I didn't see a trailer for it until the day before it came out) and the reviews are more mixed-leaning-to-positive. I know that I'm not always going to agree with general consensus but I'm honestly wondering if everyone else saw a different movie than me.
Anyways, even if I'm an outlier, even if you don't like Boy Kills World as much as I did, I still think everyone should see it because there's a chance you'll like it as much as I did.

FOR SALE - Review
DISTRIBUTOR: Gravitas Ventures
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: Mason McGinness has two talents: hyping himself and tricking people into buying unnecessary items. However, his brazen swindles eventually catch up to him, leading to his dismissal from his job and his girlfriend's abandonment. Down on his luck, Mason finds a small realty company needing someone to sell an "unsellable" property, the notorious Scarlett Clay house. This haunted abode has a history of occupants meeting grim ends. With the help of an eccentric psychic, Mason embarks on a quest to get his life back on track by selling this house—or perishing in the attempt.
REVIEW: In an admirable display of multitasking on a shoestring budget, filmmaker Christopher Schrack skillfully handles multiple roles in the production of this independent film.
The narrative revolves around a lowly salesman who, having been fired from his job due to pushing his luck, takes on an undesirable job in an active haunted house with the intention of getting his life back on track. Despite the seemingly too-good-to-be-true nature of the job, he moves into the house out of desperation. The protagonist, Mason, exudes a character similar to a hybrid of Don Knotts and Jim Carrey's character in "Liar, Liar." The character could have easily become clichéd but is elevated through clever dialogue and captivating performance. The plot starts off as a dark comedy and takes a darker turn in the third act. Mason's relationship with the medium is brief but creates an entertaining team-up dynamic. Unfortunately, their reunion at the end feels anticlimactic and lacks the intrigue present in earlier parts of the film.
This independent film, set in an intriguing location, offers limited production values and a standard utilitarian filmmaking style. Practical effects are utilized without much finesse. The execution is reminiscent of classic black-and-white comedy duo films. While the visuals are pleasing, they lack the intended impact needed to generate scares. Functional costumes, likely provided by the actors themselves, contribute to the film's overall aesthetic. Patrick William Meagher's score combines upbeat, jazzy movements that enhance the lighthearted moments and Mason's personality, along with more atmospheric movements that, while a bit clichéd, maintain a lighter tone throughout the film.
In the film, Andrew Roth delivers an energetic performance as Mason, a likable con artist brought to life with comedic flair. Roth's performance carries the weight of the film, providing a solid foundation for its narrative. Co-star Corinne Britti portrays a memorable character as the medium, although the film could have benefited from more screen time. The duo shares many memorable moments together. Steve Montague gives a notable performance as the real estate firm owner Mr. Bendt, embodying a veteran con man with a seasoned presence.
Filmmaker Christopher Schrack and leading man Andrew Roth collaborate effectively to create a compelling movie experience in FOR SALE. The film's low budget is not immediately apparent, as the team manages to achieve a lot with limited resources. With a slightly larger budget, it's intriguing to contemplate what they might have accomplished. FOR SALE is a memorable and enjoyable film, leaving this viewer eager to see Schrack's next project.

Tiny Review: Boy Kills World 2023. Popcorn Raid-like violence.
Tumblr media
John Wick meets The Raid, with an actor who appeared in both.
And the actor who played Pennywise in IT.
I liked they did two twists. One obvious and one not.
