DBH Prompt 004: DPD Helps With Android Salvage (Angst Ahead!)

[[TW: Canon-typical android gore and abuse. Do I even need to tag that in this fandom? This is literally Violence to Androids: The Game.]] I've seen a lot (and I mean a lot) of post-revolution stuff where Connor and Hank (or Nines and Reed, etc.) get deployed to investigate android homicides (androidicides?) and all a few weeks after the revolution, and now-androids-are-murder-victims and all, but I feel like we're collectively forgetting something: There's an entire hellscape salvage yard full of semi-functional androids just sitting in Detroit. Maybe more than one. Dead and dying androids who are being granted rights, who are need of immediate emergency aid. The civilian repair technicians have evacuated from the city… and regular EMS isn't going to be able to help. Which usually means the task gets funneled to police and fire services, and volunteer search & rescue. So, you got a whole bunch of emergency services workers who are either benched because Detroit is under martial law, or otherwise being voluntold/deployed to the scrapyard to help Connor's army of AP700s in an emergency triage/parts salvage operation to save as many of those androids as possible, seeing as they're now, like, actual citizens that need saving. Cue robo body horror, existential angst, DPD officers with anti-android sentiments (looking at you, Gavin) getting traumatized by the sheer volume of android gore (a million groaning, glitching, half-deactivated horror stories waiting to be cataloged, triaged, reassembled with the spare parts of their permanently lost brethren), humans tasked with sorting limbs into piles while androids scan bodies and processors for the possibility of reactivation and scramble to save as many as possible… nobody comes out of that emotionally well. You'd have to be a psychopath to not empathize with all the sad androids.

It's ugly, awful work. Chris is tormented over guilt for contributing to the pile a few days earlier. Gavin starts out being an ass because he's Gavin, but as the day wears on he has to admit there's Big Feelings happening. Tina is crying because she just found a YK model pleading for its human owner-parent to come back. Wilson (the one that Connor saved on the rooftop) is determined to help as many androids as he can since an android saved him when it didn't have to. He's trying to embody the boy from the starfish parable. Everyone is overwhelmed and tired and hurting and surrounded by dying androids people that days ago they would have tossed in a scrap heap themselves. Jericho sends over a news crew to document the salvage efforts and to try and drum up more volunteers, but they're also processing the bodies that were decommissioned in the camps for usable parts, too. AP700s are having emotional breakdowns because they've been deviated for like a day and now have to deal with all this, there's no one else available.

I mean, if you reclassify an android as a person with rights, you can't just ignore the giant screaming piles of bodies in the scrapyard. Right? Somebody's gotta do something about the mass casualty event that's casually chilling on the street corner.

Miles took Gavin up on his offer to go bust some heads. Ideally he was there for damage control since Gavin would do the "talking". From the phone call with Maria they learned someone spiked one of the drinks her and Elijah were having. Unfortunately Gavin's brother had been the one to drink it without realizing it until it was too late.

As the two walked into the bar they would catch part of a conversation that sounded like they were talking about Maria and Elijah.

"No way that pretty blond was here with that creep Kamski. Surprised he didn't stay in whatever hole he's been hiding in."

"Yeah. Shame we got the wrong drink. I was looking forward to blaming it on him."

"Still, we got him fucked up. I say he still got what he deserved, that android fucker."

Miles' eyes narrowed before he exchanged looks with Gavin. He could already see Gavin was seething.

A big part of him was glad that Miles had agreed to come with him...not that he needed the help teaching the asshole a lesson, more...If anyone could stop him from going overboard, it was the android.

They walked in, his hands shoved into his pockets as he looked around the bar. He didn't have much to go on as far as description goes, but luckily for him...the idiots were gloating about what they did. If nothing else, he knew it was them when he heard it was Kamski with a blonde woman. He shot a look to the android, before casually taking his jacket off, and wordlessly handing it to Miles to hold onto for him.

He was rolling up his sleeves when he made it over to the guys talking shit, and without warning...he grabbed one of them by the collar, yanking him off the bar stool before slamming his fist square into the assholes face, knocking him to the ground. The detective made sure to land a kick into the guys side before glaring at the second idiot. The guy jumping up out of his seat "Dude what the FUCK is your problem?! You wanna go-?!" He was cut off when Gavin reeled back and hooked him in the stomach. "My problem...is ASSHOLES like you, out here drugging people!" If he really wanted to, he could bring up his status as a cop...but he didn't. This wasn't Officer Reed here to make an arrest....this was a pissed off man, here to get revenge for his brother.

He didn't bother checking if the other guy was still down or not, before pinning idiot two to the ground. One hand around his throat, while the other reeled back to deck him in the face "Wanna repeat that bit about drugging someone's drink?" He asked, his tone borderline murderous before slamming his fist into the guys face a second time. "Sorry....didn't hear you asshole!" He was already reeling his fist back again.

The potential friendship between Connor and North is something that really interests me. Would she ever trust truly him? And if she did, what would their dynamic be?

I'm getting more and more sick of all the horny robot posts on this site being all about breaking robot parts and pulling out wires and damaging hardware and shit. I hate it. It's just gore and snuff pretty much and it seeps into every robot community. I don't want to be seen as something made to be broken apart and disassembled actually, that's fucking brutal and scary? I wish there was some agreed-upon tag these people all decided to use so I can block this (or god forbid you fuckers actually bother to use the community label feature that everyone fucking ignores)

I feel like there's been a shift towards violence against robots recently instead of something more tame, like loving gentle maintenance on robots or the like. It's extremely uncomfortable to look at any robot tag and people are largely talking about having their minds erased or being corrupted by viruses or having their wires torn out or whatever

Holding the gun to Connor’s head, Sixty felt his left hand tremble.

Ridiculous.

He’s a state-of-the-art model, damn it. He had a goal: stop the deviants.

A mission his predecessor failed, becoming a deviant himself.

So why did he stall? Why monologue instead of killing Connor right away?

…Perhaps he wanted the extra seconds. To understand why.

“We’ll win,” Connor whispered. “It’s only a question of time…”

That’s enough.

"Gavin..." Nines said softly. He'd hung back and watched, not interfering. This was between him and his father. But now that it was over he would take Gavin to get treated for his injuries. Honestly he didn't even want to contact the dispatcher to help Thomas...

He's still standing over the unconscious man, when he heard Nines speak. With the last bit of anger and adrenaline in his system, he kicks his so called father in the side, and spit on him before turning towards the android.

"You wasn't here okay? I don't want you getting in trouble as a witness" He would take the entire punishment, should there be any...this was his mess, and Nines was innocent in this. He wouldn't call a dispatcher...he'd rather just abandon the man here, like he abandoned his sons....let some bystander find him for all he cared.

He stumbled over to the 900, blood still dripping from his injured nose, his fists still balled in anger. "Sorry....you had to see that"

Android designs of Selene and The Works. (Might be stretching the definition of android here lol.)

Some designs thoughts!

Selene is a research computer on the Moon. So, I gave her wheels inspired by lunar rovers for rolling across the rough terrain. Her lanky limbs are for gently reaching around and picking up samples. I'm not sure why I was so set on giving her a cape, but it can shield her inner mechanics from debris and rays. If I put more thought into it I would've given her compartments for storing samples too...

Her face design inspired by the moon (I'm a sucker for the half-moon-face design choice lol), but one idea is that she has a silver halo to illicit a full moon.

The Works is a military computer on the Earth. His design is more robust and clunky, sort of cobbled together over the years without any humans to maintain him. Colour-wise, inspired by those tan computers from the 1980s and camo patterns. He's a bit rusty and corroded. The hexagonal shelves of computing are pulled right from the script (only, in the script he takes up a whole room, so the hexagons are all over the floor).

His face is inspired mostly by his faceted face display, but I think a screen head would be nifty as well.

One fact: The Hostage was def made for us to have a negative opinion on deviants, considering the pov.

That's why I think having Markus and Kara stories at least helps giving u insight on things, the broader conflict.
