Author's note: It's epistolary, sorry. You wouldn't recognise me now, my love. The man I am today bears little resemblance to the boy you knew.

I've done terrible things, told awful lies, granted carriage to an evil I had no business touching. I have been to the devil's country, dear one, and there's no coming back once you've stepped inside. I try to resist, but I fail. Oh, how I fail.

The irony is, I meant to do good, but I'm not good enough or strong enough to grasp what I've brought back.

And the tighter I grasp, the faster I lose control of it.

“I saw the way you watched her,” Erwin suddenly spoke up, his gaze focused elsewhere out the carriage window as he spoke.

Feigning ignorance, Levi huffed. “Watched who?”

“Don’t play dumb, Levi. You’re not so good at that as you are dealing out sarcasm.”

“I wasn’t watching Y/N any sort of way.” Levi defended, having the gall to even look offended.

“Ah, but I didn’t say her name, did I? I could have been referring to the woman standing in the lobby when we left.”

Erwin chuckled, briefly meeting his eye before Levi quickly looked away with a scowl.

As I have decided to participate in the 2025 drabble challenge, hosted by @thedrabblecollective, I have put together a series of drabbles following the given prompts. Day two . . . ‘Faceless,’ as a 𝑆𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑎𝑦 × 𝑅𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑟 .

“𝔓ardon?” 

“The little wings under your ears,” you say, gesturing with a lazy wiggle, “they’re really cute.”

Your smile follows——oh, may the Harmony have mercy, that smile——and he’s certain his heart has grown wings of its own and taken flight straight out of his chest.

“Your face is beet-red. . . are you dying?”

He startles——a sinner caught mid-prayer. The wings you’d praised flutter, rising to shield his face, though they do a poor job of it.

You cock your head, watching the once-mighty head of the Oak Family reduced to a faceless wreck of blush and awe. All. . . over a compliment.

Day 2 - Faceless

There was a shadow where James should be.

A floating faceless darkness looking back at him from the mirror, wearing his clothes. He lifted his hand and his sleeve moved, a night sky floating in front of him where his hand should be.

He tried changing back, but he couldn't, the shadow that was him taunting from the mirror.

He screamed so loud the mirror shattered, and him with it.

"Jamie, WAKE UP!"

Matthew's face was looking at him from the darkness.

A dream. A presage?

He clung to Matthew and held on to him until the shadows were gone.

Drabble challenge 2025 : Day 1 - Carriage

A/N: My first day on the drabble challenge. For this, I've decided to try and challenge myself to create one cohesive story. Specifically, an Aramir vampire au story (I decided before I realised 'tropical' was a prompt). Hope you enjoy my attempt and, by the end of the month, my full story. Thanks so much to @thedrabblecollective for hosting!

Faramir had taken it upon himself to wait for the lords to arrive. A servant could have done it - but no disrespect would be seen by him waiting. Perhaps there was a little part of Denethor that was proud of his younger son’s diplomacy (Faramir hoped).

Although there was a hint of suspicion; as though Denethor thought his son may switch allegiance. But no harsh words were exchanged, the only disagreement in subtext. So Boromir had forced a suitable cloak onto his brother - bidding him not to stay needlessly outside. And then, almost silently in the darkness, the carriage arrived.

Levi x ScoutOfficer!Reader

Levi hated these things. Hated the obligation to mingle with nobles, the uncomfortable clothes, the pointless speeches. He’d just managed to sneak outside when your carriage arrived.

He stepped quickly to your door and offered his hand to help you down, though you both knew you didn't need it.

"Erwin dragged you into this fundraiser too?" He sounded nonchalant, but his gaze snagged and stuck on the curve of your gowned waist.

"I volunteered, actually. Thought you could use the company."

He smiled so briefly you might've imagined it. "You'll regret that soon enough."

"Then make sure I don't, Captain."

Drabble Challenge May 1st - Carriage

Description: Levi escorts Scout!Reader off a carriage. This takes place sometime in Season 3 before Armin and Jean get kidnapped and the squad is just testing out whether the plan will work. None of them are wearing Scout uniform because they're trying to be discrete. Implied that reader is around the same age as Levi and has known him for a long time, as well as already being in a relationship before the contents of this text.

Word Count: 100 words (short version), 352 words (long version)

A/N: This is one of my first times writing proper fanfiction, hope it's okay :)

100 words:

Levi holds out a hand for you as he exits the horse-drawn “carriage” the Levi Squad, along with you, travelled on. In reality, it was nothing more than a furnished wagon with a large white cloth draped over it, but one could dream.

With a smile, you take his hand as you step off the carriage, the wagon shaking slightly as you removed your weight from it. Levi returns your smile as you walk alongside him, holding his hand in yours. 

It was so nice to be able to relax, away from the missions, and just walk next to Levi.

Long ver:

As you turn to kiss him on the forehead for helping you off, the two of you hear a loud crash coming from the general direction of the carriage. Levi turns, wary of any possible danger, brushing aside his cloak to reveal his ODM gear, his body tensed and ready to spring, only to see… Eren laughing at Jean, who was lying in a disheveled mess in a puddle on the ground, his brown wig drenched in dirty water.

“Stupid brats,” Levi huffed, pulling his cloak closer to him and concealing his ODM gear, turning towards you and offering his hand to you. 

Smirking at his comment, you turn your eyes to Levi.

“Cold?” You asked, observing the way Levi shrunk into a smaller figure under his dark grey cloak, looking at him with an expression of mild concern.

“No.” He replied, the look on his face a direct juxtaposition to his words. Levi exhaled deeply as he shuffled closer to you, leaning his head against your shoulder for your warmth.

You smiled as he did so, resting your head on top of his. “You know, you don’t need to tell me. I can tell you’re cold.”

As Levi walked next to you, you gently eased his head off your shoulder with your palm for a short while and took off your dark blue cloak, wrapping it around his smaller frame and making sure to keep it secure on his shoulders so it wouldn’t touch the ground as he walked.

“Thank you,” Levi said, offering you a rare smile as he looked up at you from the comfort of your shoulder.

The late afternoon sunbeams temper the harsh planes of his face; proud cheekbones, nose, and jaw mellowed, softer, in the light. A faint breeze drifts in, tousling the fine silver strands of his hair. You're busy committing every detail to memory—until a low, amused chuckle snaps you out of your reverie.

"Unless you're satisfied admiring me from afar," he teases, "you should come have a closer look, kitten."

It was a long time before Josefine could see herself in mirrors. Now that they were no longer silver-backed, vampires could now be treated to their reflections. Josefine avoided them for a long time, unsure of how to react. Since her turning, she felt faceless, losing her defining features and recognition before being replaced with endless teeth. That had been the star of some of her nightmares. Looking at her reflection could probably cure the nightmares, but she didn’t want to inspire another set. After all, she didn’t want to see the face of the young girl she once was.

Drabble Challenge Day 1: Carriage ft. Lucifer

"How long are you going to be angry?"

You keep your gaze out of the carriage window, watching the Devildom landscape pass by you, pointedly ignoring him. Lucifer sighs, rubbing the bridge of his nose as he wills the incoming headache away. "I already apologised."

"I do not accept it."

"It was an honest mistake." He tried to reach out to grab your hand, but you slapped his gloved one away before they could come in contact.

"You still forgot."

He reached out again and cupped your face in his warm palms, you fought the urge to lean into them.

“I thought marriage would feel…different,” you told him.

“It is just a slip of paper,” Viktor replied, plainly. “Now we may live in the same house and occupy the same bed without arousing suspicion.”

You chuckled softly. “That did raise many eyebrows in the neighborhood. But your roommate advert never excluded women, after all.

Day 1: Carriage

Levi remembers his mother’s stories. Tales of knights and ladies, the hero winning the day and the damsel in distress. Gleaming castles, shining carriages, tall castles. Of good winning over evil.

His mother is now gone, and those stories are fading - as dim and dirty as the Neo Tokyo streets. Levi had once wanted to be the hero of those stories, but life in this city has taught him there are no heroes, or good versus evil - just those trying to survive. 

There are no heroes in Neo Tokyo. Only the strong and the weak.

And Levi was the strongest.

"My darling." Holding out a hand, Astarion can't help but smile as you try to step out of the carriage. That awkward moment when you're trying to take a step that's too big to be comfortable, while maintaining your dignity. Not too long ago he would've let out a cruel laugh at whichever person he saw doing this.

But now... something has changed. Because it's you? Probably just because it's you. How you light up his world like he's not experienced in hundreds of years. Or maybe, it's that you've let him feel like he can be happy without hurting.

The nights were always the worst—when silence screamed and sleep refused to come. High or not, it didn’t matter. The ache stayed. So he grabbed his guitar, fingers drifting over worn strings, letting the sound pull him under. No plan. Just muscle memory and regret. One of those nights, lost in the noise he made to quiet everything else, the words came. Raw and unfiltered. Another song she’d never hear.

Yet even if he couldn’t understand this new, faceless emotion, he sought to pursue it. For better or worse, he’d made a vow to himself; he would live with no regrets. For them; for himself.

It clouded his mind every night he attempted to close his eyes, it followed his every footstep like an annoying fly buzzing around his ear—It pissed him off.

“It’s a busy day” her advisor says as she stares out the window at the fields of lavender they pass by, her thoughts far away from her duties, focused instead on how peaceful it’ll be to walk through them. “You have a meeting with the council, then….”

The carriage comes to a stop after a while, the door opening. “Your Highness” knight Levi’s hand is extended for her to take while she steps out of the carriage, and she does before walking next to her advisor, oblivious to the way the knight’s hand flexes before he starts walking behind them.
