Day 51: Project Spotlight - Turul Moldovei! Tour of Moldova!

Back in winter 2014-15, months before Chris & I would move to Moldova, we read about a group of Moldovan & Peace Corps Volunteers who walked across Moldova in 2013. We started talking then about really wanting to do a walking tour during our service. Thankfully, now, two and a half years later, we can say we’ve done two!

Israel was another Health Education Volunteer who has had a profound positive impact on my service. In this case, it was her who approached us our first winter about reviving Turul Moldovei. Thanks to her leadership, we organized and completed Turul Moldovei 2016! I was humbled to re-connect with peers of my cohort who participated in that walk and we new volunteers in order to do Turul Moldovei 2017, as shown in the video above and on our blog here. Both years, we partnered with Novateca in our planning process.

The tour originated as a creative way to mark Peace Corps Moldova’s 20th anniversary. 2018 is its 25th - I bet I’ll delight in following another group’s adventures next year!

My grandfather Semion Gore - tall, smart and handsome man. Everybody loved him. With him I was having the most of fun times, learned a lot from “Bîtu Senya”. We would talk on a subject matter only, when there was a conversation, and when we wouldn’t talk it would be for hours, while he would teach me in silence how to make wine, about good manners, about accuracy and professionalism, he said I was his favorite grand kid.
