I got my May BOTM box and I already devoured The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I can almost swear this is a true story! It felt so real, I better see this as a movie. Between this one and Daisy and the Six, I’m just amazed at this author’s work. Next up, a new to me author. This cover calls to me. So I hope I’m just as amazed with the Boyfriend Project. I’m really patting myself on the back for my choices this month. @way2read and I hosted our first indoor bookclub meeting this year. Our reading selection was Lessons in Chemistry by @bonnie_garmus_author. We had a GREAT time eating and discussing the myriad of themes tackled in the book. I found this book thought provoking and I felt reenergized especially given the current climate pertaining to women’s rights and issues in the workplace. I kept having to remind myself that the time period was 50’s/60’s because I was getting worked up. What a testament to the fact that many women share very similar workplace experiences. Our group really enjoyed this book and was excited to learn Lessons in Chemistry will debut on Apple TV+ next month (March 2023). I highly recommend this book to women who root for all trailblazing women in their respective fields. Keep supporting the sisterhood and appreciate the science in food. January 2023, Week 1 ✅. I started in Nigeria 🇳🇬 but now I’m back in Texas. ✈️ 19 Hours on a plane gave me plenty of time to start my year with a bang! First 📖of 2023 was PERSONAL (St Louis Cyclones book 3) by Alexandria House. She’s one of my favorite authors and I started 2022 with her book Flagrant. I know I’m always in for a treat with her stories. 2nd read was Burn for You by J.T Geissinger. Another favorite and I plan to complete this series this month. Also, a series my real life bookclub, @lustylunchers began in December 2022. 3rd read was Demon’s Dream by Elle Kayson, a new to me author. But @kenyagoreebell had recommended this book no less than 5 times so I made sure to download it. Definitely worth the hype. I couldn’t put it down. For my other bookclub, @_cocktailsandconversations_ chose Masked Intent by Kim Greer. A very well developed plot and characters in that story and I can’t wait to discuss on Saturday. 1 ebook 2 audiobooks 1 paperback (though I also have the audio and ebook of Personal 😜) How was your first week reading? The month of December was a bit heavy for me as we has to go to Nigeria 🇳🇬 for my father in law’s funeral. I didn’t get to celebrate my birthday month as we quickly planned for our trip. But I’m thankful that his celebration of life was just that, a celebration! I did read a lot on the plane, airport layover and down time as spent over 19 hours in the air. I made a concerted effort to read/listened to holiday stories and I was able to enjoy 11 stories. Best news is that I did get a ticket to Book Bonanza 2023, so yay!!!!! I’m thankful to the friends I’ve made this year and I hope to explore and discover more stories that grip my heart in 2023. 💎NOVEMBER 2022 MONTHLY WRAP UP 💎 I don’t know what it was about this month, but I really enjoyed everything I read. Well, almost everything. The Token Black Girl was problematic to me so that one is a Do Not Recommend for me. I am happy that Authors of Color are getting a tad more respect than in years past, but there is more work to be done. I hope to continue to diversify my reading palate and grow as a reader/listener. To that end, I plan to go to The Rom Con on August 18 - 19, 2023 in Anaheim, California. It’s billed as “The Rom Con is a romance book convention celebrating diversity in romance; those who write it and those who read it!” Have you heard of this book convention? 👀 Look 👀 10 Months are gone and 2022 is almost at an end. I wanted to read as many spook-tacular books this month. I only read 5 but that’s cool with me. 🚨My Reading Plan: 10 audio books and 3 ebooks. 📍LGBT read: I listened to Ground Zero by Aimee Nicole Walker (@aimeenicolewalker) and it is a series that I will definitely be continuing. It reminded me of a beloved series, Cut & Run by Abigail Roux. I can’t wait to read more of Locke & Key. 📍Met my goal of 5 books by BiPOC authors. In fact, for the first time in over a decade, most of my reads were featured people of color. Nice 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 📍Brown Nipple Challenge: I listened to and really enjoyed Takeover by Evelyn Sola. I’m not even going to lie, after the first couple of chapters, I considered tapping out but my goodness, it ended up being a 4-star read! This is exactly why I don’t DNF books. I got got really interesting about 20% and didn’t slow down. I’m glad I follow @justavoraciousreader because she rated it high so it gave me the confidence to keep going. One of my favorite BNC reads. 📍My Bookclub read ✅: 💠 @lustylunchers: Black Tangled Heart by Samantha Young (revenge romance) and it was a hit for our bookclub meeting. September 2022 wasn’t my best reading month as all the traveling took a toll. However, this is one of few months where I enjoyed all nine books that I read. I ended the month with Colleen Hoover’s book and I’m not reading anything else until tomorrow. I think I need to recharge by watching some television. Meet kick ass heroine Saffron in The Heir. It’s her birthday and she just wants to have a little fun. Who knew a night out at the bar would turn into so much…well, You will need to read it to find out. Just know that you should have The King on hand after that Cliffhanger! I came in knowing this was a prequel but I didn’t know it would enjoy it so much. Good writing, well done sex scenes and lots of intrigue.
