Review: The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas
The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas is a gothic horror delight. Set in the time after the Mexican war for independence, we follow Beatriz as she moves into in her new husband’s pulque-producing hacienda. She is the second wife of the Rodolfo, who’s previous wife died under mysterious circumstances. Everyone seems to have a different story about how his first wife died. The war was hard on Beatriz and…

👀 Look 👀 10 Months are gone and 2022 is almost at an end. I wanted to read as many spook-tacular books this month. I only read 5 but that’s cool with me. 🚨My Reading Plan: 10 audio books and 3 ebooks. 📍LGBT read: I listened to Ground Zero by Aimee Nicole Walker (@aimeenicolewalker) and it is a series that I will definitely be continuing. It reminded me of a beloved series, Cut & Run by Abigail Roux. I can’t wait to read more of Locke & Key. 📍Met my goal of 5 books by BiPOC authors. In fact, for the first time in over a decade, most of my reads were featured people of color. Nice 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 📍Brown Nipple Challenge: I listened to and really enjoyed Takeover by Evelyn Sola. I’m not even going to lie, after the first couple of chapters, I considered tapping out but my goodness, it ended up being a 4-star read! This is exactly why I don’t DNF books. I got got really interesting about 20% and didn’t slow down. I’m glad I follow @justavoraciousreader because she rated it high so it gave me the confidence to keep going. One of my favorite BNC reads. 📍My Bookclub read ✅: 💠 @lustylunchers: Black Tangled Heart by Samantha Young (revenge romance) and it was a hit for our bookclub meeting. Always a fun lunch date. ✌🏾Peace out October 2022🤛🏾 😘 #bookclub #october2022wrapup #thechaiseandloungeblog #monthlyreads #octoberwrapup #bookstagram #instablogger #readersofinstagram #bibliophile #bloggersofinstagram #booksofinstagram #weneedmorediversebooks #diverseromance #diversebooks #anezichireads https://www.instagram.com/p/CkclJVFA2nJ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

RESENHA "Our lack of power and our oppression are one and the same". My third book for #Contemporaryathon Round 6 is With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo. It works for the prompts - Green on the cover, Diverse contemporary, Illustrated cover, and Backlist contemporary. I have seen many booktubers and bookstagrammers rave about it but the people whose reviews had me reaching for the book were Jananie - @thisstoryaintover , Kayla - @booksandlala and Chelsea - @chelseadollingreads I read The Poet X by the same author recently and loved it. The audiobook was narrated by the author and it was excellent. When I found out that Elizabeth Acevedo had also narrated the audiobook for this book, I knew I would want to listen to it, and so far am loving it. . . . . #preetisunaina #bookworm #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booklover #lovereading #instareads #bookcommunity #instabook #igreads #readersofinstagram #bibliophile #readingchallenge #tbr #ElizabethAcevedo #WithTheFireOnHigh #ContemporaryathonRound6 #WeNeedMoreDiverseBooks #BookCoverLove #Storytel #authornarrated #audiobook #favouritecover https://www.instagram.com/p/B8lD00TJJ8W/?igshid=riqdyp6eadkh

I’m still drooling from my writing retreat @kimbiliofiction in Taos, New Mexico. The retreat was uplifting, empowering, healing, and I learned so much about writing and craft. I left the residency feeling like I’m on the right track with my novel in progress. I can see the finish line! Well, at least the first-draft-finish-line, which will be in December 2019. Oh, the retreat was intellectually intense as well. Everyday we had a writing workshop, then a craft workshop, and then a reading. I took naps between each session to give my brain some rest, and adjust to the time difference. (I went from Culoz to Lyon to Pais to London to New York City. I arrived in New York City at 11:00pm, I washed my clothes, packed, drank wine with my friend Lara, slept for two hours and woke up at 6:00am to catch a 9:00am flight to Santa Fe.) First photo: #zzpacker who is gracious, wickedly smart, and she can recall everything you said. Second photo: My workshop cohort. Lots of great writers come down the publishing tube. Third photo: The 2019 Fellows. Wow, they are funny. #hella smart, giving, and they will make your soul smile. Fourth photo: All the writing instructors: David Haynes, (I love that one moment he’d be all regular and then the next moment he’d break out with the deepest thing you’ve ever heard) @ravihoward , ZZ Packer, @reeamilcarscott (seriously enjoyed his craft talk) Asali Solomon, and the super talented and sweet coordinator Diana. Fifth Picture: Ravi Howard and moi! He was the workshop instructor for my novel submission. He’s humble, undercover funny, and gave me great feedback and suggestions. The purpose
There would be a lot of benefit to expanding the diversity in children's literature. When discussing the book George and how it is one of the first books about transgender. Then, discussing Mockingbird and the diversity it has by Caitlin being on the spectrum. Including all of the other books on diversity presented in this tumblr. Authors are including diversity in children's literature in the aspects of cultures, religions, and ethnic backgrounds. However, that does not generally make children's literature diverse as a whole. The book industry needs to continue to expand the diversity within children's literature. While also making diverse children’s books easily accessible. We need more books about those touchy topics of transgender, homosexuality, immigration, and disabilities. Diverse books are important so children who are reading them can grow up and see themselves within these stories. Also, it is important to use diversity in children's literature  in order to inform and educate the readers of how diverse our world is. When discussing diversity we also need accurate representations. So many authors throw in character in their books of different races to make the book diverse. However, diversity is so much more than just meeting the requirements. Diverse children’s literature requires thought out, creative, and accurate representations to be successful.
For the books in which are touching on immigration, this is a real issue and currently at a rise in our country. I work at a school full of students from these third world countries who are coming to America for a better life. Children who sometimes fear coming to school because they know what the media portrays on immigration. The media is not always accurate which is why we need accurate representations within books. Diverse books on immigration and refugees are needed to not only be that mirror but a window to these children as well. These children have questions that are tough to be answered, but literature on these particular topic matters can help. This also gives the opportunity for students to have mirrors that reflects their lives or a window that represents someone else’s experiences.
Diversity is important within children's literature but intersectionality is even more important. Intersectionality is overlapping of interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage. An easier way to think of the term is children’s literature containing diversity within diversity. A person is never just one thing and we need more books in regards to intersectionality. So, a children’s book about an African American but more specifically an African American woman. Another example would be an African American male being on the Autism Spectrum or any sort of disability.

Review: Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim (read by Emily Woo Zeller)
I did not mean to start another series. But, I reached the top of the waiting list at my local library as I was finishing The Starless Sea and I don’t always remember what something is or why I put myself on the wait-list when it comes time to check things out. So, here we are. Shiori’anma is a princess, the only princess, in the kingdom of Kiata and she does not want to get married. She wants…

Bye Bye 2021 🎉 December is my birthday month so it is my favorite time of the year. 🚨For the first time in 6 years, I finished the 50 States challenge. I read 51 if you include DC. I’m very proud of myself ❤️ 📍Met my goal of 5 books like BiPOC authors but I think I can do better next year. 📍Brown Nipple Challenge: I read every pick except the October selection of Sweaty Pants by Danielle Allen. I’ll add it to my January TBR. ✌🏾Peace out December🤛🏾 😘 #decemberreads #december2021wrapup #thechaiseandloungeblog #monthlyreads #decemberreads #decemberwrapup #bookstagram #instablogger #readersofinstagram #bibliophile #bloggersofinstagram #booksofinstagram #weneedmorediversebooks #diverseromance #diversebooks #anezichireads https://www.instagram.com/p/CYNcS9PLJLl/?utm_medium=tumblr

#toalltheboysivelovedbefore #tatbilb #paratodososgarotosquejáamei #jennyhan #netflix #romcom #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #bookaddict #bookish #bookshelves #bookworm #instabook #instalivros #instareads #ireadya #ya #yalit #weneedmorediversebooks #bookreview #book #kindle #kindlebooks #bookblogger #leitura #resenhaliteraria #resenhadelivro #leiadiversidade (em Federal District) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bnzcw33l3h-/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ecl618kaylox
