So I had some unexplained eye pain on Monday and am on eye drops, but because I also had to work I have not been resting my eyes enough. This definitely means I have not been writing, watching my shows, or playing Atelier (and I was finally getting somewhere in Lulua again ;_; )

Instead, I watched a bunch of Youtube channels. And by ‘watch’ I mean ‘mostly listen to or watched with my good eye while I tried to keep from blinking my medication out of my bad eye’. But some of them are really interesting so here’s a list for any gentle readers who need some things to watch:

Baumgartner Restoration: Talks a lot about the materials, his experience, and processes of fine art conservation. Super soothing voice, lots of background noises like scraping and brushing, I don’t know or care what ASMR is but apparently this is similar. A godsend for when I wasn’t feeling good this week.

Steve Shives: I mostly watch his Star Trek stuff so far, because there’s soooo much to get through. Has both thoughts on the shows and response videos. A bit acerbic and definitely opinionated but he’s right about so much of it.

Guga Foods: Cooking and grilling, and preparation experiments. A lot of meat. Sooooo much meat. I have never heard the word “Wagyu” used so many times in my life. Fascinating though. Also has the channel Sous Vide Everything which has more variety of items and cuts, but sous vide looks so disgusting, it may turn your stomach even if you are okay with the weird meats. Keep an eye out for Leo and enjoy him; he does the best descriptions of the food they’re tasting, hands down.

Bob Ross: That’s right, entire seasons of The Joy of Painting! Watch from season one to learn the techniques and discover how freeing this method of oil painting is- and how dark some of his scenarios explaining the buildings in the pictures are.

Anti-Chef: More cooking and kitchen experiments. Has a “Jamie and Julia” feature where he does recipes from Julia Childs’ cookbooks. Does not hesitate from showing his failures which is nice, but his chaotic kitchen going sometimes makes me anxious and I want to get in there with a dish cloth. I guess French cookery is not conducive to clean-as-you-go? 

Tasting History with Max Miller: Recipes and history in the same video! He’s not a pro chef or a pro historian, but he’s a great presenter and learning all the time. Keep an eye out for the Pokemon in the background of each video; they always match the theme somehow.

Chef James Makinson: Has both his own cooking videos and reaction videos to other chefs. One of the now-many chefs doing Uncle Roger reactions, but I like Makinson a lot because he’s very gentle in tone and in his responses, and includes great tips for doing things cost-effectively and with home tools.

Made With Lau: A Chinese restaurant chef sharing his recipes, and his son preserving them for the future, with sit-down dinner Q&As. I want to make my own spring rolls so bad now, and with their tips, I could probably do it.

Yes, I watched a lot of cooking lately. And I need to rest my eye soon, so also check out these channels, among others: TwoSetViolin, Bernadette Banner, Morgan Donner, Abby Cox, Artifexian, LangTime Studio, Biblaridion, How to Cook That (Ann Reardon), Dianxi Xiaoge, Chef Wang Gang, Fujian Grandma (the last three are Chinese-language, so turn on the subs. Toxic Men in TV Series who are the absolute worst.

While there are some men who seem to be interesting, let’s not deny the fact that there are most male characters who act like their “toxicity” is cool but honestly, it’s horrible and something not to root for. So here are the toxic male characters who are the absolute worst, excuse my misandry:

Kevin McRoberts - Kevin Can F**k Himself

We had to start somewhere from the bottom of the underworld. A recent entry on this list, Kevin is the lead character Allison’s husband who...let’s just say has the brain of a dumb frat bro who is extremely high on pot and hasn’t recovered since then. While most of the sitcoms in the past would portray these so-called goofy and dim-witted husbands as “big fun” and lovable, Kevin is not like that, at all. In this anti-sitcom nightmare, Kevin literally believes that the whole world revolves around him. He plans such stupid unrealistic schemes to seize the day, recklessly spends the savings on stupid irrelevant sports merchandises and doesn’t even let Allison have her own agency outside of his life. Plus he is so petty and spiteful to the point he destroys one good thing that any of the women in the series have, like Allison’s dream job and Patty’s love life. And that latter was because she didn’t bring him a burger! All of this makes him look less funny and more tyrannical. No wonder poor Allison got spurred into wanting to kill him.

Ross Geller - Friends

Ross may seemed like a “nice guy”, but let’s just agree it was a facade. Ross believes that he knows what’s best for the women he dates in the series and thinks he is superior and is always right about everything. He is seems extremely disturbed over the fact that his ex-wife, Carol is a lesbian and is jilted towards her current wife, Susan and snarks at the latter for it. And then there is her extreme control and jealousy towards Rachel, especially in her career. While Rachel is no saint either, Ross jumps to the conclusion that the man who got her a perfect job wants to sleep with her, then goes out of his way to humiliate and mark his territory on her and even if it’s revealed that the said guy has a girlfriend of his own, Ross still doesn’t abandon his theory, unless he believes that the guy is cheating on his girlfriend with Rachel. And then there is the fact that he joined his student girlfriend on a spring break just to have her all to himself, not caring about the fact that what if one of his students or colleagues would’ve seen him on TV with her and that could’ve put him in a huge scrutiny.

Joe Goldberg - You

The show is basically built around how toxic Joe is, but this didn’t stop him from having his own fanbase apparently, with most of them glossing over his actions. But Joe is not a dream boyfriend at all. Once he sees a woman in front of him, he immediately gets obsessed with her and believes she belongs to him and him only. And to achieve that, he stalks her, he checks everything about her, kills people he believes are harmful to her when he himself is the same and when the woman finds out about him and rejects him, he kidnaps and kills her and the cycle begins again.

Chuck Bass - Gossip Girl

What is it with the teen drama industry’s obsession with the “Bad Boy who can be redeemed with love” trope? Chuck Bass is “the bad boy” of Gossip Girl. If his attempted rape of Serena and Jenny didn’t give fans an indication that how deranged he is, his violent and emotional abuse of his girlfriend Blair cements him as this. He slut-shamed women around him, hit Blair once and even traded her for a hotel ownership and somehow he gets a happy ending with her at the end! What?

Nate Jacobs - Euphoria

Nate is a star quarterback of his high school football team and seems like he has it all, but underneath, he is fucking deranged. His untamed manly rage causes him to physically and emotionally abuse his girlfriend Maddy and blackmail Jules, who didn’t do anything wrong but just sleep with his father, which makes me think that Nate is blackmailing her into lying to the cops about his assault on Maddy when she wasn’t even there when it happened just because it’s fun for him. Honestly, I’d like to see the imagine Rue and Jules had of killing him become a reality someday.

Dawson Leery - Dawson’s Creek

Just because the show is named after him since he is the protagonist, doesn’t justify his actions. Dawson sees himself as some sort of a Nice Guy hero who believes he is entitled to everything. He has this extreme view on women and how they should fulfil his fantasies of his Rom-Com world. He is extremely critical of Jen when he finds out about her promiscuous past and tells her that she should be ashamed of herself for it, and gets jealous when his two best friends Joey and Pacey begin dating. And when he was briefly in the movie business, he was a rookie but was already a primadonna with the director and crew of the movie was working on and insulted a film critic for criticising his movie which was actually bad.

Kilgrave - Jessica Jones

Kilgrave is the main villain of the Marvel-Netflix series Jessica Jones. He becomes obsessed with the titular heroine when she breaks off from his mind-control. Before that, he spent years treating her as his sex slave and raping her constantly, which left her traumatised. He begins to stalker and believe it will be a “lover’s reunion” when he will see her again someday. He manipulates and brainwashes everyone around him to his whim and treats most women as objects but despite all that, sees himself as the good guy of the situation. Even after Jessica finally gives him his just desserts, he still haunts her everyday.

Fernando Vera - Mr. Robot

This spawn of satan is the reason why I decided to write this list in the first place. Where do I even start? He is first introduced into the series when he forces Shayla to go on a date with her and later rape her. This is what causes the misandrist vigilante Elliot to sell him out to the FBI and this apparently turns on Vera and moves his unhealthy obsession to Elliot. He has Shayla killed when he tricks Elliot into breaking him out of prison, then returns to have him all to himself by kidnapping his therapist Krista and forcing information out of her about Elliot so that he could “break him and build him back up”, like a fucked up version of The Taming Of The Shrew. He psychologically abuses Elliot into remembering being sexually abused by his father as a child and proceeds to gaslight him into thinking that he was just helping him. The huge problem with Vera is that he sees himself as some sort of Christian Grey who believes that his abuse towards both Shayla and Elliot is charming. Whenever someone failed his desires, he immediately gets bored of them and moves onto someone else, like when he got Shayla killed and moved onto Elliot. That’s why it felt so cathartic when Krista killed him.

Tate Langdon - American Horror Story

Apparently, he is Tate Langdon and he is...hot?? While most of the AHS fans glorified him due to his emo bad boy nature, let’s not forget the fact that he was a school shooter who murdered innocent students and staff and was in general possessive and toxic towards Violet. So no way he is boyfriend material!

Don Draper - Mad Men

Don Draper was the main protagonist of Mad Men. He was an advertisement and marketing executive who had a lot of vices and did a lot of horrible things such as cheat on his wife and treat almost every women and colleagues like crap.

Dexter Morgan - Dexter

While Dexter might seem like the serial-killer killer, there are a lot of things about him which are unadmirable. He gaslights those he is close to so that they could get off his back, obstructs evidence pointing out to him, captures those who didn’t even fit his victims like Doakes and caused the deaths of LaGuerta, Rita and finally his sister Debra. Yeah I think you should stay away from him.

Walter White - Breaking Bad

Aaah..the worst of the worst. Walter White is the protagonist of the series Breaking Bad. He first starts off as a pushover high school teacher who isn’t respected by anyone. When he gets diagnosed with Lung Cancer, he gets into the meth business so that he could support his family, but we all know that it’s not true. He relishes on the power and glory from being a drug dealer and then kingpin and because of that he ends up abusing both Jesse and Skyler, emotionally abusing and selling out the former to the sadistic Nazis and raping the latter several times. He is so petty and spiteful that he kills anyone insulting his ego, just ask Mike. And even after all this, he still claims that it’s all for his family. Like what?

The Walking Dead Season 11: Who Lives and Who Dies

This Walking Dead article contains major spoilers.

Many of us thought this day would never come, but as all of The Walking Dead‘s characters know very well, everything that has a beginning has an end. Season 11 of AMC’s flagship zombie drama will be the show’s final run of episodes, but fortunately it’s an expanded season. Fans will get 24 more episodes, broken up into three parts, before the show — and a few of its characters — meets its end.

And it wouldn’t be a season of The Walking Dead without a few big deaths along the way. As we have in past seasons, we’ve made some predictions regarding who will bite the bullet in season 11. For the final time, here are the characters we think are on the chopping block and the ones we believe will live on to remember them after the credits roll on the series finale.

Roy (C. Thomas Howell)

Prediction: Dies

Result: Dead

Roy took an arrow to the face during a Reaper ambush.

Gage (Jackson Pace)

Prediction: Dies

Result: Dead

Gage stabbed himself in the chest twice, attempting to kill himself before being devoured by walkers in a train car. Zombie Gage was then put down with a shot to the head by Gabriel.

ALIVE

Pope (Ritchie Coster)

Prediction: Dies

I’ve never seen a guy more likely to die in the first half of a Walking Dead season than Pope, the leader of the show’s newest villains, the Reapers, who themselves strike me as filler villains for Maggie and Daryl while the real story at the Commonwealth develops. I assume the Reapers will be out of the picture by the time Alexandria needs to turn its attention to the much larger settlement in the second part of season 11.

Pamela Milton (Laila Robins)

Prediction: Dies

The Governor of the Commonwealth is poised to be the final season’s big bad. A bureaucrat hellbent on preserving the way things were before the zombie outbreak, Milton even established a caste system within her settlement to propagate class inequality. She represents everything that was wrong with the world before the fall of society and the complete anti-thesis of how the Alexandrians do things.

If you’ve read the comics, you know how Pamela’s story ends in Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s story, but the TV series is known for taking sharp left turns when you least expect it. One thing we know for sure is that the Alexandrians will have to reckon with Pamela’s rule before the series finale.

Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton)

Prediction: Dies

A Commonwealth acolyte and bookkeeper of the community, Lance is one of Milton’s chief personnel, helping her run the settlement’s government. He’s also seems like cannon fodder to me as things heat up between the Commonwealth and Alexandria, an early death that could spark a conflict between the two factions.

Mercer (Michael James Shaw)

Prediction: Lives

Mercer is loyal to the Commonwealth but there are more sides to him than his distinct orange military armor lets on. He’s one of the most interesting characters of the comic’s final storyline, and it would be a shame to lose him before we can see his story through.

Elijah (Okea Eme-Akwari)

Prediction: Lives

Elijah made his debut in one of the most WTF moments of season 10 when he rescued Aaron and Alden from the Whisperers. For weeks after his reveal, people wondered who the man in the steal mask could be. When he returned in the final six episodes of season 10, the show just kind of moved on without fleshing him out, which is unfortunate since he looks so cool! I’m going to assume that the series is saving a big Elijah-focused episode for later in the season and that he’s too awesome to kill off. You don’t just introduce a blade expert in a steel mask for no reason!

Virgil (Kevin Carroll)

Prediction: Dies

Virgil has a lot to atone for after kidnapping and drugging Michonne in season 10. At the end of the season, we learn that he’s found a disoriented Connie in the woods. His redemption arc will likely include helping Connie survive on the walker-infested road back to Alexandria. Will that eventually involve a final sacrifice to save her?

Connie (Lauren Ridloff)

Prediction: Lives

Connie’s been through a hell of a lot in the past season. After surviving an explosion, a cave-in, and an entire walker horde, Connie’s made it out of Whisperer territory but is still a ways from home. Expect part of season 11’s story to be about Connie’s odyssey and ultimate reunion with her sister and Daryl.

Lydia (Cassady McClincy)

Prediction: Lives

Lydia was at the center of Alexandria’s conflict with the Whisperers for a season and a half. With Alpha and Beta defeated, and their faction all but obliterated, I have to wonder what Lydia has left to do on the show. That said, the writers have continued to find interesting ways to explore this character, and someone has to live on to lead the next generation of Alexandrians. I think Lydia is in it for the long haul.

Magna (Nadia Hilker)

Prediction: Dies

Magna was sidelined pretty quickly after her introduction. While a reunion with Yumiko seems like the logical direction for her story, The Walking Dead universe is a cruel one. She could be headed toward tragedy.

Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura)

Prediction: Lives

In season 11, Yumiko is inheriting a major storyline from the comics that likely means she’ll survive the final 24 episodes of the series. Of course, the TV show could always alter that storyline to bring a tragic end to Yumiko’s story.

Luke (Dan Fogler)

Prediction: Dies

It’s pretty wild that Luke has survived as long as he has. A man of the arts hardly has a place in the cruel world of this show, but he has clumsily persevered thus far. But if the writers are planning an especially bloody final season, I’d put Luke on the short list.

Kelly (Angel Theory)

Prediction: Lives

Kelly has been one of the best late additions to the show. It would suck for her to finally reunite with her sister only to meet an unexpected end.

Alden (Callan McAuliffe)

Prediction: Dies

Another candidate for the chopping block. I’m surprised he’s even made it this long.

King Ezekiel (Khary Payton)

Prediction: Lives

Yes, Ezekiel has thyroid cancer, and were he in Alexandria, that would mean his inevitable death. But the Commonwealth is a different ballgame, an advanced settlement in the comics that will likely have the doctors and surgical resources needed to save him. That is, if Ezekiel isn’t caught up in Milton’s caste system.

Jerry (Cooper Andrews)

Prediction: Dies

I love Jerry and don’t want to see the tank with a heart of gold go. But if the season needs an early death that pulls at the heart strings, Jerry is a prime candidate for a midseason casualty.

Father Gabriel Stokes (Seth Gilliam)

Prediction: Lives

Gabriel has evolved so much since his debut in season 5, becoming one of Alexandria’s key leaders. He’s come so far and even survived longer than his comic book counterpart. I’d hate to see him go so close to the end. So I’m just going to say he lives.

Aaron (Ross Marquand)

Prediction: Lives

Aaron seemed destined to die seasons ago, too kind and trusting to survive this long. But here he is, still fighting and surviving. He’s lost the man he loves, his arm, and many friends — and it’s all hardened him into a war machine. It’d be a shame for him to die now.

Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos)

Prediction: Lives

In the comics, Rosita’s head ended up on a pike during the Whisperer war, but her TV counterpart has persevered. It’s difficult to predict where her story goes at this point, but since she survived her comic book death, I assume the show’s writers have something in mind for her in season 11.

Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt)

Prediction: Lives

Eugene has become an unlikely protagonist going into season 11. From a mulleted coward hiding behind his intelligence so that others protect him to the Alexandrian leading his people to the Commonwealth, Eugene is central to the plot of the final season, and I think that means he’s safe. Plus, Eugene is hilarious, and The Walking Dead can always use a little comedic relief.

Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming)

Prediction: Lives

Result: Lived

Rick Grimes Jr. (Antony Azor)

Prediction: Lives

Nah.

Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan)

Prediction: Lives

I think The Walking Dead is going to end with one last big death, one last sacrifice before the credits roll on the massive zombie drama. Like Rick in the comics, one of the major characters of the TV series will likely become the martyr who inspires change inside the Commonwealth’s walls. Negan would probably be on the short list for this big moment from the comics, a villain finally choosing to do the right thing for a cause bigger than himself, a fitting conclusion to his seasons-long redemption arc. But Jeffrey Dean Morgan recently teased that he was already having discussions with AMC about a potential Negan spinoff after The Walking Dead has concluded, which means the former Savior leader is safe…unless the Negan show is a prequel.

Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride)

Prediction: Lives

This one’s an easy one: Melissa McBride is getting her own spinoff that will follow her character after The Walking Dead series finale. That means she’s safe.

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus)

Prediction: Lives

Norman Reedus is joining McBride for that spinoff, so he’s safe, too. The actor even told us what the Daryl and Carol show will be about.

Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan)

Prediction: Dies

That leaves The Walking Dead with one logical choice to pick up Rick’s final storyline from the comic. It’s Maggie. It also makes a bit of sense from a logistical standpoint. Lauren Cohan has already left The Walking Dead universe once before to pursue other small and big screen projects. She’s back for the final 24 episodes of the series as a welcome legacy character but that doesn’t mean Cohan wants to stick around for longer than that. I assume Cohan’s returned to bring closure to her character, not to prepare for a spinoff.

Is America disintegrating into anarchy and civil war among races, religions, and regions? Is the country more divided than ever before? The answer is no. The social and economic divides among white Northerners and white Southerners, Blacks and whites, Catholics and Protestants and Jews were much more intense in 1920 than they are today in 2020. What has happened is that the formerly unified, mostly Northern mainline Protestant American establishment has—perhaps temporarily—broken down, allowing the actual diversity of interests and opinions in the United States to be expressed rather than suppressed. If the emerging woke national establishment has its way, however, that diversity of viewpoints and values will soon be suppressed once again, in favor of an intolerant and exclusive doctrine that greatly resembles the old-time Social Gospel from which it is derived.

With the exceptions of Grover Cleveland and Woodrow Wilson, every American president between 1861 and 1933 was a Republican mainline Protestant from the North or Midwest. The Republican Party, still the Lincoln coalition of Northern industrialists and Yankee Protestants, dominated Congress in the same era. Industry and finance were in the hands of a small number of Northeastern financiers, many of them old-stock Northeastern Protestants like J.P. Morgan. The Democratic Party that dominated the United States between the 1930s and the 1980s had a few Yankee progressive members, but it was essentially the old Jacksonian alliance of white Southerners and non-British “white ethnics” in the North. If Harry Truman is understood correctly as a cultural Southerner from Missouri, then with one exception every Democratic president between Roosevelt and Obama was a white Southerner—Truman, Johnson, Carter, and Clinton. The one exception was John F. Kennedy, from the other wing of the Jacksonian anti-Yankee alliance of Southerners and Irish Americans. Meanwhile, the Solid South combined with the seniority system ensured that Southerners, many of them segregationists, dominated Congress and the Senate throughout the New Deal era.

Driven from the White House for half a century after 1932, marginalized in Congress and circumvented by federal state capitalism, the Northern mainline Protestant elite managed to preserve its dominance in three areas: The “Deep State,” the major nonprofit foundations, and elite prep schools and universities. In the movie The Good Shepherd (2007), Joe Pesci’s Mafioso says to Matt Damon’s WASP CIA agent: “You know, we Italians have our families and the church, the Irish have the homeland, the Jews their tradition, the [Blacks] their music. What do you guys have?” Damon’s character replies: “We have the United States of America. The rest of you are just visiting.”

In addition to the “Deep State,” other national institutions that the neo-Jacksonians of the New Deal coalition never conquered in their revolution against Yankeedom include the major nonprofit foundations like Ford and Rockefeller and the Ivy League universities. The culture of what might be called the NGO-academic-spook complex remained deeply rooted in the Social Gospel wing of Northern mainline Protestantism of the early 1900s.

The Social Gospel progressivism these institutions have long embraced is a Janus-faced tradition. One face is technocratic, holding that social and global conflicts, rather than reflecting the tragic nature of human existence, are “problems” which can be “solved” by nonpartisan experts guided by something called “social science.” The other face of Social Gospelism is irrational, and rooted in post-millennial Protestant theology convinced that we are on the verge of a world of peace and prosperity, if only wicked people at home and wicked regimes abroad can be crushed once and for all.

This mentality with its bizarre synthesis of science-inspired technocracy and millenniarian zeal, was shared by many turn-of-the-century Progressives, including Woodrow Wilson, a Southern-born Northern transplant. As Dorothy Ross points out in The Origins of American Social Science (1990), Wilson, like many leading American Progressives, was the child of a mainline Protestant minister.

Shedding its specifically Northern mainline Protestant cultural attributes, a version of Social Gospel Protestantism has mutated into the secular religion of wokeness, the orthodoxy of the universities and the increasingly important nonprofit sector. Its converts include many of the affluent white secular children and grandchildren of members of mainline Protestant denominations like the Episcopalians, Presbyterians, and Methodists, which are hemorrhaging membership to the category of religious “nones.”

By evolving from an ethnoregional culture into a crusading secular creed disseminated by the universities, the public school system, the corporate media, and corporate HR departments, post-Protestant wokeness is capable of assimilating anyone, of any race or ethnicity, native-born or immigrant, who is willing to conform to its weird rituals and snobbish etiquette. The Long Island lockjaw accent has been replaced by the constantly updated “woke” dialect of the emerging American elite as a status marker. You may have an Asian or Spanish surname, but if you know what “nonbinary” means and say “Latinx” (a term rejected by the overwhelming majority of Americans of Latin American origin) then you are potentially eligible for membership in the new national ruling class.

Although the woke managerial culture in the United States has lost most of the vestiges of its Yankee mainline Protestant origins, the emerging American national oligarchy has the same enemies as the old New England-Midwestern WASP oligarchy: white Southerners, Catholic white ethnics and observant Jews. This became clear in the summer of 2020. The woke left not only demanded the removal of statues of Confederate traitors—a perfectly reasonable demand—but also targeted Columbus, the icon of Italian Americans, and Spanish Catholic saints and conquistadors. Democratic liberals warned, in the tones of 19th-century Yankee Protestant nativists, that papists were taking over the Supreme Court. At the same time, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio, Italian American by ancestry but woke by culture, exhibited a striking double standard when it came to public gatherings by left-wing protesters on the one hand and, on the other, Orthodox and Hasidic Jews.

What we are witnessing is a power grab carried out chiefly by some white Americans against other white Americans. The goal of the new woke national establishment, the successor to the old Northeastern mainline Protestant establishment that was temporarily displaced by the neo-Jacksonian New Deal Democratic coalition, is to stigmatize, humiliate and disempower recalcitrant Southern, Catholic, and Jewish whites, along with members of ethnic and racial minorities who refuse to be assimilated into the new national orthodoxy disseminated from New York, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and the prestigious private universities of New England. Properly understood, the Great Awokening is the revenge of the Yankees.

They are adding a whole extra day to filming to do the final scene. They will film the final scene last.  (Implies logistics- lots of returning people?)

Brad Bucker used the word “romance” when asked about Sam and Dean’s arcs. Did not specify who. 

In an interview, Kripe indicated that the series ending would have “peace” for Sam and Dean

Not much new at the TCA’s, but it was said it is “unlikely” Jeffery Dean Morgan will be back since his last appearance was such a good end note. There were some jokes about a Castiel spin off. Hell, I’d watch. 

There will be a special tribute ep, not clear if its one of the 20 or additional

Misha will be in 15 out of 20 episodes this season

Also according to Dabb, Jack is still in the empty and “he’s not coming back in the near future”

Cas’ deal with the Empty may come up later in the season. 

Dabb intimated that Chuck was inherently responsible for killing Mary when asked how the boys would respond to Jack. 

Dabb compared Chuck and John Winchester, claiming that Dean would have to break free of “conditioning.” Also, for Jack “there have been cosmic forces fighting for his attention since he was in the womb — and that will continue. As much as this season is about Sam and Dean finding agency, it’s also about Castiel finding agency, and it’s about Jack finding agency. As always, death is never the end. It’s just part of the journey and that’s certainly true with Jack.” 

Per Variety: At the outset of the season, the “Supernatural” foursome of Dean, Sam, Castiel and Jack are split up, but Dabb notes they won’t be for long because “ultimately this is a found family, and they have deep emotional bonds” that make up the most important part of the show.

At a convention, Jake Abel was asked to share two lies about Adam’s return and a truth. The said 1. Adam is not upset about hell 2. Adam kills someone 3. Adam bring someone back. I am assuming its the bring someone back (Micheal?)

In one of his cookbook interviews, Misha used the word “we” several times when talking about the final scene of Supernatural. He said that would be the last scene they shoot. It seemed to imply that he was in the scene, but that could be open to interpretation. 

The finale will air on Monday May 18th. The show will move to Mondays when it comes back on March 16th. It’s gotta come back either than that and go on a mini break or something, because that is not enough Mondays. 

Dabb mentioned that once Sam realizes what is going on with his connection to Chuck, he will reach out to people “some we expect and some not”

There will be a battle scene in this that Jensen mentioned he was looking forward to and we would enjoy. 

After NJ Con, it appeared that Jensen returned to work, Jared and Misha stayed an extra day and then Misha went home. Misha only did about 2 days of filming. 

Jensen and Christian filmed at a bar called Swazey’s. This was the fight scene Jensen was referring to. 

At some point, Sam might be shirtless or we can see part of his chest- Jared had his anti-possession tattoo at the weekend convention.

Per TVGuide, Leo and Dean will have a wild night out in an effort for Dean to recapture his mojo. Dean will become the lead of a band called Dean and the Impalas, which is made up of Supernatural crew. 

Osric Chau popped over to set, but he is filming on Legends of Tomorrow in the same studio. Sebastin Roche also indicated he would come by, he is filming on Batgirl. Unfortunately, neither Kevin or Balthazar will appear in this one.

Written Evaluation of Live Brief

I chose the McCann Bacardi brief because it was the one that really stood out to me in the pitches. The brief seemed full of possibility as it was quite open ended as to what we could produce. Bacardi is a brand with a long history and this is something that drew me to the project. I am a very research heavy designer and with a background in history and psychology, I enjoy in depth research of the project that I am undertaking. My aim for this project is to start with exploring the history of the brand Bacardi and what makes it unique in the marketplace, and use that to base my campaign on.

The brief is to increase awareness and relevancy of the Bacardí brand amongst the 18-25 year old demographic. People in this age range normally opt for other brands of rum like Kraken, Captain Morgan and Sailor Jerry who all possess strong branding and therefore brand loyalty amongst millennials. I don’t know anyone personally who drinks bacardí and although we are all aware of its presence in the marketplace, no one reaches for it. Interestingly when speaking to my mother about the brief she instantly told me that that is what her friends used to drink in the 1980s, and when I began to research Bacardí’s history I found a New York Times article from 21st February 1981, stating that ‘Bacardi is most popular drink… among American consumers… with sales of 6.85 million cases in 1980.’ This is a drink which has fallen off the radar in the last 30 years, so it’s due a comeback.

Advertising is something I have been exploring since the middle of last year, the project that captured my imagination the most was our narrative project where I created an anti-death penalty advertising campaign called 31 Too Many. I absolutely loved working on that project and it really got me interested in the world of advertising, and David urged me to keep looking at advertising as I progressed through my course; therefore choosing this brief seemed quite natural for me. I saw great scope in the potential of the campaign, and once they mentioned the ways that we could advertise Bacardí the ideas began flowing, we could use audio, either in the traditional sense or in a more modern environmental setting to create an installation, social media or an out of home advertisement campaign. I began exploring environmental graphics and way finding last year and this is something I would like to research further and potentially incorporate into my Bacardi pitch. 

I was also considering the Shed brief as this was packaging and branding based, something that I am also interested in, and have been exploring over the summer through the homework, however the brief was quite closed as to what they wanted and this put me off slightly. That, combined with the energy of the McCann team and their pitch sealed the deal for me.

On the Monday of week 3 Ross and Charlotte from McCann came back in for an interim review of our progress on the Remix a Classic Bacardi brief, I had prepared nine ideas to pitch to them. These ideas included a pop up bottle bar, a campaign built around people who live their lives in the Bacardi spirit, another centred around the people of Bacardi, a radio or Spotify advert focusing on the noises created while making a cocktail, a video advert featuring the Bacardi bats returning home, a competition to win a Bacardi prohibition party,  a social media campaign built around partnerships with famous mixologists, a large scale Bacardi experience, and a touring pop up bar inside a classic Cuban car. For me, the pitch experience was rather daunting, not because of who we were pitching to but because we had to pitch in front of our classmates, which is something that I always find scary. 

After pitching they were rather vocal about a few of my ideas, the first one that they really liked was the cocktail noises radio advert. The format of the advert would be that you would hear the individual noises of someone making a cocktail, like ice hitting a glass, limes being squeezed and Bacardi being poured in; slowly the noises would start to repeat and overlap until they turned into a beat, then you’d hear the slogan ‘Bacardi, remix  a classic.’ I found it strange that they were so drawn to this idea when it was one that I’d put in at the last minute as I didn’t have any audio ads. Despite them liking this idea a lot, it’s not something I had any interest in pursuing as I don’t have an interest in audio and don’t currently have the skills to produce it. They also really liked the idea of the Bacardi pop up experience which would allow people to walk through a Havana street and learn about the culture of Havana and the history of Bacardi, they also thought that there was something in the idea of the pop up bars inside the classic cars.

After the visit I felt thoroughly confused as some of the ideas that I had gone in there with, they weren’t that keen on and they seemed to like the ones that I wasn’t too excited about, so I requested a one to one with Kingsley to try and clear my mind a little as I had no idea where to go next. He looked through all my ideas and advised me not to continue with ones I had no passion for as I wouldn’t produce my best work. After some discussion we decided that I was going to look into the pop up bar cars and try and expand on that idea as he thought there was really something interesting about it. So my next step was to look into other classically Cuban things to try and put a spin on, and therefore ‘Remix a Classic’

On the Monday of Week 5 it was time to pitch our final ideas to McCann, it had been two weeks since we had last seen them for the interim pitches and feedback, and my idea was now fully formed. I had created an out of home pop up Bacardi event based around classic cars turned into mobile bars called #BarCarDi. The immersive event would feature an entire fully built Havana street which would then open up into a large tree lined square decorated with fairy lights. There would be food trucks serving new takes on classic cuban food and Cuban DJs playing both Cuban and western music, but the main focus would be the cars and the new Bacardi cocktails that they would serve, they could potentially offer deals for example when you hear a Cuban remix of a popular song, the cocktails would be on 2 for 1 . 

I thoroughly enjoyed this project and definitely approached it in a more professional way than I have with other previous projects, I was working hard on it from the beginning, despite being off ill from uni for the first two weeks; by the time I came back I had filled over half of my sketchbook with research and ideas. This project really captured my interest, way more than any other project on this course so far, and it was this interest that sparked my passion and drove me to work incredibly hard on it, something that I have really enjoyed, as I have not felt drive like that in a long time. Obviously with the end point being a pitch at the McCann offices, that also spurred me on, and encouraged me to work in a professional way as I wanted to be taken seriously as a designer and not as an average university student. 

From this project I have learnt how hard you have to work in the industry, I found this project incredibly hard work despite the face that we had probably five times as long as you’d have in industry to put an idea together for a pitch. I feel that this project instilled a work ethic in me that I’ve not had since A Levels, and I really enjoyed the process. The project also inspired me to look further into the advertising industry as I found such passion in this project, I have read multiple books since the beginning of the project, on top of the work, in order to learn as much as I could about the industry so I could apply it to my work. 

I think that the main thing that I will apply to my future work and future career is the work ethic that I really developed on this project, I am proud of how hard I worked and I feel that this is evident in the final outcome, something that I am incredibly proud of and would love to develop further in the future.

Graduating With Honors: 'The Graduate'

THERE is a particular satisfaction in being able to wind up this year—and also my occupation of the job of film critic on The Times—with a hearty salute to a film and a talent which-remind me excitingly of a film and a talent that I was privileged to hail within a few months after I took over this job.

The film is Mike Nichols’s "The Graduate,” a funny and sharp satiric thrust at a delicate and generally neglected aspect of contemporary American society—that is, the piteous immaturity and anti-intellectualism of a large proportion of the supposedly educated and cultivated affluent middle-class. And the film of which it reminds me by the nature of its fresh satiric style is Preston Sturges’s "The Great McGinty,” a wonderful lampoon of American machine politics.

In so many ways, this nifty picture that Mr. Nichols has made from a script by Calder Willingham and Buck Henry, based on a novel by Charles Webb, compares to that delicious entertainment with which Mr. Sturges began his career as one of the most skillful and prolific satirists ever to make films in Hollywood.

Its subject and contemplation are distinctly American, pegged to the characteristics of ways of life in the United States. Its people are recognizable as only Americans, just as the people in Alfred Hitchcock’s earlier pictures were recognizable only as British or those in Marcel Pagnol’s as only French. It is deftly sophisticated without in any way being above or condescending to the mass audience’s intelligence and taste. And its cinematic style is energetic, aggressive and full of surprise.

It tells of the embarrassments and confusions of a solemn young man when he returns to the Beverly Hills home of his parents after graduating from one of the eastern status colleges and is tacitly expected by his parents to fall into their pattern of life. That pattern includes gay parties around the family swimming-pool, a lot of drinking, riding in sports cars, golf, and naturally, marrying a girl of one set. It presumes an ebullient spirit and a posture of youth fulness. It does not tolerate indecision or contemplation towards which this young man obviously is bent.

This is an area familial to Mr. Nichols, whose skit: with Elaine May have brilliantly satirized the manner: and the cliche concepts of the affluent society. And his film quickly glides into the postures and the patter of the shallow new rich.

But it soon angles into an aspect of this affluent society that is neither funny nor vulgarly amusing, though Mr. Nichols manages to make it seem a practice of personal conduct that is full of droll grotesqueries. It is the practice of sexual infidelity, and here he has it originated and engineered by the wife of the partner of the young man’s father who bluntly seduces the youth.

In a secret liaison between the older woman and the diffident young man which rapidly becomes a series of frantic, and sometimes fanciful funny, hotel rendezvous, Mr. Nichols develops what Is actually a quite sordid state of affairs into a wickedly sly, amusing and marginally poignant illumination of a fact of life. It is clearly the graduate's initiation into the deeper mysteries of sex which, with an older woman, should presumably be mature. But with this voracious woman, who is evidently no more mature than the lad (and has her own vaguely intimated hangups), it is a clutter of juvenile gaucheries.

With anyone less skillful and aptly dead-panned than Anne Bancroft playing the wife and a marvelous new young actor named Dustin Hoffman playing the conscientious youth, this development in the story could be repellent. As it stands, however, it is astonishing, uproarious and pathetic because of the inadequacies and frustrations it implies.

While involved in this disquieting liaison, the young-man is ruefully compel ltd to take out the daughter of the very woman with whom he is having the affair. And— again as a plot maneuver that in itself satirizes a cliche—he finds himself first treating this youngster rudely and then falling boyishly in love with her.

Desperately and without mature reasoning, he goes chasing after her when she returns to her studies at the University of California in Berkeley. Frantically he pursues her, begs her to marry him, as though marriage was as ordinary a procedure as signing up for a course in Modem Art. And, when she dismally rebuffs him because she has got a fallacious report of his affair with her mother, and goes racing off to marry another young man, our lad does the usual, romantic and immature thing. He goes after her.

The way Mr. Nichols ends his picture is the final satire twist in this altogether bright and cinematic contemplation of affluent immaturity.

Again I must mention how comparable and remindful this film is of the attitude and style of Mr. Sturges— of his richly satiric lampoons of American morals and manners. It is actually most reminiscent of his c.as-sic spoof of hurried-up matrimony and maternity, "The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek."

There is much the same verbal dexterity and commentary in Mr. Nichols’ film, much the same fluency with camera, and sharpness and surprise In editing. He, who was trained in the theater, as Mr. Sturges was. also picked his actors shrewdly and gets dandy performances from them.

Miss Bancroft and Mr. Hoffman are superior—he particularly, because he has to keep believable and sympathetic this extraordinarily sensitive, decent, foolish little guy, and he does so with amazing physical crotchets and personality pleasantries.

Katharine Ross is charming and revealing in her own girlish, tightlipped ways of the uncertainties and confusions of the nice, well-to-do college girl, and Murray Hamilton, William Daniels and Elizabeth Wilson are devastating and a little pathetic in the roles of parents who have money but not much concept of what is happening to them or what they are.

Especially subtle and appealing is the way background folk music is used to suggest moods and counterpoint fast humor with gentle wistfulness. The music is done by Simon and Garfunkel, whose ‘‘Are You Going to Scarborough Fair” is especially appealing and appropriate to the strain of sadness that runs through the film.

The Walking Dead Season 11: Who Lives and Who Dies

This Walking Dead article contains major spoilers.

Many of us thought this day would never come, but as all of The Walking Dead‘s characters know very well, everything that has a beginning has an end. Season 11 of AMC’s flagship zombie drama will be the show’s final run of episodes, but fortunately it’s an expanded season. Fans will get 24 more episodes, broken up into three parts, before the show — and a few of its characters — meets its end.

And it wouldn’t be a season of The Walking Dead without a few big deaths along the way. As we have in past seasons, we’ve made some predictions regarding who will bite the bullet in season 11. For the final time, here are the characters we think are on the chopping block and the ones we believe will live on to remember them after the credits roll on the series finale.

Pope (Ritchie Coster)

Prediction: Dies

I’ve never seen a guy more likely to die in the first half of a Walking Dead season than Pope, the leader of the show’s newest villains, the Reapers, who themselves strike me as filler villains for Maggie and Daryl while the real story at the Commonwealth develops. I assume the Reapers will be out of the picture by the time Alexandria needs to turn its attention to the much larger settlement in the second part of season 11.

Pamela Milton (Laila Robins)

Prediction: Dies

The Governor of the Commonwealth is poised to be the final season’s big bad. A bureaucrat hellbent on preserving the way things were before the zombie outbreak, Milton even established a caste system within her settlement to propagate class inequality. She represents everything that was wrong with the world before the fall of society and the complete anti-thesis of how the Alexandrians do things.

If you’ve read the comics, you know how Pamela’s story ends in Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s story, but the TV series is known for taking sharp left turns when you least expect it. One thing we know for sure is that the Alexandrians will have to reckon with Pamela’s rule before the series finale.

Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton)

Prediction: Dies

A Commonwealth acolyte and bookkeeper of the community, Lance is one of Milton’s chief personnel, helping her run the settlement’s government. He’s also seems like cannon fodder to me as things heat up between the Commonwealth and Alexandria, an early death that could spark a conflict between the two factions.

Mercer (Michael James Shaw)

Prediction: Lives

Mercer is loyal to the Commonwealth but there are more sides to him than his distinct orange military armor lets on. He’s one of the most interesting characters of the comic’s final storyline, and it would be a shame to lose him before we can see his story through.

Virgil (Kevin Carroll)

Prediction: Dies

Virgil has a lot to atone for after kidnapping and drugging Michonne in season 10. At the end of the season, we learn that he’s found a disoriented Connie in the woods. His redemption arc will likely include helping Connie survive on the walker-infested road back to Alexandria. Will that eventually involve a final sacrifice to save her?

Connie (Lauren Ridloff)

Prediction: Lives

Connie’s been through a hell of a lot in the past season. After surviving an explosion, a cave-in, and an entire walker horde, Connie’s made it out of Whisperer territory but is still a ways from home. Expect part of season 11’s story to be about Connie’s odyssey and ultimate reunion with her sister and Daryl.

Lydia (Cassady McClincy)

Prediction: Lives

Lydia was at the center of Alexandria’s conflict with the Whisperers for a season and a half. With Alpha and Beta defeated, and their faction all but obliterated, I have to wonder what Lydia has left to do on the show. That said, the writers have continued to find interesting ways to explore this character, and someone has to live on to lead the next generation of Alexandrians. I think Lydia is in it for the long haul.

Magna (Nadia Hilker)

Prediction: Dies

Magna was sidelined pretty quickly after her introduction. While a reunion with Yumiko seems like the logical direction for her story, The Walking Dead universe is a cruel one. She could be headed toward tragedy.

Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura)

Prediction: Lives

In season 11, Yumiko is inheriting a major storyline from the comics that likely means she’ll survive the final 24 episodes of the series. Of course, the TV show could always alter that storyline to bring a tragic end to Yumiko’s story.

Luke (Dan Fogler)

Prediction: Dies

It’s pretty wild that Luke has survived as long as he has. A man of the arts hardly has a place in the cruel world of this show, but he has clumsily persevered thus far. But if the writers are planning an especially bloody final season, I’d put Luke on the short list.

Kelly (Angel Theory)

Prediction: Lives

Kelly has been one of the best late additions to the show. It would suck for her to finally reunite with her sister only to meet an unexpected end.

Alden (Callan McAuliffe)

Prediction: Dies

Another candidate for the chopping block. I’m surprised he’s even made it this long.

King Ezekiel (Khary Payton)

Prediction: Lives

Yes, Ezekiel has thyroid cancer, and were he in Alexandria, that would mean his inevitable death. But the Commonwealth is a different ballgame, an advanced settlement in the comics that will likely have the doctors and surgical resources needed to save him. That is, if Ezekiel isn’t caught up in Milton’s caste system.

Jerry (Cooper Andrews)

Prediction: Dies

I love Jerry and don’t want to see the tank with a heart of gold go. But if the season needs an early death that pulls at the heart strings, Jerry is a prime candidate for a midseason casualty.

Father Gabriel Stokes (Seth Gilliam)

Prediction: Lives

Gabriel has evolved so much since his debut in season 5, becoming one of Alexandria’s key leaders. He’s come so far and even survived longer than his comic book counterpart. I’d hate to see him go so close to the end. So I’m just going to say he lives.

Aaron (Ross Marquand)

Prediction: Lives

Aaron seemed destined to die seasons ago, too kind and trusting to survive this long. But here he is, still fighting and surviving. He’s lost the man he loves, his arm, and many friends — and it’s all hardened him into a war machine. It’d be a shame for him to die now.

Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos)

Prediction: Lives

In the comics, Rosita’s head ended up on a pike during the Whisperer war, but her TV counterpart has persevered. It’s difficult to predict where her story goes at this point, but since she survived her comic book death, I assume the show’s writers have something in mind for her in season 11.

Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt)

Prediction: Lives

Eugene has become an unlikely protagonist going into season 11. From a mulleted coward hiding behind his intelligence so that others protect him to the Alexandrian leading his people to the Commonwealth, Eugene is central to the plot of the final season, and I think that means he’s safe. Plus, Eugene is hilarious, and The Walking Dead can always use a little comedic relief.

Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming)

Prediction: Lives

Result: Lived

NO.

Rick Grimes Jr. (Antony Azor)

Prediction: Lives

Nah.

Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan)

Prediction: Lives

I think The Walking Dead is going to end with one last big death, one last sacrifice before the credits roll on the massive zombie drama. Like Rick in the comics, one of the major characters of the TV series will likely become the martyr who inspires change inside the Commonwealth’s walls. Negan would probably be on the short list for this big moment from the comics, a villain finally choosing to do the right thing for a cause bigger than himself, a fitting conclusion to his seasons-long redemption arc. But Jeffrey Dean Morgan recently teased that he was already having discussions with AMC about a potential Negan spinoff after The Walking Dead has concluded, which means the former Savior leader is safe…unless the Negan show is a prequel.

Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride)

Prediction: Lives

This one’s an easy one: Melissa McBride is getting her own spinoff that will follow her character after The Walking Dead series finale. That means she’s safe.

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus)

Prediction: Lives

Norman Reedus is joining McBride for that spinoff, so he’s safe, too. The actor even told us what the Daryl and Carol show will be about.

Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan)

Prediction: Dies

That leaves The Walking Dead with one logical choice to pick up Rick’s final storyline from the comic. It’s Maggie. It also makes a bit of sense from a logistical standpoint. Lauren Cohan has already left The Walking Dead universe once before to pursue other small and big screen projects. She’s back for the final 24 episodes of the series as a welcome legacy character but that doesn’t mean Cohan wants to stick around for longer than that. I assume Cohan’s returned to bring closure to her character, not to prepare for a spinoff.

How astounding it is to witness a tech-world where imaginary characters can become a reality with the help of AI. Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg has already started to work on the subject by inventing his personal home AI assistant called ‘Jarvis’ to create virtual reality visualizations.

It all began with Expressionism

Experts are working persistently to experience pivotal Artificial Intelligence (AI) age not from a decade but from far earlier. Film industry is one such arena utilizing AI in big-small ways to add special effects and gather eyeballs. Surprisingly, the use of AI in movies dates back to the time where before the videos even had audio. Shocking, right? In 1927, German Expressionism film ‘Metropolis’ introduced a robotic character which became a benchmark and allowed experts to forecast the success of AI in film making and advertising in the years to come. Today, the technology providers have upped the ante and companies are training their AI systems and bots to make a complete video. Use of sophisticated technology has allowed the film makers to evade time-consuming activities while saving significant production costs. This is evidenced by many movies which have become benign examples of this smart technology.

Movie Trailer for ‘Morgan’

20th Century Fox collaborated with IBM and its AI system called ‘Watson’ to develop the trailer of the horror movie ‘Morgan’. The 6 minutes trailer was created by Watson in only 24 hours that could have taken weeks if produced by humans. The AI system was trained by the experts by segmenting audio, visuals and other essential elements of 100 horror movies to teach it moments for creating automated trailer. Each shot was labelled with an emotion from 24 various emotions like frightening, eerie, and joy to make the trailer functional. The movie was the first attempt at using the AI for trailers and it not only reduced production cost but also the time from weeks to hours.

‘Zone Out’, the automated short film

The fact  is, the movie is fully bizarre, has incoherent and hilarious dialogues, a completely muddled plotline, distorted characters, and eerie soundtrack. However, despite being a mismatch for entertainment, the video demonstrated a positive indication of AI in the entertainment sector. This 5-minute film was written, directed and edited entirely by the AI algorithm called ‘Benjamin’ in just 48 hours. The creation is a collective effort of Los Angeles based director, Oscar Sharp and Ross Goodwin, who is also a creative technologist at Google, to learn dialogue using voice-generation and face-swapping technology. The partners have worked before to work on the same subject by creating another short film- ‘Sunspring’. The movie was less of a failure than ‘Zone out’ as it used real actors and dialogues.

The Endgame’s AI Paradigm

James Alexander Hendler, an AI researcher with his expert team used AI algorithms and machine learning programming to convert the very dashing Josh Brolin into the anti-hero- ‘Thanos’. The team worked extensively to train the AI-backed system to scan and record actor’s expressions and face structure to automatically map on the animated character body. This helped the actor to perform with other co-stars instead of alone in front of a blue or green screen. Meanwhile, Digital Domain’s machine learning algorithm saved lots of time by capturing it in real time to perform face mapping and swapping.

AI and robots are rapidly automating the filmmaking process to bring out impressive results and error-free edits but there is still humongous amount of work to be done. Technology is improving and there is a long way to go and develop smart AI algorithms to speed up the entertainment sector but experts like Hendler believe that soon AI and bots will become the norm to film industry.
