Since when is killing off disable character a simplification?
Since when is getting rid of character intelligence simplification?
Since when is erasing author's culture from the story simplification?
Also they pretty much called americans stupid, like I'm begging this team to shut the fuck up already or admit they have no idea what they are doing

Rant 4: Ciri and Yennefer
In netflix witcher it's barely possible to see age difference in Ciri and Yen. They look like they are friends from highschool or something.
•CIRI:
In my opinion, Ciri is way too old, in books she started as 12 and finished as 16. Meanwhile here she looks like she is 20 and acts like she is older teen. She doesn't act like young girl that both Geralt and Yennefer had to raise and teach her things that they believe in. Ciri after short training in Kaer Morhen acts like she is better than Geralt. He is only her support and she kills all the monsters and fights elves. Ciris personality and story in series is personally offensive for me, because I always saw her as my absolutely favourite character, yet in netflix series I hate her. She is such a mary sue who as teen is stronger than adult witcher who is mutated and trained. Congrats netflix, you clearly have no idea how to write strong women without making them mary sues and annoying.
• YENNEFER:
Same issue as Ciri. Yen doesn't match her age. She is way too young and acts way too chaotic. She doesn't seem to be advanced sorceress who finished Aretuza and had her own practice. Since second season, she acts just like begginer sorceress student, who knows maybe 5-6 spells. But somehow netflix tries to making her a saviour and martyer by making her do bad things ----> getting punished ----> deciding to save everyone. In second season she tried to sacrifice Ciri to some Baba Jaga from aliexpress who was cheap version of Mr. Mirror from witcher 3. (And let's not forget how Lauren promised to not take inspirations from game). In books, metting of sorcerers and sorceresses was normal thing that happened ocassionally. But in series ofc they had to make Yennefer throw party to "make friendships, not enemies" and shit like that. Yennefer is one of worst characters in whole series, just like Lauren didn't read her description in books.
In books, Yennefer used to call Ciri "ugly", because Ciri was just a kid and as a kid she wasn't really pretty. Now, when in series Ciri propably is 20 or around 20 it just seem very cynnical, just like Yen is jealous about Ciri and Geralt or something xD

When I say I’m a Witcher fan, I mean the original novels and the games, cuz I actually give a shit about Slavic folklore.
The show has made it clear it doesn’t.

I’ve said it before I’ll say it again. There is a criminal under-appreciation and discrimination and cultural-appropriation in cinema when it comes to Slavic people. Eastern Europe isn’t portrayed at all, and Russian people are constantly made either mob bosses, spies, prostitues or gopniks as if that’s all we are. I suppose that these stereotypes were partly caused by the propaganda during the Cold War, but it still doesn’t excuse anything. And that’s why I think it was a big mistake to hire poc and actors that generally do not look Slavic for the Witcher show. I’m not against poc in shows or whatever somebody’s critical thinking deprived mind might think. I’m against hiring actors that do not logically fit into the scenario of the film. Had the show been about native Africans and there were white people playing them, the internet would’ve gone batshit. But when it’s Slavic people and Slavic culture, it’s ok. Erasure, discrimination, general fucking stupidity only for the sake of pleasing critics or whatever is ok. They should have hired Slavic actors or people who looked like Slavic people for every character that had Slavic features in the book. The books had some poc, though not many of them, because they were written by a polish man and were heavily affected by Slavic culture. We need to end Slavic hate.

i refuse to watch the show cuz fuck that but i wanted to know what happened so i read the episode synopses and.
they killed eskel? in the SECOND EPISODE????
also they didn't bother tinting ciri's or geralt's eyebrows and that fucking infuriates me. geralt is supposed to be totally washed out of colour while ciri has white-blonde hair, neither of which allows dark eyebrows!!!! my hair's darkened with age but i am formerly a platinum blonde - my eyebrows always matched my hair.
fuck i hate adaptions. i wish they weren't a thing. uuggghhhhh

Are they really trying to portray selfish deadbeat Visenna as tragic and sympathetic by killing her off offscreen? After she knowingly and deliberately abandoned her son, sent Geralt to suffer horribly and potentially die from monstrous experiments on children at Kaer Morhen? And they’re actually playing that decision off as having been done by her out of selfless “love”? To “save” him?” Presumably so he could eat, even though Geralt states she was capable of using her magic to make them food? We’re supposed to buy that poorly written, asinine, intelligence insulting excuse, care and feel bad for her contrived, non canonical death now?
Give me a goddamn break, Lauren.

I can't believe I have to say this but ageing up the character who is a child in the book so you can tell a new romance story in your show is fucking creepy!
It was creepy when they did that in Earthsea, it was creepy when they did that in Game of Thrones and it is still creepy now in the Witcher!

tbh im so fucking tired of lauren strawmanning the shit out of book and game fans to deflect any criticism. everything with her boils down to being misogynistic and racist, no matter how logical your points are. she gave a platform to that one youtuber guy whose only criticism of the show was "women have too much screen time" BECAUSE she wanted to send a message that "omg only people like this would ever criticise my work uwu" while she blatantly ignores everyone who criticizes her for bastardizing women and whitewashing her own actors.

Rant 3: Radoskier
When they announced that ship, I was surprised, like alot of witcher fans because wtf it's so random. I don't understand why they had to make that ship canon in series. They had to change Randovid's age and it's such a tryhard. If somehow that blog was suggested to some fan of witcher netflix series:
OG Radovid in books was Vizimir's son. During action of books he was something like 12. He is younger than Ciri. And in games he is fanatic who hates magic, sorceresses and non humans.
That ship feels so forced and I feel like even if they wanted to make Jaskier bisexual, they could just make OC character and not tryhard with Radovid.
Also, Radovid is so bland character. He reminds me of shitty sub uke characters from yaoi. He is stupid af, he doesn't think before making actions. I wonder if they created him like that on purpose or no.

One of the most insulting things about this show is their treatment of Eskel.
Eskel is a great example of a man with disfigured face (allegory for disability) who’s an honest-to-god good person. Actually, aside from Geralt, one of the few level-headed, peaceful Witchers. Proof that just cuz you’re disabled/disfigure, doesn’t mean you’re a monster.
And the show made him into an asshole. Then later, a mutated leshen. A monster.
Sidenote: I’ve been disabled since I was 6 months old, and people who don’t know me treat me different except when they get to know me.
Ciri, upon first meeting Eskel is scared cuz of his face scars but then he speaks and her fear is gone.
Netflix basically teaches that: disabled = monster.
Tumblr media
And that’s seriously fucked up.
