Once Bitten, Twice Angry - Miguel O'Hara x Anti Hero!Reader
Tumblr media
So. This isnt planned to be a fic - in fact Im writing it on my phone (which is something I NEVER do). But the idea came to me today and its itching the inside of my skull so I decided to write it down. Its silly - just an thought experiment to get the Across the Spiderverse brain worms out.
This isnt intended to be a romantic fic, either. At the point of writing this author blurb, i dont even know how Miguel fits into it beyond the main idea of him being venomous.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think
This isnt edited, and was typed out pretty quickly on a phone. I apologize ;;
WARNINGS: Swearing; Violence
"I bet you're wondering what I'm doing here." The bank robber - his name was Ryan, you remembered, and he was a pretty decent guy, just down on his luck too many times - nodded and mumbled behind the collect of irridecent that coated his mouth. You propped your foot on the side of another robber - Julian, Julius, Juli-something, he never really talked that much to you - as he tried to squirm towards his fallen weapon. "It's weird, right?" you mused, "One day, I'm the Black Cat, Nueva York's greatest burglar, the next I'm--" you cut yourself off as you hooked a foot around Juli-such-and-such's hip and tossed him across the bank floor. He released a muffled shout.
"Okay, so, what do you think of Moon Weaver?" you asked, "Too much?"
"Ain't there a Moon Knight?" someone in the bank quipped.
You twisted around, snapping your fingers down on your new, and very much stolen, web shooter. The man crumbled back against a cabinet. He was a banker, and annoying during robberies.
"I didn't ask you? I still don't know if you're gonna be saved by me yet," you replied. You turned back to Ryan. "No Moon Weaver?" you asked.
He shook his head.
"Damn," you sighed, "Anyway, I was telling this to my therapist up on the seventh floor - you should see her by the way, she's great - and we were going over how this started, but since you so rudely interrupted my therapy session, you get to hear it." You crouched in front of him. "Don't worry, you're not gonna remember a thing anyway. I'll make sure of it."
Ryan didn't reply.
You stood back up. "So, let's start at the beginning." You waved your hand as you paced away to another bank robber, kneeling to scoop up his limp ankle. "Remember that heist I was doing a few months ago? Priceless heirloom, lots of money, you know how it is. I was on the job, like normal, when that fucking Spiderman shows up." You dropped the man's ankle and crouched in front of Ryan again. "Have you ever seen him without his mask? He's kinda hot, but in that infuriating "I really wanna punch you" kinda way?"
Ryan merely stared at you. He wasn't a very good audience.
You huffed. "Anyway. He showed up, we did the whole song and dance - the chase, the quips, the obvious flirting with a good layer of sexual tension - and I give him the slip." You frowned at your own memory of that night, planting your fists on your hips. "Except, I didn't. He caught me around the corner, and we went down, grappling. I think I hit him a little too hard in a place that I shouldn't've - that's rude in a fight, you know - because he yelled and suddenly bit my shoulder." You turned back around. "He bit me! Like a four year old!"
You thought Ryan mumbled something that sounded like, "Seriously?" but it was too hard to make out.
So, you replied with, "Yeah! And I went home, and I started feeling weird." Then, you crouched again, your fingers dancing over your knees. "And you know how we all kinda know that he's a weird little freak that's, like, part spider, or werewolf, or vampire, or something freaky? Yeah, I think whatever it is gave me powers," you whispered.
Ryan's eyes went wide.
You shrugged and stood, cupping your fingers around his head. "Yeah, it was weird. And now, here we are!" Your fingers tickled as a surge of electricity arched away from them and through his skull. "Not that you'll remember it," you mumbled.
The robber thrashed as you stepped away, then slumped to the ground. You watch him for a moment, frowning, waiting to make sure he was still breathing. When he groaned, you stepped back.
Then, you snapped your fingers, turning around to face the whole group of thieves you had piled in a corner. "Oh, what about Night Spider? That's pretty cool!" you asked.
"It's pretty," came a delayed reply. You looked over your shoulder. It was a customer, one of the few that was still curled up on the floor.
You smiled, and bowed at the waist. "Why thank you," you preened, standing, and waving your arm towards the door, "What're you all still waiting around here for? Get outta here!" You watched as the customers scrambled to their feet. "And tell the cops it was Night Spider that helped you!" You backed away, eyeing an exit you normally took to escape a bank with a similar layout. "Not Spiderman."
You bolted as the cops rushed into the building.
Miguel watched from atop the roof across the street, an annoyed scowl etched deep into his face. He knew he shouldn't have bitten you that night - but how could he have known you'd have such a reaction?!
And now, you went from being a pain in his side to a fucking problem.
He pinched the bridge of his nose and groaned, swearing under his breath.
Lyla would never let him live it down.

Stay [h.j] [A]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The repercussion of actions always seem to catch up to those who think they’re usually in the clear , those who hide their lies in such pretty disguises craddliding and nurturing them to their best capabilities to ensure they never see the light of day , that they remain a secret but as your hands wrapped tighter around the proclien mug , it’s auburn coloured liquid swishing at the tension it became clear that no amount of smoke nor mirrors could stop the truth from surfacing.
Changbins eyes scanned over your face , the bewildered angry look across your features softening into one of hurt as silence fell upon the two of you “ look yn..I didn’t want you to find out this way , we I mean the guys and I didn’t think he’d take things this far it was just a pointless joke really “ he shrugged guilt slipping from his lips as words spiled coating Your heart in malice
“A joke ..” you mumbled his eyes darting to meet your slightly reddened ones “ yea.. it was funny at first but we all feel bad, he honestly didn’t think you would be that easy and -“ your chair scrapped along the flooring of the quiet cafe cutting changbin off as you rose from your seat “thank you for telling me “ you offered himself spring up watching as you walked out of the cafe into the gloomy afternoon haze covering your figure in the mist that arose
It would be anti climatic to walk straight into your shared apartment and dive at Han head first bombarding him with questions but as the evening wore on and your boyfriend still not insight ‘anticlimatisism’ didn’t seem to be the worst idea . Your head hung low tired and worn out from the tears that seemed to never stop , cascading down your cheeks now burning against your raw skin a clear indicator of how long your been crying and your fingers flesh prominent and oozing as you sat at the front door awaiting the arrival of the man who the world seemed to have turned against you . His shoes were light approaching you like an abandoned cat left out in the cold by it’s prior owners , alone and lost your eyes meeting his heavier ones , ones that seemed so full of love with how gently they would take in your body , memorising each divot and curve made your heartache , bile forming in your mouth at the mere thought .
“Yn ..” he began his words soft and cautious “ baby I..” his hand hovering over your shoulder too afraid to lay a finger on you “ 2 years ..” you spoke your voice rough from the lack of use “ we’ve been together for two years I thought we were doing great
You shuffled now standing to meet Han at eye level “ we are ..” he spoke “ no you’re a liar ..this
“ your arms gestured around your apartment “ is just a facade it’s not real .. , you’ve spent two years running a joke between you and your friends that you couldn’t have been bothered to let me in on “your voice causing han to whince “it’s not what you think yn ..” he reasoned “ really? It’s not , then what exactly is it because to me you were dared to ask me out and some how managed to convince yourself to see how long it would take before you finally gave in and threw in the towel “ you said your words harsh casting silence over the apartment , your fragmented breathing and the hum of the refrigerator filling the air “ I didn’t convince myself to see how long it would last ..I do really love you” Han spoke his words setting you aback as you stared at him his eyes darting over your face in hope of reading your emotions “ I don’t believe you “
You spat “ I don’t believe that you love me because if you did , if you ever did the moment you knew you did you would have told me about your stupid bet “ you shouted angry tears falling as you heaved “ you don’t love me and I’m certain you never did “ Hans eyes widened “ don’t do that “ he scoffed “ yes I am terrible for going through with this entire thing , I know I am every time I look at you I know how terrible I am , everytime
I touch you , everytime you smile it reminds me of how much of an idiot I was for agreeing to go through with it . It makes me feel sick , ashamed like I’m about to lose the most important thing to me and hell I might just but “ he stopped to catch his breath running his shaky hands through his hair “ don’t question my love and make me out to seem like someone who has never done anything more than give you their all “ he spoke “ your all .. for two years was your all never being around when I needed you to be? Always too busy too preoccupied never having enough hours in the day? Was that your all ?“ you retorted “was your all the snide remarks your friends would pass the knowing looks between them everytime we went out together , everytime I held your hand , called you mine was that your all? “ you scoffed backing away from han “ if that was your all ..if that’s how much your willing to give and how much your willing to take then ..there’s nothing left here .” You spoke your words quiet as you made your way to the front door “ no” Han spoke his hand encircling your wrist stopping you in your tracks “let go.. please let me go” you spoke “ no “ Han insisted “ stay ..please “ he began “ stay and shout at me , stay and fight with me stay and call me names and break my heart if you must but please just stay .” You arm now slack against your body as you turned to face him “ stay and let me explain that I do love you , More than words can describe more than they let on , that I’m able to show . Stay and let me fix what I’ve caused , because without you “ his grip on your arm tightened “without you I’m nothing without you I know the sun won’t rise and my coffee will be more bitter , I know that without you I won’t smile and words will be harsher without you .. I know that I would have lost the greatest accomplishment I have ever attained so please ..” Han gently pulled you towards him his hand coming up to cup the sides of your cheeks “ please stay “ his thumbs wiping away your tears your hands now on his “ I can’t ..” you spoke words quiet as tears brimmed Hans eyes as you two stood time threatening to ruin what could be the last notions of your love

Sunyi's First Noise
[Koh "Sunyi" Tay Koon & Imulok "Imp" Kanun]
Summary: A hustler finally met his match in form of a kid(?) with a spider bot.
A/N: FRIENDS OCS WOOOOOOOOO!!! MALAYSIAN OPS GUYS ITS REAL NOW (Credits to @xxtempera for lending me them oh my god IM SO HYPED)
Tay Koon Koh isn’t a righteous person. That’s a plain fact.
Sure, he doesn’t litter his trash often. He has respect for his elders like many Chinese-descent Malays would. His work technically doesn’t involve anything illegal.
But sometimes, a hustler still needs to eat, like all humans would.
His usual options for this are either buying a small portion of stir-fried noodles from the small mom-and-pop stall near his place or stealing some snacks from an unmanned convenience store a bit further away.
Unfortunately, today, he chooses the latter option.
Being a hustler means scrounging for anything that he could use to survive. Whether it’s electro and engineering books that he borrowed from local libraries, to diving inside multiple junkyards for some metal scraps and usable electronic compounds that he could salvage.
The first piece of electronics he managed to make with his current skills and knowledge was a radio. Then he dismantled it and formed it into what he called a “Portable Jammer,” which he used to assist in stealing things from shops with security cameras and slip past the store’s anti-theft detector.
It’s not illegal if he doesn’t get caught, anyway. The store is a big one, and its sales margin wouldn’t drop even if it lost an item or two every week.
Food shouldn’t be gatekeep. It’s a necessity for humans to survive. Logically, it’s morally correct to steal food from the rich if you’re low on money.
With the jammer snugged nicely under his jacket, Tay Koon begins his mission to grab some snacks for the day and to check if his beloved gadget works as intended.
His eyes carefully scan around the open aisles to check for the employees.
No person in sight for now. He takes a deep breath.
There was a TV hanging on top of the ceiling near the entrance, viewing multiple aisles from the eyes of the store’s CCTVs. A couple of the screens seem to show statics only, and he grins.
His gadget still works perfectly, as usual.
The jammer becomes somewhat of a body warmer inside the inner pocket of the jacket, but he knows that if he takes his time too long, it’ll burn his skin.
He struts casually towards the snacks aisle, eyeing rows of packaged peanuts. He’s in the mood for the roasted garlic-flavoured peanuts. It pairs well with a cold glass of sweet iced tea for casual snacking while tinkering with electronics late at night. Or should he opt for battered spicy-coated peanuts—
Click-clacks.
Click-click-click-clacks.
The sudden soft whirring noise from under him almost makes him stumble down and sprint away, but he gets himself to stand on his ground and quickly examine the situation.
A small spider robot gently taps its metal legs on the ceramic floor. Its camera lens is currently facing him.
Anxiety washes him over like a bucket of ice water. He takes a small step backward, and the spider bot follows suit.
Is this the store’s new security camera? Should he run? No, running would’ve garnered more unwanted attention, and he doesn’t plan on getting caught just for this. If he quickly throws the bot away, would he be charged with property damage? Lawyers these days are expensive, and his elders wouldn’t be able to pay for any of them.
“Bejir…why is the camera screen has full static? It shouldn’t be out of boundaries…”
Tay Koon freezes on the spot. His gaze locks onto a tuft of messy jet-black hair that pops into his view at the corner of his eyes, right behind the aisle across him. Their footsteps are slow as if they’re currently afraid of crushing something.
He stares at the head, then at the bot below him. The tiny bot that he could’ve accidentally crushed if he took one more step. It tilts its “head” camera a bit, as if it’s curious at his behaviour.
The footsteps finally come to a stop at the same time as the figure stands right in front of him, revealing themselves to be an androgynous-looking person, leaning toward a more masculine look with the mullet hairstyle. They’re wearing some kind of glove with a small screen mounted onto it. Tay Koon can hear a familiar static noise coming from it, a sign of his jammer’s work.
Is this person also testing their gadget?
He doesn’t realize how short this person is in front of him, now holding the spider-looking bot and carefully inspecting it. Hell, he doesn’t even realize how they got in front of him without noticing.
Is it his overthinking again? God, this is a bad habit of his.
“And you. What are you doing here?”
The mentioned man once again freezes in place, his dark eyes meeting the other’s own ones. Dark bags under their eyes and a flat yet uncaring expression.
“Um…” He rubs the back of his neck. “I’m looking around… just sightseeing, I guess…?”
The other raises an eyebrow, unconvinced. “Uh-huh. What about that bag of nuts that you’re holding?”
His eyes snap at the small bag of nuts in his hand. The one that he was ready to snatch and book when he got bamboozled by that small spider bot. He clicks his tongue in response.
“Well, this is the souvenir…?”
“There’s no free souvenir, dumbass. Awak kira aku bodo kah?”
Well, seems like he can’t convince this person.
He bites his lips gently in frustration, puts the peanut bag back into the aisle, and walks away from the store, pocketing both his hands inside his jacket pocket. There goes his plan of getting a snack for tonight—
CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK—
The spider bot, which was supposed to be with the mullethead, somehow found its way out and chased him down at a speed faster than him, the taps of its legs hitting the floor became somewhat of a terrifying sound. He almost screams out, scrambling backward and trying his best to avoid stepping the small bugger.
In the midst of his panic, however, Tay Koon can see the mullethead observing from afar, looking amused. Their tablet still produces the hissing noise, so how does this one still move freely ??
“Hey, get this thing away from me!!”
His panic response only got a small grin from the mullethead. “Well, try to outrun my bot!” They let out a chuckle. “I’d be more impressed if you can outsmart it, even! Its AI can recognize its target from afar by their clothes and running pattern.”
Panic noise echoes around the store, along with an amused laughter.
Tay Koon had never thought that this encounter would change the trajectory of his life for good.

Part 1 | Part 2 (you are here!) | Part 3 | Part 4
“So you’re telling me,” Pearl giggled, trying to speak through her amusement, “that you two–don’t laugh at me, I’m serious!-- that you two got kidnapped, and you,” She pointed to Scar with her stick, a half-toasted marshmallow impaled on the end, “convinced them you were soulbound, which saved you from turning into drumsticks,” the stick jerked over to Grian and the marshmallow slipped a little from the force, now dangling onto the tip with and half-hearted corner, slowly oozing it’s way to the floor, “and the experience actually soulbound you?”
“I– well, what else was I supposed to do?” Scar stammered, a grin cracking his face almost in two. Grian cackled, falling over onto him, knocking the marshmallow into his hair with an impressive display of balance, his feet flailing, hands clutching his stomach, lower end nearly slipping off the one of the logs they had dragged around the fire earlier.
“Maybe–” Grian snorted, pausing to compose himself while Scar grabbed his shoulder, doubling over, “--maybe. Don’t! Fall in love with the bird!” He leaned back, clumsily squirming so he was leaning his back on Scar’s front. It was quite an effort, as Scar was still struggling to breathe around his laughter.
“I couldn’t help it! You’re just too cute!” He hugged Grian to his chest, resting his chin in his messy hair.
“Scar! Stop that!” Grian’s cheeks burned red, the blush only half-masked by the low lighting. “I am not cute!”
“You’re a little cute.”
“Pearl! Don’t join his side!,” He grabbed Scar’s hand in his own, “See, you’ve even turned my sister against me!”
“They’re not wrong, though,” Mumbo called from where he lounged by their cave entrance, keeping watch on the surrounding forest through the blizzard flurries, his back to the fire, “You are pretty adorable, especially when you– oh, look, he’s doing it now! When you get all annoyed, and your face scrunches, and–,” He ducked, dodging a marshmallow viscously targeted at his head, “-- And your fathers get all poofy–,” He dodged again, laughing, “Stop wasting the marshmallows! There better be some left when my shift is done!”
“Impossible!” Impulse grabbed the bag, snatching four marshmallows and spearing them on the tip of one of Scar’s arrows, “Knights, new mission: eat all of the marshmallows in the next 10 minutes!” He tossed the bag over the fire, across the circle to where Pearl sat on her tree stump. She was wrapped in Mumbo’s coat, which miraculously didn’t have any marshmallow bits on it, a seemingly-anti-marshmallow-debris aura surrounding Pearl and about two feet on either side of her.
“Aye, aye!” Pearl saluted him, catching the bag and loading another marshmallow onto her stick.
“Oh– You jerk!” Mumbo glanced away from the dark forest in front of him, towards Impulse, “Treason!”
Impulse raised a fist, turning as well, “I serve the king!”
“I don’t,” A hooded figure, previously hidden in the shadow of a tree, stepped into the light, brushing snow from their shoulders.
“I– WAAAAAAH–!” Pearl yelped, slipping backwards off her stump and landing shoulders-first on the cave floor. She reached for a sword that wasn’t there before glancing up, suddenly acutely aware of her party’s casual lack of armor. All but Mumbo, on guard, and Scar, who didn’t wear much armor as a marksman anyways, had settled down and disrobed their heavy guards and weapons.
“Oh, hi, Cub!” Scar called.
Mumbo held out a hand, fistbumping Cub as he passed, “That was a good one, we finally got someone!” His mustache wiggled mischievously.
“You two–” Pearl hoisted herself up onto her elbows, “-- are spoons.”
“Yep!” Cub slid his hood off, shaking the length of his white cape to get the remaining snow off. It wasn’t a knight’s cape, but it did bear the crest of the king on the lapel. Several potion bottles clinked under his light blue robes. “You the newbie?”
“Yeah, uh. I’m Dame Moon, or Pearl. Boatem sect, Eighth season, this idiot’s” she nudged Grian with a foot, “--older sister.”
“Cub. Nice to meet you.” He turned back to the cave entrance, beckoning with a gloved hand. “X!”
“Heyo,” a shape in the dark responded.
“Stop that!” Pearl, from her spot on the floor, startled again. Grian grinned at her.
“L.”
“I hate you,”
“Awww, you love me.”
Pearl rolled her eyes, hauling herself back onto her seat. The figure in the dark ducked into the cave, stooping a little to fit. He kept his hood up, unlike Cub, but his cloak required no brushing; even in the dying firelight, the knights recognised it as a mage cloak, specifically one for a bone mage. The garment, made of a black fabric as deep as the void, was lined with white runic patterns that met and convoluted on various points just above the fade-point– the part where the cape began dissolving into mist, gradually becoming more shadow than fabric. The hood, which sat low over the mage’s eyes, altered specifically for this mage, was similarly filigreed, with long slits down its length that revealed a pale white inner lining, a cowl resting over the lower half of his face. “‘Sup.”
“Hey, X!”
“Impy.” he nodded. His voice was soft, a contrast to his looming figure and noticeable, gigantic iron cavalry sword strapped to his side.
“Impulse, you know Isuma?” Mumbo shifted, turning so he could both see out into the forest and into the mouth of the cave.
“Impy?” Scar mouthed at Impulse.
“Shut up,” He mouthed back. “Yeah, I worked with him a while ago, slew a dragon. You still got that egg, X?”
“Hatched last winter. She’s doing well, hanging around the Lunar Mountains for now.”
“Nice.”
Cub stepped forward, “We’re here because of a rogue mage that’s been terrorizing the locals over the mountains. They’re probably a bonemage, like X here, but we’re not certain. They could be a lost mobborn too, like an illage-humanr or piglin-human mix, something with supernatural strength and speed. Not one of us, though,” He nodded to Scar, “I checked.”
“So you’ve met them?” Scar leaned forward, lifting his chin off Grian’s head, “What bonemage is powerful enough to fight off a vexborn alone?”
“Not alone– it was a vexborn, a bonemage, and a small but enthusiastic dragon named Suzie. And we’re working on that second part. In fact, that's why we’re here! And for your marshmallows, of course.” He stepped towards Pearl, who offered the bag of sweets to X and him.
“How magical are we talking here? They would have had to have a decent amount for you to assume a born or mage, but is it more innate or drawn from something?” Pearl warily glanced to Grian, determinedly keeping her voice nonchalant. They hadn’t teamed up in their Watcher forms for a long time, but if this person was as powerful as Cub made them seem, they might be forced to.
“X, you got this one, you got closer.” Cub’s response was muffled by an indeterminable number of marshmallows in his mouth.
X stepped forward, shifting the low trim of his hood out of his face with an annoyed flick of his head. The firelight flickered over his face, casting shadows that danced from the curves of his cowl up to his eyes, which flashed in the night. “Oh, sure! I got the impression that it was more innate, nothing like a Bonemage, where we have to borrow power from whoever’s around us. But, however they functioned, they weren’t really like any born I’d met,” He swiveled a little, glancing down to retrieve a book from his pocket. “I’ve been doing some research, and there’s a possibility– only a possibility at this point, so there’s no need to panic– that this individual could be a Watcher.”
Pearl again glanced to Grian. The Order probably knew about Grian’s Watcher form, but Pearl had neglected to tell them– and the Order didn’t take kindly to being lied to. She had been able to mask her magic with the help of an inhibitor necklace, hidden under her tunic, but nothing would be able to mask the look of a biblically-accurate sphere of eyes and rays of divine light. Probably. She’d burn that bridge when she got to it.
“So let’s say we’ve got a Watcher on our hands,” Impulse leaned in, “because we both know you wouldn’t have called us if they were anything else. Or brought in Isuma, for that matter. What sent them off the edge? And what can we do about it? We could take this person down without force if we can snap them out of whatever triggered them,”
Grian nodded. “Watchers nearly never go full-angel-mode unless we’re provoked. If we’re dealing with an open, full Watcher, something bigger is almost certainly happening behind the scenes that we have to be ready for.”
“That was my thought, too,” X sighed.
“So what do we do about it?” Mumbo said, still peering out into the dark, “Or, what is it that we’re dealing with?”
“That’s why I’m here. There’s something stirring here, something old. The bones of the earth herself are shifting. I fear something may awake,” He gently grabbed a marshmallow and chomped into it with gusto, ignoring the tension in the air, “and me personally, I don’t want to encounter something that can vaporize us by thinking about it.”
“I’ve noticed that too,” Grian reached into his pockets, taking out a mossy stone, “The grass has been telling me her secrets.”
“... the grass has what?”
“The grasses hold the key, I’m telling you. There's this tall grass, one I’ve been searching for, one that the trees whisper about when you walk past them really quietly. They hold knowledge, these grasses.”
“Grian, have you been talking to the grass?”
“Yes?” Silence.
“... uh. Ok. Let’s table that revelation for now,” Impulse sideyed him, “Game plan. Do we go for the Watcher–”
“--Probably Watcher–”
“--Yes, thank you X. Do we go for the Probably Watcher, or for the ancient stirrings of the world itself, first?”
“I’m going to be honest, neither of those sound like good options,” Scar wrapped his arms more tightly around Grian’s torso. “I’m more worried about– Well. If one Watcher got triggered out by this great stirring, who’s to say that it won’t trigger another? Is it the best plan to get close to this situation, knowing we could make it worse?”
Cub glanced at X, his eyes shifting between him and the knights’ seats. “That’s… the difficult part of this. We need your help, but we can’t get any other Watchers too close. Gods know we don’t want to fight anyone who gets taken over by this thing,” He paused meaningfully, looking Grian in the eyes, “we need the knights, but we need anyone fey out of action. That includes me,” he turned to Scar, “you, your soulbound,” to Pearl, “and any other Watchers who may or may not be in the room with us right now.”
“No.”
“I– no? Mumbo?”
“If they’re out, I’m out. I don’t know about the others here, but I took an oath with the Order to stick together.” He looked at Cub, defiant, but his eyes softened at the worry on his old friend’s face. “I’m not fighting for something that’s going to put my fa– my friends– in danger.”
Pearl nodded. “I’m with him.”
“I’m out too. We fight together, or not at all,” Impulse said. He eyed Cub. “And more of us are fey here than you seem to think. You’ve managed to approach the most fay-filled section of the Order that there is, dude.”
Cub sighed. “I guessed as much. You’ll have to investigate the backside of this, then, if you’re still down to help. Find who this person is, what they want, what’s causing all of this, while X keeps them from destroying the entire countryside.”
“Will you be able to hold your own?” Pearl plunked another marshmallow onto her stick, “You already said this person managed to hold you two off, how will you keep them back?”
“I should be okay,” X said. “I’ve already messaged a few mages from sects in the area. We should end up with one of each of the branches, if everything goes smoothly, with an extra Stonemage to spare.”
Impulse stood, marshmallows abandoned. The arrow he had them speared on was smoldering. He ignored it. “Good luck then, X.” He shook his hand. “And you, Cub. We’re a call away if things go bottoms-up.”
Cub smiled, adjusted his glasses. “You always are. Best of luck to you, knights. We’ll be off, we have some Stone–” he glanced at X, who shook his head, “Soul–”
“Nope.”
“-- Earth?”
“Bingo.”
“Yep, Earthmages to meet.”

FFXIVWrite 2023 DAY 7 - NOISOME (MAKE-UP)
Z'rhiki comes back from a hard day on the first, reeking, and indulges in some stream-of-consciousness musings on one of her many insecurities.
Rating: General Genre: Introspection, fluff Characters: Z'rhiki Irhi (Warrior of Light) Words: 1,287 Content Warnings: None
Z’rhiki’s pack hit the floor with a dull thump. Even without it, her shoulders felt heavy. Another long day. Well, technically the same long day, depending on where in Norvrandt you were. The sun still never set over Kholusia. She felt damp and grimy all over – her sweat had seeped into the cloth base of her armor, which now clung awkwardly to her skin.
At least the Master of Suites had been kind enough to prepare a hot bath for her.
As she reached under one arm to loosen one of her pauldrons, she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. Her reflection’s shoulders rose as she heaved a sigh. She looked awful. Her armor was splattered with mud, blood, and the uncomfortably viscous white goo spewed by Ahm Arang’s lightwarden. It mingled with dust in her hair, leaving it matted and sticking up awkwardly in some places, while plastered to her head in others. Dirt had dulled the polished metal of her sabatons to a matte gray.
Even beyond all of the filth, she looked tired. Haggard. She’d never been strikingly beautiful, but with the tug of the dark circles under her eyes and the oily layer of dried sweat coating her skin she looked...
She rubbed furiously at her face to at least try and wipe away the freckles of dried blood.
The heavy armor she wore certainly did nothing to help matters, and she continued to fumble with her pauldron, though her mounting frustration only served to make her fingers slip. After a considerable struggle she was finally divested of it and moved to work on its counterpart. She had never liked heavy armor. Even the most flattering armor she could find was uncomfortable and unwieldy. Beyond the fact that it was heavy, hot, and trapped in body odor (which she was sure she would get a noseful of when she finally got the damned stuff off), with her short stature it made her look square, boxy and, if she was being honest, a little ridiculous. The huge decorative pauldrons that seemed to adorn every design came halfway to her cheekbones so that she looked like a child wearing an ill-fitting costume. The cuirass obscured her form and always seemed slightly too wide, and the sabatons and grieves were always crafted a bit too long.
She could almost hear the voices of countless companions chiding her - reminding her that how armor looked was of vanishing concern compared to how it functioned, and that someone whose fighting style tbrought them within the reach of the enemy could scarce afford to forgo protection.
heir echo in her ears only served to make her mood cloudier.
Maybe she needed to learn a new fighting style - something fast and light like Alisaie’s rapier, or elegant and magical like Y’shtola’s magic. At least something that didn’t involve becoming splattered with blood and viscera. She’d considered it before, even sometimes wished she’d endured the pervasive anti-miqo'te sentiments of Gridania’s Archer's Guild and taken up the bow. But these days leaving behind her greatsword made her feel... lonely, somehow.
She reached behind her to unclasp and unlace the hard leather portions ofher chest piece but paused, scowling at the red brick walls. She really hoped that the Crystal Exarch wasn’t watching, as Ardbert had implied he occasionally did. At least the phantom Warrior of Light had the decency to make himself scarce while she slept or bathed. Her faith that the Exarch would show such respect for her privacy, however, was limited. She’d thought about bathing elsewhere, perhaps in a public bath, but decided that if he could spy on her in her inn room using the powers of the Occular, he could probably spy on her anywhere in the Crystarium. Oh well. It wasn’t like he actually saw her when he looked at her anyway. He probably the vision of a statuesque valkyrie, serious and dignified. The thought almost made her laugh.
She wondered if anyone would ever build a statue of her. It was probably vain to consider, but it seemed like the sort of thing people did with heroes. If they did, she thought, it probably wouldn’t look anything like her, and she couldn’t tell if that made her happy or sad. At least she would be taller. That was heartening. Hells, they would probably just carve a helmet on it so that everyone could maintain their personal imaginings of the Warrior of Light’s beatific face.
Resigning herself to the potential that she was being secretly observed, she continued undressing, dropping each piece she removed unceremoniously onto the floor. She would take care of it later, when she felt less disgusting. As she had expected, the more armor she peeled away the stronger the smell of her own sweat became, mingling with the scent of old blood and dap leather. She wrinkled her nose, glad that she had asked Feo Ul to bring her a bottle of her favorite scented soap before they had ascended to the position of Titania.
Her reflection was a little less depressing free of armor, but not much. She still looked grimy, exhausted, and haunted. To be fair, she was all of those things, she just wished she didn’t look it.
Her mind drifted back to when she was a child, listening to Rakoko’s fairy tales and imagining herself being invited to some fancy gathering, like a masquerade. She loved imagining what type of dress or fancy jacket she would wear, how she would style her hair. Looking at herself now, it was hard to imagine anyone inviting inside their house, let alone to a party.
Then the fond memories of childhood were replaced by decidedly less fond memories of Magnai Oronir.
"The woman I seek is of the dusk ─ a gentle, ethereal maiden. A dancer in the morning mist. You are a warrior of the Steppe ─ fierce and brutal, conquerors of magicked stone and steel. Ethereal you are not.”
Just thinking about it made her tail puff up with annoyance. She made a mental note to devote some time later to thinking up ways to torment Magnai the next time she saw him.
He’s right, though.
She shook her head as if to clear the thought from it.
She was invited to things – celebrations, dances, banquets with foreign dignitaries – but always in her capacity as the Warrior of Light. Most people wanted to show her off to friends and rivals, preferably in gleaming armor, standing stoically for people to admire. No one asked her there so they could dance or laugh or share a drink, and consequently such affairs ended up being unbearably dull. She often stood silently, listening to Alphinaud charm the nobles or diplomats with his eloquence and idealism while she desperately fought back the urge to cause trouble or to get drunk and embarrass herself.
Not exactly like Rakoko’s stories.
She shook her head and tore her eyes away from the mirror. She was just tired – she only ever thought like this when she was tired. What she needed was a warm bath, a hot meal, and a soft bed. Everything would look a little brighter in the morning. Now free from the confines of her armor and undergarments, she lowered herself into the wooden tub that had been brought in, making sure her back was to the mirror. Almost immediately, she felt a bit better. Her muscles began to uncoil themselves and it was easier to relax. Closing her eyes, she allowed herself to feel the grime dissipating. She let the steam from the water bathe her face, breathed in the scent of her favorite soap, and slowly began to feel a bit more like herself.

Hunting Jackals
(A Wayward Tides Story by Mod Nightmare)
Jack Spicer and DT! Hunter form an unlikely friendship, and it begins with trespassing.
You know, of all the things or people Jack expected to come and bother him that Friday night, it certainly wasn’t that sour-looking guy he saw when he first met King. He just... waltzed in through the lab door like he owned the place!
Especially since it was a heavy duty door, and LOCKED.
“Nice place,” he hummed airily, seemingly oblivious to Jack’s annoyance with the sudden intrusion, “I can appreciate some Techno-Gothic decor~”
“Do you just not respect the sanctity of a locked door or something?” the redhead asked, eye twitching as the two made eye contact for the first time. The blonde simply shrugged, a lot more laid back and unbothered than Jack remembered, despite how short the meeting had been. “How the fuck did you even get in here?! The lab is locked down at night, and I’m pretty sure you got the message I had about my bots dishing out the consequences of breaking in here without an emergency!”
“I stole your key-card during dinner~” the blonde cackled as he produced a VERY familiar square of plastic that sent Jack digging through his trench coats MANY pockets. However, just as he looked up to demand the card back (with excessive expletives) the blonde was already right in front of him, offering the plastic square back without him having to request it. “I didn’t really need this to get in anyway. I just figured I might as well impress the self-proclaimed “Evil Boy Genius” who makes the robots around here with a little mischief of my own. Make our meeting a little more interesting that way, ya know?”
“… you came in here with King, we HAVE met before,” Jack replied with the kind of intonation that made the statement sound a bit like a question as he took the card back. The blond blinked twice before tugging at his forelock and scowling.
“Right, I’m still wearing the old “Puppet Boy” look, which, by the way-“ Jack flinched as the shadows of the room streaked across the floor to envelop the stranger, before falling away to show a drastically different appearance, “-SO not me now, it honestly kind of disgusts me how I used to walk around like that. I looked like I belonged in a prep school, ick.”
Jack blinked several times, taking in the new appearance of the shapeshifting stranger, before “You didn’t change your face” slipped out.
“Well, yeah, I’m still technically the same person, just from a different timeline,” the other boy shrugged, waving his hand as he continued, “I guess you can call me Darkstalker if you want, it is my villain name after all”
“Wait, you’re evil?” Jack asked excitedly, because holy FUCK the constant stream of goody-two-shoes heroic types could wear on an evil genius. His visitor smirked with something akin to pride.
“More like “anti-authority”, but same difference,” Darkstalker chuckled, leaning back and catching himself on the table behind him with one hand. A purple monkey tail flicking into view as he drew a circle in the air with his free hand, producing an honest to god WANTED poster. It unfurled and displayed a stylized drawing of the smaller boy, along with a rather impressive bounty. “I’m a bit partial to arson, but general mischief is my favorite pastime overall.”
“YO, that depiction of you is sick,” Jack complimented as he took the poster from the air to get a closer look, “The black flames really make you look badass!”
“O-oh that’s nothing special for me, just a bit of shadowmancy,” Darkstalker stuttered a bit, before summoning a small flicker of black flames, edged by a glorious gothic purple.
“Sooo cool!” Jack pumped excitedly, reaching out to touch the obsidian fire, only for Darkstalker to immediately snuffed it out.
“Ack! Hooker rules!” Darkstalker yelped, snapping his hand to his chest.
“”No kissing on the mouth?”” Jack snickered, making the other boy blush a deep red and shake his hand dismissively.
“No, no!” he squeaked, looking flustered before correcting and composing himself. “STRIPPER rules! I meant to say stripper!”
“Ahh, “Look, don’t touch”, gotcha,” Jack chuckled, holding a hand out, “You’re my kind of crazy, dude. You need a hand with any scheming, I’m your guy”
Darkstalker seemed surprised by the offer, as if he hadn’t really expected this kind of outcome from the encounter. Instead, he shook his head, and accepted the extended hand as a mischievous smirk spread across his face.
“I’ll be sure to take you up on that offer, friend”
…………….
It turned out Jack shared a lot of classes with Darkstalker, and that’s where he learned the guys proper name was “Hunter”. When questioned, he simply replied that it was fine to refer to him a such when they were alone, but if his doppelgänger was around, Darkstalker would need to be used to avoid confusion.
The idea made sense to Jack, so he went with it.
Following their discussion was the fastest week Jack ever had attending the school. Hunter was a goddamn delight to sit next to, fiddling with different types of magic whenever a lecture or class activity got particularly boring. The evil boy genius was exposed to some very interesting spells during these times, including one that could make semi-conscious minions out of purple goop that the violette had smuggled into class the previous day. In their exchanged notes, Hunter explained that these minions were called “Abominations” but while they were useful for some aspects of combat and petty work, synthesizing good quality “goo” took up a lot of valuable time. This severely limited the amount of practice he could get in and left him relying on other forms of magic.
It was conversations like these that found Jack in the school’s kitchen for the first time in- well, ever,- during the middle of the day.
“So if I could manage to synthesize enough of this “Abomination Goo” you could make me a mindless slime slave?” the redhead mused, stroking his chin as he held the vial of purple slime up to the light. He also dodged a mixing bowl that had been thrown by one of the more violent cooks in the kitchen.
“Well, I don’t know if I’m skilled enough to make a more permanent one, seeing as my specialties are in Oracle and Illusions, not Abominations. I could probably manage something that might last a few days at a time with my current skill level. I’d have to re-stabilize it after a while though,” the violette mused. He snatched one of the knives thrown near his head and using it to dice up some chives, quickly going back to the stove once that task had been finished. He seemed a little lost in thought. “What’s with the desire for a goo slave anyway? Your robots are way more efficient.”
“Umm, what evil genius WOULDN’T want a purple goo slave to do their bidding?” the redhead argued back, making the violette chuckle as he pulled down a tray and filled three bowls with noodles and broth. “Awful hungry today, are we?”
“Oh, no, Edric is gonna be joining us for lunch,” Hunter hummed, drawing a circle in the air to make the dishes wash themselves while he garnished the warm bowls with chives, before freezing up a bit as a thought occurred to him. “You’d be okay with that, right? Buddah, I totally forgot to ask-“
“It’s fine, Hunter,” Jack chuckled, amused by the way that even the violette’s studded ears turned crimson when he was embarrassed, “Though, I wouldn’t be opposed to a pudding cup as compensation-“
“You drive a hard bargain, Spicer,” Hunter chuckled, drawing another circle in the air. Jack was offered a rather fancy looking chocolate pudding in a wine glass, topped with whipped cream and two pieces of dark chocolate stabbed into the side. “I tend to make fancy desserts from scratch when I can’t sleep, anyway. The community fridge is chock full of those from last night.”
“I WAS WONDERING WHERE THOSE CAME FROM!”
………….
Sunday came around, and it found Hunter stretched out over a rather uncomfortable looking armchair playing a Switch while Jack worked on his latest project. The violette may have looked completely enraptured by his game, but the constant stream of chatter between the two teens proved otherwise.
“Man everyone in your world just sounds like an asshole. Who the fuck drags someone off the back of their ship for three miles in frozen waters just because they find you “annoying!?”” Hunter asked, purple tail tip twitching in a very well masked fury. “Buddha’s sake, some heroes those fucks are. Even I had better sense than that when transporting the “enemy”, I just tied them up and secured them somewhere!”
“Apparently being associated monks absolves them of “minor transgressions”,” Jack shrugged, flicking his googles down and activating a blowtorch.
“You could have DIED from that stunt though!?” Hunter shouted over the noise, but Jack simply shrugged again. “I’m surprised you never stabbed one of those guys, just out of self defense, damn.”
“I mean, I wanted knife throwing lessons as a kid, but mom decided figure skating would be more useful,” Jack replied, flicking the blowtorch back off, setting it aside and picking up a socket wrench in its place. “Turned her juicer into a robot for that one.”
“Pfft, WOW, your mom doesn’t know you at all,” Hunter chuckled, flipping over onto his stomach, lowered the switch and crossed his arms over the side of the chair. “Though, if you’re still up for learning knife throwing, my dad did give me a few lessons, I could probably teach you a little bit on the subject.”
“Why did your dad teach you how to throw knifes???” Jack questioned, catching the violette’s gaze.
“He said it was a valuable life skill. He’s taught me a lot of life skills like that actually, I could probably make it out in the woods for a few months if I really wanted to,” Hunter mused, drawing another spell circle and causing his Switch to vanish, before flicking a knife out of his sleeve, “Like how to make comfortable and incognito sheathes for extra weaponry, for in his words, “You’ll never know when you’ll need to stab a bitch”.”
“Can’t you just magic those out of thin air?” Jack questioned, to which Hunter just giggled, a bit like a child.
“Sure, but that’s a lot less fun, and there are probably artifacts out there that can drain magic,” he hummed, tossing the knife into the air and catching it by the tip of the blade, “Better safe than sorry, yeah?”
“Wait, then what was with that shit in the kitchen yesterday?” Jack questioned, to which the violette blushed, pointed ears turning red all the way to the tip.
“Um… I was showing off?” He muttered, flipping the knife back to the hilt side, using the blades reflection to avoid eye contact, “I don’t know how to make friends, so I tend to try and impress people I want to associate with whenever I can, I suppose.”
“… did you do that kind of thing with Edric?” the redhead questioned, setting aside his wrench. The pleasant green haired witch being Hunters only friend he spoke of.
The voilette just turned a darker shade of red.
“No…. Edric actually caught my attention with his knowledge on wild magic. I was always into the subject, and I caught him with one of the books banned by the Emperor’s Coven on my first day of school,” Hunter explained, looking a little wistful, “We’re kind of just a pair of lonely people who happened to share a lot of interests, so we got close really fast…”
Jack took in the look on the violettes face, something wistful and fond. It was something he’d only seen in those Hallmark movies he’d watch when he was feeling extra lonely when he was younger.
He knew that face. Knew it well, despite never having seen it directed his way.
“… do you like him?”
“No!” the violette hissed angrily, his calm demeanor burned up in an instant. He glared at the redhead with a snarl that displayed the gap between his rather sharp teeth. Jack took a step back with a flinch, the aggression something he had been unfamiliar with when it came to the other boy until then. Despite his diminutive size, he was terrifying when angered. “I’m not gay. Don’t you EVER imply such a thing of me again-!”
“Sorry! Didn’t know you were homophobic!” Jack squeaked, cursing the voice cracks that never fucked off.
The statement seemed to knock all the air out of the smaller male, and he immediately relaxed once more, looking ashamed.
“No. Not homophobic. Luz is Bi, and has a girlfriend to boot, I could never hate my little sister for that,” he clarified, looking a little downtrodden. “I just… wasn’t raised in the best environment when it came to someone’s orientation. Or for anything, really, but that’s not my point”
“So accusations of being gay didn’t go over well, then?” Jack asked quietly, a rarity for him.
“”Didn’t go over well” is putting it mildly,” Hunter sighed, popping the button on his hood and pulling the neck of the shirt underneath down, displaying a rather nasty looking, jagged scar running from the side of his neck. It traced down his collar and over the side of his chest, the wound had just barely missing the carotid artery. It had healed completely at that point, but it was newer than the one on his cheek, perhaps only a few years old. “My…. Guardian, you could call him, the one before my dad took me in, did not react well when I looked at a boy my age “wrong” during one of those castle galas we had. After that, let’s just say that if I was gay at some point, and I never was, I had the homosexuality beaten out of me several times over.”
“… Hunter, your orientation can’t-“
“Yes the fuck it can,” the violette hissed, trembling a bit as he sat upright in the chair, one hand clutching the fabric of his shirt over the scar, the other digging into the armrest with sharp claws. “It can and it has. I don’t have a thing for Edric, end of story”
“Okay,” Jack simply replied, putting his hands down and moving back to the work table, pulling his current project back in front of him. “Consider the book shut”
“…thank you”
The silence that came after that wasn’t exactly uncomfortable, but there was still some tension in the air. Hunter just curled up and showed his back to the redhead, trembling slightly.
Eventually, after maybe half an hour, he finally spoke again when the genius wasn’t using a loud tool.
“… you won’t… tell anyone about that, right?” he asked, shifting a bit to peek over his shoulder.
“As long as you don’t tell anyone I sleep with a nightlight, we’re even,” Jack replied simply, earning himself a confused stare.
“You sleep with a- oh”
“Yeah.”
A more comfortable silence followed for a bit. Then;
“Thank you, Jack”
“No problem,” he replied, going back to his project with a small smile, “After all, what are friends for?”

Transform Your Driveway with Epoxy Flooring Redlands: Long-Lasting Results in Brisbane
When it comes to driveway resurfacing, durability, aesthetics, and functionality are key. If you’re looking to transform your tired, worn-out driveway into a modern and resilient surface, Epoxy Flooring Redlands in Brisbane is your go-to solution. Specializing in professional resurfacing services, they offer top-notch quality that ensures outstanding and long-lasting results. In this article, we'll explore why epoxy flooring is the ideal choice for driveways and how Epoxy Flooring Redlands can help elevate your home’s curb appeal and functionality.
Why Choose Epoxy Flooring for Your Driveway?
Epoxy flooring is an increasingly popular choice for both residential epoxy flooring and commercial driveways due to its many benefits. It’s a durable, low-maintenance, and visually appealing option that outperforms traditional concrete and asphalt in several key areas.
Durability and Strength One of the main advantages of epoxy flooring is its remarkable strength. When applied, epoxy creates a solid, seamless surface that can withstand heavy vehicle traffic, extreme weather conditions, and the inevitable wear and tear of daily use. Unlike standard concrete driveways that can crack over time, epoxy provides a resistant barrier that reduces the likelihood of damage, extending the life of your driveway for years.
Slip-Resistance for Safety A major concern for any driveway is safety. Wet driveways, especially during Brisbane’s rainy seasons, can become slippery and dangerous. Epoxy flooring can be customized with anti-slip coatings, making your driveway safer for both vehicles and pedestrians. This feature is particularly useful for sloped driveways or areas that experience heavy rain and moisture.
Weather-Resistant Surface Brisbane's hot summers and occasional heavy rains can wreak havoc on traditional driveways. Epoxy coatings are highly resistant to UV rays, meaning they won’t fade or degrade in the sun. Additionally, epoxy can withstand Brisbane’s temperature fluctuations without expanding, contracting, or cracking, making it an excellent choice for local conditions.
Low Maintenance Once applied, epoxy flooring requires minimal upkeep. Regular sweeping and occasional washing with a hose or pressure washer are enough to keep your driveway looking pristine. Unlike concrete or asphalt, which may need frequent resealing or repairs, epoxy’s low maintenance makes it a cost-effective option in the long run.
Enhanced Aesthetics A newly resurfaced driveway with epoxy flooring can dramatically improve the appearance of your property. Epoxy is available in a variety of colors, patterns, and finishes, allowing homeowners to create a customized look that complements the style of their home. Whether you want a glossy, modern finish or a textured, stone-like appearance, epoxy can deliver the aesthetics you're after.
The Resurfacing Process with Epoxy Flooring Redlands
Epoxy Flooring Redlands offers a professional, seamless process that ensures your driveway resurfacing is done efficiently and to the highest standards. Here’s an overview of the steps involved:
Assessment and Preparation The first step is to assess the current condition of your driveway. Cracks, chips, and surface damage will be addressed to ensure a smooth base for the epoxy application. The team will thoroughly clean and prepare the driveway, removing any dirt, debris, or oil stains that could interfere with the epoxy adhesion.
Priming the Surface A primer is applied to enhance the adhesion of the epoxy coating to the driveway. This step is crucial to ensure that the epoxy bonds effectively to the surface and provides long-lasting durability.
Tumblr media
Epoxy Application Once the primer has set, the epoxy resin is applied evenly across the driveway. Depending on the desired finish, multiple layers of epoxy may be applied. Custom designs, colors, or textures can be added during this stage to achieve the desired look.
Finishing Touches Finally, a protective topcoat is applied to seal the epoxy surface. This topcoat enhances the durability of the driveway, providing additional resistance to chemicals, UV rays, and abrasion. Once complete, the driveway will need time to fully cure before it’s ready for vehicle traffic, ensuring maximum longevity.
