Camae Ayewa (born November 19, 1981) better known by her stage name Moor Mother, is an American poet, musician, and activist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.She is one half of the collective Black Quantum Futurism, along with Rasheedah Phillips,and co-leads the groups Irreversible Entanglements and 700 Bliss.

Ayewa co-leads and provides lyrics and vocals for the "liberation-oriented free-jazz collective" Irreversible Entanglements. She met the quintet's members through musical and activist endeavors: bassist Luke Stewart shared bills with her band the Mighty Paradocs; saxophonist Keir Neuringer worked with Books Through Bars, whose events Ayewa has emceed; and the trio of Ayewa, Stewart, and Neuringer was followed by the duo of trumpeter Aquiles Navarro and drummer Tcheser Holmes at a 2015 Musicians Against Brutality event following the shooting of Akai Gurley. The group performed in the inaugural season of the Kennedy Center's "Direct Current" contemporary culture showcase, and their releases have been included in best-of lists in Magnet, NPR Music, The Quietus, and Stereogum's "20 Best Jazz Albums Of The 2010s". The band's instrumentalists also performed on Ayewa's debut theatrical work, Circuit City.

In the fall of 2021, Ayewa began serving as an assistant professor at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music.

SEASONAL_SONG_DISORDER: // It’s that time of year again… // Let’s not beat around the bush, DEAD MAN’s BONES embody a certain late October ethos & eschew any of the corniness related around Halloween & or cutesy child choirs. // There is nothing un-calculated about what Zachary Shields & Ryan Gosling create under their Dead Man’s guise. They pull off the unthinkable, managing to do so in such a charming & artistic manner. // On paper, this has all the possibility of being an absolute train wreck: Hollywood A-List actor, a near singular aesthetic, kids, a penchant for old-timey instruments, KIDS, quaint spookiness, handsomeness, lots & lots of children singing…yet, it really fucking works!! // “In the Room Where You Sleep” is the quintessential drama club anthem...the Gos croons the fuck outta the gothic doo-wop of “My Body’s A Zombie for You”....“Lose Your Soul” is all under-the-floor-board creep, & “Pa Pa Power” is the autumnal power-pop-goth we deserve & the jaunty “Werewolf Heart” leaves us swooning. // 2009′s ‘Dead Man’s Bones’ @antirecords is the group’s sole artistic statement (at least on record) & what a fine statement it is. // Gosling & Shields seem beyond capable of creating great songs in a conventional way, but their idea of adding mad harmonies via The Silverlake Conservatory of Music Children’s Choir was an ingenious one. // Not only does the inclusion of the Silverlake Choir set them apart from other indie (and non-indie) acts, it appropriately ups the eerie ante they were going for, proving once again that there’s nothing the Gos can’t do.

Notes: I'm usually not a fan of live versions, but something about Dr. Dog's cover of Architecture in Helsinki's Heart It Races is just so alluring, especially when live, it's intoxicating. I'm not so much a fan of the original song; I could take or leave it. Dr. Dog really lays on the Funk, cleans up the song, and overall improves it in my opinion.
