just played andromeda six’s episode 6, i see what the fuss was all about now. i’m not gonna say anything on that matter because i’ll wait for the full story (4 more episodes) before critiquing the frankly somewhat badly handled depiction of grief in episodes 1-5, but i do have something i want to say.

does anyone think the chemistry between the crew is ... lacking? feel free to discuss it with me, i bring it up because i’m trying to figure it out for fic, and i can’t seem to find in-text explanations for why they stick together, except possibly an anti-k’merii sentiment. that’s all well and good, spite can carry a person a long way, but this crew have supposedly been running together for several years now, so where’s the emotional connective tissue between them?

but burn, you ask, this is a romance vn, why is this important? shouldn’t the devs prioritize the relationship between LI and MC?

you’d be correct, imaginary audience! but what happens, i ask, to the LIs who you don’t romance? what happens to their plot, and what happens to them when their arc is over? i know i dislike a character who becomes a hanger-on. i especially dislike it when there are potentially rich inter-crew interactions to be had but they’re just left hanging. it’s nice to read about a group of friends who like each other anyway, isn’t it?

let me state before we go into the weeds that the aim of this post is for discussion and engagement (and my own analysis). pull up a carpet square, friends, we’re going down the character list by alphabet.

Ayame:

we know her relationship with Bash to be friendly, almost bestie-level, because they work together very often (such as on Cursa) and have similar interests (mecha). this is good! me like. i’d love to see more of their shenanigans! i’ll probably write a fic of them sparring or something, that’ll be fun.

we know her relationship with Calderon to be that of superior-subordinate, but also of friends, but we see very little of it aside from being told. i also wanna write a fic of the time Aya broke him out of jail, because you know Cal is gonna be pissed off she’s breaking the law, even if she’s breaking the law to help him.

we know she and June seem to have a Responsible-Older-Brother and Misbehaving-Little-Sister thing going on, which is alright, but still rather shallow. furthermore, do they bond over the loss of a sibling? do they know the other has experienced the same loss? that seems like a big oversight to me, maybe the devs will expand on that in the future?

we know she likes Damon enough to have slept with him (i don’t personally believe sex = a relationship; i’m more in the sex = lust camp, so just telling me ‘they slept together’ isn’t relationship shorthand in my book) and anyways it was a drunken thing, iirc. also, we see very little of them having a substantial conversation (the spar doesn’t count and i shouldn’t have to explain why) outside of work. i want to know what ayame thinks of their stabby assassin!! i wanna know if she likes cats as much as he does!!

we know next to nothing about her relationship with Ryona. I may be mistaken (i haven’t played the game exhaustively) but Ayame doesn’t have a scene in Ryona’s lab, nor do they interact a lot on-screen, and very little is said about what they think of each other aside from civilities.

finally, and perhaps most damningly, we have never seen Ayame react on-screen to Vexx, who has so much potential with Ayame. they’re both kitalphan, but Aya is first-gen and Vexx is second-gen, which is a perfect set up for conflict! (i go into this in my fic, come read?) but we see nothing on-screen. devs, is there a reason? you gave us the delicious hook of vexx’s parents being dead - why not expand on his kitalphan parentage a little, since Kitalpha imploding should’ve impacted his life as well. (i go into this in my fic ... come read?)

The most we’ve read about Ayame’s apparent distance from the team is revealed in Ep6, where she reveals some spoiler-ish facts about her attitude towards the crew, her brother Akira, and family. I eagerly await more news on her relationships for future episodes.

Bash:

i’ve covered his relationship with Ayame, and i’ll preface this section with the admission that his arc hasn’t come yet, so perhaps it explains the apparent lack of focus on Bash in the main plot.

see, Bash occupies the unique position as the one guy on the crew who’s connection with the two Pillars of Plot (Zovack and Peg’asi) to be extremely tenuous. everyone else has a big fat bone to pick with both Pillars, driving the plot forwards, but Bash ... i’ll wait and see.

back to his inter-crew relationships. we have nothing on him and Calderon. who recruited him? Oppo? how did the recruitment interview go? how did he switch careers from arena fighter to engineer? what was he doing before being a fighter?

we have nothing on him and Damon, except the odd line here and there about Bash’s hand-to-hand skills. give me something here, devs, both are skilled fighters and one has a metal arm, there’s so much potential here!

we have very little on him and June. presumably the crew knows about June’s history, and clearly there is some familiarity with June’s orionite-rages, but beyond that? ...

we know about his you-saved-my-life crush on Ryona. i’m hoping his arc in the future episodes will feature the resolution of this little thread

and finally, absolutely nothing about Vexx except the usual anti-k’merii sentiment. what does our resident engineer think about one rehabilitated k’merii on their ship? no one knows. as a Vexxmancer i’m a little disappointed. i still want Bash in my traveller’s life, y’know?

i’m not the most Bash-inclined player, so if anything i said in this section is false, do point it out to me!

i’ve been plugging the lack of Ayame and Bash interactions by coming up with wild hesdcanons in my fic. the most recent example is a shopping trip they took together, come read! and pass judgement

Calderon:

we’ve covered Aya and Bash, so i’ll start with Damon.

there’s a substantial amount here - we gather from context clues that Cal is the one to recruit Damon, and Damon knows quite a bit about Cal, but we’re not sure exactly about the when, how, and why of both the recruitment and the depth of their relationship. (how do they know each other? i bet there’s a juicy story there.) we also haven’t seen them do anything other than talk shop since the bar on Nos Vega. even the mission scene on Orion was rushed and devoid of detail. now, focusing writing efforts on the MC was the correct decision for the devs, but i want to see the crew fight back-to-back!! there could be so much to write about — the trust between them, where did it come from? Damon is flighty, as Alisa’s scenes demonstrated, so how come Calderon trusts him so much?

we know very little about Cal and June. the scene they share on Cursa - their only time on-screen together - doesn’t have much on their relationship at all, only that June looks up to Calderon for his compassion. this doesn’t help much, because we don’t know what Cal thinks of June in response. again, if i have missed a line or two here and there, do point me in their direction, but my point is we know very little about the dynamics of this crew, even though we’re now 6 episodes in.

Calderon and Ryona is also a mystery. we have vague hints that they’re close in a we-killed-people-together sort of way (cal is aware of ryona’s aversion to killing, but nothing is said on this matter during the Orion mission) and we know Ryona is aware and slightly disapproving of Calderon’s quick temper, but what else?

Calderon and Vexx ... erm ... hostility??

Damon:

we’re covered Ayame, Bash, and Calderon, so we’ll start with June.

i ... don’t know what to say for him and June. i can’t recall any notable moment where he and June have exchanged a meaningful conversation. if i am misremembering, do let me know. what concerns me about this duo is that based on the views each have expressed in game, i don’t think they like each other all that much? i mean, Damon has his views about death, and June is torn up about his creation as a tool of violence and the death of Jules. that? that’s perfect conflict! another exciting angle of conflict between them is their fighting styles — Damon is, to use video game terms, a close-range DPS, and June is a tank/sniper hybrid, which should place them as the ultimate unbeatable tag team, but despite all these rich story threads, they don’t appear on-screen together for any substantial amount of time.

Damon and Ryona, though, i really really like. my personal headcanon for the reason for their bond is that the first thing Ryona did with Damon was kill a man, and since Ryona was recruited right after her traumatic run-in with the K’Merii, this act of mutually delivering violence deeply bonded her and Damon despite their vastly differing worldviews. but that’s my headcanon, what’s the devs’ take on this? giving us an unusual friendship is all well and good, but it’ll be even better if an explanation of events happens in-game! am hoping episodes 7-10 will give us more Damon&Ryona content!!

Damon and Vexx, i can also say i genuinely love. they...!! are just...!! i can’t even put it into meta, i just wrote a LOT of it into the fic, so if you want more Damon & Vexx shenanigans, hop on by the fic and witness the love i pour into them!!

June:

we’ve covered Ayame, Bash, Calderon, and Damon, so there’s only Ryona and Vexx to talk about.

we don’t know much about him and Ryona, which is a very big shame, because he is clearly afflicted by a condition that he doesn’t like or want. Ryona, however, is a medic/physician/doctor from a planet renowned for its medicine. do you see what i’m getting at? there is great potential for them! how does ryona react to him being the only successful implementation of biological orionite infusion? does she know? if so, why did June - and under what circumstances - did he tell her? if he didn’t tell her, what has she guessed? how does that affect their relationship?

Vexx ... erm ... ???

Ryona:

there’s not much to say here, because i’ve covered it all already.

we don’t know the details about her and ayame, but presumably they get along. does ryona know about akira? why, why not? i hope this gets brought up in episode 7 and after, it’d be a great place for it.

Bash has a crush on her, but we don’t know what she thinks about it. Episode 7 seems geared towards Ryona, though, so my hopes are up!

we don’t know the details about her and Calderon. there just isn’t much to go on, and this guy’s her captain.

her and Damon, we’ve already covered, they’re fantastic, 10/10, 💯, please continue.

June... :/

Vexx ... :// we have faint beginnings of something in the form of a doctor-patient relationship, but it’s not enough. why is she committed to healing him? is it professional pride? is it out of love for MC? depending on the answer, their dynamic is different, and will be interesting either way.

Vexx (my bias, my love, my one and only):

son, i know NOTHING about you. ayame? nothing.

bash? nothing.

calderon? nothing.

damon? mm, good shit, but 1/6 isn’t much.

june? nothing.

ryona? :/

this lack of relationships is a crucial oversight because i don’t feel that Vexx is connected to any of the crew. except for MC, who else is he living for? who else does he connect with? if MC doesn’t romance this LI, what is he doing in the story with his disproportionate weightage of plot relevance? i love vexx, im a sucker for the princess-and-her-bodyguard, but when i play other routes, im constantly puzzled by him. what are you doing here, buddy, where you have no friends, no past, and no future? i’d go mad, if i were him. or into a depressive funk.

so that’s all the characters. you’ll note that there are gems in there! Ayame and Bash, Damon and Ryona, Calderon and spite/duty/honor, and June and his lizard Jules. but there’s a significant lack of lateral connection. some of it can be pinned down to plot reasons:

the crew has been running from one planet to another since they picked up the traveller and thus has had no time to rest and interact

the crew is dealing with a massive, system-wide upheaval in politics and power, and many of them are personally caught up in it, which makes for heavy dinner table talk, so they don’t talk

this is still a romance VN, so space has to be made for MC/LI interactions

these gaos may well be foreshadowing, and this game still has 4 episodes to go, so i hope that by writing these out ... man, i don’t know. if the devs don’t find time to implement the lore allusions then i guess its ... fanfic time?

i’ve been reading spaceship crew fiction for a very long time and i believe the gaps im seeing isn’t a figment of my imagination, just as much as i believe the devs have it in them to write well. they did a wonderful job with the DLCs, after all!

I’m using headcanons to resolve this in my fic and also using my fic as a platform to play around in the sandbox of the A6 crew (please read it, i love writing it and i love discussing scifi) but if the dev’s read this - you may not, but if you do - this isn’t a put down or a ‘gotcha’, i’d love to see more canon interactions between the crew! this post is meant as character analysis and critique, and in good faith. plus, now that they’re on tilaarin, they can rest, so it’d be a perfect place to put in a relaxing scene like the one in Nos Vega!

Moonmoon Sims Cursed Context Post

This all started as a joke and I mentioned it to @/georgenootfound when i was on anon and so she wanted to see pictures of the babies and i didn't want to make a sideblog bc i would totally give away my normal tumblr via asks or some stupid shit like that. So now you have a whole ass blog and when you combine that with my adhd, uh...sorry?

But yeah like somehow i ended up making dnf as sims and moved them into moonwood mill to make them werewolves and sap got left out bc i think i was making them on limited time and i just forgot to put him in. And then I left them for like two fucking seconds to pay attention to something else (idk maybe i was raging over the fireplace they keep fucking leaving on damnit dream) and then they did the horizontal tango and all of a sudden simnotfound was gravid. Now, of course, these two had already gone exploring and stuff around moonwood mill and so both of them were bitten by some wolf in the tunnels at some point so i kind of just left it as a "lol wonder how many of them will be werewolves".

Some more context: okay so basically i gave them fake surnames so dream originally had the last name "white" but then he took george's surname ("novak-flynn) after they got married in their backyard and anyways george went into labor like right when they were saying their vows which was...a whole thing.

Of course, because I have MC Command Center and a few other mods, they had a whole ass litter of six babies, it was a whole thing. So now they have six babies, who are now toddlers, and that's kind of where we're picking everything up. So here's the whole group of kids (the middle names for some of them are for fun you can thank ro and anons for that):

Andromeda and Sirius Black

I was going to make this short and sweet, but once I started typing I couldn’t stop. so here’s a lengthy read on my (re) newest obsession. about 99% canon complaint. not every good with numbers, me.

my headcanon is that one of the reasons andromeda and sirius got along so well during family functions is that they both loved music. musical geniuses both of them. (maybe sirius picked it up from andromeda who always played the piano/violin whenever she got her hands on one and he started picking up on it too).

i don’t think andy married ted right after hogwarts. she gave birth to tonks at 20 or 21 old. so that give her about six years after hogwarts to secretly get to know ted and muggle london. so sirius and andromeda spent the holidays together when their families celebrated. while i do think she kept ted a secret from everyone, sirius started suspecting something. cause she’d sneak her and sirius out of the family celebration to go see broadway west end musicals.

and she knew her way around muggle london far too well. he cleverly tries getting her to spill the tea but she’s far more clever about it. keeping her muggleborn boyfriend a secret from her nosy sisters and her bigoted parents keep her on her toes. she’s not going to slip up her to nosy thirteen year old cousin so matter how much she likes him.

so anyways, she takes him to a musical and sirius is so suprised. first of all, he’s got so much new musical material to obsess over. secondly, he’s so curious about how muggles are setting everything up. (he’s taken a good look, there’s no charms no transfiguration no magic involved at all). he gets so curious he has to know. so next year at hogwarts, he takes muggle studies to learn more to the detriment of his parents.

no one tells sirius that andromeda left. it happens about two years later when he’s at hogwarts. and it seems to him that everyone found out before he did. he’s getting snide remarks from the pure bloods that run in the same circle as his family. nobody tells him what’s happened. not his mother or his father. not bella (not even to make fun of his close relationship to a blood traitor which is weird because that’s one of her favorite pastimes). not narcissa but she certainly didn’t have a problem writing to regulus and letting him know. and certainly not andy.

the last he’s seen her was the summer before fifth year when they snuck out into muggle London and she confessed to him that bellatrix took the dark mark. and how her parents wanted her to marry a lestrange and take the dark mark too since bella had set the precedent. and all he can think of now is what the final straw was for andy. but he doesn’t know because nobody in the family said anything to him. eventually he seeks out regulus (looong story here because these two cannot have a civil conversation for more than 3 minutes) but eventually regulus takes pity on him and give him the tea. but that’s the last time he’s heard anything about andromeda black. nobody has seen her since. and nobody has heard from her since. not even him, to his sorrow.

when he goes home that summer there’s a surprise awaiting him. he’s expected to take the dark mark now that he’s sixteen years old. again thanks to bella for setting the precedent. he’s obviously refusing. but he doesn’t know where to go. james is pretty angry with him over the prank he pulled on snape. remus avoids him eyes. peter ducks him head every time he sees sirius. the one ally he had was his cousin andy but he doesn’t know how to reach her. he knows that she’s now andromeda tonks but that’s all. it’s so frustrating and heartbreaking.

the night before he’s supposed to be taken to get the dark mark, he leaves. there’s shouting, there’s items being thrown, there’s tears, there’s pleas. but he leaves anyway. he knows him and james are at odds but james would never turn him away. he was his best friend dammit. and he knew deep in heart despite remus and peter choosing james over him, that james was just as miserable without sirius as sirius was without him …

… and he wasn’t wrong. the moment james saw sirius in his foyer, there was nothing but tears and laughter and all was forgiven between the two. and that ended up being one of the best summers they had.

andy didn’t know about sirius leaving and being disowned. she was married to a muggleborn and she knew some members of her family would eventually come after her. so she and ted quietly left the wizarding world. she wanted to reach out to sirius — she truly did — but by the time she and ted settled down and found a safe place to live, she was expecting a baby girl. she had new priorities now.

andy has a lot of regrets about that. she finds out in the obituary that regulus died. she didn’t know about her uncle Alphard leaving gold to sirius and being wiped off the tapestry. she just find his obituary in the daily prophet and is saddened. he was her favorite. he was very funny and always made her laugh. she finds out about sirius in the daily prophet. just as the war ends and she’s finally breathes a sigh of relief that her family is spared, she reaches for the newspaper and sees sirius’s face staring back at her. ted looks over her shoulder to see what caught her attention. he tries consoling her but she just shrugs everything off Iike it means nothing. it’s only when she’s alone that she allows herself to think and cry. she blames herself obviously. if only she reached out to him instead of leaving him to fend for himself without her. if only she hasn’t introduced him to muggle London … now he’s kiIIed 13 of them. he was just like them.

years later, when he escapes azkaban, she’s truly afraid. if he came after her husband, she wouldn’t know what to do. she only finds out the truth after the second war. and she’s truly going through it now.

first that sirius was innocent the whole time and she doubted him. why did she do that? why was she so quick to believe he could have behaved like that?

second that her daughter knew he was innocent and kept it from her!

third that remus lupin sat at her dinning table and lied to her face when he said he didn’t know how sirius died or who kiIIed him.

fourth that regulus regulus was one of the first people who tried to bring the Dark Lord down. while he was a death eater. at seventeen!

fifth that narcissa did the same. narcissa lied to the Dark Lord and saved Harry Potter. narcissa dammit. her selfish, self serving sister did that. she didn’t know how to feel.

sixth that it was bella who kiIIed sirius. sirius who was innocent the whole damn time and was a member of the order of the phoenix. how could have bella done that?

seventh that bella also kiIIed her daughter. her daughter. her sister kiIIed her daughter. and all of this happened while she sat at home safe and sound. she would never forgive herself.

she always was burdened by having Black blood. she always hated it. but the Blacks of her generation did more for both wars than she could have ever imagined. she sat there thinking they were all cowards for not being as brave as her for leaving their bigoted family legacy behind. but every single one of them played a vital part in ending the war. sirius, regulus, and narcissa. hell even her daughter, dora, and her sister’s son, draco. she would never ever forgive herself.

Wait fuck I need to revise my GOTY list from my previous post because I clean forgot about Octopath Traveler II and Dredge! (Also that they came out earlier this year instead of last year like my brain kept insisting. I think because of how rough of a year it's been for me overall my memory/sense of time in regards to events that happened this year is a bit screwy in some spots. In particular I think my memory shunted the entire first three or four months of 2023 back into 2022 because it was before everything went to shit.)

Anyway so far my GOTY picks are, in no particular order:

Slay the Princess, Octopath Traveler II, Baldur's Gate 3, Rune Factory 5, and Dredge.

With Honorable Mentions to both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. For being good games in general imo but also for being the best experience I've had with a Zelda game. Good stuff.

Yes I know some of those games came out earlier than 2023 but sssssh I first played them in 2023/or started playing them in earnest in 2023 so I say it counts.

Also, while they're not GOTY picks, some games I played a lot in 2023 and helped me get through the year- Vampire Survivors, Potioncraft, the 'Ever Seen a Cat' Trilogy (a series of hidden object games), and Bobbl (a new game for the NES that someone made that's on Itch.io, I play it on an emulator), Mothkeeper (an itch.io game that's basically what it says on the tin), and Andromeda Six (a WIP Visual Novel, also on itch.io).

Send 💥 for a headcanon I’ve always wanted to talk about, but haven’t had the chance to yet.

Just because I've been gone does NOT mean I've been idle, no sirree! I've been meaning to figure out how exactly Imogen is related to all her cousins and aunts and uncles for ages, and when I started re-writing her first year fic and realized her cousin Felix was going to play a more prominent role, I finally sat down and worked everything out. And I mean everything. I just kept following the breadcrumbs of which pure-bloods were related to which other pure-bloods, and holy shit there were so many breadcrumbs.

Would you like to see the result? No? Too bad! I worked hard on this, so now I'm inflicting it on all of you!

That little gray rectangle is Imogen. Like ninety percent of everyone else is all canon in some way or another. I only took one single liberty with canon for this, and that was just to say a rumor was only partly accurate about a character that only exists in the Hogwarts Mystery mobile game. (Also that character is gay now and Rowling can kiss my ass.) I've got a notes doc to go along with this that's six whole-ass pages long and still growing. Literally how.

Anyway, you can't read anything in the picture, can you? I can't either, so I'll just give you the highlights:

Imogen and Draco Malfoy are now second cousins on their mothers' sides, which ties in well with the close friendship between the two families. (I'm going to go ahead and pretend that was intentional all along.) I had Lucretia's maiden name down as Rosier from the very start, and then I just kept on finding more Rosiers, and then I discovered Bellatrix, Andromeda, and Narcissa's mother was a Rosier, so that means...

Imogen is also the second cousins of Tonks. They're in the same year at Hogwarts, but neither of them find out about their relation until they reunite at Grimmauld Place for the Order, and Tonks starts complaining about her mum's family. That's when Imogen puts two and two together about what happened to Andromeda Black after she was disowned for marrying a Muggle-born.

And if Imogen is second cousins with Tonks, that makes Remus Lupin her cousin-in-law. Is that a thing? Imogen sure hopes it's not a thing. Lupin killed her father! She spent five years trying to murder him for it! She nearly succeeded! Sure, they're both on the same side now working for the same secret organization Lupin killed her father for in the first place, but attempted murder will make any alliance a little awkward. Imogen's judging Tonks' taste in men hard. (Plus, she assumed for years Tonks was a lesbian, so that's confusing her too.)

So yeah, that's what I've been up to lately. I unironically had a lot of fun with this.

Whumptober Day 6: “No More”. Fandom: Andromeda Six. 

“Stop!” he screamed. “No more of this, he’ll die!” he yelled. For his pleas to stay unheard. And unanswered. He could do nothing. Only to watch through the glass windows, not hearing a sound either. But feeling it. Feeling the hushed conversation between the people who called themselves his mother and father, feeling the buzzing of the lights and the numerous machines, feeling the burst of pain, shock, every bit of torture they put Jules through. “For the best of humanity,” they said. “For scientific causes.” Sheltered as he were, June could not disagree with them.

Yet even then he knew it was wrong.

He never abandoned his vows. His vow to protect other living beings, his vow to never lose anyone dear again. His vow to put his life—worthless as it were—below the lives of others. He could not save the one person who made his existence worthwhile back on Orion. That mistake would not happen again, and his own survival was of no relevance.

The Prince that he unknowingly saved, whom he cherished, despised, hated, and trusted enough to break down in front of. The Captain, the Pilot, the Medic, the Assassin, the Engineer… All of them. He would not let them die.

If anything were to happen, he would make sure to go down before the others.

Today, as he shouts “No more!”, they are tearing down the plants of Orion. Breaking folks out of well-guarded prisons, evading the numerous assassins, laying waste to more and more creations of the awful people that governed the system. Hand in hand, side by side with the crew, with Maq’ri. Returning home was painful, yet he admits that it was worth it. Worth it to bring peace to this planet, and to make things the way they should be. His cause was worthwhile, his shipmates are delightful. The Prince is… something else entirely.

He can’t say he wishes for his life to end.

He only wishes it didn’t take a sacrifice to get him where he is.
