Hi! I started reading toa and I love it so far, I found your blog and I really like it! but I've been having a hard time finding a lot of fandom content, could you recommend me some toa blogs that you know please?

Ok so number 1: @ukelele-boy. Guys ukeleleboy is so cool. If you want some incredible art and really cool hc you should definitely follow them. 

@sierice is another blog I would definitely recommend. I swear she manages to find every post related to ToA on the site lol. She’s also the accidental creator of Polldona!

Speaking of collections of ToA stuff on tumblr, @the-toarchives is collecting all the ToA content on tumblr, so definitely check it out!

I adore @heresronnie21 ‘s art, and all of their headcanons about Apollo. Seriously one of my favorite artists in the ToA space. 

@flzzypop is also such a good ToA fanartist!!! They’ve said they’re taking a bit of a break from ToA related stuff, but you should still absolutely give them a follow bc their art is just so cozy and wonderful.

I just love @trials-of-apunllo. Like it’s so good.

@txny-dragon has such adorable art, I smile everytime I see it. Also they're running the apollo ship tournament right now and I am so hyped for that.

@ferodactyl Is, as stated in their blog description, the CEO of Sunflower Sibs. Fero's art is amazing, their writing is stellar, and they've organized a whole bunch of events for the ToA fandom over the years. Honestly I don't think the ToA fandom would be what it is today without Fero.

@choconoru does art of the riordanverse in general, and all of it is beautiful and I love it. Their most recent piece of Lester is literal gold!

Another great fanartist is @moodyseal !!! She's been around for a while and her art is always sucha treat. I love her AoD design it's beautiful

Another og is @flightfoot . As she's said, she's more posting about Miraculous Ladybug now, but I followed flightfoot when I first started looking into the ToA fandom which was years ago. To me, Flightfoot is a fandom pillar, and definetly a blog you should check out.

Yannig An Od [Celtic/Breton mythology]

Imagine you’re taking a stroll on the bank of a river. In the distance, you see an elderly man rowing a little boat. Suddenly, you hear a strange bird calling once, twice, and a third time. It sounds like ‘Iouhou!’ If you answered or yelled something back, the enigmatic man on the boat suddenly takes a giant leap and devours you.

This is the Yannig An Od – a mysterious creature from Breton folktales. There are a bunch of different names and retellings of the story: Yann-an-Ord, Iannic-ann-ôd, Yannig an Aod, etc. But the basics are always the same: the spirit resides near a riverbank or seashore and calls out three times, and kills those who answer or return its calls. ‘An od’ and its variations mean ‘of the shore’ while Iannic, Yann and Yannig are given names (often translated as ‘John’ or ‘Johnny’).

Collectively, these similar folk monsters are often called ‘Yannig’ and they are sometimes likened to fairies or sirens.

The spirit was said to rule over the Odet River in Breton. It was the undead ghost of a drowned man and dwelt on the riverbanks and let out its strange cry three times in succession, which was somewhat similar to that of an owl, and to leap at and devour anyone who was foolish enough to answer or mock the cries. Eventually, it was defeated by the wit of a local folk hero, Konan Ruz.

As legend has it, Konan was on an errand for flour to bake bread when he heard the three owl-like hoots. Not knowing their origin but annoyed at the noise, he hooted back in a mocking tone. Suddenly, Yannig An Od appeared and threw the man on his side. Konan however was a physically strong lad and managed to overpower his assailant by hitting the creature’s feet and causing it to fall on the ground. Konan put his knee on the being’s throat and held it down. The creature, now struggling to breathe, begged Konan to release it since apparently he came out of the water too early (before midnight). The man agreed to release his captive but only on the condition that the spirit would tell him some secrets about the world it came from: not the afterlife, but the place between the plane of the dead and the world of the living. This did not please the spirit, who warned that this information was not meant for the ears of a baptized man.

Yannig An Od told Konan that the ocean is a living being who sent wrinkles/waves across its skin every day, to counteract aging. At sunset, the sun descends into the ocean, warming its heart and waking it. The sea then makes a loud noise with its bowels, and in that hour the morgans and other mythical creatures from the depths sound the bells of their underwater towers. At that hour, Yannig An Od rises from between the rocks of the riverside, as these rocks contain the souls of the drowned.

Konan remembered that fishermen sometimes see thousands of human corpses in the ocean and asked Yannig what this means. The creature replied that these were the spirits of drowned people who remain in the ocean. When they reach a certain age, drowned corpses can freely move around in the ocean and wander beneath the waves in great numbers. Yannig also told his captor about the green sun, which is the source of the unnatural power that he and the drowned ones have. This sun can be seen underwater at night and has a connection with the afterlife, though the details are not entirely clear to me. When daytime comes, the drowned dead retake their places among the rocks of the seafloor and wait until the green sun rises once again.

Konan did not realize the creature’s trickery until it was too late: Yannig An Od was buying time with his stories until the clock struck midnight and the green sun arose under the sea. Now back at full power, he fought and killed his enemy. Konan died but managed to scare the spirit and to this day, the creature is too afraid to let out its cry near Konan’s side of the river it inhabits.

That being said though, Yannig An Od is still a dangerous entity and should you hear its cry, take care not to mock it, for this will entice the ghost to attack you. It is said that if you encounter this spirit, you have to remove your shoes and run barefoot across the beach or riverbank with your shoes in your hands.

In addition, Yannig An Od may also come to peoples’ houses. He will knock on the door and ask for a small piece of burning or smouldering wood from the fireplace. You should never give in to this strange request, though it isn’t entirely clear to me what will happen if you do or what the ghost plans to use the wood for.

AOD, All For You, Chapter 2

Bucky stared at the wall, unable to process anything beyond the sniffling of his sisters and his mother. 

“C’mon, punk…”

His silvery eyes snapped to that of his best friend, “not now, Steve…”

Steve sighed and looked up to his own father who was standing at the door of the hospital room.  Their eyes met, and Joe Rogers shook his head at his son, muttering a quick ‘no.’

“Dad?”

“Let the kid grieve, son…” Joe Rogers said in a gruff voice, “old man’s not even cold…give em some time, yeah?”

“But dad-“

“Steve!” his father warned firmly.  Steve’s lips closed and he sighed, “Now’s not the time son.  There’s too much to do.”

“Thanks for being here though, punk…” Bucky said as he looked to his best friend. 

“Til the end of the line, Buck…”

“James-James I-oh, fuck…”

Bucky grunted against her ebony skin, his hips driving deep into her core.  His eyes closed as he buried his face in her neck, taking in the soft smell of shea butter and cinnamon, “Shuri…I love you baby-fuck…you take me so well…”

“Right there!”

“I need you baby!” Bucky purred, his hips keeping the same rhythm they’d been going at for nearly half an hour, “so close.  So-So close baby!  I’m gonna-”

Her back arched, pressing against his muscular chest, “I love you, James…”

Bucky came as she said the magic words.  Her legs locked around his waist, her heels digging into the firm flesh of his ass, pushing him impossibly deep into her.  Bucky’s breathing became ragged as his hips stuttered.  Her soft whimpers filled the room as her pussy fluttered around his cock, milking every bit of him from the point of their connection.  A warmth filled Shuri’s womb as his seed spilled into her. 

“I love you, Shuri!” Bucky gasped, placing a series of light kisses along her jaw and down the column of her throat, “I love you, Shur…wanna marry you one day, baby…make you Shuri Barnes…we’ll be so good together…”

Shuri leaned forward and gave him a gentle kiss.  Bucky felt his heart lurching in his chest as he told her how he felt, “I love you more than anything, Shur…”

Her smile faltered when she heard the phone chime a few times in a row. 

“That better be work!” she said firmly, their sweet intimate moment broken. 

Bucky paled.  He knew that it wasn’t work judging by the four synchronous buzzes.  There was only one woman who did that, “Baby….I-I can explain…”

“Is it something that requires an explanation before you’ve even checked your phone?”

Bucky frowned, “if it is what I think it is…then I owe you more than an explanation…”

Shuri’s expression changed in an instant as she pushed him away from her, her own heart falling into the pit of her stomach, “you’re still fucking that whore!  Aren’t you?”

Bucky sat up from his bed, too ashamed to answer the question.

“JAMES!”

“Shuri…sh-she means nothing.”

“If she meant nothing then she wouldn’t be in your phone!  You told me that you were done with them…that it was all just because of your dad passing…that you were acting out.  But you were lying, weren’t you?  This was all just some sick game!” Shuri growled as she began to collect her clothes and put them back on.  Bucky started to get out of the bed, and attempted to grab her clothes, in order to try to stop her from leaving.  When he grabbed her top, she reached for it.  But when he wouldn’t release it, she punched his arm, “Let it go.  Let me go, James!  I’m leaving!”

“Shuri…baby, you can’t leave!” Bucky began, not giving a damn that he was naked, arguing with the woman who he was just cumming in moments ago, “you can’t leave me.  I-“

“Watch me!” she hissed, cutting him off.  When he still didn’t let go of her shirt, she released it, and chose to grab the one that he’d been wearing.  Throwing the button-up on, it nearly swallowed her, but she didn’t care, “you want to fuck someone, it should be your girlfriend.  It should be the one that you were just promising a future to!  Not a whore on the side too!”

“Shuri-“

“NO!” she said firmly, “I-I’ve dealt with this for two months…I’m not saying that losing a parent is easy…nor is taking over the family business…but I won’t sit on the sidelines and watch you do this.  I won’t support it.  I’m a Wakandan…I deserve a man who would burn the world for me…not burn my world so that I fit into his.  We’re done, white wolf…I-I don’t want to hear from you again!”

And before he could argue, she had rushed out of the room, slamming his door behind her.

Angel of Darkness - Chapter Preview

I haven’t forgotten AoD! I do have the next chapter almost ready to post but for now I’ll provide a chapter preview with just a bit of the beginning! I’ll keep it short but the rest will be up tomorrow!

The wallpaper was a bit dated, gaudy for sure. All of it in its 70s glory. The floral green upholstered couches and almost painful salmon pink of the accents and decor made Amara’s eyes hurt.

Paired with the two suits currently occupying the couches. They looked just about excited as postmen at Christmas. Only here out of obligation to the young girl temporarily staying here. It’d been a tough first year, reestablishing normalcy to a girl who’d had less than a normal life proved to be far more difficult than expected. Another reason they’d called her here, beyond their allotted visits.

The older woman, Mrs. Hoffman, was sweet but one could tell she ran her home with a tad bit of an iron fist. If it wasn’t already clear, this woman was strict to Sherry.

Treating her as though what laid inside her could be fixed.

Stupid. Fucked up, really.

They’d become two of a kind. Amara knew what it was like to be uprooted quite often, never quite having stability to really put much stock into making friends, sure, she’d try but never quite knowing when they’d be off to the next place made it hard to keep in touch.

Sherry had been in limbo, both Amara and Claire argued that this much moving around didn’t do much for her.

Amara leaned against the doorframe, Sherry not yet made aware of her being there as she rummaged through a storage container of cassette tapes. Even from her sitting position on the floor, Amara could tell she’d hit a bit of a growth spurt in her absence.

The soft melody of an older song played in the cassette player as Sherry clicked it on. The Jackson Five.

Hmm, she was impressed that Sherry even knew them.

The song was Got to Be There. Huh, how fitting.

“Aren’t you a little young to be listening to such old songs?” Amara makes her presence known, the smile Sherry wore is enough to make her have one in return.

Pushing herself off the ground, she practically jumped into her arms. “Amara!”

“Sherbear! Careful now, my ribs are still bruised from the last hug you gave me,” she jested, ruffling her hair. “How’s Hoffman treating you?”

“Like a fucking dictator.” There’s a particular heavy emphasis on the curse word. It was definitely new to her.

“Hey, watch that language.”

“Sorry. It’s just—“

“Yeah, I know.”

They wanted her here to quell Sherry’s frustrations with going from place to place. One could say she was essentially in the system. Considering how this country operated, no one wanted to be there but Sherry had a strange predicament to start. The cards didn’t really line up in any of their favors.

Unfortunately, soon enough, she’d be under the care of Derek C. Simmons.

It was the last option the government had. Amara had fought tooth and nail with the decision but there wasn’t much leverage on her part. Couldn’t exactly go against her own deal, really.

That man in question had something about him that made her stomach turn. He was like Irons 2.0, a general creepy vibe radiated from him that she didn’t like. He seemed the last person qualified to truly care for Sherry.

“When am I gonna get to stay with you?” She has a puppy dog look in her eyes. “I’ve never been more bored in my life.”

“Sorry kiddo, but I still have no idea,” Amara answered honestly, shoving a hand into her pocket. She didn’t want to crush the girl’s hopes. Wait. She almost forgot. “Sheesh, Sherry, your keychain!”

“Where from this time?”

Sherry had developed a strange knack for collecting keychains much like a mother collecting mugs from her kids in their many travel adventures. Amara thought it sweet and just about the funnest thing to pick up on her missions, the others assigned with her would make fun that she’d take the time to stop into the most touristy places just for a “silly” keychain but to see Sherry’s eyes light up as she looked over the fun designs made it worth it.

“Italy, can’t you tell by the moped?” Amara pointed out the cartoon, an over-exaggerated man speeding away on his blue Vespa and the damn near kismet colors of brown cobblestone streets against a teal-blue skyline on it made it one of the more artistic keychains she’d picked out for the girl.

Sherry, a little too perceptive for her own good, seemed to notice Amara’s overall demeanor underneath the smile she wore.

“I’m not staying here much longer, am I?”

“You know, in another life, I’d like to think you’d be a detective the way you pick up on so much,” Amara sighed with a sad smile, going down to eye level with the girl.

“When?”

Her head hanged low, she can’t say it…not directly anyway, not while seeing the sadness that would spring to the girl’s eyes.

“Next week. With Simmons.”

Amara inevitably looked on the bright side. Having someone as “important” as Simmons as her guardian guaranteed that no perceived threats could get close to the girl. The only threat that she could think of was Wesker (only second to the very government themselves). After the mansion incident and RC, Wesker’s body had never been recovered so that formed the only logical conclusion to come to that he still walked among the living.

“He gives me the creeps,” Sherry fiddled with a loose hem on her t-shirt, “a lot of creeps.”

“I won’t fight you on that, kiddo. But, he’s just about the safest option for you now and you know Claire and me fought hard on that choice.” Amara explained. “There’s a quote I heard once that went a bit like this…in any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.”

“This feels like the wrong thing.” Her voice is small.

“It’s better than nothing, right?” Amara noted. “Besides, it’s not like I’m going to just up and leave and never see you again. You’ll always have me, we are two of a kind after all.”

Midwest detox consultation underway

Hope Community Services has begun a community consultation process on a dedicated alcohol and other drug detox facility for the Midwest region.

For anyone starting on an alcohol and other drug (AOD) recovery journey, withdrawal (or ‘detox’) is the first step. Only once this first step is complete can a person move to a rehabilitation facility, such as the Hope Springs Therapeutic Community.

In other WA regions there are low and high medical withdrawal services available to support a person through the difficult detox period.

In the Midwest however, there are no withdrawal services available at all. People who want to start their recovery process must either undertake the process themselves, with no formal support, or travel hundreds of kilometres to a low medical withdrawal facility.

Medical withdrawal services

A low medical withdrawal service provides supervised withdrawal, usually in residential setting or at home. The process usually takes around a week, but can take up to two weeks in some cases. The closest low medical withdrawal facilities to the Midwest are in Perth, Kalgoorlie and Roebourne.

High medical withdrawal is an inpatient service staffed 24/7 by specialist AOD doctors, nurses and allied health workers. There is only one service in WA, located in East Perth.

Travelling is often impractical and often deters people from taking that first important step to withdraw. For those that do choose to make the journey, they end up leaving all family, friends and community behind during what will be a very difficult time.

“We know there would be enough demand in the Midwest because we see the referrals that come through the system that make their way down to detox in the city,” says HOPE CEO Merinda March.

“But very often people don’t end up completing detox. It’s not easy to get on a train or drive down to Perth on your own.

“When a person is ready to detox, they need access to a detox facility right then and there, at the point they are motivated.”

Community consultation

HOPE is currently undertaking an extensive consultation with Midwest service providers and stakeholders, with the intention of developing a business case for the State Government, outlining the best options for a dedicated detox service for the Midwest region.

Such a service will not only enable people from the Midwest to confidently start their AOD recovery journey, but also will give them the best chance of success.

To date HOPE has met with representatives from local governments, AOD service providers, health professional, WA police and people with lived experience of AOD issues. Alongside these face-to-face discussions, HOPE has developed an online survey to collect more information.

The survey is open to all health professionals as well as those with lived experience of AOD dependency, including the families and loved ones of those who have experienced AOD dependency.
