My Great Train Adventure: Random Photos

Step one: Print paper tickets JUST IN CASE (Pumpkin is always waiting for the crinkle-monster that lives in the printer to emerge)

Step 2: Jump a train. Pretend I took a photo (I did later) Amtrak Southwest Chief #4.

Sleeper cabin. Bunk beds; bottom is a sofa by day facing armchair and pull-out tray table.

Woke up in Arizona east of Winslow. I vaguely remember waking up in the night climbing into the mountains, probably near flagstaff, with white drifts heaped up beside the tracks: or was I dreaming? Living in southern California for 25 years, I yearn for snow, especially since COVID kept me locked in summer country.

First, though, the beautiful American southwest.

Look closely. That's a river, the Puercos. Floods a few weeks ago left puddles, plus there's bushes to tell, fresh-scoured sand.

Interstate 40 parallels the tracks now, but freight trains still travel from Los Angeles inland.

Lupton looks like a strategic trading post between numerous different Indian nations and pueblos (Navajo, Zuni, Hopi, Apachi, San Carlos and more) on the border between the US states of Arizona and New Mexico. Fleece the colonizers, go go go.

Seriously, this trading post has to predate the automobile. Train doesn't stop here now, but I bet it used to.

A few miles east is this homestead at the mouth of Surrender Canyon.

You'd be surprised at some of the lonely homesteads so far out that they have to be self-sufficient, but I'm hoping this one supplements a hard living with goods sold at that trading post.

Sushruta {renowned ancient Indian surgeon}in Sareera Sthana has mentioned that of the seven layers of the skin, the sixth layer Rohini is the seat of Galaganda.
