*after the Squad has been separated for a few years*
Greenland: So what have you been up to recently?
Faroe: Leading a revolution with Orkney.
Greenland: Good for you two! Me, I've joined the mob.
Faroe, nodding: Oh, how cool! That's awesome!
Greenland: I know! Anyway, have you heard from the others? Caithness?
Faroe: Happily living as a hermit in the woods. Iceland?
Greenland: Wrongfully locked up in an asylum, which reminds me, we need to break him out later. Shetland?
Faroe: Cult leader.
Greenland: Yeah, that sounds about right.

what dish from another country do you think norway loves? 🧑‍🍳
This is definitely not influenced by any of my own preferences 👀 But anything with seafood is a win with Norway, and I can see him going back and forth between seafood paella and fish n chips as his fave foreign foods ✨

I think I might be alone in this belief that Shetland and Orkney are actually older siblings of Scotland. I've seen people regard Shetland and Orkney as either his younger siblings or his children, but that's it.
Now why would I think of these two as older than Scotland? Because of their Pictish origins. There is archaeological evidence for Pictish presence in both archipelagos and Romans also noted their presence there. Orcades and Thule (or Haemodae and Acmodae)  were their Roman names, it should be noted though that Thule was used to refer to Shetland by the Romans but later Thule started being used to refer to Iceland instead.
After the Romans left, the Old Irish names Inse Orc (Isle of pigs) and Inse Catt (Isle of cats) were typically used to refer to them. Shetland's pre-Norse name "Inse Catt" may be connected to the Pictish tribe that evolved into the Pictish kingdom "Cait". (or Cat... basically Kingdom of Cat)  I have no idea about their human names because they're new OCs for me still. I'll first concentrate on developing their personalities, so far I feel though they're siblings who find themselves often being bossed around and nagged by their little brother. (though Orkney seems to have less patience than Shetland)
Scotland's modern name is Alasdair MacGregor and as a child he was called Oisean. (which means "fawn" as he often hung around with deer and was very fleet-footed) I have not decided when he changed it, possibly around the 11th century? I have written down "Valentia" with a lot of question marks as I briefly considered identifying Scotland with that Roman province but... location is really not good. From what I can see, the province was located just outside of modern Scotland and he wouldn't be as exposed to Pictish and Gaelic influences. So I've rejected the idea now. I wrote child Scotland as Picto-Gaelic because while he may have been born completely Pictish, not too long after that he started hanging out with Gaelic avatars. Hence why he was a Gaelic kingdom when he was officially founded.
I like the idea of Scotland being a nagging little brother to his two other siblings, as children he ranted at them for not becoming Gaelicized and as adults he likes emphasizing that they're Scottish and not Norwegian anymore. What became of the Picts that lived on Shetland and Orkney? No one really knows, either they were chased away by the Vikings, killed by them or assimilated.

Shetland: Wait, where's Ailsa? She loves Dungeons and Dragons.
Orkney: I thought Ida invited her.
Faroe: Well I thought Ari invited her.
Iceland: and I thought Sia invited her.
Greenland: and I never invited her.

who are Norway's kids?
Shetland - Fiona Orkney - Bodil Faroe - Ida Caithness - Ailsa Iceland - Ari Greenland - Aputsiak Vinland - Dagny (deceased)
They all have different human mothers, except for Shetland & Orkney who have the same mother; and Greenland who's mother was a Inuit personification.
As of modern day none of Norway's kids live with him, Shetland, Orkney, & Caithness live with Scotland. Faroe and Greenland live with Denmark; and Iceland is obviously independent.

Do you have any hcs for other misc grandkids of Germania ?
Hey anon, sorry this has taken me 3 days. I wasn't sure exactly what you meant but this so I have not one, but two forms of answer for you.
Answer 1. All of Germania's grandkids (in age order, including human names, and parent [that is Germania's kid])
Shetland - Fiona (Norway)
Orkney - Bodil (Norway)
Faroe - Ida (Norway)
Caithness - Ailsa (Norway)
Iceland - Ari (Norway)
Greenland - Aputsiak 'Sia' (Norway)
Vinland - Dagny [deceased] (Norway)
Åland - Kirsi (Sweden)
Kalmar Union - Karl [deceased] (Denmark)
Canada - Mathieu (England)
USA - Alfred (England)
New Netherlands - Otto [deceased] (Netherlands)
New Sweden - Johan [deceased] (Sweden)
Liechtenstein - Liesl (Austria)
Australia - Jack (England)
Germany - Ludwig (Austria/Prussia)
Luxembourg - Henri (Belgium)
New Zealand - Liam (England)
Austria-Hungary - Edith [deceased] (Austria)
Sealand - Peter (England)
Freetown Christiania - Benedikte (Denmark)
Kugelmugel - Franz (Austria)
Ladonia - Arvid (Sweden)
(there are definitely more that could be in this list but for now they're who I have)
Answer 2. actual hc, about them interacting with each other.
Tbh its a good thing Germania isn't alive, bc sleepovers at grandpas would be insane with this group.
You know how with cousins there is absolutely the age gap groups? The group that gets to sit at the adult table first vs the group that's gonna be at the kids table for the next decade?
group 1 is Fiona to Dagny
group 2 is Mathieu to Liesl
group 3 is Jack to Edith
and group 4 is Peter to Arvid
Karl and Kirsi got to be their own group :p (too young for the viking age cousins, too old for the America's cousins (and brother))
they have a stupid tradition when they play board games at family reunions to leave 5 extra settings(?) for the game out.
They throw stuff at each other at UN meetings.
Half of them don't understand each other even if they're all speaking the same language. (Henri stopped trying to understand a single word from Jack years ago)
Because of travel and stuff they didn't see each other regularly until like 50 years ago.
Now they rarely go 2 months without a full blown get together.
Norways kids, so Fiona to Sia, claim absolute reign as the eldest kid :)
The elders have gotten in trouble multiple times for sneaking the youngers out
Benedikte technically only has one older sibling, and Karl is obviously not around anymore. So Norways kids are basically her surrogate siblings <3
Henri! is the only only child in the group! He's got only child habits! his cousins are hellbent on getting rid of those!

ALRIGHT so, Sigurd's first great love was a woman name Fiona, she was technically Scottish. No one really knows what she was like because no one met her and Sigurd's stories of her seem to swing drastically every time he talks about her.
They had two daughters together, Liv and Bodil.
Liv the personification of Shetland is the older of the two, and the eldest of Sigurd's children; she's always been pretty quiet and rather keep to herself. Even around her family and people she knows. Liv always took her title as eldest sister very seriously, having six younger siblings absolutely influenced her personality. On the other hand though; she's very much stands there while one of her younger siblings goes "HEY she asked for no pickles". Sometime in the late 1600s or early 1700s she decided to start going by Fiona after her mother, but kept Liv as a middle name. Her human name as of 2023 according to the government is Fiona Liv Anderson.
Bodil the personification of Orkney is just a few years younger than her sister. Close enough that physically they're the same age. She's just as shut up as her sister around strangers leading a lot of people to believe they're just like each other. In reality Bodil just doesn't trust outside people, once she's around only family/close friends she's a firecracker. A lot of people think she's older then Fiona solely because she gives off a lot more In Charge vibes, I mean, Bodil literally means leader. She's extremely strong, like physically, and has had a few too many talks from Sigurd and Angus alike on why she Can Not Throw Her Siblings Around.

Scotland: We should at least ask. Norway, what do you think?
Norway: No comment.
I don't know if anyone outside the UK or Norway has heard about this, but Orkney has been looking into other forms of govern and they suggested they become a territory of Norway, operating independently. The UK has since said that this is unacceptable and will NOT be happening regardless. The official Norwegian response was basically just "this is an internal affair, no comment".
