I saw the Akari Arceus aspect, and it's very cute! Love that Akari gets to have a little buddy. Having the fourth starter option as God would be cool. In the au, what are the others' reactions? Does any of them get more suspicious of Akari? Does Volo recognise her new cool looks? Does he start screaming yelling crying etc when he finds out? I'm very curious over the degree of mental breakdown he'll have over this situation. Thanks!
Oh yea it would be really fun, especially since absolutly no one would have a clue what pokemon fraction Arceus is. Not even Akari.
Which would be an issue, Akari and a strange person just fall from the rift and later Akari gains aspects of said pokemon when only the Wardens are supposed to be able to do that? There's a lot of extra distrust from Kamado especially early on.
Tumblr media
Though I can see someone, maybe Ingo, comparing fraction Arceus to a deerling he vaguely recalls some merchant guild member describe years ago.
Tumblr media
With a conclusion that Arceus is most likely just some regional varient, ancient extinct evolution, or far future evolution of a deerling the total fear and mystery surrounding it fades to normal levels of distrust in Akari and her partner. Especially when it get's it's own entry in the pokedex
Tumblr media
Volo on the other hand, likely still has his suspicions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Upon realizing though, ohh I can see him absolutely loosing it. Maybe even thinking that if he killed Akari and captured Arceus then he would inherit it's favor thus it's aspects and power.

no but the thing is. they KISSED. on screen. it was a real scene, not deleted, not removed from a script, it HAPPENED in front of the world's eyes. and AND the actors are normal about it and the whole cast and crew is normal about it and it's not vague and it's IMPORTANT. no matter the rest of it and what came after it, it happened!!

Everyone wants to talk about the war crimes but not the fact that Dooku's solar sailer makes him the only green energy ecofriendly villain in the Star Wars saga.

No no you don’t understand - that it was Buck (and another guy) ripping the sleeves off Eddie’s PINK shirt is so interesting and loud. Pink representing innocence and naïveté this season as a theme - so Buck ripping off a sleeve (and waving it around) is a physical representation of buck being the one to rip away part of Eddie’s innocence- his naïveté

Anyway making Izzy an allegory for "the old era of piracy" and then choosing to kill him off to make way for the "new era of piracy," while also coding him to represent older queer culture is misguided writing at best, and outright cruel at worst.
I genuinely don't think DJenks realized what he was doing -- From reading his interviews, I think he just absorbed these tropes through society at large and then took them for granted. But FUCK man. If you're gonna target a queer audience, maybe reflect on the message your work is sending.

11/23 is good big brother day in japan (11/23 = ii nii-san) so, with that, after one and a half months of working on this, i present my very self-indulgent scenario of vash and knives being brothers and taking that first step to heal.
if you want to throw some support my way i have a higher-res pdf version on my ko-fi shop for $3 - no pressure obviously, this will remain free to read here on my blog indefinitely!
also i would like to give a quick thank you to @/nimpnawakproduction for their references on vash's scars which were pretty much my bible when drawing this LMAO

lloyd 'survived on one meal per day for years' frontera would absolutely see sharing food as a love language and javier 'lived in the streets for months as a child' asrahan would be fluent in it
i do believe there is a point in their lives where they both heal from the trauma of going through severe food insecurity but neither of them ever quite really forget just how important food can be. and when the other shares their food with them, they appreciate it as the show of affection it was meant to be

If you’re writing a qCellbit who’s a goth emo edgy bad boy type, make him ridiculously into online chess or something. Have him have a detailed excel spreadsheet of every horror movie he’s ever watched ranked and analyzed. He has a terrarium filled with dirt in his bedroom for his pet worms. He has entire Wikipedia pages memorized. Yes, he looks like he’d try and kill you, and sure he has a collection of pocketknives, but he practically lives at the library and is on first name basis with the old ladies gathering there for their book club once a week. He’ll beat the shit out of you if you mess with his family, but he doesn’t make a hobby out of being violent. His actual hobbies include puzzles and escape rooms and criticizing escape rooms for being too easy and getting stuck in escape rooms because he thought the solution was too easy but it was the wrong solution and he’s too embarrassed to try anything else.

with the arceus aspect, does akari get a cult postgame or smth? any nobles recognize her? does dialga n palkia?
Ah no I don't think so, part of the point of the fractions is that no one recognizes them as legionaries. They all know about Dialga and Palkia but Arceus. But Akari is likely too freaked after volo trying to kill her to tell anyone the truth. It's safer if no one else knows. Besides I think it would be funny if historians are forever baffled by this strange regional varient "deerling" that has no records anywhere else except for the first pokedex.

hater alert! far too many people say that juri’s character arc ‘isn’t about her being sad about being gay, it’s about being sad about unrequited love that happens to be gay’ and. well. that is not true and by saying that you are completely flattening the brilliance of juri’s character arc which literally culminates in her being able to accept her own lesbianism despite her unrequited love, despite all her shame and self-loathing, despite this pursuit by Some Fucking Guy to try and ‘save’ her from these feelings. like if you think juri’s entire character is just ‘sad about shiori’ how do you appreciate even a modicum of the emotion packed into that final juri duel. it is both about shiori and, even broader, her lesbian identity and what that means to her intrinsically as a person, removed from romantic relationships and just purely as like. you know. Who She Is. the idea that even when juri’s locket is cut from her neck she is still a lesbian that’s still who she is and she cant change that and, crucially, she doesn’t want to even as she is agonised by these feelings. that’s why she forfeits the duel!!!! she’s clocking out she’s quitting she’s saying no!!!!!! this is me and ive got to be ok with that this is me and i can accept that this girl might not love me and i can keep living despite that. like. god im so normal arisugawa juri im so sorry that no one understands you and your intrinsically unapologetically lesbian storyline like i do

I meant Hama and Katara... But thank you for the Kanna & Katara Link. I'll go theough it.
ohhh yes i obviously have so many thoughts on hama and katara as well..... hama is the embodiment of who katara could have become had a) her circumstances been slightly different (and worse) and b) had she had less emotional strength & resilience & desire to cling to her own humanity at all costs. like, the fact that katara gets multiple figures who embody the terror of her submitting to her most vengeful instincts and perpetuating the cycle of violence instead of working to end it is honestly quite beautiful, as that tension culminates in "the southern raiders" and katara lets herself prioritize her own humanity over her pain and rage and (totally justified) desire for revenge.
i know a lot of people think that hama and jet are the most politically confused aspects of the show, since they do play into the thing lok does where it's like "all oppressed peoples who employ radical means of resistance are simply cackling mustache-twirling terrorists," and while i do think that the way hama is framed at the end of "the puppetmaster" is in poor taste and lacks nuance, it's also pretty clear to me that a) their trauma is portrayed as sympathetic b) their stories are depicted as tragedies and c) atla doesn't actually demonize violent methods of resistance. like if katara wasn't literally the main character i'd feel much more comfortable making that critique (because lok does do this and it's liberal bullshit and it sucks), but we see katara use violent means of resistance as early as episode 6 of the whole show. she's literally framed as a hero for doing ecoterrorism; even when she's actually in the wrong in that situation, her desire to do whatever it takes to help people and encourage them to fight back against their oppressors is celebrated unconditionally.
the lesson katara has to learn from them is that she must never let her anger and desire for revenge consume her over her love for humanity and her drive to help people. jet and hama are both deeply traumatized in a way that made them prioritize wanting to wield power over others in the same way that they were once made vulnerable and helpless, and katara recognizes that instinct in herself too, that instinct in every person who has been subjected to that degree of violence. hama targets fire nation civilians out of spite, because she was once a regular girl from the southern water tribe who was targeted for reasons beyond her control, made to fight and treated like a villain. the reason she goes after "regular people" instead of targeting actual combatants is specifically because she knows that if the roles were reversed, the fire nation wouldn't care about differentiating her people in those roles; she's giving them a taste of their own medicine.
she used to be a resistance fighter who fought back against the imperialists on her land with everything she had, and it didn't work. she suffered unimaginable horrors, and in the process discovered an ability that would allow her to make others suffered the way she did. no, she's not a good leftist or whatever, but her motivation is understandable. she's driven by pain, not reason, just as katara and zuko are in "the southern raiders," just as aang is in "the desert" when he loses appa, just as sokka is in "the boiling rock." when one is hurting that badly, the desire to ease one's pain supersedes logic, supersedes one's core values in general, the values of grief taking its place. hama has been grieving her entire life; whoever she was before the raids is gone, and now she is someone shaped wholly by pain. and had katara not met hama, been traumatized by her, and thus vowed never to be like her, who knows whether she would have had the ability to take a step back and recognize within herself that she is standing over that precipice, and instead walk away from the threshold of violence, and back towards herself.

Thinking about step 9 and the whole concept of forgiveness of one’s self and others and it bringing healing and how bobby and Eddie have been paralleled a fair amount and the idea that Eddie started this process back at the end of s5 with his forgiveness and acceptance of his father but how he hasn’t yet gone anywhere near his mother and their relationship .
How his catholic guilt storyline seems more likely to play on his reltionship with his mother than his father (if his father wasn’t around that much it would’ve been Helena taking him to church etc each week) so the idea of an Eddie - Helena storyline that plays on catholic guilt and potentially his queerness in relation to that has me chewing on glass - it could be so epically good
#I’ve always viewed Helena as the biggest issue in Eddie’s relationship with his parents - Ramon has always - to me a least always seemed to#just go along with what Helena wants or dictates#it made sense with how his trauma ptsd army related arc played out that it was Ramon who was the centre of that#now though - catholic guilt - possibly playing into his queerness and suppression of that queerness#to keep some kind of reltionship with his mother - who only seems to view him through a lens of failure#leading him down a road where he wasn’t able to be his true self - it would be so powerful#there is so much potential there#eddie saying his mother wasn’t an issue in s6 - was such a choice and so pointed that they have to be wanting to explore that#so many aspects of who Eddie is and why he is the way he is - his want to nest but not being able to with women - stems from his mommy#issues and the fact he’s been denying they exist#I will eat it up - it would be the right kind of angst for the show and Ryan would deliver#plus the way it parallels with Bobby and his relationship with Catholicism would be fascinating#not to mention the whole Eddie not having a relationship with the faith he was brought up in only to start dating someone who is a literal#embodiment of that faith - and female - as a symbol of his needing to explore and reconcile the actual reasons for his faith lapsing- become#could not be queer and Latino and catholic when Eddie was growing up - it wasn’t an option - so if you step away from the faith that’s#denying a fundamental aspect of who you are#even if you still can’t act upon it - it is easier to keep that part of you concealed#911 spoilers#911 Thinky thoughts#eddie diaz#I need this arc to be a thing so badly#911 abc

a thing that occurs very often in media is that characters who are not in a relationship get treated as "less important" by the narrative. this is why david j*nkins thinks his show is kind to his queer characters- he regards only the queer characters who are in relationships as *the important queer characters* and yes, they did all get happy endings- but. but. now that con has officially confirmed that izzy goes through a coming out arc this season AND DIES - in a show where none of the other characters go through the same internal turmoil leading to self acceptance of their queer identities its becoming increasingly unclear how the writer himself could think this is a kind ending for queer people. and its becoming increasingly clear why izzy didnt get a love interest this season as well. if he did, could the notion that this isnt "bury ur gays" and kind be maintained so easily? its never explicitly stated in the show that izzy is gay, and im sorry but i think it was left this ambiguous on purpose. at the end he is not a queer disabled elder whos just begun to accept himself dying, he is just a father figure whos dying, plainly said by jenkins, changing the narrative completely - and we all know why
