Portugal Trip with 12 friends from US and Canada!
5 Stars via TripAdvisor and Google Reviews:
“Antonio crafted an amazing experience for 12 of us. From personal pick up at airport to all hotels and amazing dining. Not to mention 4 winery tours. We gave him some direction and he went with it. Nazaré, Óbidos, Fatima, Douro Valley, Porto etc. friendly and knowledgeable, he knows his country well. We were totally comfortable with him leading our tour.
Would highly recommend! You won’t go wrong!”
“…The level of knowledge and expertise displayed was truly impressive. Not only did Antonio have a deep understanding of the history and culture of Portugal, but he also had an incredible knack for storytelling, bringing each destination we visited to life in a way that was both engaging and educational. Antonio provided throughout the entire journey. He took the time to get to know each member of our group, tailoring the experience to our individual interests and preferences, and ensuring that every aspect of our trip was seamless and enjoyable…”
“Antonio did a masterful job of planning and executing our 8 day trip in Portugal. There were 12 of us in a bus and we spent time in Lisbon, Porto and Douro Valley. Antonio picked all the great sites (e.g. Sintra, Evora, Setubal, Nazare, Obidos, Shrine of Fatima etc...). We also had 4 different and amazing wine/port tasting experiences. The transportation and hotels were all great. Antonio knows everything there is to know about Portugal and we would strongly recommend Antonio and his company for those seeking a wonderful Portugal tour experience.”
“Antonio was a great guide! He worked with us weeks before our trip to assure our group of 12 people would see everything that each of us wanted to see! Portugal is a beautiful country with great history and great food and wine! We experienced it ALL! Thank you Antonio!”

Facheiro Da Praia
(pilosocereus arrabidae)
Its name roughly translating to ''beach light'' from Portuguese, this cactus fruit is endemic to the sandy coasts of Brazil. Containing many little seeds, the fruits burst open when ripe, revealing the colourful, succulent yet starchy pulp inside. Dihydrokaempferol, a flavanonol with various health benefits including anti-inflammatory and anti-viral effects, has been found in both the peel and the pulp of the fruit. While not widely appreciated, the fruit is often collected for local use. Pilosocereus arrabidae is currently classified as near threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
🌵 Reblog to share a fun fruit and to increase sample size! Check out even more interesting fruits here or in the list of all polled fruits. 🌵

A Nice River Walk - Porto, Portugal
Tumblr media
Today was our last day in Porto and we still had not made our way out to Ponte da Arrabida, near the coast. We decided to walk along the river, a little over 5 kilometers one-way and eat lunch near the town of Foz. It was a lovely stroll, lots of things to see along the way and it definitely got us away from the Porto crowds. We stopped for lunch at Eleven Concept - the food was delicious and colorful:

Doug's burger, not sure what was in that bun, but he said it tasted just like a regular bun.

My lunch - shrimp, sweet potatoes, salad, avocados, and beet hummus.

A little chocolate cake with warm caramel sauce and fruit - can I just say "YUM"!

One last look back at Ponte da Arrabida, the Atlantic Ocean in the distance, as we walked back to Porto.
One of the things I haven't mentioned about Porto - the beautiful tiles on a large portion of the buildings throughout town. Initially, covering walls with tiles was a sign of wealth in Portugal, but that isn't the case at this time. The best explanation I found was that their waterproof glazed surface helps to protect house walls from dampness. Here are a few of the tiled houses we saw:

Porto was beautiful! One of my favorite cities that we have visited. I loved all of the tiled buildings, the amazing vistas, the colorful tiled roofs, and the food and wine. Plenty of exercise walking up and down the cobbled, steep streets - make sure you bring a good pair of walking shoes when you come to visit this city on the Douro! Tomorrow we are headed to Lisbon - Adeus from Porto!
