Will you ever make a rendering tutorial? I really like your shading and coloring style a lot!
I may post a more detailed post later since I don't know which style you're referring to but here's a general jist-
My standard shading style:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It features dramatic lighting, a mix of soft and cell shading, and abundant use of different layer styles and masking... Overall the rendering gives the characters more depth than my other styles.
"MSPA" (lineless) style:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This style relies more on cell shading and anti-aliasing, with gradients being added only for lighting effects (I am a chronic foggy glasses user). Simpler overall to compensate for simpler anatomy.
And simplified style (Used for Chibi and other merch):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Exclusively uses gradients and minor cell shading. While gradients are not required, I just think it looks more complete than if it was flat-shaded.
Again, I'll prolly make a proper rendering tutorial in my own time, but let me know which one you'd like to see first!

Do you have a tutorial on how to draw fangs, I love how you draw yours!
Thank you!
I don't really have a formal tutorial I've made myself. When I first started drawing fangs, I would just look at other's tutorials. These days I just add some bulky triangles to normal flat teeth and add shine to them and that tends to sell "CHOMPS"
Depending on the picture, like if I'm drawing a monster, I'll look at pictures of actual animals showing their teeth.
I tried to make a speedpaint to show what I meant with the triangle thing and how I actually draw fangs but Clip Studio Paint records waaay too fast if you draw too quick BUT UM
MAYBE THIS WILL STILL HELP?

Art Progress:
Get inspiration- My default is imagination
Get a reference where needed- Heroforge is good for poses
Tumblr media
3. Sketch to your hearts content- I had to change the feet a bit to work better with what I had in mind
Tumblr media
4. Line art- now you can see better where you're headed!
Tumblr media
5. Color everything- ( I sadly do not have something to show the color phase :( )
6. Shading and rendering- I paired it with adding smaller details, such as the decals on Dresden's coat, shoulder pads and boots
Tumblr media
7. Do background- Slap color on color while you keep in mind where the light is coming from in the piece, the brain will fill in the context.
(How else do you think, you know that Ylthar is flying over trees?)
And there you have it! You have made art, Congrats!

I want to tell a story to the artists and would-be artists out there.
When I was 19, I made a large oil painting of the nerd I would eventually marry. I poured all my attention and care into this painting. It's the only art I have from back then that still holds up as a work I'm proud of today.
I entered it into a judged show at the local art center. It got an honorable mention. I went to see the show with my beloved model. One of the judges came up to talk to me, and highlighted that all the judges really liked the painting. It would have placed, except, you see, the feet were incorrect. They were too wide and short, and if I just studied a bit more anatomy-
I called over my future wife, and asked her to take off her shoe. Being already very used to humoring me, she did. The judge looked at her very short, very wide little foot. Exactly as I'd lovingly rendered it. I would never edit her appearance in any way.
The judge looked me in the eye, and to his credit, he really looked like he meant it when he said "Oh I'm so sorry."
Anyways the moral of the story is that all of those anatomy books that teach you proportions are either showing you averages, or a very specific idea of an idealized body. Actual bodies are much more varied than that.
So don't forget to draw from observation, and remember that humans aren't mass produced mannequins. Delight in our variation. Because it's supposed to be there.

[ID in alt]
Tutorial on drawing characters/OCs who have some sort of facial paralysis. It doesn't cover all possible variants because I was using mirror as my main reference lawl
Keep in mind that this is an introductory drawing tutorial and has some generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People 👍
Consider supporting me on ko-fi if you find this to be helpful.

my recipe for drawing hands!
(small note that this is a shortcut that is more abt style and ease than anatomical accuracy. it helps to take time to really properly study hands, makes it easier to bend the rules a bit like this and have it still look good!!)
(learn rules b4 u break them or whatevah)
