Black Angel - Part 8
Word Count: 247
A/N: We’re getting close to the end guys, the last part is almost here! I’m exciteddddd.
Music: Guardians at the Gate - Audiomachine
Bodies scatter the ground everywhere, demon and human. I feel arms around my shoulders and I look up to see Sebastian smiling down at me. But, something’s wrong. I can feel it. He glances down to look at his knife, still dripping with demon blood, and when he looks up, I glance into his eyes. They’re black. I realize that when I turned around to survey the damage done, the demon leader must have risen out of its old body, and possessed Sebastian.
“Sebastian, wake up! It’s me Artemis. SEBASTIAN IT’S NOT REALLY YOU SNAP OUT OF IT!” I pound on his chest, desperate for him to realize what was happening. I didn’t realize how much I relied on Sebastian until now. I feel my eyes start to well up with tears, and I wipe at them angrily. “Sebastian, please,” I whisper, sobbing.
“You know Artemis,” Sebastian whispers back, “I could never have truly loved you.” He slowly slides the knife into my chest. “You lack emotion.” He lays me on the ground and wipes the blade clean of blood. The demon blood left on the blade has come off into my wound, making it burn. Tears sting my eyes as I watch Sebastian stare down at me and no realization of what he’s done shows in his eyes. He starts to walk away, and my vision starts getting dark. My chest throbs. I watch as Sebastian starts to convulse as if he’s going to throw up.

Black Angel - Part 3
Word Count: 663
A/N: As promised, here is part 3 of Black Angel! This part is a bit longer, and I hope you guys enjoy it, if any of you are still reading. Xx
Music: Assassin - Audiomachine
As both Atlas and the other soldier waltz away, I slowly crawl out from my crouching position. I’m suspicious of Atlas because of what the seer said, so I follow him. He starts to walk between the tall buildings, winding an intricate path that he seems to have walked before. I follow him but make sure to keep far enough away so that he doesn’t see me. As he turns a corner, I peer around, watch him leave, then hide behind the corner to come up with a plan. I know he’s heading towards the army headquarters, so it should be easy enough to spot him, as all of the walls are made of glass. We couldn’t find anywhere else that wasn’t completely wrecked in the city, so this was the only place left. I pull out my handgun and pull a few bullets out of my strap. I don’t really compute what it is I’m about to do, only that whatever the outcome, I will probably be labeled a traitor. Well...as long as it wins us the war. Those demons deserve to rot in the depths of hell.
After loading my gun and putting it back in its holster, I silently slip around the corner and walk against the wall in the direction Atlas went. My heart starts to pump a little bit faster at the anticipation of a fight. I walk past a glass window and look in to see Atlas staring at me with dark, intelligent eyes. His eyes turn black, and a grin spreads across his face. My eyes widen. I try to reassure myself that there’s no way I could have known, but it doesn’t help. I don’t have much time to dwell on these new findings though, because Atlas pulls out his gun, and starts shooting through the glass. I give him one calm glance, and shoulder roll behind a corner. He walks towards me, still shooting through the window. As I roll out of his line of fire, I pull a gun strapped to my hip, cock it, and peer around the corner, knowing that the final blow has to be with the soul blade if I want to banish Atlas forever. I’m stunned to find that he’s no longer there. I start to turn around, and suddenly feel a pair of strong arms wrap around me, restricting my movement.
“So you’ve figured out my little secret, haven’t you? Who told you?” Atlas’ hot breath tickles the back of my neck.
I turn around and fiercely elbow him in the stomach, “Wouldn’t you like to know?” I smile at him acidically and grab his wrist. “I mean, I knew you were corrupt. But I didn’t know you were one of them.” I take his wrist, and wrench it behind his back, taking my gun and putting it up to his neck. “Any last words, succubus?”
“Yeah,” he reaches behind with his right hand and takes the gun, grabbing my wrist with his left hand and twisting. He spins around and puts the gun against my temple. “I hope gunshot wounds don’t hurt as much as they say.” He leans in close and sneers in my face. “Sweety, demons will always outsmart humans.” As he finishes saying, humans, I wrench my arm out of his grasp, reach up and grab his head, and pull it down hard against my knee. He drops the gun and cries out, his hands flying to his nose, blood seeping out between his fingers.
“Next time you’re about to kill someone, give up on the evil monologue. I’ve seen enough action movies to know that the good guy always comes up with a solution during the monologue.” I pull out the soul blade, put it against Atlas chest, and push all my weight against him. I watch as the lingering soul in the body shoots out into my blade, truly confirming Atlas’ death.
I have become the black angel of death.

Black Angel - Part 10
Word Count: 476
A/N: This is the last part guys! I’m working on a sequel, but it’s a bit slow going so let me know what you think of this whole series in the meantime! Xx
Music: Transcendence - Audiomachine
Sebastian’s POV
After Artemis has taken her last breath and her hand falls from my cheek, I hear a rumbling sound. I look to the side and realize that the newest wave of demons has come into place as I was holding Artemis’s hand. I see that Artemis’s body and I are much closer to the oncoming throng than I had thought, so I pick up her body from the middle of the battleground, and I carry her to the edge of the field. I glance mournfully at her body, tears cascading down my cheeks, and I turn back to the battle, anger burning in my throat. I will avenge your death, Artemis. Even if it was at my hands. My hand brushes down Artemis’ body one last time, and catches on something along the way. My eyes widen. A soul blade. Where on earth did she get this? I solemnly take the blade and sheath off of Artemis’ body, knowing it could come in handy. I walk towards the demon army, into the middle of the battleground, and pick up my own knife. As I pick it up, I see Katya, tears gleaming in her eyes and I nod towards her. When I turn back to the demon army, I see that the demon leader has found a new body to possess, and has come back to the battle, most likely to watch me suffer. He has a grin on his face as I walk closer and closer to the demon army, ignoring my army completely.
I hear his voice like a sigh, “You reap what you sow.”
I feel my lips moving in a battle cry rather than hear the sound. But I know what they say just as clearly as if I were hearing them. “FOR ARTEMIS,” they cry, and I hear my army repeat my cry. As a unified group, we slash through demon after demon, feeling no remorse. Before long, we’ve slain another army of demons, and I’m standing over the demon leader. The tip of my knife lies right above his face, and I can hear the sizzle as demon blood drips off of the tip and hits his skin.
“Any last words before I pull my knife across your throat?” I ask the demon, not really preparing myself for an answer.
“You know you’ll never win,” he says in his breathy voice. ”This is an eternal battle, fought by poor souls who have no recollection of what they’re doing.”
“I don’t care what it takes, I have to try. For her.”
“Believe what you want, child. This chapter is coming to a close.”
“No,” I say as I slash open his throat. “It’s only just begun.” I stand up and stare straight ahead, toward the place where the demons have been coming from, and I start running towards it.

Black Angel - Part 9
Word Count: 225
A/N: THE LAST PART IS NEXT AHHH GET EXCITED
Music: Solace - Audiomachine
Sebastian sees me lying in a pool of blood, and I can see in his face that he knew what he was doing all along. Somewhere, in the back of his mind, he knew what he was doing, but he couldn’t get past the demon’s control over him. He rushes over to my side and screams my name. “ARTEMIS,” he sobs. “Oh god what have I done? DEAR GOD WHAT HAVE YOU MADE ME DO?” Sobs rack his body as he lifts my hand to his cheek, the blood on my hand smearing onto his face. He looks into my eyes as my vision gets blurrier. “I didn’t mean those things I said, Artemis. I love you no matter what. You’re so strong, and I can’t imagine my life without you. I’m so sor-” he chokes on the words. He whispers, “I’m sorry.” Sebastian kisses my hand, and cradles my head in his lap. He kisses my forehead, and the last thing I see is his eyes. I reach up, and brush his cheek, then my hand falls limp. Right before I completely blackout, I see Sebastian turn his head as a new wave of demons comes in.
He turns around, and I see his eyes have returned to normal. The demon has done its job. It messed with Sebastian’s mind and fled the scene.

Black Angel - Part 7
Word Count: 415
A/N: Here you go guys, part 7 :)
Music: Turning Point - Apotheosis
The fighting continues for at least another few hours before anything of significance happens. Sebastian has given up fighting the demon’s leader, and moved on to more accomplishable goals. He’s mown through a few dozen demons, and continues to fight as if he just started. Slowly, the demons were beginning to lessen, their numbers to diminish while the army’s stayed more or less the same. The fighting began to slow, until eventually it stopped, and few demons were left standing, staring at the army in front of them. Among the few demons was the leader. He grins at Sebastian like he knows something that Sebastian doesn’t. And in fact, he does. We hear a faint rumble, and see in the distance a new, fresh army of demons. Sebastian turns to look at me, his eyes wide with horror. I could tell he was beginning to get tired, and so was I. We all start to run towards the oncoming slaughter, and we begin to kill demons left and right. But it seems as if for every one demon we kill, two take its place. Now our numbers seem to be decreasing rapidly, and nobody really knows what to do.
It seems as if we are bound to lose, when all of a sudden, all of our right palms start to glow. We look down, momentarily distracted, and see an intricate design burned into our hands. I feel a burst of energy surging through my body, stretching from the burn. I hear the seer’s voice inside my head. I did not count on there being so many demons, daughter of Severyn. My gift to you, to make sure you win. Atlas may have put that mark there, but he wasn’t the only one who could use it. So the seer gave us that last burst of energy we needed. She’s more helpful than she looks. After a few seconds of confusion, everybody bursts into action. We all move so fast, it looks as if demons are falling of their own accord. Within ten minutes, all but a few of the demons were left, the leader included in those that were living. The rest of the demons fled, but Sebastian walked confidently up to the demon leader, pulled out his knife, and stabbed him straight through the heart. I turned my back to survey the damage done.
“We should get out of here,” I hear Sebastian say. “A new wave of demons will be here pretty soon.”

Black Angel - Part 4
Word Count: 460
A/N: Here is part 4 guys! I hope you enjoy it. I realize it’s another shorter part...sorry!
Music: Wounded Heart - Audiomachine
As I walk away, I wipe my boots clean of blood. I know I’m supposed to feel remorse, but I feel nothing. I feel numb, cold. I can’t tell where I’m going, wandering aimlessly, but when I look up, I find that I’m back at my camp. I stumble back to my quarters, but before I can walk in, Sebastian spots me. Kind, gentle, loving Sebastian, whom I want to pour my heart out to, but I know otherwise. He looks crestfallen as I put my head down and walk past him.
“Artemis what’s wrong?” He looks genuinely concerned and I know he has a right to know what I did, but I can’t bear to tell him. I pull down the cuffs of my jacket, knowing that there is probably blood on my wrists, and I start to open the door.
“Nothing,” I reply, emotionless. When I reach for the doorknob, my sleeve tugs up slightly, and a bright red splotch of blood appears. Sebastian rushes over and gently grabs my arm.
“Oh my - Artemis, are you hurt? What happened? Where have you been? We need to get Atlas to take a look at you!”
“Sebastian, Atlas is dead,” I say flatly.
He looks at me incredulously. “That’s not possible. I saw him not ten minutes ago. He can’t possibly have died in ten minutes.”
I look at him, a purposeful gleam in my eyes. I put my hand on his cheek. “Sebastian, Atlas is dead. I killed him.” The words come spilling from my mouth as I watch him widen his eyes in horror. “A seer summoned me and she told me Atlas was corrupt. She told me I needed to assassinate him, and I didn’t question her. I went, I found Atlas, and he attacked me. He revealed his true form, a demon, and he nearly killed me,” I finish speaking, lowering my eyes to the ground.
When I’m finished, Sebastian hooks his finger under my chin and lifts my head so I meet his gaze. “Can I trust you?”
“Of course. When have I ever lied to you? You know,” I say with a hint of mischief, “all relationships are built off of honesty.” Sebastian laughs and pulls me into a hug. “I suppose we should probably go and tell Atlas’ second in command that it’s up to him to win this war.”
“Artemis, did I not tell you? The reason Atlas wanted to talk to me a few minutes ago was to make me his second in command. I’m in charge of the army now that he’s dead.” Sebastian looks at me, worry and excitement present in his eyes. “I guess I should call together the army and tell them now.”
“I guess you should.”

Black Angel - Part 2
Word Count: 182
A/N: I know that this is a short part, but I hope you enjoy it anyways. I will post part 3 today as well to make up for the shortness!
Music: As Daylight Dies - Audiomachine
I walk down the street towards my camp twisting the soul blade between my fingers. Before I can get to camp, I duck into an alley. I walk into the shadows and put the soul blade in a sheath on my hip. I put my back against the wall, and slide down to a sitting position. I sit there for about fifteen minutes or so, thinking up a rough plan. As soon as I’m done, I stand up and make for the mouth of the alley, but I stop when I hear footsteps, and duck back into the shadows.
“Have you seen Soldier Lyss anywhere?” I hear the sharp, barking tone of Atlas. Why is he asking after me? Does he know something? I lower myself further into the shadows and listen intently. “She’s been missing for about an hour now, and she’s known all evening that we step off at 0500 hours. If you find her, tell her she’s late and she’s to report to me.” I see the second soldier nod, and hurry off, most likely in search of me.

Black Angel - Part 1
Word Count: 774
A/N: Hey guys. So this is a project that I’ve had under my wing for years and I’ve decided to upload it here. Give me feedback please! Also, each part of this story has a piece of music that goes with it, so I will link that each time (just click the title of the song)! I know that most people won’t stop to read this, but it would be really cool if you could! Xx
Music: The Prophecy - Audiomachine
As I walk into the strange building in front of me, swathes of fabric draped over the windows lazily, I get a severe feeling of unease. I push aside the dangling bead curtains that cover the doorway and catch a glimpse of the woman I’m here to see, draped in the same fabrics that cover the windows, her eyes closed. At first, the lids of her eyes look like they’re smeared with dark maroon eyeshadow, creating a smoky effect, but I know better than to think that’s real. To the trained eye, it’s obviously a glamour. A glamour, a way to hide your true self, is commonly used by seers who see the future through supernatural insight. As I finally make out what the seer really looks like, I see that her eyeshadow is actually blood. It’s painted in intricate patterns along her lids, making her look sinister. Adding to the effect is the eyeliner, dark and winged, that makes her amethyst, almond-shaped eyes pop.
“My child, I have been expecting you for days now. Why do you come so late?” the seer asks.
I pick up a chakram, look at it interestedly, and plop it back on the coffee table. Sarcastically, I say, “I wasn’t sure I had the right place. You’re a damn hard seer to find, you know that?” She glares at me with a murderous look on her face, but her expression changes so quickly, it’s like I imagined it. “Why did you send for me?”
“You know, child of Severyn,” I cringe at the mention of my father, who died years previous in the same war that I am a slave to now. “The world is changing. And you are the solution. Come,” she motions for me to take a seat next to her, and I step forward, gracefully sitting down so quickly that the seer has to snap her eyes around to see where I’m going.
“Now, Artemis Lyss, give me your hand.” I do as she says, giving her a mischievous glance as I do so.
“Oh, we’re on that level of friendship now are we?”
“Sh,” she holds my hand in her palm, using her other hand to trace the lines of my palm. Her eyes snap open and she pulls back her hand as if she burned it. A mark appears on my palm, dark black and slightly red on the outside - my squad captain, Kazimierz, had put the mark on all of his soldiers to identify them should something happen. “You are in Atlas’ squad?” She looks at me with eyes so wide, I think she might be afraid, which is enough to make me slightly uneasy. Seers are easily frightened.
“Yes. What’s the problem?”
“Atlas is the reason I called you here today. I knew you were taking part in the war, but I did not know you were in his squad. This will make the task at hand trickier.”
“You still haven’t told me what I’m supposed to be doing,” I say to the seer, taking back my hand with an annoyed flick of my wrist.
“You need to assassinate Atlas. This war is going to be devastating no matter what, but if he is a colonel in it, there is no chance we can win. These demons are too strong and he is sided with them. He wants Earth to die a slow, hard death, along with all of the people on it. He is not completely human, and as such, deserves to die an inhumane death.”
Despite my look of composure, I am utterly astonished. I’ve been working for the enemy all this time. Sebastian needs to know. But, for now, I’m going to need to find out what this involves. “What do you need me to do?”
The seer grins maniacally. “I knew you would understand. Take this,” she hands me a weapon so small it could be a dagger. It has four blades coming out of an intricately designed hilt, all coming together to form a curve at the end with a small back tilt on all of them, allowing for grip once inside a wound. I look at the seer in awe.
“A soul blade? I’ve never seen one in real life, they’re so rare.” The seer smiles at me genuinely this time.
“A gift from your dear departed father,” she whispers. “This will not be easy, but I have faith in you, daughter of Severyn. You know what must be done. Go,” she waves her hand in my direction, and I find myself outside of her door again, staring down at the soul blade in confusion.

Black Angel - Part 5
Word Count: 275
A/N: Part 5! I decided to post this at the same time as part 4 to make up for them both being quite short.
Music: Eve of Battle ; Death Eaters - both by Audiomachine
“My family, I have asked you here to deliver this solemn news.” As soon as Sebastian said this, a murmuring breaks out among the army. “Atlas is dead,” he roars above the crowd. “And right before he died, he asked me to be his second in command. So it looks like I’m in charge as of now.” Sebastian surveys the crowd as if searching for looks of shock or disapproval. He finds none as they break into wide grins and cheer raucously. Sebastian smiles, and motions for them to quiet down. “So now, I need you to follow me into battle, as a unified group.” This was met with more cheers. “We step off at 0500 hours. That gives you 23 minutes to prepare your weapons and armor. I wish you all the best of luck, and I hope to see you on the other side.” As he finishes talking, Sebastian jumps off of his platform and is circled by the army, who form the traditional web of arms that signifies an oncoming battle.
As the army breaks apart to go and gather their supplies, the medic Katya walks up to me and pats me on the back. “I know this must be hard for you to handle, Artemis. But I’m sure Sebastian will be fine. At least, Atlas thought so because he made Sebastian second in command.”
“I’m fine, Katya, really. It’s just another responsibility someone has to take on, and I’m glad Sebastian gets the chance.” Katya looks at me with concern but knows not to ask any questions. Instead, she squeezes my shoulder affectionately and turns to go and gather her supplies.
