Anyway, AU where the profs actually stick around and eventually become teachers at the Academy I guess. My dumb wild brain idea was that Clavell had the bright idea of "Since the time machine project is dashed y’know what we should do? We shgould all go work at the Academy.” Jacq was pulled along on similar train of thought (I think he only joined the tera orb project a little later as a trainee, but wasn’t close enough to the profs to hear about their time machine thingy unlike Clavell).

Clavell and Turo are very much on the same page of being old men who are shit at modern day culture. Sada on the other hand...  she revels in their dumbness. Poor Arven lol. I’m thinking they might be teaching assistants/only teaching part time. Maybe working on experiments that eventually lead to Koraidon and Miraidon being lab created rather than time machine pulled.

They basically take up the currently empty other half of Clavell’s office, the labs! And yes I ship all three of them together lmao. Imagine the chaos lkjsdfg. Also the shenanigans to be had there after school hours, if you get my meaning lol. I’m sorry lsdfkjsd. My nsfw twitter account will hold more poly junk in the future I guess (No minors please.)

Also FYI I’m running with my idea that the AI professors we see are actually just their youthful appearances frozen in time. In present day, the actual profs would be aging, sort of looking like this.

HE’S EVERYONE’S DAD, YES.

I plan to draw or write something about Clavell and my character (who I’m gonna keep call Juliana cause I still don’t have a name for her) because I want Juliana to see him as a parental figure and all this. (Daddy issues strike again). She doesn’t have the best father, she doesn’t even see him much since he’s in another region. So, during the Operation Starfall she was like “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe this dorky old man is the perfect dad ever????” And went on with it ahah

Penny as well. Maybe not as deeply as Juliana but she also started to see Clavell as someone she can count on, you know? He helped her and her friends like no one else ever did, he tried to understand them instead of judging them.

Nemona, being the president of the academy student council, is very close to Clavell on a daily basis, they’re basically besties and she knows she can counts on him for everything, even when her parents aren’t exactly the best and most present people ever, you know? They often buy each other coffee (I did that with one of my fav teacher at school lol) or tea and chat about everything and battle, ecc.

How Pokemon S/V characters make a person feel better (mega list):

Iono: Tries to give them a shoutout on their streams or requests the chat to send words of encouragement.

Hassel: Hugs and cries with them until they both calm down (protect this gay old man at all costs).

Grusha: Is very socially awkward about it, but tries to give harsh, but true words of wisdom to get the person back to reality. Does genuinely feel bad, but often has no idea what to say.

Larry: Like Grusha, he is very socially awkward and does feel bad for the person, but doesn't have any idea what to do besides offer to take them to the Treasure Eatery to eat and drink their sorrows away. Larry gives great life advice when the situation calls for it, but too many people see him as "bland" before he can get a chance.

Dendra: Is a hugger and offers to take the person for a run or helps them with her ESP training.

Arven: Tries to help them calm down by letting them vent to him and he even may make you some food to help ease tense emotions.

Penny: Feels very uncomfortable, but tries to give words of comfort.

Nemona: Tries to distract them by battling or motivate if they don't feel like battling or don't have Pokemon.

Geeta: Basically the pragmatic mom friend. She would give master class life advice and make them some tea or coffee to talk over their worries.

Poppy: Literally a child, but would try to relate their worries to something that happened to them in school recently in an attempt to exhibit empathy.

Rika: On the outside, Rika looks like they don't care, but holy crud they are the Ulitmate Parent friend. You need something like coffee, a blanket, a hug, someone to talk to, or anything else? Rika is on it immediately. They don't look like it, but Rika can make most people comfortable with them just with their sense of humor and nonchalant personality. Heck, they might even bring out their Clodsire to cheer the person up because it has never failed before. Rika and Geeta are basically the sages of life advice in all of Paldea.

Tulip: Tries to boost your confidence by telling them not to bother with negative people or toxicity. She would recommend to focus on their positive traits and internal/external beauty. Mini mom friend.

Clavell: The spiritual dad for all Academy students. Not only does he cares deeply about their wellbeing, but tries to relate despite his old age. He would make them some tea and try to make his speech more relaxed to ease their tension.

Miriam: Another big hugger. Will not let them leave until she knows they are alright and safe. Her soft voice can calm the most angry of people.

Katy: Offers them one of her bakery items and tells them life is full of bitter and sweet moments, but overall a delicious treat and not to worry about the small stuff.

Brassius: Like Hassel, he probably will cry with them, but he may suggest taking up a creative outlet to release stress and offers them one of his art classes.

Saguro: Looks like he would make your anxiety worse, but he is a huge softie. His baby pokemon make everyone feel better and he is also a great cook!

When arven found out his mom/dad died long time ago and there AIs took there place, Arven was hurt very hurt. While he said he was fine and his head was clear you could tell he was still struggling in a dark place in his mind and you didn't want him too be in the dark cloud of circle that you were in.., you knocked on his dorm and he yelled "come in!" As you walked in you could see he wasn't happy..., you could tell he's been crying and felt lonelier then he probably ever did when his parents left him. "Hey Arven are you doin ok..?" You asked walking too him as he sighed "too tell the truth I'm not sure..., I just feel like something should've been done- I feel like I was the reason they left" "......Arven.....you know that's not true.., sada/turo just let themselves get absorbed in there work forgetting they still had a kid.., like the AIs said they still loved you. They probably were overworking trying too finish something that could be seen as impossible.." you said too him as he started sobbing "I know I said my head was clear but I just don't understand why they did what they did. I want them back but I know they ain't coming back..." he said trying too calm down as you hugged him and held him as Mabosstiff came on the bed cuddling you both "Arven shit happens and sadly you can't control it.., I know you deeply miss them and I get it...I think maybe you should take a break and rest your mind, talking about it can help but it'll hurt, just do stuff that makes you happy too get your mind off things for a while. A year has passed and you found yourself in that same place but more deeper.

Finals were coming up and you were already stressed as it is, you had recently fallen out with another friendgroup, that had constantly had mayor problems and you didn't wanna say anything because you trusted someone and you were one of there "friends" that they would talk too about others but you found out they've been shit talking you and said some horrible things especially about not being able to control your emotions around them, you didn't know why, you were attach too them before and begged for there attention so much you even had a crush on them but you didn't act on it and realizing you were only being used hurt and you didn't wanna believe it but here you are. In your bathroom having a panic attack sobbing uncontrollably, those thoughts swirled your mind "abandon them" "stay" "useless" so much you had soo much stressed on you and you felt like an outcast , sure you had penny and Nemona but Nemona was wayyy over the top wanting too battle, very loud and not giving you space. Penny wasn't good either, she didn't talk much and while she listens too you she doesn't comfort you at all because she doesn't know how, you can't blame her...,

Arven noticed you been missing class a lot and have been failing classes, Arven got worried and skipped class for the day goin too your dorm, once he opened the door he heard your voice coming from the bathroom , he quickly realized it was a panic attack and tried too open the door "[Name]! Open the door please!" He could only hear your muffling words of "don't come in here please I'm not worth it" it broke him...you've been there for him and he didn't realized your mental breakdowns your tiredness , lack of eating Or any signs, you had been masking it and he feels so horrible for not realizing it sooner

"Please listen too me [Name]. Your worth so much please open the door I can help you but if you don't open the door I can't save you. You saved me let me save you!!! " after that it made you snap out of it and opening the door and getting tackled into a tight hug and being picked up taking too the bed and being sit down on it while Arven helped you threw a panic attack trying too calm you threw it and when you finally calmed down Arven held you tightly "I'm so so sorry I didn't see it sooner..." "Arven I didn't want you too worry you were having Trouble with your mental health especially after so much I couldn't let you save me..I wasn't wo-" "shut it! Yes you are! [Name]! I love you ! AI!Clavell Headcanons/ Some General Sada and Turo Headcanons

Silly headcanons about the AI!Clavell AU (and on Sada and Turo in general lol)

Mainly Sada though lol

When they first arrive at the academy to be Acting Director (until Clavell arrives, it's just for another year right?), they aren't ready to be met with the mess resulting from the Team Star incident. Arven has to fill them in on Team Star.

Turo wants more info before making a decision, Sada wants to know the full story as she's only been given bits and pieces that all point in different directions

Arven ends up giving them his old uniform for "Sabine" and "Trent" to use (not without teasing them)

Turo- I mean Trent- is better at pulling off the look of a student, but is so hopeless with memes and slang that he comes across too stiff

("Arven, one of your classmates called me a... DILF, I think it was?" "DAD! WTF!")

Sada/Sabine is better with memes and slang, but like Clive dresses... 'too hip' lol

(Try and tell me Sada doesn't know she's a MILF and runs with it)

Sada comes to rely on the two men in her life for support after Turo leaves her/disappears- Clavell and Arven.

She has a tendency to say "What would Clavell do?" When she has a problem she isn't sure how to go about

While Acting Director of the school, she at first panics

She has no idea how to do this

Tyme is the one who helps her and takes on the role of deputy director

Arven is around 7-8 when his mother reenters his life. He's very wary at first when she says she's not leaving any time soon, but after a year he's accepted and loves that she is devoting more time to him

As they actually are there to raise and spend time with Arven, he's very close to them. He's still stubborn, independent and loves cooking, but he is also protective of his parent. He is also a bit more like Sada/Turo- if his mother raised him, he can be more emotional, more empathetic at times, and is close to his mother's Volcarona; if his dad raised him, Arven is a bit more quiet, more logical, thinks everything through before acting, and is close with Turo's Donphan.

Sada and Turo are close friends with Sycamore, Lysandre, and Juniper, so much so that when the events of XY occur, they're in shock of Lysandre's plan

This friendship is also how they meet Jacq, Sycamore's younger half brother

Sada is buddies with Roark, Brock, Lenora, and Byron- they often geek out over fossil Pokémon

Turo has a soft spot for the Porygon line and Genesect. He just thinks they're neat, okay?

When getting the call Arven entered Area Zero and Mabosstiff was badly injured, they can't forget the wail their son made when they first picked up

The professor would scold him for entering Area Zero after making sure he is alright and getting Mabosstiff to the nearest Pokecenter, only to regret it when he tells them he went to find Clavell after seeing how worried they are about their friend.

They are determined alongside Arven to help Mabosstiff recover

Sada was up late looking at past practices of healing Pokémon when she knocks the Scarlet Book off her desk, and finds it had opened up when it fell to the section on Herba Mystica.

She gives Arven the book and tells him about it, figuring they had nothing to lose at least looking into it

(She didn't expect her son to not only look into it, but to search it out, fight the Titans, and find the Herba Mystica)

More Pokemon Violet and Scarlet Chars!

I'm back with more character talk for Pokemon Violet! This time I have now offically finished all the main storylines so I have all the context now. Rika

Alright~! I'll be doing Rika first since she was specifically requested. She was another character whom I wont lie, I mistook her gender at first until I read the pronouns, I legit thought she was either a dude or perhaps nonbinary? But tbh I love Rika and her personality. She gives me like; "Cool older sister" vibes, particularly due to her interactions with a certain steel-type user. (I would ALSO like to know where she got those earrings cause I'd love a pair of those, this is coming from someone who doesn't wear jewelry, like, ever.) I would honestly love to have her as an older sister, or a girlfriend, cause she also gave me a BI panic. Just not as extreme as the one Grusha gave me. Turo

I literally just finished the main storyline not even five minutes ago as I'm writing this, so I HAVE to do this man cause I have THOUGHTS on his ass! (BIG SPOILERS FOR THE MAIN STORYLINE ENDING AHEAD. DO NOT READ PAST HERE IF YOU DO NOT WANT SPOILERS) I'm going to talk about the AI Professor Tur and the real Professor Turo as separate entities. Starting with the real Professor Turo, this man from what we are told about him... he's well...interesting. I personally have mixed feelings towards him, on one hand, I get the impression he was a little too invested in his little time machine project and didn't spend enough time with this son Arven, but on another hand he was definitely a clever man and the AI's last message to Arven about his dad is enough to soften my impression, but not enough to exonerate him, at least in my eyes. the AI Turo is quite interesting, to me it seems that he's choosing to, with the help of the other four, shut down the time machine of it's own volition, judging by the security protocols that you as the main character have to fight through, I don't think the real Turo would have shut the machine down. It wanted to explore the world but could not due to needing to stay near the time machine to stay functioning. I find the thought of the AI Turo having it's own adventure in the future quite interesting to think about too. Penny

Penny, my GIRL! I absolutely love Penny to BITS! I relate to penny quite a bit as a character, I myself used to be a victim of bullying and know what it's like. Her conversations with Arven in specific as you travel through area Zero are extremely amusing, as well as her reactions in general to Nemona's energy. (Her entire team of eeveelutions definitely didn't make me like her more at ALL~) Honestly I want that backpack of hers SO bad. It's so cute and I love eevee! She somewhat reminds me of Pidge Gunderson from Voltron Legendary Defender. However I think Penny is a litttle bit more socially awkward than Pidge is.

Oh my dear god where do I start with this man??? He is lil bit extra and I love him! His entrance actually scared the shite out of me ngl, did not expect him to pop up on the fucking windmill. Also I'm saying it now, I saw his lovely vine whip that's secured around his waist and the first word out of my mouth was, "Kinky!" no lie. I definitely see him as a bit of a theatre kid mixed in with his artist kid. I also reallllly wanna poke the pointy bits in his hair, even if it might cut me. (I wont lie though he was super easy for me as a gym leader cause by the time I got to his gym I was extremely over leveled.) Alright! Another four down! I can do more if anyone wants em~! Arven + “Adoptive” Dad Peony Headcanons

i think arven deserves some fun son-dad time with the most dad of all characters, ✧peony✧

♡ Peony tried to enroll with Peonia in the Academy because he heard about how fun the annual Treasure Hunt was

♡ Unfortunately, she once again decided to dip and instead hang out with her buddies to make their own adventures in Paldea

♡ Peony, in normal Peony behavior, decides to go anyway? Why not, right? There are plenty meemaw and peepaw students around too. Besides, the Director and teaching staff seem nice

♡ Instead of making a sandwich for his Home Ec project, he makes some curry because he was feeling a little homesick and his pokémon were craving some

♡ Cue Arven who looks at him with sparkles in his eyes. The young man is not at all subtle with the glances he throws at the delicious smelling food.

♡ Peony happily serves him a bowl, and Arven splits his sandwich in half. Both are in bliss with the yummy food.

♡ “That was ultra-mega tasty, son!”

♡ “S-son?!” arven(dot)exe has stopped working

♡ Obviously, Professor Saguaro is impressed with Peony’s work but gently reminds him the project was a sandwich. It’s all good though. He can always do it again.

♡ Arven regains his bearings, and volunteers to assist Peony. Being one of Professor Saguaro’s best students makes it easier.

♡ Peony thanks him, and they agree to spend next lunch period together to discuss recipes.

♡ Arven tries very hard for Peony’s sake. He seeks out other students’ advice to increase Meal Powers.

♡ The hard work pays off, and soon enough they have a master tier sandwich. Both Arven and Peony do so well that Saguaro even requests that they spare some extras for the rest of the class to try.

♡ Their food becomes such a comfort food for the class, that even the staff and Clavell have been known to linger outside the Home Ec room.

♡ Every time Peony kindly asks him to chop up some veggies, or to boil some eggs, Arven’s inner child weeps with happiness. This is the kind of thing he always wanted to do with his parents.

♡ He watches Peony take the bulk of the work. When he’d been assigned other partners before, he preferred to do the work all on his own, but now, Arven is content to assist.

♡ Peony likes to talk. A lot. Most of it consists of theories on legendary pokémon, but sometimes Arven gets a glimpse of Peony’s life before and outside the Academy.

♡ Sometimes, Arven finds himself wishing he had the father Peonia was blessed with

♡ Peony, with the sweet and bubbly disposition he has, hands Arven another of his custom made clothes. Arven is fighting off tears as he holds the cheery orange jacket in his hands.

♡ “You have my ultra-mega thanks.”

♡ “This is too much.”

♡ “Nonsense! A young man deserves a good, comfy jacket. What with the Treasure Hunt coming up.”

♡ The mention of the upcoming Treasure Hunt reminds Arven of the question he’d been meaning to ask all semester.

♡ Peony beats him to the punch.

♡ “Hope you don’t mind matching with this old man!” Peony is proudly donning his own orange jacket. Arven is choking back tears at this point. “I already plotted out our Adven-Tour!”

♡ “Thanks, Peony.”

♡ “No thanks necessary, son.”

“i’m home!” you shout as you walk into your childhood home.

your father pokes his head out from the kitchen, giving you a wave.

“you haven’t seen me in a whole month and i can’t even get a hello?” you pout.

“hello, i’m so glad my spoiled brat decided to grace me with their presence,” larry quips, in a monotone voice.

you stick your tongue out at your father before making your way to your bedroom to set your things down. upon returning to the kitchen, you find him finishing with some cooking.

“i made enough for you, don’t worry,” larry takes the plate to the living room, setting it down on the coffee table.

you pick up a bottle of water for yourself and make your way into the living room.

“i figured you were coming home, so i didn’t make them extra crispy,” larry picks up one of the rice balls and begins eating.

“how’d you know i was coming home?” you ask, mirroring your father’s actions.

“hassel told me your break started today, and i know you tend to check up on me because of work,” larry states, matter of factly.

“oh, right! that makes sense,” you reach for another rice ball.

“he also told me you’re having a hard time paying attention in his class.”

you glance over at your father, “no i’m not? he always has my attention. i probably pay the most attention to him actually.”

this causes larry to chuckle, “that’s not what he tells me. hassel tells me you’re always staring just past him.”

“you guys gossip about me at work? what happened to battling?” you whip your head over to your dad.

“it’s been slow lately,” he says, stuffing another rice ball in his mouth.

you choose to drink some of your water before speaking, “hassel is a snake and is now dead to me.”

“you’re being overdramatic.”

“well, your father doesn’t know that you have a crush on someone does he?” you roll your eyes.

“so it is a crush, got it. when can i meet them?” larry turns to you, a small smile resting on his face.

“never,” you get up from the couch, pulling your phone out of your pocket.

your father calls your name, causing you to turn and look at him, “tell arven i said hi for me.”

“tell hass to count his days,” you huff, making your way to your room.

a rhythmic buzzing from the nearby coffee table interrupts the peaceful evening between hassel and brassius.

glancing down at the table in front of them, hassel notices it’s his phone causing the new sound in the room. he untangles his arm from around his lover and reaches for his phone.

“sorry, i have to take this. it’s… larry?” hassel states, confused as to why his colleague is calling now. the two rarely talked outside of their time spent at the league.

“don’t let me stop you,” brassius sits up.

“hello?”

“hey, just wanted to give you a heads up. your self-proclaimed nibling* is mildly upset with you.” larry explains, taking the plate from earlier to the sink.

“what happened?” hassel asks cautiously. last he saw them was before they left the academy. they wished him well over the break. what could have possibly happened between then and now?

“they know you told me about the whole arven thing. they’ll get over it, don’t worry too much about it hassel. i just figured i’d give you a heads up.”

“thanks…” the blond sighs, feeling himself get a little teary-eyed.

“i’m serious, don’t beat yourself up about it. i’ll talk to you later hass,” larry ends the phone call, leaving hassel to sigh once more.

brassius turns to his lover, “what was that about? is everything okay my love?”

“larry’s kid, the one i pointed out when you visited my class, they’re... mad at me right now apparently.” hassel sets his phone back down on the nearby table. 

“it can’t be that bad,” the other male chuckles, stroking his lover’s arm in a comfortable manner. “knowing them, they’ll forget about it before the break is over.”

“i hope so,” the dragon trainer leans over to brassius, giving the gym leader a kiss on his temple.

Next year’s treasure: a fucking elevator

So, Arven carries a lot of supplies with him. He’s got a weird relationship with gender where he’s definitely a guy, but finds himself relating more to terms like Eldest Daughter Syndrome and Mom Friend. He doesn’t consider himself particularly gender nonconforming; at least, not on purpose. He just thinks the binary of gender roles is stupid and he wants to opt out.

Why is it a gendered trait that he raised himself, that he shows affection for his friends by making sure they’re well fed because his mom and dad were never around to cook for him? Why is it a gendered trait that behind the uncaring facade he puts up, he's actually quite anxious, especially after what happened to mabosstiff, and he likes to be prepared for any situation? Why is it a gendered trait that he doesn't expect anyone else to take care of him, doesn't want to be taken care of as much as he desperately craves it, and keeps all his baggage, emotional and physical, to himself?

Still, it’s heavy. It’s a lot  to carry around, especially up the stairs. So, Penny is exhausted. All the time, actually. Her therapist says it’s a trauma response, that all of her energy goes towards processing and healing from the bullying she endured, and she’s been nearly a shut-in for so long that her constitution is shit.

And then there's her transition-- objectively, coming out of her shell and coming out to her parents was a net positive. Back in the days when her denial was at its peak, she buzzed her hair short, trying to prove something to herself, to her bullies. Looking back, that haircut feels like an act of violence against herself, but now she is growing it out, and has to admit she feels cute more days than not.

Dysphoria still flares up from time to time, but Penny's got a cute backpack, a skirt and patterned leggings, a knack for wearing just enough eyeliner to make people question if she's wearing makeup or just has pretty eyes. Right now, her gender goals are Just Some Girl. And she's getting there. She doesn't need to be some exaggerated model of femininity, she's just another girl in the crowd, kinda cute but not in a way that stands out.

But now that her body is running on estrogen, now that she's no longer literally running from her problems, her muscle mass...well. It's seen better days. She'd like to maybe build up her stamina, but school makes it hard.

Especially those damned stairs. So, Nemona is disabled. The compression sleeve normally keeps it under control, but it's an aid, a tool, not a cure or a perfect fix. Her gross motor coordination with that arm isn't good enough for a lot of sports, she struggles to throw pokeballs, and it gets sweaty and gross sometimes, which is unpleasant.

The specifics of it are, basically, a somewhat benign growth on her blood vessels will swell up and press uncomfortably against the nerves if she's not careful. It's not hurting much for now, and she knows her limits, but she's sort of looking forward to the day she's old enough to get it surgically fixed. She's got to wait until her body is fully developed for that-- something about pediatric surgery being a risky endeavor-- and honestly, that's okay. Makes sense to her.

She knows her limits, knows what kinds of exercises she can do without exacerbating her bad arm, and she's got more hobbies than battling. She's got friends to hang out with, friends who understand, even. So most days, she's fine with being a little disabled. There are worse fates out there, and it's taught her how to get creative and work around limitations to find solutions.

But some days, she resents it. Because her arm is always throbbing with pain by the time she makes it up the academy stairs.

So, the new transfer student is something of a force of nature. Defeating titans, collecting gym badges, and sweeping through Star bases like it’s nothing. Everything has changed since their arrival, like a revolution in process, and by the look in their eyes, everything's going to keep changing, and for the better.

Quick overview on Lilli's Pokémon... Rewrite? Verse? Idk what this is lmao

All I really know for sure is that I have a lot of thoughts about pokemon's lore and plotlines. I want to try my hand at connecting stuff with a little more continuity because it's fun! There's no way I can get to everything because we'd be here all day, but I figured I'd set up the basic premise and include some fun notes/headcanons!

My general idea is focusing from the anime (up until Horizons) while also including more components from the games (such as more of the SWSH plot/rivals, Emma from XY's post game, Zinnia and the Delta Episode, etc). I also include a multitude of my own original characters, along with some of my friends' (most prominently @starkitters's goobers). Storylines are generally divided up by "sagas" based on the original generation they take place in! I may include some Horizons as it would coincide with ScaVio, but I need to catch up with that series (though from the looks of it it’s all pretty banger)!

This concept is definitely going to mostly get smaller things of art/comics/drabbles and whatnot rather than a full-fic/comic series or whatever because... oh gosh there's way too much. Also obviously not going to cover every single anime episode bit by bit because that would make me insane!!

As for a general timeline— a lot of this main stuff would kinda unfold in the span of 2-3 years? I might make it longer, but then again a lot can happen in even just a month, y’know? Generally, Ash would stay 10 between Indigo League-Advanced, 11 by DP-XYZ, and 12 during SuMo-Journeys. The Legends Arceus shenanigans would probably be during Journeys and the ScaVio stuff is definitely after (I'm thinking potentially a year or so after Journeys' saga would be wrapped up? Though it could even be immediately after idk).

There is. A ton of information even just in this little intro post, and a lot of it isn’t even fully concrete either. But if you find the time to read through it all, I’d really appreciate feedback!

General/Introductory Information

Earlier involvement from rivals/evil teams such as the Galar Rivals, N and Team Plasma, Team Skull, etc! All of that will be covered more in the respective sagas they all appear in, lol

I'm kind of on the fence for whether or not more player characters would be included? May, Dawn, and Serena are canon companions/major characters the anime, I'm including Brendan as Birch's son and Lucas as Dawn's twin brother, Akari and Rei are both going to be native to Hisui, etc.

So far, the mc roles that are taken up by OCs include my characters Lilac (involved in XYZ/SuMo but becomes a Swsh Gym Challenger), Stacy (Emmet's daughter, travels back to Hisui to find her missing Uncle), and Chrys (main Naranja student involved with Nemona, Arven, Penny, and also Kieran and Blueberry stuff). @starkitters's oc Arthur also kinda takes an mc role as Hop's bestie/neighbor and the two of them work with the knight-wolf duo (Zacian and Zamazenta) instead of Ash and Goh just kinda... feeling shoved in there. Ash and his Journeys buddies still get involved in the Darkest Day shenanigans, but another Gym challenger/Hop's bestie)

While characters like Red and Blue/Green aren't really going to be involved since Ash and Gary already kinda take up those roles, there is potential in making like... Ash's dad a Red-esque character? A character based on Leaf? We've also gotten cameos of Jimmy (Gold/Ethan) and Marina (Krys) from the old OVAs and Lyra is briefly seen during DP... but tbh we get so little on them it wouldn't be too difficult to make the OVAs an au or something? I'll have to play with all of it.

The Black and White/Best Wishes saga is going to get some major storyline reworks. Team Rocket (Jessie, James, Meowth, and Wobuffet, etc) aren't going to start actually doing evil shit/working directly with Giovanni out of nowhere. Rather, they get have their own route uncovering stuff about N and Team Plasma, which follows more of the storyline from BW1. Characters from BW2 like Colress and Hugh are definitely still going to appear and their deal won't really change too much, but I'll have to figure out their involvement (especially with Colress he’s got a lot of potential for his own stuff imo). Cheren and Bianca are in a "halfway" sorta period and acting as apprentices for Lenora and Juniper respectively.

I'm mostly going off of the Scarlet side of the ScaVio storyline, with Naranja Academy being in Mesagoza and Sada being the professor inside Area Zero. However, Uva Academy and Turo are also going to be involved! Essentially, Naranja is a school that focuses on helping its students figure out and prepare for careers connected with pokemon (trainers, coordinators, breeders, doctors/nurses, etc) in a more general sense. Uva Academy in Zapapico is primarily a research school (especially prominent for professors and scientists) while Blueberry in Unova specializes in professional battling (League Members, Battle Facilities, etc). Naranja provides courses and connections for careers Uva and Blueberry have niches in, but it's the difference between attending a more well-rounded school and attending a specialized one, if that makes sense.

Turo develops the Terastral Orbs used throughout the Paldea region, while Sada focused on Area Zero and develops the time machine that brings past and future Paradox Pokemon. Their relationship is super complicated and messy /pos. I don't think they ever got officially married, but they're 100% divorced in spirit.

Since the games kinda write Sada and Turo interchangeably (even outside of the whole AI deal) and they're described in the same ways besides pronouns and stuff, I want to make the professors a little more distinct from each other. Sada dives head-first into her passions and doesn't like anything or anyone holding her back, Turo is more conscientious but can come off a lot colder than he intends sometimes, etc.

I know most people hc the Subway twins (Ingo and Emmet), Elesa, Skyla, etc to be in like their late 20s/early 30s... but since I gave Emmet a daughter who's the mc of the Legends Arceus saga... they're actually gonna be slightly younger than Lusamine (around 38 or so) lmao. Let's get more nice and hot older adults up in here

Silver (Giovanni's son/Johto rival) is included! Since there's already a baby Lugia in the anime named Silver and that's just... too perfect, this rendition of the character is going to be named Sage (Yomogi in Japanese). I'm still figuring out his personality and stuff since Paul's whole "be the strongest/pokemon are just tools" thing was pulled from game!Silver, but I kinda want to play with Sage being a little more mellowed out by the time we would meet him in Johto Journeys? He acts as an assistant for Professor Elm, and is surprisingly great with raising pokemon despite the edgy tough-guy act he usually keeps up. He and Brock can nerd out about breeding and nuturing techniques and stuff.

An original team I made myself, Team Comet, acts as a foil of sorts to Team Flare. They’re fighting over (literal) life and death

I’m not entirely sure how to make this work, but I really want AZ’s ultimate weapon to be the (super buffed up) prototype of the healing machines used in pokemon centers. Like… the current machines extract infinity energy from deceased pokemon’s remains (such as ashes and stuff) instead of. Y’know. Draining living pokemon of that energy directly, causing them to die. AZ himself developed this practice as an attempt to redeem himself from all of the tragedy he caused in the name of his Floette. His full name is Azrael Jovalie… making him a pivotal ancestor to the Joy family.

Several large family-clans are the primary leaders of international organizations. The Joy family runs the pokemon centers and overall healthcare facilities, Jenny family runs the international and local police departments, the Jordan family are firefighters who provide aid and try to prevent natural disasters, etc (they may be involved with pokemon rangers? I’m not entirely sure). Others are obviously welcome to work in these forces as well, and members of these families aren’t (usually) forced into working the family business if they want to pursue other goals.

Obviously the anime has all the service-people look identical to safe on time and everything, but I think making unique designs and characters for the Joys, Jennys, etc is a fun concept! No matter their gender or ethnicity, almost every member of a poke-business family have hair and eye colors in the same spectrum. For example, almost every Joy has pink hair that’s styled in circular/drop shapes to some capacity, and blue eyes. Jennys have teal/turquoise hair in lightning shaped styles, and brown eyes. Jordans have charcoal black hair that looks like smoky wisps, and fiery orange/gold eyes.

Xerosic (creepy ass scientist dude who forces you to push a button and coaxes Emma into his expansion suit testing) was originally from Ultra Megalopolis. I’m not entirely sure how to connect him to all the Team Flare stuff??? Or even how exactly he ends up in Kalos but he was part of the Ultra Recon Squad and volunteered to travel to the “main” pokemon world for the to see where Necrozma might try to take all the light next. But when he actually shows up there, he just. Doesn’t care. He’s so fascinated by all of the different pokemon and how energy manifests in such different ways… All he wants to do is learn everything he can about it

Eternatus is an Ultra Beast! The ricochet from AZ’s Ultimate Weapon woke it up and caused the first darkest day.

Builing more from the Adventures manga, Galar was already starting to lose its energy, but the issue is actually going to be addressed far more openly. As Eternatus slept for thousands of years, its dynamax energy gradually dies down to the point where it can’t really be used as a proper resource— especially not to power so many of Galar’s communities. Rose definitely pushed a lot of the reliance of dynamax energy in recent history, but I’m certain Galar has relied on Eternatus for even longer. What makes Rose’s plan to wake Eternatus up again even more messed up (besides putting so many people and pokemon in danger), is that he’s essentially harvesting Eternatus of its energy: Wake it up to get the dynamax levels up again, (have Leon) catch it so it doesn’t go back to sleep… Rose sees the pokemon less as an actual creature and more like a walking power plant, definitely in part with how different Eternatus looks from “normal” pokemon.

The original Sun/Moon storyline with Lusamine and her kids happens first (Lusamine is a mix of the doting from the anime and her abuse from the games… she’s messy /pos). Then, around the time Ash and his friends meet Poipole, that’s when we’d meet the Ultra Recon squad and get into the Necrozma stuff.

Y’know Goh’s whole thing with wanting to catch Mew? How Jessie’s mom died in pursuit of Mew? And the eventual data she found was used for Mewtwo’s creation? Do you see how I’m connecting the dots?

Misc Information

Harley is one of Karen's cousins, making them both descendants of Sanqua (Galaxy Team's Construction Leader) and her little brother, Melli (Diamond Clan Warden of Coronet Highlands). Obviously... we can tell who took after who even after all these years, lmao. They also have a baby cousin (one of my ocs lol) named Jimson from Laverre City (Kalos) who is currently one of the Blueberry League Club's Biome Leaders! He specializes in psychic types... and is lowkey a chuunibyou (really commits to the wizard/witch act)

While Serena is in Hoenn, she meets Lisia and the two become girlfriends besties! They’re like twelve so idk if they’d actually do anything with their feelings but the mutual pining is very very apparent. Their ship name is Dreamshowshipping!

Chloe is highkey a lesbian. That’s just always how I’ve interpreted her??? She’s constantly shocked that Ash knows all of these cute girls. I think her and Iris eventually being a couple would be very cute. If Flowershipping isn’t taken, I shall call them that!

Because I am not immune to @yamujiburo’s propaganda of Hanamusashipping (Hiii Kiana if you’re reading through all of this I am so honored and so sorry it’s so much gjdhdhdhs), I love the idea that Jessie and James start a poly/ish thing with Delia!! By that I mean Delia and James are more so queerplatonic and Jessie is smooching both of them lmao. Ash’s step parents have been here the whole time yippee!!

Arven gets a harem to make up for all the trauma (/j but also not). He gets 2 boyfriends (Giacomo and Drayton) and a girlfriend (Copaia, my main Uva student character). They are all bisexual, bet u didn’t know that ;p

Carmen and Amarys are lesbians and girlfriends!! They’ve been dating for 2 years until the main events of the ScaVio saga

I’m not entirely sure what to do with Indigo League’s Elite 4 since it changes between Kanto and Johto?? Will and Karen are definitely well-known trainers (and possibly even coordinators?) in their own right, but idk if or when they would take Lorelai and Agatha’s places. They might become members around Journeys (since I’m treating that as a general 2 years since Indigo League), but that’s very much up in the air.

Xerosic straight up ditches his daughter (Zossie). Which. He was never that good of a parent anyways but.

Klara is the younger sister of Lacey’s mother (who I have as an oc), making her an aunt! She gave Lacey her Galarian slowpoke/slowbrow.

Lucy is Kieran and Carmine’s older cousin. I know the go-to is that she’s their mom but Lucy’s vibe is more around her early 20s or so to me.

Because I adore the concepts I’ve found from @critterbitter and their mutuals, Ingo and Emmet are Drayden’s nephews. Which makes Stacy and Drayton second cousins— there’s so much comedic potential there you have no idea. Keep in mind that Drayden is also paternal figure to Iris, and Hop and Leon are her cousins… the family tree gets real complicated real fast lmao

Summary: Turo is a lovey idiot when he’s drunk

Turo was definitely very horrific at handling his alcohol. Just one small glass of champagne at a little get-together between her, Turo, and Clavell; and he was already ridiculously drunk.

“Uuuuugggh…” he groaned, his arm wrapped around her shoulders as she walked him home.

“Alright, honey. Let’s get you to the couch.” Sada said as they approached the light house. She opened the door and guided him to the couch, making sure to prop him up.

As she was going to close the door, Turo started grinning like an idiot. “You’re prettyyyy…” he hiccuped a bit.

Sada smiled. She knew she was, and she knew her husband thought that she was pretty. Sada closed the door, settling next to her husband on the couch.

Turo’s head fell against her shoulder and he nuzzled into her neck. “Wanna go oooout with me?”

“Johan, honey, I’m already married-“ she started, but to her surprise, Turo began bawling like baby before she can get out ‘to you.’

“You’re married? To who?!” His head fell against her lap.

“You! I’m married to you!” Sada struggled to hold back her laughter. She forgot how stupid Turo was when intoxicated.

“No fucking way, for real?!” His head shot up as if it were the most exciting news he’s ever heard.

“Yeah, we have a son and everything!” Sada accidentally let a few giggles slide when she said ‘everything.’

“I have a sooon?!” Turo’s eyes flew wide. “With the most beautiful woman in the woooooorld?!” He started bawling again.

“Oh, for the love of-“ Sada rolled her eyes fondly, yet exasperatedly. Suddenly, her phone rang in her pocket.

She fished it out. It was Director Clavell. Sada answered.

“Yes?” She hummed.

“Carmen, did you and Johan make it home alright?” Clavell asked.

“Yes, Director, we di-“

“Clavellllll!” Turo called out. “I’m a daaaaaaad!”

The phone was silent for a moment. “…Yes, Johan. You are. Your son is 17 years old,” he spoke slowly, clearly bewildered by the situation. “Carmen, how many drinks did he have?!”

“Just one small glass of champagne!” Sada responded, bursting into laughter.

“Note to self; never let Johan near champagne again,” she could hear Clavell mumbling to himself. He then cleared his throat. “Alright, let me know if you need anything.” And just like that, he hung up.

Turo’s arms wrapped around her midsection as his head rested on her shoulder once more. Sada allowed this, but her sides were starting to ache from laughter.

“I loooove you!” Turo slurred out, sobbing once again.

“Love you too, babe,” she said, and started to dial another number.

After a bit, said person picked up. “Yeah, Mom?”

“Your Dad-“ Sada suddenly burst into a fit of giggles. She quickly tried to get herself under control. “Y-your Da-“ once again, Sada bursted into laughter.

“Mom, what’s going on?!” Arven asked.

“Your Dad is a dumbass!”

Though... Arven, Ingo, and Erin all bonding over cooking and having a special pokemon in their life who they love. Arven's Mabosstiff cuddling with Erin's Skitty... Arven catching Erin napping with his Mabosstiff and being strangely happy at the sight.

Ingo giving Arven good fatherly advice and attention and telling how amazingly brave he is spending so many years essentially on his own. He's always there to listen and tells the poor boy about how he actually had to cut back his work schedule when Erin was born. Arven is just amazed with how dedicated Ingo is. (Another member of Ingo adopting either nearly or actually grown adult men is N, too.)

Pokémon Violet Complete Thoughts

I just finished the main story of Pokémon Violet and it is honestly the best experience I've ever had with Pokémon, at the very least storywise. This game probably is one of my favorite Pokémon stories, maybe even topping my love for DPPt and BW. Like it actually got me sheeding genuine tears to a fucking Ed Sheeran song.

Among the three stories presented to us at the start, I loved Starfall Street the most because it presented a more character-centric narrative, its main focus is on the tight relationships between Team Star and also Director Clavell's interpersonal struggle to find the best course of action for his students. However, the other two questlines were amazing still and offered nice setups and payoffs.

The Path of Legends had its own strong emotional core with Arven and his motivations to help out his beloved Pokémon while also giving glimpses on the narrative at large. Victory Road may be the typical progression of Pokémon games but it showcased to us the endearing designs and personalities of the gym leaders and the Pokémon League itself while also solidifying Nemona as one of my favorite rivals.

Heavy spoiler territory incoming!

All that is to say that all three of those paths were perfect setup for the final part of the main campaign. Hard spoilers from here on out so do turn back if you haven't finished the game yet.

Directly following from Path of Legends, the final story the game presents is the one surrounding the huge crater in the middle of the region and our good boy Miraidon. It also delves deeper into Arven's character and had us group up with all three main characters from the paths we did earlier. It was fun seeing Arven, Nemona, and Penny interacting with one another and it felt really rewarding getting to know them separately beforehand.

The core of this final story lies within Professor Turo, the absentee father of Arven who we first assumed to be simply too busy with his work. We find out that he has been dead for a long time and that the appearance of certain futuristic Pokémon and the Terastallization phenomena can be attributed to his work in Area Zero, the area within the crater. As it also turns out, the Turo that had been interacting with us the whole game was simply an AI. Arven confronting all of this knowledge about his dad and AI!Turo confronting his humanity made me so emotional it's unreal. Not to mention that the music during the final couple of battles was just amazing. Side note: AI!Turo also got really sexy when the original Turo's command override him.

Anyway, there was a lot of important lore tidbits dropped throughout our expedition in Area Zero, but the most important of them all are the subtle hints of Turo having a more insidious plan regarding the Time Machine and that the Terastallization phenomena was simply adapted from a mysterious creature they found at the very bottom of the crater. I'm sure this will be explored later in a DLC and I cannot wait for when that arrives because I am hooked.

In conclusion, I love this game. It may be one of the most technically horrible and unpolished games ever but it was nice that it still managed to carry itself through its story, at least for me. I hope more future Pokémon stories can be handled like this and also that future Pokémon games can be made with more time and care for its performance. The glitches can be funny sometimes but come on we got to fix this shit.

Looking back on X&Y's release 10 years ago...

I still remember queueing up in line for the XY release day literally a whole decade ago- my brother, dad, and one of my best friends were with me and we all went out to Krispy Kreme afterwards- I evolved my first Spewpa there to see which regional Vivillon I had!

Nowadays I can't even imagine pre-ordering a Pokemon game, since I have to wait and see if they perform decently, have enough content in them to justify the $60USD price tag, and whether their DLC is good if not. I've become an old, jaded, beaten-down adult since then, haha...

But enough negativity for now- there are so many good things XY had that we should acknowledge!

Fairies are one of the biggest- we've had them for 10 YEARS now, everyone! Remember when they released the XY demo before the game launch and everyone was hitting Sylveon with everything to see how the new type matched up with everything? And now, Fairy has been paired up with all but two of the other types! They've also become the most OP type now (which is an issue they were made to stop) but it could always be worse! Who knows, maybe in 10 more years, the type chart might be unrecognizable!

They even managed to model and animate over 700 Pokemon on a handheld game, plus all their extra forms! Nowadays, Pokemon games can't manage to do that for even 500 Pokemon on launch.

Mega Evolution was the first battle gimmick ever introduced, and to this day it still remains so much better than the others that we're all still hoping and praying it comes back. I know there were some qualms that mostly OP and popular Pokemon got megas, but naturally the solution shouldn't be "No Megas"- it should be "More Megas"! And we all know someday we're going to have to raid Gamefreak's vault for their Mega Flygon concept art- we know it's out there!! Anyways, I'm glad Megas still get respect in spinoffs- Pokemon GO, Mystery Dungeon, Smash Bros, etc. It gives me hope that one day they really will return.

But the more negative things about XY need to be addressed too- while the games themselves were good, a lot of people rightfully agree that they were the beginning of many declines for the games.

The extremely low difficulty for no reason- NPCs and bosses having miniscule teams with less than 4 moves, rarely any held items and a poorly-made level curve. I can't think of anyone before who thinks the games before were "too hard" or that they're now "just right". To be fair, they've remedied this every now and again with actual challenging bosses (Totems and Ultra Necrozma, BDSP Cynthia, Volo, Team Star Bosses, Sada/Turo, Kieran, and the Ogre Clan) but I do hope this issue gets fully resolved one day. It's not fun playing through 90% of the games mindlessly clicking through the same highlighted "super effective" button over and over.

The "overly friendly rival" problem that first started in XY has finally been fixed though- while Gens 6-8 suffered a bit from it, Gen 9 doesn't just have decent rival characters- Nemona, Arven, Penny, Carmine, and Kieran have been some of my favorite Pokemon characters ever!

The lack of postgame areas and things to do first started in XY. While Looker and Emma's story was great, it didn't offer much of a challenge and there was barely anything to do afterwards. And nowadays when we do get substantial postgames in Pokemon they're paid DLC. And as long as we're getting DLC from now on, can we PLEASE have one that contains a Battle Frontier, please???

Mythicals no longer having their own areas and quests also started in XY- so many unfinished areas in the game that should've gone to them.

Kalos is the only main Pokemon region to only exist in one iteration so far- all others were expanded upon with remakes, sequels, third versions, ultra versions, or DLC. I do hope in maybe 5 years or so we do get XY remakes that'll finally do Kalos justice.

Another problem that eventually got fixed is small amounts of new Pokemon- I remember being in total disbelief that Gen 6 only had 72 new Pokemon, waiting for more to get announced someday. But with Gen 9, we finally have generations containing well over 100 Pokemon again, which is a massive relief!

And one more major underrated change that Gen 6 brought to Pokemon- it's the first one to ever have a worldwide release! I still remember spending most of Gen 5 learning Japanese names of all the new Pokemon, moves, characters, etc while waiting for BW's English release. But nowadays we can all enjoy a new generation's launch around the world at the same time! That's another thing to be grateful for!

But yeah, in these last 10 years so many things have changed and many others have stayed the same- for the Pokemon franchise and for my own life! While not all of it has been perfect, it still blows me away how far we've come, and how much more we need to improve on! I was still a nerdy little kid who didn't know how to draw digitally when these games came out- and now I'm an adult who makes animated shorts and works at an animation production company!

I have no clue if I'll be ready in 2026 for SM's 10th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of the franchise overall! Maybe everything will be better or it'll have gotten so much worse. Either way, I'm happy to have made it this far with you all and can't wait to make a similar post for the 10th anniversary of this blog, too!

For starters, in this AI!Clavell/Roleswap AU, part of the reason behind why the other professor (at least, regarding Turo) is because of extreme anxiety. He watches his partner spiral into this obsession more and more following the arrival of Koraidon which gets worse following Arven's birth, and feels helpless to do anything. He's terrified of failing his son as he thinks he's already failing Sada, and when he finally confronts her, things are said both sides regret.

However, what causes him to leave is what Sada says in response to him begging her to stop with Paradise as he feels as though he's failing her and Arven by letting this continue:

"You're failing me and our son by not supporting me! You'll fail as a father if you don't let me create a Paradise for him, and you're failing me by not supporting me!"

These words- said in a moment of anger- are what break Turo. He thinks that his worst fears have come true, that he's failed his family, and flees. Eventually he returns and the two slowly mend their relationship, but I am in no way excusing him for leaving and not reaching out. He was close to a mental break however and regrets not being in his wife and son's lives more, but his anxiety prevented him from returning for a long time.

Clavell and his AI counterpart were unaware of the Paradise Protection Protocol. And in the professor's defense, the PPP was initially meant as a defense mechanism on the chance a rampaging Pokemon attacked it or a group like Team Rocket were somehow to get a hold of it. As a result, the professor saw no reason to mention it as it would never be activated. Whoops.

Instead of Clive, you meet Sabine/Trent during the Starfall Street storyline. Sabine is very perky and uwu-speak/ e-girl like with her pigtails, cat ear headband, and hair barrettes. ("O-M-G, [Player], you took forever! But don't worry, I, like, have been keeping these grunts occupied~!"). Trent, meanwhile, with his spiky purple ombre hair and mouth covered by a mask, gives delinquent, I don't want to be here vibes ("[Player], what took you so long? These guys are so not pog"). Yes Arven is aware of Sabine/Trent and no he does not want to talk about them (he helped them put their disguises together).

Because he grows up with one of his parents in his life from age 7-18, he's much more open to talking about his family. Depending on the game version, he's extremely protective of Sada and is very close with her(Scarlet) or is confident that Turo is proud of him and has a good relationship with him (Violet).

Mabosstiff is still injured when Arven, in an attempt to get answers as to why his Tio Clavell suddenly went no contact with them and to drag him out, enters Area Zero and is attacked. The professor is actually the one who gives Arven the idea of using Herba Mystica to save his beloved dog when all else fails- they aren't sure they're real, but it wouldn't hurt to look into them. When you defeat your first Titan, Arven calls his mom/dad excitedly to tell them that the Herba Mystica are real, only for them to make it clear the following Titans they are to be told so they can join you.

When you begin The Way Home, there's a fourth companion who joins you- the professor. What, you though you were going to go down to Area Zero alone, especially as they're the one with access to areas Clavell shouldn't have access to? Plus they can't let 4 students enter the Great Crater alone! This also allows for them to give more context to certain areas of the Crater or to their time doing research there- one research station, they might mention how they first met Clavell back when he was a teacher's assistant and a researcher at the academy, another might be how they recruited Clavell and Jacq to their research team, Research Station 4 they may investigate some of the rumble only to stumble back, ordering everyone out of the building. I might have imagined it, but I'm pretty sure at one point the game mentions that there's a strange brown stain on the floor from under the rubble that had been removed in a patch, which you can imply is where the professor died. In this case, the professor found that stain, realized there was way too much blood for a person or Pokémon to have survived, and doesn't want their students to potentially see a dead body. They don't think the blood is from Clavell, but they get this ominous feeling going forward.

The Clavell AI knows he's going to fight you when you attempt to shut down the time machine. But when the PPP kicks in, he's terrified as he has no idea what's going on. The professor does, however, and is heartbroken and horrified as they witness what is essentially a robotic clone of their mentor become corrupted by Tera crystals and be taken over by the PPP.

"h0W d4r3 y0u TrY 4nd d3str0y P4r4d1s3! H3 d13d 4l0n3 D0wN h3R3 f0R y0ur dR34m!" (How dare you try and destroy Paradise! He died alone down here for your dream!")

The professor who takes over as director (Sada, in this case/in Scarlet), holds incredible guilt over what happened to Clavell following the discovery that he's gone. The older man is a sensitive topic for them, as he was their best friend who would still be alive had he not been helping them create Paradise.

Paldean Winds Episode 1: Breathe Out

Alright I know this is late (like one day before the next episode airs late), but I really did enjoy the first episode of the Paldean Winds mini-series

I really liked how the episode started off primarily with us viewing Mesagoza through the viewpoint of a tiny Gimmighoul as it searches for a coin that gets snatched by a Corviknight (that promptly gets chased by a trainer's Tinkaton). It was a nice way to open up the series.

But then the tone switches to an orchestra recital with one of our main characters, Ohara, on stage about to play the flute before switching to her walking up the Glaseado mountains with her Fuecoco to drop her flute off the side of the mountain

Now much like Hisuian Snow and Twilight Wings before it, Paldean Winds focuses a lot more on original characters than the game cast, which is controversial. It's a topic for another time but in the context of Paldea and it's story, I can understand why they chose this route as it would be impossible to really do the characters justice in just a short 4 episode mini-series

Ohara, Aliquis and Hohma have been tasked by Director Clavell on creating an intro video for the academy. However, all of them seem a bit preoccupied and maybe not the best fit as a group. Aliquis is preparing for his battle against Nemona and apparently his brother is coming to watch. Ohara has landed the solo in the concert and we learn that her father is the conductor. And Hohma is well…very interested in Cetitan.

As this first episode focused on Ohara we see how the impact of not only being the soloist but being the child of the conductor. I can empathize with her uneasiness at Aliquis' saying "Your dad's the director, makes sense" as it makes the assumption she didn't make it on her own merits but because of nepotism.

We can see that Ohara is under a lot of pressure to prove herself so much show she abruptly leaves for her treasure hunt abandoning both the video project and the band club due to her doubts. I really liked her phone chat with Director Clavell as he shows his concern for her with her abrupt departure, his willingness to back off on questioning her once he realizes he's overstepped and how supportive and fatherly he is to her.

Arven passing by Ohara's camp with a cold look on his face is direct call to how frosty he is to Nemona and the player at the beginning of SV before his storyline begins…only for him to be chased by a Cetitan

We get a flashback of Ohara leaving the academy right when Hohma and Aliquis are attempting to shoot the introduction video before noticing Ohara trying to sneakily head out. Aliquis seems to catch on Ohara's intentions when she says taking her flute "only on the way up". Hohma interrupts with another Cetitan fact about how their sounds mimic a flute which end up becoming key for Ohara to help Arven…

…you know if she hadn't of dropped the flute off the side of the mountain.

But luckily best buddy Fuecoco was there to the rescue having jumped into the icy cold river to retrieve the flute allowing for Ohara to play and save Arven. It's a really nice moment showcasing Fuecoco's bravery especially since most of his characterization is arround liking food and being a silly little guy.

We get a nice heart to heart moment between Arven and Ohara where Ohara reveals she doesn't exactly get along with her father (which in some way, mirrors Arven's own strained relationship with his parents). While she mentions her father did teach her how to play, it was Fuecoco who saved the day. Arven leaves after thanking both of them and tells Ohara to "take good care of that partner of yours" which anyone who has played SV would've started crying immediately

The episode ends with us seeing that Ohara did indeed rejoin the band and take flute solo to applause from the audience, showing her renewed courage in herself as a person and not just the daughter of the conductor

Overall this was a really cute and inspiring episode. It's very relatable for people who have been in Arven and Ohara's shoes of having parents you have a strained relationship with who also happen to hold prominent positions.

I'll be curious to see how Ohara, Aliquis and Hohma all come together to make the video project and how they end portraying the academy to incoming students who end up watching the video.
