Cotton Candy
Pairing: Lotor x gn!reader
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: Saying "Shit" twice
Word count: 2,076 (yay) (also, I edited this, I still need to update the word count)
Author’s Note: I'm crap at writing dialogues, and this is my first time writing for a gay couple. I'm so sorry if it seems forced or unnatural or shitty. Don't be afraid to call me out.
Story Moodboard!
Tumblr media
It’s with a grunt of effort that I manage to lift the carton containing the cotton-candy-maker.
‘Here, dad,’ I say as my dad takes the box from my hands. ‘That’s all?’
‘Yep, that’s all of it. We’ll conquer this carnival with our delicious cotton candy,’ I nod, doing jazz hands while saying the last part. Dad chuckles. I grin.
‘Hey, Honey!’ I turn back, squinting to spot where my other dad is in the crowd of bustling people. Where, where…? Yep, there he is – in his embarrassingly brilliant sunshine yellow and bottle green striped shirt and hot pink trousers, a sharp contrast to his natural bright red hair. Don’t say that it can’t look that bright; you’ll never know just how blindingly bright bottle green can really be until you see the shirt my dad’s wearing. And trust me, he usually dresses in simpler tones; such bland tones that you’d be surprised to know he was capable of wearing colourful hues as well. It’s only that he’s very passionate about his job, and so whenever we set up a booth in fetes such as the current one, he never misses to match the shop logo.
‘Hul-lo, father dearest, how seems to go your day?’
‘Oh, quite lovely, if I do say so.’
‘Well, that’s simply charming –’
‘Alright, enough,’ my other, not redhead dad snaps with an exasperated sort of smile on his visage. You see, my not redhead, a.k.a. brown-haired dad happens to be British. And that means that me and dad would rather paint our teeth blue than to not tease him. ‘You both need to shut it and start helping me with the decorations, now. You know I’m trash at all that.’
‘Aw, now don’t get discouraged,’ I say, patting dad on the back. ‘After all, not everyone can be as blessed as me, can they?’
‘Hey, why don’t you go look around for a bit? You’ve been helping out since before I have.’
‘Yeah, he’s right, pet. You should.’
I huff, rubbing my palms on the fabric of my jeans. ‘You guys sure? I’m not tired, if that’s what you’re worried about.’
‘We’re not worried, we’re just saying you should also get a look, you know? There’s a lot of surprising booths this time around. I mean, there are aliens participating too, so…’
‘Hmm,’ I play with my bottom lip a little, then, ‘yeah, okay. I’ll be back in like, an hour? Forty five minutes? Sound okay?’
‘Sounds great.’
‘Bye, then.’ And with that, I turn on the heels of my Converse, wandering about the pretty stalls and eager children and kissy couples and aliens with curious features.
It really feels bizarre, just how astonishingly fast mankind has accepted the existence of aliens. It seems simultaneously ages and just a day before when conspiracy theorists raged all around the world, presenting baseless theories and concepts as to why and how the three-man squad on the Kerberos mission disappeared. Then came the Galra, bringing along with them global terror – because alien life, intelligent alien life existed and humanity remained oblivious all these millennia, and now they were actually attacking us. It could’ve been, perhaps even was, in some other dimension, the end of Earth. But then a defender appeared; Voltron appeared in all its glory, bringing along with it proof that however much these purple aliens claim that humans are scum of the universe, humans were, in the grand scheme of things, the ones that saved the universe too.
It feels even more puzzling to actually be on a first-name basis with the leader of Voltron; that’s right, I’m personally acquainted with Keith Kogane. It was around six months after him leaving the Garrison did I come across him. He’d been loitering around the neighbourhood, had ended up in a fistfight with some other kids, and along with that a split lip and bruised cheek. I’d been watching. When the fight ended, I (somehow) persuaded him to come along so that I could at the very least provide him with a band-aid.
Long story short, we’d bonded over how our moms were no-shows and how dads were the best and we became surprisingly close friends; the only difference was that after the death of his old man, he lived alone. I’d been adopted by my two current fathers. I told him about how when they’d initially adopted me, I was excruciatingly shy. I wouldn’t even come out of my room except meals. It was only when I came to know that they knew how to make candy floss had I timidly approached them if I could have some, because previously I’d always been grossed out at the thought of having to eat that. I’d overheard this group of kids saying that cotton candy was actually just dyed granny hair, so that’s where that came from.
I love cotton candy now. So much so, that even at the age of twenty-six, I will pout if someone takes some of mine without my permission. As if I’d ever allow them to.
Speaking of Keith, I haven’t seen him in years. We lost all contact when he turned eighteen, and then he went off into space, and even when he came back, I didn’t get a chance to meet him. I bear no ill will, though. He must have formed some close relationships. Our past friendship is comparatively much more trivial.
I spot a booth selling grilled corn. I instantly head there.
As I’m about join the crowd of humans and aliens who also want corn, a familiar call of my name leads me to pull a three sixty.
Lo and behold. Keith Kogane.
Despite him having obviously grown a lot, the face was still the same. I’m sure that, if he gets a split lip and bruise on his cheek right now, he won’t look all that different.
There’s a questioning hesitance on his features; he’s probably wondering if he’s got the right person. My pleasantly surprised smile and raised eyebrows assure him. As I step away from the grilled corn stall, I notice a motley crowd behind him; some are purple, some are holding Voltron plushies, and some look way too curious to be in a carnival. The introduction is going to be fun.
‘Keith! You're gonna live a hundred years - I was just thinking about you. But anyways, it’s – it’s great to see you,’ I say with a little giggle. ‘Though I am kind of surprised you actually approached me. The sixteen-year-old you would never.’
He smiles awkwardly in return. ‘Y – yeah… I, just… oh God, this is – I’m sorry,’ he says, his inner turmoil evident.
‘It’s all good. I know you’re shit at small talk, so… like, introduce me? Maybe?’
He nods rapidly, brows furrowed. ‘Yeah, um,’ he turns to the people behind him, telling them my name, how we met, the whole affair. I give them a wave. Most of them greet me back.
‘And, this is Shiro and Curtis,’ he points to the tall, white-haired yet young man, holding hands with a tanner guy, ‘Lance, Pidge and Hunk,’ he points to a lanky, bright-smiled guy, a buffer, kind-seeming person, and a short chestnut-haired woman who, despite wearing baggy jeans and a baggier tee, looks somehow better dressed than me. ‘Then that’s Allura, Coran, and Romelle, they’re Alteans,’ a woman with enchanting beauty and a regal aura surrounding her, a redhead who’s significantly older than the rest with an impressive moustache, and a youthful appearing girl with a big grin, ‘and Lotor, he’s Galran. The Galran Emperor, in fact.’ Lotor is a tall, lilac-skinned man with aristocratic features who shares the same cheek markings as the Alteans. Oh, and he’s unfairly gorgeous, his hair a luscious mane of white which I just know will be soft. It’s hard not to stare. You remember how I said Allura looked like royalty? Yeah, the way this man carries himself, he has the aura and visage of a God. Even in a white tee-shirt and jeans he looks way better than should be legal.
I rip my eyes away.
‘So…are Noah and Oliver here too? I’d love to see them. I mean, I never did get to thank them to permit a possible criminal to sleep in their house.’
I laugh. ‘Never mind that, but we actually sit up a stall here. I could, you know, maybe even get you guys something to eat.’
‘Free? Please don’t.’
‘It’s nothing, really, just… I don’t know, accept it as a small thank you present for not letting the planet go to shit.’
A bit of thinking. Even after a nod from Shiro, it was Lance who said yes. Good ol’ Keith.
When we reach the stall, my British dad is the only one we find there. He looks up, about to say something to me, when he notices Keith.
‘Dad. You remember Keith?’
‘Your possible criminal friend who turned out to be the saviour of the universe Keith?’
‘That Keith. He wanted to see you.’
‘Oh? Well then,’ he dusts his hands, stands up, and greets Keith. Both of them engage in a conversation.
‘You guys wanna try something?’
‘What do you got?’ asks Pidge.
‘What do we got? Um, we got chocolates, candy, marshmallows, jellybeans, tortilla chips, ice cream, popcorn – butter, cheese, caramel, peri peri – Lays, like, a lot of Lays, and the good old cotton candy. What d’you want?’
So, after providing the humans with two Cream n’ Onion Lays, a pack of tortilla chips, a double scoop of butterscotch and chocolate, a small tub of popcorn, and three cotton candy sticks, I turned to the aliens.
‘I’m assuming you guys aren’t familiar with a lot of this stuff, so you could either pick whatever looks to be good, ask your friends, or I could recommend something. What’ll it be?’
Romelle was the one who asked, ‘What’s ice cream like?’
‘It’s sweet. It’s cold. And it’s like… heaven in mouth.’
‘Ooh. I want an ice cream. The… pink one?’
‘That’s strawberry. You can eat it in a cone, or in a cup.
‘What’s the difference?’
‘Well, the cup you can’t eat. The cone is like a crispy biscuit,’ judging by her face, she didn’t know what biscuit was. ‘I’ll just give you a cone. It’s all on the house, so no worries if you don’t like it.’
I watched eagerly as she licked the ice cream. An unreadable look crossed her face. Then – ‘This is almost as good as Hunk’s cookies!’
‘Really?’ Coran asked, twirling his moustache. ‘Well, then…’ he squinted to read the names of the various flavours. ‘I would like “cookies and cream”. Yes.’ A cone of cookies n’ cream was served.
‘Allura?’
‘Do you have something that isn’t sweet?’ That was a plot twist. I’d have taken her as someone who appreciated sweeter foods.
‘We do. You want spicy?’
‘…Sure.’ Peri Peri popcorn was given and enjoyed.
And last… ‘Lotor. What would you like to have?’
It takes me a lot of will to not laugh at Lotor’s way too analytical expression. ‘What would you recommend?’
‘Me?’
‘Yes.’
‘Out of all this stuff, candy floss is my favourite.’
‘Candy floss… the item that looks simultaneously like a cloud and an old woman’s hair?’
‘Yeah.’
‘I would like a helping of candy floss, then.’
As I hand Lotor a stick of cotton candy, I wait with anticipation for his reaction.
‘How am I supposed to eat this?’
It takes me a moment to process that. ‘Uh, you just… pinch a little of the stuff in between your fingers, then eat it. Or you could just, um, go in directly, which I’m thinking isn’t really your style.’
He narrows his eyes, but follows my instructions nonetheless. Only a second after putting the stuff in his mouth, Lotor purrs.
Everyone around him, being me, Coran and Romelle (Allura’s off telling Lance how great Earth food is), looks with wide eyes and raised eyebrows. Lotor appears as if he’s just died inside. The berry-shaded blush on his face is adorable, though.
'I didn't, like, poison you or something, right?'
'No. It's that... I would never in my lifetimes have expected something so tooth-rottingly sweet to be this delicious.'
'So you're okay?'
‘Yes. In fact, I quite like… this cotton candy.’
I grin.

Ask and you shall receive: here are my personal headcanons about Laszlo's house and the Kreisler Institute
(Minor spoilers for season one, I've added a read more, so no one reads them by accident! 💕)
I would assume that Laszlo inherited his family home, he could have sold it. but I feel as though that wasn't really the norm for that point in time. And I think that especially in higher society him selling the house would raise some eyebrows. "Gilded Age New York" was an interesting time period and there was a weird focus on buy property in the city and stuff, I just don't see him selling the house (I'll come back to this).
And between him trying to keep his father's abuse hidden, and his unresolved trauma I don't see him selling it. With the amount of money he has it was absolutely a large, grand home so it would be a great place to open an institute.
The house that he lives in I don't think is his family home, it's far too "modern" both the furnishings, but also the actual architecture is all art nouveau which is definitively a style of the 1880s and 90s. And while he could have renovated, Laszlo doesn't strike me as the kind of man to renovate his home to match the latest fashion. I think that he purchased the home in that period.
Also, we've established that Laszlo is wealthier than John and Sara both. I would say that Sara's house is much larger than Laszlo's though, or at least the rooms we see in it. John's house is his grandmother's townhouse (this is not the Moore family home), but we know that his father is still alive and either in new york city or just outside the city, I believe John's family home is also much larger, similar in size to Sara's if not slightly bigger. John's grandmother's house is closer in size to Laszlo's. Following this logic, if the Kreisler's are wealthier than the Moores and the Howards, the Kreisler family home would be at least as large or much larger than theirs. Thus, I reiterate, Laszlo does not actually live in his family home. So what happened?
I imagine he lived with his parents until he went to Harvard when he had a dormitory. Then he probably rented a flat in New York City until his father was put into the old age home that we see him in at the end of the season. Laszlo took over the family finances, opened the institute in his early 30s and bought his own home (the one he actually lives in).
Also, the institute has notably older architecture than his own home, and while it would have been renovated for the needs of an institution, it also demonstrates that Laszlo isn't interested in trends. the rest of the building like the library and office are not renovated. The hallways in dark wood panelling etc are not new, if he wanted to get on a trend they would be modernized as well but they're not.
The little laboratory off the side of the library is art nouveau style but not in a fashion-forward kind of way, more of a standard building style for that time. But I also assume his family home didn't have an existing laboratory, so it makes sense that a room that was renovated is in that style compared to the rest of the home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
you can see that some of the architecture is still a bit older, even in the lab, but the parts updated to serve as a laboratory; the tiled floors, new paint etc are art nouveau. The colour scheme, white and green, pink accents are definitively art nouveau, unlike the rest of the building.
A really great example is the green colomn in the lab. Here's a photo of a similar one in a FULLY art nouveau home, and while the ones in the lab are MUCH simpler, you can see the similarities in terms of style:
Tumblr media
As I said though, none of the institute is fully art nouveau, only bits. (Laszlo's actual home is fully art nouveau and I will absolutely go through with screen shots and break it down if you want???)
My friend @exit-goat also pointed out that when we see other institutions throughout the series, they are nowhere near as homey as the Kreisler institute. And while that might just be because of the environment Laszlo is trying to cultivate, it's also just that the architecture is that of a home.
I also love the idea of Laszlo using his family home for the institute for a couple reasons: one, what a massive f--- you to his father, opening a sanctuary for troubled and abused children in the very home his father had so much power in. Two, in many ways Laszlo cares so much for every child there, in many ways the institute is raising them, so in a way, they're all his children, it's appropriate that he raises them in his home.
Let me know if you want me to expand on this or anything similar in the future, I'm studying interior decorating, and I'm very interested in set design for film and tv, and historical interior design so I'd be very happy to talk more about it!

❄️ Untamed Winter Fest 2019 ❄️
Day 29 - Frozen - 1.8k
Jiang Cheng watched the gently waving fan as it moved hypnotically, still covering the lower half of Nie Huaisang’s face. He wondered if this was the Nie Sect leader’s version of those flesh eating plants that lured in their prey with pretty colours and tempting smells before snapping closed and devouring what was caught.
The thought made him uncomfortable and he tried to banish it as his eyes lifted and travelled a little further up to find those solemn dark eyes watching him watch the fan.
And really now he was looking for it Jiang Cheng wondered how he, how everyone, had missed that underlying tone of cold cunning in their depths.
But perhaps it was just that he could see it now because he knew it was there; people only saw what they wanted to see, nothing in the world was truer than this.
Nie Huaisang had been a consummate strategist, matching Jin Guangyao move for move, year after year, in a hidden game of chess only one of them had been aware they were playing.
While one man acted the benevolent patriarch of the cultivational world the other played the clown in the background, wept and shook his head when pushed to the forefront and cleverly used his prey as his protection.
Jin Guangyao hadn’t ever seen it coming. That was scheming on another level entirely.
Jiang Cheng considered that they’d come a long way from those silly boys who’d met at the Cloud Recesses and spent their days fooling around, drinking, sharing pornographic books, whilst going about their young lives with their seemingly all-consuming worries.
The worries of children.
Life had chewed them up and spit them out since, and while he didn’t think there was a cultivator of their generation that had come through the last several years unscathed Jiang Cheng had closed himself off emotionally in order to survive, his frozen heart refusing to allow any further possibility of hurt.
He wondered if, like himself, Nie Huaisang would give anything to return to those carefree days of innocence, to be surrounded by his family again. He liked to think he’d not be nearly as ill-tempered with Wei Wuxian as he had been, that he’d appreciate that lively, conceited yet warm-hearted brother of his more, that he wouldn’t waste time bickering in front of his sister and instead just be in her calming company and give her all the love she deserved.
Perhaps Nie Huaisang had the same regrets, wishing he’d not spent so much time avoiding Nie Mingjue and instead been more appreciative of the love and care his elder brother held for him.
***
He would be the first to admit the meeting hadn’t held his attention and he had let most of the discussion flow over his head despite Lotus Pier being the host location, it had been a relief as it drew to a conclusion so he could see the other attendees off to their accommodations.
Afterwards, though it was late in the evening, he found himself in the company of the man who most of his thoughts had been on during the conference as they walked leisurely along the walkways and paths along the lake.
“Jiang-xiong was quite preoccupied during the discussion” Nie Huaisang commented, giving him a quick look from the corner of his fox-eyes.
“It’s the same discussions over and over though isn’t it? Patting themselves on the back for seeing through the Chief Cultivator and having a part in bringing him down” he sneered. The discussion was mostly made up of the smaller Sects due to the current political climate. He had heard Lan Xichen of Gusu had retreated into seclusion after Yunping City; the Jin Sect was in complete shambles despite his attempts to help Jin Ling settle things down, and that only left the Nie and Jiang sects of any size, and the smaller sects were full of their own importance.
They strolled on.
As ever Nie Huaisang was elegantly dressed; he’d always had that interest in beautiful fabrics, intricate braids and hair ornaments and beautifully painted fans. His was the soul of a poet or an artist, not a warrior or a diplomat. And look what he had accomplished.
It was another truism that war made murderers out of even the gentlest souls; one just had to find out what one was prepared to go to war for.
“I thought of the past. Of Cloud Recesses” he broke the companionable silence as Nie Huaisang walked on beside him, his closed fan tapping occasionally into the palm of his left hand.
“They were simpler times” it was almost tentative and Jiang Cheng glanced over, but couldn’t read the reason as the fan flipped open and rose into place to hide his expression, “but no less sincere”
“Do you think of it sometimes?” Jiang Cheng asked, curious how close he’d been in his thoughts earlier.
“Sometimes. Rarely. It’s...raw. I haven’t allowed myself to want the things I wanted then for a long time. I was too focussed, too...consumed. And too dead inside”
That Jiang Cheng understood, hadn’t he acknowledged that frozen part of himself that kept him safe, but emotionally separated from the world? Nie Huaisang came to a halt then and turned to face him.
“Perhaps it’s time we looked forward instead, Jiang-xiong. Perhaps now all accounts are settled it’s time to accept that wanting some of those things we wanted as silly little children in the Cloud Recesses is permissible”
Jiang Cheng didn’t think he quite grasped what Nie Huaisang meant, there seemed to be a message for him, especially in those fox-eyes which stared at him over the top of the fan, but it eluded him.
“It’s perhaps time to let ourselves heal” Nie Huaisang touched his arm with the lightest of contacts, then folded his fan and moved off back towards the dwellings with a, “Goodnight, Jiang-xiong”
***
He spent a lot of time with Nie Huaisang over the following days. Jiang Cheng told himself it was because he was the least annoying claimant upon his time. But he did genuinely enjoy their evening walks which became a staple of the conference. Their talk rarely became as deep or personal as on the first evening, but they never lacked for subjects, and neither minded when silence fell between them when there was nothing that needed to be said.
Jiang Cheng being Jiang Cheng did notice that the other had started to act a little more solicitously towards him, there were often small touches or smiles that caught him off guard, and maybe made his pulse speed up a little. Purely through surprise, of course.
He thought it may be due to Nie Huaisang finding someone with a shared history who had suffered similarly, and who he could talk to about it that made the other move towards renewing their friendship, to which Jiang Cheng had no objections.
He was a little sad when the conference ended and it was time for the other sects to go their own ways. Although only due to the impending departure of Nie Huaisang; he’d happily row the boat away from Lotus Pier himself for any of the other Sect heads. He was at the pier most of the day seeing them all off on their separate journeys.
Nie Huaisang took his leave late in the morning, “Thank you for your hospitality Jiang-xiong, I hope to see you again very soon”
“I hope so too” he allowed himself to agree and didn’t miss the warming of the other man’s eyes in response.
***
Over the following days Jiang Cheng didn’t want to admit how empty Lotus Pier had suddenly become. He continued to take the evening constitutionals that had become the norm with Nie Huaisang but they were lonely and left him brooding more often that not.
He did think deeply on Nie Huaisang’s comment of letting themselves heal and what that meant to him, he felt like the message had carried a very important weight for the other man. For himself he considered part of the healing process would be to forgive and let go  as completely as he could of the hatred he had carried for Wei Wuxian in the years since the Burial Mounds. It was something Wei Wuxian had wished for him as well, as he’d informed Jiang Cheng during a time spent trapped in a cave awaiting rescue together.
They both knew it wasn’t going to be easy, there was no magic fix-all. They had hurt each other deeply. But his family was everything to Jiang Cheng, and knowing he’d been naive and childish enough to be manipulated into betraying the man he had always thought of as his brother left a sour taste in his mouth and a cold ache in his chest.
How they were going to get there, however, he had no idea. Perhaps he could start with writing to Wei Wuxian; he thought he might find it more freeing than having to be honest with his words, which Jiang Cheng was under no illusions he’d be terrible at.
He would think the matter over carefully before he committed himself, however, it was a delicate situation and something that should be approached with forethought.
Several days after Nie Huaisang had left for Qinghe a small box was delivered to Lotus Pier. It was carved with the beast-head sigil of the Nie sect so he had no questions over who it was from.
Inside was a jade pendant carved in the shape of a nine-petalled lotus flower. The petal tips had all been limned a delicate shade of purple and beneath the pendant was a silver bell and a matching purple tassel. It was an exquisite piece meant to be worn on his belt. Something told him Nie Huaisang had been the one to make it himself and that same something itched vaguely in the heart he thought frozen solid from years of grief.
Still, it was a lot of time and effort to spend on a gift to a friend. He would have to be sure to write and thank him, perhaps send a gift back, although he was under no illusion he wasn’t an artist like Huaisang; any gift would have to be commissioned by him only and therefore perhaps wouldn’t come across as quite as sincere?
He was just drifting off to sleep that night when something clicked in his head; he shot upright in bed.
Wait, what had Nie Huaisang meant about sincere feelings from their times at Cloud Recesses? About allowing themselves to move forward and heal, and accepting that childhood wants that were still valid?
His pulse sped up.
Was he being courted?
The conversation JC refers to with WWX occured in my Day 13 prompt for reference but it’s not necessary to have read for the above

Best Friend & First Mate. (Part 3)
Title: Best Friend & First Mate.
Tumblr media
Author: Gráinne x
Pairing: Harry Hook x Reader
Summary: Part 3 of the Harry Hook mini-series. Reader becomes emotional the more time she’s on Auradon. Loving her best friend from a far, desperate to reunite with him but not wanting to give into the dark temptation that is evil.
A/N: So this took a while to write because I was following the storyline and I wanted to break off in a good place. This is Part 3 ahh exciting lol, there will be a Part 4 & 5 still to come, so don’t worry folks plenty more of Harry & Reader to come. I hope you enjoy. Love Always G xx
Part One / Part Two /
Y/N stood side by side with Evie on the balcony, this was it the moment they’d be waiting for.
Ben’s coronation had begun and Mal had successfully enchanted Ben with a love spell gaining her spot next to the fairy godmother and that wand.
Y/N played with the ring that sat on her right middle finger, nervous habit that set in even when she was a baby. They’d been in Auradon for four months now and things were… changing.
Evie noticed Y/N playing with the ring and placed her hand gently on top to get her stop. “Hey, you’ll see him soon”
Y/N didn’t believe her. She didn’t believe she’d see Harry again, or the isle or her mother for that fact. Things had changed in Y/N she didn’t feel the need to prove herself, she didn’t feel like scaring kids or tormenting the student body sure she had her moments when she lost her cool but nobody expected a VK kid to automatically be good. ‘Oh god what is happening’
Y/N faced Evie whispering “I don’t want to do this anymore” Evie’s eyes nearly bulged out of her head when she heard her older sister “WHAT!” she whisper shouted. Y/N shrugged “It’s not worth it, look at what we’ve accomplished here” Jay and Carlos gave Y/N that knowing look as they overheard the conversation between the two sisters. “But. You won’t get to see Harry again?” Evie whispered “There’s always a price to pay Evie. Mom taught us that. Harry’s my price to pay… to stay.” Y/N croaked.
All hell unleashed the moment the wand was removed from the Beast’s bell jar. It shocked the entire room when it wasn’t Mal who got the wand but Jane; the fairy godmothers daughter. Evie, Y/N, Carlos and Jay made it down to the centre of the room as Mal grabbed the out of control wand from Jane.
The gasps and shocks from everyone around the room made a tourney game more appealing. A villain kid with the fairy godmother’s wand, of course she’s going to destroy them, and release the villains from the Isle and let all hell break loose. ‘Not on my watch’ Y/N thought.
“Mal” Y/N called out as everyone stood terrified, Mal turned to face Y/N, wand raised. “We don’t have to do this” Mal laughed “We don’t have a choice Y/N/N our parents would kill us” “You are not your parents, they made their choice” Ben called out. He took a tentative step towards Mal and another as she clearly wasn’t going to hurt him. “Now you just have to make yours” Ben finished holding out his hand in anticipation.
Mal whirled round to face the gang. “I think I want to be good” Y/N smiled knowingly “Me too” “You are good” Ben spoke “How do you know that?” Evie asked curiously “Because I’m listening to my heart” he answered.
Jay and Y/N shared a look “Stealing things doesn’t make you happy. Tourney and victory pizza with the team makes you happy” she pointed out. Jay smiled nodding “And reading those sappy romance novels and hanging with Evie makes you happy not tormenting kids.” Y/N blushed as Jay spilled her secret liking for romance novels. “I’ll get you for that” she groaned.
“Scratching dude’s belly makes you happy. Who would’ve thought?” Mal smiled at Carlos. “And Evie” Y/N grabbed her sister’s hands in her own. “You do not have to play dumb to get a guy! You are so smart” Y/N hugged her younger sister. Evie beamed as the tears fell from her eyes. Who would’ve thought Evie & Y/N would be the best of sisters.
“And I don’t want to take over the world with evil. I want to go to school. And be with Ben. Because being with Ben makes me really happy” Mal cried, the tears falling freely. Everyone around the room began to relax and cheer as the VK kids wanted to become good.
“Us all being best friends makes me really happy, so I choose good” Mal placed her hand in the middle waiting for the rest of the VK kids to join her. It took Y/N a split second before she placed her hand in too “I choose good too”. Evie followed suit and then Jay. Carlos was the only one who was holding back in fear of their parent’s wrath.
“So just to be clear, we don’t have to be worried about how really mad our parents are going to be? Because they are going to be so mad!” Carlos chuckled. “Your parents can’t reach you here” Ben smiled at the group. “Okay. Then good.” Carlos finished placing his hand in the middle. “You too your majesty” Y/N called out. Ben smiled and placed his hand in the middle too.
The moment was broke however, when green mist appeared from nowhere. It only meant trouble. Y/N gasped “Oh shit” Maleficent had escaped from the Isle after the barrier was broke when Jane stole the wand. “I’M BACK!” She sang. “Go away mother” Mal shouted. Maleficent began to laugh, no way was this her evil, monstrous daughter. “She’s funny”.
Y/N grasped Mal’s hand giving her a sense of comfort and to let Mal know that she had someone there to stand up to her mother. “Wand me!” “No” Mal shouted throwing the wand to the fairy godmother, but it failed because Maleficent froze everyone.
It took five hearts standing as one to defeat Maleficent. All of it only happened because Mal had the courage to stand up to her mother and she had her friends standing behind her united.
Y/N smiled to herself as Ben and Mal hugged, she missed Harry and it looks like she was going to miss him a whole lot more now because they just ruined their chances at going back.
Uma and Harry watched the coronation tragedy on the small screen in Ursula’s Fish and Chip shop, they peeked a glance at one another mirroring each other’s worried glances as everyone else around them booed and insulted the VK kids for ruining their chance at cursing kingdoms and doing villainous things.
“I..I.. We..We won’t see her again” Harry stated angrily  Uma gripped Harry’s hand tightly “One day maybe” Harry pulled his hand from Uma’s storming out of the fish and chip shop. Uma sighed sadly, she should be happy Y/N was okay and getting a good life but she missed her friend and she missed her first mate. Harry wasn’t the same since she left.
Y/N waltzed into her shared room with Evie, throwing her bag onto the floor and flopping onto the bed face down. It was such a long day and now she had to do dress fittings for Cotillion with Evie, so many girls had come to Evie begging for her to make their dresses and when they found out Y/N could Sew, it loaded the pressure on the two girls. Y/N groaned into the pillow.
A knock at the door signalled the first customer of the day. “Come in” Y/N called out pushing herself off the bed. Lonnie walked in looking desperately exhausted. “Hey Lonnie” Y/N sighed “Hi Y/N where do you want me?” she yawned Y/N pointed towards the pedestal “Up here Lonnie” Y/N grabbed her measuring tape and began to take measurements for Lonnie. They discussed colour scheme and patterns before Doug entered the room.
“Hi Y/N” Doug called out pulling his laptop from his bag and setting up. Doug kept track of all the girls Evie and Y/N were making dresses for. He even had little folders of the information stored away. “Hi Doug where’s Evie?” Y/N questioned writing down the last measurement for Lonnie. “Stuck with Chad. He wants peacock feathers on his cape now” Y/N glanced up at Doug to see if he was joking. He was not. “Wow” she laughed.
“Alright Lonnie all done. See me next week for a trial version of the dress okay?” Lonnie nodded tiredly “Yea see you next week” Just as Lonnie left the next girl arrived eagerly ready to tell Y/N all her ideas. Y/N pouted at Doug “It’s going to be a long night”. Doug nodded typing up Lonnie’s information that Y/N had given him.
Evie arrived an hour later with Mal in tow. Y/N shooed the last girl from their room so she and Evie could have some alone time with Mal. “Do you’s ever think what we’d be doing right now if we were on the Isle?” Mal asked curiously Evie laughed “That’s funny” she finished the new touches to Mals dress. Y/N smiled sheepishly “Sometimes. I mean no offence but I’d probably be at Uma’s” Evie looked over at Y/N “Thought you were past that?” Y/N shrugged “I am, at least I thought I was… but I’ve been missing it more and more lately.”  Y/N zoned out from the rest of the conversation as she thought back to a time when life was simpler.
 (Before Y/N left for Auradon)
“HARRY” Y/N squealed running across the deck, away from the advancing pirate, donned with water balloons instead of the usual hook and sword. Harry laughed mischievously throwing a balloon at Y/N, she ducked missing her by inches. Y/N cheered sticking her tongue out at Harry. “Hahahha you missed” Just as she finished that sentence Harry threw the last balloon at her hitting her square on the chest. Harry cheered “Gotch ya”
Y/N squealed as the water soaked her t-shirt. “You are so dead Harry Hook” Harry laughed running away from Y/N, she chased him across the ship. “C’mon Harry I just wanna give you a hug” Y/N called “No way ye stay away from ma you lil witch” “Why thank you, nicest thing you’ve ever said to me” Y/N giggled Harry ducked under stairs as Y/N ran on past, he stayed crouched so she wouldn’t find him.
Y/N tip toed underneath the stairs, ducking so she wouldn’t hit her head just as she got close enough to Harry who was looking out on to the deck waiting for her to pass by again she screamed “BOO” Harry jumped in fright hitting his head on the stairs. “Ow ye lil codfish” Y/N faked insult “Excuse me?” smacking Harry on the arm.
Y/N crawled out from under the stairs straightening up she faced Harry who crawled out after her, a slight pink tinge to his face. It took Y/N a few seconds to catch on. “Did you just stare at my butt?” Harry’s blush darkened giving Y/N the answer she needed “NO” he lied. “Liar!! Liar, Liar pants on fire” Y/N sang. “Shut up Y/N/N” Harry whispered. Y/N laughed she never seen him blush like that before.
“Well, how was it?” she grinned teasingly. Harry looked on in confusion, the pink tinge settling on his cheeks. “How was what?” “My butt? Did it look good?” Y/N teased. Harry huffed, muttering under his breath “Shut up”
“HARRY LOVES MY BUTT” Y/N sang as she ran away from Harry. He chased her down trying to get her to shut up, everyone around them was beginning to take notice of the two and their antics.
It wasn’t until he cornered her at the stairway again, did she realise the compromising situation they were in. Y/N’s back was to the wall and Harry had her trapped, both arms pinning her into position. “Ye gunna keep tha up?” Before she could answer he placed a hand over her mouth stopping her, “Right answer only” he warned removing his hand.
“HARRY LO…” Y/N’s answer was cut off as Harry yanked her wrists over his head, grabbed her by the waist and threw her over his shoulder and walked towards the berth (living quarters).
Y/N wriggled and struggled to get free from Harry’s grasp all the while laughing at the situation she found herself in. “Harry let me down” Y/N squealed as Harry smacked her ass in amusement. “Oi does that mean you do like my butt?” she sang. Harry roared with laughter as the rest of the crew began to join them on the ship watching the two curiously. Harry felt a slit stinging sensation on his bum and a quiet giggling from the girl he was carrying.
Y/N giggled as Harry jumped a little when she smacked his bum. “Cause baby I do sure love your bum” Y/N whistled.
Harry shook his head in amusement setting the girl upright on her feet again, Y/N staggered off balance, not quite use to the gravity again. Harry grasped her arm to steady her holding on tightly. Harry looked down to see Y/N had a firm grasp on his shirt between her two hands, he peaked a glance at Y/N again eyebrows raised “Ye look like ye wanna rip ma shirt off?”
Y/N smirked, eyes raising to meet Harry’s “I do” Before Harry could answer that Uma called for Y/N. Y/N released Harry’s shirt and headed off in the direction of Uma, she cast a quick glance back winking at Harry as she left. “Later blowfish” “Later devils bitch” he grinned.
Uma watched the interaction between the two with a fond smile on her face, her first mate and best friend… who would’ve thought.

How to Use Textiles to Create Mesmerising Wall Art
Textiles make for beautiful and versatile wall hangings, and though they may be seen as traditional or old-fashioned, they definitely deserve a spot in the interiors of today. When it comes to wall hangings, the most popular one and the one that springs to mind immediately is the tapestry. The word tapestry originates from the French “tapisser” – or, “to cover with fabric, to carpet”. The tapestry as we know it today originated circa the 1500’s when they were hung in doorways to prevent cold winds from entering the home. However, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a tapestry being used for that purpose today, for now, we consider them to be exquisite pieces of art that serve no purpose but to delight those who are lucky enough to set their eyes upon it. Though they hail from centuries ago, they are still as stylish today, and need not resemble an antique – depending on the print, you can definitely use a tapestry in a 21st century home!
Features of Wall Hangings
Nowadays, the word “tapestry” envelops a large number of textiles and wall hangings. They can often be used to represent a culture, be an ode to the past or simply bring something funky and unique to a room. A tapestry can be as personal as you want it to be – it can be about your family or something else that you hold dear. Equally, it serves just as well as a simply decorated cloth with the sole purpose of adding another dimension of style to a tired room. You will undoubtedly have come across a lot of different ethnic tapestries if you have been around the world – they can make great souvenirs and can also educate you about the heritage and history of a different nation or culture. They can portray a scene or just house a beautiful myriad of patterns, and of course, their unique textures makes them incredibly snuggly and soft to the touch – so much so you might prefer them as a blanket than as a piece of decorative art!
Of course, you wall hanging doesn’t need to be an off-the-shelf tapestry, you can repurpose a rug, blanket, quilt or pretty much any cloth and hang it on your wall for something new! Wall hangings are particularly adept at adding a rustic and homely feel to a living room. They can be immensely varied in size, texture, colour, pattern and so on, and so it is unlikely you wouldn’t be able to find (or make) one that is perfect for your home, or maybe as a gift for somebody else’s home. Usually, wall hangings are made out of materials such as linen, wool or cotton, but some on the market can incorporate the likes of gold and silver. As you can imagine, you’d have to splash out a little extra cash for more luxurious hangings such as these, but they are perfect for bringing a more sophisticated and regal atmosphere to, say, the living room. If you want a tapestry that will complement the modern vibe of your home, try finding or making one with more abstract designs, or with pops of colour, to break away from the traditional design of tapestries. An eclectic mix of a variety of tapestries can also achieve this “modern” effect. Tapestries can work as a fantastic statement piece or can blend in with or behind a plethora of other features in a room.
Repurposing Materials to Use as Decoration
Textiles are varied in their uses – they can do pretty much whatever your imagination might want them to! Not to mention, they don’t require you to splash out unless you really want to, which is handy when we are trying to be a bit savvier with our cash. And of course, once you are tired of a wall hanging, it is easy to repurpose – maybe something as simple as hanging it upside down could breathe new life into it. Whatever the theme or vibe of your home, there is a tapestry to suit it. If you’re a beginner when it comes to tapestries and is unsure about where to begin, it’s a good idea to go to local thrift stores and antique shops and have a roam around to see if any kind of wall hanging catches your eye. It could also be worth starting at home, by rummaging through rooms and cupboards to see if there is leftover cloth that could be recycled into something gorgeous.
Even things that you may have believed were better off left on the floor, like rugs or carpets, can really shine on a wall if you know what to do with them! A fantastic advantage is their ability to “fill” a room that maybe looks a bit bare or sparse – thereby making it a much warmer and comfortable environment for anyone who inhabits it. There’s minimum fuss with a wall hanging – they are by no means permanent, so if you made the wrong call or simply want to try something new you can have them removed the same day that you change your mind. Tapestries even work in a dorm room due to their flexibility. Wall hangings are also suitable for a bedroom, and if you want to experiment you could use them in place of a conventional headboard! You can match other accessories in your bedroom or living room to the tapestry, or vice versa. Try to stick with a certain theme or colour scheme, as this reduces the risk of your tapestry being a little too overwhelming and consequently becoming a bit of an eyesore!
You could also use samples of materials like wallpaper as wall hangings, which you may even be able to acquire for free! You can’t really get much better than that surely! In the same vein, if you find some wrapping paper that catches your eye then don’t hesitate to at least try it out as a wall hanging, for you may have just hit the jackpot at a minimum cost! Wall hangings can go pretty much anywhere where they fit – next to stairs, above your television – you name it. If you are really bold (and have a little extra time on your hands) you could try a tapestry out on the ceiling! It could certainly add something eye-catching – but only if it works in unison with the rest of the room. When thinking of the colours in your tapestry, go for lighter hues to evoke a more calm and serene atmosphere, or opt for something a little more bright and vivid if you want some “wow factor”. Of course, you can mix up the sizes of your tapestries, maybe choosing a few smaller ones over one large, potentially overwhelming one.
Do-it-Yourself
If you are a renter, you may think that tapestries and other wall hangings won’t be of much use to you, but fortunately, you’d be wrong. Although contractual stipulations do indeed limit the number of alterations you can make to walls in your home, they won’t block off all avenues. Of course, do double-check with your landlord if your renovation is okay by them to avoid any disagreements after changes have been made! Some changes are difficult or impossible to undo and you don’t want to get yourself into a sticky and stressful situation. Hopefully, minor changes like a nail in the wall should be okay, though you may be asked to mend any imperfections in the wall if/when you leave.
You may think that trying to make your own wall hangings is too much of a task for the average person, but there’s not as much to it as you may think – and at the end of the day, it’ll give you something to be proud of. No doubt, after the huffing and puffing what you will have achieved will definitely be worth it! Even a very simple wall decoration like a collection of feathers will be super rewarding, as well as adding that personal touch that is hard to find in a store-bought object. If you have an old carpet or cloth, dust it off and jazz it up, maybe by adding rhinestones or sequins or anything else that can bring a bit of sparkle before it hanging it up. There are a ton of other ways to turn a variety of fabrics into some gorgeous wall décor. You could try transferring the cloth onto a canvas, and then hanging the canvas up if you feel that the cloth on its own does not add enough oomph. It’s not difficult at all, all you need to do is buy a canvas from a local store and then use any method you wish to attach the fabric to the canvas, be that via glueing or stapling. Simple fabrics such as these are a good option because they are very easy and cheap to get a hold of, and most likely you have some lying around the house already.
Once you have found or made your perfect wall hanging, you will then need to mount it onto the wall. One way to do this is using hook and loop tape. Sew some of this tape along the upper length of your hanging. Attach the other side of the tape to a slim piece of wood using staples or a good old hammer and nails, after which it is ready to hang on the wall. Alternatively, you could put your fabric in a frame, for something a little more chic and classy. For this, you’ll need a frame that is similar in measurement to your cloth. If your material is sturdy and flexible, stretch it over a foam board and pin it down with staples or glue, and then frame the whole piece. If your material is not as robust then rather than stretching it, which could possibly damage the fabric, delicately pin it down, and then proceed to frame the board. If you have something more heavy-duty to hang, like a tapestry, it could potentially be nailed straight into the wall – take care not to damage the tapestry nor the wall too much. If your tapestry is more lightly woven, the nails should be able to snuggle in past the thread so that the tapestry itself incurs no damage. You could try push pins for a lighter tapestry that is more firmly woven, but you may need to put holes in it, so think hard before making a decision as it may be irreversible.
You will also find that some tapestries come with their own casing, if this is the case for you then hanging will be even simpler for you. All you need to do is insert a rod into said casing, and then hang it on nails. If you have no rods at hand, they can easily be found at a hardware store or another local store. You can even DIY a casing if your tapestry doesn’t have one! If you are going to sew a casing on, watch a video or do some research about how to sew one on, and remember to make sure it sewed on straight or otherwise your tapestry will be hung on lopsided! If you are adamant about avoiding holes in your tapestry, perhaps because it ruins the look or because the tapestry was very pricey, then you may want to consider using Velcro to hang it up. Make sure your Velcro has enough strength to hold up a heavy tapestry. To begin with, you’ll need to nail a thin piece of wood into the studs in your wall. Put one side of the Velcro on the wood, and the opposite piece on the upper back of the tapestry. Attach the two and that is all, your tapestry is now up and ready to admire.
So there you have it, a few reasons as to why a tapestry could be the perfect addition for your home, as well as some tips to avoid the woes of hanging it up without causing too much damage to the tapestry or the wall! Happy decorating!
