It’s Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month! Haven’t posted anything about it yet and the month is almost over so I thought it fitting to share something today on Memorial Day to thank all those who served. Little unknown fact: My dad served in the military during the Secret War in Laos towards the end of the Vietnam War in a ground force along side other Hmong soldiers to assist remaining US influence in South East Asia. Dad doesn’t like to talk about it much and sometimes modestly replies that he didn’t play a significant role because the war was almost over at that point but I like to think that it was his efforts that allowed my family to come to America. Although there is more info out there and it’s so easy to research things on the web these days, a lot of people still don’t know about the secret war. I won’t get into details since you can just @wikipedia it but just that: my family had to escape Laos in order to survive. After seeking refuge in Thailand, this little lady (me) was born in a refugee camp in 1984. So every time I tell someone I was born in Thailand, they’d ask if I speak Thai but nope! I’m Hmong. I’d love to share more with you over coffee someday and tell you what I know.. if you’re interested. Love my heritage!! Sharing this photo from Susan + Gary’s Traditional Hmong wedding from ages ago! #hmongwedding #traditionalhmongclothes #traditionalhmongwedding #loveissimple #asianpacificislanderheritagemonth #asianamericanheritagemonth #asianamerican #asianwedding #tshoobhmoob #hmongamerican #simplejoiephoto #bayareaweddingphotographer #pdxweddingphotographer #fobpose #fobbyhmongmusic #hmoob #hmongpeople (at Simple Joie) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAnsEE3DChX/?igshid=dod13gc1ek47

Quarantine made me forget important holidays and events coming up, such as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month! This whole month is dedicated to Asians and Pacific Islanders, so what are my fellow Asians and Pacific Islanders doing to celebrate? I thought about posting my TBR for the Year of the Asian Reading Challenge, but other than that I don't know what else I'll do 🤷🏽‍♀️ #asianpacificamericanheritagemonth #asianguyanese #asianinfluencer #asianpacificislanderheritagemonth #asianpacificheritagemonth #asianamericanheritagemonth #asianheritagemonth #asianamerican #asianamericanwoman #asianamericaninfluencer #guyaneseasian https://www.instagram.com/p/B_56sVCgOPZ/?igshid=10ryqpotv4imp

Oh shit, I forgot May was #AsianPacificIslanderHeritageMonth until right now, lol. Now I got ten days and one hour to talk about my heritage. #AAPIHeritageMonth
Check out my novel-draft that deals with Filipino colonization, undocumented immigrants, and a patchwork attempt at reconnecting Filipino traditions with Pacific Islander roots! English title is "THE CROCODILE GOD," Tagalog/Baybayin title is "ANG BUWAYA ANITO."
The first draft is done and if I get enough people to read it, I can get it cleaned up by a website editor, and hopefully published for real! Even if you can't read it, just leave a comment on the first chapter or reblog it in case you have Filipino friends!

For the last post of #asianpacificislanderheritagemonth - #asians4blacklives inspired by @mrchuckd_pe I have been inspired by black leaders my whole life, 1st #MalcomX had a big influence on me when I was young and in high school, read his book many times and watched the movie at least 5-10 times. And to just recently find out about #YuriKochiyama (about 3 years ago, but it finally stuck in my head about a year ago) and to see the photos of them together and how she was his close personal aid in his layer years and she was sitting front row and was at his side on the stage when he took his last breaths, makes me proud of Japanese Americans history. More than being a #NoNoBoy in a #internmentcamp more than the #442nd because those are stories a lot of Americans know. These are the forgotten, untold and buried stories. A few years ago I read #BobbySeales book #seizethetime the story of the #BlackPantherParty and #HueyPNewton and come to find out #RichardAoki a #JapaneseAmerican from Oakland supplied them with their first guns, also see his photo in the hashtag #yellowperilsupportsblackpower The powers that be try and erase our history of solidarity. Black leaders were working very closely w/ Asian leaders in the 60s and 70s. They use the divide control and conquer tactic driving a wedge between minority communities. At first #yellowperil and now the #modelminoritymyth Lets come together and work together as one to fight the oppressors. #allthepowertoallthepeople #✊🏿✊🏾✊✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻 #fightthepower #fighththepowersthatbe #asianpacificamericanheritagemonth #asiansforblacklives (at Moiliili, Hawaii) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA4xQWalK3M/?igshid=jhsosmqcjbey

Fujimoto family history- My paternal grandfather Masayoshi Fujimoto (1916-1987) was born in Rexburg Idaho to Japanese immigrants. When he was 4 the family returned to Japan. In 1933 at the age of 17 he went back to Idaho where he attended public school & farmed with his uncle & cousins. 1941 he was drafted into the army. He was married in 1945 to my grandmother Kiyoko Homma who was in #TuleLake #internmentcamps due to #executiveorder9066 signed by President #FDR Then he was discharged from the army & the Homma family was released from Tule Lake in 1946. He and his bride returned to his Idaho farm. Kiyoko 's family had owned the biggest chicken farm in Sacramento loosing it & everything else they owned when they were illegally imprisioned. Raised Buddhist, in 1954 he became Mormon. He wrote over forty volumes of daily diary entries, offering some insights into how 1 individual who was US born, raised & educated in Japan was able to go back & make accommodations through his social, agricultural, & religious experience in rural southeastern Idaho. Sometime between 1900-1906 Suematsu Fujimoto & oldest son Toji (Masayoshi's father) left their small farm in Kumamoto-ken, because of the #chineseexclusionact of 1882 it prevented Suematsu, a laborer, from going directly to US mainland, he sailed to Hawaii. Toji was young enough to convince authorities he was a student & sailed to US mailand, finding work on a Idaho sugar beet feild. Toji went from beet larborer to raising beets on contract for Utah & Idaho Sugar Co. to finally renting 180 acres of land raising alfalfa, grain, & sugar beets. W/ financial stability he sent for Suematsu in Hawaii & younger brother Tozabu who immigrated to Mexico in 1906. Toji traveled to Mexico by hopping trains to pick up & escort Tozabu over the boarder to Idaho. 1915 Toji goes to Seattle to marry Koma Tominaga a picture bride & also brings in 2 more brothers that brought w/ them a picture bride for Tozabu. 1916 my grandfather was born. By 1930s many #issei like my fathers family had immigrated to the interior west(east of California & west of the Missouri river) #asianpacificislanderheritagemonth #asianpacificamericanheritagemonth (at USA) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA4h8-0FfLU/?igshid=q2vrv0vhqypd

Original people, asiatic black people migrated all over the world almost 30,000 years ago. Australo-Melanesians are the Aborigines in Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Melanesians of the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji, New Caledonia etc. The Aeta, are a group related to the Negrito (Spanish term for 'little black person') an ethnic group occupying parts of the Andaman Islands in India, Malaysia, and Thailand. They are characterized by their short statue, kinky hair, and dark skin. Negritos are thought to be one of the earliest inhabitants of the Philippines about 30,000 years ago. History of the Aeta still perplexes scholars. One theory suggests that the Aeta are the descendants of the original inhabitants of the Philippines, who, contrary to their sea-faring Austronesian neighbors, arrived through land bridges that linked the country with the Asian mainland about 30,000 years ago. Unlike many of their Austronesian counterparts, the Aetas have shown resistance to change. Attempts of the Spaniards to settle them in reducciones or reservations all throughout 400 years of Spanish rule failed. Polynesians are thought to be a subset of Austronesians and left from Taiwan 3000 to 5000 years ago to settle New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, Tahiti, Hawaii, Easter Island, etc. They share the same origins as the indigenous peoples of Taiwan, Southeast Asia (especially the Philippines, Malaysia  and eastern Indonesia), Micronesia and Madagascar. This is supported by genetic, linguistic and archaeological evidence. There are theories that the Ainu (indigenous Japanese) came out of Africa 60,000 years ago and developed lighter skin through a different evolutionary path than Euro Caucasians. 📽 @h.opey #🤙🏽The 📸 are a quick Google search. I have been researching this topic for years now and we all brothers and sisters and we all came from Africa 🌍 #originalman #asiaticblackman #asianpacificislanderheritagemonth #asianpacificamericanheritagemonth #asians4blacklives #polynesian #asian #blackanese #blackasian #yellowperilsupportsblackpower #blacklivesmatter #✊🏿✊🏾✊✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻 #dividecontrolconquer #unitedwestand #weareone https://www.instagram.com/p/CA3ppDvlo3W/?igshid=10nonq54w9sfz
