The autumn coloured foliage is falling from this Pyrus pyrifolia (Asian pear Chinese pear, Japanese pear, nashi, sand pear). The red leaves seem to have gone first to make a carpet under this deciduous fruit tree.

Sad 😞 😞😞 although this taste really good...it came out frick’n wrong. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️I used a different brand of super firm tofu and it turned into crumbles. Dinner day 59 of our 45 day whole food plant based experience. Tofu makhani. Aka: buttered tofu...although there is no butter or cream in this recipe. You can use vegan butter, but I don’t like the taste. Cashews simmered with tomatoes onions and herbs and spices, is then blended into a smooth creamy sauce. Asian pear espalier / fuzzy kiwi trellis completed & planted! 🥳 . For decades, this top-of-the-slope area sported 4 hella bushy “privacy” bushes with berries not even the birds wanted. (See penultimate frame of vid of butterfly trying to figure out the point of the old bushes) . Replaced with 3 slotted posts for 2 cattle panels for 2 asian pears (Hōsui, Shinseiki) I grafted back in Feb. 2020 after the @california_rare_fruit_growers scion expo. Asian pears are currently being espaliered with green tape & lots of patience. . A recent @girl_who_gets_dirty -inspired trip to @planting.justice scored 3 fuzzy kiwis—one for each post: saanichton & forest fuzzies on each end with a fuzzy male in the middle. Hoping they run up the posts & along the tops to frame the asian pears. . Lots of nasturtiums, calendula, & other pollinator / ground cover around the base. Not sure that spindly, lonely blueberry will stay at the base of the retaining wall 🤔 . Went out in the garden and saw that our Pyrus pyrifolia was more than a little crowded. Wikipedia told me this pear tree’s fruit, native to East Asia, also goes by the name Japanese pear, Chinese pear, Korean pear, Taiwanese pear, (and apple pear, zodiac pear, three-halves pear, papple, naspati and sand pear). Maybe I can call ours Maryland pears? Anyway, with this season’s heat tying the record for hottest summer my wife and I kinda left our trees alone. Ordinarily we would have culled some of the pears early on. Removing some of the fruit let’s the remaining pears grow bigger. I tasted one and though not big it was very sweet. I guess harvesting is in order! Happy Weekend everyone!
