Ben kendimi biliyordum önceleri... Sessizlik, huzur ve kitaplardı bir bütünüm. Sonra bir şeyler oldu, duygular değişti, sevgim beni bile aşar oldu. Zamanım kimi zaman geçmişi kapladı. Anım olmadı hiçbir zaman, anılarda takılı kaldım. Kendime yeni anılar yazamadım hiç. Bir sayfa oldu geçmiş. Yeni cilalı bir defterin en önemli yazısıydı fikrimce...

Sonra o hikaye belki de bir sayfayı bile doldurmadı, kalp kırıklığıydı mürekkebim. Kaç defa ilk sayfayı okudum etkisinden çıkamadım. Ondan sonra her yazdığım sayfada eskisini aradım. İlk sayfanın mürekkebi bulaşmıştı elime. Her yeni sayfayı yazdığımda ona bulaştı. Yeni bir sayfa açamadım, elimde ki mürekkep her yeni sayfada yazdıklarımı da sayfamı da zamanımı da heba etti. Sonra geriye dönüp bakmamaya çalıştım, yeni bir defterim olacaktı...

Ben o deftere yazmaya çekindim. Hep ilk defterimi okudum durdum. Zaman geçti artık yeni defterim yok gibiydi, ben onda takılı kalmıştım. Eski defterimde....

Ardından rahatsız etmeye başladı mürekkep izleri, kopardım hepsini ve geriye sadece ilk sayfa kaldı. Yeni defter ise rafın diğer ucunda tozlanmaya mahkum kaldı.

Ama şunu unutmuştum. Unutmak için anılar değil acılar gerekliydi bu yüzdendir ki yeni bir defteri hiçbir zaman açamadım...

I think there was definitely someone who taught him how to manipulate and influence others. I don’t know if it was Caleb or someone else, but I don’t think he’d be able to learn that by himself when he seems to have the social skills of an extremely awkward autistic individual whenever he isn’t actively trying to manipulate someone. And, to get where he did influencing-people-wise, you’d have to be pretty aware of how things affect others.
